It all started when Mrugank, who was previously part of the band HIV as a guitarist, had gone down to anand to watch one of  his school mates, Nitin, perform live. With HIV already on the verge of splitsvilla, Mrugank was looking to form a new band and was in search for musicians with similar musical interest. After the show at anand, he decided to contact nitin and ask for his availability for a jam session.

Hence, a jam session was arranged at anant’s place. Anant had been playing with Mrugank for over a year by then and was the drummer at HIV. With a small a cozy jam room setup at his place, it was a great place to just let loose and compose music. Nitin and Ranjit joined the session to give it a try. The result of the first ever jam session by the band was musically evolving for each of the member. Ranjit roped in Ashwin to play bass for the band and the line up was complete

At the same time a prominent radio station had organized a rock competition for bands to participate with a chance to compose a jungle for the station. Grabbing the opportunity the band went ahead and registered itself. However when the call was made to the organizer a critical question came across to the band “Whats the name? ” With the organizer on hold, the band brainstormed with finally ranjit suggesting Vish (which initially was taken as Wish by Mrugank and Anant ) and voila V!SH was in existence and ready to rock the city. After the first show though Ashwin had to leave the band which made way for Dhaval, ex guitarist at HIV, to join the band on the Bass.

From the show at the radio station competition, the band went on to perform at various college fests like CEPT, DAIICT and were awarded the second runners up at the rock idols round held in ahmedabad. After a year or so of performances, the band decided to concentrate on their original compositions and tried to take the band on its course towards Desi Rock. Strong compositions played out with heavy riffs and beautiful lyrics line up the bands debut albums. The band however split soon after initial recordings with anant departing for pune to pursue his career.

Now, with almost a couple of years in sabbatical, the  band has resurfaced again with new original music and more passion towards music, and have gone ahead with the production of their debut album at Megahertz!.

“VISH”ing all a rocking time ahead

After almost a couple of weeks post the release of their second single, V!SH released its third single “Ye Subah” yesterday. The song has been produced at Megahertz! studio.

To bring some variations to the musical layout of its album, V!SH composed this track to have some thumping beats along with the rock music. The song also has Ranjit Singh, the bands guitarist, on the vocals.

Finally answering to all the pleas of rockers in the city, Words and Images brings you RockParva.

RockParva is a national level band competition organized to provide a platform for upcoming bands to showcase their talent as well as their enthusiasm towards rock music. The competition is open to bands from all across the countries and across all genres of rock music, thus providing a good eclectic mix of bands for the audience to hear. The event is 3 tier with first round eliminations followed by a 2 day event with the headlining act being none other then AGNEE, the band who composed music for recent season of splitsville!. Bit

Singkatan dari binary digit (angka biner)- merupakan satuandata terkecil. Nilainya cuma 1 dan 0 walau kelihatannya sederhana, tapi dua angka inilah yang mengalir terus didalam PC, berputar dari processor, Motherboard, chip memory sampai ke perangkat-perangkat penyimpanan data dan output lainnya atau sebaliknya. Bit mengalir sebagai sinyal-sinyal listrik. Ibarat saklar, angka nol berarti off sedangkan angka 1 artinya on. Begitulah, rangkaian data yang jumlahnya miliaran bahkan triliunan bit mengalir bagai orang menekan tombol on/off secara berulang-ulang dan cepat. Akan tetapi, bit punya wujud fisik juga. Pada sebuah CD contohnya, bit tampak sebagai bintik-bintik yang amat kecil pada permukaan disk. Sinar laser CD-ROM drive memungkinkan membaca dan mengubahnya menjadi sinyal listrik yang komputer. Bit biasanya tidak pernah berdiri sendiri. Maknanya baru muncul begitu terdiri dari sejumlah bit. Dalam perhitungan biner ada sejumlah komputer yang dipakai, yaitu sistem 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit, 64 bit dan seterusnya. Dengan sistem itulah komputer membaca, menerjemahkan kembali dan mengolah data angka, huruf, gambar dan sebagainya. Beruntunglah, kita tidak perlu mengetahui semua perhitungan itu untuk menggunakan komputer. Tinggal klak-klik atau ketak-ketik saja. Walau begitu, pemahaman mengenai bit akan sangat berguna untuk memahami berbagai aspek lain dalam komputer.

