I’m starting to feel a sigh of relief.

Calbuzz got the scoop on John Burton! This is my kind of Democrat. My kind. This is a Democrat with substance! The kind of substance California needs right now. You see, the Democratic Party wasn’t always this corrupt was it? No.

So, all the best Green, Indy Democrats went Nader in 2000. We are the true LIBERALS. WE ARE THE EDUCATED VOTER.

We are California’s “Gold” and California’s Green. This is the year we aren’t going to take any more crap from the flabby, weak willed bogus Dems who have done NOTHING for our state in DECADES! It’s time for some Democrats in Black Leather.

Like John Burton. What a track record. In a year of people with no track records, let alone birth certificates.

Our state is tanking, and we know it. Plus, we have seen very, very bad things right now out of Dem women we thought we could trust. Especially Senator Feinstein. So, the way we see it down here? Pelosi/Feinstein/Boxer are the axis of FEMINIST evil. Because Hillary was our GIRL. East Coast Dem women know all about you too. You failed us. On many fronts. You will be shamed, that is a given. But what is more important now is the restructuring of the Democratic Party — so that this kind of mistake can never happen again. It won’t. Young Dems according to CalBuzz were lining up around Burton. Funny, I lined up like that behind Jerry Brown once. It was a green thing then, and a green thing now.

Burton — who is about to become the new face of the California Democratic Party — is on with about 40 young D’s standing behind him with signs: their cumulative age less than his . . . Claims he’s younger than Winston Churchill was the last time he got elected Prime Minister . . . Forget the 12-point plan: “The purpose of the Democratic party is to elect Democrats”. . .

Yes, the purpose of the Democratic Party is to elect Democrats.

Let’s take a look at what a Democrat does, shall we? As a refesher course!

Peter Hecht off the Sacto Bee calls Burton, “Prickly, Profane and Principled.”

“…In an age of Obama and Internet-savvy politics, former California Senate president pro tem John Burton doesn’t own a computer.

He can recall fundraising “when you knocked on people’s doors and asked them for a dollar for the Democrats.”

But at 76, Burton, a passionate liberal, defender of the poor and disabled, and a famously profane and prickly political sage, is about to become the new face of the California Democratic Party…”

It’s not going to be a problem for Burton, because all of Jerry’s green liberals are grassroots, too. We are here to help. That’s all the brainy Dems, no? The fab Dems. The Real California Liberal set. Like Burton, I helped the poor and homeless down here. As a good feminist Democrat does. But? Which of you Dems “in charge” allowed what has happened to the programs Burton built?

Who among you stripped the agencies of all the funding? Don’t tell me — you are on that dream team that has raped our state.

In your hasty salivation over a logo and your “power” striving, you have done nothing. Less than zero, haven’t you?

The Gilded Age of the Democratic Party is OVER in California. And all the real California Democrats know it.

“…Despite the party’s success as Barack Obama won the biggest Democratic victory in California since 1936, Democrats are splintered over the state’s fiscal crisis.

Burton’s cherished aid programs for the poor and disabled are being cut to help the state close a deficit of more than $40 billion.

Some labor and liberal advocacy groups are turning against Democratic legislative leaders over the budget deal, including the May 19 special election initiatives that they say betray party principles…”

What we will build is the Green Age. Won’t we? In fact it is very possible right now that we may need some Republican women at the helm of that age. Movers and shakers? You know the types…

Democrats who felt betrayed this year?

Have no problems with Carly Fiorina. As long as she keeps her eyes on our state. It seems to me that the Republicans care about “Country First.” and believe me, so does any Democrat who has witnessed what Burton and I have. Why is it I feel that Fiorina could build grren tech here? She knows how…

Real California Democrats tend to read Grist? Take a look at this link…

GRIST!

Jerry vs. Gavin: The Sacto Party Smackdown

“. . . Jerry scoffed at Gavin’s Twitter boast: “You can’t solve the problems of California by Twitter”* . . .”

