Popular teen-themed channel 4 television show Skins is due to begin broadcasting its fourth series in January 2010. The show, which began broadcasting on digital station E4 in 2007, has built up a large number of devoted fans. Every two years the cast is replaced with a new set of core characters. About A Boy star Nicholas Hoult starred in the first series as Tony Stonem. The new series will be the last featuring the current cast, which includes Kaya Scodelario as Effy Stonem. There will be eight episodes in the new series. The show is also a hit in the states where an American version, set in Baltimore, is currently in development. A big screen version may also soon be made as it was announced, in May 2009, that Film4 and Skins production company, Company Pictures, are in preliminary talks about producing one. I’m looking forward to the new series and will be disappointed if it proves to be the last one they make. En regardant Stargate Universe – gros geek assumé que je suis -, je me suis  rendu compte que l’homosexualité était vraiment bien plus présente dans notre télé que il y a 5 ans… Regardez il y a 5 ans, il aurait été impossible de montrer un câlin homosexuel, sauf peut être au JT, et encore, avec énormément de politiquement correct et de paraphrases. Aujourd’hui, la tendance semble s’inverser avec les séries comme Ugly Betty, Le Destin de Lisa, Plus Belle la Vie ou encore, la tête de file, Skins.

Retour sur une phénoménalisation et sur une mode de l’homosexualité, donc.

Prenons Skins par exemple. Série anglaise par excellence qui avait pour vocation de montrer la vie telle qu’elle est, en l’exagérant sur le trash, mais en la montrant sans artifice. Alors oui, il y a des homos dans la vie, alors on les montre. Dans les saisons 1 et 2 (les meilleures!), le personnage gay était Maxxie, et il a sans doute généré à lui seul un bon quart de l’audience (dont celle de ma petite personne, je l’avoue), et dans la saison 3, on passe aux lesbiennes, avec Naomi et Emily. Étaient abordées les difficultés à s’assumer, à vivre le regard des autres, etc etc. Voilà pour Skins.

Et à partir de ce moment là, on a pu voir un rush sur les homos à la télé, que ce soit dans les séries ou dans le reste. Les séries, on a vu dans la toute dernière saison de Heroes la coloc de Claire qui avait craqué sur elle. Il ne se passe rien d’autre qu’un petit bisou, mais lesbien quand même, Heroes passe à la mode, de façon assez décevante il fait dire. Au contraire, Stargate Atlantis y passe bien mieux je trouve. Une des personnages était lesbienne, sans l’afficher plein pot (on l’a su avec cette phrase “Tell Sharon my last thoughts were for her.”) et lors d’un retour sur Terre, on assiste à une superbe scène de vie d’une intensité et d’une beauté à couper le souffle. Cette scène semble bien plus naturelle que dans Heroes, elle montre juste une tranche de vie, tandis que dans Heroes, il s’agissait simplement d’un remous scénaristique.

Pour passer du côté français, on a – honte sur nous – Plus Belle La Vie où un des personnages est gay, et ce dans la vraie vie aussi, depuis que la série à commencée. Hop, un gay en plus. Il suffisait aussi de regarder Secret Story cet été et l’été dernier…  Secret Story 2 : affichage devant la France entière, pour la première fois à la télé réalité, d’un couple lesbien, Samantha et Nathalie. Secret Story 3 : Fx la folasse avec sa sexualité louche, et Cindy la bisexuelle épanouie, complètement décomplexée. Et vas-y que tout le monde drague tout le monde. De là à dire que c’est une partouze intégrale, il n’y a qu’un pas. Et pour enfoncer le clou, TF1 a osé, en début d’été, mettre le mot “gay” dans le titre d’une de ses émissions : Mon Incroyable Fiancé Gay. Bon, diffusée en deuxième partie de soirée, mais tout de même.

Grosse mode de l’homosexualité, l’hétérosexualité, bien que définie comme norme dans notre société, est devenue obsolète (à voir aussi, The L World & Queer As Folk). Les gays font vendre alors évidemment on en profite. Bonne chose ? Mauvaise chose ? C’est à débattre, mais en un sens, les ados de demain auront vu des gays à la télé tout le temps, donc il n’y aura pas de sentiment de rejet. Mais d’un autre côté, les gays présentés sont quand même caricaturaux à mort (Brüno par exemple…), et alors là, paye tes préjugés.