Byte

Terbentuk dari delapan bit. Sebuah byte merupakan kumpulan bit terkecil yang dapat dimengerti komputer. Sebuah byte mewakili angka desimal dari 0 sampai 255. Byte juga digunakan untuk mewakili huruf-huruf, angka-angka, simbol-simbol lain dalam bentuk ASCII (American Standart Code for Information). Sebagai contoh, bila Anda mengetik huruf A pada keyboard, komputer merekamnya sebagai kode ASCII 65 dan menerjemahkannya dalam perhitungan biner sebagai 01000001 – yang merupakan 1 byte. Data.

Kilobyte

Satu kilobyte data bejumlah begitu bermakna. Sama saja seperti halnya kita mengetik sebuah huruf dalam notepad. Tak ada artinya. Dokumen biasanya tersimpan dalam komputer dengan ukuran kilobyte (KB). Satuan kilo biasanya berarti seribu, tapi satu kilobyte tidak sama dengan 1.000 byte, Komputer kan bekerja dengan sistem biner, maka satu kilobyte sebenarnya sama dengan 1.024 byte. Walau begitu, untuk mudahnya, Anda boleh memperkirakan satu kilobyte sama dengan 1.000 karakter (termasuk spasi). Tulisan ini, misalnya, terdiri dari sekitar 12.000 karakter. Jadi, besarnya dalam komputer sekitar 12 KB.

Megabyte

Diatas kilobyte, kita menemukan satuan megabyte (MB). Orang biasanya menyebutkan “satu mega” saja. satu MB sama dengan 1.024 kilobyte. Dan itu artinya 1 MB sama dengan 1.048.576 byte, bukan sejuta byte. Memory komputer pada umumnya diukur dengan satuan ini. Misalnya, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB dan seterusnya.

Gigabyte

Ukuran penyimpana data di komputer kini tidak lagi menggunakan satuan megabyte. Coba saja periksa harddisak yang ada di pasaran saat ini. Semua sudah menggunakan satuan gigabyte (GB). satuan gigabyte sama dengan 1.024 MB. Diatas satuan ini ada lagi satuan terrabyte (TB) yang sama dengan 1.024 GB. Kapasitas Harddisk diukur dengan GB.

Kilobit

Satuan ini tidaklah sama denga satuan kilobyte. Kilobit (Kb) merupakan satuan ukuran kecepatan transfer data komputer. Satu kilobit sama dengan 1000 bit. Sebuah modem, contohnya, menawarkan kecepatan download maksimum 56 Kb/s. Itu artinya modem tersebut mampu mengantarkan 56 kilobit (56.000 bit) data melalui jalur telephone dalam setiap detiknya. Ambil kalkulator dan coba hitung, kecepatan tersebut sama dengan 6.9 KB/s (kilobyte per second).

Megabit

Dalam jaringan komputer yang besar, kecepatan transfer datanya bisa mencapai satuan ukuran yang lebih besar, yaitu megabit (Mb). Kabel yang digunakan dalam jaringan komputer dikantor contohnya, dapat mengirim dan menerima data sampai 100 Mb/s atau sama dengan seratus juta bit setiap detiknya. Coba lakukan perhitungan kembali. Bahwa kecepatan transfer setinggi itu (100 Mb/s) sama dengan kecepatan 11,9 MB perdetik.

