During the real estate boom of the last twenty years many manufacturers of hardboard siding, Masonit

During the real estate boom of the last twenty years many manufacturers of hardboard siding, Masonite siding, OSB siding, OSB plywood sheathing, synthetic stucco (EIFS), windows, and roofing materials experimented with new and synthetic materials, most notably composite or fake wood exterior siding. These composite wood products, made of wood fibers (waste) and glue, tend to rot prematurely, swell, grow mildew and fungus, and buckle or warp. Many of these products had warranties of 20 years or more, but signs of deterioration often appeared within a few years after installation.

There are over 100 different shapes, styles and textures of hardboard and OSB siding, manufactured by 11 different companies. Many of these manufacturers have settled house siding lawsuits since 1995. Most homeowners don’t think they have a problem, because they haven’t taken the time – or don’t know how – to properly examine their hardboard siding.

Take the time to review this checklist. If you answer “yes” to one or more of these questions – or are unsure about any of them, leave a comment, call or email us and let one of our trained inspectors evaluate your property.

Note: Some of these photos are shown in very advanced stages of deterioration. Your hardboard siding does not have to look as bad as the photo examples in order to qualify for compensation.

George wipes his glasses, pulls out his handkerchief and slides it across his sweaty brow. From 100 feet above, he sees something down at the base of the shaft, luminous and ashen, ghastly and waxen. It moves from left to right in a frenzied pace, seems to bounce off of the dusty, cob-webbed walls. George pauses. In the ten years that he had worked this elevator shaft, nothing had happened, no sudden plummets of the elevator cars, no snapped ropes, tangled wires around his legs. Others had warned him that many had died in the exact spot that he so often found himself but after the first few years, he brushed it off as a bunch of gossip from some jealous, out-of-work do-nothin’s. But this was strange and George gets the eerie feeling that he is about to understand what all of them were talking about.

When George thinks about it, this town was riddled with the happenings of the paranormal. The church, still the center of that town, had been built on the remains of Iroquois indians. Upstate New York towns had burgeoned with new populations moving in from across the country and across the seas and with that new movement came a number of strange accidents. The most common story that George had been told, growing up on the outskirts of town reserved for the poverty-stricken, was one of a white woman named Lucy that had just rode in to town from lower Maryland in 1845. She was well-to-do and at that time had a number of servants to aid her in her lifting her ridiculous number of suitcases from the cart. Stopping at the church to pay her respects, Lucy had met with the deacon who had warmly welcomed her to their new town. As the story goes, it had been stormy that afternoon and as they were jovially speaking, a bolt of lighting had shot down from the sky above and slammed into the church spire, ripping it off of the roof. In split seconds, it had plummeted to the ground below and lodged itself firmly in Lucy’s breast. Needless to say, she had died on the spot. The church had planted an oak tree to commemorate her life, a tree which recently had begun rotting from the inside in what arborologists called “odd”. There were many other such stories: candles exploding, shower water suddenly turning boiling hot, collapsing homes, and unexplained screaming coming from inside people’s walls.

George stops thinking about it, focuses back on his task at hand. He is turning the wrench, tightening the bolts, when he feels a tug at his rope. George tilts his head up, sees that the ball of light has moved to the top of the shaft where his rope loops through the belay device. It hovers ominously, hushed. Sluggishly, it wraps its incandescent body around his rope. George feels himself being lifted as if ten men were simultaneously pulling him upwards. He is being pulled closer and closer towards the phantasm, begins to smell mildew and rotten eggs, and opens his mouth to scream but begins choking. One by one, rose petals begin to pour from his mouth, floating dreamily down the sordid elevator shaft. George feels them coming up from nowhere, everything in his being wants to scream. The phantasm is near now, stops pulling, and they sit not four feet from one another. The spirit has unleashed the rope from the belay device and holds George 200 feet above the steel elevator base. The rose petals have stopped their surreal flow, George takes a deep breath and begins to scream at the top of his lungs. He screams until his temples feel like they are about to explode, the phantasm begins to shake forcibly and pounds itself against the shaft walls. George stops. Something is crawling up his throat.

The ghost pulls him closer, expands to cover George’s head. He is immersed in a nightmare of darkened imagery, a bouquet of rotting food, and one by one and then by the dozens, the bees start to fly out of his mouth, angrily battering against his esophagus.

