After Edward and Bella begin to see each other, following his saving her life in Port Angeles (Chapter 8), they begin to get honest with each other: Edward divulges who he really is (Chapter 9, Devotional #8), and Bella begins to divulge her true self and feelings for him.

In these chapters (9 & 10), we begin to see the differences in perspective, point-of-view, that makes them unique and which allow them to complete each other.

1) Edward is a true gentleman and therefore, defers to Bella’s judgment. Bella, however, is aggressive when she knows what she wants. When he steps back, she steps forward. (p. 197)

2) Edward, being eternal, sees the world, and human love, from a timeless perspective. Any investment he makes in a relationship takes on much greater significance: Stephenie Meyer’s vampires mate for life, and they never “get over” the loss of that love if it comes. Bella, being human (and a child of divorce) sees relationships as a too-often-temporary event, and therefore, won’t enter one lightly. Both are extremely selective in whom they love. Their individual perspectives allow for a perfect merging of hearts.

3) Both are a puzzle, and are endlessly curious. Over the course of the series, they spend huge amounts of time simply getting to know one another.

4) Edward can hear everyone’s thoughts in the world, except Bella’s. This is what actually sparks his desire to learn more about her. Without this catalyst, he may not have found her as quickly, and the story may have gone much differently.

5) He is strong and graceful, she is weak and clumsy.

In the rest of the series, even more personal traits emerge, and are proved to be a kind of fateful providence in the story arc. Things about Bella which, always perceived as purposeless quirks, things which she felt held her back, actually proved to be her strengths.

Independently, both Edward and Bella had traits and points-of-view which didn’t serve them too well, or were unbalanced. This is because they were only half of the equation. When the two halves came together, the supernatural and the natural, those traits came into balance and began to make sense.

How much of us do we not appreciate, or understand? Tons, probably. But we need to realize that we were custom made the way we are for a reason. Had Bella not been clumsy, or mentally silent, or selfless enough to move to Forks from her home in Phoenix, the story wouldn’t have happened. Both characters come through so much adversity and negativity to emerge victorious and rewarded for their trouble.

Remember that things which seem random or even detrimental may ultimately be for your good. God is always working toward that (Romans 8:28), even if it may be unpleasant at the time.

Twilight Chapter 9

Edward is well acquainted with his faults. However, he’s spent so much time obsessing over them (approximately 85-90 years), without the benefit of “sleeping it over” and has been mentally poisoned by his own idealism.
As the passage illustrates, he is obviously concerned for Bella’s safety (or lack thereof) by her being so close to him, he’s petrified that he will kill her. The upside is that Edward has an excellent level of self-awareness, but a very poor level of self-trust.

It’s important to know yourself, but you must know what good you are capable of, not only the evil. Truth be told, throughout the series, Edward is constantly having to reassure Bella of his undying affection for her (she sees herself as an awkward, average, ugly-duckling of a human, whilst beholding his “inhumanly beautiful” grace and beauty), but she must constantly reiterate her faith in his soul, of his internal beauty which he no longer believes in.

This is indicative of our relationship with God in two ways: to Bella, Edward is the supernatural lover of her soul. He loves her in her frail humanity, but holds the promise of everlasting life. To Edward, Bella represents so much more than a chance at love. She is his chance for redemption, grace, a chance to reclaim his lost humanity, Bella is Edward’s supposedly “lost” soul. In Genesis terms, she is the fruit of the tree of life, able to undo the internal damage wrought by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (symbolically speaking, of course).
How do we know that Edward is not beyond this redemption? In his own words, he “doesn’t want to be a monster.”
We are all Bella and we are all Edward. We all battle sin, condemnation, and self-judgment. The important thing to realize is the reason behind what we do: we don’t want to be monsters. We want to be saved from ourselves, and that is possible.

Stephenie Meyer om The Midnight sun:

I’ve found that there really isn’t any answer I can give that changes the substance or tenor of the myriads of requests, pleadings, and demands I get for Midnight Sun to be finished, so I feel a little silly answering that question at all. But it’s the most popular question, so I’ll take another stab at it.

I am not working on Midnight Sun now. I don’t have a plan for when I’ll get to it; I don’t know now what the right time for it will be.

