McFly is a British, BRIT Award winning pop rock band who first found fame in 2004.

McFly’s song ‘Star Girl’ was played in the outer space by NASA. McFly had the track played to astronauts orbiting Earth after fans bombarded NASA with messages on Twitter.

You can read the entire article here

McFly is one of my favourite bands J and I came to know about them only after seeing the movie “Just My Luck” .The band members are Tom Fletcher (lead vocals–guitar), Danny Jones (lead vocals–guitar), Dougie Poynter (vocals–bass guitar) and Harry Judd (drums).

Their debut single, “5 Colours in Her Hair”, entered the UK Singles Chart at number 1 in the year 2004.

My all time favourite song is “Walk in the Sun” from the album “Motion in the Ocean”. I personally feel so peaceful and happy whenever I hear this song. The beauty about the song is the single rhythm which goes on for the entire track. McFly has a unique kind of style in their music and my IPod is filled with every one of them. What to say? ‘I’m addicted’

When I used to write a blog on MySpace, back in the day, every year I would write an entry about my

When I used to write a blog on MySpace, back in the day, every year I would write an entry about my top ten albums of the year. I think I only managed to do it twice, but I thought, in the absence of any other amazing ideas for blogs, that I would resurrect it for fun. I’ve bought a lot of music this year so it’s a tough choice to make.

First of all, I should clarify the rules. In order to get into the top 10 it must be an album that I’ve bought in this calendar year. It doesn’t matter when the album was released, as long as it is new to me this year, so if you see anything and wonder why it’s in there because it’s really old, then it means I only just bought it. Don’t judge me for it!

When I was deciding to do the blog I thought I’d take a look back at my old MySpace Blog to see what I’d chosen in the previous years that I’d done it. The first year I did it for was 2006, when I was 17. Quite predictably for that time, when I was uncontrollably obsessed with McFly and Dougie Poynter in particular, I chose Motion in the Ocean as my album of the year. I stand by that. It was a good album, and judging by the other shit in the top 10, such as Son of Dork (vom), it didn’t have much competition. As it turns out, that was the only blog I wrote on Album of the Year, so this will only be the second time that I’ve written one! Poor show!

Anyway, as I’ve said, this year has been a very fruitful music year, which has made the decision rather difficult! If you clicked on the link and managed to trawl through the pages of bitching, being snobby, and purple writing to find my previous Album of the Year you will know that I decided to do it in reverse order, so as to build ’suspense’. It’s just like X-Factor!

10.

3 Words - Cheryl Cole

Despite the fact that the album got really crappy reviews, I really did enjoy the majority of it. Granted, there are a few songs, such as the title track 3 Words, Heaven, and Don’t Talk About This Love which are really rather uneventful, but gems like Fight For This Love, and Parachute more than made up for it. I really enjoyed it anyway.

9.

Guilty Pleasure - Ashley Tisdale

If, at the start of the year, someone had told me that an Ashley Tisdale album would have been in my top 10 albums of the year I probably would have spat in their faces. However, true to its name, this album really was a Guilty Pleasure over this summer. It does jump about a bit with regards to style, but I think that’s one of the reasons I loved it so much. It was jolly and easy to listen to. As those of you that follow me on Twitter will know, it normally takes me a couple of listens to get into an album, but this grabbed me straight away. My favourite song is probably Switch, closely followed by Me Without You, and Hair, which at first I didn’t like because the lyrics were stupid, but gradually loved because it’s that catchy!

8.

Almost Here - The Academy Is...

I got myself a slice of Almost Here action back in May during my revision time, and I absolutely loved it. I also downloaded their newer albums but I didn’t think they lived up to the vibrant sound of Almost Here. I think some bands have a tendency to take themselves too seriously on their second album, like Panic At The Disco’s horrendous Pretty.Odd. That was a piece of shit. I was going to physically buy a copy, but I placed my order on amazon in June, and still hadn’t received it in September… bad times! My favourite song from the album is definitely Black Mamba, mainly because the chorus is so sharp.

7.

JLS - JLS

I’ve only got this album within the last few weeks, and it’s one of the rare occurrences that I like an album instantly. I think as time progresses it may be one that loses its shine a bit, but at the moment I haven’t listened to anything else for the past couple of weeks. There are some really good pop/R&B tracks on the album, which kind of takes me back to when I was a bit younger and that was the main thing I listened to. I think the fact that two of them are really good-looking helps their cause. What!? I’m shallow! Favourite songs would have to be Everybody In Love, which has rapidly entered by Top 25 played on iTunes, and also Only Tonight, and One Shot, which I’ve had on repeat today!

6.

Wordshaker - The Saturdays

In a similar way to Ashley Tisdale, I never would have expected The Saturdays to be in my top 10. I also bought Chasing Lights this year, which I enjoyed, but not as much as this album. There are a few songs on the album that i think are a bit mundane, such as Ego, Deeper, and 2AM, but the rest of the album is made up of some really pretty solid pop. The title track grabbed me from the off, with its calypso like vibes, but I think my favourites on this album are No-One, Denial, and Not Good Enough.

5.

Love At The Core - Run Kid Run

Run Kid Run had been on my ‘to download’ list forever, and I finally got round to doing it this year. It’s a short album, but I think I love every song that’s on it. It’s really great, energetic guitar music, and their voices are really good as well. Although I’m not really religious, I do kind of like it when bands I like sing about God, because it means I can impress my Mum! I’m very cool like that. I think I’d find it very difficult to pick a favourite, as I’ve rated the majority of them 5 stars on iTunes, but if I was forced I would go for either Fall Into The Light, Sure Shot, or Rescue Me.

4.

