Last night saw the third instalment for 2013 of Rosie Peaches‘ 60s burlesque shindigs at The H

Last night saw the third instalment for 2013 of Rosie Peaches‘ 60s burlesque shindigs at The Hideaway. Surf’s Up, Baby! was a great night out, as always (see the photos here).

The show was started with a fantastic, bar-top gogo dance from Rosie Peaches herself. She was dressed in a men’s shirt and then took her time to strip down to a vintage-inspired swimsuit. Rosie is a crazy ball of energy in all of her performances. She shakes so fast that she’s almost a blur.

Next was a Rosie’s regular, Red Devotchkin with a super cute routine set to ‘Good Ship Lollypop’. Miss Devotchkin was recently crowned Miss Perfect Pinup for QLD and those who witnessed her performance last night could see why. Her figure alone is too die for, and match that with her gorgeous wardrobe (her suspender straps were embellished with cute little anchors).

The first act was finished off with a hilarious duo from Rosie and newcomer to the scene, Nova Grinds. The routine started off with Miss Grinds spending a lovely day at the beach before catastrophe strikes in the form of Rosie the shark! The routine is finished off with the girls joining forces to shimmy, shake and delight the audience.

After a short interval, the audience’s eyes were welcomed back to both stage (front and back) by a group of bodacious babes from the The Bombshells Burlesque and Beauty Academy. Betty Lovecat, Nova Grinds, Atomique Lotus and Miss Michelle took to the stage as beautiful beach bunnies in their cossies. They bumped, grinded and gogo-ed their way into the audience’s hearts.

Lucky for the audience, Red Devotchkin returned to the stage as a drunken barfly. Having seen this act by Red a few times now, I have to say, it gets better every time. Red always has so much energy and is so graceful on the stage that she makes every performance feel like you’re seeing it again for the first time.

The night was capped off with a Gidget homage from Miss B B le Buff, headmistress of Miss B B le Buff’s School of Performance. This routine was brilliant, not just because of the surf board prop, complete with blue silk sea water and dangling pantyhose legs, but because of the infectious smile and fun that B B brings to the stage whenever she performs.

Then to put the perfect cherry on top of the perfect cupcake, Little Odessa played a rockin’ set. In fact, it was so rockin’ that Marlon (lead singer, guitar) broke his guitar!! Now that’s rock and ***ing roll!!

The monthly Rosie Peaches shows at The Hideaway are a Brisbane-must! As in you must, must, MUST go and see it! Or basically, you suck! And you’re missing out one of the best monthly shows Brisbane city has to offer.

Make sure you ‘like’ Rosie’s page on Facebook to get all the updates regarding her shows and to follow her wacky adventures!

Three British modern pentathletes have reached the final of the opening World Cup event of the 2012

Three British modern pentathletes have reached the final of the opening World Cup event of the 2012 season at Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mhairi Spence is one of the British trio through to Saturday’s World Cup final in North Carolina.

Samantha Murray led the way with a convincing win in semi-final A over Germany’s 2008 Olympic gold medallist Lena Schoneborn and America’s Michelle Kelly.

Great Britain team-mates Mhairi Spence and Heather Fell advanced from semi-final C, with Spence coming third and Fell seventh.

Freyja Prentice fell agonisingly short, though, coming 13th when only the top 12 went through to the final.

‘I’m really happy to have qualified,’ said Murray afterwards.

‘I had a bit of a shaky start in the fence, but I pulled back up the field with my strong swim and my combined was really good. I’m really pleased and I’m looking forward to Saturday’s final.’

The size of the field meant there had to be three semi-finals, which Spence said was an unusual experience.

‘It was quite strange having three semi-finals, we’ve only done it once before,’ she said.

‘It meant everyone raised their game for the semi-final. It was good to have a really good run out at the first World Cup of the year.

‘I’m feeling good and I’m excited to be here.’

Officials have backed a driving examiner who failed a woman on her test after she splashed a pedestrian by driving through a puddle.

Mother-of-two Michelle Kelly, from Blackley, Manchester, had to keep her L-plates after the examiner refused to give her a pass.

What the driving test may have looked like

Instead he told her she should have stopped to exchange details with the man she splashed, who was waiting at a bus stop near the puddle.
