We live in a world where people hide behind there true feelings and thoughts and are afraid to express themselves as is. They have to sugar coat what they think do and say.

Where Africans who who happen to be Ex – Slaves in America run around with muzzles on not able to express there thoughts. We allow the madness of being brain washed and forced fed hypocritical bigots rhetoric to be the rule of thumb. Who are you and what do you honor? Is Truth reality or is Fantasy your story? You accept what your punisher tells you as law! You have no time and place of your own to think freely, everything you do is within the confines of restriction.

When you finally break out the box of laws and restrictions and become the thoughts that are inside your mind than you will honestly be expressing your self correctly.

Do not be controlled by another person, monkey, cow, chicken, rat, simian, oppression, planned parent hood, history, television show, ministry, worship, religion, priest, cult, demand, word, persuasive argument and or people. This same person who don’t have you in his best interest because you are only learning one thing in this system and thats how to follow orders correctly. Slave is all you are and forever will be these are passed down by law:

Just to name a few

1675—An estimated 100,000 Africans are enslaved in the West Indies and another 5,000 are in British North America.

1676—Nathaniel Bacon leads an unsuccessful rebellion of whites and blacks against the English colonial government in Virginia.

1681—Maryland laws mandate that children of European servant women and African men are free.

1682—A new slave code in Virginia prohibits weapons for slaves, requires passes beyond the limits of the plantation and forbids self-defense by any African Americans against any European American.

1685—New York law forbids enslaved Africans and Native Americans from having meetings or carrying firearms.

1688—Quakers in Germantown, Pennsylvania denounce slavery in the first recorded formal protest in North America against the enslavement of Africans.

1690—By this year, all English colonies in America have enslaved Africans.

Enslaved Africans and Native Americans in Massachusetts plan a rebellion.

1692—The Virginia House of Burgesses enacts the Runaway Slave Law making it legal to kill a runaway in the course of apprehension.

1693—All fugitive Africans who have escaped slavery in the British colonies and fled to Florida are granted their freedom by the Spanish monarchy.

1694—The introduction of rice into the Carolina colony, ironically from West Africa, increases the need for labor for emerging plantations. This adds another factor to the economic justification and rationalization for expanding the slave trade.

I’ve been on a blog hiatus for quite some time. But I’m back and I’m really excited about sharing my experience on my last sales trip to Tennessee.

I have to admit I wasn’t feeling the greatest when I was on the start to this trip so while I was on my first half of the trip I really didn’t get a chance to experience much of Memphis. It is a very lively city with a bunch of history and music and under better circumstances I would of love to spend some time down on Beale st.

All said though this is one interesting place since thousands of visitors come visit the home of the King, Elvis Presley. There’s also a place where many people come to see the other King, the place of the assignation of Dr. Martin Luther King.

It’s a pretty sacred moment when you get the chance to stand in the spot where one of the greatest civil rights leaders and a true winner of the nobel peace prize was killed for what he believed in and fought for. It’s interesting to feel the history and see the replication of such a hallowed and sacred place and know it exists because of fear and hatred. It is a place that moves me to a deep place of contempation.

The location of the shooting, the Lorraine Motel, has been turned into a Civil Rights Museum to honour the memory of Dr. King. At first thought this would sound like a great and wonderful idea if it wasn’t for the 21 plus year protest of a single 106 lb African American woman who has consistently fought to keep the dream of Dr. King alive.

I guess it’s improtant to share that jacquline was one of the last low income residents to be evicted from her home at the Lorraine Motel years after the assignation of Dr. King. Since that day in 1989 she has vigilantly stood beside the motel living on the street corner of and blank to challenge the way we think we are honouring the dream.

Mrs. Smith fights against the millions of dollars poured into a tragic replica of the day Dr. King was shot. For 21 plus years she has lived homeless and fighting against the genetrification of the downtown arts core.

She argues that so much money shouldn’t be pushed into cleaning up the downtown to have it become an urban oasis for the middle class. It’s a move that she contends will marginalize and push the poor into a much worse place. They will no longer have the opportunity to stay near the downtown core to find work.

It’s somewhat funny that only 10 minutes away on the other side of the city that you’ll find brand subsidized housing by the hospital. It’s a really beautiful project.