The Fame - Lady GaGa

I know that that’s a little bit of a cliché this year, but when I got the album back at the start of the year I was pretty obsessed with it. There are so many songs on the album that I’d put on repeat and listen to for ages. The album itself I found too long. Generally I think about 12 or 13 tracks is the right amount for an album. I normally feel short-changed if I get 10, and bored when there are 15. I haven’t got her latest album yet, but apparently it’s only got 8 tracks, which is a bit rubbish, although one of them is a Beyoncé duet, which is always exciting. My favourite song on the album by far is Starstruck, which is a real electro-pop beauty I’ve played about 50 times, including the many hours on the train spent miming to it in the window and pretending I was in a music video. I’m very cool. Leave me alone.

3.

Don't You Fake It - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

I remember when I first downloaded this album I ended up deleting half of the songs because I didn’t like the fact that they were screaming in my ears at certain points. The songs that I kept I absolutely loved and as a result I decided to actually buy it and as a result I listened to the songs with the shouting that I’d written off before, and loved them! I think they have a real talent for writing amazing hooks. I always feel better emotions towards an album if I was listening to it at a good time, and it just reminds me of a wintery day in February when I went to rural Essex with Mum and Dad and had a great day. There are lots of songs on the album that I love, and as a result I can’t really choose between my four favourites, which are Damn Regret, Face Down, False Pretense and Waiting.

2.

A Lesson In Romantics - Mayday Parade

Again, this is an album that I downloaded first and loved it so much that I bought it. I originally started listening to them because I’d heard a someone do a cover of Jamie All Over and loved the song. As it goes, I ended up preferring the cover, but that was just because the cover was that good! A lot of the time with albums I’ll know the songs really well, but if someone asked me what the songs were called I wouldn’t have a clue for the most of them. In some of the songs, the titles are ridiculous, but that’s not enough to put me off. I recently bought their second album. I haven’t listened to it very much because of my recent obsession with Cheryl Cole, and then JLS, but I don’t think it’s going to live up to A Lesson In Romantics. I have so many songs on the album which I’ve rated 5 stars so it’s really difficult to choose. I think my favourites are Black Cat, When I Get Home You’re So Dead, Miserable At Best, Walk On Water or Drown, I’d Hate to be You When People Find Out What This Song’s About, and Ocean and Atlantic. I know that that’s basically half of the album, but it’s that good!

Clearly it’s now time to break out the drumroll…

1.

brand new eyes - paramore

Maybe the drumroll wasn’t quite so necessary, as that probably comes as no surprise. I must say though, thinking about it now I think that maybe it’s more of a joint first place with Mayday Parade. However, I do love this album very much. As always, Hayley’s voice is incredible, and I really like the direction they’ve come in. I love the fact that the album tells a story, and the fact that it’s auto-biographical for the band means that I get more feeling from it. There are so many songs on the album that give me goosebumps, either because of the lyrics, or the music, especially on the second half of the album, which is so amazing. There is one song on the album that I’m not too keen on, which is The Only Exception which I find a little boring. Including that song, there are only 3 songs on the album which I have failed to rate 5 stars. When it comes to picking favourites, again it’s difficult. I love Ignorance, because it reminds me of RIOT which was an amazing album. I also love Brick By Boring Brick, which was the second song that I heard from the album, and became my most listened to song on iTunes within about a week, with over 100 plays. However, I think that my favourite songs are Looking Up, Where The Lines Overlap and All I Wanted. The latter is in that list based on the fact that Hayley’s voice on that track is absolutely spine-tinglingly amazing. The other two songs have such great messages behind them, and they really make me smile, especially the line “I can’t believe we almost hung it up/ We’re just getting started.’ So, that is my album of the year!

I hope that wasn’t too tedious for you! There are some notable absences from the list, the most prominent of which was All Time Low’s Nothing Personal. I did like the album, but it didn’t live up to my expectations, which I think were artificially high, what with So Wrong, It’s Right being a real turning point in my musical tastes, and one of my favourite albums of all time. Anyway, thank you very much for listening to me jabber on.

Louise:

My brain is so full of iCarly and Say Anything and my lack of talent at wrapping various Christmas presents that I can’t remember what I said last time, but really, people of England and the adjacent nations who shop at Argos, it is not part of our job description to know every single catalogue number. And why do you pay for like a five part order of some rather expensive things, and then leave without actually collecting them? The poor unknowing helpless lady trapped in the telly calling out random order numbers to an empty shop until we clear them from the screen must feel so silly. It’s quite funny what some people buy, though.

As predicted, however, Friday was a marvelous day until like 4.20 at which time I had to go catch a bus to work. I didn’t want to go to work. I had a good time at work. I didn’t even mind staying 45 minutes later than I had to so we could put the jewellery delivery into the jewellery cupboard. Overtime ftw! Wasn’t too happy when I was up at 7am ON A SATURDAY to be at work for 8.30 though. I never used to be able to get up in the morning and would have like 764535399397452 alarms to wake me up, and I would still be late, but ever since like, year eleven I have been able to get up as soon as my alarm goes off and I find this very confusing as it is not normal teenage behaviour, but anyway, mumma came in at 6.45 this morning for whatever reason and said to me “Are you up yet? It’s quarter to seven and your bus is at eight” and I was like GO AWAY, I HAVE FIFTEEN MINUTES LEFT OF SLEEP AND I INTEND TO SPEND IT SLEEPING. I’d set my alarm and I fully intended on waking up, it’s as if though my mum thinks because it’s a Saturday it is physically impossible for me to be up before 11am, which it wasn’t, but anyway, alarm went off at 7 and I spent like 2 minutes deleting pointless twitter updates from my inbox, and then at 7.03 mother promptly yells through the wall GET UP LOUISE IT’S PAST SEVEN and I’m just like, go away mother, I am a grown up. Nearly.

How I’m going to cope at uni I have no idea. Though I can cook for myself and various other people, and use a washing machine and I like to do the ironing. Oh my god I am going to be killed my first week. I actually am. I’m going to be one of those people who has a constantly tidy room. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME? Why do I lie, it is an almost impossibility for me to keep my room tidy, this will never ever ever happen ever in my life ever. My children will have the most immaculate rooms though, I promise you.

