Prévu pour novembre, Médion s’affirme grâce à ce nouveau modèle The Touch dans les ordinateurs haut de gamme et démontre ainsi son envie d’avancer et de se distinguer. Cependant, reste à savoir la cible qui sera touchée par ce modèle, vu le prix tout le monde ne pourra pas se l’offrir. Médion décide de lancer se nouvel engin à mon avis en ne s’attendant pas à un grand volume des vente mais plutôt pour se mettre en valeur et montrer que celle-ci est capable comme d’autres de “créer”. Cependant, cette sortie est très étonnante de la part de Médion puisque c’est une marque qui ne fait pas trop parler d’elle, mais là c’est réussi.

i’m finally free of all exams and just finished work today… don’t have to go to work til monday… yeah!!! long weekend!!! only work mon arvos, tues and weds now… just spent $1300 today on a new all-in-one pc from aldi… which could now double up as my tv now… a bigger tv in my room… and can record as well… the only prob at the moment is that its on windows 7… so not used to it…kinda weird…but love the fact that the desktop background could change every few mins…

oh… forgot to mention the fact that its touch screen as well…

Bei meinen Ortserkundungen gibt es in einer fremden Stadt immer einiges zu sehen und zu erfahren. Hier in Essen, so scheint es mir, hängen die Leute besonders an einmal käuflich erworbenen Dingen. Gut, ich kann verstehen, dass nicht jeder sich einfach von gewissen Dingen trennt. Aber hier wurde es wirklich al Zeit, für ein neues Gerät zur elektronischen Datenverarbeitung. Wirklich!

A new toy arrived today – the VisTablet, which is just a rebadged Aiptek 600U (model number WCK-C121). They sell as Aiptek or Waltop or Medion or any one of a few other names for about €65 on ebay.ie at the moment, so I thought what the heck, I do a fair bit of stuff in Gimp so maybe it’s worth a look. A few clicks and a week or so later and it arrives. Cue tearing open the box and unwrapping!

Plugging it into the laptop (Thinkpad R61 running Debian Squeeze amd64) got an instant result in that it found the device and allowed cursor movement… but no actual buttons or pressure sensor stuff, so it couldn’t work as a tablet. So off to google we go and after trying some frustrating messing about with udev rules (to create /dev/apitektablet - which isn’t necessary it turns out) and hal fdi files (to set up X.org options, which are needed) and I’d advanced in a posterior direction.

By now we were through the phase where plugging in the device crashed X and had reached the phase where plugging the device out crashed X. At this point, I found that the problem lay in the wacom drivers. See, just because it’s aiptek hardware doesn’t mean the aiptek drivers actually work – in this case, the wacom driver works much better.

But, just to be annoying, the new version of the wacom driver doesn’t work because it picks up that it’s not a wacom device and commits seppku to avoid being of any use. Note to the coder who thought that was a good idea – go choke on a hairball please.

Solution? Go to linuxwacom and download the latest driver, then untar the tarball, go into linuxwacom-0.8.4-2/src/xdrv and edit wcmUSB.c. You’re looking for this line (it’s line 530 in version 0.8.4.2):

Now apt-get install xorg-dev and whatever other packages you need like build-essential and call configure and make and then sudo make install.

You now have a working wacom driver and if you copy the wacom.fdi file into /etc/hal/fdi/policy/ (it’s /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-linuxwacom.fdi on Debian) and add in the following bit:

into the <device> section of the xml file (you probably don’t need the eraser and cursor lines, but what the heck, they don’t harm anything and I was too tired of restarting X at this point to check). You should now be almost done – restart hal, restart x.org, and log back in and then plug in the tablet (check dmesg and /var/log/X.0.log so you’re sure it worked) and then fire up Gimp, go to Edit->Preferences->Input Devices->Configure Extended Input Devices and make sure the tablet is listed there and that it’s not set to disabled, then go to Edit->Preferences->Input Controllers and make sure that Linux Input is in the list of active controllers and is set to look at the tablet, and it should work.

Mind you… if this is what it takes to make cheap hardware work on linux, Linux Hater has a very good point.

Da ich vom 9.11 – 23.12 ein Praktikum in Düsseldorf mache, kaufte ich mir den ALDI Surf-Stick. Um mit Familie und Freunden Kontakt zu halten ist das Internet eben die erste Wahl: MSN / ICQ und natürlich Skype.
Damit ich den Stick schon mal testen kann, habe ich ihn mir am 1.10 gekauft und jetzt ein Wochenende lang getestet.

Aufladen kann man sein Guthaben über eine Prepaid Karte, wie bei einem Handy auch. Die gibt es in jeder ALDI Filiale. Man muss also KEINEN Vertrag eingehen.