I understand her stand against the millions of dollars poured into trying to keep the place where Dr. King was killed open to the public to keep his dream alive. is there not a public holiday every year to comemorate this man? Isn’t here many books and articles published about the life and teachings of Dr. King?

It makes me wonder if her effort couldn’t be better directed into something more pro-active. Sitting on a corner and sharing her story and fighting the gentrification of diwntown Memphis. 21 years, that is an incredibly long time to stay focused and strong for a cause. That is something you have to both admire and applaud. Jacquline’s actions do challenge contemplation and that is proactive for the freedom and dream of all people to be equal.

Meet Amber. She’s 8 years old, loves t-ball, wants to marry a cowboy and has a smile that can

Meet Amber. She’s 8 years old, loves t-ball, wants to marry a cowboy and has a smile that can light up a room. She also has rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of childhood cancer. And then there’s Tyron, a 3 year old who dances and sings to Gospel music with so much energy, you’d never guess he had Burkitt lymphoma.

These are just two of countless children who have been given a chance at life and the freedom to dream, thanks to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These are also some of the stories that make me realize just how much I have to be thankful for.

While visiting Memphis, I was given the opportunity to have one of my dreams fulfilled: to visit St. Jude. On Friday afternoon, it was arranged for Katy, Heidi, Emily and I to tour the hospital campus (Thank you, Mr. Branston!) and learn more about the amazing work that is done there. This organization is truly astounding. Treating 5,400 patients annually, St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where children are never denied treatment as a result of the family’s inability to pay – if insurance doesn’t cover it, the family doesn’t pay. St. Jude even goes a step further to provide meals and lodging for patients and their families during treatment – they take care of everything, giving these families a huge blessing by taking care of common necessities. Between that and their discoveries of life-saving treatments, St. Jude has become a beacon of hope to children and their families, standing on the premise that, “no child should die in the dawn of life.”

Brenna, our wonderful tour guide, answered our questions and showed us around with an evident enthusiasm and passion for St. Jude. As a result of daily operating costs near the $1.4 million range, St. Jude’s fundraising organization, ALSAC (American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities), along with the help of their partners, do a phenomenal job of making Danny Thomas’ dream live on (read his incredible story here).

Dream Visit!

Needless to say, the visit was one that will stick with me for a long time. For dealing with something so heavy and devastating as childhood cancer, the hospital really was a place of happiness and joy. While we didn’t get to see patients other than those in the lobbies and waiting rooms, it is clear that this is a place built on love – every tile, every employee, and every hopeful face of the children who walk through the front doors. As I sit in my room listening to the quiet kitchen chatter between my mom and brother, an Elon freshman home for Thanksgiving break, it’s easy to get quietly lost amid the many comforts I have: a warm bed, my laptop, closet jammed with clothing, and shelves full of books and DVDs… the list goes on and on. These are not necessary for survival by any means; yet far too often we see the blessings that go above and beyond what we deserve as things we have to have. Life, health, friends, family… why don’t we celebrate these things every day, instead of letting them be swept under the chaos of daily life?

As this holiday season comes around, I hope that we all take more than a moment to think about the grace we experience daily. And I hope you pass it on. Smile to a co-worker or classmate you don’t normally talk to, volunteer at your church, give to your favorite organization… Before you know it, you’ll be apart of something big.

Smile to a co-worker or classmate you don’t normally talk to, volunteer at your church, give to your favorite organization… Before you know it, you’ll be apart of something big.

When you go to the south and you come from the west you exchange a crystalline climatic simplicity f

When you go to the south and you come from the west you exchange a crystalline climatic simplicity for a descent into a landscape saturated in dripping mystery. Even in winter. Even when the trees are stripped bare and the grass is parched and brown.

Quite simply, it’s another world. Something about the outlines of things obscured so that you can’t easily identify what you are looking at.

Our little bed and breakfast inn was in the residential area of Memphis. We had made a conscious choice to expose ourselves to the rhythm and blues of Beale St and downtown only when it was dark and glamorous. The rest of the time we wanted immersion in a quintessentially southern residence.

Bridgestone House is just that but it wasn’t always. Once an old schoolhouse complete with high ceilings and tall windows and a potbellied stove in each of the schoolrooms it is now a particularly opulent version of southern hospitality. Which is a bit like saying it’s a particularly opulent version of southern opulence.

