In 2001, Paul Smith, the stunningly cool fashion designer put his name to a project with Jaguar to raise money for Macmillan cancer relief.

He ‘personalised’ an X-Type Jaguar which was subsequently sold for £40,000 to City banker Zoe Appleyard and her friend Maya Schonburg.

A huge cast of stars from Kylie to Sir Elton John were at the auction and they all got a jolly warm glow as well as raising over £200,000 in total for a brilliant cause. You can read the full story here.

And I saw the very car today, complete with lookalike Paul Smith (P5) numberplate.

The PS stripes look great on his Evian Water bottles, but automotive design changes faster than any other I know. What works know may look very dated in five years and awful a few years at the time. The Austin Metro even looked okay at one time and that time was it’s time. It looked even better with a bit of high class Burberry branding added. Hmmmmm.

I’m not sure how well the stripes look on the Jag now. In fact I think they look a bit horrid, so for the sake of ongoing brand values, it may have been a good idea to have a time limit on its branding, for say, five years, before any trace of it was removed and the car de-branded.

That time has now passed and so for me should the Paul Smith branding on this car, which only serves to look a bit garish and dated.

Simon Dare commented that the car is now owned by Paul Smith again and is driven by their Finance Director. Poor bugger. It’s going to be difficult to hide in that car isn’t it!

Rob Marshall also commented below that the Paul Smith Mini still looked good. I’m not so sure myself, but it takes all sorts. The link he put through is this car here.

Which is a very limited edition of around 2 cars according the Paul Smith Mini website.

This car had 84 stripes made up of 24 different colours and had to have been hand made.

There then followed a less limited edition Paul Smith car where 300 were made in a special blue colour and they were luxurious for a Mini! Madly british with gold plated UK bonnet badge and hidden lime green detailing, I would say this looks like a real classic if you can get your hands on one in good condition.

As the book ‘ Springtime for Germany: or How I learned to Love lederhosen’  discusses, I decided to spend my holidays in Germany. After hiring a car in Düsseldorf, we drove 1800 km around Deutschland, including Hambur, Celler, Braunsweig, Melzungen, and visiting the 2009 edition of the IAA in Frankfurt.

I have been present in the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles between nearly all the main automobile manufacturers and I would like to share the images that have shocked me more. I hope you enjoy them aswell, you have still time to visit the Messe until next weekend.

Coupé aux lignes agressives et au moteur survitaminé, la R8 sera dévoilée en version Spyder (comprenez pas de toit et seulement 2 places, type roadster) au Salon de l’Auto de Francfort, lors duquel de plus amples informations seront communiquées.

Domingo 6 de Septiembre de 2009, 8 de la mañana.

Suena el maldito despertador del móvil y a regañadientes me levanto, maldita sea, el concierto de Vetusta Morla en Ejea de los Caballeros y el viaje de vuelta me han dejado destrozado (fui a hacer fotos, no de juerga, malpensados).
Una ducha despejante, muda limpia (que es domingo y encima vamos de estreno!!) un repaso al material fotográfico que voy a llevarme y bajo a la calle a coger mi C4.

Arranco y pongo rumbo a Alcañiz (Teruel), unos cuantos kilómetros me separan de un acontecimiento sin precedentes en Aragón.

Todos los amantes de los deportes de motor, en cualquiera de sus variantes, teníamos una cita con esta fecha.
En principio nada la hace especial si no fuera porque en ese día, se inauguró el circuito de velocidad Motorland, la Ciudad del Motor de Aragón .

Tras la desparición del antiguo circuito urbano “Guadalope” de Alcañiz (tras una decisión “dolorosa” según palabras de Carlos Gracia, presidente de la Real Federación Española de Automovilismo), el Automovil Club Circuito Guadalope, con su presidente Jesús Vaquero a la cabeza se puso en marcha para dotar a Alcañiz y a Aragón de lo que jamás se les debió de arrebatar.

Y el empeño de esos hombres y mujeres, junto con el de el Gobierno de Aragón dió sus frutos y ayer dieron a conocer al mundo entero de lo que somos capaces por estas tierras.

A las 9 de la mañana llegaba al “Welcome” de Motorland, como ya me acredité el viernes no tuve que guardar cola ni perder más tiempo, así que me fui directo al Parking nº 2 que pertenecía al de los medios acreditados.

