For alle som har bodd i Australia kommer vel ikke denne posten som noen overraskelse. Er det noe Australia er skikkelig dårlig på, i tillegg til steinalder internett, så er det reklamer.

Men bør vel kanskje forklare hvorfor. Australia, for de som ikke er helt stødig i geografi, ER VELDIG STORT. Det betyr at mye av den reklamen som man ser på tv er laget for den regionen som man er i, istedenfor hele landet som en helhet. Det er selvsagt enkelte reklamer som går landet rundt, men veldig mange er kun laget for “ditt” område. Det betyr igjen at det er lokale bedrifter med mindre budsjetter som står bak reklamene. Det igjen går utover “kvaliteten”.

Har prøvd å finne frem noen skikkelige gode eksempler. Har funnet noen, men den reklamen jeg ville finne fant jeg ikke. Men for å beskrive hvor dårlig og plagsom den er, så er det faktisk en gruppe på Facebook som er dedikert (eller heter det dedisert) til damen som spiller i reklamen. Gruppen heter “The girl from the Vista Blinds ad must die”

En fyr som min kjære “samboer” ikke er særlig glad i er Paulie fra Autobarn. Dere får bedømme selv, men tror Håkon er inne på noe. Legg forresten merke til fingerarbeidet på slutten av reklamen.

Et annet godt eksempel på en heller dårlig lokal laget reklame som jeg kom over er denne som handler om store maskiner på salg. Får vel ikke akkurat “mer” lyst på gravemaskin etter dette.

Selv store selskaper kan også gå på noen smeller. Denne “klassikeren fra 80-tallet er jeg heller glad for at jeg ikke fikk oppleve.

Håper folk ser hvorfor dette er irretabelt. For man skal huske at Australsk TV kjører samme reklame interval som TV3 i Norge, dvs, reklame HVERT FJERDE MINUTT!!! Og så i tillegg må man holde ut med dette her og ting som er enda verre.

Er det rart jeg blir irritert?

BONUS OG EKSEMPEL PÅ GLIMRENDE REKLAME

Denne Norske juvelen her er noe av det beste som reklameverdenen kan tilby. Komedien til Trond Kirkevaag og musikken til Prima Vera i fint samspill. Og for oss som er i en viss alder kan faktisk huske den gangen Milkshaken kom i den embalasjen.

É impressionante como há coisas em nossa própria cidade que não buscamos conhecer exceto que haja um impulso externo. Para os eventos que eu citei nos posts anteriores, um amigo da época do mestrado ficou hospedado aqui em casa e, é claro, quis aproveitar ao máximo o tempo em Porto Alegre (que ele não conhecia). Eis os lugares aonde fomos:

Churrascaria Porto Belo – almoçamos lá na quinta-feira, meu amigo e eu. Ele fez a propaganda e na sexta voltamos com mais dois visitantes de Brasília. Dizem eles que por lá não se encontra churrascaria barata. Por aqui, com R$13 se come churrasco muito saboroso. A Porto Belo fica na rua São Manoel, 1400.

Copão – é bem verdade que eu frequentava o Copão na época da faculdade. Mas desde então nunca mais tinha estado lá, então foi quase como conhecer. É um lugar simples, mas agradável, a cerveja estava bem gelada e a porção mista (coração, frango e calabresa) é ótima. Ah, e como um amigo do meu amigo estava hospedado no hotel Master, bem ao lado do bar, o Copão foi o ponto de partida. Fomos nada menos do que três vezes. O Copão fica na Lima e Silva, 312.

Dublin – é, eu nunca tinha entrado na Dublin. Confesso que danceterias não são o meio habitat natural, mas gostei dessa. Em especial porque a banda estava ótima. Se chama The Youngles e toca covers de clássicos do rock. Isso sem contar que era uma terça-feira, e mesmo assim tinha um público bom. A Dublin fica na Padre Chagas, 342.

Preto Zé – é, também nunca tinha frequentado. Adorei o ambiente, a banda e o público. Só tive problema com o fato de ele ser todo fechado. E infelizmente foi o lugar em que menos se respeitou a nova lei antifumo. Mas valeu, deu pra dançar uns belos sambas. O Preto Zé fica na João Alfredo, 486.