Mindestanforderungen:
- 500 Mhz
- 128 Mb Arbeitsspeicher
- 50 Mb freier Festplattenspeicher
- Bildschirmauflösung: 800×600 (es geht aber auch mit den 800×480 vom EeePc 4G)
- Betriebssystem: Win2000, XP, Vista

Preis:

Einrichtung:
Zuerst muss man die SIM Karte freischalten. Das geht entweder über Fax, Post oder Online. Die Aktivierung der SIM-Karte dauert ca. 6 Stunden. Die Software für den Stick ist direkt auf dem Stick installiert. Man muss ihn nur mit dem PC verbinden, der Rest erfolgt allein. Unter XP musste ich den Rechner noch einmal danach Neutarten, bei Vista war es nicht notwendig. Danach öffnet sich der Verbindungsassistent, man gibt seinen PIN ein und 20 sec. später ist man online.

Netzabdeckung:
Getestet habe ich den Stick einmal im Auto bei einer Strecke von 300km mit dem EeePc 4G (600 Mhz, 512Mb, XP). Einmal hat er zwischendurch das Netz verloren, ansonsten gab es keine Probleme.

Geschwindigkeit:
Übertragen wird mit 3,6 Mbits/s. Hier möchte ich jedoch unterscheiden. Unterwegs ist es kein Problem zu chatten, doch der EeePc hatte Probleme beim Öffnen von Websites. Es dauerte sehr lange. In der Stadt ging es sofort. Es hängt eben von der Signalstärke ab.
Außerdem habe ich den Stick auch mit meinem Laptop (2,4 Ghz, 3Gb Arbeitsspeicher, Vista) getestet diesmal nicht unterwegs. Damit war es auch kein Problem World of Warcraft zu spielen. Das Spiel lief angenehm flüssig und ich stellte keinen Unterschied zu unserem Anschluss zu Hause fest.

Fazit:

+ Einfache Installation
+ günstige Tarife
+ keine Vertragsanbindung
+ sehr stabile Verbindung
+ gute Geschwindingkeit

- der Stick verschwindet nicht komplett im USB Port, was aussieht, als würde er rausrutschen (er tut es aber nicht). Mich hat es ein wenig gestört, dass er während der Autofahrt darin gewackelt hat. Im Auto habe ich ihn allerdings nur im EeePc getestet. Es wäre auch möglich, dass es bei anderen Laptops nicht so ist.

Ab sofort ist die neue Medion Life S47000 Videokamera auf dem deutschen Markt erhältlich. Letzte Woche hatte ich über die Videoaufnahmemöglichkeiten des neuen iPod nano geschrieben – und schon ist das nächste Aufnahmewunder im Kleinformat erhältlich.

Obwohl man bekanntlich Äpfel nicht mit Birnen vergleichen kann, bin ich versucht, den iPod mit der Medion Life S47000 Videokamera zu vergleichen. Zwei miniformatige Aufnahmegeräte, die Musik abspielen und Videos  im H.264-Format aufnehmen. Leider sind das auch die einzigen Gemeinsamkeiten, die beide Geräte haben.

Die Medion Life S47000 Videokamera ist nämlich spritzwassergeschützt, verfügt über einen CMOS-Sensor und sowohl über einen HDMI-, analog Video- und einen USB-Ausgang/Anschluss. Ohne Akku wiegt das Gerät bereits 85 Gramm (im Vergleich zu den 36,4 Gramm des iPod nano), der interne Speicher beträgt gerade einmal 128 MB – ist allerdings über eine nicht mitgelieferte SD-Karte erweiterbar. Dafür beträgt die Videoauflösung 1280 x 720 Pixel / 720p, was wiederum ein Pluspunkt ist.   

Mein Fazit: Eine spritzwassergeschützte Minikamera ist ein interessanter Ansatz, doch auch hier stellt sich mir die Frage, warum man nicht einfach ein neues Handy oder einen hochwertigen Camcorder kaufen sollte. Handys sind selten spritzwassergeschützt, das gebe ich zu – doch wer nimmt wirklich Videos in einem kleinen Format UND in nasser Umgebung auf?

Medion has just unveiled its latest all-in-one PC, the X9613. This all-in-one PC is rocking: a 24-inch multi-touchscreen display, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz CPU, and Nvidia GeForce GT240M graphics. Below the display, you will see a bunch of media controls, a miniature SlideShow screen, and a physical volume knob. Un ordenador `todo en uno´ que incluye sintonizador y grabador de televisión digital, reproductor de Blu-ray, pantalla multitáctil y un sistema de control por voz diseñado por MEDION, que hace de este equipo uno de los más completos e innovadores del mercado.
El modelo X9613, rebautizado como The Touch, “tiene absolutamente de todo”, ha explicado el Director Financiero de MEDION, durante la presentación europea del producto, celebrada en Frankfurt (Alemania) la noche del miércoles.
El piloto de Fórmula 1, Adrian Sutil, ha sido el encargado de apadrinar este producto al que se ha referido como “mi nuevo juguete”.Ideado como un centro de entretenimiento digital para el salón, una de las características más relevantes del diseño de The Touch es su barra multimedia, que permite acceder a toda la información del ordenador “con la punta de los dedos”.
Y es que, además de su pantalla multitáctil de 24 pulgadas, este equipo incluye un pequeño monitor situado en la parte central de esta barra que permite consultar diferentes aplicaciones como el tiempo, las suscripciones de noticias o las redes sociales sin necesidad de acceder a la pantalla principal. Wie bereits in meinem Hauptartikel zum Workaround für SAA7134 unter Windows 7 mit dem Windows Media Center beschrieben habe traten Bild- und Tonruckler auf.