Hertz (Hz)

Hertz sebenarnya adalah nama keluarga dari Heinrich Rudolf, ahli fisika Jerman yang menemukan satuan pengukuran frekuensi radio dan listrik. Begitulah asal satuan Hertz. Satu Hertz (1 Hz) berarti satu putaran gelombang radio per detik. Di dunia komputer, satuan ini juga banyak digunakan. Pada monitor-monitor CRT misalnya, satuan Hz sebenarnya menggambarkan kemampuan me-refresh layar setiap detiknya. Monitor yang menawarkan refresh rate 85 Hz mampu me-refresh gambar pada layar sebanyak 85 kali setiap detik. Hal ini membuat tampilannya terlihat halus dan tidak berkedip.

Megahertz (MHz)

Satu Megahertz berarti satu juta putaran tiap detik. Memang belum ada monitor yang bisa mencapai kecepatan seperti ini, namun lain halnya dengan processor komputer. Kecepatan 1 MHz bagi processor akan terasa amat sangat lambat. Kecepatan processor diukur berdasarkan kemampuannya melakukan kalkulasi dalam sedetik. Pada generasi PC pertama, kecepatan processornya masih menggunakan kecepatan MHz, yaitu 4,77 MHz

Bandingkan dengan rata-rata PC Pentium 4 yang sudah memiliki kecepatan 3,2 GHz atau 3,2 milyar kalkulasi per detik. Tapi janganlah hanya melihat satuan ini untuk melihat kecepatan processor yang sesungguhnya. Sering beberapa processor yang memiliki satuan kecepatan yang lebih rendah dapat mengerjakan perhitungan yang sama dengan lebih cepat, ketimbang processor yang kecepatannya tinggi. Produsen processor memiliki trik-trik tersendiri untuk membuat processornya memiliki performa yang baik, tidak hanya dengan adu kecepatan.

Gigahertz (GHz)

Ada dua bidang di dunia komputer yang menggunakan satuan GHz, yaitu processor dan jaringan nirkabel. Untuk processor, barusan Anda sudah tahu gambarannya kan? Nah dalam jaringan nirkabel, istilah ini biasa dipakai untuk menentukan tingkat spektrum radio yang digunakan. Bluetooth misalnya, menggunakan frekuensi 2,4 GHz. Sedangkan Wi-Fi memakai frekuensi 2,4 GHz sampai 5GHz.

Kecepatan CD-RW Drive

Angka-angka yang tercantum dalam CD-RW drive sering membingungkan orang. Apa sih arti 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 24x, 32x dan seterusnya? Patokannya sebenarnya gampang saja. Kalikan saja angka perkalian tersebut dengan angka 150 KB per detik. Nilai itu merupakan kecepatan drive yang pertama kali Cek dengan kalkulator Anda. CD-RW drive berkecepatan 2x mampu menulis dengan kecepatan 300 KB per detik, sedangkan drive dengan kecepatan 52x mampu menulis hingga 7.800 KB/detik. Tapi angka perkalian pada CD-RW drive tidak hanya satu, ada tiga angka, rumusnya: Kecepatan baca x kecepatan tulis (CD-R) x kecepatan rewrite (CD-RW) x. CD-RW drive dengan kecepatan 48 x 32 x 16 misalnya, mampu membaca dengan kecepatan 48x, menulis dengan kecepatan 32x, dan memiliki kemampuan rewrite 16x.

Kecepatan DVD Drive

DVD-RW drive memang lebih cepat. Angka dasar untuk mengetahui tingkat kecepatan DVD drive adalah 1.358 KB per detik. Jadi, kalikan saja kecepatan DVD dengan angka tersebut. Drive yang beredar di pasaran kebanyakan berkecepatan 16x. Artinya, berkecepatan sekitar 22.160 KB per detik. Sayangnya, aturan di pasar DVD-RW drive memang tidak sejelas CD-RW drive. Anda tidak dapat melihat potensial untuk membaca, menulis, dan rewrite hanya dengan sekilas. Yang juga membingungkan, sebagian besar DVD drive juga dapat merekam CD-R dan CD-RW. Beberapa model terbaru malah dapat merekam ke berbagai standar DVD. Walau begitu, kalau Anda telaten membaca keterangan didalamnya, info seperti itu mestinya tersedia.

