At the height of all the Manny Pacquaio controversery, I can’t help but to take advantage of i

At the height of all the Manny Pacquaio controversery, I can’t help but to take advantage of its popularity to prove a point.

Just like what everyone else said, after Pacquaio stopped Cotto in the 12th round of their historic fight the spotlight in the Philippines wasn’t on our new record-breaking, history-making, seven-title holding champion and his big win. No, it wasn’t. Instead, papers and websites were all filled with pictures and stories of Pacquaio’s recent mischief. Apparently, the boxing icon is rumoured to have an affair with another woman. Something very different from the God-fearing, good-guy image he shows before and after every match.

Career defining. Pacquaio shuts up England.

A sudden change of heart? Maybe. There have been a lot of cases like this that has happened in man’s history. And it always is the same story, a poor humble man rises to fame and suddenly becomes arrogant and spoiled. Usually, this is the point of which their fame starts to decline and they end up as nobodies and completely forgotten in the future. There was George Best who, although may be forever renowned in Manchester United and English football folklore, spent his life after football in pubs. He died following an alcoholism-related illness. Another boxing icon, Mike Tyson, could also be put into example. His usual match purse was at least $30 million, yet after his retirement he filed for bankruptcy, got involved in several crimes and committed adultery. These guys are just two examples of wasted legacies. Clearly, pride fuels the person to act so irresponsibly and so carelessly to a point when he/she forgets their limitations.

Looking back, Pacquaio’s journey started at fifteen when he was playing matches to earn a living at $1 a win. He is an offspring of a poor family, at an early age he experienced what it was like to live without a father. Now, he has risen to superstardom and earns a guaranteed purse of at least $15 million each game and earns even more from PPV rights and other add-ons. And his salaries rocketed at a span of only five years, has all these wealth and fame made Pacquaio, uh, let’s say a little more confident?

With all due respect to our country’s best-known athelete, I am not dismissing him as a straight-out bad person. Of course, who could overlook all the generosity and goodwill he has done to help our countrymen? Just ask anyone from General Santos City, his hometown, about his generosity and they’ll tell you how they simply visit his house and come out Php100-1,000 richer! Not to mention, all of his contributions to various sports program. He manages a local basketball team and has a darts club. But the right things you’ve done can’t cover up for the wrong things that you do. And Pacquaio is learning that nowadays.

Sure, Pacquaio gives back to the people who tirelessly watch his every fight and chant his name all the time. But Manny also messes up at times, and the recent scandals – whether its for real or not – just proves that he does. And even if his own coach, Freddie Roach, is a witness to the mistakes he’s doing. Roach previously spoke of Pacquaio’s generosity, saying that the youngster has too much of it, and fears for his future.

Today, Manny holds an amazing legacy, becoming the first boxer ever to hold seven titles in as many weight divisions. And his future in the sport, although nearing retirement, is bright. Pacquaio just needs to keep both of his feet on the ground and to look back and remember where he started.

Can David Haye Make Boxing Popular Again?

The latest Heavyweight Champion of the World, England’s David Haye, recently defeated the 7ft+ human behemoth Nicolai Valuev in the bout aptly named ‘David Meets Goliath’. The problem is that every weight category in boxing has at least four world champions, so one doesn’t normally find out who is ‘The Man’. This is one of the reasons why people don’t really follow the sport anymore. Let’s hope that the handsome and charismatic Haye can change all of that.

I remember when boxing was big, no, absolutely massive! The likes of ‘Sugar Ray’ Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Mike Tyson and Robert Duran were household names around the world during the 1980s. Since the widespread usage of pay-per-view television casts of big fights, support for boxing started on a slow decline. Whereas before, you could turn on terrestrial TV and watch the greatest pugilists in the world duking it out for free. Things are not so simple nowadays.

David Haye might have come around at the perfect time to put bums back on seats and finally take notice of a Heavyweight division, which since the turn of the Millennium has been languishing in the gutter.

The 27-year-old Londoner is an explosive boxer/puncher with a ripped body, good looks, a big mouth and bucket loads of charisma. This is in stark contrast to the out of shape, slow and pondering heavyweights the world has been forced to watch since the likes of Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson retired or got too old. This is an unfortunate statement really, because the Ukrainian Klitschko brothers are both highly talented, but will not fight each other for obvious reasons. Wladimir and Vitali are solid professionals who make the most of their height and intelligence to win fights, but they lack selling power. Basically, they are not superstar material in a way the Heavyweight Champion of the World should be.