La verdad es que Motorland impone, y lo hace por varias cosas, lo primero por su diversidad, hay a disposición del público una serie de circuitos como los de tierra en los que se puede practicar diversas disciplinas deportivas como son el Motocross (el único circuito de arena de toda España), el Supermotard (con circuito mixto asfalto-tierra), el Autocross y el Dirt-track.
También tenemos a nuestra disposición el circuito de karting y una zona de alquiler de karts con circuito propio.

Pero la estrella, la obra faraónica, modélica y la que nos congregó ayer es el Circuito de Velocidad.
Diseñado conjuntamente por el germano Hermann Tilke y Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, tiene una longitud total de 5345 metros y una recta espectacular de 1726 metros, posee 4 configuraciones diferentes dependiendo de la competición a disputar y unas instalaciones que son la envidia de muchos otros circuitos.
Tiene homologación FIA para entrenamientos de F1, homologación FIM para pruebas de MotoGP, de echo, para la temporada 2010 va a ser circuito reserva para esta competición (cruzaremos los dedos, ójala!!!) y según los rumores, el nuevo equipo estadounidense USF1 lo baraja como su sede en Europa.

Su larga recta también lo hace perfecto para pruebas de aerodinámica y la verdad, no me extraña, tuve la suerte el jueves de dar varias vueltas al trazado y se te ponen los pelos como escarpias cuando terminas de trazar la curva 11 y ves la impresionante bajada y la recta que vienen después.

Otra cosa por las que Motorland impone es por el increíble equipo humano que lo gestiona.

Ayer era el día perfecto para que se organizara el caos absoluto durante la inauguración. Políticos junto a su correspondiente personal de protocolo y seguridad, Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, invitados, prensa y además jornada de puertas abiertas eran el caldo de cultivo excepcional que pusieron a prueba a un increíble equipo humano que funcionó a la perfección.

Desde aquí quiero agradecer a Tomé Alfonso, director del circuito y a todo su equipo, Chema y David como responsables de prensa, por no tratarnos como a borregos (no como en otros sitios, ejem….), a Neus y Sandra por tener siempre una sonrisa en la boca cuando les preguntabas o solicitabas algo y al resto del equipo (perdonad, pero no me acuerdo de los nombres de todos!!!) por pasar ayer la prueba de fuego con un sobresaliente, desde aquí, mi más sincera enhorabuena, lo único os pediría que por favor, cambiad los colgantes de las acreditaciones, en un día de viento como el viernes hace que el pase se enrolle y en algunos momentos piensas que va a cortarte el cuello, arrg!!, jajajaja (aunque creo que comenté ésto con David el domingo y tomó buena nota de ello).

Sssssshhhhh!!! silencio, estos chicos están concentrados en hacer bien su trabajo.

Mil cosas que controlar, mil personas que atender, mil detalles que cuidar.

Como ya digo, la inauguración discurrió sin problemas, tras unos minutos de espera (igual que en una boda se espera a la novia) el Presidente de Aragón, D. Marcelino Iglesias llegaba al parking VIP de Motorland, allí le esperaban el Vicepresidente del Gobierno de Aragón, D. Jose Angel Biel, el Presidente de la Federación Española de Automovilismo, D. Carlos Gracia, la Alcaldesa del Excmo. Ayuntamiento de Alcañiz, Dña. Amor Pascual y un nutrido grupo de representantes deportivos, políticos etc….

Tras descubrir la placa que conmemoraba la inauguración, pasamos a visitar la sala de control de dirección de carrera, algo realmente impresionante, 41 cámaras controlan todo lo que ocurre en el circuito, y 4 pantallas gigantes permiten al director de carrera y comisarios ver en todo momento con más detalle y a tiempo real los detalles con mejor óptica, a la vez que se dispone de la visión de los datos aportados por la estación metereológica propia.

“Ala, inaugurado, nos ha quedado majo eh Marcelino?.”

“Y dices que desde aquí puedes ver todos los canales de la TDT a la vez? el del futbol también?.”

Tras la visita a esta parte salimos al Pit-Lane donde Marcelino Iglesias ayudó a la viuda del Sr. Repollés (fundador del Circuito Guadalope) a descubrir una placa de agradecimiento por su labor, lo cual le llenó de emoción, al igual que al resto de la familia allí congregada.

“Que no señora, yo no soy el entrenador del Real Zaragoza, ese es Marcelino García Toral.”

Después, otra placa (y ya van 3!!!) esta vez, en recta de meta, remachada sobre un trozo de un viejo guardarraíl perteneciente al ya extinto Circuito Guadalope, en el que se agradece a los voluntarios y trabajadores que año tras año trabajaban sin descanso para montar y desmontar el circuito, organizar la prueba, atender a los medios, comisarios de pista, banderas, etc….

