I bought this SD Card for an upcoming trip to Italy because I would be renting a car while I was there. Having this European map was a lifesaver. It gave us the ability to go off of the beaten paths. I found the map to be very accurate…even within the complex streetscapes of Florence. If you missed a turn, it would recalculate your route accurately.
Once, I was driving on a highway that had several tolls. This was an inconvenience because there was a 5-minute traffic backup at many of the toll booths. Finally, I requested that my GPS find an alternate route without tolls. Off we drove onto 2-lane roads with breathtaking views of old towns, farms, orchards, churches, and lakes. We toured the Tuscan Italian countryside like I never thought we could. Also, I used it to take me to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italian beachside communities and the Port Civitavecchia.
I even used it while on my Mediterranean cruise. I would see land in the distance and wonder where we were. I just turned my GPS on and within a moment, I was able to see our location. I also used it in the Greek Isles…Mykonos to be exact. It’s great if you want to rent a scooter for a few hours and not lose your way.
Make sure that your GPS can accept this card. I had to do some research to see if this was compatible with my unit. I used the Garmin Nuvi 265W and it worked great.

My wife and I were going to Europe, and having little knowledge or the languages, we bought the Garmin City Navigator for Europe. I must say, it was a godsend!!! We never could have gotten around with maps alone. We were even able to find our rental car every time we took walking tours. It is a very worthwhile investment

I purchased the SD card for the purpose of navigating the streets of various European cities via the “pedestrian option”. Unfortunately I ran in to difficulty because the GPS, more often than not, did not produce the correct route. When the route was correctly indicated the “turn left, turn right” responses were delayed and proved to be ineffective. I tried the card with a second Garmin unit and the same problems occurred.

Estive este feriado em Nova York onde pude assistir à encenação de Il Trittico, obra de Puccini que reúne 3 óperas de um ato cada: Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica e Gianni Schicchi. Assisti no Metropolitan Opera House, o mesmo lugar onde Il Trittico estreou, em 1918 (o que já foi uma felicidade à parte).

A noite teve vários pontos altos, mas na minha opinião, o maior deles foi a produção, especialmente o cenário. Esta obra tem um complicômetro a mais para a equipe de produção, já que eles tem que mudar em poucos minutos o cenário de uma ópera para outra, sendo que a primeira não tem nada a ver com a segunda que não tem nada a ver com a terceira. E nisso eles foram mestres. E os cenários, maravilhosos. Gosto de cenários tradicionais que não ficam querendo ser irreverentes e não buscam inventar a roda. Claro, a criatividade é sempre bem vinda, como a destes cenários que utilizaram perfeitamente a perspectiva distorcida para dar uma maior sensação de profundidade, a ponto de a gente achar que tinha um prédio de fábrica inteiro dentro do palco. Mas gosto quando reproduzem a estética e o clima da época que o compositor pensou para ela. Não quero ver uma ópera daquela época encenada nos dias de hoje. Hoje eu conheço. Eu quero ler a mente do compositor, até onde isso for possível.

A soprano Patricia Racette, que protagonizou as três óperas, foi muito bem, mas deixou um pouco a desejar na primeira, Il Tabarro, na minha opinião. Mas logo imaginei que talvez seu forte fossem notas mais agudas que as do seu papel de Giorgetta. Pensei que estaria melhor em Suor Angelica, por seu personagem entoar notas agudas de desespero de uma mãe que perde o filho. E comprovei, esteve muito bem. Terminei esta ópera igualmente desesperada. Ela conseguiu perfeitamente incorporar a dor daquela mãe e passar para o público. Na terceira ópera, Gianni Schicchi, sua personagem canta aquela famosa ária O Mio Babbino Caro, que por si só já é linda. Ela cantou bem. Mesmo sem ter sido uma interpretação espetacular, pois achei que faltou a súplica sarcástica que a ária pede (neste momento, a personagem pede ao pai que ajude a família do seu noivo a dar um golpe do tio rico), me deliciei.

Quem esteve espetacular foi Stephanie Blythe, que apesar de cantar no Metropolitan ainda não teve o reconhecimento que merece. É impressionante o volume e o brilho que essa mezzo-soprano tem em todas as notas. E interpreta maravilhosamente, de uma velha parisiense a uma princesa na Toscana. Roubou o show e os aplausos dos cantores principais, como já fez em outras performances no Met. Também gostei muito de Alessandro Corbelli no papel-título de Gianni Schicchi e da orquestra regida por Stefano Ranzani. Dignos do Metropolitan!!

Sándor Kónya fue un tenor húngaro que durante la década de los sesenta se convirtió en uno de los pilares del elenco del Metropolitan Opera, en el que actúo de 1961 a 1974. Nació en  Sarkad el 23 de septiembre de 1923 y murió el 20 de mayo de 2002 en su casa en Ibiza a los 78 años.

