So I will be blogging soon about the fashion side of design that I love so much, more specifically my fashion icons. I recently heard (about 15 minutes ago) about a website that sells leather pouch necklaces. I discovered the site via a Tweet by Samantha Ronson. Apparently people have been asking where she got hers. The necklaces are called Blesslev and the artist is Jacquie Aiche. There is an inexpensive pouch necklace, only  $36, that is within my budget. I just may buy it.

The font really speaks to the spirituality of the jewelry. The jewelry from her other site, the second link, is even more beautiful. My favorite are the jewelry made from rocks and minerals. They took my breath away. What of love most about these is the connections to nature, the ground, the earth. I love the colors and the textures found through her designs.

Warga Bandung digemparkan dengan kehadiran air mineral ‘Manohara’ beberapa hari terakhir. Kabar yang beredar menyebutkan air tersebut mampu menyembuhkan berbagai macam penyakit.

Warga Bandung kini sedang memburu sejumlah agen air mineral di kota tersebut dengan harapan memperoleh air Manohara. ”Susah mendapatkan air itu karena penjualan masih terbatas. Kami terpaksa harus pesan terlebih dulu,” kata Dedi satu warga kota Bandung, Jumat (18/12).

Wadirman (39), warga Padasuka, Bandung, mengungkapkan, dirinya mencoba meminum air Manohara dua hari lalu saat temannya memberi dua botol air tersebut. “Setelah di konsumsi, ternyata air itu berbeda dengan air lain, dan dirasakan mampu menghilangkan rasa pegal di tubuh,” ujarnya.

Ternyata, untuk konsumsi air Manohara selanjutnya, sulit mendapatkannya. ”Pokoknya, air Manohara kini banyak dicari warga untuk diminum karena memiliki kelebihan,” katanya.

Keterangan yang diperoleh, air mineral Manohara berasal dari Malaysia dan sudah dipasarkan di kota Bandung beberapa bulan ini. Air berbotol hijau itu memiliki nilai jual yang cukup beda dengan air mineral lainnya yang ada di Indonesia.

Distributor tunggal air Manohara di Bandung, Rudi Hendriawan menjelaskan air mineral Manohara itu dikelola pabrik di Malaysia. Hanya, lanjut dia, warga Bandung menyebutnya air Manohara, karena asal negara produksi air itu dari Malaysia. ”Kami kaget saat mereka datang ke kantor untuk menanyakan air Manohara,” tegasnya.

In my younger years I never would have thought I would be a supporter of having less stuff.  I was a shop-aholic, and loved buying a new pair of shoes as much as the next girl.  But as I aged going shopping only made me feel guilty, instead of giving me that temporary high that I used to get back in the day.  My perspective and values had changed.

In my quest to be a more responsible consumer on a budget, I downsized my stuff, avoid advertising, and try to only purchase things I need and can’t make myself or get used.  I also am conscious of which companies test on animals.  And hey, what’s in this stuff anyway? Where does it come from and who is making it and how? 

Getting answers to all of these questions sure does narrow down the options for me.  Of course, I still like nice things and occasionally splurge when I can.  Oftentimes I hunt for those special things on Etsy.  It’s amazing what you can find, and here are some of my faves.

There are a gazillion soap makers on Etsy, but I have found a handful that I like and most are vegan.  Mad Hatter Soap Co. is currently closed for the holidays, but they have some amazing scents.  Wanderlust is my favorite so far (coincidence? I think not!) And it makes your bathroom smell divine.  They also have a sampler you can buy to see which scents you want to get full bars of.  I have also tried this body whip, which I have a hard time not eating. Other soap shops I hope to try are Dress Green, Virtue Natural (hey, Sosae!), Farmstead Organics,  and Long Winter Farm.

Now that you are squeaky clean and smelling good, time to pretty up!  Just because we want to go green doesn’t mean we can’t look good while doing it.  Finding natural, cruelty-free soap is a piece of cake compared to finding natural, cruelty-free mascara!  Even in the corporate world, it’s usually either one or the other.  Big name mascaras I’ve tried are Urban Decay and Beauty Without Cruelty.  These were good quality, but not without a price.   So, I did a search on Etsy, and discovered a couple of  potentials.  I just purchased this mascara from SoBeBotanicals.  Natural, check. Cruelty-free, check.  And at nearly half of what I was paying for the big name stuff, I had to try it.  It should be arriving this week and I can’t wait!  Lex is a pleasure to talk to, and she makes other amazing stuff like vegan deodorant and  mineral makeup.  I also found this mascara from Erzulie Cosmetics.  Other goodies to try here are mineral makeup and natural skin care.  On my Erzulie wish list is the temple balm, as I get terrible headaches.  Also on the mascara watch is this vegan version from The All Natural Face.  Great price and vegan? I’m in heaven!

