NEW YORK (WFAN) – How would you feel after losing Super Bowl XLVI to the Giants? Pretty miserable, r

NEW YORK (WFAN) – How would you feel after losing Super Bowl XLVI to the Giants?

Pretty miserable, right? Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady’s supermodel wife, knows a little something about that.

The mood in the Patriots’ locker room after the game was as expected. Wes Welker held back tears as he fielded questions about his game-changing drop. Brady wasn’t his usual media-friendly self, sulking alone at his locker. Bill Belichick even blew off a postgame interview with NBC.

Rob Gronkowski and Matt Light? They were getting ready to party.

In photographs posted by Deadspin.com, Gronkowski and Light appear shirtless, dancing on stage during a postgame performance by LMFAO.

More from CBS Boston

“Legit party rocking with @lmfao right now,” tweeted Kansas State-bound Glenn Gronkowski, Rob Gronkowski’s younger brother. “Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!”

Their father, Gordie Gronkowski, tweeted: “Unbelievable night on stage w @LMFAO. Anytime all the bros are together its a great time! @Chrisgronkowski @DGronko @ggronko @RobGronkowski.”

Toucher & Rich of The Sports Hub in Boston uploaded two videos to YouTube Tuesday morning. One reportedly shows Light dancing shirtless:

The other is reportedly of Gronkowski, putting his high ankle sprain to the test:

BOSTON (CBS) – After losing Super Bowl XLVI to the Giants on Sunday night, some of the New England Patriots went out to blow off some steam in Indianapolis.

In video obtained exclusively by 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich released Tuesday, tight end Rob Gronkowski and left tackle Matt Light were shown dancing on stage during a performance by the group LMFAO at the Patriots post-Super Bowl party.

In one clip, Light dances with his shirt off.

Matt Light dancing shirtless on stage after Super Bowl 46. (Image from Toucher & Rich video clip)

In other, Gronkowski is seen moving pretty well around the stage, despite his high ankle sprain.

Some people are questioning the timing of his dancing. After a loss of such magnitude, many believe you should hang your head, be humbled, and perhaps stay quiet, especially after the biggest game in sports.

Most of Patriots nation we spoke to believed the players earned their fun, win or lose.

“You have the 50 and 60-year-olds that say no. Give them a break, it’s a long season, they earned the right to cut loose, I see no problem with it at all,” said Sports Hub’s Jon Wallach. “They earned the bender that they got on Sunday.”

WBZ-TV’s David Robichaud reports

[worldnow id=6715730 width=320 height=240 type=video]

Glenn Gronkowski, the tight end’s younger brother who will play football at Kansas State this year, tweeted during the performance, “Legit party rocking with @lmfao right now ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!”

Both teams are coming off late victories, with one winning on a missed field goal, and the other on a made field goal. This rematch of Super Bowl XLII should prove to be just as exciting, as New England tries to avenge their loss to the Giants, one that ended their bid for a perfect season.

*Note: Fantasy seasons might be over, but Fantasy Watch will still be given for people in playoff challenges.

New England Patriots (1) vs New York Giants (4)

Sunday February 5th, 6:29 PM: Lucas Oil Stadium

Background/Storylines: New England (15-3) and New York (12-7)

Who could’ve seen this coming? Everyone, I guess. Even with a not-as-supernatural 6-5 playoff record since 2004, Tom Brady and New England should be favored every season to make it to the Big Game, and here they are again, looking to avenge a 17-14 loss to these very same Giants in Super Bowl 42. However, this team looks totally different than that one. For one, their defense isn’t nearly as scary, missing former All-Pros Tedy Bruschi, Rodney Harrison, and Richard Seymour. To replace them they have brought in younger players, such as Rob Ninkovich and Brandon Spikes, but they haven’t been able to fill the void left by retiring veterans, ranking 31st in total defense. However, back-to-back good performances against Baltimore and Denver leave this defense riding on a high wave right now. Nearly the opposite can be said for the offense. Back in 2007, Tom Brady’s only viable threat was Randy Moss, but now his arsenal includes star tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, All-Pro wideout Wes Welker, and bruising running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis. However, after a paltry performance against Baltimore last week, and Rob Gronkowski severely limited with an ankle injury, gauging this unit’s confidence is tough, even riding a 10-game winning streak.

This wideout trifecta has been one of the best in recent memory (Getty Images).