The phantasm explodes, its light covering the entirety of the shaft, rippling along its dusty sides, riding George’s nerves to the brink of insanity. The bees swarm now, clambering over one another to escape his mouth, stinging his tongue, the roof of his mouth. George feels the release, the air moving quickly past his ears, the flapping of the bee wings against his lips.

The light has all but gone.

You look outside one day and it’s bright and sunny and the next day snow begins to cover the leaves you forgot to rake. That’s right, winter is just around the corner and you need to get your home ready. So here’s your checklist!

Also check wood floors just inside patio and exit doors for signs of water entry. Probe through the carpet or check under the doors from the basement or crawl space area for signs of dampness. Look for rotting sub-flooring, floor joists and sill plates (the wood that rests on the foundation wall). If possible, check behind the insulation for signs of rotting or infestation. Vinyl floor covering can be discolored from mildew trapped between the vinyl and wet sub-flooring.

Caulk and seal around window and door openings. Fill cracks and openings in concrete drives, walks and patios.

Have the heating system and flue inspected by a qualified heating technician. It is very important to change or clean the furnace filter on a regular basis. If the furnace has a built-in humidifier, have the humidifier cleaned. Treat the humidifier each month during the heating season to resist mold growth inside the air system.

Have the chimney cleaned and inspected by a certified chimney sweep. Store fire wood two to three feet off the ground and away from the home’s foundation. Wood piles invite unwanted guests all year long.

Garden hoses should be drained and stored inside. If you have shut-offs for the outside hose faucets, they need to be closed for winter. Do not leave a garden hose connected to an outside faucet. Even an anti-freeze faucet will freeze and eventually leak if a hose is left connected all winter.

Drain the gasoline from lawn mowers, weed eaters, etc. Remove grass, dirt and all debris and store for winter. Stuff a paper towel in the gas tank, leaving enough of the towel exposed so the towel can later be removed. Store the equipment with the gas lid off. The tank has to be drained with no gasoline or gasoline fumes present before the paper towel is stuffed inside. The towel keeps the inside of the tank dry and ready for next spring. Never store gasoline or equipment containing gasoline inside the home, garage or basement.

Chilly last night, huh?

So far the combination I’m using is working well: 3-4 wool blankets, flannel sheets, a toque, one candle, and last night I even had a sheep skin over the bottom part of the bed. I woke up warm and toasty, except for my nose. I don’t like having my face covered, so I had to use the blankets and my arms to build a little warm cave for my nose that still got enough fresh air. I was able to fall asleep again, but eventually I moved around and my cold nose woke me up again.

There’s a more serious problem from the cold though, which is condensation. The air I exhale all night is full of water that condenses on the cold surfaces: glass and metal. I was mainly worried about the window panels getting musty and mildewy, but I’ve learned that there’s a bigger problem that I can’t even see. My van wasn’t intended for camping, so it isn’t insulated, which means behind the plastic wall paneling is bare metal, which will quickly start to rust from all this moisture. Moisture is the enemy!

So the idea of getting a heater felt like cheating at first, but I accept it now

Disaster has struck in the Usual Shop’s house… well, I am rather dramatising this, but as is inevitably the case when one lives in a Victorian house in Brighton, we’ve had an attack of damp, mildew and mould. We’ve spent much of the weekend trying to kill off the mould spores, misting all our clothes with anti-bacterial spray and brushing fabrics frantically. The mould’s got into D’s best suits, my oldest and most precious vintage dresses, our leather shoes and belts: pretty much everything that’s not been worn or exposed to fresh air lately. Serves us right for being too tight to turn on the central heating. Any tips for salvaging these clothes and getting rid of the smell, anyone?

The upshot of this is – as was the case last winter when this happened – that we have been forced to have a serious edit and cull of our wardrobes. The mould’s less likely to take hold if the clothes actually have a chance to air and aren’t packed solidly together, and we have turned out items we haven’t worn in years. So I’ve been exceedingly restrained this week on the accumulation front, going only to one jumble sale in Plumpton and being very selective.