When you come from the west, the south can be confusing to look at. Apart from everything not being exactly what it seems, the southern way loves to cover every surface with carefully organized paraphernalia. Blank space is an affront to the southern eye.

In Bridgestone House there are knickknacks everywhere, layers of them, piles of them, festoons of them. There is a confusion of stuff. When you come from the wide-open plains this feels oppressive. At first.

When I stood in the doorway of our bedroom it took me a while to discern the four-poster bed. The room was dim, the wood was dark and everything was heavily padded and brocaded. And then of course there were the things…

I felt I would never get rest in there. I felt I might be compelled to lie awake counting the stuff, cataloging it as if ordering it would somehow dispel the clutter. It took awhile for my mind to collapse. The way an ungainly body would in a sagging chair.

I was sliding down some sort of rabbit hole. The open plains were up top and where I was going was dark like a womb. There was something deliciously regressive about it. Like death but without the bright light.

The south felt like being underwater. Not cold, inhospitable water, more like amniotic fluid. Floating weightless surrounded by stuff. None of the stuff had hard edges almost everything was covered in floral fabric. I was underwater in some upholstered floral womb.

I thought it was time for me to climb on the bed. There was nothing on its plain-like surface except bedding. I thought perhaps it could save me. I couldn’t get onto the bed without coming at it from a bit of a run.

Being on it was worth it though. I was afloat on a wide open plain in a sea of cluttered amniotic fluid. I was beginning to get into it.

Sleeping in the south is obviously something the south does well. Sleep or stages of it appear to be so revered that our hostess, who we didn’t know from Eve, entertained us in her nightgown. Granted it was not your average nightgown. It was not my nightgown either. This one was floor to ceiling midnight blue velvet. It made me think of whole days when you didn’t get dressed.

Not rushing is the thing in the south. You may not be sleeping but you are not rushing. If you are not in bed you are in your nightgown. Failing that you’re wearing something as elaborate as the décor that took hours, possibly days, to prepare.

In the south we ate lots of deepfried stuff quickly. And lots of double deep fried stuff. We tried to eat it all, a lifetime’s worth, so that we wouldn’t have to do it again. Ever. Southern deep fried comfort food is like that: yummy and then, within the next few bites, you’re cured.

We stayed two days. That’s all it took. There was this little table in the room, I found it eventually. The stuff it had on it I could use. I had left my fragrance at home. At least I had left the bottles there, my own peculiar fragrance insisted on following me wherever I went. The partly hidden table harbored the tail ends of the hostess’s passé perfumes.

I became heavily involved with some powerful deep magnolia ones. I think I was under some sort of spell. I wore them the entire time I was there. By the time I left I felt southern. I was okay with the endless layers of things. I knew it would take a lifetime to fathom them but that was fine with me.

When we got back to Colorado I looked for the trees. I looked for the forest. I couldn’t see the forest or the trees. The absence of mystery depressed me. There was nothing deep and smoky dark, nothing that would take me a lifetime to discern. In Colorado what you see is what you get. Unfortunately who I am is changed forever.

The Neocon Republican Terrorist vision of a divided and segregated America, where everybody that is

The Neocon Republican Terrorist vision of a divided and segregated America, where everybody that is not a white Anglo-saxon Christian is considered cannon fodder and trash, is coming to fruition. It is reminiscent of the reaction to the new population of freed slaves that the white former slave masters had after they were soundly defeated in the Civil War by the Union army.

This is the period in our history called Reconstruction where, for a decade after the Civil War,blacks gained political power, and some attained financial wealth as well.

During Reconstruction, southern whites turned violent when they saw blacks making major gains.

Reconstruction was followed in the South by domination by the Democratic Party and the enactment of Jim Crow laws, grandfather clauses and similar measures. The bitterness and repercussions from the heated conflicts of the era lasted well into the twentieth century.

Read more about the Reconstruction era here… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconstruction_era_of_the_United_States

Southern state governments quickly enacted the restrictive “black codes“. However, they were abolished in 1866 and seldom had effect, because the Freedman’s Bureau (not the local courts) handled the legal affairs of freedmen.

