Pra quem não conheçe ainda, esse vídeo do youtube mostra a jogabilidade avançada do jogo. Vale lembrar que é exclusivo para PS3.

Personagens secundários normalmente servem de suporte à trama e não tem muita expressividade. Poucos são os games em que realmente houve um cuidado maior na criação dos personagens de apoio, uma preocupação em torná-los carismáticos e memoráveis. Um bom exemplo é a série Metal Gear Solid, recheada de secundários bacanas, que ficam marcados em nossos corações (que meigo isso!). Drebin, de Metal Gear Solid 4, é um deles.

Diferente da maioria dos “caras das armas” nos games, Drebin tem um jeitão descolado, visual brega-fashion-do-gueto-hip-hop-bling-bling e vive acompanhando por seu simpático (e irritante) macaquinho de estimação, o Little Gray. Além de ajudar Snake desbloqueando e vendendo armamentos, o homem misterioso dá dicas do enredo (se você prestar bem atenção) e conta o passado trágico de cada uma das mulheres da unidade Beauty & The Beast. No final, você ainda se surpreende ao descobrir o verdadeiro papel que ele teve na história do jogo.

Um dos aspectos mais legais do personagem é a maneira como ele fala, todo cheio de ginga e malemolência, só querendo ser o “cool” (rs). O responsável por sua voz é o ator americano Khary Payton, cara simpático que já dublou diversos games e desenhos animados. O moço concedeu uma entrevista bacana ao GoW, que vocês podem conferir abaixo.

ENTREVISTA

1 – Você era gamer antes de entrar para o universo da dublagem de games? Se sim, que tipo de jogos gostava/gosta de jogar?

Na verdade, não. Eu só joguei Madden Football ocasionalmente e não sou tão bom em shooters. Eu tento jogar os games em que trabalhei pra poder me ouvir e aprender como melhorar. Também jogo alguns em que meus amigos trabalharam, como God of War. Grande jogo!

2 – Conte-nos um pouco sobre seu background profissional e como você entrou para o mundo da dublagem, especialmente de games.

Eu comecei fazendo teatro em Dallas, Texas, onde fiz faculdade antes de me mudar para LA. Fiz programas de TV, filmes e comerciais por uns dois anos, quando consegui meu primeiro teste de dublagem para um desenho chamado Teen Titans. Tive sorte e consegui o trabalho! Foi assim que eu comecei na dublagem. Qualquer ator vai te dizer que dublagem é o mundo mais difícil de se conseguir entrar. Você tem que continuar tendo fé e correndo atrás. Kris Zimmerman que me selecionou pro meu primeiro papel em videogames, em LA, como um coronel africano na série Syphon Filter.

3 – Você dublou desenhos, certo? Qual a diferença entre dublar um desenho e um jogo de videogame?

Muitas vezes, nos desenhos, você está em um estúdio com os outros atores, então é bem interativo. Fazer videogames também é divertido, mas você normalmente está na cabine sozinho. Para MGS4, David Hayter e eu ficamos juntos no estúdio na maior parte do tempo. Foi muito legal.

4 – Como foi o processo de seleção para MGS4?

Minha garota, Kris Zimmerman, me chamou e trabalhamos na voz juntos. Ela já tinha me usado em muito games antes. Kris está entre os melhores diretores de dublagem no ramo. Algumas semanas depois eu recebi a ligação de que havia sido selecionado.

5 – Você teve algum contato prévio com a série MGS, antes de trabalhar nela?

Eu conhecia, mas não tinha idéia do quão grande a franquia era! Quando o jogo saiu, fui convidado pra um evento em Hollywood. A fila de pessoas dobrava a esquina! Nós autografamos games e PS3 por horas!

6 – E o proceso de gravação da voz, como foi? Você pode nos contar um pouco sobre a atmosfera durante o trabalho, como era a rotina diária, o relacionamento com o elenco, essas coisas?

Como eu disse, eu havia trabalhado com a Kris várias vezes e sempre nos divertimos muito juntos. Ela pode simplesmente me lançar um olhar ou um gesto e eu vou saber exatamente o que ela precisa que eu faça. David foi demais na cabine. Ele é muito inteligente (óbvio) e bem calmo. Também pude conhecer Ryan Payton (que não é parente, apesar do mesmo sobrenome), um dos produtores, que também é ótimo. Fazer a voz deste personagem foi bem diferente da maioria. Primeiro eu fui, é claro, o cara das armas e um certo alívio cômico. Meio sério, mas muito divertido. Então eu comecei a contar as histórias das “Beauty & The Beast”. De repente eu estou nesse clima pesado e sombrio falando sobre as jornadas horríveis dessas mulheres. Tive muito com o que “brincar”.