Ich hab ein wenig hin und her gestestet und festgestellt, dass die Ruckler durch

1. eine hohe CPU-Auslastung zustande kommen können (was für ein Wunder) oder
2. durch fehlende Daten im „Live TV Buffer“.

Ihr könnt a) umgehen, indem ihr einfach ein paar Programme schließt, die viel CPU-Leistung fressen (Internet Browser mit viel Flash-Inhalten oder JavaScript), oder eine bessere CPU kaufen. b) kann man ein wenig umgehen, indem man circa 10 Sekunden auf Pause drückt und den Buffer etwas füllt.

Ich wende bei mir die Lösung mit dem TV Buffer an und habe seit dem keine starken Ruckler mehr. Je nach Sender treten aber immer noch kurze, unregelmäßige Ruckler auf. Vielleicht gibt es ja irgendwann mal einen schönen Patch für dieses Problem.

Nachdem ich Heute auf Windows 7 umgestiegen war ich sehr zufrieden. Alles lief wunderbar, bis ich meine TV Karte installieren wollte. Eine Medion MD 5044 (SAA7134 Chip von Phillips). Windows 7 erkannte beim ersten Updaten gleich einen Treiber für die Karte „Philips Semiconductors – Streaming Media and Broadcast – SAA7134 TV Card“. „Schön“ dachte ich, doch daran war nichts schön! Windows Media Center erkennt zwar eine TV-Karte aber keine Kanäle. Eine Lösung für das Problem (was meine ich schon unter XP/Vista bestand) habe ich nirgends gefunden, also musste ich mir selber was aus den Fingern saugen.

Was ist zu tun?

Ich versuche so gut wie möglich zu beschreiben, was ich machen müsst.

1. Systemsteuerung -> Hardware Manager -> Ton, Video und Game conroller
   
2. SAA7134 anwählen -> Rechtsklick -> Treiber aktuallisieren -> Treiber aus Liste auswählen -> „von Diskette“ (oder so) auswählen.
   
3. Wenn ihr die Treiber CD habt wechselt dor hin, sonst ladet euch den Treiber HIER runter. Das Verzeichnis sollte dann so aussehen:
   
4. Dort wählt ihr den Treiber „TVStation_SAA7134_MK3“ aus
   
5. Nach der installation sollte Windows eine weiter Hardware erkennen. Lasst Windows in dem selben Verzeichnis wie eben suchen.
6. Euer Ergebnis sollte dann so aussehen:
   

Und dann nur noch ins Media Center und Konfigurieren.

Bei beiden Treiber habe ich das Problem, dass Bild und Ton öfter mal ruckeln oder stehn bleiben. Allerdings nicht immer. Ich versuche auch dieses Problem zu lösen.

Uno de los trabajos pendientes que tenía para estos dias semivacacionales, era reinstalar Windows XP en el netbook porque a lo tonto a lo tonto, se le van instalando aplicaciones y llega un punto en el que va a pedales.
Una vez salvados los pocos datos que tenía y con tiempo de por medio, decidí embarcarme en una cruzada personal para ver si era capaz, instalar Mac OS X 10.5.4 en el aparatejo.
Siguiendo las detalladas instrucciones de un manual que encontré en la red, conseguí instalarlo e incluso solventar un problema que me dió el touchpad cuando actualicé a la versión 10.5.7.
Pero al ser un sistema operativo algo complejo para alguien con pocos conocimientos y que está acostumbrado al manejo de XP, decidí no meterme en jardines porque ví que esto iba a darme más problemas que alegrías.
Asique cuando me disponía a instalar XP, caí en que hace unos días había salido la nueva versión del Ubuntu Ultimate edition, asique me puse a mirar al infinito y pensé ¿y si…?
Y sin dudarlo mucho, me he puesto a ello.

Una vez instalado, lo primero que he hecho ha sido configurar la red WIFI e instalar el soporte de idiomas.

Luego, a cambiarle un poco el aspecto, voy a XPeizarlo lo más posible. Dentro de los themes he seleccionado notXP.

De fondo de escritorio, el más apropiado, me he bajado el Bliss de XP. Y después, a actualizar el sistema.

Una vez actualizado y reiniciado, he cambiado el gestor de conexiones de red, he instalado wiCD. He configurado la nueva conexión y listo.
Tampoco es tan diferente de Windows XP ¿no? en apariencia, claro, porque entre uno y otro no hay color.