In your questions, there were some erroneous conclusions about the situation which I’ll try to set straight. First, Midnight Sun is not finished and locked in a safe, waiting for me to be done angsting over the leak. If it were done, I would be throwing it on the bookstore shelves myself. I’d love to be able to give it to all the people who are anxiously waiting for it. Second, I am not upset about the leak. I haven’t been for a long time; I was over it after about three weeks. Third, and most important, I am not trying to punish anyone. Not the persons who leaked it, not the people who read the leak, nobody. As I said, it would make me very happy to be able to give it to anyone who wants it.

So why the hold up? Because it’s not finished and lying in a safe. It’s not done, and finishing it is not a simple matter of sitting down in front of my computer and typing out the words; the words have to be there in my head to type out, and right now, they’re not. I have to be in the zone to write any story, and trying to force myself into that zone is a waste of time, I’ve found. I’ll get back to Midnight Sun when the story is compelling to me again. Just because people want it so badly does not make it more write-able; kind of the opposite, actually. I need to be alone with a story to write, and Midnight Sun feels really crowded, if you know what I mean.

I’m one of the people that are “obsessed” with Twilight. Last year when the first movie came out and everybody told me that they loved it and that I had to see it, I just laught. I didn’t think that a movie about vampires could be THAT good. I first saw it in June and I have seen it 6 times since. In August when I was flying home to Sweden I bought the book for the 16h plane ride home and I read all 4 books in 2 weeks and I have re-read them since. I have seen New Moon twice now and it won’t be the last time. Can’t wait for the next one this summer. I have also read the first 264 pages of Midnight Sun(5th book) that leaked online, it’s Twilight from Edward’s eyes and I understand Twilight and the Cullen family a lot better now and I like them a lot better.. didn’t know how that was possible but anyways

I feel kinda sorry for the actors tho… they are being chased around like crazy and not one moment to themselves at all but I guess that goes with the job.

I have heard many Harry Potter fans bashing  Twilight which is very funny and I love going on this site called www.mylifeisaverage.com and read all the crazy stories about this kinda stuff!

In the end the hysteria around these movies are crazy but I love it It’s all good PR! People even think the relationship between Robert and Kristen is real, which I find very funny as well.

My subconscious had dredged up exactly the images I’d been trying so desperately to avoid. I was going to have to face them now.
With another sigh, I turned on my computer. I made it to my favorite search engine and then typed in one word.

Vampire.

I found a promising site—Vampires A-Z.
The rest of the site was an alphabetized listing of all the different myths of vampires held throughout the world.
The first I clicked on, the Danag, was a Filipino vampire….The myth [said] that the Danag worked with humans for many years, but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood.

The Romanian Varacolaci, a powerful undead being who could appear as a beautiful, pale-skinned human,
the Slovak Nelapsi, a creature so strong and fast it could massacre an entire village in the single hour after midnight, and one other,
the Stregoni benefici.
About this last there was only one brief sentence.
Stregoni benefici: An Italian vampire, said to be on the side of goodness, and a mortal enemy of all evil vampires.
It was a relief, that one small entry, the one myth among hundreds that claimed the existence of good vampires.

Twilight, Chapter 7

Good and evil can be highly subjective terms, especially when fictitious supernatural creatures are involved. That’s because fantasy pushes our current reality out of the picture, forcing us to examine the fantasy world independently of the real world. This is why stories are so special and effective at teaching us truths, why Jesus employed parables so relentlessly: stories get past our dogmas and mental walls to the heart of the issue, what is true and what is false.

In this case, the story is showcasing a fictitious history of a fictitious race of blood drinkers. The entire history of their species is line after line of sad treachery and horrific murder. But there is one entry which speaks hope: the Stregoni benefici. The good, moral, (or sinless) vampire.

What does that matter? Everything. Our human history, if viewed or read by an outsider, a space alien or perhaps a cow bound for a steakhouse, could be assessed similarly: we are a race of people who domineer each other, hate those of different color, murder our children, neglect and abuse our pets; figures like Hitler and Mao Tse Tung who were responsible for millions and millions of lost human lives and terrible wars, but they do not begin to represent our entire species. What of the ones like Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa, Abraham Lincoln, and St. Francis of Assisi? No, the individuals that make our history do not represent us all.