We like our Heavyweight champions to spontaneously bite an opponent’s ear off, knock out bums with one punch, fight with the Paparazzi and spawn several children, all with different mothers. That’s a true character, and we the people crave the madness. The Klitschko brothers are really nice guys, who are very respectful and humble. Haye, on the other hand, talks trash at every opportunity, sets up elaborate fake press conferences to promote his fights, and is generally playing the bad guy card at the moment. Most of all, his fights generate interest and big profits.

If Haye isn’t beaten in his next fight, we should see the Londoner take on a Klitschko brother, making it the biggest heavyweight event since an ageing Mike Tyson was battered by Lennox Lewis in 2002.

Or: “Tiger Woods fucked up – but its ok because we are going to sweep it under the rug for him.”

Ok lets look at the facts:

Tiger Woods was released from the hospital this morning.
Was treated for facial cuts and abrasions.
His wife had to break out the window on his car to remove him (she was in the house and heard the accident).
Officers arrived and found him ‘drifting in and out of consciousness.’
Officers returned to question him at his home but were told Woods was resting and to return SUNDAY (which they complied with).

The accident occurred at 2:25AM.
In his neighbors front yard.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

“Alcohol is not believed to be a factor?!” Are you f*in kidding me? My father says Tiger has become accustomed to getting away with behavior that anyone else on tour would get in serious trouble for. Last week he threw his driver into the gallery in disgust and actually hit someone! No suspension, no huge backlash, no sponsors backing out. (Search “Tiger Woods driver Barclays” for more info on that incident).

Watch out America, you cant coddle these people forever. We already tried that with Mike Tyson and Michael Jackson. I am not going so far as to say he is going to become a TOTAL flake out but we need to remind these people that they arent Gods and their actions have real world consequences.

[Or maybe his face looks like this now and it is all a Nike conspiracy]

Now listening to a great WFMU set from Billy Jam featuring DJ Spooky and MC Paul Barman! Check it.

Oh and whatever you do DONT get this canteen for me for Christmas. DO NOT get it double walled, and DO NOT get it in black

“Laowai cant die in China” and other signs of having no built in sense of self preservation…

O

The Game Puts his Money on Hov in 50 Cent and Jay-Z FeudNew York, NY – West Coast MC, The Game, has had his share of feuds with both Jay-Z and 50 Cent in the past, but according to him, it was all in good fun. Game has taken shots at both artists during some interesting times, where one responded and one didn’t, either way it never really got to a serious level. However, in this recent publicized feud that Beanie Sigel and 50 Cent has sparked up with Jay that has become somewhat of a media frenzy, The Game added his two cents practically putting all bets on Jay-Z.

During an interview with Complex.com, The Game insisted that Hov would come out the victor in this battle if it came down to lyricism. These were his comments:

“Jay-Z will fuck 50 up in a battle! It would be so fast and over with. 50 is funny, but Jay is witty. Jay-Z is not to be toyed with. If he responds, if he feels like you’re really pissing him off and he responds, he’s gonna fuck you up! He would fuck me up, I’m just glad he didn’t respond, so I didn’t have to go dig in my bag and try to fuck him up.

I definitely think that Jay-Z didn’t come at me like he came at any other rappers because I definitely would have been more disrespectful. Once you start a beef with me, you better be ready to go the whole 12 rounds. I will try to chew your fuckin’ ear off, like Mike Tyson. I’ll do it and I think he knew that — I’m disrespectful! So Jay, he did the right thing and just kinda let it die down and I let it die down ’cause it wasn’t anything, really. It was fun and I really admire Jay’s career. I just really don’t care too much for the man himself.”

At one point in time, Game has even apologized to 50 about everything that occurred over the past and admitted that G-Unit was a time in his life that he really enjoyed and would work with 50 again if the time came around, 50 however, will not. With this recent feud, Game states that 50 is just taking a page out of his book when he began taking shots at Hov:

“I already did that Jay-Z thing, 50’s just doing what I’m doing. Nobody went at Jay; I went at Jay. Now everybody wants to get at Jay — not saying anything about Beanie Sigel, that’s personal and I stay out of that. He’s just a man and he’s got all the right in the world, but I feel like I did something that people have been wanting to do, but everybody is scared because Jay-Z is so lyrically inclined to cut your throat and your career in half that nobody wanted to do it. But me? I just don’t give a fuck sometimes.”

