What is this a rock blog now? Well, thought I would put this up on account of interest and nostalgic effect. Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones (from Led Zeppelin) put out a record today. Them Crooked Vultures? Its worth a listen. Sounds like old QOTSA but with more cow bell. Actually I like these songs, catchy and raw with plenty of detours.

Google Says Site Loading Speed is Important as Content

Are you serious? The speed of your page may be as important as the relevant content on your site for how Google will rank you? According to Mr. Cutts of Google, the most important new factor for SEO rank maybe the speed at which your site loads.

What exactly will this mean for the millions of web managers, SEO professionals, companies and the agencies which serve them? It means that not only does your content need to be relevant; not only do you need to have appropriate back links, but the IT gurus will need to work closer with the marketing and SEO professionals on the overall web channel of the business. This has not always been a match made in heaven. It also means more investment in technology and IT infrastructure which hasn’t always seen the level of support it truly needs. In many companies it resembles the relationship between General McChrystal and President Obama. The General asks for troops and the President takes forever to send them while at the same time stating how he supports the troops. I have seen this played out in many companies. IT needs valuable resources to do their job successfully and the leadership of the company keeps shortchanging them for legitimate and sometimes illegitimate reasons.

Nonetheless, look for this struggle to expand if Google implements site load speed as one of the factors in page rankings.

Thirteen years ago. Holy nutballs.

Thirteen years ago I had spent the night at my friend Christina’s house. We’d gone to the Homecoming game the night before. Afterward, someone had sprayed graffiti on her father, the pastor’s, church van. It said “cracker”. I remember I didn’t know what that meant, but I was too embarrassed to say so. I was 15 years old.

My date that night wasn’t the boy it was supposed to be. I broke up with that boy just handful of days before the dance. He was … well. He was weird. He is still weird. Like I didn’t go to the reunion because I didn’t want to have to see him ever again WEIRD.

You know who wasn’t weird? His friend. He was tall. SO tall. Pretty nerdy, but come on. I was in a magnet program for science and technology. And he made me laugh. I had never laughed like that.

And he made me laugh about the silliest things. Germs jumping from one place to another and the shocks on the school bus being no better than a wheel on a stick.

I guess you had to be there.

But he was going to be my date that night. I asked HIM to be my date. And I was terrified. But he said yes.

This was my first dance with a DATE. I had never danced with a boy before. (Not unless you count dancing with Dominic, the ring bearer at my cousin’s wedding when I was flower girl at 6-years-old. Which, well, if you count that, it sort of ruins the magic of my story, so go with it.)

He came to the door to pick me up, and my mother was instantly smitten. From that moment in time, all other boys I brought home would be measured against him. He brought me a corsage and we rode to the dance with other friends.

I will never forget the smells of that night — his cologne mixing in with high school gymnasium and helium balloons.

Thirteen years since our first date. We haven’t been together since then … we were only 15, after all. We broke up and dated a lot of other people, which is a story for another day. But my heart has never stopped belonging to that boy with the braces who danced with me to Boyz II Men in that stinky gymnasium.

The Clearance Rack: Beanie Sigel - The Reason

The vast majority of the albums I find in the clearance rack are from underground or local artists. Although at this point I’ve bought 3-4 of Busta’s projects off the rack, for the most part, CD’s from main stream, commercially viable rappers are extremely difficult to find for $2. If they do exist, 99% of the time they are edited, or from an artist the Hip-Hop community is blissfully happy to have forgotten about, a la Lil Bow Wow or Will Smith. Still, every now and again you get surprised. Chances are, it won’t be by a corporate icon like Eminem or Jay-Z, but it is possible to get projects from their homies or label mates such as Obie Trice, or in my most recent case Beanie Sigel.

This past Wednesday, thanks to our incredible veterans, I had the day off from work, and decided to spend it by buying new music. Apparently no Hip-Hop fans had even glanced at the clearance rack in Amoeba for weeks, because by the time I was finished scanning all the rows of plastic rectangles, I had a stack of literally 30 rap CD’s that I had serious interest in, and I still had plans of picking up some jazz as well. In a perfect world, this wouldn’t be a problem in the least bit, but I have a limited income and had to cut the number down to around 9 discs, which is never an easy task for a music addict. After mixing and matching to have as diverse a line up as possible, I ended up with one commercial rap album: Beanie Sigel’s The Reason.

