We just celebrated Christmas a few days early this year due to a traveling situation. My 11 year-old daughter got the Bistro model in Mint. She was THRILLED to see it under the tree, and has been riding all afternoon. Her younger brother is already requesting one for his birthday! I purchased my daughter’s scooter here at Amazon back on Thanksgiving weekend, and only paid $[...]. Definitely an incredible price! I’m a single mom and was kind of dreading unpacking the box and putting it together, but it was all relatively simple. My only beef was with the directions for attaching the handlebars in the owner’s manual. The manual omits a few important steps, is vague at best with poor diagrams, and can lead to a lot of frustration. Do yourself a huge favor and go to [...] and search for the directions for attaching the handlebars. I’m betting it’s a common question, and the instructions are A LOT clearer on the site. I was able to complete that part of the installation within two minutes after reading the website’s directions and viewing the diagram.

This is a scooter kids will absolutely love, with a great price for parents!

Very Pleased with this Scooter! – J. Manchester – North Carolina, United States
We just bought this for our 11-year old. We were a little worried getting a scooter this size, because she is so tall (5′ 4″.) But after we read the reviews, we thought we’d give this a try. We’re really glad we did. It was easy to assemble and charge and it works great. We all have fun riding around our neighborhood on it. And it’s VERY quiet, too. The size is not a problem at all. We feel it was a good value for the money.
Razor Hot Mod electric scooter – J. Lepley – Lawton, MI
We bought 2 of these for our 8 & 10 year old daughters. The they are a perfect size, well built and the girls love them. They came (from Amazon) very well packed, arrived quickly, and were very simple to final assemble. Being mechanically & electrically minded, I am very impressed at the sturdiness and overall high quality of these scooters. It looks as though they will last a long time.

Well I received 2 boxes of Perry’s War of the Roses miniatures, along with Foundry’s Med

Well I received 2 boxes of Perry’s War of the Roses miniatures, along with Foundry’s Medieval rule book. So as I now need to do some research on the subject to help build my army, and decide which faction to paint them as, I thought I’d add links to websites, book lists and companies where you can purchase minis from.

Information sites

First port of call is Wikipedia, this will give you a general overview of the period and get you started on the subject. click here

War of the Roses.com, is a great site which includes timelines for both Royalty and battles. It includes information on the major players of the period as well descriptions of the battles.

Re-enactors at Bosworth

www.wars-of-the-roses.com is an excellent resource, which includes some info on the soldiers and warfare of the period, though this is a more basic introduction to the topic.

Battlefields Trust contains a wealth of information on the various battles fought during the conflict, this site is well worth visiting.

War of the Roses

Bosworth Battlefield Trust are the organisation that looks after the site of the battlefield. On the website a wealth of information is included about the battle and archaeology.

Bosworth Battle

War of the Roses Federation is a great source of images that show the clothing, weapons and military in action. They are a group of 30+ groups who regularly carry out displays and re-enactments.

Miniature Companies.

The first company to take a look at is Perry Miniatures, these guys produce great sculpts and they’ve just released a set in plastic, 40 infantry troops for £15.

Crusader Miniatures produce a very nice range of minis. I needed a bombard for my army so I purchased the 100 years war bombard from Crusader. They are very nicely sculpted with great detail, well worth checking out and at a reasonable price to boot.

Archers

Old Glory produce a great set of revolting peasants in 25/28mm, excellent for games in and around the Peasants Revolt or as peasant infantry for War of the Roses. They also do a range of 10mm miniatures for those gamers whom prefer the smaller range and bigger armies to command.

Foundry Miniatures produce a rule book and a range of miniatures. I will be including a review of the war game rule book at a later date once I read, digested and played a few games.

Knight

Recommended Books

The Wars of the Roses by J.R Lander; The dynastic struggles of the Wars of the Roses (1455-85) have traditionally been portrayed as belonging to one of the most dramatic periods in the history of England, an age of murder and melodrama. In this classic history of the wars, charting their origins, progress, conclusions and effects, Professor Lander sets the record straight. By putting the wars into their contemporary context, using the written records of the time (many of which are reproduced in the text) and the results of modern research and scholarship, the true picture emerges. The wars were, in fact, very limited. While not denying that contemporary English society was disorderly and violent, Lander suggests that this state of affairs was due far less to civil war than to habits of violence among all classes of society. Fluently and clearly written “The Wars of the Roses” is the perfect overview of one of the most famous of medieval conflicts. Shedding light, as it does, on fifteenth-century history as a whole, the roots of the Tudor dynasty, and the background to Shakespeare’s history plays, this book deserves a place on the bookshelf of anyone interested in this most turbulent period.

Brief History of the Wars of the Roses by Desmond Seward; This is a classic account of the bloody rivalry between the dynasties of York and Lancaster for the throne of England. During the fifteenth century England was split in a bloody conflict between the Houses of York and Lancaster over who should claim the crown. The civil wars consumed the whole nation in a series of battles that eventually saw the Tudor dynasty take power. In “A Brief History of the Wars of the Roses”, Desmond Seward tells the story of this complex and dangerous period of history through the lives of five men and women who experienced the conflict first hand. In a gripping narrative the personal trials of the principal characters interweave with the major events and personalities of one of the most significant turning points in British history.