That is if I pass my A Levels, get into university and get a life, you know. I have until Thursday to do my English coursework and I’m not getting anywhere. I don’t even know where it is. I may just turn into a pierced delinquent who works at Argos. With my ear piercings. (Must state that Bethany was so brave to get her ear pierced after watching me get mine done, I most certainly would not have because I watched her get hers done after I’d had mine. It looked like she’d been stabbed with a screwdriver, as I was unaware they leave the needle in your ear for a bit, just hanging there.) I could never be a delinquent. I feel bad for finding a fiver on the floor and spending it. Charlotte actually found it but yeah, we spent like the whole bus journey home in fits of teenage giggles.

Oh my god I actually just realised the extent of the lack of my social life. The only texts I swear I get now are ones from twitter letting me know what Elliot Minor, Tom Fletcher and Mr Felton are currently up to in their famous little lives. Makes me sad I don’t even know what is going on.

Rascal Flatts are a band that I love so much, but they have the incredible ability to either make you happier when you feel you couldn’t actually get any happier, or just make you want to boo your eyes out, which is what I feel like doing right now, fml.

Oh dear. And it’s all because of you

By Rahsian Parris

On the 28th of November, Elliot Minor rocked the socks off an adoring crowd at the HMV Picture House in Edinburgh. Music News went backstage before the show to catch up with two of the Elliot Minor boys who spilled the beans on their new album Solaris.

I am standing in a tiny box size office that is directly above the stage at the HMV Picture House, Edinburgh. The rocking bass line, from the tunes of support band, Franko, are making the floor hum slightly and as I look around the ‘office’, the door that I am stood beside creeks open and Alex Davies pops his head round and introduces himself with a warm handshake. I inquire as to whether I will have the pleasure of just chatting to him today or whether the other band members will be joining us. Of course I do not mind either way, however, it is a particularly small room (with only two chairs, a desk baring a Macbook Pro and a couple of loose wires, it is more cupboard than ‘office’) and I am thinking that I do not want to be held responsible for the aching legs of rock superstars-to-be. Thus, we agree that he (Alex) should be accompanied by Ed Minton, the group’s guitarist, and that the two boys can have the seats whilst I stand.

MN: So what exactly is this room and whose laptop is that?

AD & EM: (Laughter)

EM: This is Gary, our manager’s, office, that’s his laptop

AD: It’s tiny

MN: Well as long as it ‘works’ and it’s comfy…

AD: (Nods) Yeah. True

MN: So… Ed and Alex?

AD & EM: Mmmm Hmmm, yup

MN: What instruments do you guys play?

AD: I sing and play guitar

EM: Same really

MN: (At Alex) You’re lead vocals Alex?

AD: Yeah that’s right

MN: (At Ed) Are there any songs that you sing on your own?

EM: No not really, I sing parts by myself, but once in a while

MN: So I’m really excited about your song ‘All Along’, who wrote that one? And do you usually write together?

AD: Yeah, I tend to write the songs

MN: So how did ‘All Along’ come about?

AD: Well the style is quite ‘Something Corporate’(y), you know, a piano song that is quite exposed and there’s not a lot of parts in it; that was the whole inspiration behind the song. It’s a bit like Konstantine, I don’t know if you’re familiar with that song

MN: Actually it’s one of my favourite songs ever

AD: Yeah, well it’s like that. It’s a bit like a Hymn really, which I thought was really cool

MN: Ed do you sing any vocals on this one?

EM: (Enthusiastically) Yeah. It’s quite cool because the vocals get quite choral at the end, it’s a good build up, by the end of it it’s just like there are vocals everywhere and the chord progressions (makes a satisfied sound)

MN: Yeah I love those epic kind of songs. So what’s your favourite song from Solaris?

AD: Hmmm (looks up), I think either ‘All Along’ actually, but I still really like ‘Solaris’ and ‘Carry On’

EM: I like ‘Coming Home’, well I obviously like all of them, but my mind keeps changing. I don’t really dislike any of them, but the only one I can skip on the album is probably ‘Electric High’ because I’ve just heard it too much, do you know what I mean?

AD: Yeah, it’s probably one of the more simple ones, whereas we kinda play more complex ones

MN: Ok. So are there any that you just have to put on repeat all the time?… I know they’re your own songs but…

(Laughter)

EM: Yeah that would be really bad (laughs)

AD: ‘Shiver’, I like ‘Shiver’ a lot

EM: (Nods) ‘Shiver’? Yeah, that one just reminds me of playing live, it’s kind of really different

MN: So does how you like a song differ then? How you like them when listening to the recording as appose to playing it live?

AD: Uhm, a little bit. We kinda speed up every song, like ten beats per minute anyways because it does seem quite slow when you play it live, so we speed it up; but then I guess you have the big guitars that come through live a lot more than they come through on the records. This album, all in all, is much more of a live album anyway, as appose to our first one, so we’ve already kind of got the live sound there on the album

MN: So what is the most difficult thing when recording an album?

AD: I think something that is a bit more strenuous and frustrating is the guitar…

EM: (Animated) AAAAah, guitar, yeah!

AD: …because you have to tune every single chord

EM: And Jim (the producer) is a perfectionist on guitars as well, so if you’re even a little bit out of tune you can sit there for hours trying to get out four or five chords because he’s so picky about it. I don’t think it really makes that much of a difference at this point

AD: …But it pays of because when it’s dead in tune, the guitar chords, you have this brilliance, this really nice sound, no frequency clash, it’s worth getting it right

EM: Singing? It can get quite stressful, but you know (shrugs) it’s alright. If think, first thing in the morning, I dunno, you have wait at least a few hours into the day just to kind of wake up instead of going straight into it

MN: It’s interesting that you mentioned the guitar thing. There are times when I am listening to other bands and think “that guitar, that’s definitely out of tune”

AD & EM: (together) yeah yeah, defnitely

AD: I think different producers just have a complete different approach on it. Some just want you to get a really live performance so, you tune it a little bit, but you just play the song until it’s finished so it’s gonna sound more out of tune. Whereas, other producers are more concerned about getting it really well recorded and you put the time and effort into it, because that’s what it is, time and effort.