Kónya tenía una voz poderosa y dramática y se le ha considerado más bien como un tenor wagneriano. Sin embargo, su amplio repertorio incluía también varios de los principales papeles de Verdi y Puccini, así como el Edgardo de la Lucia di Lammermoor de Donizetti, o Turiddu en Cavalleria Rusticana de Mascagni

Aunque su Wagner fue criticado por algunos por ser demasiado apasionado, incluso verista, los admiradores de Kónya precisamente le aprecian por la tendencia hacia la fusión de las dos escuelas para las voces de este tipo, lírico spinto: del mismo modo que llevó el lirismo emocional de la ópera italiana a las papeles germánicos, cantó los roles del repertorio italiano con un sonido grande, más heroico.

Kónya inició sus estudios en la Academia Franz Liszt en Budapest. Durante la Segunda Guerra mundial cayó prisionero de los alemanes, y al finalizar el conflicto fue liberado, continuando sus estudios en Milán y en la Academia de Música de Detmold, en el noroeste de Alemania. En 1951 hizo su debut profesional como Turiddu en la Ópera de Bielefeld. Permaneció en el elenco de la compañía tres años, durante los cuales amplió su repertorio incluso cantando opereta y otros papeles más ligeros. A mediados de la década de 1950 actuó en Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Hamburgo y otras ciudades alemanas, y en 1955 se unió a la compañía de la Deutsche Oper de Berlín (entonces llamada la Städtische Oper). En Berlín, creó el papel de Leandro en el estreno de la ópera König Hirsch de Hans Werner Henze.

Kónya hizo su debut en Bayreuth en el papel protagonista de Lohengrin de Wagner en 1958. Sus actuaciones en Bayreuth se prolongaron durante trece años en siete temporadas cantando los papeles principales de Lohengrin (1958-59-60 y 67), Parsifal (1966 y 71), Walter von Stolzing (1964) y los secundarios del marinero (Tristan und Isolde) y Froh (Das Rheingold) en la temporada 1958.

Su éxito como Lohengrin lo lanzó internacionalmente, y le supuso hacer su debut, en el mismo papel, en París en 1959, el Metropolitan Opera en 1961 y Covent Garden en 1963. En 1960 hizo su debut en La Scala, como Parsifal, así como su debut en Estados Unidos con el Dick Johnson de La Fanciulla del West de Puccini en la Ópera de San Francisco. En sus últimos años, viajó a Europa, Japón y América del Sur y realizado varias grabaciones, entre ella el Lohengrin, dirigida por Leinsdorf y y Meistersinger con Kubelik.

Cuando Kónya hizo su debut en el Metropolitan, Harold C. Schönberg escribió en The New York Times que “es un tenor wagneriano de raza, y una valiosa aportación a la compañía… Su voz es de un Heldentenor, con proporciones heroicas”. Schoenberg describía así su canto “Puede emitir con un gran volumen sin forzar, tiene un agudo fácil y no parece que se canse. La voz es de muy buena calidad, colorido y sonido, aunque no lo suficiente en la actualidad como para acometer el Siegfried y Tristán”

Kónya se mantuvo en el Met hasta el final de 1974. Durante sus 14 temporadas en la casa dio 287 representaciones en 22 obras, incluyendo entre ellos Radamés, Riccardo en Un Ballo in maschera, Max en Der Freischütz, Eric de Der Fliegende Hollander, Walter de Los maestros cantores de Nuremberg, el papel protagonista en Parsifal, Alfredo en La Travista, Cavaradossi en Tosca, e incluso el Edgardo en la Lucia de Donizetti. Su últimas actuaciones en el Met  fue como Steva en Jenufa.

Las función que hoy os presento gira entorno a dos estrellas en pleno esplendor: el propio Kónya y la soprano Regine Crespin.

Como ya he explicado el Lohengrin era uno de los papeles emblemáticos del húngaro y oyéndolo en estas funciones se entiende el por qué. La voz es grande y brillante, y su canto es fácil, sin esfuerzo. La línea de canto está llena de lirismo y la emisión es cálida. No aparecen en ningún momento signos de cansancio o de flaqueza, en ese sentido recuerda a la facilidad en el canto de Lauritz Melchior, y aunque no se prodiga en jugar con las dinámicas sí que posee un fraseo rico y variado. Toda una creación.

Aquí os dejo el “In fernem land” de esta misma función, brillante de voz y de canto apasionado.

No me ha entusiasmado la Elsa de Régine Crespin, encuentro la voz demasiado gruesa, un poco matronil, para un personaje que yo prefiero escuchar a voces más angelicales, como la Grümmer, la Janowitz o incluso la Studer. Mejora en las frases más dramáticas del duo con su ya esposo en el tercer acto, pero en general su canto se me hace pasado en sus intervenciones del primer actro y sobretodo en el gran concertante previo al final del segundo.

La Ortrud de Nell Rankin es demasiado exagerada, a veces parece una caricatura, se esfuerza demasiado en resaltar la maldad de esta mujer de instintos primitivos, cuando la verdadera maldad reside en lo sibilino – véase el dúo con Elsa, donde le envenena sutilmente para que desconfíe de su futuro esposo -, aunque también ha de ser salvaje en las imprecaciones a los dioses ancestrales germanos. Vocalmente tiene una voz no demasiado carismática y con un agudo bastante calante. El Telramund de Cassel es monolítico en lo vocal y en lo interpretativo, sin sobresaltos ni para bien ni para mal. El rey y su heraldo están bien defendidos.