I’ve always felt pretty mixed on Beanie Mack. He’s never grabbed me as someone who has a career really worth following, yet every now and again he’ll surprise me with a truly impressive feature. Recently he came with some vivid imagery about jail on Only Built For Cuban Linx Two, “Barrel Brothers” was one of only a handful of quality songs found on Ghostface’s disappointing Big Doe Rehab, and he managed to hold his own on one of my all time favorite posse cuts, “Reservoir Dogs”, which is pretty impressive, because everyone gang raped and brutally mutilated the shit out of that track. On the other hand, a few years back, someone hooked me up with a copy of 2005’s The B. Coming. On initial scan I thought it sounded cool, but after sitting down with Sammy G and giving it a proper listen, we were both less than impressed by the monotonous last 2/3’s of the album. To this day, the sentiment I get about Beanie from those who haven given him more of a shot than myself, is that this is more often than not the case for his entire catalogue. Yet the Roc always got laced with some of the tightest production in the game, and when it was time to make a decision about The Reason, I felt like that alone was going to be worth the $2.99 price tag.

In my opinion the album starts with heat up front, then hits you with artificially induced narcolepsy in the middle, and if you can manage to wake up by the end, you can catch a couple of sentimental tracks that actually give quality insight into who Beanie is as a man. “Nothing Like It” starts the disc off with an impressive soulful beat from a pre-rap Kanye West. It’s the type of music that works great as opener, and it really got me excited for the rest of the album. Unfortunately, Beanie didn’t come with it on the lyrical tip. If he did, the song could have been one to remember, but instead he brings just enough to the table to make sure that it isn’t a disappointment. Yet on the next track, the bouncy Just Blaze produced “Beanie (Mack Bitch)”, Sigel shows much more excitement and energy. When he dropped “Nigga ask all your fiends/ They call me Chef Boyarbeans/ Beanie Crocker/ I cook coke proper”, I realized that it was still way too early to start zoning out. “Get Down” is another hardcore Just Blaze track that will probably make you want bang your head until you get whiplash, but after listening to it a couple of times, I wish the beat would do more than just the same 4 bar pattern for 5 minutes. Two of the tracks that I was most interested in were “I Don’t Do Much” and “For My Niggas”, because they were both produced by Rick Rock. Rick Rock has always been one of my favorite producers due to his ability to include enough variety that you never know what’s coming, yet at the same time maintain his signature sound. Also, being from the Bay, you know I gotta have major respect for any other baydestrian in the music world that gets love outside of Northern California. Yet in this case Rico was a major disappointment. “I Don’t Do Much” isn’t bad, especially since Beanie seems lyrically motivated on it and the beat was really cleanly mixed, it just doesn’t do much. The real problem is “For My Niggas”. Every aspect seems amateurish and uninspired, and it might be my least favorite Rick Rock beat of all time. Nuff said.

Beanie Sigel – I Don’t Do Much (Produced by Rick Rock)

Another reason I look for commercial albums is the features. I always like tracking the progression of today’s most praised artists. 2001 was around the time that Jay was getting unanimous votes for the best rapper alive, and he laces Beanie with two features on The Reason. “Think It’s A Game” is a crew track featuring Jigga, Freeway, and Lil Chris. Since this was during the birth of State Property, I wanted this to be a track full of starving motherfuckers ready to take advantage of every opportunity they had for exposure. Too bad that was far from the case. There is absolutely nothing about this song that would make you want to find out more about the crew, including Hov. Luckily, Jay more than made up for his lackluster performance on that track with his extremely personal verse on “Still Got Love For You”. The song is pretty much a sequel to “Where Have You Been” off of The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, where both Beanie and Jay write to their fathers who were nonexistent during their childhood. While Mack’s verse on this track isn’t quite up to par with his verse on “Where Have You Been”, Young Hov truly expresses his pain and childhood experiences artfully.