The focus on ACORN in recent weeks is bringing renewed attention to Clinton supporter’s complaints about the primaries/caucuses. While they were often time dismissed as simply being disgruntled that their candidate lost, the reality is that they’ve already had a run in with ACORN. One of the reasons this election is so close is that many Clinton supporters recognize that one person one vote is the cornerstone of democracy itself and more important than any singular issue as expressed by this Clinton – now McCain supporter.

Dear Eliza,

Many of you were strong Hillary Clinton supporters. In light of the recent events we realize that many of you are unsure how to best use your vote.

As democrats we find ourselves in a similar situation of doubt as to how best continue the fight this November election. In response, we have a created a site specifically for voters like you: democrats who wish to continue the fight we have worked so long and hard to support.

Visit ContinuingTheFight where we feature news and videos by and for democrats such as yourself. We, as a group, have decided to support Senator McCain’s bid for president this fall. At ContinuingTheFight you can also keep track of various campaign events and we hope you will find the opinions expressed in the site in line with yours.

Hillary’s defeat in the democratic primaries was a tough loss for all of us. But we should not let that discourage us now during such a tenuous point in our country’s history. Come join the movement at ContinuingTheFight and together we will make a difference by guiding the US into the future we know is right.

This email really pissed me off. I have no idea how they got my email but I really felt the need to write back. Initially, I was just going to send a nice little email and just ask them to remove me from their list, but I was so annoyed with this email, I ended up getting a little overboard with mine. Here’s my response to McCain Democrats:

Are you kidding me? McCain democrats? That’s an oxymoron. Please remove me from this list. As a Hillary Clinton supporter, I know exactly who I’m voting for. There is NO confusion. I’m voting for Obama. What is wrong with you people? In what deranged universe do you live? Do you honestly think that McCain represents what Hillary stands for? Seriously. Were you even democrats to begin with? Wow. Ridiculous.

Hillary’s defeat in the primaries was a tough loss for many of us. But for those of you who have decided to abandon support for the democratic candidate and support a candidate that stands against ALL that Hillary supports, makes her loss even more devastating. And your ridiculous logic makes me feel really sad for you. Seriously. Are you nuts?

———-

I’ll always be a Hillary supporter, but I will NEVER vote for McCain. And for all those other Hillary supporters who are even considering voting for McCain, please open your eyes and see the light. McCain is a male, chauvinist pig who does not believe in equal rights for women, equal pay for women, and in the woman’s right to choose. Ask yourself… What would Hillary do? I guarantee, she would not vote for McCain.

Experience; that’s the short answer. Experience is not a minor issue, ask any employer what they look for in a job applicant and see if there are any who don’t rank experience as a top requirement. For Independents a vote for McCain is hardly a stretch. Senator McCain has exhibited an independent streak over the years that has endeared him to many Independent voters. If you look at the primary results it was Independents that either put him over the top, or gave him his margin of victory in numerous states. Senator McCain is also well liked among many of his Democrat colleagues. President Clinton, Senators Clinton, Biden, and Fiengold have all made glowing statements about Senator McCain. These comments have been far more complimentary than some made by conservatives that don’t appreciate Senator McCain’s penchant for breaking with the party line. Senator McCain has a history of not only getting along with Democrats, but working with them on successful pieces of legislation. For moderate or conservative Democrats they may have issues where they disagree with Senator McCain, but the prevalent belief is that Congress will remain under Democratic control, and Senator McCain clearly can work with those Democrats to create a balanced government.

Finally the party faithful, and liberal Democrats. It’s understandable why some on the left would find it difficult to vote for any Republican if they never have before, or if they have strong objections to the Republican party. Senator McCain is an unrepentant Republican, but he has also repeatedly put his country’s interest before that of his party or himself. He has long championed the idea that people ‘dedicate themselves to something beyond their own self interest’. He has not just talked about it, but has lived it, and his family has lived it, as his sons currently serve in the military. Senator McCain has a superb human rights record. He was a critical player in getting anti-torture legislation passed. He consistently is a champion of the oppressed whether it is in Myanmar, Georgia, or Darfur.

