Direção: Nora Ephron. Elenco: Amy Adams, Meryl Streep, Chris Messina.

Prestemos muita atenção neste longa. Possivelmente poderá estar concorrendo em alguma categoria do Oscar no ano que vem. Nora tem um estilo próprio e muito gostoso de filmas seus longas. Dá gosto de ver. Sobre Streep, é “A ATRIZ”.

Planeta 51: Os habitantes do Planeta 51 vivem aterrorizados pelo medo de um ataque alienígena. Sua paranóia se concretiza com a chegada de um astronauta da Terra.

Direção: Javier Abad e Marcos Martinez. Com vozes de: Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Jessica Biel.

Pela sinopse, dá para perceber que é uma história diferente. Dessa vez, nós terráqueos somos os intrusos. Acho que vou assistir.

Do Começo ao Fim: Filhos de pais diferentes, os irmãos Francisco e Thomas têm uma relação muito forte desde a infância. Já adultos, passam a morar juntos e vivem uma intensa história de amor.

Direção: Aluízio Abranches. Elenco: Rafael Cardoso, João Gabriel Vasconcellos, Júlia Lemmertz.

Já estou vendo manchetes pela internet: “Filme polêmico”. Só sabem falar isso? O importante é que seja uma história bem contada. Não?

Cidadão Boilesen: Através da surpreendente vida de Henning Boilesen, o documentário revela a ligação política e econômica entre empresários e militares no combate à luta armada durante o regime militar brasileiro.

Direção: Chaim Litewski.

Vou dizer que parece interessante hein…Para quem gosta de História, é uma boa pedida. Documentários são sempre bons de assistir quando se quer  refletir um pouquinho.

A Trilha: Dois casais de amigos passando férias no Havaí descobrem que um grupo de psicopatas está perseguindo e matando turistas.

Direção: David Twohy. Elenco: Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant.

Cá entre nós, este longa é bem diferente dos thrillers de ação convencionais. Se você está procurando um pouco de adrenalina ao sentar na poltrona de cinema, este aqui vale a pena. Um bom entretenimento.

Entre a luz e a sombra (São Paulo e Belo Horizonte): A História de pessoas que dedicam sua vida para humanizar o sistema carcerário, como a atriz Sophia Bisilliat, a dupla de rap formada por Dexter e Afro-X dentro do Carandiru e um juiz que acredita em um meio de ressocialização mais digno para os encarcerados.

Direção: Luciana Burlamaqui.

Não vi. Porém, esse é o tipo de documentário que deveria nos representar. Estamos perdendo tempo demais mostrando problemas. Está na hora do cinema mostrar como resolvê-los. Não na mesma moeda em que coisas ruins acontecem. Humanização. Seja lá como for, precisamos disso.

Ok, so its a little hoaxy and somewhat hard to believe. Its unimaginable to say that alien abductions are real or that people secretly disappear because a snow owl stares a them 24/7. But to me, the fiction/reality of Abigail Tylers (the film used fake alias to protect its actual personal) documented life seems a little more thrilling to me then theories or folk tales. At one point, I was wondering if she really existed. And if she is, I would love to have a conversation with her. She may look pale and dried up but her oncoming chilling presence and stuttering voice seems to attract your naked eye and ears. Her reality became my adventure and boy was it something. I wont forget her gloomy eyes when a drip of tear had befallen on her check as I sit there hoping that someone has an answer. An answer to solve a mystery that took away a innocent life. Many for that matter.

Whether you believe in it or not is really not the point here. The cross reference was a cheap trick but was quite effective. All the audio and video evidence was nothing more then to showcase raw material of the subject matter. Matter that are confused and emotionally detached. Simple humans living on the snowy mountains of Nome Alaska are missing and some psychiatrist starts hypnotizing patients into remembering nightmares or blurred visions. All seems a little too hard to believe and its reenactment of actual footage simply helps you to derive in this phenomena. But who chose Milla Jovovich to be a psychiatrist? Its like choosing Tara Ried to be a archeologist. But she does decent enough for us not to mention it but Will Patton who plays as a sheriff in the film just has some flashes of horrendous acting. Maybe that was a problem.

