<title><![CDATA[The Paul Smith Jag eight years later ]]></title>

<p>He ‘personalised’ an X-Type Jaguar which was subsequently sold for £40,000 to City banker Zoe Appleyard and her friend Maya Schonburg.</p>

<p>A huge cast of stars from Kylie to Sir Elton John were at the auction and they all got a jolly warm glow as well as raising over £200,000 in total for a brilliant cause. <p>And I saw the very car today, complete with lookalike Paul Smith (P5) numberplate.</p>
<p>The PS stripes look great on his <a title="Paul Smith Water for Evian" href="http://www.paulsmithforevian.evian.com/" target="_blank">Evian Water</a> bottles, but automotive design changes faster than any other I know. What works know may look very dated in five years and awful a few years at the time. The Austin Metro even looked okay at one time and that time was it’s time. It looked even better with a bit of high class Burberry branding added. Hmmmmm.</p>

<p>I’m not sure how well the stripes look on the Jag now. In fact I think they look a bit horrid, so for the sake of ongoing brand values, it may have been a good idea to have a time limit on its branding, for say, five years, before any trace of it was removed and the car de-branded.</p>
<p>That time has now passed and so for me should the Paul Smith branding on this car, which only serves to look a bit garish and dated.</p>

<p>Simon Dare commented that the car is now owned by Paul Smith again and is driven by their Finance Director. Poor bugger. It&#8217;s going to be difficult to hide in that car isn&#8217;t it!</p>
<p>Rob Marshall also commented below that the Paul Smith Mini still looked good. I’m not so sure myself, but it takes all sorts. The link he put through is this car here.</p>

<p>Which is a very limited edition of around 2 cars according the Paul Smith Mini <a title="Paul Smith Mini" href="http://www.paulsmithmini.co.uk" target="_blank">website</a>.</p>
<p>This car had 84 stripes made up of 24 different colours and had to have been hand made.</p>
<p>There then followed a less limited edition Paul Smith car where 300 were made in a special blue colour and they were luxurious for a Mini! Madly british with gold plated UK bonnet badge and hidden lime green detailing, I would say this looks like a real classic if you can get your hands on one in good condition.</p>
<p>Here’s one of the 300, which I think is far more discreet and tasteful!</p>

<p>Anyway, if anyone knows of any other good designer branded cars, let me know. I don’t want to know about the car that Stephen Ireland ‘customised’ for his girlfriend. It’s a monstrosity of a Bentley!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>As the book &#8216; Springtime for Germany: or How I learned to Love lederhosen&#8217;  discusses, I decided to spend my holidays in Germany. After hiring a car in Düsseldorf, we drove 1800 km around Deutschland, including Hambur, Celler, Braunsweig, Melzungen, and visiting the 2009 edition of the IAA in Frankfurt.</p>
<p>I have been present in the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles between nearly all the main automobile manufacturers and I would like to share the images that have shocked me more. I hope you enjoy them aswell, you have still time to visit the Messe until next weekend.</p>

<p>Il y a des voitures qui font rêver n&#8217;importe quel amateur de belle mécanique: la Bugatti Veyron, la Mercedes SLR, n&#8217;importe quelle Lamborghini ou Ferrari, ou encore la monstrueuse <strong>Audi R8</strong>.</p>
<p>Coupé aux lignes agressives et au moteur survitaminé, la R8 sera dévoilée en version<strong> Spyder</strong> (comprenez pas de toit et seulement 2 places, type roadster) au Salon de l&#8217;Auto de Francfort, lors duquel de plus amples informations seront communiquées.</p>
<p>De quoi donner des sueurs froides à ses concurrentes, des larmes de joie à ses fans, et un modèle à placer discrètement dans le parc automobile de Tony Starks aux producteurs d&#8217;<strong>Iron Man 2</strong>.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Dia de estreno]]></title>