The week’s finds are: a pale brown two-button man’s suit; a black cardigan with beaded detail on one shoulder; a super-80s yellow satin shirt with tie-bow detail on the sleeves; a pale grey earthenware pot; and, most randomly of all, a 1976 book called The Evolution of Electronic Music (from oscillators and theremins to synthesizers and computer-generated sounds via Stockhausen and Cage), by a David Ernst. It’ll make a good Christmas present for someone…

I was depressed all last week. Something else bad happened on Saturday. I somehow got out of bed & to work this morning. How? By not acknowledging or dealing with any of the effects of the bad stuff. Since my water tank burst, I pretty sure I have mold growing in my house. What am I doing about it:

NOTHING.

I don’t even want to mention what happened on Saturday. Let’s just say it is car related and it cost me money. My plan was to hire someone to deal with this avalanche. But everyday something costly happens so guess what?

I GIVE UP. YOU WIN.

lol. mold. I don’t care. Whateves. What’s next? Whatever it is I’m not dealing with it.

—————-
I’ve never been a Vince Young fan. It has nothing to do with him playing for the Titans. I’ve followed him since college. No, I don’t know him but I did see a short documentary on him…It didn’t change my indifference.

However, now I find myself rooting for him. I would root for the Titans to go to the Superbowl but I’m a Baltimore Ravens fan and they are fighting for a playoff spot. If the Ravens don’t make it, I’m rooting for Tennessee all the way. Why?

Because people wrote him off and called him crazy. Maybe he had a breakdown for ONE day. Have all these naysayers never had a bad day when then just wanted to escape? I envy those people.

I’m so happy for him. He heard what everyone was saying about his mental state and his playing ability. Yet he did not cave under pressure (I think a lot of people would). He is playing better. He didn’t give up. Viva, Vince Young. Thanks for proving them wrong.

And kudos to the Tennessee Titans owner (Bud Adams) who flipped everyone off, I would have done the same thing.
You wouldn’t believe how many websites and blogs address the problem of mildew and soap scum!

You wouldn’t believe how many websites and blogs address the problem of mildew and soap scum! We’ve culled the best and most frequently suggested solutions for you. Use one or more of the following methods to get your tub and shower sparkling clean again. All of these solutions will work best if you let the water run on the hottest setting for several minutes before you begin.

Getting Rid of Soap Scum

Of all the spray products on the market, Scrubbing Bubbles Aerosol is probably the best product for removing soap scum buildup on tile and tub. (It was actually found most effective in a college chemistry class experiment). Spray the surfaces, let the cleanser work for 15 minutes or so, use a white scrubber pad to remove mildew and soap scum.

Scrub Free Soap Scum Remover also got very good reviews. As well as Tilex Soap Scum Remover.

If you want a more eco-friendly approach, close the drain, turn shower on the hottest setting and let it run for 5 minutes or so. Empty the tub. Spray tub and tile with white vinegar, or use a vinegar and baking soda paste. Let the paste or vinegar set up for 20-30 minutes, scrub with a white scrubber pad and rinse.

Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser a little some Dawn dishwashing detergetent or cheap shampoo to scrub all the surfaces.

If hard water is a problem, apply CLR or Limeaway (available in most any hardware or home store) and scrub with a white scrubber pad or a stiff brush. Be careful and read directions before you begin! Wear rubber gloves and protective goggles.

For a “greener” solution, try plain undiluted white vinegar.

A teaspoon of Calgon water softener to a gallon of hot water is also effective against hard water and soap scum.

Numerous people attest to the effectiveness of used Bounce or other fabric softener sheets to remove soap scum. Seems like you should scrunch up at least 3-4 of them or it would take you forever, but no one mentioned that.

Getting Rid of Mildew

Mildew is that black (or pink!) stuff that gets in the corners and along the bottom edges of your tile as well as the bottom of your shower curtain.

You can buy a special product such a Tilex or X-14, or you can use a bleach and water solution. Clorox recommends 3/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water. Spray in on and let it set up 5-10 minutes, rinse thoroughly. Repeat for any mildew that remains. Be sure you have adequate ventilation.

If you have mildew on the bottom of your shower curtain, you can wash it or just buy a new liner for a few dollars. (They even have mildew resistent ones). If you choose to wash your shower curtain, put it through the wash cycle with detergent, but pull it out before the spin cycle. Repeat for the rinse cycle. Hang to dry.

Get Help!