EM: Indie bands?

AD: Not like Indie bands

EM: No, well Indie bands just jangle their way through the whole song and think ‘that’s it, my jobs done’

AD: Yeah, jangly guitars. Well it’s a different sound, it’s not right or wrong, just a different genre of sound

MN: So lets talk about the tour… How do you manage to make every performance different? I would imagine that with so many dates and being on tour for so long, half way through you probably get into a bit of a routine, but every crowd is different and there are always people at every show that haven’t seen the show before or haven’t heard the songs. How do you get around the ‘routine’?

AD: The vibes from people

EM: Yeah, I think you’ve got to play off the crowd a little bit…but it applies to venues too. If the stage is tiny, you’ve got a completely different show than if you’re playing in some big theater. I dunno, you don’t really think about it, you just kind of do what comes naturally when you’re there. We played in London the other day and the stage was just huge, compared to what we’ve been doing. It was the biggest venue we’ve had on this tour. We’ve been playing in little clubs up until the London show and it was like, we don’t really know what to do, we’re all about ten meters away from each other and it was like ‘woah’, but we manage to figure something out

MN: Who’s been the best crowd so far?

AD: Manchester? I think Birmingham and Manchester. London was great. All the major cities are great. Probably Birmingham. No Manchester

EM: Birmingham AND Manchester

MN: Why?

AD: Because you get those crowd that just come and watch you and they just wanna watch the show, then you get those crowds that are just full of energy and we definitely play off of that high ‘thing’. That’s what we wanna have, a really energetic crowd; and we play off of each other, so, I think, purely for that reason, I think those crowds were just a little bit more exciting than the rest of them

MN: So lets rewind a little bit to your first show. You won a competition to support McFly, how were the McFly fans?

AD: (really upbeat) They’re great and [McFly] are a really good live band, it was such a long time ago I can’t even remember (laughter)

EM: We didn’t really know what to expect

AD: We learned a lot from that performance, they really know how to do it, put on a good show and it was great, they’re lovely guys, the band is really good

EM: McFly’s fans are very responsive as well

AD: Yeah, there’s very high pitched squealing as well

MN: Well I was having a chat with a few fans earlier, maybe you can clear this up. Rumour has it that there’s a feud going on between you guys and McFly, what’s that about?

AD: (Genuinely looks puzzled) What? A Feud? No, not at all. Dougie came to one of our London shows, we get on really well

EM: Oh right! This is the first I’ve heard of a feud

AD & EM: (voices rise and they talk loudly, over each other about the ‘non feud’)

AD: No really, we get on really well

MN: Ok, I believe you (smile)

MN: If there’s any band you could play alongside with, who would it be?

AD: Ooh that’s a really hard one

EM: Yeah super hard

AD: I know who

EM: Who?

AD: Sigur Ros

MN: (Excited gasp) I love them, they are amaaaaazing

AD: Totally, it would be the perfect collaboration. They are amazing aren’t they?

(Alex goes on to tell us about his favourite Sigur Ros song and we get on to how Elliot Minor met and how they started out just playing acoustically)

MN: Do you ever think you will go back to your acoustic roots then?

AD: Yeah well I think that’s what we love about being in this band, we just wanna try new things out the whole time and we’d love to release an acoustic EP or something (looks at Ed), that might be the next thing to do actually, after this

MN: Definitely!

MN: I heard, from Ed..(laughter)

AD: (At Ed) Oh no, what’ve you been saying?

MN: (At Alex)… that you would like to cover the Black Eyed Peas if you could. Is that true?

AD: Oh yeah. Yeah totally! I’m not really such a big fan of that music, but I really like that song

MN: Which song is it?

AD: (Starts rapping attentively) Tonight’s the night (forgets the words) da da da DA

(we all laugh hysterically)

MN: Oh, you mean ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’?

(more laughter)

AD: Yeah. Ali got it for me, for my birthday, he bought me the album

ED: (shakes his head) No no, its not gonna happen…

AD: (dum dums the tune to the chorus of ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’)

ED: You can’t rap

MN: (laughs)

MN: On ‘Live Lounge’ you did a cover of Take That’s ‘Rule The World’, how did that come about?

AD: I think we just go asked to do it

EM: It’s the scariest thing we’ve EVER done

AD: Oh it was horrible

EM: Just because everything was COMPLETELY live so if you screwed up, that’s it, that’s your chance gone. We were meant to do a different song, by Sugababes, ‘About You Now’

MN: That would’ve been amazing

AD: Yeah it would’ve been great, a great cover

EM: We had it all ready, then it was literally a day before Live Lounge and our record label called us up and said the “The Cortinas are covering it so you’ve got to do a different one”. So we were there, the night before Live Lounge, in the rehearsal studio trying to figure out how to play ‘Rule The World’. Then we woke up the next day and it was just nerve wracking as hell

AD: (nods gravely) It was

EM: (nods towards Alex) We thought he’d done a runner. We’d all just got in a taxi to go to Radio 1 and no one knew where Alex had gone and he wasn’t picking up his phone and we thought “oh shit, he’s actually done a runner”, but then it was ok, he eventually showed up.

AD: (lowers his voice and shakes his head) It was just so scary, really really scary

MN: It was so good though, that was the first I had heard of Elliot Minor and I am a bit Take That fan, I was impressed

AD: Oh yeah? Really?