Incidentally, who were the Stregoni benefici in Stephenie Meyer’s story? They were in fact, only one vampire alone: Carlisle Cullen. He is the father of the “new breed,” the ones who live above the fray, above corruption, above sin. His faith in God’s redemption….even for the supposed “damned,” forged his entry in vampire history as a world-changer.

We are a fallen race, saddled with a propensity to sin. Without the single benefici (Italian for good, wholesome, benevolent, harmless) in our spiritual history: sinless Christ, we would have no hope of leaving that nature behind. This is where fiction meets truth: it only takes one entry to change the history of a species.

Algumas das perguntas que ficaram em suspenso ao término de “Lua Nova” são respondidas e novas aventuras, momentos de terror e conflito marcam “Eclipse”, o terceiro livro da série “Crepúsculo”.

Eu estava tão ansiosa para ler o livro, querendo saber o que aconteceria com Jacob e Bella (quase fui espancada por alguns porque eu sempre torci por Jacob e Bella ao invés de Edward e Bella) e não estava mais aguentando esperar a tradução brasileira chegar que pedi a minha irmã que trouxesse de Portugal, onde o livro foi lançado muito antes do que o Brasil. Como sou acostumada a ler livros de Saramago (que não permite que os seus livros ganhem adaptação nos países que falem a língua portuguesa) não estranhei muito, mas confesso que li o livro novamente quando foi lançado  por aqui.

No post anterior com o resumo e a minha opinião a respeito de “Lua Nova” eu comentei que cada livro ganhou um título e uma imagem na capa que possuem um  significado por trás da história. A fita vermelha rompendo-se na capa de “Eclipse” simboliza a escolha que Bella é obrigada a fazer entre Edward e Jacob, além de passar a idéia de que ela pode acabar com sua vida como humana, sendo a autora Stephenie Meyer.

“Eclipse” é narrado ainda sobre o ponto de vista da protagonista e o ponto central é a grande batalha travada entre a vingativa vampira Victoria, o clã dos Cullen, a família Volturi e os lobisomens. Adoro esse livro especialmente porque tem mais ação, foca dando um pouco mais de atenção aos lobisomens e o leitor é apresentado a novas personagens que são cativantes e outras detestáveis. É também nele que conhecemos mais um pouco sobre a vida dos outros membros da família Cullen, como eles foram transformados e as histórias de cada um são muito interessantes.

Após o regresso da viagem feita à Itália, Bella está vivendo um castigo, está sobre condicional, imposto pelo seu pai, o policial Charlie. E os castigos, para Bella, parecem não parar por aí. Meyer faz o leitor refletir e questionar se a garota deveria mesmo se tornar uma vampira ou se seria melhor para ela viver ao lado de um lobisomem. Mesmo sabendo por quem ela optaria, eu não perdi as esperanças que ela desviasse o rumo e escolhesse Jacob. A partir de “Eclipse” a história de Bella, Edward e Jacob se torna muito mais interessante.

Bella está preocupada com fim do ensino médio que está próximo, fazendo-a refletir sobre o que fará após a conclusão e ela sente-se frustrada em alguns momentos. Está extremamente angustiada pois sabe que os Volturi querem saber se ela já se transforara em uma “sanguessuga”, mas Edward não quer que a garota se torne como ele, ainda, propondo a ela que ele a transformará quando eles se casarem.

Victoria põe em prática seu plano sórdido de vingança. Para isso começa a indiscriminadamente transformar pessoas em vampiros para formar um exército para acabar com Bella, a família Cullen e os lobisomens. O bando de “recém-criados” está à solta nas ruas de Seattle, uma cidade próxima a Forks. Os incidentes deixam Edward em estado de alerta e Bella, mais uma vez, mergulha em seus sentimentos aflitivos acreditando ser a culpada disso tudo.