The Black Codes indicated the plans of the southern whites for the former slaves.[24] The freedmen would have more rights than did free blacks before the war, but they still had only a limited set of second-class civil rights, no voting rights, and, since they were not citizens, they could not own firearms, serve on a jury in a lawsuit involving whites or move about without employment.[25] The Black Codes would limit blacks’ ability to control their own employment. The Black Codes outraged northern opinion. They were overthrown by the Civil Rights Act of 1866 that gave the Freedmen full legal equality (except for the right to vote).[26

There were many reported murders of blacks in the south during reconstruction, but many killings of blacks went unreported, and by all accounts, millions upon millions of African-Americans were killed by the hands of bitter southerners, as reported in this account taken from Wikipedia by a soldier visiting from the North...

The number of murders and assaults perpetrated upon Negroes is very great; we can form only an approximate estimate of what is going on in those parts of the South which are not closely garrisoned, and from which no regular reports are received, by what occurs under the very eyes of our military authorities. As to my personal experience, I will only mention that during my two days sojourn at Atlanta, one Negro was stabbed with fatal effect on the street, and three were poisoned, one of whom died.

In todays modern post-racial world, we have organizations and groups that have a mission to keep track of, and to investigate the existence of, the number of racially motivated,or bias motivated crimes against minorities, religious groups, gay Americans.

Currently, America is going through another Reconstruction like era,as we are experiencing the racial backlash of hatred based on the election of our first black president,Barack Obama.

The election of Barack has caused a rise in all forms of hate crimes, as well as the emergence of the Ku Klux Klan as a force to stoke the flames of hatred and encouraging physical action of violence against blacks, Gays, and all other religious groups that are not Christian.

What is most distressing is that the tide of racial violence is being egged on and financed by the foreigner Rupert Murdoch, and the entire Republican party, that at one time represented the opposite of what they believe in now.

For a group that, centuries ago, used to be the main supporter of civil rights, they currently are the main driving force behind this increasing tide of racism and bigotry that is the rage in most of the states in America.

The racist are moving from the south, and invading the once liberal California, in order to spread their southern tradition of hatred and illiteracy. Hate crimes based on sexual orientation shot up 21 percent in Los Angeles County last year, while religious crimes increased 14 percent, because the southern bigots have moved in.

The Daily News in Los Angeles reports that...in 2008 in the Valley,James Shamp, an African-American man who worked as a janitor at a bowling alley in Canoga Park, was shot to death as he was throwing out trash. According to the report, three members of the Canoga Park Alabama gang, which has a long history of violent anti-black crimes, were arrested and charged with murder and hate crime enhancements.

The San Fernando Valley had the most amount of hate crimes in the Los Angeles area.

"Whenever I look at a map of hate crimes, I find there is a great diversity of hate crimes that occur in the San Fernando Valley," said Robin Toma, executive director of the commission. "You have anti-Semitic hate crimes, homophobic hate crimes and racially motivated hate crimes. There is also the phenomena of racialized gang violence."

Sexual orientation hate crimes rose the most last year, with more than 80 percent targeting gay men and at least nine crimes traced to Proposition 8.

A report on a sexually motivated hate crime from the Daily News... A white lesbian couple walking hand-in-hand on the beach in Malibu. The mother of a white tourist family from Arkansas told them, "You are going to burn in hell!" and dumped her water bottle on one of them and punched one in the face...

Please keep that level of ignorance in Arkansas,...and my family is from Arkansas.

The election of the first black president and hot-button issues such as abortion and gay marriage contributed to the spikes, anti-bias groups say. Public figures like Sarah Palin and Glen Beck have done a lot to cause the current racial hatred that whites are visiting on all others.

The two of them have been quite effective when it come to rallying sympathy for groups like the KKK and the Nazis.

USA TODAY is reporting that the number of attacks on blacks increased 8% to 2,876, accounting for seven of every 10 race-motivated crimes.

"There is this kind of extremism going on," says Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP Washington bureau. He says Obama's election and the recession led to a backlash against blacks as some people look for someone to blame for hard economic times. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-11-23-hate-crimes_N.htm

I say to the world, this is a good look at the so-called ''Post-Racial'' America, a country where race relations and the unity of the races has been usurped by the in vogue traditional American practice of racial bias, hatred and division.

Our country has been going through this cycle for well over a Hundred and 8o years, and by the looks of things, that sad tradition will continue.