<p>Suena el maldito despertador del móvil y a regañadientes me levanto, maldita sea, el concierto de Vetusta Morla en Ejea de los Caballeros y el viaje de vuelta me han dejado destrozado (fui a hacer fotos, no de juerga, malpensados).<br />
Una ducha despejante, muda limpia (que es domingo y encima vamos de estreno!!) un repaso al material fotográfico que voy a llevarme y bajo a la calle a coger mi C4.</p>
<p>Arranco y pongo rumbo a Alcañiz (Teruel), unos cuantos kilómetros me separan de un acontecimiento sin precedentes en Aragón.</p>
<p>Todos los amantes de los deportes de motor, en cualquiera de sus variantes, teníamos una cita con esta fecha.<br />
En principio nada la hace especial si no fuera porque en ese día, se inauguró el circuito de velocidad <a href="http://www.motorlandaragon.com" target="_blank">Motorland</a>, la <a href="http://www.motorlandaragon.com" target="_blank"> Ciudad del Motor de Aragón </a>.</p>
<p>Tras la desparición del antiguo circuito urbano &#8220;Guadalope&#8221; de Alcañiz (tras una decisión &#8220;dolorosa&#8221; según palabras de Carlos Gracia, presidente de la <a href="http://www.rfeda.es/" target="_blank">Real Federación Española de Automovilismo</a>), el <a href="http://www.circuitoguadalope.org/" target="_blank">Automovil Club Circuito Guadalope</a>, con su presidente Jesús Vaquero a la cabeza se puso en marcha para dotar a Alcañiz y a Aragón de lo que jamás se les debió de arrebatar.</p>
<p>Y el empeño de esos hombres y mujeres, junto con el de el <a href="http://www.aragon.es" target="_blank">Gobierno de Aragón</a> dió sus frutos y ayer dieron a conocer al mundo entero de lo que somos capaces por estas tierras.</p>
<p>A las 9 de la mañana llegaba al &#8220;Welcome&#8221; de Motorland, como ya me acredité el viernes no tuve que guardar cola ni perder más tiempo, así que me fui directo al Parking nº 2 que pertenecía al de los medios acreditados.</p>

<p>La verdad es que Motorland impone, y lo hace por varias cosas, lo primero por su diversidad, hay a disposición del público una serie de circuitos <a href="http://www.motorlandaragon.com/indexTierra.aspx" target="_blank">como los de tierra</a> en los que se puede practicar diversas disciplinas deportivas como son el Motocross (el único circuito de arena de toda España), el Supermotard (con circuito mixto asfalto-tierra), el Autocross y el Dirt-track.<br />
También tenemos a nuestra disposición el <a href="http://www.motorlandaragon.com/indexKarting.aspx" target="_blank">circuito de karting</a> y una zona de alquiler de karts con circuito propio.</p>
<p>Pero la estrella, la obra faraónica, modélica y la que nos congregó ayer es el <a href="http://www.motorlandaragon.com/indexVelocidad.aspx" target="_blank">Circuito de Velocidad</a>.<br />
Diseñado conjuntamente por el germano Hermann Tilke y <a href="http://www.pedrodelarosa.com/castellano/index.php" target="_blank">Pedro Martínez de la Rosa</a>, tiene una longitud total de 5345 metros y una recta espectacular de 1726 metros, posee 4 configuraciones diferentes dependiendo de la competición a disputar y unas instalaciones que son la envidia de muchos otros circuitos.<br />
Tiene homologación <a href="http://www.fia.com/en-GB/Pages/HomePage.aspx" target="_blank">FIA</a> para entrenamientos de <a href="http://www.formula1.com/" target="_blank">F1</a>, homologación <a href="http://www.fim-live.com/en/" target="_blank">FIM</a> para pruebas de <a href="http://www.motogp.com/" target="_blank">MotoGP</a>, de echo, para la temporada 2010 va a ser circuito reserva para esta competición (cruzaremos los dedos, ójala!!!) y según los rumores, el nuevo equipo estadounidense <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/USGPE" target="_blank">USF1</a> lo baraja como su sede en Europa.</p>
<p>Su larga recta también lo hace perfecto para pruebas de aerodinámica y la verdad, no me extraña, tuve la suerte el jueves de dar varias vueltas al trazado y se te ponen los pelos como escarpias cuando terminas de trazar la curva 11 y ves la impresionante bajada y la recta que vienen después.</p>