7 – Seu personagem, Drebin, o que você pensa dele? Vocês compartilham semelhanças, em termos de personalidade?

Ha! Ele é um cara muito descolado. Apesar disso, não acho que somos muito similares. Ele é meio quieto. Eu sou meio barulhento. Ele tem aquela coisa meio loira… eu me mantenho natural. O macaco dele não tem cabelo. Meu macaco é… hum… deixa pra lá. Ele na verdade se parece um pouco com meu irmão!

8 – Os jogos da série MGS são notórios por suas dublagens de qualidade, consideradas um diferencial na indústria. O que você pensa disso?

Eu fico feliz por Drebin ter sido tão bem recebido. Esta é uma série muito grande, eu não queria estragá-la.

9 – Você tem parentes ou amigos que sejam fãs da série MGS? Como eles lidam com o fato de que agora você faz parte dela? Ele te pedem para falar na voz do Drebin, ocasionalmente?

Eu fui a um casamento e meu primo me perguntou que jogos eu tinha feito. Eu mencionei MGS4 e ele esbugalhou os olhos! Ele correu, chamou um amigo e me implorou pra “falar como o Drebin”. Outro amigo meu, que está vivendo na Coréia, me achou no Facebook porque ouviu minha voz no jogo. Muito doido!

10 – Podemos esperar ouvir mais de Khary Payton num futuro próximo? Você está envolvido em algum projeto de games que possa nos contar?

Recentemente eu estou produzindo um filme chamado “The Last Push” e fazendo alguns trabalhos de TV em séries como Criminal Minds e Medium. Em termos de videogame, vocês podem me ouvir em The Sims 3, SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Resistance 2, No More Heroes 2, Tom Clancy’s Endwar e alguns outros que não posso falar agora. Então fiquem ligados.

11 – Há quaisquer papéis, seja em dublagem ou atuação, que você gostaria de ter interpretado, ou queira interpretar no futuro?

Não sei… Hamlet! Cyrano!:-) Eu consegui dublar tantos dos meus personagens favoritos de HQs, não posso reclamar. Só quero continuar trabalhando em projetos legais com pessoas ótimas. Eu tenho muita sorte de estar fazendo o que amo.

12 – Você já esteve em nosso país? Se sim, o que achou? Se não, gostaria de visitar algum dia?

Eu ADORARIA visitar o Brasil! Na verdade tenho alguns parentes distantes em Florianópolis!

As Sony slowly increase the number of sales of the  Playstation 3 (thanks to Playstation 3 slim), the PS3 is becoming more and more unique and the term ‘but it has blu-ray’ is lost in time.

SOOOOOO, Facebook and twitter are coming to the Playstation. about time really.

I don’t know about you, but, I have wanted to show of my trophies to my Facebook friends for a longgg time! (yes, that is sad)

also; cross game voice chat.    We all want it, we all need it.  Imagine playing MGS4 whilst speaking to your best friend who is playing uncharted 2……  yeah imagine!

Final Fantasy VIII – The Extreme (Black Mages Ver.) [PS1]

This is the one that instigated this particular post. I was looking up tour dates for Video Games Live, then YouTubing some of their past performances when I came across some live Black Mages stuff. Man, they rock it out. I own their first two CDs, so I hadn’t heard any other tracks of theirs. Until this one! I’m actually replaying FF VIII now, so it made this even better!

Final Fantasy X – Via Purifico (Piano Ver.) [PS2]

Okay, so technically this is NOT the original song, but from the FFX Piano Collection CD. It’s so beautiful! I listen to this track quite a bit at work to just generally keep calm around a bunch of idiots.

Final Fantasy Legend 2  – Save the World [Game Boy]

Final boss music doesn’t “work” for me unless it has a certain feel. I can’t describe it any better than “no second chances, if we fail now everyone we know will die.” That particular emotional connect with me happens in the first 10 seconds of this track. It’s from a friggin’ Game Boy, too! I mean, damn.

Lost Odyssey – Dark Saint [Xbox 360]

Dear Mistwalker – Please make another game that isn’t Blue Dragon-related. See how amazing Odyssey turned out? WANT MOAR!