So i have heard about this thing some people call yarn storming,or yarn graffiti, and i am officially joining the club.

I live in a small neighborhood somewhere outside Renton, washington and i am going to “yarn storm”

so for people who don’t know what yarn graffiti is, it’s where you knit things out of yarn scraps and such, then wrap it around poles, on trees, benches, basically anything that can be wrapped, covered or knitted upon.

I was looking at this group called Knit The City.

Personally, i think they’re amazing.

So i am planning on doing my first knitting run tomorrow. Yes, Christmas Day!

I was thinking Christmas themed paraphernalia.Any ideas? Comment

I was planning a miniature snowman brigade?

good?

I think so. So, I shall post pictures for all of my knitting enthusiast friends.

Although, after this post i am quite unsure of how many people are viewing this. I feel like I am typing away to no one.

OoO I definitely found a picture for all you visual-knitter-people!

Snowmen bowling, but i like this as my brigade

Should i add carrot noses?

Or small sweaters?

I am not entirely sure, so give me some feed back you avid knitters!

Oh, they’re just so cute, and small, i love small things! I recently discovered a website (click website)

They have a bunch of small things and patterns on there, not going to lie, they’re quite addictive!

Hmm, i am pretty much thinking i should start knitting now, ever think you’re a cat lady? Even when you don’t have cats? I do. I am feeling it particularly today, especially when i talked to my pug and fitted him for a sweater. Oh my,

Knit on lovelies!

DOUBLE CLICK IMAGES FOR LARGER VERSIONS

By applying fake focus in photoshop, it gives the appearance of being miniature. This works best with photos taken from a higher vantage point than the subject. If you have any photos that are taken from atop a building or some other elevated point, send them to mlindberg1@mac.com and I will be happy to try this technique on your photo.

And instead of staying in the apartment which he bought for us he choose to stay at the Hilton instead. Well, I wont blame him – the apartment looks for shit now! Mostly because of two big dobbermanns. Any ways, we decided to have dinner at the hotel. After insisting for a while we finally got ourselves a table (even though we had not reserved one). The waiter led us to our table which happened to be just beside Amanda Jensen and her company of two. Now, Im really not the starstruck kind of person but my father always like to make up silly games and after a while the topic of discussion at our table was Swedish Idol and the Swedish music industry in general, of course. And now something weird happened – what ever name of a Swedish musician/artist I tried to say the only thing which came out of my mouth was “Amanda”.

My father: “You know that girl who came third this year…”
Me: “Amanda Tove”

And on it went until even I started feeling a little embaressed. I mean, she must have heard me!’

-Amanda!
-Amanda!!

-AMANDA!!!

Swiftly I ate my chicken, drank my wine and order some Cognac.
My father had another glass of wine and my brother poured up another Guinness.
We all got a bit drunk and it all turned into a laughing matter.

“Amanda” and her company left their table and hobbled away.

I laughed. We laughed.

Ps. The picture above is taken from the Hilton elevator which overlooks “Tringeln” and The Walking Street.

An artist currently living and working in Melbourne creating hyper-realistic sculptures out of silicon, Sam Jinks is a commercial sculptor for slightly more than a decade. He uses backgrounds with film&tv effects. As he states in the interview he sculpts extremely realistic artifice and he began his carrier by sculpting puppets for tv shows initially, then came up working with real-life models. Personal thought, his work is equilateral with those paintings of Alyssa Monks in the arena of perfect realism.

I cant give the real huge one so i decided to yes buy this in bulk at chinatown. This can be displayed. I love this thing in my home too. It makes me think I went back to some Chinese history w/c I found so relaxing. As an avid fan of “once upon in China” and “jet li” I found tea pot set as one of the appropriate gift this Christmas. Useful and so fancy.

the design & color I chose .. its fancy and i love it!

This will be wrapped in few minutes and Im so excited to give a dozen of them to different people I love. I just hope the oriental theme i got for them will be appreciated.

i love this miniature or not. well my tea & coffee vice will sure extend!

When we went to the store, we weren’t looking to get little Jeremyna a motorcycle, and thanks to this, we still don’t have to worry. The little scooter does move quickly, but the uphill for her kind of taxes the motor and drive train. She is on the edge of 150 pounds, so that might have something to do with it! She has to Fred Flintstone it up a hill.

But it is so quiet, especially when she is jabbering on about Hannah Montana and the like. Oh, that Jeremyna! She hooked up a little Red Ryder to it, and she pulls around her little pet Maia wherever she goes! That fast little Jeremyna!

I suggest that you go with a bright orange flag and if you are like our Jeremyna, a sturdy set of elbow and kneepads. Because our little one is a little accident prone. Clumsy little Jeremyna!