Kecepatan Harddisk (rpm)

Singkatan rpm (revolution per minute) pada harddisk menentukan kecepatan putar pelat magnetiknya. Semakin tinggi nilai rpm, semakin cepat pula putaran pelat disk. Hal ini berpengaruh pada nilai transfer data. Dengan kata lain, seberapa cepat data dapat dibaca dan ditulis pada disk tersebut. Biasanya, sebuah harddisk PC berputar pada kecepatan 5.400 rpm, dan tingkat kecepatan ini sebenarnya lebih dari cukup. Walau begitu, Anda bisa juga membeli harddisk dengan kecepatan 7.200 rpm. Peningkatan kecepatan ini memang memberikan sedikit peningkatan kinerja. Kalau mau, Anda juga bisa membeli model 10.000 rpm, tetapi harganya memang relatif mahal.

Kecepatan Printer (ppm)

Para vendor printer biasanya menawarkan kecepatan pencetakan printernya. Satuan yang biasa dipakai untuk menggambarkan hal itu adalah paper per minute alias ppm. Gampangnya, semakin besar nilai ppm, maka semakin cepatlah printer tersebut. Ppm sendiri sebenarnya hanya efektif untuk menggambarkan kecepatan text. Begitu ada unsur gambar atau grafik dalam dokumen, kecepatannya biasanya langsung turun. Apalagi bila kita mencetak foto pada printer inkjet, nilai ppm benar-benar tidak bisa diharapkan. Sebaliknya, kecepatan cetak foto biasanya diukur dalam hitungan menit. Apapun printernya, kecepatan pencetakan sebenarnya juga berhubungan dengan kecepatan komputer itu sendiri.

Frame per detik (fps)

Apa yang penting kita perhatikan dari spesifikasi sebuah kartu grafis? Lihatlah nilai frames per second (fps) yang ditawarkannya. Makin tinggi fps atau frame-ratenya, maka semakin haluslah gerakan pada layar. Dalam sebuah game, kemampuan frame-rate kartu grafis menjadi sangat penting, mengingat game memang merupakan gambar yang terus bergerak. Kalau gamenya sederhana sih, kartu grafis dengan fps yang biasa saja tidak akan menjadi masalah. Tapi cobalah mainkan game 3D, kartu grafis dengan fps yang tinggi akan menunjukkan keunggulannya. Saat memainkan video, nilai fps juga sangat menentukan tingkat kehalusan tampian video. Kartu grafis dengan nilai fps rendah bisa membuat tampilan video terlihat patah-patah. Begini saja, kuncinya carilah kartu grafis dengan nilai fps dia atas 30 fps. Kalau bisa, carilah dengan nilai yang paling tinggi, apalagi Anda doyan main game 3D.

Dot per inch (dpi)

Kualitas hasil cetak printer dan kemampuan scaner dalam menangkap gambar biasa ditunjukan dengan nilai dot per inch (dpi). Nilai ini menunjukkan seberapa banyak titik pada satu inch persegi. Tapi kenyataannya istilah ini seolah-olah kehilangan arti pentingnya. Kemampuan sebuah printer untuk menghasilkan begitu banyak titik pada setiap inch sebenarnya bukan patokan kualitas hasil cetak. Ragam tinta, ukuran droplet (titik tinta), teknik semprot, serta kualitas kertas berkonstribusi langsung pada tampilan akhirnya. Begitu pula halnya dengan scaner. Sebuah scaner dengan resolusi 9.600 dpi contohnya, mungkin hanya bisa menangkap informasi gambar sekitar 600 dpi saja. Waspadai, tingginya nilai dpi bisa jadi merupakan hasil interpolasi digital dan bukan karena kemampuan sebenarnya.