“Tres placas llevamos ya, estamos que lo bordamos eh, oooole!!!”

Tras la tercera placa descubierta, vino el corte de cinta y la entrega de placas de agradecimiento, que fueron a parar a representantes del Circuito Guadalope, representantes de los voluntarios, a Jesús Vaquero, presidente del Automóvil Club Circuito Guadalope, a Carlos Gracia como presidente de la Real Federación Española de Automovilismo (el cual, dejó de nuevo la placa sobre la mesa tras recibir una sonora pitada por parte de un pequeño grupo de la grada principal), etc.. etc…

“Jesús, mira lo que dice aquel, que si nos arrancamos un chotis….”

“Eh tu, que te he oído!!.”

Y después…. los discursos, os lo cuento? no verdad? bueno, ya pongo algunas fotos pero ya os podéis imaginar de lo que hablaron, no?
Me llamó la atención las ganas de continuar de Jose Angel Biel, el cual anunció que se tenía que construir el edificio de ocio que va junto a la recta principal, diseñado por Norman Foster y alguna sorpresa más ya que…. su mente no para (increíble este hombre).

“Maldita sea, se me ha borrado la chuleta que llevaba escrita en la palma de la mano por el sudor.”

“YooooOOoo??.” “Si tu hijo, que te lias a licitar obras y esto es un no parar…”

“Lo importante es que hagamos las cosas con Amor”

“…..y si Biel dice que aquí va el edificio del Norman Foster pues es que va aquí y punto pelota.”

Tras los correspondientes discursos, saludo y foto oficial con una representación de pilotos aragoneses para después, realizar una visita a la parte superior del edificio principal para ver una maqueta de todo el complejo Motorland, con sus circuitos, zona de I+D, zona de ocio, etc…..

“Espera, que te corto ese padrastro que llevas ahí.”

“Daros prisa con las fotos, que viene oscuro por ahi detrás!!!.”

“Te he dicho que quiero los columpios jústamente ahí.” – “Ahi?? a que te caen dos galletas!!!”

Y después…. el espectáculo!
Mediante un sorteo, 4 espectadores pudieron disfrutar de una vuelta como copilotos al trazado montados en un Mercedes SLR de 600 cv pilotado por Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, y vaya si disfrutaron!!!.
Decir que al final de cada vuelta, el SLR venía con los frenos echando humo, el cual aumentaba cuánto más rato estaba parado en Pit-Lane para realizar el cambio de copiloto, tanto, que Chema, el responsable de prensa nos pidió por favor a los medios gráficos que no entretuviéramos la operación de cambio para no abrasarlos del todo.
Bueno, ahi veis como acabaron las llantas del SLR (y creo que la ropa interior de alguno de los afortunados también terminó de un color parecido).

“Aunque no lo parezca, si, estamos tensos.”

“Voy a aprovechar para sonreir ahora, a lo mejor jamás vuelvo a hacerlo.”

“Lo conseguí, aguanté la vuelta sin vomitar…. y sin pañales !!!”

Juro que las llantas estaban impolutas antes de empezar a rodar.

Tras las vueltas, las preguntas a Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, el cual, puedo atestiguar que es un tio llano tal y como parece en la tele, contestó a todas las preguntas que se le hicieron (si, hasta a que si Lewis Hamilton iba a venir a rodar a Motorland, a la cual contestó con un “sabía que me ibais a hacer esa pregunta, pero será mejor que se lo pregunteis a él”), aunque bueno, hubo una pregunta que no contestó, la que le hice cuando íbamos a hacernos una foto juntos (Gracias Javier) y en la que le preguntaba acerca de cuantas veces le han entrado ganas de mandar a Antonio Lobato a tomar viento…. no me contestó, solo me miró y soltó una carcajada.

“Que Alonso ha dicho el que ???”

“No me diga que no ha sido gracioso como he pasado por delante del radar, señor agente..”

“Mira Pedro, que nos van a hacer una foto, así tendrás un recuerdo mío para toda la vida.” (muchas gracias a Javier Pellicer por la foto, que grande eres!)

Después una carrera de turismos, la cual ganó el piloto local Diego Puyo a los mandos de su Seat León.

“Mira que te he dicho que el desvío a Salou no era este, no ves que curvas hay? Mariano, levanta el pie que mi madre se está poniendo mala, por favor!”

“Que? que Briatore es un juerguista? a que te pego un banderazo!”

