Approximately 3 years ago, my fellow Kodak Theatre co-worker, Seth Maxwell talked about a charity he wanted to start to create solutions for the world water crisis.  I kept thinking back to that moment in our break room and just nodding my head.  The plans sounded grand and ambitious.  Now, fast forward to June 28, 2011 as I sit in the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton.  The charity has raised over a million dollars and has created a clean water solution for over 50,000 people.  It makes me so proud to call Seth a friend.

He inspired me to donate money to help build a well in Niger where children regularly drink dirty and contaminated water by their school.  It’s hard to imagine, especially since I have a cat who drinks filtered water.  Does that seem fair?  Clean water is a right and if you are moved to donate, feel free to visit the Thirst Project page.

Tonight, I am honored to be hosting the red carpet portion of the live stream for the 2nd Annual Thirst Project Gala.  I hope you all have an opportunity to join me and the incredible celebrity hosts of the evening, Chyler Leigh of Grey’s Anatomy and JR Bourne of Teen Wolf as The Thirst Project brings awareness to the plight of close to 1 billion people not having access to clean, safe drinking water.  Here are some of the stats:

1 in 8: The number of people who do not have access to clean drinking water

4500:  The number of children who die every day from diseases caused by contaminated water. (Approximately 1 child every 15 seconds.)

3.75 Miles:  The average distance a woman walks to collect water.  This task often falls upon young girls leaving them no time or energy for an education.

So, join me on this important evening as we honor Michael Welch from The Twilight Saga for his time, energy, and dedication to such a wonderful cause.

Phew… after a 3 weeks dry spell I finally got another success. A neat addition for two of my collection, NCIS and Twilight. I have to say, though, in Twilight his role is okay, but in the one NCIS episode he really demonstrated his talent. “Bait” is still one of my favourite episodes.

I added one full scan to the NCIS section and the other one to the Twilight section.

No measure of time with you will be long enough, but we will start with forever …

I will admit at first, I didn’t know what Twilight was or had even read the book but it seemed to be a huge deal to everyone else. A cousin of mine told me, “You have to check out this movie Twilight and this guy in it is so hot.” I was curious because I had seen the previews but didn’t know exactly what  it was so she let me borrow the movie so I could see it….oh my God, what did I do that for?

I went from not knowing a thing about the Twilight Saga to reading all the books, keeping track of when the next movie would be out, any news that even mention Twilight or the people from the movies, I knew about it and writing this lovely blog about everything I could possibly find on Twilight.

Kristen, Robert and Taylor have done an amazing job bringing this world to life for us on the big screen. Stephenie Meyer has written a story that will take its place with other classic love stories of its time. Vampires and werewolves take on a whole new meaning and take us to a different world of imagination.

Breaking Dawn, both parts, will be amazing. I think it will smash records from theaters to DVD sales and I would hope that they would put it on DVD because there will be a lot of people really, really upset. The Twilight Saga is a beautiful love story that will go on forever and I will continue to follow these characters because they have ‘imprinted’ on my life and the billions of fans worldwide and only people who have seen the movies or read the books will get what I’m saying.

I will be sad to see this story end but if I want to relive this story all over again, I can pop in a movie or read the entire series again and again. Thank you to everyone involved for bringing this story to life for us.

However; I promised you, my gentle readers and video watchers, that I would post about charities from Dec. 1st under Christmas. Here is a video of Michael Welch introducing his Five Buck Club to benefit The Thirst Project.  He says if he can get 5,000 of his fans to join, he’ll take one to Africa with him to drill a well.  I’m joining his club, but if I’m picked – I’ll send my niece in my place.

There is a lot of unfairness out in the world. Things we take for granted can be really hard to get in another place in the world, like water for example.

What if you for $5 could save someone’s life, would you do it?

1,1 billion people lack access to improved water supply.

Between 1,085,000 and 2,187,000 deaths due to diarrhoeal diseases can be attributed to the ‘water, sanitation and hygiene’ risk factor, 90 percent of them among children under five.

Every fifteen second a child dies from water related diseases.

What if you could help these people? The would won’t improve itself, it’s us that have to change. It takes $20 to provide one person with clean water for the rest of its life.

Michael Welch from Twilight (He plays Mike Newton) is teaming up with The Thirst project to build wells. I know that a lot of people don’t like Twilight, but that is not the topic, this it about saving human lives and it’s great that the Twilight actors uses their fame to something good. Charity is a great thing to put focus on for famous people, and it might show people that we need to take action.
$5 isn’t that much, not to us who lives in a rich country. It probably means that you have to drop your snack or soda, or in my case I have to bring my lunch with me to school instead of buying it there for a day. But those $5 can help other humans.

Please support this project, just to help someone else for once, you’ll feel good about it.