If you are feeling overwhelmed by this project, consider getting a professional maid service to come in for a one-time cleaning. Most companies have a four hour minimum, and it’s amazing how much can be accomplished in that length of time. Once your house is all clean it’s so much easier to maintain!
Think about it….

We got to the point of only being able to use them only a couple of times before they would smell really mildewy. It bugged the heck out of me and I would wash them in hot water and dry them at the hottest settings. It didn’t help. I looked up ‘getting mildew out of towels’ and I found this and it works!

Another neat thing that I found was dry cleaning sheet. I was skeptical about them but they work in a pinch. I wouldn’t use them on big stains but they’re very useful for freshening up clothes.

Many fungi in the woods, including one which at a certain stage gets a sort of white fluffy mildew on it & smells rather like bad meat. Immense quantities of wood pigeons & large flights of starlings. Came on a field of what appeared to be weeds but think it may possibly be buckwheat, which is sometimes grown about here for the sake of the partridges. Small black three-cornered seed like a miniature beech nut. Brought home a patch of a kind of rough moss & stuck it on the rockery, hoping it will grow. Today at 3pm. Hung out a lump of fat for the tits. They had found it before 5pm.

Mold will grow where conditions allow. The process of finding and repairing mold damage can cause stress and inconvenience, from financial burden to emotional hardship. The cause of the mold whether or not your home insurance covers mold remediation will of course affect the financial cost of repairing mold damage. Even though molds need water or moisture to grow, not all water damage repairs are covered by homeowners’ insurance policies.

Here are 10 things that you should know about mold & its insurance coverage:

• Homeowner’s insurance will likely not cover mold restoration that is cause by water damage which resulted from “maintenance problems” or floods.

• Some insurance policies will cover property loss caused by mold in certain situations.

• Some mold restoration companies will work directly with your insurance company so that you do not have to.

• Even if your policy covers sudden and accidental water losses, including burst pipes, and some sewer back up or sump pump failure, some insurance companies have begun to specifically exclude or limit coverage for mold that may result.

• With full mold coverage, insurance buyers are able to claim bodily injury, property damage, remediation expenses, business interruption, and defense costs due to mold.

• When you buy an insurance policy, be sure to note the mold exclusions in your policy.

• In the case of mold contamination be sure to maintain your own documentation of the incident; take pictures of everything and call in your own mold professionals for mold testing and estimates. If you’re going to claim health damages too, get blood testing.

• The adapted environmental policies fill the coverage gap in commercial insurance programs created by the new mold exclusions in the same way traditional environmental insurance fills the coverage gaps created by pollution exclusions.

• With mold exclusions being added to virtually all property and general liability insurance policies, buyers have significant uninsured loss exposures.

• A property owner should be aware that repairing water damage, cleaning up mold and identifying the coverage aspects of your insurance policy should be done immediately in order to safe guard the property.

All claims insurance repairs can easily be solved by contacting 911 Restoration. We will take care at your situation from the initial estimate and insurance claim, to repairs, clean up and billing. Our no-hassle service policy is designed to get both you and your property back on track as quickly as possible.

The Envirionmental Protection Agency estimates 30 percent of buildings in the United States are contaminated with mold neurotoxins. Aspergillus, Fusarium and Stachybotrus molds can all produce fatal neurotoxins. Deadly peanut allergies are caused by fungal Aflatoxins.

Florida Detox and Wellness Institute offers testing and treatment for mold neurotoxicity, which can cause disability and hundreds of symptoms, including addiction, anxiety, depression, fatigue, irritibility, fibromyalgia, attention deficit disorders, immune suppression, headaches, including migraines, cancer and many other disorders.

We are excited to be able to offer testing for Ochratoxin, Tricothecene and Aflatoxin mold neurotoxins, in addition to genetic testing for increased sensitivity to Lymes Disease and mold neurotoxins. Twenty four percent of the population possesses specific HLA DR DQ genetic patterns, which reduce their ability to clear mold neurotoxins over 400 percent, compared to the other seventy six percent of the population, which does not genetically clear mold neurotoxins more slowly. This explains why only a minority of us are affected by sick building syndromes, caused by mold contamination.