La dirección de Joseph Rosenstock tiene la virtud de la pulcritud, pero la desgracia de la falta de ímpetu y cierta sensación de rutina, mientras que la orquesta y coro del Met suenan correctamente. La calidad de la grabación es bastante buena.

Gay Christians Criticise ‘Hate’ Bill

Senior gay and transgender Christians have attacked a pro-discrimination law which was defeated four times in the House of Commons and criticised by the European commission.

The clause, which allows “criticism of sexual conduct” on religious grounds, was kept in the Coroners and Justice Bill in the dying hours of the last parliamentary session despite being defeated in the House of Commons. Justice minister Jack Straw retreated after lords voted to keep it for the fourth time on 11 November.

But the comments from within the UK’s gay Christian community put pressure on the mainstream church, after the European commission wrote to the government last week to say its discrimination laws were “broader than permitted”, effectively forcing churches to end bans on homosexual staff.

Pastor Kieren Bourne of the Living Springs church, Bath, had a sex change operation in 1999 and is part of a small minority of gay or transgender Christians in the UK. He said: “I think it’s appalling. It seems to me that the church is being allowed to get away with discrimination when every other section of society is not.”

Brought up in New Zealand, Rev Bourne, 51, moved to Bath 14 years ago but was surprised by what he perceived as a less liberal atmosphere in the mainstream church. He joined Living Springs, a branch of the 95 per cent gay Metropolitan Community Church (MCC).

“Having the opportunity to question the appropriateness of [gay sex] should be open to people, but without being critical of the individuals concerned.”

Now living with a woman in Bathford, Avon, he said the pressure put on gay Christians by employment bans and discrimination leaves many feeling forced out of the mainstream church, and into organisations like the MCC.

And although the minority church, which was founded in 1968, holds tri-annual conferences – the next is in Acapulco, Mexico next year – it does not have the same political weight as other organisations. It has fewer than 15 churches in the UK and the Bath branch has only 13 full-time members.

One of these, Bill Fraser, has been a full-time churchwarden in Bath for five years. He first contacted the MCC last year after announcing his sexuality at an annual parish meeting. But he stayed in the mainstream church to “fight from the inside”, following the example of controversial gay American bishop Gene Robinson.

Another, 64-year-old lay delegate Jenny Bailey, was a long-time member of the Church of England when she began attending the MCC. She revealed her sexuality to her vicar in 1997, and said his hostile reception made her feel pressured to leave.

She said: “I did not feel my personal preferences were relevant inside the church. He said they were. He seemed to think I was going to walk in holding hands with another woman.

“Just a few weeks after that I had a serious accident and broke my ankle into about seven or eight pieces. Nobody phoned to check up and see how I was. I thought, ‘Why am I kidding myself?’. They didn’t want me.”

But Ms Bailey, who was married for more than 22 years before realising she was gay in her 40s, also issued words of caution about restricting free speech. She said: “I want it for myself, so why should I not want it for other people? It’s up to them, and it’s their personal opinion. But they should not be able to impose it on me.”

While the MCC argues anti-homosexual readings of the bible do not reflect its meaning, the mainstream church in Bath is more traditional.

The Church of England rural dean of Bath, Patrick Whitworth, said: “From the church’s point of view it is not God’s view. So having the opportunity to question the appropriateness of it should be open to people, but without being critical of the individuals concerned.”

Meanwhile a group hosted by the MP Clare Short will meet at the Commons this Tuesday to campaign against similar clauses in the Equality Bill drawn up by Harriet Harman, Labour’s deputy leader.

The bill is designed to ensure greater equality between people of different gender, race, religion and social class. But the group argues religious ‘opt-out’ clauses could be added as the bill progresses to the House of Lords.

I dag kan vi läsa i bl a SvD, DN och Expressen att vår stora operastjärna Elisabeth Söderström har avlidit 82 år gammal. Hon framträdde på flera av världens stora scener, t ex Metropolitan i New York. Mitt eget främsta minne av henne är de TV-framträdanden hon gjorde med Kjerstin Dellert i Prima primadonnor, där hon visade vilken mångsidig artist hon var.

Eftersom Elisabeth Söderström inte fått något eget frimärke visar jag här ett som utgivits till Drottningholmsteaterns 200-årsjubileum 1966. Det är i högsta grad relevant, då hon var konstnärlig ledare för denna teater 1993-96.

Es gibt Mo, Mi und Do die Verbindung Düsseldorf HBf – Stuttgart HBf
Abfahrt des IC 1119 “Loreley” ist um 14:51 Uhr von Gleis 19.