When someone says that this film is based on case studies seems a little offsetting as usually you say events or novel or game. But its a new idea to freshen up upcoming projects who want to make films based on some doctors study of alien abduction. Maybe it could be the new trend. But to me that dont matter because the most important part was when the blind daughter of Abigail Tyler goes missing (claimed to be abducted by aliens in courtesy mother), the film then takes a emotional shift. One that clears away the aliens but now comes to will power and motherly love. This is by far the more important value of the film. Ignore the sessions, the middle speculation, Samarian culture, and focus on the reality check of Abigail (Milla).

The pretension of alien abduction doesnt clear a way into people but what should is the ending moment of a mother who lost everything due to the curiosity of mystery. When she sits and slowly explains her natural intention of revisiting alien abduction, it became apparent that love became more of a motivation then to finish something that nearly destroyed her. The reunion of her and her daughter was all the proof it needed and her gesture seemed more then enough to be convincing. Her speech at the end took me away. I was no longer watching someone who was delusional or insane but someone who felt regret and is helplessly finding remorse. Sympathy is just the first reaction as she speaks out with teary eyes and pictures of the little girl are shown when she was much happier. Through the moral epilogue, I could no longer find any strength to argue her claimed existence or her questionable judgment. I could care less about real or fictitious events that occurred on a small town in Alaska. All that matters was how emotions took so many things away and her inability to react cost her not just her life but everybody around her. No longer was one person at fault but anyone who failed to react. That her judgment became her ultimate sin and forgiveness is seemingly invisible to her well being as she sits hopelessly looking for hope. And to that lesson, behavioral science became more then just a sport but the embodiment of freedom. Its that very unconditional feeling that helps us forget speculation of the fourth kind. In its respective note, it found something far more important then aliens as it slowly unwraps itself. It is now a story, a memorable one. To us, its a delusional dream. To Abigail, it was a frightening reality.

The fourth kind isnt the scariest dramatized documentary or the most balanced but morally in shape and capable of moving you with its ability to tell a story in the most traumatizing way, one that gets attention and certainly, one that can force a tear or two.

Resident Evil Afterlife cuenta con varios actores tales como: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Spencer Locke, Wentworth Miller, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Kim Coates y actualmente se encuentran filmando en Toronto. La cinta se supone que se estrenará en el cine el 27 de agosto del 2010.

This laser shoulder detail is the hottest on-stage costume ever! Ever!

When I saw Rihanna’s performance at the AMA’s Sunday night, I thought “hmm, something looks familiar”, then I brushed it off, continued to enjoy the performance, got up the following morning and browsed the web:

LOW & BEHOLD, the fly folks over at Stuff Fly People Like pointed out that she was tapping into her “Fifth Element”. Why of course! Rihanna’s look was totally pulled from the 1997 flick about the future (supposedly year 2259, when cars fly & subway’s run vertically), tapping into the created character, recreated from the fifth element and dubbed as “the perfect being”, Leeloo, played by Milla Jovovich.

The original costume was created by French powerhouse, Jean-Paul Gaultier, who created 954 costumes for the science fantasy film. The “Leeloo” look has become extremely popular over the years, with many people rocking it for Halloween:

Well, I don’t know (or care) if she was even nominated for anything at that wack award show but she certainly beat out everybody else with her outfit:

Action filmmaker and producer Luc Besson has always had an eye for action and having the ability to showcase it in a strange and unusual way. He honed the skills of Jet Li and Jason Statham with glorious success. He even turned his ex-lover Milla Jovovich into a female wrecking machine.

Now Besson hopes to find the next great action star in French sensation David Belle who founded a new form of martial arts called parkour. This new form is basically where the artist attempts to pass obstacles in the fastest and most direct manner possible by running, jumping, climbing, sliding, ducking and so forth.

Co-writer Luc Besson and director Pierre Morel sculpt out a story where an undercover cop (Cyril Raffaelli) must infiltrate one of the nastiest neighborhoods in 2010 Paris. The neighborhood is District 13.