At press time, The Game has been recently working in the studio with Dr. Dre in the completion of his forthcoming album ‘The R.E.D. Album.’ That fourth studio album has been set to be released on February 16, 2010 with distribution by Interscope Records.

I agree with The Game 100%, on the real, anyone that would go toe to toe with Jay-Z has a huge competition in front of them. Lyrically, Jay would destroy 50 and no one should disagree. Either way, it is also good to see that Game is back in the studio again with Dre and with Interscope, I’m actually looking forward to the release of his next album.

Eminem to Re-Release ‘Relapse’ as ‘Refill’ Dosage

Los Angeles, CA – Eminem has always been artist who keeps his promises to his fans. News coming of the Shady/Aftermath camp of another Relapse album, not the sequel, but a re-release he has creatively entitled ‘The Refill.’ According to Em, he wants to include new material that wasn’t present or recorded during the release of the first ‘Relapse.’

The Detroit MC recently spoke with RapRadar.com and stated that ‘The Refill’ will include the tracks ‘Forever’ that he did with Wayne, Drake, and ’ Kanye, ‘Taking My Ball, which was recorded for the ‘DJ Hero: Renegade Edition’ game that he did it Jay-Z, and three newer tracks.

These were his comments:

“I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned. Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year.”

Even though the sequel to his ‘Relapse’ series won’t be out until next year, he did share some information into the album with DJ Tony Touch during an interview on Shade 45. He stated that the second will be very different from the original:

“[The album] is gonna be a lot different than people expect. As far as the contrast from the last album to this one, I got a couple of tracks with [D12's] Mr. Porter, two tracks with him so far. Four, possibly five with Just Blaze. The overall basis of this record, I went back to songs that are more emotionally driven. The last record I made, I think I was concentrating more on spitting. On this album, I feel like there’s some of that, but I went back to songs with [feelings] to them as opposed to just rap records.”

At press time, ‘Relapse: The Refill’ has been set to be released on December 21, all according to Interscope.

Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com for more updated news on Eminem and ‘Refill.’

I was looking forward for this year for him to release the sequel, but I guess him being Em, he must have something up his sleeves. With production from Just Blaze, I can imagine how he will sound on a Blaze beat, it would be quite original.

Jay-Z Scores Number One Hit with ‘Empire State of Mind’ with Video

New York, NY – Even with all the negative news surrounding Jay-Z of late concerning 50 and former Roc member Beanie Sigel, it seems as though none of that is actually affecting him as he’s not even entertaining it. But honestly, why should he? His New York anthem, ‘Empire State of Mind’ has been receiving rave reviews from critics and all his fans. As of this past Thursday (November 19), the record hit number 1 on the Billboard hot 100 charts. Jay-Z has been on the charts before on features, but this marks the first time his album track has hit number one on the Billboards.

The newest NYC anthem has been circulating all over the place as both Jay and Alicia Keys have been requested to perform the hit record literally everywhere. They first performed it together at the MTV Video Awards of this year, then at the Yankee/Phillies World Series game, and again after the Yankees won at the Bronx parade, to recently performing it at the American Music Awards, where it was a huge hit. The record is literally been performed at almost every major location, putting Hov at an all time high. Guaranteed the list will continue to grow.

Jay-Z recently stated the message that the song was expressing:

“Really, ‘Empire State of Mind’ is about inspiration, it’s about hope. I think that’s what connects with people.”

And honestly, Alicia said it best NYC is the” Concrete Jungle where dreams are made of, there is nothing you can’t do.”