EM: It was so funny because straight after Jo Wiley came up to us and was like “so guys we’re gonna put that on the CD right?

MN: And you recently did ‘Battle Fields by Jordin Sparks right?

EM: Yeah, I really liked that

AD: Yeah, what a cool song, amazing song

EM: It’s actually the chord progression to ‘All Along’

MN: Really?

EM: Yeah, but that song hadn’t come out yet

AD: ‘All Along’s actually a little more complex

MN: You guys should release a covers album or something

AD: Dya reckon?

MN: Yeah that would be awesome

AD: That’s a really good idea actually

EM: Yeah, totally

AD: (Nods and talks to Ed) We’ll definitely think about it. It wouldn’t take really long to do would it? Just go back home and record it

MN: So you guys are getting pretty famous

AD: We are? Really?

MN: Yeah totally. How successful would you like to be?

AD: I think we’d just like to have a HUGE album, a bit hit, just so people listen to the album, just because it’s a really good album and it’s hard to get it out there unless you have something like a huge hit because it really is a promotional tool

MN: So do you think you will just do ‘this’ for as long as you enjoy doing it, no matter how many fans you have?

AD: Yeah and the longer you can stick around, it shows something as well, you gain credibility…some bands…they get really lucky and get big straight away and some it takes them ten years. It’s just time and luck. I think the longer you’re around the more likely you’re gonna make it

MN: So Ed told me about this great mug for his green tea that he got from a fan, what’s the best thing a fan has given you Alex?

AD: As a band we got given this Plaque

EM: Yeah, it was this picture of us that this artist had done

AD: It’s just WoooooW

EM: We’ve got it hanging up in the studio at home

AD: Yeah and we still need to get our plaque, you know, for our album (laughs), we’re nearly there, yeah, I think we’re nearly there. That would be cool

MN: Well really best of luck with that guys

AD: That’s another reason to get a hit, just so you can get (emphasises) ‘the plaque’

MN: Yeah that’s what everyone wants isn’t it? The platinum disc

AD: Yeah totally, or I might just think f*** it, I’m gonna make one

(we all burst out laughing)

AD: Yeah, I’m serious, make your own, you know, get your dads vinyl out, spray paint it, get a marker and write ‘Elliot Minor…one BILLION albums’

(we are all still laughing)

MN: So what are you guys up to after this?

AD: Well we’re going to Ireland, we’ve got three dates in Ireland, gonna do a bit of recording I think, we’re working on getting another single together and work on one of the tracks, make it a bit more single suited and we’ll probably just be in the studio I think. [Ed's] going back to Japan.

EM: Yeah I’m going back to Japan to see my family

MN: Ok, great! Well thanks guys, it’s been a fantastic interview

MICHAEL JACKSON’S DEBT IS PAID OFF

This Is It has raised over £150m for the Jackson estate

THE debts that plunged Michael Jackson’s life into turmoil have been cleared, barely five months after his death.

Music royalties and box-office takings for the film This Is It have brought in almost half-a-billion dollars to the King of Pop’s estate. The phenomenal flow of cash, which does not include income from Jackson souvenirs and memorabilia, more than covers the estimated £250million he owed. Administrators John Branca and John McClain still face at least six lawsuits, originally filed against the singer but now transferred to his estate. These include a £180million action by New Jersey based company AllGood Entertainment that claims Jackson reneged on a planned pay-per-view TV reunion concert with his brothers in Texas.Hollywood director John Landis, who made the singer’s 1983 Thriller video, is also suing for an undisclosed sum over alleged non- payment of his share of the profits.A spokesman for the administrators said yesterday: “Our attorneys are in negotiations with various parties on a number of unresolved issues. We expect these to be amicably resolved by early in the New Year.”Even hefty out-of-court settlements and legal fees won’t make much of a dent in Jackson’s posthumous fortune and future earning potential, according to financial experts.Jackson was already No3 on Forbes Magazine’s annual list of highest- grossing dead celebrities, behind fashion icon Yves St Laurent and composers Rodgers & Hammerstein, before This Is It was released last month. By yesterday, the film had raked in almost $240million worldwide, according to online monitor Box Office Mojo, with eventual income from DVD sales expected to double that. Sales of the spin-off double CD, which has made the top 10 in more than 120 countries, as well as re-releases of Jackson’s classic albums, are “conservatively” expected to top £180million by Christmas, according to Sony Music.

Forbes senior editor Matthew Miller believes the Jackson phenomenon will continue to dominate the magazine’s dead celebrity chart for years to come. His posthumous earnings already dwarf those of Elvis Presley, whose estate made only £34 in the current financial year. Mr Miller said: “In life, Michael sank into uncontrollable debt, raising enormous loans to pay for other ones he couldn’t afford. He was, basically, a multi-millionaire living a billionaire lifestyle.”Now, in an ironic twist, financial experts predict Jackson’s estate could be as much as a billion dollars in profit by the end of next year, with plans to launch as many as six new CDs.The cash bonanza removes any financial uncertainty there may have been over the future of the singer’s three children, Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II.Mr Miller said: “If they chose, none of them would have to work a single day in their lives.”

That’s awful. She’s had such a tragic life that woman.”Henry’s show has 120,000 viewers a day. Susan Boyle’s debut CD sold 134,000 copies on its first day of release.

15 Yr Old Murderer

Fifteen-year-old Alyssa Bustamante aged considerably Wednesday when a Missouri judge ruled that she should be tried as an adult for allegedly strangling a 9-year-old neighbor a week after digging a grave for the girl.

