Ich habe gestern einfach auf dem Bett gelegen und das ganze Album gehört, ich wollte durch nichts anderes abgelenkt sein, wenn ich es zum ersten Mal höre.
Hier meine Gedanken dazu:
John Mayer hat auf diesem Album das erste Mal richtig mit seiner Stimme experimentiert. Es wurde ziemlich viel bearbeitet, sodass er zum Beispiel seine eigenen Backgroundvocals eingesungen hat oder man ab und zu einen verstärkten Hall in seiner Stimme hört. Mit 15 fand ich diesen Hall in der Stimme super, aber meine Prioritäten haben sich ein wenig geändert.
Aber zum Glück hat er das nicht in jedem Lied durchgezogen – ich schätze mal dadurch, dass er das Album mitproduziert hat und er wahrscheinlich ein Spielekind ist, haben ihn die ganzen Möglichkeiten so begeistert, dass er so viele wie möglich einbauen wollte…
Da geht natürlich seine Individualität verloren. Kein Song ist dabei, indem man einfach seine Stimme und eine Gitarre hört, das was ich eben so an ihm geschätzt habe – da passt dann nämlich alles zusammen, gigantische Texte mit musikalischer Untermalung. Aber das ist ja nur mein persönlicher Geschmack. Und trotzdem hat er es geschafft auch dieses Mal wieder wunderschöne Melodien zu kreieren, teilweise sehr massig, es ist jedenfalls kein locker-leichtes Album, weder von den Texten her, noch von der Musik.
Sein Schreibtalent hat mich zum Glück nicht enttäuscht, er hat sehr gute Texte dabei, z.B. „War of my Life“ oder „Assassin“. Auf jeden Fall merkt man, dass er sich sehr angreifbar gemacht hat – die Texte handeln von äußerst privaten Ängsten und Sorgen. Das ist mutig und dadurch ist es ein sehr ehrliches und intimes Album geworden, das Tiefe aufweist.

Ich habe gerade gejauchzt vor Freude, als meine Augen das kleine Amazon.com Päckchen im Briefkasten gefunden haben! Es ist endlich da – das neue John Mayer Album „Battle Studies“. Es wurde freudig erwartet.
Dieses Album wird darüber entscheiden, wie es mit Mr. Mayer und mir weitergehen wird. Ich glaube dieses Album hebt sich eindeutig von seinen älteren Sachen ab – er ist gewachsen – hoffentlich nicht in die falsche Richtung eingeschlagen. Er selbst sagt natürlich es ist das Beste was er je gemacht hat, aber, wenn ich ehrlich bin, haben mir seine letzten Entwürfe nicht wirklich zugesagt. Die erste Single „Who says“ klang viel versprechend, doch schon beim ersten Hören hinterließ dieses Lied eher einen bitteren Nachgeschmack bei mir. „Who says I can’t get stoned“ singt der Herr – vielleicht verstehe ich auch einfach eine viel tiefgründigere Ebene nicht und er möchte vielleicht seinen Weltschmerz mit diesen Zeilen ausdrücken. Nichtsdestotrotz befürchte ich, dass es um wirklich nichts anderes geht – eben kiffen.
Das fand ich schon schade, da er schließlich mehr drauf halt als solche simplen Sachen, er kann so gut mit Worten spielen – aber vielleicht hat er auch gerade das Einfache verstanden und ist gereift – auch die simplen Dinge schätzen zu können. (großartiges Wortspiel)

Il corso di laurea si conclude con uno stage a Roma dove lo studente metterà a pratica quanto appreso prendendo a picconate la teca di Mayer.

The latest HIV clinical care information is now available in a compendium of the year’s HIV-related articles from Clinical Infectious Diseases and The Journal of Infectious Diseases.

The publication, 2009 Clinical Issues in HIV Medicine: Recent Advances & Challenges, was edited by Kenneth Mayer, MD, Miriam Hospital, Brown University and Daniel Kuritzkes, MD, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. It includes a wide range of HIV-related articles, including a piece on when to start HIV therapy, race and sex differences in ART use and mortality among HIV-positive persons, and the NIAID’s research agenda on drug-resistant TB.

Well I don’t really have much to say about John Mayer’s new album “Battle Studies.”  If you are a person who whats a more upbeat album, then this may not be for you.  Mayer’s album is made up of slower almost country like songs.  He even hooks up with country-pop star Taylor Swift on one song.  But, If fans of Swift are looking to have a lot of involvement in the song they will be disappointed.  She plays a very small part.  This album is good and different, but not as good as his last album “Continuum”  ”Battle Studies” will not be a top 40 radio hit, but it is a good listen if you are just trying to chill out and unwind.  It is an average album.  I would suggest the songs “Assassin,” “Heartbreak Warefare,” “Crossroads,” and “All we Ever do is Say Goodbye.”

The song is just a masterpiece.

The next few weeks sees me almost without a break and includes recording both Moby and John Mayer at the Hard Rock Cafe for Q Radio, nipping off to Spain with the Abubilla project, taking part in research for an independent research organisation and also the config and setup of a new rig for a London based producer, including a few days setup at Air. No days off at all for about 3 weeks. About time as well.

Robert Mayer was called up today to Hamilton to back up former Cyclones tender Cédrick Desjardins in Hamilton’s game tonight as the Baby Habs’ goaltender is at home with his about-to-pop-wife, according to Bulldogs’ media guy Derek Wills.

Shouldn’t be a factor at all for the Clones in their games this weekend.

John Mayer’s muchly-awaited new album has been leaked. Yes, the entire Battle Studies album. It’s his fourth album and it was supposed to be out on November 17th. He said about it: “The album is called Battle Studies and that’s because it incorporates a lot of the lessons, a lot of the observations, and a little bit of advice. Like a handbook, like a heartbreak handbook.”

A crowd of 10,920 (second largest in team regular season history) was on hand last night to watch the Cyclones’ special teams overcome the Tolledo Walleye. The Cyclones threw two powerplay goals and a shorthanded empty netter up with a couple even strength goals to bring home the game 5-2. While Robert Mayer was only tested 22 times by the Walleye, he came up with some unbelievable acrobatic stops with his legpads. The defense came up big as well in the third period to help him out with Toledo turning on the burners late.

Notes:
– Toledo was 0/5 on the Power Play. The Cyclones are now 34/34 on the PK though eight games. Chuck Weber’s special teams philosophy is that if you’re > 110%, you’re in pretty good shape. With the PK at 100%, the power play’s 20% showing puts the team well over his goal.
– The shorthanded empty net goal was a 6 on 4 for Toledo. For a two-man advantage, there was little dominance on that PP. The Cyclones controlled the puck for a majority of it.
– Captain Ehgoetz and Reid Cashman both netted their first goals of the season.
– Matt Pierce’s game winning goal was his seventh goal of the season. He’s third in the league behind Ryan Kinasewich of Utah and Chanse Fitzpatrick of Elmira.
– The Cyclones have only committed 111 PIM, which is by far the league’s lowest. This is a Chuck Weber team right here.