What do we do to end this....will we come together, or will we have to resort to our primal instinct, where only the strong survive.

I think that based on 200 years of data and statistics, the tradition of racism is alive, well, and thriving in the United States, and that we are guilty of the same atrocities against humanity...our own people, that we so blatantly accuse our so-called enemies of doing to their minority populations.

We are all truly hypocrites.

Some of this week’s takeaways:

Given that the Celtics last year started out 27-3, that there is not one 2 loss team left this early in the season is kind of striking. The teams we expected to suck out loud (Grizzlies, Griffin-less Clippers, I’m looking at you) are actually just ordinarily mediocre.

A new #1 emerges in Portland. The Celtics slip to #3 on the strength (weakness) of a ghastly shooting night against the Magic and a very mediocre effort against the Knicks (and frankly, a fairly desultory one against the Warriors). As a fan, I was getting used to my Lester Hudson sightings.

Blazers winning on the strength of an efficient 6th ranked offense, which might not be highlighted by announcers because of their very slow tempo (2nd to last in the league). Their 2nd ranked defense has been a revelation too – Greg Oden is quietly having an outstanding season – and if he knew how to play without fouling, Bill Simmons’ homoerotic Kevin Durant love would be kind of unfounded.

Wow the Timberwolves are bad. With a good PG in Sessions and an interesting rookie in Flynn and a very capable post player, how they are so constipated offensively is hard to fathom. At least the Nets have been ravaged by injuries. (btw: how can Lawrence Frank be on the chopping block when his entire starting five and only all star has been hurt most of the season?)

Rockets are #6 still – and still, I am stunned.

Combating Crime

Memphis has made another list. This time, like a lot of times, it’s one of those lists that no one wants the city to have made. CQ Press goes through the FBI crime stats for 2008, looking at serious crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. While Camden, NJ is the most dangerous U.S. city, according to the list. Spot number 10 belongs to Memphis. You can see the entire list here.

#10 (with a bullet?)

The survey is sort of a “raw numbers” comparison, looking at the incidence of crime by population. The fact it doesn’t look at other factors has leaders in the cities that make the list complain that its too simplistic. Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin has said in the past months that the ongoing Blue Crush initiative has made strides in making the city a safer place. Whenever you’re dealing with statistical information, you can get nearly any type of answer you’re looking for. No one knows who said it first, but Mark Twain said it best: “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

It’s hard to say whether Memphis is truly the 10th most dangerous city in the United States. There are parts of the city where I wouldn’t want to linger, even in the middle of the day. On the other hand, there are parts of town where I feel comfortable walking well into the night. That’s something that’s probably the case in most places. There have been a more than a few stories on the evening news of late that remind us of the crime problems our city suffers. There’s no easy answer. More police could help. Citizens being a little more careful and concerned about their surroundings would be good too.

Keeps your eyes open. It could help.

Pastner has already made a name nationally, after his team took No. 1 Kansas to the wire last week.

There’s a great read on him at SI.com. I’m a fan of precocious workaholics who know what they want out of life, and that fits Pastner to a T.

Normally you watch your system for a few games to see if it works. But I’m just jumping in and using it, so here it goes.

There weren’t any games I could as they were tonight so I decided to use a teaser which the system did accept. Keep in mind that while I’m sharing my SU and O/U picks, the spread is the only thing my system tells me about so that is what I’m actually betting on.

4pt teaser:

CHI vs POR; POR -3, o-184

MIN vs LAC; LAC -1.5, o-191.5

I like both of those picks. The system also called the Bucks covering their +9 point spread against San Antonio, and I normally would take that but with Redd and Bogut out I’m just not comfortable with making that call. 9 points is a lot and I really think the Spurs are overrated here, but with two of their stars out and Redd expecting to return shortly, I could see the Bucks tanking this one.

The latest can to be kicked around the jazz blogosphere (and beyond) is what records make the cut as the best of the decade.

As much as we enjoy the opportunity to reminisce about our first seven-plus years in business, and the 135 recordings we promoted for our clients in that span, we’re not quite ready to dip a toe in that nearly bottomless pool just yet.

But, we’re more than happy to shine a light on the recordings we promoted for our clients in 2009 (in order of their release).

Hopefully at least a few of these will end up on your year’s best list or at least your list for Santa.
