Yesterday was the August meet and greet for my Meetup group here in the Bay Area. A few of us

Yesterday was the August meet and greet for my Meetup group here in the Bay Area. A few of us got together and had some pie at Marie Callender’s and I brought a free make and take for everyone to do. This month I decided to do some punch art and so I modified a past card I had made to use some new stamps and colors and came up with this card.

This was an easy card that used 7 punches in all, though you could modify this card to use fewer punches or more stamps. Here are the steps to create it yourself:

Punch the base of the flower using the extra large Fancy Flower punch

Stamp the five petal flower image from Punched Posies hostess set, once on colored cardstock and once on white cardstock

Punch out stamped images using the Five Petal punch

Stamp the smaller six petal flower image from the Punched Posies hostess set on white cardstock and punch out the center using 1/2” Circle punch

Layer these punched images together and glue

Punch the leaf using the Small Oval punch

Fold the oval in half and trim one side to form a point

Stamp the vase using one of the ornament images from the Delightful Decorations stamp set on white cardstock

Punch out using the ornament punch and trim the bottom of the ornament to form the flat base of the vase

Stamp the sentiment from the Because I Care hostess set on white cardstock

Punch out sentiment using the Large Oval punch

Punch corners of base white cardstock with the Ticket Corner punch

Stamp the stem using the stem image from the Punched Posies stamp set on base white cardstock

Glue down onto your card base and your done!

Punched Flower Recipe:
Stamps: Punched Posies, Delightful Decorations, Because I Care
Ink: Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive
Paper: Old Olive CS, Whisper White CS, Poppy Parade CS, Daffodil Delight CS
Accessories: Fancy Flower punch, Five Petal punch, 1/2” circle punch, Ornament punch, Ticket Corner punch, Small Oval punch, Large Oval punch

I’m not sure what happened to me this month. I started out the month of June OK by photographing jewelry each night as planned. But after taking so much time shooting just 10 items I felt tired.

Actually tired has been what I’ve been feeling for most of this month. Hence, not much of anything has been accomplished. I haven’t done much painting, no cards, not much jewelry until recently this week (I’ll post those items next week).

I’ve been on vacation and had grand plans for getting so many creative things done, but I seem to be lacking stem and inspiration. Maybe it’s the heat and humidity. Sometimes I feel like I need to just stop everything–I mean everything–for awhile just to get a rest. Does anyone else feel that way?

Maybe I just need to see some big results or sells to get me fired up. But that can’t happen if I don’t get these business things done each month to stay on track.

So here is what I didn’t get done in June and need to get done in July:

June goals (NOW JULY GOALS):

1. Continue to measure, size and name all paintings (five each night). Nope.

2. Photograph three pieces of jewelry each day after work. Only shot 10 pieces at the beginning of June. Need to do this for July.

3. Post at least 10 images of jewelry on my web site. Nope. Only got one up on the web.

4. Scan in 5 greeting cards per night. Nada. What’s wrong with me?!

Since I’m pretty new to the Bay area, I recently decided to start up a Meetup group as a way to meet new folks and find some other like-minded crafty people. Today was our first meetup, and so I planned a couple cards for us to work on over pie at Marie Callendars. Between work and vacation, I hadn’t had much of a chance this month to do much card making so it was a lot of fun to create some cards and get everything ready to share with folks today. It also gave me a chance to use some of my retiring items so I can start making room for the new goodies coming out in a few weeks.

Here are the cards and if you happen to be in the Bay area, we’d love to have you come be a part of our group!

As wonderful as our weekend at the show was, it only got better.

On Sunday morning, Logan and I took the Canadian Kennel Club’s Canine Good Neighbour evalution, and passed.
This was something that I’ve been talking about doing since I brought Logan home, and this really filled every dream I had of raising and beautiful well adjusted dog.

A little rundown of what the CGN test is:

The Canadian Kennel Club, Canine Good Neighbour program identifies and rewards responsible and caring owners and their canine partners.