We’ve just started to think our mishaps are finally over when our beloved geek turns up, holding a cup of coffee.

“For you” – he says, pouring spittle in our face.

“Wow” – we’re trying hard to sound amused and kind of pleased. The he leans forward, holding the cup and we’re about to think that he’ll simply give it to us, when he suddenly trips over one of the wires of our computer and soaks our best sweater with smoking-hot coffee.

Cool. One hell of a morning.

Este programa recien estrenado en MTV latinoamerica es el tipico drama adolescente pero en Inglaterra, con los mismos estereotipos de series como The O.C. o la infinidad de “opciones” que surgieron a finales de los 90′ y principios del 2000, con la diferencia de que las cosas se tratan de una manera menos superficial y tirandole a una especie de reality pero con guion. La serie lleva 4 temporadas, a partir de la tercera se cambio completamente al elenco, para mantener el interes y la frescura del mismo. Esta es sin duda una buena serie (de lo poco rescatable del canal) si pueden echenle un ojo a estas “pieles” XD

2×24 – Valley Girls - este é o nome do penultimo episódio da 2ª temporada de GG, e também o suposto nome do spinoff que retrata a adolescência da mãe da Serena, Lilly. O episódio que é uma mega flashback gigante da história da Lilly,  foi ao ar ontem nos EUA e eu já tô doido pra baixar e assistir.

Admito que GG teve seus baixos neste temporada, mas eles conseguiram recuperar a escência de retratar a vida dos riquinhos do Upper East Side, ou seja, retratando as traições, sexo e podridão que há por trás do cheiro doce de um Channel nº 5 e que os tombos dos saltos Louboutin são bem maiores, porém menos aparentes.

O ultimo episódio da série é o “The Goodbye Gossip Girl” onde a pobre S vai tentar desvendar quem é a tal blogueira que divulga a podridão dos riquinhos.

2×25 – “The Goodbye Gossip Girl” vai ao ar nos EUA no dia 17 /5 no Canadá e 18/05 nos EUA.

E a  minha maratona pessoal de Skins se acabou ontem. Assisti as 2 temporadas em 02 dias. Estou preparando os downloads da terceira já.

Me apaixonei pelo seriado e já disse todos os porquês. Já sei que a terceira temporada retrata a vida de uma outra turminha, pelo que parece são os amigos da Effy, irmã do Tony. Na web todo mundo comenta que esta temporada foi bem fraquinha comparada com as outras duas. Sei que posso me decepcionar, pois dois motivos:

1 – gostei muito da 2ª temporada;

2 – não verei mais o gostosinho do Maxxie (Mitch Hewer) dançando ou desfilando o seu guarda-roupa mega listrado e maravilhoso (eu quero!), nem a fofa da Cassie (Hannah Murray) que é uma atriz excelente e rouba a cena totalmente pra ela, mesmo quando está fazendo um backstage na cena. Sentirei falta da doçura, dos problemas, da inoscência, da loucura e do cinismo dela.

Esta semana também rolam os penultimos e ultimos episódios de Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, House MD (já foi!) e Fringe. It’s going to be a Sad Sad week…!

Ca fait je ne sais combien de temps qu’on arrete pas de me parler de cette série anglaise il fallait bien que je m’y mette meme si je dois avouer qu’ au départ je m’y suis surtout mis,  pour le magnifique Maxxie

Je vous avez bien dit qu’il était magnifique ( et je vous parle même pas de Tony et de ces yeux bleues, il a d’ailleurs un faux airs de Tom Cruise).