Bella pede para Edward não ir para a batalha e ficar ao lado dela. Ele atende ao pedido de sua doce amada, então eles vão acampar em um lugar ao norte de onde está acontecendo a batalha. Assim como pediu a Edward que não vá a luta, Bella faz o mesmo pedido a Jacob, mas ele, empolgado e com sede de sangue, devido ao seu ódio pelos “sugadores de sangue”, diz a ela que não perderia esse acontecimento por nada no mundo. A garota então dá um beijo no rosto do amigo e diz que o ama. Ela está muito confusa em relação aos seus sentimentos e acredita que Edward fique furioso pela relação que ela tem com Jacob, mas ele se mostra bem compreensivo, aceitando a presença do rival pelo amor que sente por ela.

Diante do perigo iminente, como uma exceção pelo amor que Jacob sente por Bella e pelo amor que os Cullen sentem pela menina, os lobisomens e os vampiros, pela primeira vez, tornam-se aliados e lutarão lado-a-lado nesta batalha contra os vampiros recém-criados.

Entretanto, mesmo com a fuga dos dois, Victoria acaba descobrindo o paradeiro deles e aparece no lugar com um de seus aliados, Riley, para matar Bella. É neste momento que Seth, um jovem, simpático, solícito e fofo lobo na alcatéia, se destaca e se aproxima dos vampiros “do bem”. Seth e Edward brigam com Victiria e Riley para proteger a garota, conseguindo exterminá-los colocando fogo em seus corpos para que eles tenham realmente um fim. Concomitante a isso, em outro lugar, os lobos estavam exterminando alguns vampiros recém-criados. Na batalha, Jacob acaba se ferindo e Bella sente-se muito culpada.

Quando a batalha acaba os Volturi aparecem e acreditam na promessa de Carlisle, que ele irá transformar Bella em uma vampira. Bella vai visitar Jacob para saber do seu estado. Ela explica ao amigo que se pudesse ficaria com ele, porque também o ama, mas não conseguiria viver longe de Edward, o seu verdadeiro amor. Para alegria da garota, Jacob entende a situação de Bella e ele promete ser um bom amigo e nada mais que isso, porém ele diz que continuará esperando por ela e, se algum dia ela quiser mais do que Edward ele estará lá para ela. Edward pede Bella em casamento, que aceita e parte para casa dela para informar a Charlie a sua decisão.

Mais uma vez, o livro termina com novos suspenses, criando mais expectativas no leitor. Será mesmo que Bella se casará com Edward? Jacob realmente agirá como um mero amigo passando por cima de seus reais e sinceros sentimentos pela garota? Será que os Cullen transformarão Bella em vampira como prometeram aos Volturi?

Como é de se esperar, uma adaptação para o cinema do terceiro sucesso de Stephenie Meyer está prevista para lançar até o meio do ano que vem. Será que antes disso, teremos em mãos o livro “Midnight Sun” para saciar a ansiedade para ver o filme concluído? Espero que sim!

I watched Twilight, again. It’s the 3rd time I guess. For some guys, this movie is so gay for them. But for me, I couldn’t get bored watching it. Because a lot of things, both inside the movie and novels, have so much common with me.

I did read the novels. All of them. In my course mates’ lakeside apartment room.  Both are girls and because of the Twilight series, we’re becoming close friends. Spent most of my time after classes reading in their room this semester.

Can’t wait to watch New Moon with my friends. At the moment, I’m busy helping my younger brother with his SPM (O-level exam). I feel the pressure because I can’t remember how to do Additional Maths!!! I’m not a good example for him. Decaying each day. Ouh well, that’s life.

Last year, my mother keep asking me to read the novels. She’s a novelist as well and she knows how good a novel is. I didn’t read it, I think it was, you know, to girlie for me. And when the movie was out, I wouldn’t bother watching it.

Few days after the Twilight movie debut, I met my ex girlfriend at the library. We were few weeks broke up anyway. Then she told me that she hates the movie. Because it reminded her of me and hurts her so much.

I thought it was a joke and decided to have  a movie date with my mother (being a good son I suppose) and with my foster sisters. They were 7 of us and I was the only guy.

After watching it, I guess I understand what she was trying to say to me at the library. Edward Cullen’s personality and mine are about the same. Bear in mind, it’s ‘Edward Anthony Masen Cullen’ and not ‘Robert Thomas Pattinson’. A lot of my friends are always missing the point what I want to tell them. And I hope you are not too.