The judge also entered a not guilty plea on her behalf after she was indicted on charges of first-degree murder. She is being held without bond. The teenager had told state police that she wanted to know what the experience was like, a highway patrol officer said.”Ultimately, she stated she wanted to know what it felt like,” Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Rice testified in court Wednesday. She also allegedly cut the girl’s throat and stabbed her.”She committed the murder after deliberation, which means cool deliberation or cool reflection on the matter for any length of time,” Cole County prosecutor Mark Richardson told the court Wednesday.Elizabeth Olten’s body was found in a wooded area near her home in St. Martins Oct. 23 after the suspect led police to it, after which she was arrested, authorities said. The girl had vanished Oct. 21, but it wasn’t long after that police found what Cole Country Sheriff Greg White called “written evidence” that led them to Bustamante. If convicted, Bustamante could be sentenced to life in prison. The suspect did not have a prior criminal record, police said But there were signs of a troubled past.On the teen’s YouTube page, a video appears to show the suspect with her brothers purposefully shocking themselves on an electrified fence. On what appears to be her Twitter page, her messages speak of “addiction” and “terrors.”One Tweet: “& all I want in life is a reason for all this pain.”A grim portrait of Bustamante emerged earlier based on writings on the Internet, including a YouTube profile in which “killing people” is listed under the girl’s hobbies. In court, officials said the teenager had attempted suicide in 2007 and has been taking an antidepressant ever since.”If one of the priorities or focus of her life everyday is pain, then it would be natural to pull people into it, to inflict pain upon them,” said Brad Garrett, a former FBI profiler and ABC News consultant.

A woman who had a teenage romance with X Factor star Danyl Johnson has revealed how they split up when he hooked up with a man.Katie Swales, 27, says Johnson was the love of her life and she had no idea he was bisexual as they dated for six months. She thought their relationship was going well but he dumped her by phone and she later found out he had started seeing a man.And she cast doubt on Johnson’s revelation in August that he is bisexual, saying that as far as she knows she has been his only girlfriend. The pair met aged 17 when they were on an arts course in Reading and soon started dating.’Even now, it’s a joke between friends that I turned Danyl gay. But at the time, I had no idea he had any doubts about his sexuality,’ Miss Swales told the Sunday Mirror. She wondered whether he fancied her enough because he did not want to sleep with her, she added. Her friends also thought her boyfriend ‘a bit camp’. ‘Even now, watching him on TV, I can’t see it but they did. They used to ask me if I’d noticed it,’ she said. She told the paper Johnson was more attentive when they were on nights out and that a friend later said he had not wanted anyone to think he was gay. When he dumped her, the budding singer ‘kept saying it was him and not me’ and Miss Swales realised he was not going to change his mind. She says she is baffled now at his admission that he is bisexual because, after they split up, she always believed he was gay.’I can only think he was told to say that so he would get both the gay and the straight vote,’ she said. But a source close to Johnson denied anyone else had been involved in the split. The dance teacher, from Reading, revealed his bisexuality in August after wowing the X Factor judges in his first audition and becoming an early favourite to win the £1million recording contract on offer.’I am a massive flirt. I wouldn’t rule out someone just because of their gender,’ he said at the time.

Danyl on X Factor last night. He is battling for a place in the quarter final

Since then, he has been pictured out and about with both men and women amid ongoing speculation about his love life.X Factor judge Dannii Minogue sparked fury on the first live show when she appeared to make a reference to his sexuality.Mr Johnson, 27, performed a rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s I’m Telling You, but altered the lyrics to make it appear he was singing to a woman rather than a man.Minogue said: ‘If we’re to believe what we read in the papers, there was no need to switch the gender reference in that song’ but later apologised.Johnson is now battling for a place in the quarter-final, with tonight’s results set to decide which of the five acts will not make it to the next round.

Wax Factor: Hirsute Simon Cowell has hair stripped from back of his hands

With his bright white smile and permanently tanned skin, Simon Cowell makes no secret of the importance of his appearance. But the multi-millionaire X Factor judge has now taken his vanity to another level – by getting the hair on the back of his hands removed. The 50-year-old, whose hairy chest is a regular feature of the holiday season in the Caribbean, has been booking himself for some hot-wax beauty treatments.

Gone tomorrow… The back of Simon Cowell’s hand is clearly hair-free

And the difference is noticeable. Cowell’s hands are now silky smooth – in stark contrast to his forearms, which are covered in thick, dark hair. The music mogul, who was seen minus the fuzz by 14million viewers on ITV’s X Factor last night, has also previously admitted to having injections to get rid of the lines in his face.He said: ‘I’ve had botox. But, then again, pretty much everyone I know has, except Cheryl Cole.’

McFly rocker Danny replaces Miss England ‘08 girlfriend with ‘07 model

Well im sorry…I met Danny Jones and the rest of Mcfly when I stayed at The Lowry Hotel one night…they invited me in to their after show party and as everyone partied…he slowly turned into a grade A tosser…so dont worry love…hes no loss.

When it comes to must-have gadgets and cars the general rule is the newer the better. But it seems this rule doesn’t apply to Miss England models.Pop rocker Danny Jones from McFly has replaced his Miss England 2008 girlfriend with Miss England 2007, according to newspaper reports. The lucky musician first dated the ‘08 beauty queen Laura Coleman after they met at the Miss World finals in South Africa.

Seeing double: Danny Jones is reportedly dating Miss England ‘07 Georgia Horsley (left) He has previously had a relationship with Miss England ‘08 Laura Coleman (right)

Gentlemen prefer blondes: Danny performs with McFly at Liverpool Arena. It seems he makes a habit of dating Miss England winners

The 23-year-old chart topper ditched his long-term girlfriend Olivia Shaw, 25, for Laura soon after the meeting and they went on to date for a number of months. But now sources have revealed a ‘mystery blonde’ seen on Danny’s arm recently is none other than Georgia Horsley, the winner of Miss England 2007. It seems Danny, whose hits with McFly include That Girl, is irresistibly drawn to long lustrous locks and dazzling white teeth. The girlfriend swap happened after the cheeky chap was invited to this year’s Miss London competition. The event was co-hosted by close friends Georgia and Laura but attendees reported Danny was soon showing a decided preference for 22-year-old Georgia. ‘You could see that Danny and Georgia were going to get together. All the chemistry was there,’ a friend of Laura’s said last night. ‘Laura really cared about Danny,’ the friend told The Sunday Mirror. ‘It’s particularly hurtful that he’s run off with Georgia.’ However, a Miss England spokeswoman insisted Laura and Georgia are still friends despite the new relationship. She said the Miss England camp wished the new couple ‘all the best’.