Other Democrats and Independents are also coming to the conclusion that Senator McCain is the most qualified candidate ready to become President of the United States…

I’ve never voted for a Republican presidential candidate, but this year is different. I’m voting for John McCain.

Throughout the primary season, I supported Hillary Clinton. Between the final two Democratic contenders, Hillary was the only candidate who demonstrated leadership and a true understanding of key issues. She inspired millions of women around the country, Democrats and Republicans alike.

When Barack Obama became the presumptive Democrat nominee, I was faced with a difficult question: Could I support a candidate who gives good speeches but has no substance and little experience? No.

But the 54-year-old Democrat joined several other Hillary Clinton supporters, along with volunteers and officials from John McCain’s campaign, at a Happy Hour for Hillary.

The event, sponsored by the Republican National Committee and approved by the McCain campaign, was a chance for McCain and Clinton supporters to come together for one cause: their opposition to Barack Obama’s candidacy.

It has taken until the second day of the Democratic Convention to make some people understand that WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA. I know, they assumed that if they ignored us, we would all just go away.

JUST SAY NO DEAL!!!

ARE YOU HEARING US NOW?

What part of “Obama won’t be able to beat the Republicans” were you not getting earlier? Did all our emails, phone calls, faxes and letters fall on deaf ears?

Instead of “Clinton Republicans”, we get to hear about “McCain Democrats”.

This morning Rasmussen has come out with the news that McCain has gotten a 3 point bump from Obama’s Convention.

The Democratic National Convention has begun and the poll numbers are bouncing, but not in the direction that most people anticipated.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Barack Obama attracting 44% of the vote while John McCain also earns 44%. When “leaners” are included, it’s still tied with Obama at 46% and McCain at 46%. Yesterday, with leaners, Obama had a three-point advantage over McCain…

(UPDATE: Gallup has released it’s numbers this morning)

46% For McCain; 44% For Obama

PRINCETON, NJ — It’s official: Barack Obama has received no bounce in voter support out of his selection of Sen. Joe Biden to be his vice presidential running mate.

Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Aug. 23-25, the first three-day period falling entirely after Obama’s Saturday morning vice presidential announcement, shows 46% of national registered voters backing John McCain and 44% supporting Obama, not appreciably different from the previous week’s standing for both candidates. This is the first time since Obama clinched the nomination in early June, though, that McCain has held any kind of advantage over Obama in Gallup Poll Daily tracking.

Anyone want to lay bets on how bad Obama’s numbers are going to be by the time he supposedly receives his coronation at Invesco Field?

I wonder what Barack Obama’s real polling numbers are, since historically he always polls higher than reality.

According to Roland Martin, Democrats are dumb and the DNC should have squashed the opposition. How do you squash the voices of 52% of the Democratic Party? Fully half of the Democratic Party has been telling the DNC leadership that they would not fall in line, would not come home, would NOT VOTE for Barack Obama for months and now everybody is surprised that we are doing just that?

Why McCain can still win despite the Democrat advantage in party ID.

One of the things that Democrat supporters are using to get through the current drubbing in the Rasmussen polls is the argument that, although Clinton and Obama are in the doldrums, America is trending Democratic. They point to party ID statistics that suggest that Democrats lead 36% to 27% in identification and 44% to 40% in the generic congressional ballot. However, this is not necessarily a big help. The Republicans have nominated a candidate who pushed Gore into third place and reduced Kerry to 29% in hypothetical three-way match-ups in 2000 and 2004 respectively (the latter poll was carried out in 2002). There is also the strong possibility that the Republican ticket might include Joe Lieberman, the Democrat’s nominee in 2000. Indeed, McCain has vowed to ‘travel across the country in cities and rural areas, in communities of all ethnic backgrounds and income levels, offering my ideas and listening to the concerns and advice of Americans’.