<p>Otra cosa por las que Motorland impone es por el increíble equipo humano que lo gestiona.</p>
<p>Ayer era el día perfecto para que se organizara el caos absoluto durante la inauguración. Políticos junto a su correspondiente personal de protocolo y seguridad, <a href="http://www.pedrodelarosa.com/castellano/index.php" target="_blank">Pedro Martínez de la Rosa</a>, invitados, prensa y además jornada de puertas abiertas eran el caldo de cultivo excepcional que pusieron a prueba a un increíble equipo humano que funcionó a la perfección.</p>
<p>Desde aquí quiero agradecer a Tomé Alfonso, director del circuito y a todo su equipo, Chema y David como responsables de prensa, por no tratarnos como a borregos (no como en otros sitios, ejem&#8230;.), a Neus y Sandra por tener siempre una sonrisa en la boca cuando les preguntabas o solicitabas algo y al resto del equipo (perdonad, pero no me acuerdo de los nombres de todos!!!) por pasar ayer la prueba de fuego con un sobresaliente, desde aquí, mi más sincera enhorabuena, lo único os pediría que por favor, cambiad los colgantes de las acreditaciones, en un día de viento como el viernes hace que el pase se enrolle y en algunos momentos piensas que va a cortarte el cuello, arrg!!, jajajaja (aunque creo que comenté ésto con David el domingo y tomó buena nota de ello).</p>

<p>Como ya digo, la inauguración discurrió sin problemas, tras unos minutos de espera (igual que en una boda se espera a la novia) el Presidente de Aragón, D. Marcelino Iglesias llegaba al parking VIP de Motorland, allí le esperaban el Vicepresidente del Gobierno de Aragón, D. Jose Angel Biel, el Presidente de la Federación Española de Automovilismo, D. Carlos Gracia, la Alcaldesa del Excmo. Ayuntamiento de Alcañiz, Dña. Amor Pascual y un nutrido grupo de representantes deportivos, políticos etc&#8230;.</p>

<p>Tras descubrir la placa que conmemoraba la inauguración, pasamos a visitar la sala de control de dirección de carrera, algo realmente impresionante, 41 cámaras controlan todo lo que ocurre en el circuito, y 4 pantallas gigantes permiten al director de carrera y comisarios ver en todo momento con más detalle y a tiempo real los detalles con mejor óptica, a la vez que se dispone de la visión de los datos aportados por la estación metereológica propia.</p>

<p>Tras la visita a esta parte salimos al Pit-Lane donde Marcelino Iglesias ayudó a la viuda del Sr. Repollés (fundador del Circuito Guadalope) a descubrir una placa de agradecimiento por su labor, lo cual le llenó de emoción, al igual que al resto de la familia allí congregada.</p>

<p>Después, otra placa (y ya van 3!!!) esta vez, en recta de meta, remachada sobre un trozo de un viejo guardarraíl perteneciente al ya extinto Circuito Guadalope, en el que se agradece a los voluntarios y trabajadores que año tras año trabajaban sin descanso para montar y desmontar el circuito, organizar la prueba, atender a los medios, comisarios de pista, banderas, etc&#8230;.</p>

<p>Tras la tercera placa descubierta, vino el corte de cinta y la entrega de placas de agradecimiento, que fueron a parar a representantes del Circuito Guadalope, representantes de los voluntarios, a Jesús Vaquero, presidente del Automóvil Club Circuito Guadalope, a Carlos Gracia como presidente de la Real Federación Española de Automovilismo (el cual, dejó de nuevo la placa sobre la mesa tras recibir una sonora pitada por parte de un pequeño grupo de la grada principal), etc.. etc&#8230;</p>

Mediante un sorteo, 4 espectadores pudieron disfrutar de una vuelta como copilotos al trazado montados en un Mercedes SLR de 600 cv pilotado por Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, y vaya si disfrutaron!!!.<br />
Decir que al final de cada vuelta, el SLR venía con los frenos echando humo, el cual aumentaba cuánto más rato estaba parado en Pit-Lane para realizar el cambio de copiloto, tanto, que Chema, el responsable de prensa nos pidió por favor a los medios gráficos que no entretuviéramos la operación de cambio para no abrasarlos del todo.<br />
Bueno, ahi veis como acabaron las llantas del SLR (y creo que la ropa interior de alguno de los afortunados también terminó de un color parecido).</p>

