Uzun zamandır (5 ayı aşkın süredir), beni şaşırtan ama buram buram da portakal kokan bir parfüm arıyordum.

Hem eski alışkanlıklarımdan vazgeçemeyip hem de yeni bir şeyler denemeyi arzu ediyordum ama asla en yeni, en alışılmadık gibi bir takıntım yoktur. İyi reklam yapılan birçok ürünün –özellikle de parfümün (actress / actor endorsements!) – çok başarısız olduğuna sıklıkla şahit olmuşumdur. Bu sebeple arkadaşlarımın önerileri ve annemin, özellikle de eşimin yorumu önemli. Zencefil ve vetiver ağırlıklı Bulgari den sonra, (yazı da kaçırdım ama) yaz kokumu henüz bulabildim!

Öncelikle hiçbirinin yeni parfümler olmadığını hatırlatmak isterim..

Portakal takıntımı duyan bir arkadaşımın önerisiyle, Clarins  Happy aldım. İlk giyildiğinde keskin ve rahatsız edici bir his veriyor ancak bir süre sonra gerçekten hoş bir portakal kokusu alabiliyorsunuz.. Ancak itiraf etmeliyim; çok kalıcı olmuyor.

Ayrıca Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) evinin -eşimin bugünlerde favorisi olan- Baby Doll’unu aldım. Eğer seneler evvel (seneler dediysem o dönem lisedeydim), YSL evinin beni en çok etkileyen parfümü In Love Again’i bilen ve sevenleriniz varsa (-ki artık bulma imkanı yok), Baby Doll’ün, In Love Again’in şekil ve isim değiştirmiş ve neredeyse hiç farkı olmayan bir versiyonu olduğunu söyleyebilirim.

Ben bu parfüm işini cidden çok ince eleyip sık dokur oldum. Narenciye takıntısıdır gidiyor. Oldum olası meyveli kokular severim. Unisex kokuları  da öyle. Ama Guerlain’e nedense ısınamadım. Bu sebeple bir süredir Miller Harris ile ilgileniyorum. Bilenleriniz olabilir; Harris’in Le Petit Grain isimli unisex parfümü, ‘Best New Fragrance – Limited Distribution’ CEW  2009 ödülü sahibi… Ancak Citrus serisinin parfümlerini bulamıyordum; sonunda ulaşmayı başardım: Citrus serisinden Le Petit Grain (Minik Tanecik), üst notalarında çam ağırlıklı bir parfüm; tabi vetiver, paçuli, Sicilya limonu, tatlı portakal ve bergamutu da atlamamak gerek. Denediğimde birkaç arkadaşımdan yorum istedim: Hakan ve Cem, yıllar evvel kullandığı Pino isimli çam parfümüne benzetti.   Nilay çok beğendi ve eşine söyleyip kendisine hediye etmesini isteyeceğini belirtti.

Orgül ise, Citron Citron ve Tangerine Vert’i (Yeşil Mandalina) çok beğendi. İspanyol portakalı, Sicilya limonu, yosun ve nane ile harmanlanmış. Bana göre her ikisi de limon kolonyası gibi.

Her seferinde eşim limon kolonyası sürüp sürmediğimi soruyor!

Annemim favorisi ise, Piment des Baies (Biber Koyları) oldu, benim de favorim o. En kalıcı ve yoğun aromalı olan ve adı gibi, biber keskinliğinde.. Üst notalarda yine bergamot ve portakal var. Oryantal tarzı yanı sıra bana göre çok çekici bir parfüm.

Özetle Harris’in parfümlerinin herkese hitap etmeyeceğini belirtmeliyim. Ancak kesinlikle gizemli ve ilgi çekiciler.. Hem eşler birbirine ortak da olabilir..

Lauren Child and my past boss from Puffin, Francesca Dow

Puffin and Lauren Child celebrated the pre-publication launch for Lauren’s first solo picture book in 5 years in complete style! The new book is called Who Wants to be a Poodle, I don’t and will be published in September. The poodle in the title is a very pampered, primped and preened little dog called Trixie Twinkle Toes. The launch was held at Miller Harris, the luxury fragrance house in Mayfair. The guests apparently received “fragrance profiling” which sounds pretty amazing!