The idea of Democrats voting for a Republican candidate may seem strange after the hyper-partisan elections of 2000 and 2004, but there is a strong historical precedent for people crossing over. Richard Nixon and Ronald Regan won landslides with electorates where, according to the exit polls, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 11% and 15% respectively. If we use congressional vote as a proxy for party identification, we find that national margins for the House of Representatives and the Presidential election are poorly correlated in the fifteen post-war elections, at 0.22 from 1948 to 2004 inclusive. In five out of fifteen of these elections the party that got a plurality of the congressional vote did not get a plurality in the contest for the White House. Indeed, from 1948-88 inclusive this divergence always worked against Democrats nationally, with the Democratic congressional candidates beating their Republican counterparts by 14.5% in the same year that McGovern was getting crushed by Nixon. Indeed, in 1956, 1960, 1972, 1976 and 1988 the differences between the margins were over 20 points.

Of course, it can be argued that much of this difference was due to the fact that the struggle for civil rights meant that there were two parties in the South, a ‘Democratic’ party devoted to civil rights and a ‘Dixiecrat’ party devoted to segregation, with the supporters of the latter voting for Democrat candidates at the congressional level. However, even if we exclude the struggle against racism by just looking at the last nine elections (during the 1972-2004 period) we find that the correlation not only decreases, but actually turns weakly negative to -0.27. Only if you included election data back to 1900 would you get a strongly positive correlation, but the model is of little comfort for Democrat supporters. Indeed, it produces the following equation; y = 0.4786x – 6.2653 (where y is the presidential margin and x is the congressional margin). In layman’s terms this means that the Democratic congressional vote will need to be running nearly 13% ahead of the Republican congressional vote before the Democrats can be expected to achieve a plurality in the contest for the White House. This doesn’t mean that McCain is entitled to a victory, as Clinton and Gore actually outperformed the congressional Democrats, just that it is very, very possible.

While the media is going gaga over the emergence of oh so creatively names “Obamacans” and trying to make it look like John McCain is doomed, John McLaughlin points out the obvious.

This man is running against Hillary Clinton. He is the lesser of two evils to many people. At the end of the day, The Republican Party rank and file is not going to support a fringe liberal, like Obama in the general election.

And frankly, I don’t think moderate Democrats want a fringe liberal either. I have a feeling that on November 5th, the question won’t be “How did Barack Obama win so many Republicans?” But rather “Why couldn’t Barack Obama hold his own party?”

If there was any question as to why Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, is the

If there was any question as to why Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, is the best choice for both the Republican party and the United States as a whole, Froma Harrop’s article at Real Clear Politics answers some of them.

The Republican Party has been looking to bring the “Reagan Democrats” back in to the fold since Ronald Reagan left office. For various reasons, over the last 20 years, the number has dropped. Its not because the country has moved to the left. Is not even that the Reagan Democrats themselves have become more liberal. They are, largely, blue-collar workers who care about national security, crime and taxes. But they are also socially slightly liberal to moderate. These are people that are probably not going to vote for someone on the fringe of the social spectrum.

This year, the Democrats are offering someone on the fringe left. Hillary Clinton and especially Barack Obama are liberal Democrats in the vein of George McGovern or Jimmy Carter. They offer higher taxes, big government, and uncertainty on national security. Barack Obama promises that in the first year of an Obama presidency, he’ll meet with madmen like Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without any preconditions. These are not plans that appeal to the lunchpale Democrats.

In contrast to that, the Republicans are offering up a man that has a record of tax cutting, small government and fiscal responsibility that lasts almost a quarter century. We are offering a man that has been a part of every foreign policy move this country has made over the last 20 years. A man that was a squadron commander in the Navy. A man that suffered for five and a half years for his country. A man that is uniquely gifted to handle a national crisis at 3 AM.

So on November 4 2008, the Democrats are going to offer naive, uncertain leadership with big government solutions that failed thirty years ago. The Republicans will offer a naval captain war hero who has a quarter century of responsible fiscal policy and smart foreign policy.

Who do you think the Reagan Democrats will pick?