A TV presenter faced a furious backlash after branding singing star Susan Boyle “retarded”.Complaints flooded in after former BBC man Paul Henry laughed as he described how the singer was “starved of oxygen” at birth. His co-host on New Zealand TV’s Breakfast Show, Pippa Wetzell said: “That is not funny. That’s awful. She’s had such a tragic life that woman.”Henry’s show has 120,000 viewers a day. Susan Boyle’s debut CD sold 134,000 copies on its first day of release.

The judge also entered a not guilty plea on her behalf after she was indicted on charges of first-degree murder.

I loved X Factor’s Danyl Johnson but he dumped me for a man, reveals ex-girlfriend

Katie Swales went out with Danyl when they were both teenagers

Conheci a Liberdade, comi no Girafa’s *-* HAHHAHAHA.

Btw, hoje me bateu depressão pós-HP e pós-show-do-mcfly/cine ._.

HAHAHHA.

So, this is the end. See you guys in the next post.

xoxo :*

By Rahsian Parris

Elliot Minor - From Left to Right: Ed Minton, Dan Hetherton, Alex Davies, Ali Paul and Ed Hetherton

I recently caught up with Ed Minton (from band of the moment, Elliot Minor), who took some time out of the bands hectic UK tour to talk about their new album Solaris, dish the dirt on his band mates and shed some light on what really happens on tour with one of Britain’s favourite pop rockers.

I am anxious, my palms feel clammy and all of a sudden I feel overwhelmed. Is my voice shaking? I am introducing myself and I start to stutter, why am I giggling like an excited child? Maybe it is because I am about to talk to a founding member of one of my favourite bands. I manage to get my name out and ask Ed how he is, “Hiya, I’m very well thank you. How are you?” he says. Much to my surprise, the young, modest voice on the other end of the line is instantly comforting and just like that, it is like talking to an old friend. I answer his polite question, mentioning how petrified I am and slightly unnerved that my other interviewee – Alex, who sings lead vocals – is still asleep in bed. “Do you want me to wake him up?” asks Ed, more as if he were asking me how many sugars I would like in my coffee rather than if he should rouse his superstar band mate from the depths of post performance slumber. He tells me, in an almost childlike fashion, that unfortunately he is not allowed to anyway (orders from management) and that the interview will continue Alex-less.

“I’m the guitarist Ed, not the bassist one” he exclaims, not to confuse ‘the Eds’ (there are two, Minton and Hetherton, brother of other band mate Dan Hetherton) “I’m 23, I was originally born in Japan, I came over to England when I was eight and I’ve been here since.” When asked if he plays any other instruments, other than guitar, he sheepishly replies “in the band I sing a bit, but that’s about it” and outside of the band? “I can play the piano and violin” he says, so matter of fact that you would think that mastering the art of playing such instruments is common practice. Having said that, in Elliot Minor it is. Between them they play nine different instruments including the cello, clarinet and double bass and that is before we even consider their hearty vocal talents. “We all did music at school, we all took to studying music as a major subject, so we all pretty much did the same thing” says Ed who went to independent school Uppingham in Rutland, England. With such prestigious schooling behind him and co-founder, Alex Davies, there is no wonder Elliot Minor are massive; Uppingham’s former residents are no less than Charlie Simpson (formerly of Busted, currently of hard rockers Fightstar) and Harry Judd of punk/pop sensations McFly to name a few. Ed fills us in saying “It’s where I met Alex. We started doing some acoustic stuff together before we formed the full band. We were called ‘The Academy’, but we didn’t really do much with that and then in our gap year we joined up with Dan, the drummer and then we were a three piece for a bit. As the year went on, Alex and Dan got in touch with their friends from school, who were Ali and Ed and then we formed the full Elliot Minor”.

In 2006 the fully formed band entered a Myspace competition to win a chance to support McFly on the Newcastle leg of one of their tours. They won. This instantaneously threw them into the media spot light and they quickly built up a massive fan base, particularly out of McFly fans, but as they signed to Warner Bros. Records (who they parted ways with this year to return to their aptly named indie label, Repossession Records) and went on to support pop/rock giants Simple Plan and and Fall Out Boy; six singles and two chart topping albums later, they are now sporting hardcore fans of their own; just as well because you dare not mention rumours of the feud between them and McFly, you might just get the death stare.