The purpose of the Canine Good Neighbour Program test is to ensure that one of our most favoured companions, the dog, is accepted as a valued member of the community.
So, for all those naysayers, who think Dobermans are fierce, aggressive & don’t like strangers, booya!

We passed, and I couldn’t be more proud.

There is a large difference in learning how to meditate and being grounded and running energy. Meditation is about separation of mind or soul from the physical form. Grounding and running your energy is about being 100% in your body.

Find out where the center of your head is so that you can be present to create what you want in your life. Learn more about your chakras and how they can influence your mood. Using color and positive words in our 7th chakra can create the mood and vibration we would like to have each day. Turning down our chakras cause quiet in the body, and allows us to have peace in our lives.

Experience exercises that allows you to release energy that you no longer want or need. As well as releasing other people’s energy that gets into our energy space from interactions with them. And much more. When you walk away from this gathering you will have tools you can use on a daily basis to take charge of how you experience your life.

Meetup Fun Facts
The Toronto Doberman Pinscher Meetup Group is now up to 106 members!
Did you know …. we’ve had 27 Meetups so far?
The only other Doberman Pinscher Meetups are in San Diego, Oahu, Phoenix and Northern Virginia
We are the LARGEST registered Doberman Group!

Our Meetup Group is currently seeking a sponsor
Why Sponsor? This helps cover the cost of membership (which is currently being paid out of pocket by Lindsay)
Sponsorships are a great way for businesses, organizations or brands to support local Meetup groups, while getting exposure to active, local members.

What can a Meetup Group do for a Sponsor?

Meetup Groups are a great way for businesses or organizations to get the word out about their products, services and/or cause. And between the Meetups, member word of mouth, and the web traffic to the sponsored Meetup page, a Meetup can be a great, easy marketing tool for Sponsors.

As a Sponsor, the group will:

Display Sponsor’s logo prominently on all group pages

Include the sponsor in email messages sent to group members

Verbal acknowledgment at the actual Meetups

To find out more about sponorship opportunities, just fill out this form.
Or, contact Lindsay directly.

Meetup Survey
I want to hear your feedback – it’s what makes our meetups successful.
The more info I receive, the better our meetups will be!
Click here to fill out the survey.

Doberman Meetup Message Board
Just a reminder that we have a great Message Board feature on our meetup website.
It’s a great way of communicating with other members, and it’s even easier to reply to threads.
Why not kick it off, and post a question or topic for discussion here.

Ontario Doberman Rescue
Interested in a doberman? Looking for a rescue? Know someone who is?
Most of us fit into one of those categories – Please visit the Yahoo Group – Ontario Doberman Rescue
Available dogs can be found on the Harleywood Doberman & Equine Assistance website.

Rescue of the Month
Lex is currently at Toronto Animal Services South – came in malnourished.
02/19/10 – UPDATE from someone who visited Lex: “he is a sweet dog. Very very skinny and will need a lot of nutritious food. He was very polite and just like all the poor dogs in the shelter wanting attention. Although he didn’t make big nose about it, just stood there looking and asking to be rubbed.”

Little of his history is known – we’re waiting to find out about his approximate age.
Based on the pictures, I’m estimating approximately 2 years old, but we’ll post the estimates from the shelter as soon as we have them.
Please contact James at TAS for more information – jmclean2@toronto.ca

I’m happy to see that the Internet Marketing Meetup Group is going to be back in action. Havin

I’m happy to see that the Internet Marketing Meetup Group is going to be back in action. Having been terrifically run by Hubdub gurus for a couple years, the group has gone through a quiet spell for a few months without a fearless leader. Think Hubdub life was picking up quickly with FanDuel launching as well, but it looks like the Internet Marketing Meetup torch is now being handed to a new team of three – Alan, Jay, and Eliza.

If you are interested in online marketing, social media, SEO, and all that goodness, then look out for these monthly events. Organisers have laid out their goals and plans for the meetup below, and I think they’ll be taking on a really nice format – I especially like the chance to get market updates from the group. Have a look and perhaps see you there!