Mais bon venons en au faite et à l’histoire. Un groupe de jeunes adolescents britanniques vivent à Bristol et font leurs premières expériences du monde adulte, en se déchirant autour de sujets comme la religion, la sexualité, la drogue, les déséquilibres alimentaires.On retrouve parmis eux : Tony le sex symbole de la bande petit ami de Michelle et meilleur ami de Sid ( ce dernier au passage étant raide dingue de Michelle), on a aussi le fameux Maxxie joli petit blond, danseur de claquette et gay ce qui n’est pas sans poser des problème à Ankwar ( son meileur ami) du à la  religionde ce dernier. Tout se petit monde essaye de (sur) vivre entre  lycée, soirées( fortement alcoolisé et rempli de cachet en tout genre et bien entendu de sex). Ce qui est intéressant, ici, outre le fait que les personnages sont tous plus attachant les uns que les autres, est la facon dont chaque épisode est tourné, chacun porte le nom d’un des protagonistes et le suis tout au long de l’épisode.

Je dois avouer avoir eu un peu de mal a rentrer dedans mais au bout de deux, trois épisodes on a du mal à y resister et une fois visionner le superbe final de la première saison on ne peut qu’en être totalement accro.

Previous post I said that the latest series of Skins was better than the first two. Here’s my justification.

I’ll look at each major plot strand.

Naomily

This series dealt with the issue of being gay in a whole lot more depth than the previous two series. In series 1 and 2 Maxxie was the only gay character of the main cast. Him being gay never really caused any riffs among the group or any major problems for Maxxie aside from occasionally straining him and Anwar’s relationship. I’m not knocking this as I have no doubt that there are many teenagers for whom being homosexual is not quite as complicated as it is for Emily in series 3. I am pleased though that the writers chose to really explore the process of ‘coming out’ in the 3rd series. I am also pleased that Emily’s sister Katie had a problem with her sister being gay as I am in no doubt that many teenagers encounter similar reactions from their friends/siblings when they come out. I just felt it was a bold and brilliant decision to give some weight to the idea of a teenager being gay.

Emily and Naomi’s relationship was, I felt, the strongest of the relationships built in this series. They were the two characters with the most depth, the most natural dialogue and most memorable moments.

There were two shots that did it for me (and I’m sure I’m not alone here). The first is that of Emily looking up at Naomi as she throws flyers off the steps at the college. A fantastic shot that totally sums up the pair’s relationship for me. Emily in awe and wonder of Naomi. Naomi resisting Emily’s undeniable charm and affection and ultimately failing.

The second shot is of the pair of them on their bikes riding down the hill later on that same episode. A classic Skins shot of an idyllic teenage moment. Great music, great wardrobe, great acting. The acting from both of them was, I reckon, awesome. Particularly Kathryn Prescott as Emily.

The plot totally deserved the happy ending it got too. The writers judgement when it comes to conclusions and endings has always been spot on in my eyes. They know when it needs to be sad, open or happy.

Cook/Freddie/JJ/Effy

A big one this. Very important for the success of the whole series.

I thought the writers faced an immediate problem when it comes to Effy. In the previous two series she had little screen time aside from a couple of episodes and this meant her closed off, quiet, dark, controlled character worked brilliantly. She was able to remain mysterious and intriguing because the plot wasn’t reliant on her or focussed on her. However in to the third series and suddenly she is the key character. Suddenly she is very important meaning the writers couldn’t write her quite so mysterious. The plot with Cook, Freddie and JJ needed more of her character to work off. Otherwise there would be no justification for all three of them being in love with her. I thought that this was almost achieved. I could see the Cook/Effy thing. Cook loving Effy for her attitude, her way with people, her sexiness. Fair enough. The JJ/Effy thing was, I guess, showing JJ’s naivety and how it was likely he didn’t love Effy, he lusted after her.

The Freddie/Effy thing though was the most difficult for me. I just didn’t think it was viable for Freddie’s character to go for Effy, particularly after some of the things she did. It was fine for the first couple of episodes but if you look at the the final scene of episode 5 in which Freddie sees Effy with Cook in the window of Effy’s room, surely that would be enough for Freddie to no longer want her?

I mean, Effy was doing one horrible, thoughtless thing after the other and yet still Freddie wanted her. Obviously this all came to a head towards the end of the series with Effy leaving having hurt Katie but then still Freddie wanted her and still he went after her and found her and fought for her. For me there was just a few too many reasons to not like Effy that stopped me from rooting for her at all. I guess the idea was we can’t help who we love.

