A car rescue demonstration from the 2010 Rescue 3 Europe Conference in Teeside

In 2010 Cinnamon active provided event management services for the inaugural Rescue 3 Europe conference which took place at Teesside, Tyne and Wear.

The 2010 event was a success which exceeded expectations of both Rescue 3 Europe and the delegates.

The event for the specialist water, rope and boat rescue market combined practical demonstrations, keynote speakers and an exhibition area of manufacturers and retailers of rescue equipment and clothing. The 2 day event allowed the delegates significant time to network with speakers, exhibitors and more importantly each other.

The second Rescue 3 Europe Technical Rescue Conference is to take place in Cardiff 16, 17, 18th April 2013 and Cinnamon active are delighted to again be providing the organisation, administration and event management.

The 2013 conference will International speakers and delegates descend upon Cardiff. The event will consist of practical demonstrations, instructor training at Cardiff International White Water Centre. The full day conference with keynote speakers from Australia, USA and Europe will take place at the Cardiff Millennium Stadium. Leading equipment manufacturers and retailers will also be exhibiting on the 17th on the 6th floor concourse.

Cinnamon active are responsible for the management, logistics, administration and promotion of the event. We are also working with Visit Wales and Cardiff and Co to investigate media opportunities for this leading industry event.

The Rescue 3 Europe Technical Rescue Conference is an example of how Cinnamon active work hand in glove with our client and partners to provide a seamless service. Understanding our clients needs and requirements through discussion and research of the industry sector (which included visiting an industry trade show) to give us a comprehensive knowledge base of their business, which allows us to maximise their development opportunities within the event.

Rescue 3 Europe

A glorious 3 days meandering around Barcelona historical, cultural and sporting highlights. Situated on the Mediterranean coast Barcelona has a wonderful temperate climate at this time of year, bright blue skies, warm days and cool evenings (it was a gorgeous 23 degrees 7th Jan).

Our hotel was the Duquesa de Cardona a very understated 4 star hotel opposite the Marina, close to the Gothic Quarter and Metro. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and well appointed, the beds super comfortable. The buffet breakfast was appetising and even had cake… Cake for breakfast!

I don’t go in for rushing around cities ticking off landmarks, I prefer to absorb the atmosphere and take my time to enjoy the places (have a little drink) explore at a more sedate pace, perhaps this may be an age thing too.

Even though I have been to Barcelona twice before ( I don’t count my visit 32 years ago as I only remember through photos!!) I still hadn’t ventured into Gaudis Sagrada Familia, started in 1882 and not yet completed, apparently there’s no rush. I spent a pleasant morning taking the very informative self guided tour around the impressive building even visiting the four towers, which I add are not something you should do if you suffer from claustrophobia as the return descent is a steep narrow staircase.

Being a sports fan I also visited the other citadel of worship in the city – Camp Nou home of FC Barcelona. The museum was superb with interactive wall screens, trophy rooms, three Messi Balloon D’Or awards, soon to be joined by a forth. I was fascinated to learn that FC Barcelona had been founded by an Englishmen John Gamper (renamed Joan by the locals) in 1899 and how the club established itself to become the Worlds greatest football team. The stadium open on three sides reaches to the football Gods, a genuine amphitheatre of the beautiful game.

I returned to Camp Nou the following evening along with 90,000 supporters to see the great team completely over run the opposition with their trademark brand of exceptional pass and move football. 4-0 up at half time, 2 second half disallowed goals and a thundering Messi free kick which cannoned off the bar. It wasn’t a football match. It was pure entertainment on and off the pitch.

Barcelona being a coastal city provides a wonderful selection of seafood options including my favourite Paella dish. The seafood restaurants around the beach area offer wonderful and reasonably priced options. There is a very good tapas restaurant in the hills above Barcelona called Con Travi Nou which is well worth the drive. Try and reserve a table on the veranda.