Checkout the video of their recent performance at the American Music Awards: *[HERE]*

A slightly older version, but they sort of prove the fine wine theory. That’s right in my vague, way off the beaten path way I’m saying that Friday the missus and I went to the Dinosaur Jr. show. It had been a long time coming—In more ways than one. Dinosaur Jr. was one of my fav bands as a ute (OH snap a My Cousin Vinny reference!), and a clear inspiration to Kurt and Nirvana. I of course like too many bands never got to see them. Then they disbanded in 97. What is this a history lesson in Dinosaur Jr.? Screw that go do your own leg work! It’s called Google people! We bought the tickets for the show like 6 years ago (more like June or so) but it seemed to take forever to arrive. So the big night approaches and how do we prepare for it? Well none other than the Rock mantra of sex and drugs! Yeah that’s right the wife and I got home from work and took a nap! Now that’s a swerve! Could I use anymore exclamation points? We slept for about two hours and then headed over to the show. The place was packed with a unique mixture of cool 40 year olds, teens and the douche kind of 30-40 year olds (The “I was at their first show man” types.) We survived the wannabe Dresden Dolls band that opened for them—who were a lot better (read as not as sucky) than their MySpace page led us to believe. As the band took the stage what happened? A herd of mutant giraffes swooped in front of us. Fuckers. I mean we are smurfs here and from where they were there was no real difference of sliding in front of us on the d-low. I’m pretty sure they were just 12 year olds on steroids! Here are the results of part of the show being behind these urban Giraffes. You know the hold the camera high over ya head </s>and wave it like you just don’t care</s> and snap away?

Then we were invited in front of some cool people (and fellow smurf people) Side note: God damn you Microsoft Word acknowledge Smurf is a fucking word!

Anydiddle. This is when the shit hit the fan and got fun. Nearing the end of the 2 hour show the moshing began. Nothing is lamer than old farts and young idiots slamming into each other. So as this got out of control (when is it in control) my wife decided to police it. You know my tiny barely 5’2 wife? Then the smurfettes that were alongside of us were inspired by her spunk and decided to chip in. First they just pushed the idiots away but this of course made the idiots think they were playing along. Enter the kidney punching. There really is nothing as hilarious as three short girls punching giants in the kidneys, backs, and necks. It was sort of hot too.

A crude recreation of the event:

Movie Review
The Hangover
2009
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha
Directed by: Todd Phillips
Runtime: 100 minutes

The Hangover could have been a problem for Warner Bros. The studio gave the film a full cinema release despite it having many of the hallmarks of a straight-to-video release: too many C-list actors with several D-list celebrity cameos. The comedy is off the wall and the general plot is kind of the stupid. Todd Phillips pulls a rabbit out of his hat because despite all these telltale signs, The Hangover is a very good movie. It’s funny and witty. It can be a bit stale at times and there may be a couple of scenes that pretty much force you to roll your eyes but the film is quite enjoyable nonetheless.

This is the story of a Las Vegas bachelor party gone horribly wrong. Doug (Justin Bartha) is taken to Vegas by a couple of friends on the eve of his wedding. They’re having a great time living it up in Sin City. The boys decide to have a drink on the roof of the hotel and then the next thing we see is Stu (Ed Helms) passed out on the floor of their destroyed hotel room. Neither Stu, Phil (Bradley Cooper), or Alan (Zach Galifianakis) have any idea what had happened the previous night nor can they find Doug who is supposed to get married the same day. They try to desperately retrace their steps as they keep finding out how more and more bizarre their evening was. Escapades such as Stu getting married at a drive-in chapel to a stripper and the boys breaking into Mike Tyson’s house are only the tip of the iceberg. As the clock gets closer to the wedding, the guys become more frantic in their search for Doug and their way out of Vegas.

One of the film’s weaknesses is the character development. While it shouldn’t be a major issue in a zany comedy, it does hamper the experience a bit since this one deals with the maturing of the central characters. One problem is the script, which lets the actors improvise a little more than they should be allowed. The other problem is the limited range that the actors have. The whole romance angle with Helms’s and Graham’s characters is bad both because it’s written horribly and they are just poor actors. Meanwhile, despite Cooper’s character being poorly written, he shows much more depth in this movie than he has previously and actually does a remarkable job with what he’s given. Any revelations that are supposed to come as a shock concerning a character’s motive or profile are not all that surprising and telegraphed from miles away. The writers and filmmaker did not do a good job at creating a piece where the characters can naturally evolve.

Luckily for The Hangover, the film is not about character development and delivering an epic story. It is about having lots of laughs and a good time. The comedy in the movie can be quite sharp which is a testament both the writing team as well as the talents of Galifianakis and Helms. Both actors gave it all to deliver the most from the material they were given as well as adding to it wherever they could. Cooper helps too by playing everything cool rather than try and stand toe-to-toe with the other two and try to be a comedian. Even Mike Tyson shows more effort in this movie than he has shown in the ring since he was world champion. The cast really wanted to give a good performance and nobody underdelievered.