Y poca cosa más que destacar, salvo el buen rollo que hubo entre unos y otros compañeros, el mal rollo que se originó a veces porque TODOS queríamos sacar la foto buena y nos daba igual a quien tuviéramos a un lado-delante-detrás-encima-debajo, el sol que nos azotó de lo lindo (y yo con más de 8 gorras en el coche, que majas estaban ahí), lo bien que funcionaba el Media Shuttle para ir llevándonos a todos los fotógrafos y cámaras por el circuito, lo que se enrollaron los comisarios de pista del puesto 12 dándonos agua a unos cuantos fotógrafos y cámaras que estábamos secos y lo bien que lo pasamos todos juntos, trabajando, pero a gusto oye (que ganas tenía de contar el chiste de que a Rossi de Palma hay que hacerle los retratos de f:11 para arriba y que alguien lo entendiera, juas!)

Ya tengo ganas de la siguiente..

PD: si, estoy de acuerdo con no llamar “Sacacorchos” a las curvas en lazadas de la parte alta del trazado, habría que darle un nombre aragonés, verdad Javier Pellicer??

Ever watch the old batman and wished  you could have that Bat mobile? Well the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss is as close as your going to get. This rocket looking concept came out this year and is a new addition to the Mercedes – Mclaren Family.

Limited to 75 units and priced at 750,000 euros, the SLR Stirling Moss is reserved for only the most discriminating connoisseur. Most of the potential buyers for this crazy fast race car will likely know the history of the name SLR and Stirling Moss. In 1950 the SLR 300 raced into victory at both the Mile Miglia and the Targa Florio. Among the great drivers who raced in the SLR 300, one stood out most and earned this new rocket’s title. The British race car driver; Stirling Moss still holds the Mile Miglia record at: 10 hours 7 minutes and 48 seconds.

The Body: Made to be reminiscent of the SLR 300, the SLR Stirling Moss has no windshield as well as no roof. It is designed to give the ultimate driving experience. This baby is not designed to race but design for those with more unique needs.

Under the Hood: The Stirling Moss gives the driver a fast and exhilarating driving feel using its V8 Supercharged engine producing 650hp . This car will take you to heaven and back accelerating from stop to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 350km/h.

My Thoughts: If Mercedes was trying to build an aggressive looking car with a reminiscent 1950 SLR 300 feel then they hit their goal right on the mark. Whichever lucky bastard gets their hands on this beauty can rest assured that there won’t be anything like it on the road. The performance output sounds amazing and is faster than anything we’ve got on the road. All in all I’d say Mercedes hit the jackpot with the SLR Stirling Moss and probably redeemed themselves from the disappointingly mediocre SLR.

7. Maybach 62 $385,250

The Maybach 57 and 62 were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since the brand’s revival by DaimlerChrysler. They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motorshow (which was based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan). DaimlerChrysler attempted to buy the Rolls-Royce/Bentley marque when Vickers offered the company up for sale. When this attempt failed (they were outbid by BMW and Volkswagen respectively) they introduced the Maybach as a direct challenger in 2002. Both models are variants of the same ultra-luxurious automobile. The model numbers reflect the respective lengths of the automobiles in decimetres; the 57 is more likely to be owner-driven while the longer 62 is designed with a chauffeur in mind. The engine is a Mercedes-sourced 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12, generating 550 hp.

6. Mercedes SLR McLaren $455,500

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a sports car and supercar automobile co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars. It is assembled at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. Most people presume “SLR” to stand for “Sportlich, Leicht, Rennsport” (German for “Sport; Light; Racing”). The car’s base price is £300,000 or $455,500. The SLR has a supercharged 5.5 (5439cc) litre dry sumped 90 degree V8. It produces 466.8 kW at 6500rpm (626 hp) and 780 N·m (575 ft·lbf)

5. Porsche Carrera GT $484,000

The Porsche Carrera GT is a supercar, manufactured by Porsche of Germany. The Carrera GT is powered by an all-new 5.7 litre V10 engine producing 612 SAE horsepower (450 kW). Porsche claims it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.5 mph) in 3.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 330 km/h (206 mph), although road tests indicated that in actuality the car could accelerate from 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds and to 0-100 in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 335-340km/h.