My advise to guys out there, watch Twilight series movies. Better yet, read the novels too. Especially the upcoming Midnight Sun. It would be the retelling of the events of Twilight, but written from the perspective of Edward Cullen as opposed to that of Bella Swan. You might understand females more and perhaps making you more caring towards them.

…I heard an odd sound.

It was a high-pitched screech, and it was fast becoming painfully loud. I looked up, startled.

I saw several things simultaneously. Nothing was moving in slow motion, the way it does in the movies.  Instead, the adrenaline rush seemed to make my brain work much faster, and I was able to absorb in clear detail several things at once.

Edward Cullen was standing four cars down from me, staring at me in horror. His face stood out from a sea of faces, all frozen in the same mask of shock. But of more immediate importance was the dark blue van that was skidding, tires locked and squealing against the brakes, spinning wildly across the ice of the parking lot. It was going to hit the back corner of my truck, and I was standing between them. I didn’t even have time to close my eyes.

Just before I heard the shattering crunch of the van folding around the truck bed, something hit me, hard, but not from the direction I was expecting. My head cracked against the icy blacktop, and I felt something solid and cold pinning me to the ground. (…) A groaning metallic thud hurt my ears, and the van settled, glass popping, onto the asphalt—exactly where, a second ago, my legs would have been.

In the abrupt bedlam, I could hear more than one person shouting my name. But more clearly than all the yelling, I could hear Edward Cullen’s low, frantic voice in my ear.

“Bella? Are you alright?” (…)

I had seen the deep dent in the tan car’s bumper—a very distinct dent that fit the contours of Edward’s shoulders…as if he had braced himself against the car with enough force to damage the metal frame.
Twilight - Chapter 3

Ok, so, wow. Now we know Edward isn’t entirely human. We were kind-of wondering, but now the vampire is out of the bag (or, coffin).
Imagine this: you’re staring down certain death (or at minimum, some serious crippling injuries), and out of nowhere, some super-person flies out and literally stops a 2-ton automobile.
This is what it looks like when the supernatural meets the natural. We build for ourselves strong structures: families, businesses, churches, careers, empires. But when these things falter and come spinning against us, we realize just how frail we are.

Though it seems surreal, in all of the broken glass and twisted metal of the carnal world, the supernatural stands without blemish. Things that can crush us have no hold on the Lord; the spirit realm. This is how it should be.
What we see as sturdy, strong, and immovable in our lives are really tin foil where God is concerned. Of course, immediately following divine intervention we always want to know exactly “how” it happened. And, like Edward, God often declines to explain Himself. If I were to speak for God (or Edward), I would say that He did it because He loves you; He wants you to “Be safe.” Because in all of the bedlam, as He’s watching the impending crisis, all He is thinking is “No, not you. Not her.” And that’s all you need to know right now.

When we entered the classroom, Angela went to sit at a black-topped lab table exactly like the ones I was used to. She already had a neighbor. In fact, all the tables were filled but one. Next to the center aisle, I recognized Edward Cullen by his unusual hair, sitting next to that single open seat. (…)

Just as I passed, he suddenly went rigid in his seat. He stared at me again, meeting my eyes with the strangest expression on his face—it was hostile, furious.(…)

I’d noticed that his eyes were black—coal black. (…)

At that moment, the bell rang loudly, making me jump, and Edward Cullen was out of his seat. Fluidly he rose—he was much taller than I’d thought—his back to me, and he was out the door before anyone else was out of their seat.
Twilight, Chapter 1

Readers of the saga knows what this passage means. Edward is literally fighting the urge to take Bella’s life and drink her blood. Readers of the unpublished Midnight Sun know the full extent of that struggle. Edward’s nobler, human side is horrified by the intentions of his bloodthirsty vampire nature. “Who was this creature? Why me, why now?…I didn’t want to be this monster! I didn’t want to lose everything I’d gained in a lifetime of sacrifice and denial! I wouldn’t. She couldn’t make me.”

We could call Edward conflicted, tempted. This is his worst nightmare. But the Lord doesn’t tempt humans (or vampires) beyond what they can bear.

Of course, [the teacher] no choice but to send me to the one open seat in the middle of the room. I kept my eyes down as I went to sit by him, bewildered by the antagonistic stare he’d given me.