47 “If any clothing is contaminated with mildew—any woolen or linen clothing, 48 any woven or knitted material of linen or wool, any leather or anything made of leather- 49 and if the contamination in the clothing, or leather, or woven or knitted material, or any leather article, is greenish or reddish, it is a spreading mildew and must be shown to the priest. 50 The priest is to examine the mildew and isolate the affected article for seven days. 51 On the seventh day he is to examine it, and if the mildew has spread in the clothing, or the woven or knitted material, or the leather, whatever its use, it is a destructive mildew; the article is unclean. 52 He must burn up the clothing, or the woven or knitted material of wool or linen, or any leather article that has the contamination in it, because the mildew is destructive; the article must be burned up.

Then he is to isolate it for another seven days. 55 After the affected article has been washed, the priest is to examine it, and if the mildew has not changed its appearance, even though it has not spread, it is unclean. Burn it with fire, whether the mildew has affected one side or the other. 56 If, when the priest examines it, the mildew has faded after the article has been washed, he is to tear the contaminated part out of the clothing, or the leather, or the woven or knitted material. 57 But if it reappears in the clothing, or in the woven or knitted material, or in the leather article, it is spreading, and whatever has the mildew must be burned with fire. 58 The clothing, or the woven or knitted material, or any leather article that has been washed and is rid of the mildew, must be washed again, and it will be clean.”

59 These are the regulations concerning contamination by mildew in woolen or linen clothing, woven or knitted material, or any leather article, for pronouncing them clean or unclean.

So now I’ve felt the effects of the H1N1 virus for about two weeks. I was able to get out of bed for the first time a few days ago, but I still feel fatigued and extremely sore. Supposedly it hits teenagers harder than little kids, because I have toddler brothers who got over it in a snap.

However, my sinuses keep getting worse. This is probably due to the virus as well as the numerous allergens at this time of year, and my school is in a mansion and gets VERY dusty and moldy. So I decided to try a neti pot.

I don’t actually have a neti pot, so I used a dropper, and it worked WONDERS. I’ll write more about this later.

www.AutoTrimDr.com.
I provide a unique BLACKOUT service to owners of vehicles and dealers that want to reclaim the new look of their vehicles. I use AIR BRUSH to restore the Black to faded plastics and rubber trims on the car.
And, I remove of the MILDEW / MUSHROOM that grows on the rubber window seals, roof rack seal and some other exterior parts and spray them to look new again. The Mushroom issue is more common on specific cars and makes the overall appearance of the car nasty.
Typically, cars two years old and over can use this service with the exception of some cars where the manufacturer uses higher quality materials or mildew resistant materials.
I provide unmatched quality of service because of the unique way I apply the paint, materials I use and few techniques I developed with the years.
I would like to offer my service at your dealership to your past and present clients.
One way to do this, is to send a mass email to your database of clients while we offer them the service thru the service department one day a week. The email may include another service like dent removal or anything else you want to get the people in the doors.
This will generate income to you by charging a premium over my charges, and by getting clients in the service department for other maintenance.
If you have other ideas, I am open to hear them at our next meeting.
The unique service and offer will distinguish this dealership from the competition.
I have many impressive before and after photos, which we can send in the email to attract clients.
For instance, because trucks like Toyota Tundra and the Sequoya have a mildew problem we can send a customized email to owners of these cars addressing issue.

TECHNICAL BULLETIN -

What you should know about

Cleaning your roof-

First and foremost you should know that….

Most Roofs, EVEN 10, 15, 20 + year old roofs can be SAFELY RESTORED to similar to like NEW LOOKING condition, without unnecessary spending to replace shingles that really just need to be properly cleaned.

Yes. Your read this statement correctly….

As long as most ANY asphalt or fiberglass shingle roof is not leaking, in other words, it is WATER TIGHT, has all of its shingles intact, is not excessively moss or algae covered and has not exceeded its normal manufacturer recommended service life and is not excessively curling or brittle, typically the roof can be saved and salvaged and brought back to useful life and a beautified appearance.

In other words, most any roof can be safely cleaned and restored to a similar to new condition within reason and using a common sense approach and specialized non pressure cleaning tool, techniques and properly adhering to certified safe standard roof cleaning methods.