4. Koenigsegg CCX $600,910

The Koenigsegg CCX is the latest supercar from Koenigsegg. CCX is an abbreviation for Competition Coupe X. The X commemorates the10th anniversary of the completion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996. The CCX is intended to be more suitable for the U.S. market and thus engineered to comply with US regulations. The CCX is powered by a Koenigsegg designed and assembled, all aluminium, 4700 cm³ DOHC 32-valve V8 based on the Ford Modular engine architecture enhanced with twin Rotrex centrifugal superchargers with response system, 1.2 bar boost pressure and an 8.2:1 compression ratio. The engine produces 806 hp (601 kW) and 678 lbf.ft (920 Nm) on 91 octane (U.S. rating) gasoline, 850 hp (634 kW) on 96 octane (Euro rating) gasoline and 900 hp (671 kW) on biofuel.

3. Pagani Zonda C12 F $741,000

The Zonda C12 F debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It is the most extensive reengineering of the Pagani car yet, though it shares much with its predecessors including the 7.3 L V12. Power is increased to 602 PS (443 kW/594 hp) with a special clubsport model producing 650 PS (478 kW/641 hp). The company promises a 3.2 second sprint to 60 mph (97 km/h, a top speed over 374 km/h (225 mph) and it will be the queen in braking from 300 km/h to 0 (186 mph to 0). The Zonda F clubsport has a power to weight ratio of 521 bhp/ton (384 W/kg) . Compare, for example, the Enzo Ferrari which has a power to weight ratio of 483 bhp/ton (356 W/kg).

2. Ferrari Enzo $1,000,000

The Enzo Ferrari, sometimes referred to as the the Ferrari Enzo and also F60 is a 12-cylinder Ferrari supercar named after the company’s founder, Enzo Ferrari. It was built in 2003 using Formula One technology, such as a carbon-fiber body, F1-style sequential shift transmission, and carbon-ceramic brake discs. Also used are technologies not allowed in F1 such as active aerodynamics. After a maximum downforce of 1709 pounds (775 kg) is reached at 186 mph (301 km/h) the rear spoiler is actuated by computer to maintain that downforce.

1. Bugatti Veyron $1,700,000

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h (407 km/h or 253 mph). It reached full production in September 2005. The car is built by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS and is sold under the legendary Bugatti marque. It is named after racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm. The Veyron features a W16 engine—16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders.

According to Volkswagen, the final production Veyron engine produces between 1020 and 1040 metric hp (1006 to 1026 SAE net hp), so the car will be advertised as producing “1001 horsepower” in both the US and European markets. This easily makes it the most powerful production road-car engine in history.

Como todos sabemos un futbolista de clase mundial gana en un mes  el equivalente al PIB de un país africano, pero el hecho de que se pudran en dinero no necesariamente quiere decir que traigan los autos más divertidos, ni mucho menos que los sepan manejar. Aquí unos ejemplos…

Cristiano Ronaldo del Manchester United es conocido por bailar con el balón cual bailarina de ballet, pero sobretodo por ser un tipo con una excelente opinión de si mismo (pobre mamón). Sus limitaciones al volante quedaron claras cuando embarró su Ferrari 599 GTB en un túnel, probablemente porque vio que tenía una ceja despeinada y esto alteró su concentración.

Thierry Henry estrella del Barcelona dio muestra de buen gusto al hacerse de un espectacular Mercedes McLaren SLR. Al fin alguien que piensa antes de gastar su dinero. Un consejo… NO lo dejes estacionado en la calle

Torsten Frings mediocampista de la selección alemana y del Werder Bremen demostró que no siempre hay que correr a la primera agencia de Ferrari o Bentley cuando te sobran unos cuantos miles y optó por el no tan obvio Wiesmann GT.

Steven Gerrard ha metido algunos de los goles más espectaculares que se han visto en los últimos años tanto con el Liverpool como con Inglaterra. Su opción de auto fue un poco menos espectacular y se fue por el camino “señora que va por los niños a la escuela y no tiene imaginación” con una Porsche Cayenne. Ohh me aburro

7. Maybach 62 $385,250

The Maybach 57 and 62 were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since the brand’s revival by DaimlerChrysler. They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motorshow (which was based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan). DaimlerChrysler attempted to buy the Rolls-Royce/Bentley marque when Vickers offered the company up for sale. When this attempt failed (they were outbid by BMW and Volkswagen respectively) they introduced the Maybach as a direct challenger in 2002. Both models are variants of the same ultra-luxurious automobile. The model numbers reflect the respective lengths of the automobiles in decimetres; the 57 is more likely to be owner-driven while the longer 62 is designed with a chauffeur in mind. The engine is a Mercedes-sourced 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12, generating 550 hp.