Entertainment and activity options are extensive in and around Barcelona with sailing, Watersports, city tours on foot, bus and bike! White water rafting, canyoning, cable car rides and flamenco evenings. I also of course have access to VIP tickets to FC Barcelona games with hospitality, if this is appealing!

Where is Ruthin Castle? Google it and you will find Ruthin is a welsh market town on the borders with England just south of Chester. Ruthin Castle sits in 6 acres of beautiful North Wales countryside, a stones throw from the town square.

Google obviously Googled it and decided to organise their team building activity at Ruthin Castle which dates back to the 12th Century. The venue has a colourful, historical, celebrity past and has entertained guests from as far back as King Arthur to King Edward I, Owain Glyndwr the great Welsh hero to HRH Prince Charles who stayed on his way to his investiture as Prince of Wales.

The client wanted a fun team building event for a group of 50 people to engage them to work together and encourage communication. We have worked with Ruthin Castle on many previous occasions, so when we received the call we immediately knew the Medieval Mayhem was a fantastic themed fit, a perfect event within the castle walls.

The Adventure North Wales activity programme and Ty Sinamon our large self catering property are an integral element of the business.

I am unsure how many miles I have travelled between London and Bala, Abersoch and Llangollen but it doesn’t come close to the distance the spawning salmon swim from their feeding grounds to return home. A round trip of 25,000 miles.

The salmon close down the national white water rafting centre for 6 weeks between mid October and start of December every year to allow the fish an uninterrupted return to the spawning grounds just below the dam which feeds the River Tryweryn.

The next time you are looking for some fresh water adventure then white water rafting in Bala is highly recommended as endorsed by the salmon.

The salmon didn’t stay at Ty Sinamon but we can highly recommend it!!

The sight of 19 CV’s with roofs off in convoy caused a stir and we found ourselves a major attraction whereever we went. At Place de la Concorde the public gathered aound the cars for pictures. Here we were sightseeing only be be a sight to be seen with!!

Our driver guides were very informative and helpful, even making impromptu stops for people to purchase their own berets and take pictures with locals. The 2 hour tour meandered around Notre Dame, Le Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and Place de la Concorde where groups pictures were taken.

At the end of the tour the 2CVS dropped us at a beautiful Parisian restaurants (pre booked) in the backstreets in the Sorbonne area. We were welcomed with canapes and Champagne on arrival before sitting down to a wonderful 4 course meal with Rose wine.

Lunch was taken in true French style, 3 hours with gesticulation and noisy conversation. Lunch was rounded off with numerous presentations. We then had a period of free time, but the team just upped sticks from the restaurant to another bar, where we sat down and continued the banter.

On our way to the Metro a couple of the group decided to introduce themselves to the local Break Dancer Street performers and with great panache and rhythm a sight to behold. Arriving back at Gard du Nord everyone was accounted for the return journey.
Time to sit back… Not on your Nelly – to the buffet car to recount the days experiences and a glass of Vin Blanc or two!!

It can be daunting arranging the company Christmas Party, after all everyone is looking forward to it, nice meal, great atmosphere and enjoyable entertainment and music to make the evening to go with a swing… No pressure then!

The Giant inflatable volleyball court, human table football, archery, laser clay shooting, dummy high jump, mini bike race, ski slalom, bobsleigh along with our very own games compere – we were ready to rock the house.

The competition was fierce with teams competing across all of the events, with a Joker to play on their most favoured event. At the midway stage their was little between the eight teams. The games went to the Grande Finale Tug of War as the Blue and Pink teams battled it going for Gold.

The day was a huge success for the 120 participants, with plenty of team action, fun competitive edge and humour. The mix of activities allowed everyone to participate in some or all the events with a combination of static and high energy games. And the weather managed to stay away… an Olympic feat within itself

Stunning staircase

It is always great to receive feedback from our clients.

The event was a three day, two night conference which included an Olympic fun afternoon of challenges and an evening after dinner Quiz… Olympic themed. We were asked  by our client to source a quality venue to host the meeting and activities.

