 Pues bien el despliegue de 4G estaba en un estado de hibernación debido a que los operadores, a mi juicio sabiamente, estaban esperando la liberación de la banda de 800 GHz por parte de los operadores  de TV. Según la Agenda Digital del Gobierno, aprobada el 15 de Febrero, esta liberación se iba a realizar el 1 de enero de 2014, lo que permitió al Ministro de Industria, José Manuel Soria, anunciar el adelanto del despliegue de LTE de 2015 a 2014, con el consiguiente alborozo de todas las partes implicadas, incluido el sector laboral, debido a la creación de empleo. Sin embargo, este prometedor plan sufrió un varapalo, debido a que una sentencia del Tribunal Supremo deja invalidado un reparto de canales de TDT a los operadores de TV realizado en 2010, y estos, en contrapartida han dicho, poco más o menos, que si el Gobierno quiere LTE, tendrá que resolver su problema primero.

 Y cómo lo ha resuelto el Gobierno, pues el Consejo de Ministros el 22 de Marzo, ha tomado la vía brava y ha decidido la desaparición de los nueve canales de TDT en litigio para dejar espacio libre al LTE, por lo que se prevé una dura lucha entre los operadores de TV y el Gobierno.

 Pero volvamos a nuestros operadores móviles/autos locos de la Cannonball. El anuncio del Ministro Soria y todas las acciones posteriores han supuesto el pistoletazo de salida de la carrera por el LTE. Pero como no están libres las frecuencias de 800 MHz, pues desplegamos en 1800 MHz. Y esto es lo que han hecho tanto Orange como Yoigo, que han anunciado sendos despliegues de LTE, e incluso, en el caso de Orange, un servicio comercial en otoño de 2013.

 El despliegue de una red LTE a nivel nacional en España de un operador con una cuota de mercado del 25 %, y un factor de simultaneidad de usuarios del 2 %  para proporcionar un servicio de calidad razonable en banda ancha móvil en la frecuencia de 1800 MHz, supera con creces los 500 Millones de Euros, lo cual es una inversión nada desdeñable.

 El caso de Yoigo puede llegar a ser entendible. Tiene que invertir 180 Millones de Euros en infraestructura en el 2013 debido a compromisos con la administración, por lo tanto lo hace en la tecnología más eficiente disponible, LTE. Sin embargo Orange (y el resto de operadores) están involucrados en el despliegue de FTTH donde se está hablando de inversiones de otros 500 millones de euros en tres años.

Por otro lado, a día de hoy, LTE no tiene lo que se denomina “Killer Application”, es decir, no hay un servicio de alta capacidad demandado por los usuarios que justifique el despliegue, al menos en España. Si a esto le unimos la caída de los ingresos en las comunicaciones móviles (los últimos datos de la CMT indican que los ingresos en el último trimestre de 2012 son un 10% menos que los correspondientes al año 2011), que según el informe de la consultora Arthur D. Little, estos seguirán cayendo a un ritmo del 1.8% anual hasta 2016 (http://goo.gl/C6rM9), y que para que haya una recuperación se precisa que LTE produzca 17 euros mensuales por usuario (7 euros mensuales más que el valor medio actual en comunicaciones móviles de banda ancha), pues el panorama no es muy esperanzador.

 En definitiva, en un panorama de crisis, donde los ingresos de los operadores de telecomunicaciones están cayendo significativamente y los operadores están abriendo demasiados frentes de inversión. Puede ser una huida hacia delante donde al final acabemos con una concentración de mercado en pocos (es posible que 2 o 3) operadores convergentes debido a que los demás hayan sido expulsados del mercado (al estilo de lo que ha ocurrido con las aerolíneas low-cost). En todo caso la carrera ha empezado y esperemos que los participantes se muestren más juiciosos que los locos de la Cannonball, por el bien del sector.

En el siguiente post conoceremos un producto que nos ha ofrecido el profesor de la asignatura de diseño y producto en su apartado web de la asignatura. En este caso no hablaré del producto, ya que no dispongo de él, pero sí de la idea.

Seguramente la mayoría de la gente se fije en la forma y la practicidad de los productos, pero creo que lo más importante es la función. El mercado está plagado de productos, algunos de ellos no resuelven ningún inconveniente de la vida, por lo tanto no son ni prácticos, ni funcionales, ni útiles.