6. Mercedes SLR McLaren $455,500

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a sports car and supercar automobile co-developed by DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars. It is assembled at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. Most people presume “SLR” to stand for “Sportlich, Leicht, Rennsport” (German for “Sport; Light; Racing”). The car’s base price is £300,000 or $455,500. The SLR has a supercharged 5.5 (5439cc) litre dry sumped 90 degree V8. It produces 466.8 kW at 6500rpm (626 hp) and 780 N·m (575 ft·lbf)

5. Porsche Carrera GT $484,000

The Porsche Carrera GT is a supercar, manufactured by Porsche of Germany. The Carrera GT is powered by an all-new 5.7 litre V10 engine producing 612 SAE horsepower (450 kW). Porsche claims it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.5 mph) in 3.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 330 km/h (206 mph), although road tests indicated that in actuality the car could accelerate from 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds and to 0-100 in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 335-340km/h.

4. Koenigsegg CCX $600,910

The Koenigsegg CCX is the latest supercar from Koenigsegg. CCX is an abbreviation for Competition Coupe X. The X commemorates the 10th anniversary of the completion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996. The CCX is intended to be more suitable for the U.S. market and thus engineered to comply with US regulations. The CCX is powered by a Koenigsegg designed and assembled, all aluminium, 4700 cm³ DOHC 32-valve V8 based on the Ford Modular engine architecture enhanced with twin Rotrex centrifugal superchargers with response system, 1.2 bar boost pressure and an 8.2:1 compression ratio. The engine produces 806 hp (601 kW) and 678 lbf.ft (920 Nm) on 91 octane (U.S. rating) gasoline, 850 hp (634 kW) on 96 octane (Euro rating) gasoline and 900 hp (671 kW) on biofuel.

3. Pagani Zonda C12 F $741,000

The Zonda C12 F debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It is the most extensive reengineering of the Pagani car yet, though it shares much with its predecessors including the 7.3 L V12. Power is increased to 602 PS (443 kW/594 hp) with a special clubsport model producing 650 PS (478 kW/641 hp). The company promises a 3.2 second sprint to 60 mph (97 km/h, a top speed over 374 km/h (225 mph) and it will be the queen in braking from 300 km/h to 0 (186 mph to 0). The Zonda F clubsport has a power to weight ratio of 521 bhp/ton (384 W/kg) . Compare, for example, the Enzo Ferrari which has a power to weight ratio of 483 bhp/ton (356 W/kg).

2. Ferrari Enzo $1,000,000

The Enzo Ferrari, sometimes referred to as the the Ferrari Enzo and also F60 is a 12-cylinder Ferrari supercar named after the company’s founder, Enzo Ferrari. It was built in 2003 using Formula One technology, such as a carbon-fiber body, F1-style sequential shift transmission, and carbon-ceramic brake discs. Also used are technologies not allowed in F1 such as active aerodynamics. After a maximum downforce of 1709 pounds (775 kg) is reached at 186 mph (301 km/h) the rear spoiler is actuated by computer to maintain that downforce.

1. Bugatti Veyron $1,700,000

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h (407 km/h or 253 mph). It reached full production in September 2005. The car is built by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS and is sold under the legendary Bugatti marque. It is named after racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm. The Veyron features a W16 engine—16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders.

According to Volkswagen, the final production Veyron engine produces between 1020 and 1040 metric hp (1006 to 1026 SAE net hp), so the car will be advertised as producing “1001 horsepower” in both the US and European markets. This easily makes it the most powerful production road-car engine in history.

Last night my wife Andrea did make-up for a fashion show held at a private car club called Luxautica. Luxautica is a private car club that has memberships that start at $10,000 and go all the way up to $100,000. With a membership you are able to use the ultra exotic cars without the cost of ownership, upkeep and insurance. Luxautica is actually an old art gallery at the Mall at Millenia that has been converted to a private showroom and club areas for members only. The members are also encouraged to use the club for private functions and events.

Andrea’s make up that she did on the models was great but the highlight for me of course were the cars. I just love cars and these are exotics you don’t see on the road everyday. Exotics such as the $1.7 mill. Bugatti Veyron, the $1 mill. Mercedes McLaren SLR, the $800,000 Ferrari Enzo and of course always a crowd pleaser, the $350,000 Rolls Royce Phantom. These were only a few of the cars in attendance in the showroom. It was a car lovers dream. Unfortunately that will probably be the only time I will be allowed into this members only club. But just seeing these cars up close is enough for me. Luxautica, kind of like “car heaven”!