We provided three venue options all within one hours drive of the clients offices with a menu of team building activity and entertainment options for the client to choose.

The Tag Aviator was selected as the venue and a combination of outdoor fun team activities and evening after dinner quiz both Olympic themed.

Hi Paul,

I just wanted to say ‘Thank You’ for all your hardwork and effort with helping us source a hotel and helping us to sort out the afternoon and evening activities.

The hotel was fabulous, and we pretty much only had to blink and there was someone there asking if we were ok. The service was the best by far from all the other hotels I have stayed at.

Also, could you please pass on my thanks to the events guys. They were brilliant! The activities went down a treat, everyone thoroughly enjoyed them and all the staff were on hand to make it as much fun as possible. Would you please ask if they are sending us a copy of the photos. They did say they would send a copy on a CD but so far we haven’t received anything and I wanted to circulate them to the rest of the team.

I will give you a call when I am in the office next week as I need to ask you about a casino event we may be holding.

Hannah at work with Cinnamon active

My name is Hannah Gregory and I will be blogging for the next 40 weeks about my work experience spent with Events Company Cinnamon Active.

I am a student studying BA (Hons) Events Management atBournemouthUniversityand have been lucky enough to secure an undergraduate work placement scheme with Events Company Cinnamon Active.
My time with Cinnamon will help me complete my degree and gain some experience and skills on the
way and hopefully throw in some ideas of my own.

I want to be an Events Manager and have been told by everyone in the profession that a lack of experience will hinder my chances. I can look great on paper with an academic record but it’s the work experience that will differentiate me from others.

So….  the time has arrived when I say goodbye to my manic two day a week university lectures and apply my experience and knowledge to the real working world.

The days leading up to my new challenge I felt excited and nervous. But the nerves were soon dispelled as I received a very friendly welcome from the Cinnamon team and pretty much the whole building!

My first day was quite a surprise as I did not expect to be attending an event on my very first day.

Some would say being thrown in the deep end but who can complain when you’re passionate to work in the events industry, and of course not forgetting the delicious free food and cakes!

The event was an activity day for Brentford Football Club.

It was a great success and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of it. Even though the weather was miserable, everything ran smoothly and quite possibly made it more fun in the rain!

This experience already gave me an insight to Cinnamon active of the way they operate and value their clients.

My second day I got the opportunity to go on a site visit to the Aviator Hotel to discuss an upcoming two day conference for client Nexen.

I found this very useful and learnt all the aspects that need to be taken into consideration when organising this type of event.

Attention to detail and communication is vital! Asking the appropriate questions to build a strong relationship with the client and the venue staff will make the pre, during and post event a lot easier to organise.

My third day I sat in on a meeting with client Sita. From this I learnt how the economic climate has an affect on the events industry. Therefore coming up with alternatives and thinking outside the box was the key of looking at every potential to save money for the client.

Alongside all of the practical experience I have also been in the office learning the procedures of enquires and bookings, which is where it all happens! I have a lot more to learn at Cinnamon active but I’m getting there!

 I’m up for the challenge!!

Arts and crafts are a fabulous tool to develop interaction and communication between individuals and groups/departments. Team building comes in many shapes and forms, but the essence of an effective team building event remains the same which Arts and Crafts incorporate. Interaction, stimulation, communication including the most important factor of all… Enjoyment. So what should you look for ?

The Amazing suspended F1 car at Mercedes Benz World

Another successful event and another successful event at Mercedes Benz World. This is the third event in 2012 and its still only April! the team and staff at MBW are excellent, helpful and professional.

The event for a punchy quarterly award ceremony for 350.

When we were initially presented with the brief to project the ambition, drive and performance of the clients business, MBW came to mind. MBW is a centre of excellence, directly associated with innovation, high performance and a constant goal of improvement, the venue represented the perfect image to the delegates.

in addition Cinnamon active provided the prizes for the top 16 performers which was a day out at the Epsom Derby with a Carluccios picnic hamper packed full of goodies for the day.