Gestern war ich mal “außerplanmäßig” unterwegs  und hatte mir diese Verbindung von Düsseldorf nach Köln ausgesucht. Auf Gleis 19 stieg ich in den Zug am Bahnsteig, doch schon vor dem Einstieg merkte ich, dass es kein gewöhnlicher IC war, bzw. war es überhaupt der richtige Zug???
Die Wagen wirkten höher und waren ganz anders eingerichtet; überall Holz und viel viel Leder. Und das war erst die 2. Klasse! Eine weitere Besonderheit war die Anordnung der Sitzreihen. Statt der gewohnten 2 Sitze – Gang – 2 Sitze gab es 2 Sitze – Gang – 1 Sitz.
Der Schaffner den ich fragte, damit ich auch den richtigen Zug nehme, lüftete das “Geheimnis”: Es waren die Ex-Metropolitan-Garnituren des Metropolitan Zuges, der vor einigen Jahren zwischen Köln und Hamburg verkehrte.

Schade, dass dieser Zug mit dem Fahrplanwechsel im Dezember 2009 dann die Strecke Berlin – Hamburg bedienen wird.

Para pengguna jalan yang melintasi jurusan Asahan – Tobasa harus ekstra hati-hati, sebab pada lintas kilometer 2,5 atau tepatnya di Desa Marjanji Aceh Kecamatan Aek Songsongan hampir separuh badan jalan mengalami longsor dengan kedalaman lebih kurang 15 meter.

Sebagaimana menurut warga Desa Marjanji Aceh, Almer Sidabutar saat ditemui koran ini baru-baru ini, badan jalan yang mengalami longsor juga terdapat di kilometer 3 desa yang sama.

Para pengguna jalan berharap, Dinas Jalan dan Jembatan Propinsi Sumatera Utara turun melihat langsung, sehingga tahu persis dampak dari kerusakan badan jalan tersebut.

Sementara itu, Kepala Desa Marjanji Aceh, R Sofyan Panjaitan menegaskan, apabila kondisi badan jalan yang rusak tidak segera mendapat perbaikan dari Dinas Jalan dan Jembatan Propinsi Sumatera Utara bukan tidak mungkin akan menelan korban.

“Diharapkan kepada Pemda Asahan dan Pemerintah Propinsi Sumatera Utara untuk segera mungkin memberikan perhatian yang serius,” kata R Sofyan. [tbn]

Tidak tahu lagi mesti apa yang harus dikatakan buat kinerja PLN Cabang Rantauprapat, terlebih Unit Rayon Kota Rantauprapat.

Pemadaman tidak beraturan yang terus dirasakan warga dianggap sudah “makanan” sehari-harinya.

Namun, sikap yang diperlihatkan PLN, Sabtu (14/11) sekira pukul 18.04 WIB, sangat-sangat keterlaluan.

Pasalnya, baru saja Bilal di masjid mengumandangkan suara Adzan, perusahaan yang masih disubsidi itu, memadamkan lampunya.

Imbasnya, panggilan kepada umat Islam untuk melakukan shalat-pun terpaksa terhenti.

“Astaqhfirullaahal ‘azhiim,” kata puluhan jemaah yang telah berada didalam Masjid Al Ikhlas Lingkungan Aek Siranda Kelurahan Siringo-ringo Kecamatan Rantau Utara, sesaat listrik yang mengalir kemasjid tersebut padam.

Sesaat kemudian warga terus berbegas mencari tombol mesin Genset untuk dihidupkan dan suara Adzan kembali berkumandang diperkampungan itu.

“Untung ada Genset, kalau tidak bagaimana ini dan bagaimana nasib yang tidak memiliki mesin listrik,” celetuk jemaah yang masih berada diteras masjid.

Usai shalat warga mengatakan, jika memang harus dipadamnakn, pihak PLN tidak mengambil waktu pemadaman disaat-saat warga sedang menjalankan kewajiban beribadahnya. Karena hal itu jelas-jelas dirasakan sangat menganggu.

“Tadi listriknya hidup sebelum selesai Adzan, sekira empat menitlah, tapi terasa mengganggu. Kalau harus dimatikan, lihat-lihat kondisinyilah. Kita berharap pihak PLN dapat menghargai warga saat beribadah, sebelum atau sesudahnyalah mahunya, kan tidak mengganggu,” harap Buana.

Pemadaman juga dirasakan warga yang berdomisili di Jalan Air Langga, Kelurahan Cendana dan Jalan Siringo-ringo, Kelurahan Sirandorung.

Baru saja dikumandangkan Adzan didaerah mereka, lampu-pun dipadamakn pihak perusahaan negara tersebut.

“Bukan disini saja yang padam, mungkin diseluruh Kota Rantauprapat ini,” aku Pati dan Muksin, Minggu (15/11) di Rantauprapat.

Kepala PLN Unit Rayon Kota Rantauprapat Mangoba Siregar saat dihubungi wartawan, Minggu (15/11) melalui telepon selular mengatakan, pemadaman direncanakan hingga 23 Desember 2009 dan sebelumnya telah dimuat di beberapa media surat kabar harian.

Disinggung tentang gendala, Mangoba mengarahkan kepada bagian humasnya.

“Bapak kalau bertanya langsung dimuat dikoran-koran, jadi sepertinya kita tidak bisa ‘bertemu’ ini, itulah yang enggak bisa sama saya, seperti tidak ada jalan lain. Kalau masalah gendala, tanya sama humas saja ya,” terang Mangoba. [tbn]

Setelah beberapa tahun mendapat penilaian Wajar Dengan Pengecualian (WDP) dari BPK, maka untuk tahun-tahun mendatang Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai (Sergai) diproyeksikan menjadi salahsatu daerah terbaik untuk mendapatkan penilaian Wajar Tanpa Pengecualian (WTP).