Santíssimo – provavelmente o lugar mais legal de todos os que conheci essa semana. O ambiente é muito legal, com decoração rústica, o atendimento foi ótimo, e o cardápio traz bastantes opções. Seguindo a sugestão da garçonete, pedimos o prato “linguiça do padre” (ou outro nome de duplo sentido desse tipo, hehehe), que vinha com dois molhos, ambos excelentes. Misturando-se os dois, tinha-se um resultado genial. Me esbaldei. De negativo, apenas o fato de que, das poucas cervejas importadas do cardápio, todas estavam em falta exceto a Quilmes. O Santíssimo fica na Sarmento Leite, 888 (esq. com a Lima e Silva).

Temaky Express – não faz meu estilo, alias, passa longe, tanto em termos de público quanto de ambiente. Tanto que tomamos uma cerveja e saímos rapidinho. E não pretendo voltar. O Temaky Express fica na Padre Chagas, 65.

Ah, e vcs se lembram do meu ranking dos milkshakes? Pois me aproveitando de que os eventos do Ministério das Cidades aconteceram no Instituto Goethe, levei meu amigo e uma colega participante ao Joe’s, onde todos tomamos shakes no sabor Alpino. Vamos dizer apenas que eles gostaram bastante. Eu acerto de vez em quando, hehehe.

Oldies Cafe has their own many unique milkshakes, all of them look so yummy that I thought to myself, I will try to taste all the milkshake menus here!!

I had their dessert, Waffle with chocolate ice-cream,… I didn’t like the whip cream, however, the waffle itself was so nice, for people who likes chewy/sticky kind of waffle!

Visit the Oldies Cafe when you feel in need of a 60s feel to your life

It’s always interesting to dig through old documents saved on your computer that you only vaguely remember writing. Personally, I always find these little, as Peter would say, Word doodles that came during these spurts of desperately wanting to write as well as Deanna  inspiration and I just had to get everything in my head out somewhere fast while it was there. 

I’ve been getting into writing a lot more so far this school year. Unfortunately for you few readers (you’re out there, right? ….*crickets*), most of that ends up beign in a personal journal of my own – a notebook that I write in during the school day.  I try to keep in mind that I need to just type up some of the most thinky snippits I write, I just never get around to doing so.

Anyway, that being said, I thought I’d share with you a word doodle that I just found. I actually love it and am thinking about reviving it and turning it into something more (like I probably originally planned to). Here goes.(I remember that, when I wrote it, I left gaps between the paragraphs where I wanted to add something, but I couldn’t think of the perfect something at that time. So there are parts where you know there’s something missing. That’s okay. Bear with me.)

The last thing he said to her was “Don’t think you’re so special.”

He said this after he told her that she only ever thought of herself and that she was too high maintenance for him, that he didn’t want to take care of her. After he told her that he resented her family.  After he told her she had become boring to him, after he told her that she wasn’t worth his time.

He told her this after she had told him “I love you.”

Two years they had been together.  And now, the only thing Tilly was able to feel was a boiling, melting mixture of rage, hurt, brokenness, disbelief, fear, pain.  Here, she thought that she found someone who she could give her whole self to, someone she could hand her heart to and be sure that he would take care of it, someone she thought she could be a better Tilly with than without.

Guess she was wrong.

                Tilly was feeling uncomfortable with the noises her straw made, sucking up the last bit of a chocolate and peanut butter milkshake from the bottom of her glass when she heard her phone chirp. Flipping it open, she saw a text from her roommate asking her to bring home fries while she was out.

Before her stood a tall man of about twenty-five with shaggy blonde hair and curious, green eyes. His name tag said “Jenson.”

                “Um, yes, you could say that.”  Tilly had seen this man around her favorite diner, The Encore, before but an occasion to talk to him had never arisen.

                “I see you around here pretty often.”

I swear, someday, I am going to be a fat kid. I decided I needed to go get some ice cream to make a milkshake… and I accidentally came home from the store with this: Ice cream, coke, frozen lemonade, and a dozen donuts.