He’s always been referred to as “Peyton’s Little Brother”, but Eli Manning has an opportunity to eclipse his brother in terms of Super Bowl rings with a win on Sunday. A 4900+-yard season also helped him step out of Peyton’s [extremely large] shadow, as well as courageous performances against the Jets and Dallas to close out the regular season, and then three straight wins in the playoffs, two of which came on the road. Tom Coughlin’s bunch excelled in the passing game this season, led by breakout, explosive wide receiver Victor Cruz and crafty possession receiver Hakeem Nicks, both of whom eclipsed the 1000-yard mark this season. The rushing game, featuring two inconsistent, oft-injured backs in Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, found signs of life lately against Green Bay and San Fran, but no one can deny just how bad they were during the regular season. On the defensive side, this defense may have ranked 27th overall, but that stat is skewed by the fact that there were several games in which the defense gave up plenty of yardage, but kept teams from putting up points. This unit, which has shut down the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, and Frank Gore, is coming into the game brimming with confidence, not only because of their depth but because of their top-ranked pass rush.

Key Matchup: Matt Light/Nate Solder vs Jason Pierre-Paul/Justin Tuck

Number one concern for New England? Protect their Hall of Fame quarterback. As can be read in my offensive line matchup article, the Patriots feature three former All-Pros, and one first-round rookie. With most of New York’s top-ranked pressure coming from the outside in the form of Pierre-Paul and Tuck, the play of Matt Light and Nate Solder (left and right tackle, respectively) could certainly dictate the flow of the game. If these two are unable to contain JPP and Tuck, then more pressure will be put on the All-Pro [but still human] guard combination of Logan Mankins and Brian Waters, and Tom Brady’s three-/five- step drop rhythm could be thrown off. The Giants’ key to victory is to prevent Tom Brady from getting comfortable in the pocket, and that will be certainly dictated by outside match-ups on the line.

Fantasy Watch: Wes Welker (NE) and Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG)

Welker's success should continue against New York (AP).

With the health of Rob Gronkowski in question, the Giants’ focus is now trimmed from three superstar talents to two-and-a-half. That means that it is still a pick-your-poison situation, but it seems that wide receivers have had a better time of it against New York than tight ends, especially considering the fact that the Giants secondary is one of the worst in the league. Wes seems like the best choice.

Ahmad Bradshaw is a huge-risk, huge-reward kinda play in this game. He could either go for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, if Tom Coughlin chooses to use him consistently, or he could have 27 yards and no touchdowns, because Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks combined for 25 receptions. However, seeing that the Patriots cornerbacks are above-average, I’d take my chances with Ahmad.

X-Factor: BenJarvus Green-Ellis (NE) and Eli Manning (NYG)

The Patriots injury situation, especially concerning Rob Gronkowski, is frightening for any Patriots fan. If Bill Belichick wants his offense to work at a high level, then he will need consistent, solid production from The Law Firm. If he runs well early on, it will open up no-huddle/shotgun plays for the over-the-middle passing game, and it could be a long day for the Giants.

More so than Tom Brady, Eli Manning needs to bring his A game. Brady was god awful against Baltimore, but he made some key throws when he had to. The same went for Eli against San Fran, except he was not as dreadfully disappointing. His wideouts can run all the routes they want, but he needs to be sharp and accurate if the Giants want to win back-to-back Super Bowls against New england.

Prediction: Giants 27, Patriots 24

It's a Super Bowl XLII repeat, as the Giants celebrate and Brady mourns.

Eli plays the game of his life, the Giants defense does just enough, and a Lawrence Tynes field goal sends the Giants to their second Super Bowl title in 4 years. Eli officially eclipses his brother in terms of Super Bowls, Tom Coughlin makes his case for the Hall of Fame, and the core of younger Giants (Pierre-Paul, Cruz, Nicks) get their first taste of success. Brady plays like Brady should, but it just isn’t enough.

There couldn’t be two more appropriate teams to play a Super Bowl in Indianapolis than the New York Giants and the New England Fighting Belichicks, er, Patriots. I mean you have the Tom “I’m not totally sure how to use a razor” Brady’s Patriots, considered the main rival to the hometown Colts, against Eli Manning, Colts QB Peyton’s Younger brother, playing in the stadium that he made possible, and the city he put on the map (football-wise). I’s a great storyline. It could have only been better if Peyton was playing in it himself! On top of that it’s a Super Bowl XLII, where the G-Men ruined the Pats perfect season, 17-14. I can’t wait! It’s going to be a great game. Who will win you ask? What are the keys to the game? Well, That’s why I’m here. Let’s F’ing do This!!!!!!!