Let’s end on an emotional note. If you’ve never played MGS4, you may want to play the ENTIRE DAMN SERIES so it’ll make sense. This song is the culmination of 20 years of suspense and cliffhangers for me. Literally – 20 years. Metal Gear came out when I was wee lil’ gamer.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – Love Theme [PS3]

There’s got to be a word for this punch-in-the-gut feeling this song gives me. It’s sad, but on a level I can’t really describe. This might be – and probably is – because I’m directly connecting it with the moment in the game where the song is played (arguably one of the greatest gaming moments ever). This track makes me think “we’re going to fail, things are going to get bad for those left behind, now they’re on their own.” It’s strange how I can’t connect music to emotions – I have to connect them to fictional events that I make in my head. Perhaps that’s due to how emotionally and structurally complex music can be. It can’t be easily simplified.

I just realized that Nobuo Uematsu was three of my choices. Must be good, right?

Mam całkowitą słabość do koszulek. Przyznaję się bez bicia.

Ciągle na coś poluje w chorej potrzebie powiększania tylko mi przydatnej garderoby. Pff, czuję się jak bym miał jakąś wersję ADHD. Ale nic. Celem był Amazon.com. Tam też upolowałem sobie koszulkę z jednym z moich ulubionych tematów. MGS. Szybka wysyłka. Miła niespodzianka po zapracowanym weekendzie. W łącznej cenie około 22 dolarów.

Odskocznia. Może i chora jest. Nie wiem. Nie tłumaczę się przed nikim. Teraz, gdy świeci mi przed oczyma wyjazd, a właściwie powrót do kraju, zaczynam zwracać uwagę na takie błahostki. Błahostki. Prawda, ale sprawiają mi jakąś małą przyjemność.

Ever play Metal Gear Solid 4? Well, if you did you know that one of the most fun aspects of the game is being able to blend into any environment with Snake’s “octocamo” suit. Well, apparently the artist by the name of Lui Bolin wanted to do the same thing. Only problem? There is no such thing as an octocamo suit… Turns out it didn’t bother him one bit and he went on to still create some CRAZY photos. Check it:

I don’t know about you but if I was walking and I turned and saw this man I would FREAK THE FUCK OUT. This guy could easily be in a horror movie. More pics under the cut!

Sloooooow Traaaaains

Imagine walking down the street when all of a sudden you think you saw something standing in front of a car. You pay no attention to it when you double take back just to check your sanity. You look back when all of sudden you realize there is a man there and he then runs at you maintaing his stoic expression. FML.

You cannot argue with the power of Blu-Ray. PS3 owners can hold 25GB of data for a game whereas 360 owners only get 12GB. This means the PS3 has better looking games, bigger games and better games overall. You can’t deny it, Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 would have to be put onto about 20 discs for it to play on the 360. And even then it wouldn’t look as good as it does on the PS3 – The graphics would have to be drastically toned down so that the 360 wouldn’t go into cardiac arrest.

The new PS3 Slim

In the market for a new system? Having owned both  since their respective launch dates, i can safely say you should get a Playstation 3. Why Storekeeper i hear you say? Following are my reasons on why to get a PS3 instead:

1. Though the Xbox 360 does have a fairly large database of games, i honestly believe the PS3 has a better gaming catalogue based on quality. Especially with Sony’s in house software house which produces games like the new upcoming God of War, and Naughty Dog’s Unchartered 2 out 13 October 2009, and not to mention classics like Game of the Year 2008 Metal Gear Solid 4 you can’t go wrong. Halo is so like Lady Gaga, everyone just wants you to disappear now.

2. I’ve had to bury 4 Xbox 360’s because of the doomed Red Rings of Death. First Playstation 3, still kicking and screaming. I don’t care if the new 360’s don’t fail, you’ve still failed in my eyes microsoft for launching a faulty product. Come time for the new Xbox, i’ll wait 3 years first.

3. Bluray movies kick ass.

4. Killzone 2 anyone?

5. PS3 rumble remote controller is out of this world when playing fighting or first person shooter games.

6. Free Online Multiplayer for PS3. Microsoft it’s time to stop charging me 49.99$ a year to play online. Especially since in the first place I bought that game for another 59.99$.

7. Better graphics on the PS3. In gaming, that matters a lot.

With the new price cut on the PS3, which is now priced at 299.99$, its a lot better if you invest in a PS3. Just my thoughts.

My first non-car related post!