Pixel

Pixel merupakan kependekan dari picture element. Satuan ini banyak digunakan pada monitor, baik LCD maupun CRT. Gambar-gambar yang Anda lihat pada monitor kenyataannya terbuat dari ribuan (bahkan jutaan) titik kecil yang berwarna, itulah yang dinamakan pixel. Hal ini biasa ditentukan oleh resolusi kartu grafisnya. Kartu grafis yang dapat menghasilkan resolusi layar 1.600 x 1.200 pixel, contohnya, akan menghasilkan 1.920.000 pixel. Resolusi sebesar itu terbilang cukup rapat dan halus. Resolusi layar monitor CRT biasanya lebih fleksibel, sementara monitor TFT lebih terbatas.

Ukuran point

Point atau pt menunjukkan ukuran cetak suatu jenis font. Dalam pencetakan modern, tinggi satu point biasanya sama dengan 1/72 inch (0.0138 inch atau 0.35 mm). Karena itu, font dengan ukuran itu sudah termasuk ruang untuk tipe huruf yang menjulur keatas (seperti ‘f’), ke bawah (seperti ‘p’).

Megapixel

Istilah megapixel sering dipakai dalam kamera digital. Satu megapixel sama dengan satu juta pixel, menunjukkan kemampuan kamera dalam menangkap detil obyek yang difoto. Asumsinya, sebuah kamera dengan kemampuan dua megapixel akan menangkap gambar yang lebih detil ketimbang kamera digital satu megapixel. Tetapi, resolusi sebenarnya hanya salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kamera digital. Kualitas yang sebenarnya juga sangat penting adalah kemampuan lensanya itu sendiri. Tapi hati-hati mencerna spesifikasi kamera digital. Klim dua megapixel misalnya, bisa saja sebenarnya hanya mampu mengambil resolusi sampai 1.600 x 1.200 pixel, yang artinya sama dengan 80.000 pixel. Jauh betul dari angka yang digembar-gemborkannya kan? Faktor penyebabnya bisa bermacam-macam. Yang jelas, ada juga yang secara jujur mengungkapkan bahwa angka itu merupakan hasil interpolasi atau pengatrolan warna belaka.

Amdawadis are known for their musical interests. From sell out concerts by bollywood playback singers to mesmerizing gazal nights, each musical gathering has a strong feel of participation from the audience. However if we move away from commercial music towards other genres, we hit upon the rising cult of rock music lovers.

Though English music is still being perceived as backstreet boys and bryan adams, the rock music scene has been changing in the city. And with bollywood music also adapting to more fusion compositions with rock elements, the audience is getting far more accepting to the overdriven guitar. From rock shows witnessing a modest turnout of 150-200, despite of free entry, about a year ago now witness rock enthusiast in numbers over 500 f or a paid entry! Its great to see people sporting children of bodom shirts all around. The rock attitude sure is catching up with the city.

It’s the quality of music which finally matters and with invigorating new talent coming up besides the experienced bands, there is a strong sense of serge for the rock music movement. A proper platform with strong support is what is needed to provide the impetus for the scene to surge ahead. Lets work towards a more organized rock scene for the city of fafdas and jalebis !

Megahertz Music Clinic, the tutorial sessions arranged by megahertz studios, aims at bringing out the music lovers in all of you. The clinic has the sole purpose of providing proper technical guidance into guitar and keyboard playing. Covering various genres of rock music as well as a hint of blues and jazz along with the usual hindi music for the desi lovers.

The guitar course laid out here emphasizes on guitar playing techniques and theories rather than on songs. With the periodic jam sessions lined up, we would be allowing the students to practice with a band setup to get a feel of playing music in sync with all instruments. The 24 sessions cover even the handling and maintenance of electric guitars and guitar processors.  At the end of the 24 sessions, the students would be given the opportunity to record their own track, either a self composition or a cover of their favorite song.

Hey there! This week was an eventful one for me and Chris at HowStuffWorks.com. On top of the podcasting, blogging, social networking and article writing, Chris and I tested a new project: TechStuff Live! Starting next Tuesday, we will be streaming a live show at 1:00 p.m. Eastern once a week. The show will cover tech news, sites and products that have landed on our radar and a few other fun segments. Plus it’s video! You’ll be able to watch as I say things that inspire Chris to hide behind his computer. We’ll have more details about the show on Monday, so stay tuned.