Still the ending of the final episode was perfect. I was dreading an ending in which they were all friends, Effy made a decision and everyone was fine. Of course I should have had more faith in the writers because instead they created a gorgeous setting (on the boat) for a lovely final scene that left things nicely complicated.

Thomas/Pandora

This was a nice one. Thomas is, in my opinion, a great character and a great foil for the others. To create a character suitable for Pandora cannot have been easy but I reckon they succeeded. Two outsiders. Two misfits. Two individuals. Totally made for each other. I thought Pandora’s fixation on ‘surf and turf’ was clever and her fulfilling this desire with Cook was a wise move in terms of adding further complexity to the above plot. This relationship, to me, was like the equivalent of Anwar and Sketch in series 2, only better.

Another fine ending for these two as well. I don’t know whether the writers always had it in mind for Thomas to say “Hello, I’m Thomas, so glad to meet you” at the end of episode 9 but it worked brilliantly. Either a glorious coincidence or fantastic forward-thinking.

Friendships

Putting relationships to one side, the friendships of some of the characters was very interesting too.

First off the Freddie/Cook/JJ threesome was excellent. An unlikely but great trio. There were some things I would have liked to have been explored further, such as JJ thinking Freddie had become boring. That would have been interesting to develop. But I thought Cook’s love of JJ’s quirkiness, his magic tricks and his bizarre wit was awesome and great to watch.

One scene in particular stands out. When they are at the pub quiz JJ says something like “You know, Naomi backwards is I Moan”, there is a slight pause as Cook considers this, it clicks and he loves it! He says how brilliant it is and JJ is. This for me perfectly demonstrated why JJ and Cook were friends. Cook loved JJ for exactly that sort of thing which he never would have thought of. JJ loves the affection and appreciation Cook shows towards him as no one else shows the same kind of appreciation. It’s a heart warming moment.

I’m looking forward to Effy and Naomi’s friendship developing in series 4 if indeed it does. They would be a great duo. No doubt the twins will continue there love/hate relationship which is great to watch. Hopefully Thomas will become more integrated in to the main cast.

So obviously this was not a totally in depth look at Series 3. Just a few points I wanted to make on certain aspects of it. The series as a whole was brilliant and I for one cannot wait for the next one.

Fraiche, originale, qui n’a pas peur de casser les aprioris sur l’adolescent moyen, Skins est une série qui NOUS ressemble, loin de l’image BCBG et cliché que l’on peut retrouver dans des productions tel que LOL. Celle-ci se veut sans tabous et abordent tous les thèmes que l’on connait… Alcool, amour, sexe, drogue… Tout se veut démonstratif et réaliste.
Rayonnante, étonnante, épatante, surprenante, réjouissante, tant de mots pour définir cette série qui mériterait une place sur le podium des séries les plus jouissives et souriante de ces dix dernières années. Le quotidien farfelu de ces ados pas comme les autres nous donne envie de prendre le premier billet pour Bristol et de partager leurs vies, la vraie, au moins le temps de 45 minutes, la vie de ces enfants perdus des temps modernes. Un vrai travail a été mis en place sur le fond psychologique de chacun de ces jeunes pas tous très communs. Une énième série superficielle sur la jeunesse? Pas celle-ci, Skins sort du lot, peut-être parce que c’est anglais d’ailleurs!
C’est réellement une série qui mérite vraiment que l’on s’y intéresse…

Skins é uma série ÓTIMA! Ela é considerada teen, contudo é muito diferente e não fica caindo nos clichês que estamos [?] acostumados a ver em todas séries desse gênero, como intrigas em relacionamentos e triângulos amorosos que são tão previsíveis que dá vontade de vomitar.

Tá ok, parei de criticar as outras séries teen, mas é que eu não vou muito com a cara de séries nesse gênero e, como Skins é bem diferente, eu me preocupo em deixar isso claro para que outras pessoas que assim como eu – que desprezam grande parte de séries teen – não tenham má impressão e deixem de ver.