Bill Belichick’s Adjustments vs Tom Coughlin’s Adjustments

Belichick and Coughlin sharing an awkward handshake

made during the last 2 weeks Bill Belichick is a master at gameplanning.Just look at what he does when given one week between games. Give him two, and he might not only come up with a winning gameplan, he might figure out the positions of all our nations’ enemies, and plan how to hunt those bastards down! Tom Coughlin is always more subtle. While he’s no slouch in the gameplanning department, he relies more on the “We do what we do best, and that’s how we beat you” philosophy. It always seems like he could care less who his team plays. Also, he constantly looks constipated, and annoyed on the sideline. Not sure what this means, but it’s gotta mean something, right?

The Giants Pass Rush vs. The Pats Offensive Line This is an obvious one. Tom Brady can’t complete passes from his back. It’s just a

Can Matt Light &co slow down Osi and the Giants Pass Rush?

fact. The Giants have like 40 guys on their d-line that can rush the passer. With JPP, Justin Tuck, and Osi Umenyiora, that’s 3 of the top defensive ends in the league all on one team. Throw in Chris Canty, Linval Joeseph, Dave Tollefson, that’s damn good. IF Brady is thrown off rhythm by the pass rush, he’s more apt to rush his throws and turn the ball over, thus giving the Giants a distinct advantage if this happens. If not, Brady will pick apart the G-Men secondary.

Both Teams Respective Secondaries vs. Eli Manning, and Tom Brady So, Yeah, apparently these QBs are pretty good, huh? Tom Brady is one of the best of all-time, and Eli Manning had one of the best passing seasons ever while thrusting himself into the QB immortality conversation. They are elite QBS who normally prey on weak secondaries, which we have here. The Giants have covered up their secondary’s weaknesses with a dominant pass rush, and ball hawking linebackers. But if they are unable to use these strengths, Brady will eat them for lunch. Also, not really buying into the Gronkowski injury being a deciding factor in this one. I’ve always felt you could put Giselle’s baby daddy out there with 4 midgets (not very far-fetched with Branch and Wes Welker…….count it!) and he’d still throw for 250, and a TD. On the other hand the Pats secondary has been a joke all year. It got so bad, that former can’t read, can’t write, Kent State QB Julian Edelman (say that out loud and you’ll get the joke) has become a key contributor in nickel situations for Bill Belichick. That’s not good when you’re going up against the Mighty Eli, Cruz , Nicks and the boys. Look for BB to offset this by blitzing a lot and having Eli make quick decisions. This will negate Cruz downfield, and help the secondary keep everything in front of them.

Anyway you size it up, this is going to be an exciting game. It’s the best possible matchup from a fan’s standpoint after Championship Weekend 2 weeks ago. I for one am Pumped.

Victor Cruz: Not only a great dancer, but he can play too!

My Prediction: Giants 31 Patriots 24 Eli Manning shreds the Pats D, and Victor Cruz gives Salsa lessons in the end zone all day, and the G-Men become victorious!!!!!

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora will be fined $20,000 for not attending a mandatory media day Wednesday. Umenyiora was fined not to long after he didn’t show up for his 45 minute mandatory news interview session at the teams’ hotel Wednesday morning. Due to not having a medical excuse like New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light had for Tuesday, Umenyiora was fined.

“I misunderstood the schedule,” Umenyiora said in a statement released by the team. “It won’t happen again, and I will be at tomorrow’s media session and available after the game. I apologize for any inconvenience my absence this morning may have caused.”

Now Umenyiora was at the media day the day before where he talked about his opponent Matt Light and how he doesn’t hate him as he said, “Matt Light is obviously a good football player,” Umenyiora said. “We don’t play each other enough for true hatred to develop. This is maybe my second or third time playing against Matt Light. There is no hatred there. Some of the things he has done, I wish he wouldn’t have, but we’re both professionals and he seems to be a good guy.”