In addition to your grill (or grill selections, if you're like me) there are many accessories for sale in the amateur barbecue. Some items are essential, some items are nice to have, and other elements are made to be sold. This is my list of these products and, in my opinion, belong in this list.

Knives, forks and tongs

A good knife is good, for a variety of reasons, but for the grid, is not just a necessity. I hope that allThe preparation has been done when you have done on the grill. The fork is a cuisine more at your fingertips. It 'very useful to help deal with a long range in the rotation, displacement and placement of food on the grill. However, you do not want to save your food. Every time you add fork in the food sector, create holes can escape the humidity.

A better solution is to be a tong long over. Make sure a heavy duty steel must be stored, must beBlocking and non-stick pad to the end. A good option is to buy a set of pliers that have an insulated handle to protect hands from the heat of the grill.

A set of pliers is essential for food on the grill, turning as chefs, travel to the demand and the elimination of hot meals, when you're done. Make another set of pliers on the embers and pieces of wood to use. I remember that you will create an isolated casehandle.

Spatula

If you cook burgers, chops, skewers of fish, it is not possible without a quality spatula. I can not overstate the importance of the track here. You want a spatula, which is well balanced and, at least long enough to reach the deepest part of the grill cooktops deeper. Measure the distance between the front grill to the point of a corner deeper back diagonally. Now, add 6 inches to this measurement to get your hands on the grill fire. IfThey measure a ride and you can grill all sides of the grid, simply measure the distance between the edge of the grid in the center and add access 6-8 cm long, to this extent.

Impian petani dan pendukung kaum tani di dalam melepaskan diri dari jeratan teknologi kapitalis tampak akan terpenuhi dengan mulai maraknya praktik pertanian dengan input produksi organik.

Di tengah optimisme dan semangat mewujudkan impian tersebut, kekhawatran muncul bahwa mimpi tersebut akan tetap menjadi mimpi ketika terlalu besar harapan, yang kemudian memunculkan mitos.

Tanpa perhatian yang penuh, mitos ini akan menisbikan program bantuan pemerintah kepada petani, khususnya ketika pasar tidak melihat upaya ini sesuatu yang pantas mendapat premi.

Departemen Pertanian Amerika Serikat pada 1977 mendefinisikan pertanian organik sebagai sebuah sistem manajemen produksi berbasis agroekologi yang memacu dan mendorong keanekaragaman hayati, siklus biologi, dan aktivitas biologi tanah.

Praktiknya adalah penggunaan input luar-lahan minimal dan upaya memperkaya, mempertahankan, serta meningkatkan keharmonisan ekologi. Menurut Organisasi Pangan Dunia (FAO), tujuan utamanya adalah mengoptimalkan kesehatan dan produktivitas dari komunitas yang saling berketergantungan antara kehidupan dalam tanah, hewan, dan manusia.

Klaim atau doktrin yang banyak dianut oleh pelaku paham pertanian organik adalah bahwa organik lebih sehat daripada input kimia seolah ingin memanfaatkan momentum prevalensi pasar yang menuntut bahan makanan yang tidak mengandung unsur-unsur pemicu penyakit serius.

Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir pikiran konsumen secara sukarela dibawa oleh doktrin tersebut walaupun ada banyak kejanggalan dalam logika berpikir para penganut aliran pertanian organik.

Bukti sukses

Sebuah penelitian jangka panjang di Universitas Cornell memberikan gambaran menakjubkan tentang hasil pengamatan selama 22 tahun. Dibuktikan bahwa secara keseluruhan produksi jagung dan kedelai dari perlakuan pertanian organik relatif sama dengan pertanian konvensional yang menggunakan pupuk kimia buatan.

Keuntungannya adalah bahwa pertanian organik menghemat konsumsi energi (bahan bakar minyak) sebesar 30 persen, menahan air lebih lama di musim kering dan tidak memerlukan pestisida. Namun, hasil yang diperoleh pada empat tahun pertama produksinya 33 persen lebih rendah daripada perlakuan konvensional.

Setelah bahan organik terkumpul di dalam tanah, sejak tahun kelima produksinya mulai sama atau lebih tinggi daripada konvensional, terutama karena lebih tahan selama musim kering.

Dilaporkan pula bahwa pertanian organik mampu menyerap dan menahan karbon ( C ) sehingga sangat bermanfaat dalam mitigasi pemanasan global. Kandungan bahan organik tanah naik 15-28 persen yang setara dengan 1.500 kilogram CO2 dari udara.

Walaupun biaya produksi pada sistem pertanian organik 15 persen lebih tinggi daripada konvensional, dengan harga yang cukup baik pada tanaman sereal kenaikan ini tidak terlalu menjadi masalah. Sebaliknya, sistem pertanian organik tidak mampu memberikan keuntungan untuk tanaman anggur, apel, ceri, dan umbi-umbian.

Beberapa keberhasilan sejenis juga dilaporkan di Afrika, India, dan China. Namun, hasil-hasil tersebut masih menimbulkan pro dan kontra, terutama dari para ahli ilmu tanah yang tidak bisa menerima alasan bahwa hal tersebut semata-mata akibat organik versus kimia.

Mitos pertanian organik

Keberhasilan input organik dengan menggeser peran input kimia sebagai sebuah monumen inovasi dari Revolusi Hijau 60 tahun yang lalu semula dipandang sebelah mata oleh para ilmuwan ilmu tanah yang memahami dengan baik hubungan tanah dengan tanaman.

Namun, ketika gejala yang berkembang, khususnya di Amerika Serikat, makin mengkhawatirkan, beberaa pendapat mulai bermunculan. Salah satunya adalah yang diuraikan oleh Throckmorton (2007), seorang dekan dari Kansas Sate College.

Keberatannya terhadap doktrin pertanian organik adalah bahwa tidak mungkin peran pupuk kimia digantikan sepenuhnya oleh pupuk organik. Pertama, jika hal itu mungkin, dunia akan kekurangan biomassa untuk produksi pupuk organik karena dosisnya luar biasa besar.

Kedua, tanaman tidak hanya ditentukan oleh humus saja, tetapi oleh faktor-faktor lain seperti bahan organik aktif, nutrisi mineral tersedia, aktivitas mikroba tanah, aktivitas kimia dalam larutan tanah, dan kondisi fisik tanah.

Bahan organik tanah memang sering disebut sebagai “nyawa dari tanah” sebagai ekspresi dari perannya mendukung aktivitas mikroba tanah. Peran lain dari bahan ini memang diakui penting, tetapi bukan satu-satunya dalam pelarutan hara, pembenah tanah, dan kapasitas menahan air.

Fakta lain adalah bahwa bahan organik mengandung nutrisi tanaman sangat kecil. Klaim bahwa nutrisi asal bahan organik (kompos, pupuk organik) lebih “alami” dibandingkan asal pupuk kimia sangat tidak masuk akal, apalagi dihubungkan dengan kesehatan manusia.

Bukti empiris menunjukkan bahwa pada tanah organik (kadar bahan organik sangat tinggi) percobaan gandum, kentang, dan kubis di Amerika Serikat pada yang dipupuk kimia buatan mencapai 5 – 54 kali lebih besar daripada yang tidak dipupuk kimia. Satu bukti lain bahwa organik bukan satu-satunya unsur utama dalam produksi tanaman adalah sistem hidroponik.

Kebijakan pemerintah, seperti Go Organic 2010, penerbitan SNI Sistem Pangan organik (01-6729-2002), dan subsidi pupuk organik merupakan langkah-langkah kongkret yang perlu diawasi implementasinya. Di samping itu, pertimbangan yang mendalam perlu dilakukan dengan memerhatikan dampak krisis keuangan 2008.

Daya beli masyarakat menurun, seperti yang dilaporkan di Inggeris, berdampak stagnasi pada pertumbuhan produk pertanian organik pada tingkat 2 persen. Konsumen yang mengutamakan rupa daripada rasa juga tidak mudah berubah ke produk organik.

Di sisi lain, kemampuan produksi input organik untuk menopang produktivitas pangan yang dibutuhkan jauh dari memadai akibat keterbatasan dan terpencarnya bahan baku. Untuk itu, mitos-mitos yang terkait dengan produk organik harus dihapus dan diberikan pemahaman yang benar kepada petani.

Kombinasi optimal antara input anorganik dan organik akan mampu memenuhi persyaratanberbagai pihak, baik teknis, ekonomi, lingkungan, maupun kesehatan konsumen.