<p>Tras las vueltas, las preguntas a Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, el cual, puedo atestiguar que es un tio llano tal y como parece en la tele, contestó a todas las preguntas que se le hicieron (si, hasta a que si Lewis Hamilton iba a venir a rodar a Motorland, a la cual contestó con un &#8220;sabía que me ibais a hacer esa pregunta, pero será mejor que se lo pregunteis a él&#8221;), aunque bueno, hubo una pregunta que no contestó, la que le hice cuando íbamos a hacernos una foto juntos (Gracias Javier) y en la que le preguntaba acerca de cuantas veces le han entrado ganas de mandar a Antonio Lobato a tomar viento&#8230;. no me contestó, solo me miró y soltó una carcajada.</p>

<p>Y poca cosa más que destacar, salvo el buen rollo que hubo entre unos y otros compañeros, el mal rollo que se originó a veces porque TODOS queríamos sacar la foto buena y nos daba igual a quien tuviéramos a un lado-delante-detrás-encima-debajo, el sol que nos azotó de lo lindo (y yo con más de 8 gorras en el coche, que majas estaban ahí), lo bien que funcionaba el Media Shuttle para ir llevándonos a todos los fotógrafos y cámaras por el circuito, lo que se enrollaron los comisarios de pista del puesto 12 dándonos agua a unos cuantos fotógrafos y cámaras que estábamos secos y lo bien que lo pasamos todos juntos, trabajando, pero a gusto oye (que ganas tenía de contar el chiste de que a Rossi de Palma hay que hacerle los retratos de f:11 para arriba y que alguien lo entendiera, juas!)</p>
<p>Ya tengo ganas de la siguiente..</p>
<p>PD: si, estoy de acuerdo con no llamar &#8220;Sacacorchos&#8221; a las curvas en lazadas de la parte alta del trazado, habría que darle un nombre aragonés, verdad Javier Pellicer?? <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

This rocket looking concept came out this year and is a new addition to the Mercedes &#8211; Mclaren Family.</p>
<p>Limited to 75 units and priced at 750,000 euros, the SLR Stirling Moss is reserved for only the most discriminating connoisseur. Most of the potential buyers for this crazy fast race car will likely know the history of the name SLR and Stirling Moss. In 1950 the SLR 300 raced into victory at both the Mile Miglia and the Targa Florio. Among the great drivers who raced in the SLR 300, one stood out most and earned this new rocket&#8217;s title. The British race car driver; Stirling Moss still holds the Mile Miglia record at: 10 hours 7 minutes and 48 seconds.</p>
<p>The Body: Made to be reminiscent of the SLR 300, the SLR Stirling Moss has no windshield as well as no roof. It is designed to give the ultimate driving experience. This baby is not designed to race but design for those with more unique needs.</p>
<p>Under the Hood: The Stirling Moss gives the driver a fast and exhilarating driving feel using its V8 Supercharged engine producing 650hp . This car will take you to heaven and back accelerating from stop to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 350km/h.</p>
<p>My Thoughts: If Mercedes was trying to build an aggressive looking car with a reminiscent 1950 SLR 300 feel then they hit their goal right on the mark. Whichever lucky bastard gets their hands on this beauty can rest assured that there won&#8217;t be anything like it on the road. The performance output sounds amazing and is faster than anything we&#8217;ve got on the road. All in all I&#8217;d say Mercedes hit the jackpot with the SLR Stirling Moss and probably redeemed themselves from the disappointingly mediocre SLR.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Last night my wife Andrea did make-up for a fashion show held at a private car club called Luxautica. Luxautica is a private car club that has memberships that start at $10,000 and go all the way up to $100,000. With a membership you are able to use the ultra exotic cars without the cost of ownership, upkeep and insurance. Luxautica is actually an old art gallery at the Mall at Millenia that has been converted to a private showroom and club areas for members only. The members are also encouraged to use the club for private functions and events.</p>
<p>Andrea&#8217;s make up that she did on the models was great but the highlight for me of course were the cars. I just love cars and these are exotics you don&#8217;t see on the road everyday. Exotics such as the $1.7 mill. Bugatti Veyron, the $1 mill. Mercedes McLaren SLR, the $800,000 Ferrari Enzo and of course always a crowd pleaser, the $350,000 Rolls Royce Phantom. These were only a few of the cars in attendance in the showroom. It was a car lovers dream. Unfortunately that will probably be the only time I will be allowed into this members only club. But just seeing these cars up close is enough for me. Luxautica, kind of like &#8220;car heaven&#8221;!</p>
