I happened to come across this nice liitle piece of software when I was looking for a DVD burner ( a freeware to be specific ) that supports burning DVD images of  ‘.nrg’  format ( which is the properietry format of Nero ). But I came to know that only Nero could handle .nrg files [ and i wasn’t looking for Nero! ]  while all other burning softwares used ‘.ISO’ format which is the standard format for DVD or CD images. One of the search results came up with this software called ‘UltraISO’ which was capable of converting  any Disc image format to another one ( it supports  .BIN, .CUE, .NRG, .ISZ  ,.MDF, .MDS, .IMG and other formats too! ). It can also be used as a virtual drive (just like Daemon Tools or Alcohol ). It has got a nice and neat interface and is pretty easy to work with.

Other features include :
- create Disc images
-burn image files onto Discs
-act as a virtual CD/DVD drive
-image file compression/decompression
-create floppy disc images
-create bootable discs     ,etc.

The only hitch is that its not free.I got a trial version and that was enough for me as I dont plan to convert these image files every other day. Rather, in future, I would go for image files in .ISO format which is supported by all DVD burning softwares! But  for those of you who are really interested, it comes for a mere $ 29.95 

The Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Act, S. 1660, recently passed the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
The legislation, introduced in September by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Mike Crapo (R-ID), directs the Environmental Protection Agency to establish a national emission standard under the Toxic Substances Control Act.
Under the proposed legislation, particleboard, MDF and hardwood plywood made or sold in the U.S. – and products made from them – would have to meet the formaldehyde emission ceilings in California’s recently-adopted emissions standard.
The amended legislation calls for EPA to act by Jan. 1, 2012, with the regulation to go into effect 180 days after promulgation.
In addition to establishing the national standard, this legislation would:

• Direct EPA to establish third-party testing and certification requirements to ensure that products comply with the national standard
• Direct EPA to work with Customs and Border Protection and other relevant federal agencies to enforce the standards for both domestic and imported wood products
• Direct EPA to establish other necessary implementation and enforcement regulations

Not really sure what happened to the weekend – vanished in a puff of ethereal smoke (or was that just a cloud of MDF dust that got so dense it momentarily became self-aware?).  The workshop is covered in the stuff, despite 20 cubic metres/hr of air filtration, and the 2HP TruPro dusty.  Some of the tools are insufficiently (dust) guarded, particularly the router table, which, being under significant rework has lost connection to the standard collection system.  If all the MDF dust got wet, it’d probably papier mache together into to a mold that I could cast copies of Stu’s Shed from.

Come the end of the current project, there will have to be a major cleanup/dust-off out there, and a vow (which I typically can never stick to) of not starting any more projects until the proper systems are fully in place and working.

I was out there last last night (hope the neighbours are still talking with me!) fighting to get the kitchens close to completion.

Aaron from Torque Workcentres came for a visit yesterday morning (we started the day at 6:30am to get the maximum possible done), and we got my Torque Workcentre running like an impressively well oiled machine (or not, as the case may be – inside joke).  It is working exceedingly well – the main arm that supports the tool (router typically) now glides along the X axis with the lightest touch of a finger.  There are more adjustments for the machine than I was aware of – there has been a lot of thought put into the engineering, and it really makes a difference all the subtle tweaks that can be done.  I’ll document those in future articles.

I was going to have the MDF top flush with the cast iron router table, but late last night got sick of trying to get it all sorted, so decided instead to stick with how it was originally designed, and mounted the MDF directly to the workcentre.  I still maintained the cast iron router table at one end, and just accepted I’ve lost some working range.  It isn’t a huge amount, and it may not have any real impact on me anyway – time will tell.  I was using the router table, and the Torque Workcentre happily last night, so both router positions are well justified.  If you don’t have/need a cast iron router table, then cutting an opening for the router mounting plate at the right end of the table, directly into the MDF is a good solution.