The cop is joined by a convict (David Belle) who will guide him in his pursuit to find a neutron bomb somewhere in the district. But the convict also has an agenda all his own. Don’t they always.

The film’s plot, setup, direction and cinematography leave a lot to be desired. But if they were all state of the art and amazing then I guess we wouldn’t really be able to see what Belle can do with his “parkour”.

The sequences where parkour is focused are amazing and the stunt work flawless. It kind of reminded me a lot of the better Jackie Chan movies. You know where you stop and say to yourself, how do they do that?

The acting in the film reminded me of old “Godzilla” movies or Power Rangers episodes because even though I saw the film with subtitles and in its original French it still looked like it was dubbed and the audio was horrendous.

A-class stunts + lame ass plot = rental. Or at least it does in my books.

It has been way too long since we saw a hot man bein’ hot of the day around here. Vincent Cassel, take it away!

Brilliant oddball Vincent Cassel is married to a personal heroine, Monica Bellucci — ten years in August. Impressive! He is a director, actor, writer and musician. Generally he plays maniacs and bad guys (I love crazy).

He has said of his being typecast in tough guy parts, “It’s all right. I like playing baddies.” The first role in which I ever saw him was as Gilles de Rais in Luc Besson’s 1999 film The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, which for my Catholic, action-movie-loving, Milla-Jovovich-adoring money is one of the best freakin’ movies evah.

Some of Vincent’s english-language credits from which you might recognize him include Elizabeth, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen, Eastern Promises, and the forthcoming Darren Aronofsky picture Black Swan, which will also star Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder, and Barbara Hershey (freaking awesome).

A musician among his other many talents, Vincent performed the song “Step Da Step Krugom” in Eastern Promises. He also appeared as the voice of Monsieur Hood and sang the gay, snappy little Merry Men number in Shrek — you know, the scene in the wood where Princess Fiona kicks their asses all Matrix style.

Resident Evil: Afterlife hasn’t enough finished wrapping and there is loose talk of another sequel. Producer Jeremy Bolt spoke with Shock Till You Drop and says, “If it does well enough obviously we’ll do another one…Yes, we are hoping [we can get the new characters seen in 'Afterlife' back], that would be a dream to have another three [films].” A new R.E. trilogy, hmmm…

I think parents need to take a lot more responsibility than they do about whether it’s OK for their children to go to Resident Evil or any other movie with violence or sex or whatever. It’s really easy to blame Hollywood for violence having an effect on kids, but movies would have no power if parents would just set their own standards.

I find this troubling because I took my daughter to Resident Evil: Apocalypse on its opening day. She was 5 months old and I wore her in a sling. She spent the whole time asleep. I think as long as I keep the kidlet away from this journal, that’s at least two steps in the right direction.

I’m getting pumped for GENaustin’s Girls Now! conference, which is taking place today at the Ann Richards School. I’m doing two music history workshops with Kristen, along with GRCA alums Izzy and LaRessa and we’re gonna rock. 

I also wanted to remind you that the Austin Asian American Film Festival is still going strong this weekend. AAAFF is showing Persepolis for free tonight at Town Lake. I’ll be at a friend’s birthday party and won’t be able to make it, but hopefully I’ll see you at the JenRo/MenRG show at the Music Gym later tonight. Before swinging by Nomad for Karaoke Underground, of course. And while I won’t be able to attend the first Paradise Titty show at the Creekside Lounge, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.

Since AAAFF’s got me thinking about independent and/or arthouse cinema, I thought I’d highlight a music video that was clearly inspired by the avant-garde. The Fourth Kind was pretty scary. Milla Jovovich plays a convincing part in this movie, portraying what happens to Doctor Abigail Tyler.

It’s terrifying when you hear the taped screams of an alien abduction and how Nome Alaska has several people missing and strange suicides happening, which are all connected to the Alien Abductions going on in the area.

Some people didn’t believe it and they were laughing about it.

However, I don’t think they realized what they were watching really happened to someone.