Penegasan itu dikemukakan anggota tim Komite IV Dewan Perwakilan Daerah Republik Indonesia (DPD RI) saat mengadakan pertemuan dengan Wakil Bupati Sergai H Soekirman dan jajarannya yang berlangsung di kantor Bupati Sergai di Sei Rampah, kemarin.

Tim I Komite IV DPD RI yang datang mengunjungi Kabupaten Sergai tersebut dipimpin langsung oleh Ketua Tim Prof Dr Jhon Pieris SH MS dari daerah pemilihan Maluku dan didampingi koordinator tim Drs Rudolf M Pardede (mantan Gubsu) dan empat anggota tim masing-masing Dr Ahmad Farhan Hamid MS dari daerah pemilihan NAD, Drs H Abidin Mustafa MSi (Sulawesi Tenggara), Ir H Iskandar Muda Baharuddin Lopa (Sulawesi Barat), H LL Abdul Muhyi Abidin MA (NTB).

Anggota DPD RI yang membidangi anggaran itu mengemukakan, hasil masukan yang mereka terima dari BPK di pusat maupun perwakilan di Medan, Serdang Bedagai termasuk kabupaten bagus pelaporannya yaitu penyampaiannya tepat waktu.

Artinya kalau mengacu dari barometer berhasilnya sebuah daerah dinilai dari tepatnya membuat APBD, pelaksanaannya bisa teratur dan pelaporannya juga lebih cepat dan tepat waktu.

Hal ini menurut anggota DPD terhormat tersebut sudah dilaksanakan Pemkab Sergai sehingga mendapat penilaian WDP dari BPK dan diharapkan dapat meningkat lagi untuk mendapatkan nilai WTP pada tahun mendatang.

Dikemukakan DPD yang datang ke daerah bukan untuk mengkoreksi tapi memberikan saran dan menerima saran. Tugas DPD RI adalah untuk memperjuangkan kepentingan daerah, untuk memperkuat posisi sekaligus memperbaiki keadaan daerah baik provinsi maupun kabupaten/kota.

Oleh karenanya, kehadiran Tim I Komite IV DPD RI ke Kabupaten Sergai adalah untuk mengadakan sharing pendapat sekaligus memberi support dan dukungan kepada jajaran Pemkab Sergai agar daerah ini menjadi lebih baik dari sebelumnya terutama dalam penyampaian LKPD sehingga mendapatkan nilai Wajar Tanpa Pengecualian dari BPK.

“Keberhasilan yang sudah dicapai Kabupaten Sergai selama ini agar daerah yang baru dibentuk ini jangan sempat lumut-lumut menggrogotinya dan ambil kesempatan pertama membuat LKPD sehingga BPK memberi WTP,” saran para anggota tim Komite IV DPD RI.

Koordinator tim Drs Rudolf M Pardede mengatakan, tujuan kedatangan para anggota DPD ke daerah adalah untuk memberi input-input apa yang bisa dibantu dan disampaikan ke pemerintah pusat melalui DPD RI.

Kabupaten Sergai, menurut mantan Gubsu, merupakan salahsatu daerah yang cepat kemajuannya dan tercepat dalam menyampaikan Laporan Kinerja Pemerintah Daerah (LKPD) di Sumatera Utara.

Oleh karenanya kesempatan pertama dalam kunjungan tim I Komite IV DPD RI ke Sumatera Utara tahun 2009 ini memilih Kabupaten Sergai sebagai satu-satunya daerah yang dikunjungi.

Rudolf M Pardede menambahkan, DPD RI terus memperjuangkan pembagian hasil perkebunan dapat dialokasikan untuk daerah-daerah.

Kalau berhasil tentu hal tersebut dapat meningkatkan PAD bagi setiap daerah yang arealnya memiliki kawasan perkebunan.

Sementara itu Wakil Bupati Sergai H Soekirman didampingi Sekdakab Sergai Drs H Haris Fadillah dan sejumlah kepala SKPD dalam pertemuan itu mengucapkan terimakasih atas kunjungan para anggota DPD RI ke Kabupaten Sergai.

“Saran masukan dalam upaya perbaikan secepatnya akan kami respon menuju yang terbaik dan memberi manfaat kepada semua pihak di Sergai,” ujar Soekirman. [tbn]

Other than that endeavor making me feel like a prostitute, I think I’m in love with another guy, who I’ll call Greg. Or at least, I thought I was. That is, until two days ago when a bit of a cloud started gathering above all our conversations. I think he’s still fucking other women, but who am I to bring that up?  What a nag that would make me.  Plus, how am I supposed to settle down if I can’t keep the drama out of my life long enough to even get seriously involved with someone? November 11, 2009 – The largest water wholesaler in Southern California, Metropolitan Water District, is helping to fund a new desalination plant to be constructed in Carlsbad, California.