The group is now being organised by Alan Bold, Jay Feeney & Eliza Dashwood. Having recently met to discuss the future of the group, we propose that the Internet Marketing events/meetups will be held once a month (every month).

As we have a wide range of members from experienced marketeers to entrepreneurs, enthusiasts and beginners, we feel we should ideally format the evening so that everyone gets something out of it. Here’s how we’d like to structure a typical evening…

(1) “An introduction to…”
a 5-10 minute talk covering a general synopsis about some key marketing strategies (ranging from SEM, SEO, Social Media, online/offline PR etc. etc.)

(2) Guest Speaker
We’ll invite a range of guest speakers to cover more specialist areas. Whilst we feel we should try to put the emphasis on marketing where we can, we feel we shouldn’t pigeon-hole the group too much and would like a range of speakers from marketing specialists to tech-founders and entrepreneurs.

(3) Q&A with guest speaker
Where questions will be opened up to the floor

(4) Market & Tech updates from the group
This is where we would encourage our regular members to give the group a quick update on any news from within their specialist field of interest or expertise. This could range from Google updates, Facebook developer updates, iPhone developer tips, recommended apps etc. etc.

(5) Drinks and networking
We’ll all head to the pub and carry on the evening with a few drinks. We’d really like to get people mingling a little more and will actively try to make more introductions and connections as we get to know everyone.

Hopefully this format will make for an informative evening for everyone and we really hope that we can get the creative and network juices flowing. We’ll try to post everything covered in the evening onto a group blog, and endeavour to video each section down the line. We’re also looking into more active forum channels so we can make more of the group online.

As ever, this is an open group and we encourage input from everyone – ideas for speakers, networking and events are always welcome

We hope to see everyone at the next event which we’ll be announcing next week when we have confirmed the venue…

Now let me make one thing very clear: there is only ONE Bisket. My little Boston Terrier puppy love

Now let me make one thing very clear: there is only ONE Bisket. My little Boston Terrier puppy love is enough to circle the world twice, but I ain’t Ol’ St. Nick – I can’t be everywhere at once! That’s why the world needs some other Boston Terriers to spread the lovin’. And until yesterday, I didn’t even know they existed.

I got into my best harness, checked it twice in the mirror and hopped into the car. I had no idea where we were going, but I could sense it was somewhere that had some dogs. And where there’s dogs, there’s usually beef-flavored treats – and you know how I feel about beef-flavored treats. Yup, about the same way I feel about chicken-flavored treats. Or lamb-flavored treats. Ok, the same way I feel about treats – period!

So eventually we got to a pleasant house on a pleasant street and went around back. It looked like any other house; smelled like any other house. So what was the big deal?????

BOSTONS!

All over the place! So many me-looking dogs that I had to nip myself in the butt to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I couldn’t believe it. Big Bostons, little Bostons, Bostons with round heads, Bostons with droopy ears, Bostons with tails, Bostons with Southern accents, Bostons with attitude, Bostons with black fingernails, and brown Bostons!

And then the fun started…

Earlier this week I attended the Big Success Business Pitch Summer Contest, organized by the San Francisco Entrepreneurs Meetup Group. These were the five contestants who all made a fantastic job presenting their companies:

Bill Brobeck – Chief Technical Officer Brobeck Solar Energy

Meghan Connolly Haupt – Founder of Sulusso

Ben Lewis – Founder of Engage As You Age

Hilary DeCesare - Co-founder and CEO of Girl Ambition and

Dan Porras, Founder & CEO of Planetwize

The winner selected by both the panel and the audience was Ben Lewis– Founder of Engage As You Age.

At Engage As You Age, LLC, we offer far more than friendly companionship; we know how to rekindle an older adult or senior’s involvement with contemporary life.

We’re not a caregiving company. What we are is a unique organization that carefully pairs insured, bonded, and trained employees with clients who share similar interests and passions. We personalize all of our matches to ensure that you or your loved one’s temperament and interests mesh well with those of a carefully selected activity specialist.

Our 2- to 3- hour visits are a surprisingly cost-effective way to bolster intellectual and emotional well-being. Our services are based on our belief that seniors deserve more than a life focused on meds and maintenance.