UGLY Algae Stains, Black Streaks, Moss, Mildew, Mold, Lichen and Fungus can be removed safely, with NO DAMAGING high pressures, NO scrubbing, and no aggressive cleaning needed. There are proper methods and standards and a strict set of procedures to adhere to but cleaning a roof safely and completely and then applying an annual anti-algae type roof treatment can keep a roof looking its very best and performing in its teenage years and beyond if properly maintained.

One major key FACTOR to remember is:

NON-PRESSURE or NO Pressure= NO DAMAGE to Shingles

As long as damaging high pressure, washing methods are not used and soft washing standards and non abrasive cleaning methodology is employed the outcome should be a restored roof with a youthful appearance and additional roof life.

This positive prognosis can be expected if performed early enough before the algae, moss, mildew or other plant material has a chance to cause irreversible damage which can only be resolved with a complete roofing system tear off and replacement.

As long as these guidelines are followed,

Home and Commercial Property Owners may be able to SAVE THOUSANDS, over the cost of an expensive asphalt or fiberglass roof tear off and replacement!!

Roofing Industry studies have indicated that MOST roofs are replaced, according to a national poll, due in LARGE PART to the unattractive LOOK of the roof surface, NOT BECAUSE the roof is damaged or leaking.

In FACT, most homeowners don’t know of the roof cleaning OPTION or have ever been given another choice to replacement until….NOW!

Now you don’t have to WASTE hard earned money to replace a roof that can be EASILY cleaned for 1/10th the cost of replacement and in a much quicker time frame with no waste to fill up overburdened land fills, plus no lengthy construction inconvenience. Roof Cleaning can usually be performed and completed in LESS than ONE DAY!

The CHOICE is CLEAR and OBVIOUS……. DON’T REPLACE IT.CLEAN IT and $$$ SAVE MONEY $$$ !!

As you well know, your house is most likely your biggest investment and your roof is one of the most expensive parts of your house. It is extremely important to have the utmost in confidence in your decision before hiring a qualified roof cleaning contractor.

Certified Roof Cleaning Institute of America roof cleaning contractors only use chemicals approved by the ARMA* Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association and do not use pressure on your shingles.

A-R-C-A CERTIFIED roof cleaning contractors also provide our customers with technical bulletins directly from www.AsphaltRoofing.org and shingle manufacturers to prove that our procedures and chemicals are properly formulated for roof cleaning.

Our chemicals provide enough cleaning power to remove all mold, mildew, and streaks…without pressure washing or heavy rinsing.

In MOST Cases, AFTER CLEANING, we guarantee your roof will LOOK very close to, if not, 100% BRAND NEW!

Pressure washing is never recommended because it will remove a large amount of the ceramic coated granules from your shingles, which will void the warranty. Even low pressure will cause granule loss and shorten the life of your shingles. If you have ever cleaned out the inside of your gutters you will notice granules in them just from the rain taking them off.

Think what any additional pressure would do to your roof. For instance, you see someone cleaning a roof with pressure and it appears they have done a good job just because the streaks and discoloration are gone, but guess what?

So is a large amount of the protective ceramic coated granules which insure your shingle’s warranty. Nobody wants to replace a prematurely failed roof due to an incompetent roof cleaning contractor, and you shouldn’t have to.

We offer a conditional 2 year warranty against any streaks reappearing on your shingles.

With our “Roof ALWAYS Clean” Treatment and Maintenance PROGRAM your roof will never be STAINED or streaked again.

As a property owner, it is in your best interest to always use a “cleaning AGENT, chemical only” cleaning process for your roof.

Roof cleaning is a completely different trade from pressure washing requiring different pumps, plumbing, hoses, nozzles, valves, chemicals, caution, knowledge, experience, skill, and insurance. The certified RCIA roof cleaners have all of the necessary tools, and have learned from the best roof cleaning professionals in the country.

Make sure you know what kinds of chemicals are being applied on your property.

Do not accept “it’s biodegradable” for an answer. Even uranium is biodegradable over 50,000 years or so.

Because many “competitors” lack our roof cleaning equipment, knowledge, training, and experience, they sometimes apply a dangerously strong chemical solution. Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide will dissolve the asphalt and tar on your roof, shortening the life of your shingles and voiding the roof’s warranty.

Even sodium metasilicate is too corrosive.