Carlsbad to Get Desalination Plant

Metropolitan has agreed to subsidize that plant with $350 million over 25 years in an attempt to help the plant compete with other water sources.  The announcement of the funding of the 2-year construction project is welcome news to Carlsbad contractors and other area tradesmen.

The desalination plant will be built near the Encina Power Station, with construction efforts being headed-up by the Connecticut company Poseidon Resources Corp.  It is hoped that the facility will be able to supply close to 9% of the water consumed by San Diego Country.  All interested area contractors should pursue subcontracting positions with Poseidon Resources, including Oceanside plumbers and Carlsbad electricians.

Ha habido ciertas representaciones a lo largo de los últimos 50-60 años que han supuesto la recuperación de títulos que ahora parecen totalmente indispensables en el repertorio y que se programan con asiduidad, sobretodo de obras del belcantismo italiano (léase Rossini, Bellini y Donizetti), pero también de Verdi. Una de estas obras ha sido el Macbeth verdiano, y como punto culminante de su recuperación las funciones del Met que aquí os presento.

Aunque con anterioridad se habían dado producciones importantes de la obra, como la que la Callas había dejado en el año 1952 en la Scala, estas no se tradujeron en una recuperación como Dios manda, es decir, en una grabación discográfica, a pesar del nivel estratosférico de la Lady Macbeth de la grecoamericana y de la vibrante dirección del maestro De Sabata, ya que no fue hasta estas triunfales funciones neoyorquinas que la primera compañía americana del disco, la RCA, las llevó al disco de inmediato con idéntico plantel que en el teatro.

La verdad es que las funciones tienen el mismo altísimo nivel que el disco, con el aliciente de la emoción de la toma en vivo, con un sonido decentísimo.

Hablar de Leonard Warren es hablar de una de las voces baritonales más prodigiosas y poderosas jamás grabadas. El instrumento de Warren es grande, homogéneo y de una extensión considerable (hasta el si bemol agudo), y el canto es facilísimo (parece como si no hiciera nada), lleno de matices y con un fiato considerable. Su creación del noble escocés es antológica tanto por el poderío vocal como por su vertiente interpretativa. El personaje de Macbeth es extenso y complejo, con lo que se requiere una voz llena de matices pero a la vez con empuje y resistencia. Es un papel para un auténtico barítono dramático, y Leonard Warren ha sido uno de los más grandes.

Para que lo comprobéis os dejo un video con la bellísima aria “Pietà, rispetto, amore”, del cuarto acto, que corresponden a las funciones que estamos comentando. Atención al espectacular y brillante la bemol con el que cierra el aria.

A su lado brilla con luz propia la malvadísima Lady Macbeth de Leonie Rysanek. Es la Rysanek una soprano dramática, en el sentido más wagneriano de la palabra, que en el repertorio italiano nunca me ha gustado (le recuerdo una horrorosa Amelia del Ballo in Maschera también en el Met), pero consigue en la Lady Macbeth la caracterización perfecta, aquello que queria Verdi para el personaje: “una soprano que cantara bien pero con una voz desagradable, que se arrastre por el escenario,… un demonio de mujer”. La Rysanek se defiende muy bien en el grave, al que ha de descender en muchísimas ocasiones, con unos sonidos oscuros, tenebrosos, y está brillante en las ascensiones al agudo (hasta el re5), con un sonido algo calante pero perfectamente asimilable a las caracterísiticas psicológicas del rol. Una Lady Macbeth redonda.

Os dejo a la Rysanek cantando la celebérrima aria del segundo acto “La luce langue”, en la versión en estudio que antes comentabamos.

Redondean el cuarteto protagonista el imponente Banco de Jerome Hines, de rocosa seguridad y gran aplomo, y el brillante Carlo Bergonzi bordando esa joya del repertorio de tenor que es el aria de Macduff del cuarto acto “A la paterna mano”.

De gran interés es la dirección del maestro Leinsdorf, que hace una lectura de gran fibra dramática, con un control absoluto de las grandes escenas de conjunto, partiendo de la revisión parisina de 1865 (como es normal) pero sin la escena del ballet.

t. Nectarios, earthly name was Anastasios, as he was called, was from a very poor family in nineteenth century Selybria, in Thrace. He attempted to board a ship to Constantinople to find work, but he had no money for a ticket. The engines of the ship roared, yet it would not move until young Anastasios was permitted aboard. En route, the sea once raged, but Anastasios dipped his cross, which contained a piece of the True Cross, into the water three times, praying “Silence! Be still.” The waters became still, but he lost his cross. As the ship continued, a loud continuous knocking was heard from beneath the ship. When they arrived at their destination, the sailors found the cross stuck to the bottom of the ship, as if the holy Cross of our Lord led the ship… When he was 29 years of age, he became a monk on the island of Chios. The patriarch sent him to study theology in Athens, and he was ordained Priest Nektarios (when you become a monk your name is changed), and later the Bishop of Pentapolis.

