I remember getting a call from Rahul Jethi, a banker in Sydney, and a good friend and whose brother is in Indian army, early in the morning of 27th Nov 2008 [Sydney time which is 5.5 hours ahead of Indian time], about the terrorist attack in Mumbai. I switched the TV on and saw the reporting of the attack. It made me sad and angry at the same time. As it became clearer that LET was involved, I became more angry. I was helpless as I could not do much to help the people in Mumbai.

I watched the attack unfold and kept myself updated through the days. I kept reading the statements from leaders from all over the world. Thankfully, Kasab [the lone terrorist survivor] was arrested. I was angry that pakistan kept denying the nationalities of the terrorists even when the evidence was overwhelming. That has become the standard operating procedure for Pakistan. Shameful and outrageous!!

By now, we have details of Kasab’s interrogation/trial, and have seen the reports in various channels including ABC Australia, CNN and BBC.  Only recently, Farid Zakaria covered it in CNN GPS programme. A great deal is known by now. It is all clear that 10 terrorists came from Pakistan and LET was the sponsoring terrorist organisation. These terrorists were trained in Pakistan. The whole world is asking Pakistan to bring the perpetrators [supporters/sponsors] of the Mumbai terrorist attack to justice.

Lot of things have changed since 26th Nov, 2008. I hope, things would keep moving in the right direction to prevent further terrorist attacks in India. The whole world has to work against the menace of terrorism. Either Pakistan changes its ways itself or the world forces it to change. There is no alternative option.

So many people lost their lives for no reason. This has to end.

As I see it, following come to my mind;

1. India will continue to have attacks of this nature because some elements in Pakistan are hostile to India and have an agenda to harm India. Some inside ISI and Pakistan army are madly fundamentalists and are pathologically inimical towards India.

2. India is a vast country with long borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, from where these terrorists do cross into India and will keep crossing in future too. We have to do every thing to reduce if not prevent it. India must identify illegal Bangladeshi stayers in India and expel them without much delay. Throw them in the ocean if we have to but they can’t be allowed to stay in India. No vote bank politics please!

3. The whole world has to force Pakistan to dismantle the terrorist organisations and their infrastructure to prevent attacks from Pakistan. USA and Europe are crucial in this. India must keep working with the world powers to force Pakistan to change its ways. India needs to have the right people in the ministry of external affairs to be able to have a desired effect in this matter. Shashi Tharoor is a competent minister with the contacts and experience in these matters and may be, he should be made the cabinet minister.

4. India has to improve the intelligence gathering capability significantly.

5. India has to improve the command structure to face such attacks effectively and efficiently. There was a significant delay in getting NSG commandos to Mumbai during the attack. They had to wait for hours before a plane could be arranged to fly them to Mumbai. That is outrageous. India needs to have a proactive thinking rather than a reactive one. Even the chief minister Mr Deshmukh took more than 4 hours to return to Mumbai.

6. Indian media must be forced to follow certain rules during such attacks. Media was showing the live coverage of the attack which was used by the terrorists’ minders/handlers in Pakistan to guide the terrorists. It was not helpful. I dare say, it led to many more deaths than it would have been otherwise. Indian media needs to be told that certain things are not on. Their TRP battle is not above human lives and national interests.

7.1. India has to become ruthless in investigating and prosecuting those who are involved in terrorism and those who are supporting such elements. There should be a speedy trial. Once convicted, these terrorists should be punished severely without any delay. It is not a good idea to keep convicted criminals like Afzal Guru to stay in the jail because his mercy petition is pending with the president for this unusually long period.  Why is his mercy petition pending with Indian president for years? This is outrageous! Those dreaded terrorists who were released during the Indian Airlines plane hijack, were also in the Indian prison for years without a trial. India has done a good job by establishing a national investigation agency [NIA]. NIA officials should be given freedom to work independently without any political pressure.

7.2. India must not allow any segment of its society to feel alienated. All opportunities/benefits must be truly available to every Indian irrespective of their region, religion or caste. Nation building must be taken up with redoubled vigour.

8.1. India must have a campaign to do public education to make people aware re how to keep the eyes/ears open to anything unusual and what to do when a terrorist attack is happening. We saw a big crowd of onlookers during NSG [National Security Guards] counter-attack which is not smart. Where was the crowd control?

8.2. The civil police must be trained properly. It is not a good idea for top police officials to be in one single car which was not bullet proof. This was the case even when they had access to the bullet proof vehicles. This led to costly loss of lives of the leaders of police force. We hear that Mr Karkare and others did not receive immediate help after being wounded. One wonders whether some of these great policemen would not have died if we had an efficient medical, police and rescue systems.

8.3. India and Indian public needs to do every thing to look after the near/dear ones/dependents of the brave security men/women who give their lives to protect us and the country. Gov authorities need to do many things to let people know that India has utmost respects and gratitude for such brave men/women.

9. Indian leaders were issuing the statements after statements but not much came out of that. We should learn to show results rather than just talks.