The film also does a good job at delivering joke after joke without all that many feeling lame or tired. Each character has their own unique style and they mesh together very well. There are times that some of the antics and scenes walk the fine line of being very funny and something even Comedy Central would reject (which is saying something). However, overall very few jokes cross into the latter territory. There are even times where you may feel like you know the punchline to the joke as it is being set up but you’re still laughing anyways. The whole scene with the tiger in the hotel room after the wild night is hilarious even though half the time you know what is going to happen next. The film is clever like that in the sense that it plays out like a friend telling an out-of-this-world story rather than a fictional piece of storywriting.

Todd Phillips’s The Hangover is a lot of fun but it’s far from perfect. It can be lame at times and Graham probably was a bad choice, and there were some annoying camera techniques but otherwise the movie is quite hilarious. It’s an easy film to recommend as long as you don’t get offended easily. Even if you don’t offend easily, it probably would be a wise idea to avoid the final credits.

Frequently in the world of sports, we see a certain player tagged as a hero. Sometimes, the said pl

Frequently in the world of sports, we see a certain player tagged as a hero. Sometimes, the said player may even be tagged as an American Hero. Take this article by Holly Cain, which places Jimmie Johnson as an American Hero, for an example. For whatever reasons, some can claim Johnson to be a hero, but does that actually make him a national hero, if most others don’t see him in that light?

A national hero has to be somebody who can make almost everybody in the nation treat him or her as a hero. The hero must be able to unite the nation in a cheer, and also vindicate and uplift the nation in times of hardship. Make the 1980 U.S. Men’s Hockey Team that provided the nation with so much pride and hope in the “Miracle on Ice” into one being, and there you would have a national hero.

With that sentiment, there’s not one American Hero in sports, but there is one national hero who has been doing most of his best work in the United States. Ask almost any Filipino, Filipino-American or person of Filipino decent about boxer Manny Pacquiao. You’ll see that person’s eyes light up, brimming with pride. That person will then tell you what the Pacman means to a strong, proud country and its culture abroad.

Rights to Jace McTier (McTier Art)

Pacquiao has blazed new paths in boxing. He’s the first boxer to win world titles in seven different weight classes, as well as the first to win a lineal championship in four different weight classes. Never before has a boxer truly held the notion of conquering, then moving on to bigger challenges (literally). Pacquiao’s most recent triumph, that at the hands of then-WBO Welterweight Title holder Miguel Cotto last Saturday in Las Vegas, showcased the near-perfect package of power, quickness and toughness that has turned the Pacman into a near mythic figure. In the ring, Pacquiao’s next target is the undefeated Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. The boisterous Mayweather could be the final foe the Pacman needs to vanquish. In some senses, if Mayweather accepted the challenge to fight, the battle could determine who is the greatest boxer since Mike Tyson.

Pacquiao (right) in his defeat of Miguel Cotto (rights to David Becker/Icon SMI)

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has also blazed new grounds in The Philippines. A film based on his life has already been made, and that before he won lightweight or welterwight titles, before he handed beatdowns to Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto. He was the first athlete to appear on Filipino postage stamp. Pacquiao even made the 2009 TIME 100. Then, of course, there’s the political influence Pacquiao has had on his country.

Perhaps Pacquiao’s appearance in the TIME 100 doesn’t do enough justice to illustrate what he does to unify the Republic of the Philippines. As Gary Andrew Poole wrote in a November 15 article on The Atlantic’s Website:

Many Filipinos, including the vice president, had made the trip to Vegas because Pacquiao represents so much them. He was abandoned by his father (a man who ate the family dog) and then he left home at 14 to help support his family. He sold snacks and trinkets on the streets. He once lived in a cardboard box. He boxed his way to fame and fortune with fights in his homeland and abroad. (His father was somewhere in the arena tonight, watching his son for the first time.) Said a Filipino sportswriter, “We are having hard times in our country. There is terrorism. There is poverty. There are kidnappings every day. We find solace in Manny Pacquiao.” There is even talk of him running for congress. In a country with thousands of different dialects and ethnic groups, Filipinos see him as a unifier.