So what’s wrong with that? He showed up on Tuesday and said what he had to say and answered what he had to answer, I mean let’s be honest what more could you obviously talk about him with him today? What’s his favorite color? What does he like to do in his free time? Is he dating anyone? Like seriously, what could the media have asked him?

They already covered the Super Bowl questions, the rematch questions, the Matt Light questions, and on and on and on. Now for tomorrow’s media day, they actually could have some things to ask, like why weren’t you at media day? Your response to Light’s comments and maybe what he had to eat yesterday? But fining the guy $20,000 for not showing up for 45 minutes to listen to repeated questions over and over again? Heck I would probably skip it too.

So Osi, as bad or as boring as it may be just go to the 45 minute session tomorrow and answer to the questions that are asked, or if you’re going to skip at least tell them your sick…cough cough.

The phrase “go big or go home” is ushered from every professional sports player’s

The phrase “go big or go home” is ushered from every professional sports player’s mouth at least once in their life it seems. The phrase means the most when it comes down to crunch time. The NFL playoffs are a testament to just how big those words really are. At the pinnacle of the NFL playoffs lies the Super Bowl. The ultimate challenge to put those words to the test. Winners are crowned Super Bowl Champions, the best of the best. While the losers are showered in confetti that does not belong to them, hearing cheers from fans that aren’t cheering for them, and ultimately go home, with nothing to do, but wait and train for the next season. All that hard work, all the challenges overcome, all of the emotions of a draining season, all to just be called runner ups. No season seems bigger to the Patriots than this season. Go big or go home symbolizes not only the importance of this ONE game to end the season, but I think it also symbolizes something even bigger. Something that HAS to be in the back of a few of the Patriot legends. Im talking about the end of the road for the careers of the original Patriots Dynasty.

Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Matt Light, and Kevin Faulk are the only remanding members of the original Patriots squad that won the Super Bowl in 2001. 11 years ago this all started and none of these players are getting younger. Faulk has come back from an ACL tear and has seen virtually no playing time this year. Light has been dealing with injuries for the past 2 or 3 years and the fact that he has played so much this year is really a testament to his will power and determination to play injured. Brady has had injuries himself over the past few years. It seems like at the end of each season we find something else out about what broken bone or torn muscle he has been playing with. Then there is the realization of what Peyton Manning has gone through just in the course of a year and a half. An elite quarterback, future Hall of Famer, and a guy who could be coined with Mr. Reliable because of never missing a game now could be within months of never returning to the NFL again, and even getting a chance of winning another Super Bowl.

Bill Belichick, in a sereen moment, taking it all in. Makes you wonder if he's reflecting on his career and what could be close to the end of it.

There’s nothing to say, especially as Brady gets older, that the same could not happen to him. Finally, Bill Belichick, who will be turning 60 this year, and (although it is always kept secret from the public just how long Belichick is signed for) with speculation that his contract is up in 2013, is also looking at what could be his last chance at being a Super Bowl Champion again. This team does have a bright future, and there is always the chance that they could make it next year, but there are too many variables to worry about. Some of the biggest attributes to this team wont be on this team in just a few years.

Of course, for every team there is a “go big or go home” mentality, because there is so much uncertainty in the National Football League. Im not arguing that the Giants aren’t going into this game with the exact same mentality as the Patriots, because they should be, and I’m sure they are. However, I’m talking about a legacy here. A legacy of one of the greatest teams that was ever put together and the CORE members that still remain from that team. The members of that team that have careers that are clearly on their last leg, and at a point where, “go big or go home” no longer is looking towards another long offseason, but are looking towards, possibly, their last chance at a title, and a future of wondering what could have been. So when I say these Patriots need to go big or go home, I’m talking about this team playing like they aren’t going to play another game in the NFL. When I say they need to go big or go home, I mean for the fans that are willing for another one, for the memory of Myra Hiatt Kraft, and for the legacy that is the New England Patriots. So, go big or…

New York Giants:

The offensive line in New York is a completely different animal than anything the Patriots have faced all season long (with the exception of division rival Buffalo). New York’s front five features four former Pro-Bowlers. Four. David Diehl, Kareem McKenzie, Chris Snee, and Kevin Boothe. Any person in the Patriots’ front seven will have to contend with someone who is good at what they do, and the offensive line was key several years ago in Super Bowl XLII, when the Giants knocked off New England and ended their perfect season. When Eli Manning had four seconds or less to pass the ball, he had a 77.9 passer rating. When given more than four seconds, Manning featured a much different 103.5 rating (according to CBS Sports). Protecting him, or getting pressure on him, could be key, just like it was last week against the 49ers. Manning struggled all day because of the pressure put on him (43 hurries on 64 dropbacks).