I’m posting about this T-shirt that I bought simply because how much I love it and the things it came with, it felt like Christmas.
I’m quite the Metal Gear Solid fan so as soon as I saw this shirt on MGS TUS (metalgearsolid.org) I had to get it. Not only is the T-shirt high quality, comfortable and well made but it’s the little details that got me. As this T-shirt is made by fans I really wasn’t expecting this better than any online retail shop quality.

Aswell as a good T-shirt and fast shipping this is what I got:

Fun! That’s what this weekend was.

I was there all 3 days – and all for free. I volunteered for 2 short nights (Friday & Saturday) at a D&D info table – basically, soliciting random people to play D&D and other roleplaying games.

I dressed up in the usual Commander Keen costume, and this time a lot of people tried out my pogo stick, and I even made an entire video for it!

Hideo Kojima, The Man behind Metal Gear has dictated an open letter to all the Jeff Albertsons around the world. Eh-em, his fans, I mean his fans!

There will be a sequel, and it will be magnificent.

The name of the game?  ”Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker” kinda like Walker, Texas Ranger, only without the beards or the punishing roundhouse kicks.

This upcoming game is apparently huge as it is a full-fledged title requiring “hundreds of hours to complete,” meaning that the game had better be real good.

Kojima is racking up the work hours as we speak. According to him, he’s going to be involved in all aspects of this project. Gameplay, design, artistic direction, story; everything is tightly knit under his Baskin Robbins shirt.

As for the story…
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker is set in the 70s in a very exotic Costa Rica, close to a decade after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3. The plot is going to be deeper and decidely grit-ti-er as we’re going to see Solid Snake question his purpose in the war when he’s defending a nation without the help of a military.

Existential Crisis

But GASP! The game’s going to be on a freaking PSP. I know what you’re thinking, crap graphics. But Kojima affirms his attention to the game’s look by saying, “we don’t plan on making any compromises with the graphics.” He assures the fanbase that the art team has been “producing PS3 quality” games for so long, that it will make you “wonder if this is really a PSP game.”

To make this whole deal even sweeter, Kojima tells us that the game will have stuff unique to the PSP system and a different gameplay system. So let’s hope it doesn’t mean strategy.

Wow I’ve been absent from the blogosphere for a while^^ Never announced who I ordered so will do that and other stuff that’s happening to my real world.

Been a week since I posted and noticed a considerable drop in views, giving up on me already? ^^ But the reason is my computer has problems and just restarts by itself at random times. Said something was wrong with the drives or something, tried cleaning the drives, scanning my computer for viruses and even restored it to an earlier time but nothing prevented it from happening. Got annoying so I stayed off for a while^^ Also got this game which kept me happy and busy for the past week =3

But the computer is what kept me from getting on and don’t know if it’ll reset while I’m writing this, so far it’s good. Also been practicing my guitar more and its been keeping me off the comp aswell^^ But I’ll probably won’t blog as much now that school’s starting and as long as this computer keeps resetting:/ but we’ll see^^

I haven’t got anything done as far as photography or Sakura.FM. Storms been raging this past month but things have quieted down, though I think a tropical storm/hurricane is gonna come soon. That’s what you get for living in Florida:/ I did get a 2GB SD card for my camera, so now I don’t have to take second trips or worry about keeping the best ones^^ The one I previously had was only 32MB ‘o’ But I did order my Nendoroid and she should be here ether this week or the next. And the Nendoroid I ordered is *Drum roll* Nendoroid…

Kagamiku!!!

Yeah decided to go with her since she was the one I wanted to get after all^^ Surprisingly most of you voted for Maritan, guess you guys like hotheads. Was going to get Shana though, but bout the time I decided she was out of stock and still is:/ Had a great story for when she met Sakura -_- But most likely I’ll get all the Nendoroids I mentioned in time eh so don’t be sad So Kagami will be Sakura’s first sister Both like to cosplay so it’s fitting^^

For those wondering where I’m ordering from I’ve now switched to Otaku Fuel. Way cheaper than Anime King (In Nendoroids case, would cost me around $50 for a Shana nend O.O) and many more figures in stock, not to mention the power to Pre-order Though I’ll still hang around AK for gunpla or other stuff, plus Ak has faster shipping than OF, takes 3 days for AK and I ordered Kagami on last Friday so…a week and a few days for OF:/