The episodes this week were inspired by listeners. On Monday, our goal was to demystify the terms megabits, megabytes and megahertz. Of course, we didn’t just focus on the mega range — we also talked about everything from kilobytes to yottabytes. But if you’ve ever wondered how many bytes are in a kilobyte (hint: it’s not 1,000), you should listen to this show. We also explain how you can calculate how long it will take you to download a file assuming your Internet connection is as fast as advertised.

On Wednesday, we talk about the current video game consoles on the market. Chris and I first did an episode about video game consoles more than a year ago. But that show was only five minutes long and didn’t have much detail. This time we give the subject a bit more time and explain why we don’t cover video game news as often as some listeners would like. We recorded the show the day that Sony announced price cuts in the PS3 but before Microsoft announced the cuts to the Xbox 360. With the cheaper 360, I think I may have found my next game console.

A few listeners wrote in to mention that while we say the PS3 isn’t backwards compatible, that wasn’t always the case. This is absolutely true — the earliest models of the PS3 had backwards capability. But Sony has since discontinued those models and the new ones are not compatible with older PlayStation games. If you want backwards compatibility, look for a used PS3 from those early days. Otherwise, I think we’re all going to have to close our eyes and believe in faeries if we want to see Sony push out a firmware upgrade to allow you to play your old games again. Lots of fun today at The Community Cup, in Elsternwick Park, where The Megahertz (represented by PBS and RRR DJs) took on The Espy Rockdogs (represented by members of bands, who I presume, play at the Espy from time to time..).
We rose unusually early for a Saturday morning (9.30am) and eventually got to Elsternwick around 12.20pm, it was still fairly quiet at that point, but Jordi Lane was giving it his all (or most of it) onstage; so we grabbed a coffee and sat down to read our brochures and catch some of his set. I was thinking about catching him at Northcote Social Club later in the month, and while he was good; I’m skint, and he wasn’t so good I need to pay to go see him again this month. Sorry Jordi.
After a brief wander about (the sun was out – yay!), we grabbed some food: cheese and spinach roll (“vegetarian option”) and sat back down again to catch Doll Squad; a much more interesting (and photogenic) prospect. Now this lot were good: Spector meets Joan Jett meets Tura Satana x 6. Just the kind of band I love to listen to, and (yeah, yeah) photograph. My girlfriend, not one to tolerate a wandering eye lightly, feigned disinterest throughout.
No such worries with Kram, next on stage. We saw them last when they supported Eagles Of Death Metal. Actually we overheard the last few tracks of their set as we entered The Palace for the EoDM gig and headed straight for the bar. This time around, we got a chance to see (and hear!) them properly. Awesome. I tried to video one track in particular on my camera, so that I could remember what it was called and ‘acquire’ it at a later stage; but I somehow managed to record about ten seconds before switching the record function off again (but didn’t notice until the track had ended some four minutes later…).

Following the National Anthem being played by Scared Weird Little Guys, the game kicked off. Funnily enough, this was the first time we’d ever watched an AFL game, and brushing up on the rules a couple of nights before paid off. I’m sure someone will tell me that this was a charity game, and the rules weren’t exactly adhered to, but at least we knew what the tall pointy sticks at each end of the ground represented, and why everything stopped each time someone caught a ball.

Half time was the preserve of the Cosmic Psychos, a Motorhead-esque band of equally Lemmy-esque performers playing loud. The baldy, bikie types in the crowd seemed to enjoy themselves although my OH did not; spending the entire break in the queue for coffee, because I’d asked her to grab me a coffee on her way back from the beer tent. My fault, obviously.
Our eardrums suitably mauled, the second half kicked-off. By this time, the sun had long gone back to whence it came and I was beginning to regret my choice of light rainproof jacket; my persistent vegetarian’s cold creeping back into my sinuses and mood. The much-anticipated appearance of streakers woke us all up briefly but the age  of the streakers was a disappointment. It’s hard to know where you’re supposed to look or how you’re supposed to respond when the streakers are a bunch of sub-seven year olds… The two adult male streakers (wisely) put their pants back on halfway across the field – the cold was clearly affecting more than my body temperature…

The game itself was a tight one, with the Espy Rockdogs just nipping it, and we were off to the relative warmth of our car (heater runs off engine, it started giving out heat five minutes before we got home) as soon as the final whistle blew.