Our chemicals do all of the work to remove streaks and discoloration from your roof and require no pressure or heavy rinsing. Because we do not have to rinse, your roof will stay cleaner longer than our competitors. Leaving the chemicals on the roof creates a roof treatment or a hostile environment for future algae growth. Each time it rains, a small amount of chemical is washed off to help re-clean your roof over and over again.

Are you, Concerned about your plants, pets, and landscaping?

We only spray the roof, not your plants. We always bag the ends of your downspouts; collect all the chemical run-off from the roof and dispose of them away from your landscaping.

If the roof does not have gutters we will thoroughly dilute the roof cleaning chemical down to safe levels by spraying the landscaping with water before, during, and after applying chemical.

After the chemical biodegrades and evaporates from the roof, the dried crystals and surfactant act as a roof treatment to keep the roof cleaner longer as it rains.

We have had to go behind many competitors who pressure wash or rinse their customer’s roofs, which start growing mold and streaks after only 1 year.

We guarantee our roof cleaning will outlast our competitors!

The price of cleaning your roof vs. replacing it, averages 1/10 the cost!

IT DOESN’T COST, IT PAYS TO CLEAN YOUR ROOF!

SAVE YOURSELF $ THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS $!!!

Don’t let mould stand in your way!

Your REALTOR® can recognize external signs of a damp basement and must disclose any information they are privy to regarding defects, though the best and safest step is to hire a reputable home inspector. Having said all that, it is a good idea for you to know what to look for as well.

The 5 S’s for Signs of a Soggy Basement:

Storage

Are the bottoms of boxes damp/damaged?

Have items been stored up off the floor?

Stink

Is there a musty smell?

Stains

Closely examine the walls for signs of water stains, peeling paint, mould, mildew and efflorescence (a white precipitate remaining on the cement after evaporation)

You may need to look at the flooring and the ceiling as well

Signs of water leakage

Water causes rust to form on nails, electrical outlet boxes and other metal objects in contact with the floor/walls, i.e. appliances or metal shelving

Sills

Have a look around the window wells, inside and out, for water stains and water damage

Causes and remedies vary, but in general it is best to ensure that all land slopes away from the house, and that a proper eaves system is in place to expel rainwater a minimum of 6 feet away from the house. Your REALTOR® should find out about any problems you are concerned about, and should always advise you to get a complete home inspection. In my opinion, the information on a Seller’s SPIS (Seller Property Information Statement) should always be verified as well.

After the joy of winning a first prize in the Naul Horticultural Show for parsley which grows well under the apple tree, I was then brought back down to earth to discover a white fungus on a branch of the apple tree above. I read up on the symptoms in ‘Natural Pest and Disease Control’ by Jim Hay, a Century Paperback from 1987.

The symptoms match apple powdery mildew, a fungus disease which overwinters on the tree in the dormant buds. I cut away the infested branch area using a saw. I took the infected wood indoors to further cut it up for the fire in winter. Some organic growers put bee’s wax on the wound left by the cut, others say leave it to heal on its own. Jim Hay says if the disease persists, spray with a lime sulphur solution immediately after the blossom has fallen in the Spring and again four weeks later.

Meanwhile, I will clear some of the vegetation under the apple tree as lack of air circulating could be a contributory factor in creating conditions for apple powdery mildew which is also quite sticky, a bit like candy floss.

Tomorrow some UFT reps are coming by because I and several teachers demanded that the union look into the filth, odors, mold, and who knows what else is making us sick. This was a problem before, but it is much worse now. Ninety percent of us have constant headaches, sneezing attacks, sore/scratchy throats, congestion, nasal drip. For me, the headaches are the worst.
One colleague was out after not missing a day of work in his entire nineteen years with the NYC schools. Students routinely come in and develop respiratory issues; many ask if they can put their heads down because of headaches.
This has gone on long enough.
One of my colleagues has an air filter in his classroom. It’s useless. It must be emptied every two to three days. Last week,it smelled like there was a dead animal behind the auditorium walls, and there’s a pervasive mildew smell in one of the stairwells. Same guy with the useless air filter must put five trash cans in his room when it rains to collect water that comes in.He’s on the first floor. Our building has three.

I was diagnosed some time back with pneumonia and asthma, which I never had before, and which resulted in my taking off more than a week. This place sucks. I wish someone would take pictures and video of this crap and put it up next to Bloomberg’s eye-catching and full-of-shit advertising.