10.1. India needs to improve its military capabilities in such a way that Pakistan or its supporters do not dare look towards India. We need to revamp the capabilities of our air force, navy and artillery.

10.2.While working on the military capabilities, India needs to work with redoubled vigour to settle the outstanding issues with its neighbours.

MèA, contrazione di “Il nostro mondo è adesso” è una mostra di arte contemporanea diffusa sul territorio umbro. MèA è composta da dodici mostre personali di altrettanti artisti, uno per ciascuno dei musei aderenti al circuito “Terre & Musei dell’Umbria”. La compagine degli artisti, oltre da una particolare “derivazione” dalla cultura umbra (per nascita, residenza, formazione, ecc.), è accomunata da attività e riconoscimenti che travalicano i limiti regionali. MèA, così, si propone di verificare a 360° la vitalità creativa umbra. A cura di Maurizio Coccia, Matilde Martinetti, Mara Predicatori. Pensava eu no Sábado que com a mudança da hora, o Domingo iria ser mais proveitoso para dar uma voltas de bicicleta. No entanto, após sair de casa apanhei uma bela chuvada mas mesmo assim continuei e parece que valeu mesmo a pena pelas fotografias que tirei. O conta quilómetros da bicla passou hoje pelos 3000 Km..nada mau .

Este trilho pedestre (aplica-se mesmo o nome pois não consegui lá subir de bicicleta) será o meu próximo desafio. Com uma distância de 5,5 KM e um declive muito interessante, o trilho dos moinhos foi inaugurado dia 19 de Setembro em Eiriz, Parada de Ester. Saber mais aqui

Ideea suna cam asa: oricine detine un blog si o camera personala, se poate inscrie. Fiecare o sa faca 3 poze in camera lui. Nu conteaza cat de frumoasa sau urata este, ci originalitatea. Felul in care este aranjata mobila, posterele pe perete si mai stiu eu ce.

Cum fac sa ma inscriu?
Deci, cum spuneam mai devreme. Tot ce trebuie sa faceti, este sa trimiteti 3 poze cu camera voastra pe email la mad.skillz08@yahoo.com, sau mi le trimiteti direct pe mess. Apoi o sa scrii un articol pe blogul tau cum ca participi la acest concurs, si o sa pui un link catre concurs. Terrence Dickson, of Bristol , Pennsylvania , who was leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of the garage. Unfortunately for Dickson, the automatic garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not get the garage door to open. Worse, he couldn’t re-enter the house because the door connecting the garage to the house locked when Dickson pulled it shut.
Forced to sit for EIGHT days and survive on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog food, he sued the homeowner’s insurance company claiming undue mental Anguish. Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish.

Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania – a jury ordered a Philadelphia restaurant to pay her $113,500 after she slipped on a spilled soft drink and broke her tail bone. The reason the soft drink was on the floor: Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.

Mrs. Merv Grazinski, of Oklahoma City, had just purchased a new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, having driven on to the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver’s seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner’s manual that she couldn’t actually leave the driver’s seat while the cruise control was set. The Oklahoma jury awarded her $1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home.

Mrs.Amooma, of Cochin City, had just purchased a Sony W595 Music Edition Mobile phone on march 2009 .When amooma was taking her phone off her purse, it fell into her car seat. SO..whats the big deal???…u might ask. The interesting part here is that ,her purse was on the balcony of her office and  her car was in the  parking lot, a solid 15 floors below!! It is not yet clear what broke the windshield of her car – the falling phone or her “OPERAIC” cry of horror. The former was doing over 100km/hr and the later definitely had the reputation.

Realising the ‘gravity’ of the situation, amooma rushed to the elevator. On her way out she dint forget to step on the Mac Book ,which had been kept open in the balcony to dry off the coffee she had spilled over it the other day. The Mac book acquired a golden color from the coffee , and looked as if a Kashmiri was getting a tan. Beautiful!  Except now, the Mac gave out a qauck and graced the ground as a fallen warrior.

Amooma was quick for her age. She reached her car in a flash . She suddenly stopped a few feet from the car. Tears welled up as she slowly walked upto her car. Her arms were hanging by her side, lifeless. She looked so weak as she cradled her phone in her petite wrinkled hands. The phones screen lit up one last time, as if it recognised the touch ,but suddenly went blank realising it was amooma again.It had had enough. Enough is enough.

Like a hero in bollywood cinema, resurrecting to avenge his friend’s death, amooma rose from the sadness. Boy oh boy….wasn’t that an “onnonnara rising?“.She dint waste any time. The smell of petitions and court house wasn’t more evident.

Petitions and law suits were flying every where, like the invitaion letters that came to Harry Potter’s house inviting him to Hogwarts.

She filed a case against the Sony phone company for not informing her that the phone might break when dropped from a height.
She sued the construction company for building a 15th floor.
She filed petition against the purse company for not having a safety system (?) that would catch falling off items. She completed the petition stating women should unite to fight this negligence.