That is very cool. Connect our elderlys to their passion, and make them live a prolonged happier and healthier life. Being a promoter of music myself, I think Dan Porras had an interesting solution with the Planetwize: promoting music for a cause, with a business model that supports the musicians. I was only there to listen and learn…

It reminded me of a presentation course I took with Dale Carnegie in Stockholm some 15 years ago. At every session we gave short presentations, and there were contests in different categories. The winner was guided to give a Thank you speech following their 3-step model, which as my memory recalls was as follows: 1. Thank you, and express garatitude/appreciation. 2. This prize/token/award will always remember me of… 3. Thank you.

I had the honor of receiving such an award at the last session of the course, and the “Dale Carnegie Winner” Pen that I received would always remember me of a story that the leader shared during the first session. It was about jumping grasshoppers. You can soon read the story in my about page – but basically, I would always thrive to and encourage others to live and act as free as grasshoppers naturally do. Hm. Maybe that is what I still do now, with the Dale Carnegie Winner Pen in a different format. OK – so let’s go…

Aim high, and jump! The winner is you.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to easily manifest everything they need, while others struggle time and time again? There can be many reasons, but one thing I notice is that the people creating all they need have a tremendous connection to the Source and recognize that all they need lies inside themselves. Try this experiment for yourself. Sit quietly and ground, making an energy connection from the base of your spine to the center of the earth. Now, with your eyes closed, say hello to the Spirit part of you. Make room inside yourself to manifest all that you came to do this lifetime. Visualize giving yourself more space, making room for yourself as a spiritual being. Fill this space with joy, appreciation for all, and celebration of your life. Ask the Source for a blessing and fill in this new space with the gold light of Source. Validate how good it feels to be you—on your path and aligned with Light.

Now do the same thing to your body. Give it a “hello.” Ask the body what you can do as a spirit to make life easier for your body. You might really be surprised what the body asks for! Notice how you treat this body of yours. What kind of a spiritual boss are you? Are you kind, considerate and fun? Or are you critical, driven and judgmental? Try changing how you communicate with your body and then notice what kind of miracles you are able to manifest. It’s easier to create when you are happy and aligned with your spirit and your body. We call this Spirit/Body communications, and it’s worth clearing out and healing this space whenever you notice you are in effort and life seems harder than it should.

Well today, I thought it might be time for me to talk about me and how it all came to be with Sister

Well today, I thought it might be time for me to talk about me and how it all came to be with Sisters Saving Sisters Meetup Group. So I am going to take some time now to share the story.

I am Charlene Brown, born and raised in Washington, DC. Wife of 24yrs of a 30yr relationship with 4 sons 27-25-20-18. Grandmother and loving it. I am the Owner of The Black Business Cafe which house and mothers Black Vendors Network, Kingdom Biz & now Events Nationwide and Sisters Saving Sisters.

I have been asked “how do you do it”? My answer is this. When God gives you something it becomes an assignment and wisdom is given from God to accomplish the many duties that come with it all. God gives me wisdom to do what I do and that’s all I know. I love it all, because in everything that I do, it is an avenue to help and assist people and I love doing that. I am a relational kind of person and I don’t take relationships lightly. I love establishing relationships with people and when one goes in left field, it takes me by storm. I am always trying to figure out what went wrong or what happened. Oh yeah, they don’t all work out the way I would like, however God is good and I am always learning to accept what God has allowed.

How did I become The Organizer of Sisters Saving Sisters? Whew!! Well, I was a member of the MeetupGroup, one that I must admit, I was not active on not one bit. I liked the name of it, but could never findthe time to attend the meetings. Ok, most times, I did not even go to the site. Then one day, I had this bright idea to start a Women’s meetup group for The BBC Women. One that I did not share with anyone. I just wanted to see what it would do on it’s own. Well, on it’s own it really was not doing anything. I had not shared it with my Network or anyone else for that matter. Then one day, one of my colleagues joined from Florida. So there we were, just me and her….:)). Now this was unusual for me, because everything that I do, that God has his hand in, grows and prospers and this group was not doing anything. It was so amazing to me. It was one sign that I wasn’t to have it, at least not that way. Of course the night I started it, I asked myself, “why did you just do that” and I had no answer, so I let it just sit there and of course, still nothing.