However, owing to jealousy and alleged improprieties, he was removed from office, only to be rejected again in Athens and island of Euboiea. He suffered as a pauper, but he persevered, and his integrity and his wisdom shone through. The people of Euboiea embraced him. He became the Dean of the School of Theology in Athens in 1910 and helped begin a convent and became a spiritual father with healing powers for many throughout Greece. Ten years later, he was taken from Aegina to a hospital ward in Athens for the poor and incurable. He gave up his spirit there, and they prepared him for burial. His sweater was placed on the nearby bed of a paralytic, who suddenly regained his strength and walked. The room, which has since become a chapel, was filled with a beautiful fragrance for many days after his repose in the Lord our God. Healings are seen throughout the world to this day by the saint’s holy prayers. He is considered the patron saint of those with cancer, heart trouble, arthritis, for those who are seeking a job, and epilepsy.

St. Nectarios lived from 1846 until 1920. On November 9th, (1920) St. Nectarios reposed in the Lord. The Feast day for St. Nectarios is 9 November.

Professor John E. Rexine, of Colgate University wrote the following:

“Widely known among the Orthodox as a great miracle-worker, particularly as a healer of every sort of disease, St. Nectarios was a many-sided personality. He was a prolific writer, theologian, philosopher, moralist, educator, poet, ascetic and mystic.”

Pelaksanaan proyek pengaspalan yang dilakukan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum (PU)Tebing Tinggi terkesan tidak profesional.

Bahkan, pengerjaan proyek pengaspalan yang berdana miliaran rupiah di wilayah Tebing Tinggi diduga masih dapat diatur oleh pihak pelaksana pemenang tender.

Ironisnya, informasi yang diperoleh Mandiri, pelaksanaan proyek pengaspalan jalan tersebut terkesan terbuang sia sia, seperti halnya pengerjaan pengaspalan Jalan Purnawirawan dan Jalan Gotong Royong Lingkungan III Kelurahan Damar Sari Kecamatan Padang Hilir terkesan asal jadi.

Pasalnya, jalan yang baru saja selesai dikerjakan sudah mengalami retak, diduga keretakan terjadi akibat pengaspalan yang amburadul.

Pantauan LSM Toppan RI baru-baru ini, pengerjaan pengaspalan jalan berlangsung tanpa papan proyek, sehingga diduga kuat memberikan peluang buat pelaksana proyek tersebut untuk melakukan penyimpangan.

Anehnya, saat pekerjaan pengaspalan berlangsung, disebut-sebut sejumlah oknum Pimpro (Pimpinan Proyek) telah dikondisikan, karena saat pekerjaan berlangsung Konsultan dan Pimpro hanya tampak ‘duduk manis’ tanpa mengkontrol pekerjaan.

Isu yang didapat Mandiri pada saat pengerjaan berlangsung, orang kepercayaan pelaksana sempat mengatakan, sudahlah bos.

“Ngapain dilihat, nanti kita bicara di kantor, ngertilah sikit bos,” ucapnya.
Sementara itu, Kepala Lingkungan III B Limbong sangat menyesalkan peristiwa itu terjadi.

“Mengapa pekerjaan pengaspalan jalan terkesan asal jadi dan tanpa papan proyek, bagaimana kita dapat memantau pekerjaan?” ujarnya, Minggu (8/11).

Kondisi ini juga sangat disesali sejumlah pihak, mengapa pekerjaan pengaspalan jalan yang baru selesai sudah tampak retak.

“Bukankah sebelum dikerjakan, Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Tebing Tinggi seharusnya sudah membuat perincian volume, membentuk team, seperti halnya Pimpro, Konsultan dan pihak yang bertanggungjawab dalam hal pengerjaan pengaspalan di lapangan. Namun, mengapa kondisi ini bisa terjadi?” ujar Ketua DPC Awindo Kota Tebing Tinggi, Syaiful Amuan.

Seketaris LSM TOPPAN RI, Sahadat Hutasoit kepada Mandiri meminta, pihak Kejaksaan dan Kepolisian Tebing Tinggi untuk meninjau dan mendatangkan khusus team ahli dari Medan untuk mengkoreksi setiap pekerjaan pengaspalan yang terkesan asal jadi, seperti di Jalan Abdul Hamid baru selesai di aspal sudah ada tempelan. “Itupun dengan menggunakan semen,” ujarnya seraya menyebutkan, jika memang terbukti melakukan tindak pidana dugaan korupsi, sudah seharusnya melakukan prosedur hukum. Demi mewujudkan kualitas dan mutu pendidikan di republik ini, berbagai macam cara dan program telah direalisasikan pemerintah, yang semata-mata untuk melahirkan generasi bangsa yang cerdas dan berguna demi membangun nusa bangsa tercinta ini.

Upaya dan kerja keras pemerintah melalui sejumlah programnya, seperti menggulir dana BOS, beasiswa keluarga miskin, Bos Buku, insentif guru, sertifik asi guru dan program lainnya, dinilai tidak terealisasikan dengan maksimal, karena tidak didukung oleh segelintir oknum pejabat di tanah air.

Bahkan, kualitas dan mutu pendidikan yang diharapkan pemerintah untuk dapat maju, seyogiaya sulit tercapai, karena pengelolaan sejumlah program pemerintah tidak tepat sasaran.