Big Sister says:  that’s a fairly normal grocery trip for him.  Although there’s no starbucks… That’s different

Well the important thing is, I got my milkshake [thank you magic bullet, they need those are baskin robbins!]. So all is well with the world.

After spending last week dying with the swine, Big Sister says:  haha you’re a pigggggg I went to New York for the weekend. Eating Machine told me how I could write about my food in NY for my next post, well I didnt think to take pictures of my extremely fancy food in NY. This is what I ate though: Mcdonalds, White Castle, Dunkin Donuts [america runs on dunkin!]. Big Sister says:  it is Baby Brother’s dream to someday have a Baskin Robbins Dunkin Donuts store.  They exist.  Then he binge on donuts coffee AND ice cream while at work. I had never been to New York, my list of things to do there was: Go to McDonalds/Starbucks in Times Square, go to 5th ave. Apple store.

Big Sister says:  He put up an album on facebook of NY.  It was McDonalds, Starbucks, and the Mac store.  The boy has priorities.

So Eating Machine got food poisoning from Burger King last week, and today I was thinking about that and decided that burger king sounded really good! [yeah, food poisoning made me want burger king. oops] so for lunch i went and got some wonderful burger king.

He also got some for our mom.  And told her how he thought about my food poisoning. What a great son.”Here mommy, I got you salmonella!”

is that a slurpee with my meal? i wonder how that got there? ok so i had a slurpee, a smoothie, and my dr pepper the meal came with. again, accident. oops. my bad. And seriously, Burger King chicken fries are amazing. i would put them on my list of food jesus makes. and jesus doesnt give out food poisoning.

What is the coolest trip you have ever gone on? New York was pretty cool, except I was still sick and running around the city kind of killed me.

Disclaimer: Of all the reviews I’ve ever done, this HAS to be one of the most random.

On to the review!

For my birthday last month, Del Taco e-mailed me a coupon good for one free milkshake.

A milkshake? From Del Taco? Seriously?

But who am I to refuse free food? I went to Del Taco and demanded my free strawberry milkshake.

“Would you like whipped cream?” asked the guy taking my order. One guess how I replied.

So there it was: my first-ever Del Taco milkshake. I shrugged and stuck in a straw.

Man alive, people, it was THICK!! I’m talking real hand-scooped ice-cream, In-N-Out-better-watch-out THICK!!

And it tasted great – like frozen strawberries and cream (and tons of sugar, I’m sure). Never thought I’d be giving a positive review to a milkshake, much less a milkshake from Del Taco, of all places.

And all that just to say: if you’ve gotta hankerin’ for a milkshake and there’s a Del Taco nearby, I highly recommend that you check it out.

I'm a Frijj's lover

Ni fish and chip, ni Big ben, ni Tate modern, lo mejor de Londres es sin duda los batidos Frijj!  Su sabor, su espesor, su color, hace de ellos los mejores milkshakes que he probado en mi vida. Hay de todo tipo pero el mejor con diferencia es el de Brownie uff si te tomas uno entero ya te puedes dar por comido y cenado xd.

En fin cambiemos de tema! Estas semanas han estado bastante moviditas. He comenzado el curso de producción de videoclips y paralelamente otro de inglés. Tenía bastante miedo de no enterarme de nada o que el profesor tuviera un acento muy cerrado pero por suerte no ha habido ningún problema y la clase ha ido genial. Tengo la impresión que puedo aprender mucho de este curso. Del curso de inglés poca cosa a contar, es a las 9 de la mañana y speaking y más speaking. Aprendo bastante vocabulario que es justo lo que necesito. Mi oreja se está adaptando cada vez más al inglés aunque sigo sin entender los  locutores del metro xd

Mi próximo proyecto es hacer un montaje de 2-3minutos con todo el material que he ido haciendo estos años. Lástima que de repente mi disco duro haya hecho BOOOOOOOOOOOM! y haya perdido todo lo que había dentro. Con un poco de suerte espero tener los originales en el pc de Barcelona.

A partir de ahora prometo actualizar más!!!

Let’s just jump right in to this, shall we? I really want some pizza! Also, a sandwich! Basically, anything other than soup.