Season Two Finale

This summer, I stopped in to review the first two episodes of Skins, a British series which aired this Fall on BBC America. And then, promptly, I completely abandoned the series – it was not out of lack of interest, but there was something about the show that didn’t particularly make it “appointment viewing.” If I had to put a finger on what it was, it was that the show’s artistic side (unique to the genre) only occasionally felt like it was elevating this material to something beyond the teen cliche. The weird interrelationship between a really interesting visual and cinematic aesthetic and somewhat less interesting long-run storylines kept me from writing about Skins week by week, but when I did eventually finish the first season I had to appreciate it; while the overall arcs never really caught fire, individual episodes (organized to focus on a specific character) were quite strong, and going into its second season the show had a lot of questions to answer.

BBC America finishes airing the show’s first two seasons tonight, and I have to admit that the second season was perhaps better than the first. I have some issues with some of the individual characters not quite getting enough attention (Anwar, although Dev Patel may have been busy preparing for a certain likely Oscar nominated film I reviewed yesterday), getting the wrong kind of attention (Michelle, who just never clicked in either season really), or feeling like the attention they’re given doesn’t really offer us a proper sendoff (Cassie and Syd, in particular). Considering that the show is switching out its characters in favour of an Effy-led ensemble for the third season, the second season finale has a lot to handle, at least related to fixing these types of problems.

But what buoys the season is that it also does a lot of things right. In Chris and Maxxie it finds its characters most concerned for the future, both of whom don’t find it in the traditional school system due to either dreaming bigger (the West End for Maxxie) or getting expelled (Chris’ excursion into the world of real estate). Similarly, the show chooses Jal as the emotional center, the character who has always been perhaps the most logical and as a result both legitimizes Chris and eventually offers the finale’s most pivotal grounding force. And although getting hit by a bus seems a horrible fate for Tony, it in fact creates a far less obnoxious and more human Tony once he comes to terms with his memory loss and develops into someone far more comfortable in this world.

The result is a season, and a finale, that feels like the show was better organized to take advantage of its artistic side, embracing its almost dream-like state more often and with greater success. This isn’t to say that the finale is perfect, or that I think we’re ready to say goodbye to these characters, but I think it does indicate that the show and its formula has plenty of life and could work well transitioning into new characters.

Chris’ death is something that is undecidedly tragic, and for the most part this episode uses it as a way to bring these people who have been driven apart by one thing or another back together for a final sendoff to their friend. On their way there, the show delves into its usual balance of humour and dourness, and in the tradition of many a funeral scenario finds great slapstick potential in the theft of a coffin. The show knows that Chris was the kind of character who would find enjoyment in this, and it also echoes quite carefully the chase to get a passed out Cassie to the hospital in the pilot. It was a way to say goodbye to this side of these characters, give Syd and Tony a chance to do something together to mend their damaged friendship, and to give them an excuse to shoot a rather elaborate chase sequence.

The reason they steal the coffin is the real purpose here, an initially quite one-dimensional personification of “The Man” in the form of Chris’ father who wants none of his son’s identity to be involves in his funeral. While I thought it was brought in a bit abruptly, I can relate to the anger that Syd and Tony feel at the very idea of not having his friends present: it’s tough when someone dies in between childhood and adulthood, where their family will choose to remember them one way and their friends quite the other. The opposition between the two may have been exaggerated to create conflict, but that opposition nonetheless manifests as a fairly “final” moment for these friends as they begin to head off to their futures.

It is a testament to the show that its strategy of taking reality and either abstracting or sensationalizing it can work so well, but here we get a really well put together structure of remembrance, friendship and eventually something resembling a good-bye. No single character really gets to do much in the episode: while there is an attempt to retcon some involvement for Anwar into the episode (he’s the only character who didn’t get an episode of his own this season), it’s a very general swath of sorts.

This is a bit of a shift from the rest of the season, which was even more compartmentalized than the first. With the first season using its focused structure to introduce us to the people in these character’s lives, this season the purpose was much more thematic: it was about more of a psychological investigation more than it was an environmental one. It resulted in some really compelling television: Maxxie’s rooftop dancing showing the freeing of his soul, Sketch’s obsession with Maxxie and the sheer isolation of her reality, and (while not as affective) Michelle’s frighteningly ultra-modern residence all felt like a deeper look into these characters than we got last season where the show was more about interpersonal relationships.