Rights to wikipedia

The best way for Pacquiao to end his career is to somehow convince Mayweather to fight him, and beat him. I don’t want to compare a boxing match to the country’s official liberation and granted independence from colonial rule, but there would seem to be some parallels if the nicknamed “Fighting Pride of the Philippines” was to knockout the baddest and loudest (and best) American boxer. With a victory, Pacquiao can realize he has beaten everybody he needs to beat. He will go down as one of the greatest boxers of all time, and arguably the most accomplished boxer in the sport’s history. With a victory, Pacquiao will have conquered it all before he retires and entrenches himself into the world of politics. More importantly, with a victory, the Republic of the Philippines will officially be on top of the boxing world, thanks to power within the fists of the Filipino national hero.

From the week of Nov. 8-14

Sports: In professional boxing, Manny Pacquiao stopped Miguel Cotto in 12 rounds on Saturday to claim his seventh world title in a seventh weight class. Pacquiao’s speed and power dominated the less-formidable Cotto. The 145-pound Filipino knocked Cotto down twice in the bout. Pacquiao earned a minimum $13 for the fight.

Our Take: This fight could set the stage for a Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. match. Such a match up would draw significantly more fans to the ring, than have shown interest in the sport over the past several years. A battle between the top two names in boxing could start a turnaround in the popularity that hasn’t existed since the ‘70’s, ‘80’s, and early 90’s. Mayweather will run into trouble with the fans if he doesn’t give them what they want to see—a fight against Pacquiao.

Entertainment: “The Blind Side” opened in theaters on Friday and looks to become a box office hit. The story of the Tuohys family, who took in a 6-foot-4, 300-plus pound homeless boy in high school and watched him grow into a first-round NFL draft pick, will inspire many people. Michael Oher, the movie’s main character, now plays for the Baltimore Ravens.

Our Take: In addition to some great sports footage, this movie looks to be an emotional and uplifting story of how one family’s decision to give a boy a new chance can really make a difference. The originality of the story should draw people to the theaters.

Quote: “I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon.” –LeBron James

Our Take: LeBron James’ declaration that he wants everyone in the league to stop wearing number 23 jerseys raises a red flag. James included himself in the statement, saying that he will switch to number six. Making a remark during this part of the season is slightly alerting that James may be preparing for future plans. What caused this change of heart from wearing the 23 to commemorate Jordan to now wanting everyone to cease donning the iconic number? It could be that James is setting himself up for a change of teams. The free-agent-to-be could be preparing to jump ship in Cleveland and head to Chicago, which will have the ability to bring James on board in the summer.

Oddity: Mike Tyson was arrested for allegedly beating up a photographer at the Los Angeles International Airport. Arizona officials are checking to see if Tyson violated probation that stemmed from a 2007 drug charge for cocaine possession and a DUI that sent the former boxer to jail for 24 hours. Both Tyson and the paparazzo were booked and released on suspicion of misdemeanor battery.

Our Take: It appeared Tyson was turning the page in a life that was filled with mistakes and missed opportunities. If the re-enactment of his cameo in The Hangover that is alleged to have occurred at LAX is true and Tyson is found to have violated his probation, the marketability of the former heavy-weight champ will take yet another hit. Tyson is a risky personality to work with, but the public seems to continue to have some form of fascination for him. As long as that exists, he will be insulated from the worst consequences of his behavior.

Number: 55

Our Take: Milwaukee Bucks rookie guard Brandon Jennings has been lighting up the league since he stepped onto the court. Jennings is becoming a successful case study for players skipping the first year of college and heading to Europe to make a buck. Many were skeptical of Jennings decision, but his recent scoring of 55 points against the Warriors on Saturday broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s franchise record for points scored in a game as a rookie. Jennings fell three points short of Wilt Chamberlain’s all-time rookie record. It appears Italy worked out for the kid from Compton. He has a multi-million dollar deal with Under Armour as the company’s first basketball endorser and he is the early season favorite for ROY honors.

A blow for Michael Moore. His documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” has been cut from Oscar competition.

It’s not one of the 15 on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ list of docs worthy of a nomination. “Capitalism: A Love Story” was one of 89 documentary features submitted for Oscar nominations.