Making this soup challenge even more difficult is that yesterday I went to a party at my mom’s house in Sandusky/Norwalk. This party included the following things: a two-hour drive with my cousin, her husband, and their four boys who were eating Goldfish crackers and delicious smelling pretzels; a potluck with my mom’s taco salad, my aunt’s green beans with crunchy onions on top, my cousin’s pasta dish with pesto and artichokes, my mom’s fiance’s burgers with cheese, coleslaw, cream puffs, a caramel apple pie, a pumpkin pie, and my grandma’s beef vegetable soup that my mom made for me. As I sat at the table surrounded by people eating this delicious food, I ate my soup. I began to question this whole thing. I want some of that food! I did not eat any of it, though, and I was glad I didn’t because later as I was milling around, I heard my mom telling people about it.

“Oh yeah, she’s just eating soup. And she has a blog!”

My mom seemed so excited to use the word “blog,” and possibly even more excited to tell people that I had a blog. I’m pretty sure she has never even visited a blog, let alone talked about one. It was very cute, and I think I will continue with this whole thing if only to provide my mother more opportunities to tell people that her daughter has a blog.

It got hard again today, though, when my roommate A came back from Nashville and we went to Panidas (or Panera) to get dinner. For me: cream of tomato soup. For him: broccoli and cheddar soup (solidarity!) and mac and cheese. He got out the hot sauce and was eating that mac and cheese like it ain’t no thang, and I was in hell. Still hungry from my soupy dinner, that shit looked badass. I might have caved and tried some if he got the ranch dressing out, but he did not. So I’m still good.

Then my friend L came over with cookies. I was hoping they would be oatmeal because I very much dislike oatmeal. No! They were chocolate walnut cookies! Ugh. You might think this story is over if you have not read the title of this post, but it is not. A also had brownies that he brought back from this great place in Dayton. Oh, A and L are going to share one! What kind do they want? Blondie? Cream cheese (cheese!), German chocolate, or salty caramel? They look over at me with pity, and I whine at them not to look at me. But then, A to the rescue!

“Could you have this brownie if I made it into a milkshake?”

You bet your sweet ass I could! Warning: I did not realize that my camera was zoomed in until it was too late. And it was zoomed WAY in.

For those of you who have sharp ears, did you hear the vibrating during the video? That was Mike BBMing about if he could put nuggets in chili.

Let’s get to the matter at hand, though. The milkshake. Well, it was made with part of the brownie, some milk, some chocolate sauce, and ice. Therein lies the problem. At first taste, the milkshake tasted like a protein shake, and I believe that is because of the chocolate flavor and the ice. That is how I used to make my protein shakes, anyway. Well, minus the brownie. But after a few sips, I got a chunk of brownie! Yay! And then the best surprise was at the bottom where I found all kinds of brownie chunks! Delicious!

And so I have made it through another day. Thanks to A for the brownie milkshake and Mom for the soup, which I have a huge bowl of and will eat for the rest of the week. Also Mom’s fiance M for being a good sport and putting up with her having to make me soup for this party and for Thanksgiving in a few weeks. Onward!

Flicking between channels in the morning I noticed Channel 5 early morning kids show ‘Milkshake’ which shows different kids animations. Obviously it isn’t aimed at me, but I was impressed at the different styles of animation they had. From a Bert and Ernie claymation show, a cartoon network style of animation sketch show for Mr.Men and although I haven’t been up early enough to watch it I used to watch it as a kid myself… Fireman Sam. There was others with interesting animations but these are the ones I remembered and was most impressed with. So having a quick look at Youtube here is some examples of good animation:

There was a plate of hot donuts to snack on while we waited. L.’s face after the first long draw on the milkshake was the one I first fell for, all bliss. The fries were Platonic fries, covered in flake salt and hot. When we got up to leave, L. had to sidle sideways past the table of pinched lovers eating eggs with their Sunday Times. Hope they enjoy their huevass rancheros I cracked, which got an enormous laugh on our walk through the market on the way to the train. Nice recommendation, S.

Distracted by football, but I still like this sport(s people). Kind of.