In the meanwhile, I started getting these messages that one of my meet up groups was closing and to save my meetup group. So I looked at the email and tried to click on the button to get more info about the group, but since I already was owner of 3 other meet ups, it would not allow me to even get the info on it. So I said, oh well and kept it moving, continuied doing what I do with all my other assignments. Not too long after that, I received another email. Same thing, that one of my meet up groups was about to close and to save it. Well again, I clicked for more info to see if I wanted to save the group and yep, the same thing. I could not get info, because I already had the max meetup groups that one person could have. So again, I left it alone. Then I got to thinking about it and what an opportunity it would be to keep that group open. Yes, It was the meetup group Sisters Saving Sisters ( I will use SSS for short here on out ). So I went to one of my meetups to see about stepping down as the organizer, so that I could step up into the organizer position for SSS. Well to my surprise, I just could not get it done or figured out. So again, I left it alone and said oh well. Then not long after that, again guess what I got? You guesses it!! Another email from meetup.com, that my meetup group SSS would be closing. This time it was Urgent! The group would be clsoingin 24hrs if no one stepped up to save it. Now, I just felt compelled to do something. A group of Women, with a name as such, just could not cease to be. At least that is what I felt within me. So now the challenge was on for me to figure this thing out. What I could not believe is that out of over 100 members that no one had stepped up to save this group. Now that did not make sense to me. So, can you guess what I had to do. If you guessed, remove myself from the organizer seat of The BBC Women’s Social, you are correct. There was just something within me that did not want this group to close. Now I really did not see how or know where I would find the time to organize this group with all that I already had and I had stepped down as Chapter Leader and withdrew my entire membership only months prior from a really great Women’s Organization (that really hurt me, becuase I did not want to leave it) but God had instructed me to cut it completely off. No, He had not revealed to me that only a few months later, that I would be organizing another one. God is good and he does all things well though. So now the race was on for me to do something andI did it. Yep, I did it. I send my colleague a message on the other group and told her about SSS andt that she could join me over there and I stepped down from The BBC Women’s Social and stepped up into SSS on August 5, 2008. It was a great feeling that I had to save that group. There is great meaning in the name and it fitted my character andthere were only a few things that would be changed. That is how my journey began with SSS. The first day, I did nothing. Trying to figure out now how to approach the group, seeing so many familiar faces from my previous group. I kind of thought, they would think I was crazy or unstable or something…So I was quiet and prayerful for the first day. Then I think it was the 2nd day, that I thought I need to speak or say something. Some of the Women had already started reaching out to me and thanking me for saving the group and how they felt that it was worth saving. That made me feel good too, about saving it. So after praying about this group and asking God how to confront them and what to do, I got my answers ( some of them anyway ) and I wrote an introduction to the group, telling them who I was a little andreaching out to them to find out more about the group. The rest is kind of history and I will write more about it soon.

Just thought that before I started coming forth about the great women in this group and how we are Sisters on the move, building and establishing a new relationship with one another, that I should share a little bit about the organizer and how I got started with SSS.

Let me add this. There are some phenomenal women in this meet up and they are doing some wonderful things and being successful and I intend to share as much as possible about them as I can or as they allow for the world to know how great they are. They reached out to me and made me feel very comfortable. Of course some women have left and some are still leaving but we can’t tell, because for every one that leaves, God sends 2. So whereas we were at 136 members when I stepped up, we are now at 147 members…see, you can’t even tell that any have left. But as you can see, it’s growing and that is always a sign to me that I am in the right place. We all are going to grow together, and find that balance in and for our lives and our businesses as we reach out to bring others in to experience the same things. If you are in the local area of DC, MD, Va and interested in joining our Meetup Group. http://networkmarket.meetup.com/590