Meet Makoto everyone^^ I guess you can call him my first son since Sakura’s me first daughter but yup my first cat ever and I’m loving it, he’s so hyperactive and plays/claws at everything that moves xD Don’t really know how old he is but I think the owner said about 3-5 months, not sure:/ Still need to get him all the shots and flea remover, mum was thinking to de-claw him because he jumps on everything and goes on the kitchen table when we’re eating, not to mention the tiny scratch marks he puts on me. She was also thinking neutering him because they spray when they get older, but it sounds painful >.> but better than having goo everywhere ‘o’

Well that’s about it for updates on me, just wanted to announce who I was getting and why I’ve been gone for a while, probably gonna just put up Hinata’s photoshoot since I don’t think outdoor shots are gonna happen at the moment:/ Next post is Kagami’s arrival^^

Bueno, ahora que por fin me hice de mi gordito, lo primero que hice fue correr por el MGS4, de paso renté Lair, lo primero que llamo mi atención es lo voluminoso y pesado del PS3, que en verdad esta gordito, pero su tamaño y peso es razonable considerando que tiene la fuente de alimentación adentro, a diferencia del 360, que está mas delgadito pero su fuente es como para alimentar una feria entera.

Despues de prenderlo y configurar la conexion a la red, lo puse a bajar la actualización del firmware. Hice mi perfil y me dispuse a entrar a la PS Store y a Home, y me encontre con mi primer sorpresa: Home aun no esta en México, y aqui es donde acudo a ustedes o a algun geek que me diga como puedo hacerle para entrar a Home, puedo poner la dirección de la Casa Blanca?? o la que viene en el cereal?

Y bueno, suponiendo que ya hice mi perfil gringo, ahora, sobre la Store, me imagino que solo se podrá usando trajetas, tengo que comprar una que sea para la Store de EU? o puede ser cualquiera? ya con una cuenta de EU podré entrar al Home?

Quiero tener una vieja virtual de buen cabuz

Ya en el dashboard, noté que es como un PSP pero en grande XD, se ve chingon. Como mi primo estaba ass on fire por el Lair (se quedó con ganas desde el EGS donde se anunció al PS3), le dí gusto y lo pusimos, pero necesitaba una acutlización que pesa 174MB, asi que la cancelamos y lo dejamos para mejor ocasion.

Las gráficas son aceptables para un juego que vino con el lanzamiento de la consola, y considerando la cantidad de elementos que llegan a estar en panatalla. El control con el sixaxis es algo confuso, y a veces la dragona hace lo que se le da la gana. Faltó pulirlo un poco, no se si esto se mejore con la actualización, pero fue un buen intento de combinar el sixaxis con el control convencional.

Disponiendose a rostizar algunos soldados

Toda la ambientación, la narración, diálogos, etc recuerda mucho al Señor de Los Anillos. Nos aventamos unas 4 fases. Ahora venía lo bueno: MGS4

Aqui me encontre con otra sorpresa: el juego se tiene que instalar, sí o sí. Mientras eso sucede (unos 10 minutos) vemos a Old Snake echandose un tabaco (se empuja como 4)

Habiendo terminado la instalación, empieza la carga, tienes la opción de ver algunos canales, entre ellos uno interesante sobre pulpos =D

Por fin, la pantalla de Press Start Button, mientras Snake esta en un panteón. ¿a quien visita? ¿por que le da el saludo militar? A continuación la excelsa introducción, cinemas impactantes y al fin, manejar a Snake, solo pude jugar un rato por que ya estaba por dar las 2 a.m.

OMFG! MGS4 Sí, un año después ! (fumar es causa de cancer y enfisema pulmonar)

Gráficas que me impresionaron, excelente jugabilidad, un sin fin de detalles. Sin duda sera un juego que me mantendra ocupado durante un buen rato.

Bueno, mi PSN ID es WESSITOSS, luego pongo la que saque de EU, ojala puedan ayudarme con las dudas y si pueden, recomendarme juegos chidos que sean exclusivos de PS3

There has been alot of speculation on the whole MGS4 receiving trophies or not… Well the rumor is still going on, but at least we have this statement.

The latest Kojima Productions Podcast, Sean Eyestone talks about the trophy issue.

“Just to address one issue that we’ve been getting a lot of comments about. And this is, of course, about trophies.”
“I just wanna tell everybody out there right now that your voices are being heard and that we’re not ignoring you. We hear everything that you are saying. It’s just that we can’t say anything just yet.
But as soon as we have something to say, we will announce it. So, if we can just ask everyone to just be patient, we will give you an answer. But right now we can’t say anything. So we just ask for everyone’s understanding with that and just ask for everybody to remain patient and we’ll let you know.”