Diehl (left) and Snee (right) will be key to the Giants' offensive success.

Against the pass rush, this line is extremely good, as they’ve been for the last five or six years. On the outside you have two former All-Pro tackles, Diehl and McKenzie. They will be going head-to-head with Rob Ninkovich, Sean Ellis, and Mark Anderson, all guys who have played very well as of late. Last week, Diehl had a tough time containing 49ers All-Pro end Justin Smith, and because of that linebackers Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman were more effective in blitzing situations. Belichick likes to run a similar defense, where the ends are supposed to wreak havoc and take attention away from blitzing linebackers. Diehl and McKenzie, however, should be up to the challenge, as they’ve only allowed 11.5 sacks all season between them (28 total for the whole line, 6th in the league).

Inside, center David Baas and guards Chris Snee and Kevin Boothe will have to deal with the beast that is Vince Wilfork. These three have been banged-up all season, but when they’ve played together it has been a marvel to watch. Boothe and Snee excel at pass-blocking, and Baas is a very good run-blocker. Boothe, who is the fastest of the three, usually is the one to pull on most counters and follow the runner when he gets outside. These three weren’t very effective when rushing the ball (only 3.5 yards per carry as a team), but lately they have been able to get their blocks down, and as a result New York is averaging over 4 yards per carry in the postseason.

This unit also has one thing down that most lines don’t: chemistry. These big men move like one person out on the gridiron, and that sense of togetherness, especially among seasoned veterans, could be key.

New England Patriots:

Yet another area where both teams are phenomenal. The Patriots offensive line, similar to that of the Giants, features two perennial Pro-Bowlers, a first-round rookie, and two wise, experienced veterans. This group of guys, which for the most part has stayed together during the last ten years of the Patriots’ dynasty, have always been one area that has been consistently good up in Foxborough. You can always hear quarterback Tom Brady laud the efforts of his linemen, and he treats them to meals as a show of gratitude. I mean, it’s the least he can do. These men have allowed him capture 3 Super Bowls, 2 MVPs, break all sorts of records, and remain relatively injury-free while doing it. The contrast between the success and failures of this unit can be seen in the Patriots wins and losses: in his career, when Tom Brady is sacked 3+ times, he has a winning percentage of only 57.3. Compare that to contests where he sacked less than three times, in which he boasts a 76.2 career winning %.

Pats fans better hope that this doesn't happen often.

The left side of the Patriots line is fine. Led by seven-time Pro-Bowler Matt Light (LT) and three-timer Logan Mankins (LG), Tom Brady rarely has to worry about his blind side. Out of the 32 sacks New England gave up (tied for 10th in the NFL in that category), Light and Mankins only gave up 7 combined. Due to their unbelievable talent, these guys will most likely be going up against the fearsome threesome of Usi Umenyiora (OLB), Jason Pierre-Paul (RDE), and Chris Canty (RDT). Protecting Tom Brady’s left side will be important to New England’s success, because with time, Brady will make the Giants’ suspect secondary look like swiss cheese.

The right/middle of the line, though less well-known, has been nearly as good. It is headed by rookie right tackle Nate Solder, the Patriots’ first-round pick earlier this year. He has been very good, but in a game as important as this, it is important for him to keep his cool against former Pro-Bowler Justin Tuck. In the interior, the Patriots feature center Dan Connolly, who has been a pleasant surprise, and former Chiefs All-Pro guard Brian Waters. Waters, elected to five Pro-Bowls during his 11-year stint in Kansas City, has really helped solidify this line, and help develop Connolly. They will get to face the weakest part of the Giants’ front seven, the left interior, which includes little-known defensive tackle Lindval Joseph. This line was mediocre in the run game, finishing 24th with a 4.0 yards per carry average. However, they have shown that when needed they can get a push, just like they did against Denver and Baltimore.

Verdict: Tie (1-1 Tie)

This one is too close. If I had to rank them, they would both probably in the 9 range. Both of them have several All-Pros/Pro-Bowlers, and both of them are deep. It should be fun to watch these premier lines proves once again that the game is won and lost in the trenches.