Another high-profile film, the well-reviewed rock-documentary, “It Might Get Loud,” didn’t make the cut, either. Neither did the Mike Tyson documentary “Tyson,” or “The September Issue,” about Vogue magazine and its editor-in-chief.

Some of the 15 documentaries that made the list are: “The Cove,” “Food, Inc.” “The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers” and “Valentino The Last Emperor.”

This list of 15 will be narrowed again and 5 will be nominated for Oscars. Moore previously won an Oscar for “Bowling for Columbine.”

And a large orange drink!

It seemed simple enough.

I pulled into the drive thru of a local establishment for a breakfast sandwich and a caffeinated beverage this morning. No big deal, right?

Wrong.

What happened next isn’t necessarily atypical, but it was a glaring example of how customer service is dying.

The woman in the drive thru repeated the beverage portion of my order and then began to do the same with my sandwich. Then, she abruptly stopped and told me to drive around.

Odd.

I pulled to the window and paid. I got my order and drove around the building toward the exit. Some little voice in the back of my head told me to check the order. I did.

It wasn’t even close.

What I ordered was a bisquit.

What I got was a taquito. Or more appropriately, a breakfast taco.

How did she get “taquito” from “biscuit?” I don’t care how bad the language barrier is, that’s not even close.

Which I guess brings me to the crux of my rant.

I’ve worked in a drive thru. Its a pretty thankless job so I tend to give those folks a break most of the time. However, this isn’t the first time this same woman has done this to me. The only difference was that this time I checked the bag before I was too far gone.

The fault lies with the manager. The audio capacity of the basic drive thru is akin to that of a tin can phone and a piece of string. The person you put in the hole is at a disadvantage to begin with. Why would you make it worse by putting someone who doesn’t have a secure grasp of the language in the drive thru.

Of course, the fact that the manager had the same issues, only from a different continent, when I went in to get the problem corrected told me all I needed to know.

Yes, I asked for my order to be fixed and the manager got it wrong too.

It took me three fucking tries to get a “sausage biscuit with cheese.”

Customer service people, you have GOT to do better. If you don’t understand me, ask me to repeat myself. I don’t mind. It’ll be better for both of us. Trust me.

Don’t make me shout “no huevos cabron” into the tin speaker as my co-workers suggested. That’s only going to piss me off.

Do your job and I’ll be very pleasant.

Mess up my breakfast order again and I’m gonna go Mike Tyson on someone. I’ll already be hungry.

Thank you and please come again.

Okay, I watched this video and I got mad as hell. I said I wasn’t gonna blog about it but everytime I saw it, it made my blood boil. For the record, I wanna say that I dont condone violence against anyone, domestic or otherwise. With that being said, Robin, I’mma have to give you a “Sitcho’ ass down”.

The reason why is because we know Mike Tyson beat you. We saw the interview. We saw you smiling and telling the story about how he abused you and we looked at his dumbfounded-ass face while you told the world this man was beating you. This was years ago, mind you, not circa Rihanna and Chris Brown. Okay, why after ALL this man has went through… accused of beating his wife, accused and convicted of rape, gone to jail, stripped of his dignity, lost all his money, can’t fight anymore, people calling him crazy, and finally a blow so anquishing…losing his baby, Exodus. My point is, no matter how bad this man treated you IN THE PAST, hasn’t he suffered enough for you to say, “Okay, he had his comin’… he got what he deserves”?

Then, on top of that she had nerve enough to try to check Oprah about what she should have said during the interview. Excuse me? Who’s name is on the front door of this studio? That shit dont say Robin, it says Oprah! The point I’m trying to make his stop harping on old shit so you can get some shine. You’re mad because of one comment this man said…if you that damn pissed off with it, call HIS ass up and tell him to say he’s sorry. That’s who you need to be getting a “I apologize” from. We know what he did and no one makes light of that but damn I think that appology from Oprah was a bit much. And if this man has went through all this…his life is a shitty shambles right now and he can’t crack one joke? WTF. Robin, if you listened to that joke and paused to see how you felt about it… what you should have done was let it go and realized karma, or whatever you want to call it, for what it is. Look at his life. If I was Oprah, I would have told her: You dont like what I said then git’cho ass of the stage…with them crocodile tears. I wouldn’t have bit mo’ apologized….Girl, bye.