I’m really excited to see how this and Lauren’s new Ruby Redfort series turn out!

We’re all guilty of the duty-free pit stop. It’s nearly impossible to resist spritzing yourself before boarding an international flight, particularly when you’ve got twenty minutes to kill.  Today Pattern Pulp is exploring perfumes that are slightly under the radar.  Scents that take a bit of exploring to find, yet are true favorites among their fan base.  Each of these brands has taken a similar stab at adorning their packaging with intricate florals, a common theme throughout the beauty industry. Sula, a side project of Susanne Lang, a Canadian parfumerie, is an affordable scent that intertwines theme-specific patterns with asymmetrical negative space. In an attempt to trace organic steps to this endpoint, real life inspiration can be found on this Jane Street apartment building as branches span the cement in upward growth.

Miller Harris’s signature floral etchings are equal parts raw and luxurious.  Following suit, Tocca, known for their understated elegance, has feminized tattoo illustrations for their latest line of fragrances.  Tsi-la Organics, a new player to the team, combines delicate florals with darker tones, enclosing their bottles in a signature black lotus box covered with spot varnish monochromatic detailing.

Fresh has been producing beautifully intricate packaging for as long as I can remember.  Incorporating delicate details such as wire, metallic thread and jade colored pebbles, the outer mementos are are as appealing (if not more) than the actual product- a successful marketing move when alluring first time buyers and gift recipients.

Comments: Starts with a chlorinated pool blast, then becomes a pleasant lemon verbena-ish scent. Becomes slightly muskier and mossier. Gone in less than 3 hours. Add to the golf scent pile.

Date: 7/5/08 Weather: 71 degrees, drizzly

Comments: Sniffing branches. There is a saliva-ish quality to this one that’s not entirely unpleasant. After an hour, becomes significantly muskier.

Si je vous dis Laura Ashley, à quoi pensez-vous? A de beaux imprimés fleuris, couleur pastel et romantiques. Bravo, vous avez gagné!

Maintenant, si je vous demande le parfum que porte la jeune femme qui se trouve dans sa chambre dans une province anglaise, assise sur son fauteuil près de la fenêtre, lisant un roman? Un parfum de chez Miller Harris! Encore gagné! Mais vous êtes incroyable! Et son ami? Bon, bon, cela suffit, on a bien compris…
Ce petit questionnaire avait pour but de vous donner une idée, chers lecteurs, du sentiment qui s’est créé en moi lorsque j’ai découvert les parfums Miller Harris aujourd’hui. Un sentiment assez proche de celui que j’avais éprouvé en découvrant Creed, un mélange de ravissement puéril et d’ennui profond. C’est beau, c’est chic, c’est frais, mais tellement lisse… J’ai appris à apprécier les parfums Creed depuis la première fois, peut-être en sera-t-il de même pour ceux de Miller Harris, mais disons que pour le moment il n’y a pas eu de déclic. Jolies fleurs, beaux bois, pétillants agrumes. Mais jamais de surdose, de maniement périlleux ou de taches de couleurs. Alors on fait vite le tour, et on part voir ailleurs si l’herbe n’est pas plus verte.

Enfin, enfin, il faut tout de même saluer la qualité lorsqu’elle est là, l’exécution de ces parfums est tout à fait maîtrisée et les matières choisies offrent une belle profondeur aux fragrances. Notamment chez Cuir d’Oranger, le seul que j’ai essayé sur ma peau. Mon affection pour les cuirés s’est confirmée avec cette senteur à la fois joviale et brute. Le mariage fleurs d’oranger et cuir (bouleau-ciste) offre un contraste sec-moelleux intéressant sur la peau, sans que jamais le cuir ne devienne trop sec. Le chic et la préciosité anglaise émanent de ce parfum qui me laisse l’idée de quelque chose de classique et traditionnel. Il est d’ailleurs présenté ainsi sur le site de Miller Harris. Il fait partie de la dernière collection créée par Lyn Harris : Nouvelle Edition, qui comprend 8 parfums, que l’on peut désormais sentir au Bon Marché.

Je vais sûrement devoir recommencer, réessayer parce que je pense que ces créations ont encore des ressources, et que parfois en parfum, la première impression n’est pas toujours la bonne.Vous ne croyez pas?