He was leaning away from me, sitting on the extreme edge of his chair and averting his face like he smelled something bad.

During the whole class, he never relaxed his stiff position on the edge of his chair, sitting as far from me as possible. I could see his hand on his left leg was clenched into a fist.(…) This, too, he never relaxed.

What was wrong with him? (…)

“In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight!” Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help (Psalm 31:22).”

What could possibly be more tempting than “your own personal brand of heroin”? Only the love of something greater; only the love of the Father. As referenced in Midnight Sun it was the face of Edward’s father-figure, Carlisle, and his grief, that truly tames the inner monster.

It’s important to note that the sin isn’t within the temptation, it’s in the execution. When we choose to love God more than our sin, we begin to die to our sin nature; it is only then that we can be changed.

It is only later in the series that Edward realizes that it is love which cures his thirst. He overcomes the condemnation (not conviction) which plagues him, to enter into freedom and joy.

Additionally, what would have happened if Edward had succumbed to his temptation? The story would’ve been over. He never would have found love, and his happy ending.

Endure, and surrender your desires to God.

Đến tận bây h chưa cầm đc Breaking Dawn trên tay thì mình đang tự thắc mắc là đến chừng nào mình mới đc đọc Midnight Sun đây (TT___TT)

Assalamu alaikum, I remember when I was little and my dad was telling a story once about being in Alaska, and he mentioned how short the days would be, where he was in winter, and how long they’d be in summer. And I remember thinking “Wow, I’d like to go there just so I can see it be daylight at like 10 o’clock at night”, but somehow the thought of that scares me, along with the thought of it being dark all of the time in the winter. Because I’m just used to normal daylight.

And now, when I think about it, I feel sad, ’cause now I’m completely blind, and can’t see light anymore, so now I won’t be able to see the “Midnight sun” even if I were to go to Alaska. But could I still feel the “Midnight Sun” on my face/head?

And yes, I know that in many parts of Alaska they still have normal daylight, etc., although the days are extremely short in winter and extremely long in summer.

But the thought of it being perpetually daylight or perpetually dark just seems too strange for my brain to get around. And let’s not even talk about trying to ascertain prayer times, etc., although I know there are special rulings for that so it’d not be like we had to fast for 6 months or anything like that lol.

A review of Midnight Sun by Elwood Reid

I remember a conversation I once had with my friend and local musician, Dollar Dan. I’d asked him about his provincial writing style – Dan’s songs are wonderful snapshots of life growing up in rural south-east Texas, peppered with sketches of the local diners and gas stations of Dan’s hometown. What had prompted this discussion was my new-found appreciation of UK alt-rockers, The Arctic Monkeys, who’s songs are crafted in a no-compromise writing style thick with cultural references and the tight, local vernacular of their Sheffield suburb. It would seem unlikely that their work would gain traction with anyone living more than a few miles away, let alone a growing fan-base in the New World.

It’s a fascinating subject how we project our own reality onto another’s canvas. Yet when we do it makes for the best kind of art. So Dan’s philosophy? “Just write about what you know.”

Just write about what you know: Sage words indeed. A writer takes risks not when he writes too close to home, but when he strives to shed light on a reality he is unfamiliar with. And I have yet to come across a better illustration of this than the book Midnight Sun by Elwood Reid.

Reid’s second novel (I have not read his first), starts fast and cool, set against the backdrop of Fairbanks Alaska construction sites and dive bars – and I’m going to guess Reid is intimate with both. There are some great lines in these early chapters – a particular favorite of mine, “Eye fucking” – Reid’s job-site handle for checking out the ladies. The book deteriorates rapidly however as Reid over-plots a back country excursion for his narrator, Jack and wingman Burke. The two journeymen carpenters heading off the grid to accomodate a dying man’s wish to have his daughter rescued from a new-aged cult. And so as Jack and Burke paddle upstream, exchanging the gritty familiarity of Fairbanks, for some fantasy lost valley, Reid begins to flounder.

Developing a fictional landscape should not be an insurmountable task: A great story-teller – John Irving for example – creates a framework, a space that a reader’s imagination can occupy and explore. Reid’s mistake, is to not only create the framework, but put up drywall, hang (really busy) wallpaper, nail a bunch of fru-fru shit to the walls, then stuff any remaining space with packing peanuts – suffocating the reader with unnecessary detail, minutia and clutter.