With the band being back ‘on the road’ in support of their sophomore album Solaris it is only right that we get to grips with what actually happens on tour with Elliot Minor. We have heard all the rumours about how younger rockers behave most unscrupulously whilst on tour, but to be perfectly honest, Elliot Minor seem pretty tame as Ed excitedly announces half way through our interview “Alex is awake now…he’s gone downstairs, he’s getting changed, he’s walking around butt naked” before a voice in the background shouts out “Edward is a d**do”. Ed quickly lowers his voice saying ” you didn’t hear that did you?”, my uproarious laughter gives it away. The hubbub dies down and we get back to talking about the tour. A popular part of the last Elliot Minor tour was when Alex played his violin live, Ed unfortunately denounces any rumours of this happening on the current tour saying “Well he smashed his violin up…a few years ago or something? Yeah, I think it was when we played the Astoria [in London], he decided to just throw it to the ground and it broke, so until he gets a new one I doubt he’ll be bringing that one out again”. Slightly disappointing, but I am sure there will be other great things on the new tour. What should we expect? “You should expect to see us playing about three quarters of our new album and then pretty much all the singles from out last album. It’s quite an exciting set. It’s got its ups and downs and it’s quite energetic really; I dunno, we’ll just play the songs and see how the kids react”. Fan’s favourite parts of the gigs seem to be when the guys go all sentimental and play some acoustic versions of some of their tracks, but Ed mentions that this wont be happening either. “We were gonna do a song called ‘All Along’ from our second album, but Ali couldn’t learn the part in time”, Ali interrupts saying “yeah I couldn’t be bothered” [there is laughter], “Yeah he couldn’t be bothered to play it” continues Ed, “Nah, I’m kidding, we were gonna do it, but we didn’t have time…we did ['Last Call To New York'] last tour actually, we were thinking of playing it on this tour, but our set is, I think, the length already, so it would be pushing it a little bit if we added another song, but if the demand’s there we might pull it out as an encore”. This pleases me as it is one of my favourite tracks, thus I go on to tell Ed how I will gather my trustee EM fans and campaign for them to play ‘Last Call To New York’; he laughs and enthusiastically says “yeah you should, then we’ll play it”.

Last year Elliot Minor appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Live lounge album and played a very well received acoustic version of Take That’s ‘Rule The World’, asked if they have any more covers in the pipeline, Ed replies “we just did a radio thing yesterday and we covered Jordin Sparks’ ‘Battle Fields’, that was pretty cool. I know Alex really wants to cover Black Eyed Peas, but it’s just not going to happen [laughter]. Can you imagine that? Alex is like “I’ll rap, I’ll rap” but nobody’s buying it, so nah, that’s not gonna happen” he says in between giggles. “Maybe we’ll put out a band version of Jordin sparks one day, that’d be quite cool”. I am sure the fans would love that, I know I would, speaking of the fans, in the short time that Elliot Minor have been in the spotlight, they have acquired an army of loyal fans that follow them around in adoration and apparently keep them comfy whilst on tour, Ed declares “the best thing a fan has ever done [pauses], you know what? The best thing from a fan, is when a fan gets us a present, like boxes of socks, they’re the most appreciated thing on tour because we obviously run out, then we have to start pulling things inside out [laughs], so that kind of thing is great. Fans also buy you tea and that kind of stuff which is also great [he becomes animated], actually the other day I had a girl customise a mug for me which was really nice. She did the Elliot Minor logo, she just customised it as my own which was great; it’s now on the bus and I drink my green tea out of it. She’d written ‘Ed Minton’s Green Tea Mug’ on it, in Japanese as well, so cool”. So what is the worst thing then? “The worst thing a fan has ever done? You know what? I don’t know, they actually don’t do anything that bad. I guess some things can get a little bit annoying, but that’s fine, it’s no problem”.

As was becoming the ever growing trend at that time, Elliot Minor started out on Myspace before they won the competition to be the support band of McFly and Ed says it was the key to their initial success, “Myspace was, initially, the real driving force behind building a fan base, but it’s definitely kind of ground to a halt now, because nothing happens on it, especially for us; I don’t know how it is for other bands, but for some reason it’s just dead, I think everyone’s bored of it. Facebook is as buzzing as ever, but it’s extremely difficult for bands because you can’t really upload music, can you? I dunno, I don’t really spend that much time online, but Dan, the drummer, is a big gimp, he spends most of his time online so he would know a lot better than I do. He’s quite into Twitter right now” (I get excited and tell Ed how much I love Twitter) “Ooh really? I have my own twitter too, but I struggle to use it” he says. I leap into groupie territory when I animatedly tell him that I’ll add him, “yeah?” he replies “please do”. Back to online communities and the success of the band, we get talking about the pros and cons of social networking sites and music. “It gives everyone a chance doesn’t it? So in that sense it makes it easier for bands to get their music out there, but because everyone’s got access to it now, in a sense, it’s harder to get your name out there; but, I guess if you’re a band and you just wanna get your music out then it’s very helpful, in that sense it’s amazing; but I do feel that it’s kind of going downhill now. Myspace is incredible for it, but since that’s dying down now, it’s starting to get harder again”.

There is a bit more noise now as Ed heads out onto the tour bus, the boys are playing Swansea’s Sin City tonight, so no doubt they need to go and prepare. As we come to a close we chat about memorable moments and Ed’s favourite Elliot Minor show. “The Astoria in London. There was this real buzz period where we had our first album out and our Japanese label was on board, it was just a really good time for us. There were like two thousand kids just going mental, it was unbelievable. It was also our first show where we had pyros [pyrotechnics] and all that stuff, so that was probably the highlight for me; but to be fair, every show is awesome, though I am looking forward to the one in Edinburgh” Queue me getting over excited. “I really am, Edinburgh’s always been a wicked place to play. We played the Liquid rooms before and Studio 24 is it? They’re always such a great crowd up there and also it’s just a beautiful city, I love being up there”. He goes on to tell me about his best live show outside of the band, a Green Day concert in Tokyo that he went to see with his best friend “it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in my life. That will definitely stay in my memory forever”; and for the rest of the Elliot Minor tour? “We’re touring up until the start of December and then we’ll get a bit of time off, I’m going back home to Japan. We’ll get back in the New Year and hopefully, I think this is the plan as it is now, we’ll have a single out early next year and then we’ll just carry on touring. Maybe another UK tour, but we also promised our European fans that we’d go out there and maybe head to Japan as well because they’re releasing an album in March”.

Huge gusts of wind blow down the phone and Ed is audibly cold, the tour bus should be leaving soon to head to the venue of another explosive Elliot Minor show, but in the mean time, at least he has his customised mug and Green Tea to warm his hands and cockles, for after all, this is one rock star that is far more ‘Home Sweet Home’ than ‘Anarchy In The UK’.