Where this is most clear is in Tony, who is an entirely different character this year. Once someone who was an instigator, someone whose sheer douchebaggery caused everyone in his life grief, the end of the first season brought Tony to a different place: even before he got hit by that bus, he was running around trying to rescue his sister, and realizing that his actions had created dire consequences for those around him. What we saw in the second season was this actually happening: where Tony became someone whose internal dialogue was suddenly much more active than his external one, and where the distance between their content was much more narrow. I cared about Tony in the second season, and the time spent with Tony felt entirely justified (and often enormously compelling – his sojourn to College was amongst the most abstract episodes and stuck with me as a result).

The problem is that he never really gets to go anywhere new: he ends up back into some sort of a relationship with Michelle, a rote response that doesn’t feel as progressive as it could have been. Michelle as a character doesn’t go anywhere: she pines over Tony, she sleeps with Syd (a storyline I never liked), and she never feels like her life is anything but an enormous Michelle pity-party. Tony and Michelle is a relationship that never worked to begin with, but this season was romanticized in such a light that I didn’t buy either party’s involvement. It’s an example of how the show has elements that are quite strong, and yet eventually kind of peter off into something cliche.

This goes for Cassie and Syd as well, to be honest, an on-again off-again relationship that never clicked all season. Cassie turned into a self-destructing mess of a character at one point, angry and emotionally distraught at almost every turn. As long as she and Syd were playing this back and forth game, it felt like she was in the same rut she was in before: here was the character who had gotten the most psychological attention in the first season, and yet now she was relegated to a raving ex-girlfriend. The season rectified this situation by placing her at the center of Chris’ struggle, and eventually rushing off to New York to escape the tragedy and find her own way. That episode was another of the season’s most interesting and abstract, where Skins managed to craft a more interesting “starving artist romantic interest” cliche than Gossip Girl in a single episode and showed us the way in which Cassie’s abandonment issues are something deeper.

The problem with Syd is that he was once the romantic, someone who held onto love and kind of stumbled his way through this world, but he felt off all season. His relationship with Michelle felt false because it had always been an unreachable dream, and when they were having sex in a bathroom at one point it felt so enormously off with his character. Syd is one person who has never really evolved: his personal episodes never felt particularly emotional largely because we spent so much time on his perspective of Tony and Michelle in season one, and even attempts to define him her based on his father’s death never really clicked. His eventual position at season’s end, reconciled with Tony enough to know that he has to rush off to New York and oh so conveniently walk right past where she is in that Diner, feels like a bit of an oddly open-ended saga.

I like that in some ways: I don’t want this season to feel like it was all just contrived delays to the inevitability of Tony/Michelle and Syd/Cassie, neither of which end up happy and together in the end. But considering that these characters (outside of the occasional cameo) aren’t coming back in the show’s third season, it seems a bit odd to leave everything hanging as they did, especially with Syd and Cassie. Their journey in New York felt like it needed an ending: I didn’t need a play-by-play, but wouldn’t it have been nice for Cassie to see Syd out that window and have some type of a reunion? I know the show doesn’t do happy endings very well (see: Chris’ death), but it felt odd that the one thousands of miles away wasn’t given some kind of resolution.

Comparatively, the episode did too much to tie off others. Anwar had the most questions during the episode, not getting his grades and being left in limbo. He goes to Sketch, who was mostly underutilized after being introduced early in the season, in an attempt to define his future, but eventually the show writes him off as he runs off to live with Maxxie and his new boyfriend. In storylines like these, you realize what we miss when we’re so focused on other characters (in this instance, Jal and Chris’ pregnancy and his medical emergency) – where did he meet his boyfriend, how did Anwar begin to descend into this position academically, etc. The two of them got a raw deal: despite Maxxie starting off strong, he disappeared eventually and Anwar in particular became a walking clone of Maxxie before eventually fading away himself.

It is in finales like theirs that “Everyone” both reminds us that the show hasn’t been focused on everyone this season, and that if we’re really saying goodbye to them it seems simultaneously too complicated and too convenient. While I think that her showcase episode, and her time spent caring for Tony, did a lot to warm me to Effy (who I liked anyways) as the protagonist for the show’s third season, this doesn’t change the fact that more needed to be done for us to be able to say goodbye to the characters we might not see again. As a eulogy to Chris, and a final emotional moment for Jal, the episode brought to a close that period in these character’s lives: but as a final goodbye to an entire class of students, I don’t know if it really did everything it needed to do to serve “Everyone.”