In summation, by being on Roc A-Fella, Beanie had to attempt to personify multiple personalities frequently found in Hip-Hop all at once. He’s the drug pusher, the fighter, the shooter, the ladies man, the family man, and the knowledgeable OG all in one album. Yet, he’s at his absolute best when he raps about what he knows, which is perfectly exemplified by “What Your Life Like 2”. I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a more harrowing and realistic depiction of jail in song form. Songs like that just reinforce my immense fear of life behind bars. At the same time it helps me appreciate Mack. He’s never going to be a star, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have something of value to stay. It sucks that Jay abandoned his ass, but I can tell you this much, he needs to pay attention to the examples of Mobb Deep, M.O.P., and Ma$e. “Teaming” up with 50 Cent will not accomplish anything, except more publicity for 50. My advice, stay in Philly, becomes it’s Hip-Hop ambassador, and help build it’s reputation as one of America’s thriving rap communities.

Matt's jazz band plays at the talent show

Matt was really psyched last Friday that the newly formed jazz band got to play at the talent show. I really wanted to go to the talent show but I couldn’t convince the other kids to go and I didn’t want to leave them home. So, Matt was ok with running in, playing his song (since they were on first) and running out. We waited in the car, opened the windows and listened to music. Matt came out quickly and the whole thing was easy. He was really pleased and is really enjoying being in the jazz band.

I don’t think Marie could handle dating someone who doesn’t drink coffee! I enjoy it with lots of cream and sugar. I also like iced coffee, cappuccinos, Turkish coffee, and I even like decaf. (see answer to Alexa’s question)
From Nilsa: Tell us something Marie would hate for you to admit! (But, of course, not something that’s going to get you in so much trouble that I’m going to have the guilt of being the cause of your break-up!)
You realize this is a tough question because she talks about everything openly. Marie loves to chat, loves to write, loves to tweet, and loves to blog. She also loves to comment on how nice her boobs are, how shapely her buttocks is, how well defined her legs appear in a skirt, etc…She’s basically the first person to let you know how cute she is.

Marie usually tells me to leave the kitchen while she’s cooking. I do have a tendency to wander around, though, usually in search of cold cuts or something to put in the microwave. I also stand pondering to an open fridge door for minutes on end, which drives her crazy.
From Alexa: i would like to know what it’s like to date an active twitter/blogger. i’m asking this as helpful knowledge for my future boyfriend.
Many positives to having a tweeting/blogging girlfriend: she gets to sample coffee and coffee makers, she’s blogging about what’s on her mind (which makes it a handy reference tool), you get to see if she writes about you (Ctrl + F is a favorite), and it’s a wonderful thing she can do to occupy her time while you watch the game.

Matthew Berry Blasts Offensive Jim Moran Comment

ARLINGTON, VA – Matthew Berry today criticized Congressman Jim Moran’s offensive comment that those opposed to the Obama Administration’s decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the 9-11 attacks, and four co-conspirators in a civilian New York City court are “un-American” (Would this include Senator Jim Webb??).

“It is wrong,” Berry stated, “for Congressman Moran to question the patriotism of the millions of Americans who believe that terrorists such as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed should be tried by military commissions rather than in civilian courtrooms.”

“Furthermore,” Berry continued, “Congressman Moran’s comment reflects a basic ignorance of American history. Military commissions were used to try war crimes during the Revolutionary War, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War II.” “Therefore,” Berry concluded, “the use of a military commission to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed would have been entirely in keeping with American history and tradition.”

On Tuesday, Berry announced the formation of an exploratory committee as the first step to running for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 8th District, the seat currently held by Congressman Moran.

Mini Golf

Matt and I took Nikki to the Sherman Oaks Castle Park which is a place run by the city that has an arcade, batting cages, and mini-golf. WE went for the mini-golf part of it, of course. I had coupons from the Entertainment book I bought from Nikki.

Nikki had a lot of fun, even if she didn’t quite get how to play mini-golf. I’ll take her again when the other girls are here and I’m sure they will have even more fun playing all together.