I remember being a Junior at La Crescent High School and learning about poetry and poetical devices from an incredible teacher named Ms. Sandy. I took an interesting re-appraisal at the music that I had been listening to previously, and I realized (with the exception of classic rock) that the Rap I had been listening to was pretty shitty to be frank. I remember at the time I had been hearing about Talib, and the things that I had heard were so positive that I had to get one of his albums. Quality is the first Kweli album I purchased, and it was a great entrance into the world of malicious metaphors, sick similes, wicked words and brazen bars. To me, Talib Kweli is easily one of the greatest emcees of all time, and I thank God this album exposed me to him.

This album sounds a little more commercially acceptable than Kweli’s excellent effort with Hi-Tek (Reflection Eternal), but that takes nothing away from this album because it’s still a classic. The album starts out with a great intro from Dave Chapelle about cruisin with Kweli “through the Mississippi Delta” which is sure to make me laugh everytime I hear it. The commercially lovable track “Get By” is nothing short of an impressive showing with Kanye’s beautiful sample of Nina Simone and Kweli rhyming ridiculously, “We sell crack to our own out the back of our homes/We smell the musk at the dusk and the crack at the dawn/We go through “Episodes 2″ like “Attack of the Clones”…”, and “Ask him why some people gotta live in a trailer/Cuz like a sailor I paint a picture with the pen like Norman Mailor”. The track “Gun Music” has a beat by Megahertz with beautiful guitar riffs and Talib continuing the microphone massacre, “…bring in the fuckin’ dead bodies, go ahead bring in your boys/you’ll see the soul of black folk like W.E.B. Du Bois”. Mos Def joins Kweli on the track “Joy” as Talib navigates a narrative of what it was like when his wife gave birth to his daughter. Ayatollah provides a sentimental backdrop for Talib’s heart-felt fable which is “The Proud“. Talib recounts the Oklahoma City bombing, as well as the 9/11 tragedy spitting metaphors left and right so fast it will make your head spin.

On my favorite track, Black Thought, Kanye West and Pharoahe Monch (holy fucking lineup) join Talib on the Kanye West produced “Guerilla Monsoon Rap” to create constant carnage. All 4 of these guys leave this beat maimed, mangled and molested as they spit bars of furious fire. Kanye’s backdrop of hard hitting drums, and high pitched, perfectly placed strings is a smorgasbord for these emcees to feed off of. I can’t even post any of the rhymes because I could write verses about their verses alone.

Talib Kweli is one of the greatest lyricists on earth, and for any of you this album is a perfect introduction to his catalog (other than Reflection Eternal). I love this album, and I still listen to it on a constant basis, I don’t really need to say much other than that. This album has it all, beats that will leave you feeling amazed, and lyrics that will have you even more amazed.