Padahal, dalam memajukan mutu dan kualitas pendidikan, pengelolaan program-program tersebut telah diserahkan pemerintah kepada Dinas Pendidikan kabupaten/kota di masing-masing daerah.

Namun demikian, perealisasiannya dinilai tidak maksimal dikelola oleh Dinas Pendidikan.

Seperti yang terjadi saat ini di Sekolah Dasar (SD) Negeri 142715 Natal, masih temukan sejumlah siswa yang tidak dapat membaca.

Baru-baru ini, berdasarkan hasil investigasi sejumlah Lembaga Swadaya Masyarakat (LSM) dan wartawan di Kecamatan Natal Kabupaten Mandailing Natal (Madina), ternyata di SDN 142715 menemukan 2 orang siswa kelas VI tidak dapat mengenal huruf-huruf alias belum dapat membaca.

Seharusnya, temuan ini menjadi ‘pukulan keras” bagi Dinas Pendidikan Madina, yang dituding telah gagal dalam memajukan pendidikan.

“Hal ini sungguh memalukan dunia pendidikan di Mandailing Natal, karena tidak sewajarnya siswa yang telah duduk dibangku Kelas VI, tapi tidak bisa membaca,” kata salah seorang pengurus LSM di Madina yang minta namanya tidak disebutkan, kemarin.

Dalam hal ini, pihak Unit Pelaksana Tekhnis Pendidikan Kecamatan Natal beserta oknum pengawasnya dan SDN 142715 Natal harus bertanggungjawab.

“Kinerja pengawasan dan pelaksana pendidikan di Kecamatan Natal dinilai mandul, karena tidak dapat menjalankan tugasnya secara maksimal, termasuk pihak SDN 142715 Natal seyogianya tidak pernah memperhatikan para muridnya dan terkesan hanya menginginkan uang semata melalui program-program pemerintah yang realisasinya berbentuk uang dan tidak mementingkan kinerjanya apakah sudah berjalan dengan baik atau tidak,” bebernya.

Selain temuan 2 orang siswa kelas VI SDN 142715 Natal tidak bisa membaca, ternyata guru-gurunya juga sering lalai, datang dengan terlambat. Dan oknum Kepala Sekolah tersebut dituding ‘nyantai’ aja dan tidak peduli dengan kondisi sekolah yang dipimpinnya.

Menurut informasi yang didapati, oknum Kepala Sekolah tersebut tidak pernah memberikan sanksi yang keras bagi guru-gurunya yang tidak disiplin, sehingga para guru itu dengan leluasa melakukan apa saja yang ia inginkan, kendati hal itu telah melanggar koridor kedisiplinan sebagai seorang abdi negara yang makannya bergantung dari uang rakyat.

Dari temuan-temuan itu, pihak LSM secara lisan telah melaporkannya kepada Pengawas Sekolah dan Unit Pelaksana Tekhnis Pendidikan Kecamatan Natal untuk ditindaklanjuti.
Namun, seyogianya instansi pemerintah tersebut terkesan kurang serius dan bertele-tele dalam menanggapinya.

Sementara itu, salah seorang tokoh pemuda Natal, Rinto sangat menyesalkan kinerja ‘buruk’ pihak SDN 142715 Natal dan oknum Pengawas beserta Pelaksana Tekhnis Pendidikan Kecamatan Natal, di mana masih ditemukannya 2 orang siswa kelas VI SDN tersebut yang tidak bisa membaca.

“Sudah jelas siswa-siswa itu tidak bisa membaca, tapi mengapa juga mereka bisa duduk dibangku kelas VI, berarti gurunya sama halnya ‘goblok’, karena tidak bisa menilai dan membaca kondisi siswanya sendiri,” katanya.

Menurutnya, penemuan itu akan bisa mencederai dunia pendidikan di Natal, di mana ketika ia nanti keluar dari sekolah tersebut tidak bisa membaca.

“Ini sungguh telah memalukan Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten Mandailing Natal, berarti oknum Kepala Sekolah SDN 142715 Natal beserta guru-gurunya dinilai tidak becus dalam menjalankan tugasnya dengan baik dan perlu ditindak tegas”, ujarnya.

Untuk itu, kata Rinto, diharapkan kepada Pihak-pihak yang terkait agar menyikapi hal ini secara berkompeten, dengan mengkaji kembali atau bahkan menindak tegas oknum Kepala SDN 142715 Natal beserta guru-gurunya dan unit Pelaksana Tekhnis Pendidikan Kecamatan Natal serta pengawasnya, dalam melaksanakan tugasnya secara disiplin, demi kemajuan pendidikan di Natal khususnya di tanah air. I love spaghetti squash, and served it with a homemade heirloom tomatoe and roasted garlic sauce that I made in the summer and froze. Yellow and orange sweet potatoe were roasted with a touch of butter and fresh sage from the garden. Slightly bitter dandelion greans were tossed with an olive and truffle oil dressing and sprinkled with roasted squash seeds. Metropolitan made the bread, and an unpictured apple crisp lay in wait for later, when we ate it the hot cider and whiskey. B ad game, delicious dinner.