I still have faith that the show has a great deal of potential, but I felt like for a show that’s entire structure is about being able to investigate characters further this finale really did very little to serve the same purpose. If it meant to leave us hanging and without any real answers about their future, then it did its job: but I don’t think that was how to transition to a new set of characters, and that the idea of a cycle wasn’t necessarily established well enough for us to move on to another set of similar archetypes. I look forward to seeing the way the show manages it, but nonetheless feel as if we’ll have too many unanswered questions about this set.

Cultural Observations

• I thought that the funeral scene was enormously well-staged, although I could have done without the fireworks – generally, all of the Jal stuff (from Michelle’s trip to the Aquarium to her discussion with his father at his grave) where the kind of thing that felt very final, but unfortunately not overly inclusive with the rest of the show’s characters.
• Speaking of Chris’ father, I like that he did eventually come around – yeah, it wasn’t exactly swimming in subtlety, but it felt in line with the theme of the episode.

Afinal o que me levou a conferir o piloto deste seriado se nunca fui fã de produções do gênero musical, um certo trauma gerado devido a modinha que High School Music se tornou, porém não se espantem em encontrar por ai algumas comparações do seriado com o filme, então reforçando a pergunta do começo deste parágrafo e já respondendo o que me levou a conferir o piloto é que se trata de mais uma produção inglesa e para aqueles que acompanham meus posts sabem que sou grande fã dos seriados ingleses e o saudosismo de Skins também foi um dos fatores determinantes para dar uma conferida na trama, pois nela temos o ator Mitch Hewer o Maxxei de Skins.

Jurava que seria mais um daqueles seriados em que iria apenas assistir ao piloto apenas por assistir e depois não voltaria para conferir sua continuação, porém errei feio, mesmo não gostando do gênero Britannia High consegui prender minha atenção, me deixou apreensivo em uma de suas cenas, em fim gostei da trama e com certeza voltarei para conferir o segundo episódio.

Basicamente o seriado mostra a difícil luta de seis jovens super talentosos em uma escola de artes performática, até ai nenhuma novidade, mas o que da os ares a trama é logo de cara a definição de quem são os protagonistas (Danny e Lauren) e quem é a vilã (Claudine), o que torna a história interessante é o fato de Lauren ser a única da turma que não batalhou para entrar no colégio, ela simplesmente foi descoberta cantando em uma casamento e foi convidada a fazer parte do novo grupo, as diferenças começam a surgir quando Claudine descobre toda a verdade e espalha para todos seus amigos e acaba criando um certo tumulto e desconforto em torno dos alunos, pois todos deram duro por toda sua vida para conseguirem passar nos testes, tirando o fato que Lauren é péssima em seus movimentos e terá que batalhar muito para provar para todos que tem talento suficiente para estar ali.

Mesmo fugindo do noite dos talentos, tendo que conciliar seus estudos com seu trabalho, Lauren consegue  demonstrar todo seu talento soltando sua voz, porém uma coreografia teste torna seu pior pesadelo, quando ela e seu parceiro Danny não conseguem se entrosar, desistir ou não desistir, muitas duvidas pairam sobre a mente de Lauren, quando todos já estavam desacreditados nela, Danny seu parceiro aparece e demonstra total confiança, numa cena apreensiva onde todos esperavam um desastre Lauren consegue superar seus limites e conquistar a confiança da galera, não sem um sacrifício no final.

O que me atraiu no seriado realmente foram as histórias um tanto quanto fúteis mas bastante apreensíveis de Lauren, a garota que faz a linha coitadinha, pobrezinha em busca de um sonho merece todos os méritos, sem contar que possui uma grande voz [isso se a voz das músicas forem realmente dela], meio que seguindo a linha de Skins o próximo episódio não será centrado em Lauren mas sim no seu parceiro Danny, vamos ver se a trama do garoto será tão boa quanto a de Lauren.