9.5 Ridiculously Righteous Rhymes out of 10

Il 27 marzo 2009 esce  “Il caso dell’infedele Klara”, il nuovo film di Roberto Faenza (I Vicerè, Prendimi l’anima, Jona che visse nella balena). La colonna sonora è firmata da Gianni Venosta, ma la canzone del film e il tema principale sono del musicista, produttore e polistrumentista italiano Megahertz, da sempre specializzato in musica elettronica (un album all’attivo, collaboratore di Morgan, sta per partire in tour con Max Gazzè e ha remixato il tormentone “Pop Porno” de Il Genio). Il titolo è “Don’t leave me cold” e le cantano Laura Chiatti e Claudio Santamaria, che sono anche gli attori protagonisti del film. Oltre a “Don’t leave me cold”, tra le musiche del fim, Megahertz firma anche “Alone in the club”, un altro brano dal sapore elettronico e compare in alcune scene del film nel ruolo di se stesso. Si tratta di una vera collaborazione artistica, un progetto collettivo diverso dalle consuete logiche del business dell’entertainment: il videoclip di “Don’t leave me cold” realizzato da Filmac e montato da M. Lafayette non è un semplice collage di scene del film. Claudio Santamaria e Laura Chiatti hanno voluto unirsi a Megahertz e insieme hanno girato alcune scene in studio, ed esse sono diventate l’asse portante del video.Pride Records, la label di Megahertz, pubblicherà in contemporanea con l’uscita del film il cd singolo che conterrà entrambi i brani. Megahertz (www.myspace.com/megahertzspace) è uno degli alter ego musicali del 31enne Daniele Dupuis.  Attivo da anni nell’ambito della musica elettronica,  ha pubblicato l’album Estetica (Mescal/Sony), è un collaboratore storico di Morgan e ha creato con Coccoluto e Saturnino il progetto “Ménage a trois”

Ieri sera concerto di Max Gazzè, tournè teatrale “Casi Ciclici 2009″, Io, Teo e i nostri rispettivi fratelli, Beppe non è voluto venire, ed ora si starà mangiando sicuramente le mani, conoscendolo le starà abbinando con della senape dolce oppure del burro di arachidi… Il Nano aveva il cagone e quanto è vero che Max è stato bravo glielo ha fatto passare. Lo spettacolo è stato veramente interessante e coinvolgente, in quanto musicalmente e a parole Max è in grado di farti viaggiare per l’universo, non per trovar risposte, ma per dirti quello che c’è da fare, e quello che le cose possono fare…

SILVIA CATASTA (sembrava gnocca) flauto traverso e ottavino, pianoforte. Suona con l’Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano “Verdi”, con l’Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana e con molte altre formazioni sinfoniche e cameristiche.

La rivelazione, per me e Teo, è stata Megahertz, specialmente la canzone “Contaminata”, ascoltatela, è il primo video che troverete al seguente link, MEGAHERTZ. Un sound coinvolgente, tanto da far pronunciare a Teo: “Zio è un Fratello! Bella che storia, e tu pensa che esco di qua ed è Venerdì!!!”

No último domingo várias bandas participaram da eliminatória do PIPOP no antigo Via Libra e eu estava super presente torcendo pela Atun. Achei super competentes os shows do Megahertz e do Batuque Elétrico(apesar de não curtir o estilo de som das duas), e a Atun fez um show bem nervosão por conta do som miserável do evento. Acho que os meninos tem que botar mais pra fudê mesmo quando o som estiver um droga. Só a Ananda que parecia tentar contornar a situação caótica. Agora, é só ficar na torcida!!! .DDD

Damn, I can still remember the first time that I saw MHZ perform at the Nuyorican. He was also there when Vaz took down the Footworks flag for the last time and hung out with us the whole day.. Good Dude.

Today, at around 2pm, our dear friend, family member and musical collaborator Tero “CAMU TAO” Smith passed away in his home town of Columbus, Ohio. Tero had been quietly fighting for his life for the last year and a half after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

To those who knew Tero, he was an almost uncategorizable force of nature. Wild, hilarious, proud, loving, tough, outspoken, spontaneous and brilliant. He wore his heart on his sleeve and he dripped creativity, leaving inspiration and awe in the hearts and minds of anyone who was fortunate enough to see him work.

We, his friends and family, have truly had our collective hearts broken by his passing. Not only because of the loss of our friend, but because of the loss of his contribution to those who never knew what we knew about his talent and his potential. He was the secret that no one wanted to keep and we always knew that one day his vision and his heart could change music forever the way he changed all of our lives.

His departure from us all 1 month away from his 31st birthday is nothing less than a tragedy… nothing less than a crime. he was a gift to us all and he is irreplaceable. Rest in peace, Mu. We will love you forever. May god bless you and your family.