The paper work of amooma’s case was a walk in the park. A park full of angry porcupines. She filed so many suits that her lawyer found an easy solution ,or rather the only solution,of filing her petition. He submitted the entire law book as her petition, after removing a few irrelevant pages. The lawyer had dealt with people of all walks of life. But this time he has bitten more than what he can swallow.

To every one’s amazement, the court granted her “Saramilla…. Potte….” verdict. And some chakka kurus. While reading the verdict, the judge was almost in tears. He was holding onto consciousness, barely.

During that time,Ms Amooma shouted out loud,”I forgot One more person to sue”…..The name was Isaac Newton…for had he not found out gravity she could have saved her phone. That was the breaking point of the judge and her lawyer. The lawyer fled the scene tearing away his black coat and laughing while jumping his way out. He was later subdued by the elephant squad using 4 rounds of heavy duty tranquilizer shots. He was beating his head on a milestone when he was tranquilized. It was later reported that Twenty four Milestones was destroyed by the lawyer’s head banging spree. The judge was missing and the search team found him ,3 days later, hiding in the courtroom closet, afraid and totally lost.

The lawyer was charged with multiple counts of violence and destruction of public property. He was granted pardon considering what he had been through and was sent to Corrective Institute for Highly Unstable Recent Schizophrenics.

The judge was taken to Kerala, for ayurvedic treatment. Sri. Mahabhushan Vaidyar, tried “nellika thalam” to cool the poor judge’s head. Realizing the effect is too meager, the Vaidyar shifted the judge to an ice plant.

In light of the issues that has come up, the construction company stopped building 15′th floors. The phone company made strict rules that the customer should submit a medical certificate from the department of mental health assuring a sound state of mind. The Purse company made so such improvement in the failsafe features of the purse that these technology is now used by NASA in space programs.Newton was in-famed for his discovery and all apple trees were cut down to make sure no more newtons are born again.

In August, Mr.Mike Gare was awarded the medal of courage for taking a 5 minute interview with amooma( and surviving it!). This is what amooma had to say when Mike asked her about the incident.
“Is this fair?  A new phone should at-least have to work for 6 months without any glitch. But when a phone shows a major defect within 3 weeks, then the company should be held responsible. As a matter of fact, it is an act of courtesy rather than responsibility, replacing a defective product.”

Nokia have stopped its sales when they heard that amooma is planning to buy a new Nokia Phone. Lucky Bast….s.

Prof Sujit Pandit has sent me an email, suggesting that Indians living overseas should demand a rule change in India. This is about the OCI cards. An OCI card holder should not need to have a separate Visa for India.

Here is his email. The word USA should be substituted with Australia, NZ, UK or relevant countries.

Let us send this demand to our High Commissions, Consulates, Minister Mr SM Krishna [MEA], Minister Mr Shashi Tharoor [MEA] and Minister Mr Vayalar Ravi [NRI affairs].

Our goal is to make travel to India less stressful and a matter of joy. The current OCI (Overseas Citizen of India)/PIO (Person of Indian Origin)  rules are irrational and confusing that often cause hardship to the travelers.

The bureaucrats and politicians do not like to change any rules unless there is overwhelming pressure from the public.  So, if you would like to change the ambiguous OCI/PIO rules please write to the Indian ambassador to the USA, the Consular General of India, the Prime Minister of India, the Minister of External affairs, The Home Minister and other civil servants and politicians in India.   You may also write to the various Indian media and the Indian action, social and political groups.  Please ask your friends to do the same.
If you want to write only a short paragraph then write the following or something like this:

‘When an individual has a US Passport and an OCI card, production of a Visa should not be insisted upon, because the evidence of a valid visa is implicit in the OCI card, which may be deemed to be a certification higher than the Visa itself.’

Mea Shearim, a well known Haredi neighborhood in Jerusalem, follows a strict code of Halacha, Jewish Law. Because of this, the neighborhood puts this observance on residents as well as visitors. But with a growing number of incidents where the religious police there has started, out of all things, putting syrup on the park benches in the neighborhood because they believe it will prevent immodest activity between opposite sexes. This is done primarily in a area frequent with Haredi youth before Shabbat settles in. But many have felt that this won’t prevent anything and will just make a mess. Including how other citizens not knowing of this may sit and just have sticky pants and really it will just make the activity move underground or even make teens rebel and eventually just leave the neighborhood. The thought of syrup on benches may seen comical but if this processes though your mind after a while, you’ll start to feel for the teen age residents who really won’t have time to just hang out with friends and peers of their own age. With the religious police, use of sneaky techniques and such, many have compared this to mainly a more settled version of Sharia in Iran and other countries. The restrictions of clothing, guests of the neighborhood as well as those who interact in the neighborhood. Tell us your thoughts!

SNS Marketing is pleased to announce it was the winning agency in the RFP for the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA). SNS beat out several other agencies to win the state contract worth $3 million. The contract extends through June 30, 2010. With a goal of promoting the state’s energy conservation efforts, SNS will provide creative services, strategic and media planning, as well grassroots marketing for this new client.