I didn’t photograph it, but I set the pin routing guide into the table – this is a metal pin with a small diameter end (7mm) that engages into a template channel so the overhead router cuts identical items.  In this case, my “channel” was a single hole, and the router was offset to one side, resulting in probably the easiest circle I have ever cut or routed.  Ever!

In this case, I was only routing a partial depth pattern – a circle cut with a cove bit, repeated in 4 locations and with 2 different diameters to produce the stove ‘elements’

Kitchen Detail

I was quickly switching from tablesaw, bandsaw, disk sander, linisher, router table, torque workcentre, drill press and Domino, turning out component after component.  When a workshop is set up properly, it is amazing how easy and quickly tasks become.

Cut an opening for a sink? Done.  Duplicate the opening on the router table? Done.  Stack-cut a handle for the oven, then round the edges? Done.  Join it accurately and strongly to the project? Done. Elements cut, wheels made. Fun stuff.

Cutting Toy Wheels

Using the Carb-i-tool wheel cutter, scrap MDF was utilised to produce stacks of wheels.  Here the Lidwig Claw can be seen being used to good effect, holding the 4″ dust collection hose right at the point of shaving and dust creation.

So a profitable weekend – just don’t know where it went so fast. There is still a few small tasks to do to finish the cabinets off, then they can head out to their new homes for painting, and playing.

Materiais:

- 1 caixa de MDF

 Passo a passo:

- No interior da caixa e no interior da tampa, com um pincel macio, passe 2 demãos de tinta metálica ouro velho, intercalando a secagem.

- Com um pincel de cerdas macias, passe 2 demãos de tinta branca nas laterais externas da caixa, intercalando a secagem. Depois, aplique a cola para decoupage, sem excessos. Retire as 2 películas brancas do guardanapo e jogue fora. Cole a película decorada do guardanapo na caixa, pressionando levemente com as pontas dos dedos para retirar eventuais rugas. Espere secar e, com o auxílio da lixa, remova o excesso do guardanapo. Passe outra camada de cola sobre o guardanapo, usando um pincel macio.

- Pinte a parte externa da tampa e a base da caixa com duas demãos de tinta marrom, intercalando a secagem. Com pinceladas em todas as direções, espalhe a cola glitter sobre as áreas pintadas de marrom. Depois de seca, aplique duas demãos de hidrolaca brilhante, intercalando a secagem.

- Passe duas demãos de verniz acrílico brilhante com glitter nas laterais externas da caixa, intercalando a secagem. Passe uma demão de verniz acrílico brilhante.

Dica:

- Não é necessário passar verniz sobre a tinta metálica.

Y listo, luego desde consola en el directorio donde está la imagen

sudo mdf2iso archivoImagen.mdf nuevaImagen.iso

Y listo, la convertirá pero si llega a salir este mensaje: archivoImagen.mdf is already ISO9660 solo hay que cambiar la extensión mdf a iso y se puede acceder directamente sin nada mas. Aparentemente la gente de alcohol120% están siguiendo el estandar pero consevan su formato.

The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association board of directors recently approved measures to strengthen and clarify requirements for companies to attain certification under the association’s Environmental Stewardship Program. The changes are effective Jan. 1, 2010. 
Compliance with all applicable local, state and federal environmental regulations is a fundamental ESP requirement. To strengthen that requirement, ESP now requires participants to report any violation resulting in a fine exceeding $50,000 to KCMA within 60 days. Resolution of such a violation could result in termination of the participant from the program.
ESP now encourages increased use of low-formaldehyde emitting materials in the production of cabinetry. Points are awarded for participants who use at least 80 percent (formerly 75 percent) particleboard, medium-density fiberboard and hardwood plywood that comply with the emissions limits established by the California Air Resources Board. Third-party certification and labeling are required to demonstrate compliance.
To earn points under the Product Resource Management criteria, 80 percent of particleboard, MDF and hardwood plywood used in cabinets must contain 100 percent recycled or recovered fiber content.

Overview of changes to program:
