So I made the decision to use rhino and make the Miniature Holding Tool out of plastic. After I build it in Rhino I will use the Rapid Prototype machine to create it. I chose this method and material because it will come out exactly the way I want it to. Strong, long lasting material, sleek, interesting to hold/interact with and a good color. This Miniature Holding Tool will last forever and have a home in a bag, car, home, storage space, or anywhere so the chose to make it plastic is sustainable because it will last forever and never go to waste.

Before I actually create it, I wanted to do a test with a different object I built using the Rhino software. The results were very pleasing and I am confident to move forward from here.

Here are images of the rendered model “BreakBot Light” before the final touches were added to send to the Rapid Prototype machine and created. I learned a lot from this test!

Experiment 1

In this experiment I focused on volume. I used a small card board square that might be the size of my design. I stuffed fabric into it as an example of what the use of my small container could be for (scrap container for a person working with fabric and clothing to dump their tiny scrap pieces into). There were 6 strands of fabric - 44 inches wide by 6 inches tall all folded up to the max of the container.

This experiment showed me what this size of a container could hold in terms of fabric.

This experiment also touched a little on thinking about the opening for the Miniature Holding Tool as being on the top.