There are some points of light in the portraits of cult-camp life, particularly Reid’s fascination with smell: lots of sweet, rotting carrion and hippy chicks with foul body odor. But these interesting vignettes are quickly lost in the near constant back-beat of deliberate and clumsy attempts at building tension. My biggest pet peeve with this read are the all too frequent and breathy descriptions of the trails and landmarks in and around the camp. I consider myself to be a quick study, yet by the end of the book I still could not visualize the scale or the layout of the valley – Just give us a dang map Elwood, it’s not cheating – even Gorky Park has a map three pages in!

And so I really had to force myself to turn those last few pages, as the camp self destructs and Jack makes his escape with the girl (spoiler alert – what the hell – I’ll save you the heartache) the climax of the book resembles a cross between Blair Witch and a Benny Hill chase. And not in a good way!

So I’m reading Midnight Sun – all is fine and dandy in my little world of Edward’s thoughts. Then it hits me: New Moon is coming in two weeks and I’ll be damn – I HAVE to re-read it before I see it on the 20th! But, what’s the point of just reading New Moon again? I must start from the begining and do it right!

At first I tried to read Twilight and Midnight Sun at the same time. Midnight Sun while at my work – Twilight when I got home ….but that was messing with my head a little – switching points of views and all. I came to the conclusion that re-reading Twilight was more important at this day and time. It shouldn’t take me more than a few days to breeze through it – then maybe I’ll double team and pick up Midnight Sun again while reading New Moon.

So much Twilight and not enough hours in my days!

Apenas la semana pasada contamos con la visita de Taylor Lautner y Kristen Stewart a nuestro país con la finalidad de promocionar “New moon” segunda parte de la “saga twilight” a estrenarse a nivel mundial el próximo 20 de noviembre; por si fuera poco, la tercera entrega, “Eclipse” recién acaba de terminar su producción y está ya en post-producción para su lanzamiento el verano del próximo año.

Lo que empezó como una producción independiente se convirtió en un suceso a nivel mundial, recabando $383,520,177 millones de dólares en taquilla a nivel mundial.

Los productores no perdieron tiempo y filmaron casi seguidas las dos secuelas dejando en ambigüedad la realización de una cuarta entrega – por lo menos para el público- La autora de la saga, Stephanie Meyer, comentó en su página oficial que a ella le resultaba poco probable de filmar ya que contaba con personajes que serían difícil de llevar a la pantalla como es el caso de Renesmee Cullen.

Tiempo después, durante el rodaje de ECLIPSE, el actor BooBoo Stewart, quien interpreta a Seth Clearwater, el mas joven de la manada de lobos, dijo que AMANECER era todo un hecho y que incluso se dividiría en dos partes por lo extenso del libro. Días después, él mismo se aseguró de desmentir sus propias declaraciones, argumentando que tomaron sus comentarios fuera de contexto. Cosa que pocos creyeron convincente y vieron más bien como presión por parte de la producción. Los fans se abalanzaron creando encuestas en línea y comentado en foros si se debería o no hacerla la 4ta entrega, si era funcional dividirla en 2 películas o en su caso que capítulos poner o quitar para hacer una sola película.

Si bien se dejó al aire, el día de ayer, Robert Pattinson en plena promoción de New Moon, confirmó lo que ya era secreto a voces; El rodaje de Amanecer dará comienzo en otoño de 2010. Y al parecer, podría estrenarse en dos entregas cinematográficas. La primera se estrenaría el 14 de diciembre de 2011 con la segunda parte en el verano de 2012. Tal cual lo hará la última entrega de Harry potter el año entrante y como lo hizo en su momento La trilogía matriz con sus últimas dos entregas.

Así pues, la twilight manía seguirá para rato y quizás más fuerte conforme pase el tiempo, no dudaría tampoco que Stephenie Meyer nos sorprenda finalmente con MIDNIGHT SUN; quinta entrega de la saga que contaría los sucesos de TWILIGHT desde la perspectiva de Edward Cullen que quedó sin terminar cuando el borrador de 12 capítulos se filtró en línea.