Last week Daedelus and James Pants were in town to play the hifi. Letanque bloggers were in attendance and afterwards easily agreed the show ranked among the best of 2009. Sitting through James Pants was a bit painful but well worth the wait as Daedelus smashed it from the get go. No doubt the guy is genius with the bit box he works. Lots of speculations as to what is actually going on there but whatever it is he had us dancing all night and the guy loves what he does.

This is far and away the funniest new show on television and you’re doing yourself a disservice if you’re not watching it. The Story about My Job

Before working as SEO I actually don’t have any ideas on what is SEO. Typically the essential things that I used to do way back in college as an IT student is learning on how to use the computer, doing some programming stuffs, study how computer works, browsing and searching lots of stuffs over the internet. I had learned and was fascinated by the internet technology and not even bear in mind that their still many interesting things happened at the rear of the unseen fence of cyberspace using the power of internet. As my college days end the real drama of life comes in, finding for employment that really interests me. I’ve been through a lot of jobs both offline and online until such time I’ve heard about that there’s a new IT outsourcing company called FirstPage WebSearch that are looking for an SEO trainees. The word SEO seems so strange on my ears, to be honest it’s my first time to hear about search engine optimization but I’m already pretty acquainted with the word “search engine”. I asked some technology geeks in which I supposed that they knew what SEO mean but none of them can gave me a definite answer on my question. Then I got an answer through searching on GOOGLE. I read a lot of results but I can’t grasp the idea because it’s new to me. So I was interviewed about search engine optimization stuffs and I said I am not so familiar with it but I am very much willing to undergo training. After the tough interview I had made it and I got the job as SEO Trainee. That day I am so much eager to learn on what search engine optimizer do. Upon the training started I was so excited because I was introduced on how things work using the internet from the usual click and searches on the search engine. There are lots of wonders and question marks playing on my mind. The training was really difficult for starter like me while doing some SEO works and familiarizing some unusual terms such as backlinks, reciprocal linking, crawlers, PageRank and many more. As the training days go on I easily learn the rope it’s because of the eagerness inside in me to learn new things. Six months passed I had learned so many things about my work, far behind when I was just starting up in which I was just like a bottle that is empty that even single drop don’t have but now it feels like I’m gradually filled. I learned so many good things that surpass my expectation. There are some people that I would like to thanks for giving me the opportunity to learn those things and to give credit to them I would like say thanks to my boss Sir Jake for that, it’s a learning that I can’t acquire in my three and half years of going to school. And also I really enjoy so much the companionship with the cool and good co-workers most especially the fun moments. To end this up I would like to share this simple notion “everything can be learn as long as you are interested on it”

Today was our last school cert exam! haha computer skills. It was alright pretty easy, we’ll see when we get the results

I bought Face of Australia spray tan today and Maybelline NY Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector concealer.

I used the self tanner today, like just then. It comes out a dark brown colour and I think i appied it badly haha. Next time I’ll remember to spray from further away and mor evenly xD Camp is on Monday!! I hope noone notices my blotchy tan xD if it is, I duno if its developed yet, probably not. But we’ll see

And today we had basketball at 6.15. We played The Queens of Leon, which is the All Stars except with a different name. We won 8-19 :D Bella didn’t come cos she left her uniform at school xD was it a good thing that she didn’t come? I scored 4 points I think the basketball stand at home is really helping with my shooting After our game we stayed and watched the game with Max from year 9, he’s cute haha. The other year 9’s were playing on another court, and they suck xD Yun was there to watch her brother. There was this girl there sitting next to Max on our bench when we were playing, probably the sister of one of the guys on Max’s team. She’s so pro at shooting! during the half time breaks and breaks between games she was shooting and she swished like all of them!!! seriously! What a beast. Lucky she doesn’t go to our school

Yesterday me Anna Ling and Nivvi went shopping at towers to get Ling’s formal dress. we found a awesome off-white one at forever new, strapless with bead things at the front and pockets xD I made her try on this greeen dress at blockout and it was like Tinkerbell!!! hehe.

Anna bought material from Lindcraft. Chiffon and this other shiny white material. Reminder: Anna owes me $25 and Jeanette owes me $50.

I got best and fairest for waterpolo yesterday! :D yay