Razor makes a sturdy product, and it is great for the sidewalk (at low speeds) and unbusy roads. No stunt driving for this little rascal, though. It can’t handle the ramps. (reckless Jeremyna)

Well its that time of year, snow is falling, its cold and you suddenly want to make winter bases for your pending army. Well I decided to trawl the net looking for some of the best tutorials on painting winter bases, dioramas, NMM painting and camoflague.

1. First up is an excellent tutorial on painting winter armour by misterfinn over on Brushthralls. This technique can be used on WW2, Great War and modern armour, as well as sci-fi. Here misterfinn is painting a warjack from Privateer Press.

War Jack in Winter Camoflague

2. This snow base is a very simple and effective solution by the painting dude. This technique could be used on a wide variety of base sizes including diorama.

3. Terry Peterson on Dysartes.com has a very simple and quick winter basing tutorial, which looks very effective.

Creating Sustainable Ideas

By Janit Calvo
December 16, 2009

It’s the people that you meet, when you’re sending out your tweets!

If you are one of the millions of people that has become addicted to tweeting, you know that what happens on Twitter, doesn’t stay on Twitter.

Although, I’m not sure how it started but I think it was a post by Twitter buddy, @Clonehenge, that did it. Now, how I got connected to @Clonehenge is an interesting story too, but for today, let’s just focus on the miniature yurts.

Huh?

Yep. Miniature yurts made of home-spun wool, measuring one inch tall by one and a half inches wide. Now you know why it caught my eye. How cute would a miniature yurt look in the right kind of mini garden?

You see, they are the brainchild of Kate Pokorny of New Hampshire. Kate is out to prove that a life-sized wool yurt can be viable, sustainable, biodegradable and portable option for a house – among other things.

Now, that’s a lot of wool.

And, that’s exactly what’s going on here.

Kate has a plan to “crochet a functional yurt out of a continuous strand of felted wool to create a beautiful, self supporting housing structure.”

Reading further into this bizarre idea, it made sense: wool is a renewable and biodegradable resource. The crochet stitch is strong and reliable. The yurt is a durable structure that has proved itself already as a self-supporting housing structure. Blend these three concepts together and you have a portable house for the homeless.

I love it.

And Kate needs our help.

And we need her miniature yurts!!

Kate is keeping it real. She’s using local wool from the “friendly flocks” in New Hampshire, and with help from a nearby mill, the fleece will be cleaned and prepped for felting. This is where the donations are needed, to help fund the processing and hand cleaning of the wool, so Kate can hand-felt and crochet the life-sized prototype.

Kate has set up a website with a ton of information on how she got inspired, her research on yurts and a blog of her experience in setting up this idea. (And, you have to see the gigantic doily being tatted too! Very fun!)

Now, what about the miniature yurts, you ask?

It’s the way Kate has set up her donation schedule. For as little as $10 you can get a miniature yurt and be a part of this wonderful project. And yes, you can donate more and less than that too – and there is a perk for every donation level – check it out at the link below.

And think of how cute the miniature yurt would look in your miniature garden.

Now, think of all the homeless people that could be wrapped in wool during the frigid winter months.

See Kate’s website here.

And her secure donation site through Kickstarter here.

6. Musketeer Miniatures, have several new miniatures available in time for xmas and beyond, first up

6. Musketeer Miniatures, have several new miniatures available in time for xmas and beyond, first up are the Brigand Characters for Inter War gaming (1920-1938), though these guys could always be used as partisans in a WW2 game. They’ve been primarily sculpted for the game, A Very British Civil War, but that shouldn’t stop you getting them for a pulp game or as partisans for a WW2 battle. These guys are very nicely sculpted and full of character. I especially like the guy with the fur shoulders, he could quite happily be a leader of bandits, mercenaries or partisans.

Another range that musketeer produces are the dark ages, these are really lovely miniatures. I myself recently bought some of the range for a small dark age skirmish, which will become an article for Irregular Magazine issue 4. New for this range are the Goths, on the website is a photo of some of these guys painted, they look really great. Just the chaps to make the late Roman army tremble with fear.

7. Brutal is a new game by Klaus Teschner of Dark Art Miniatures.

“Brutal is a stand-alone board game that allows you to pit fighters against one another in an up close and personal combat system set in a post apocalyptic world. The system is primarily a duelling system although any amount of players can take part which makes it great for tournament play.”(Brutal Core Rules)

This looks like an interesting game, though it does seem at first to be very stat heavy, there are quite a few rules to get your head round, but once you’ve played a few games you soon start to pick things up. There are also a range of specially designed miniatures available from Dark Arts, which are very dark and menacing looking, ideal to fight and die in the brutal arena. The rules are currently available as free download from the Brutal website (click here).

It’s worth a look and the minis would look great as part of a Sci-fi army.

8. Osprey currently have on pre-order Lost Scrolls, a new supplement for Fields of Glory. This is the 13th and final companion for FOG, and this edition contains some of the armies requested by the FOG community. It also contains a mini theme campaign for Etruscans, Samnites, Horatius at the bridge and all the armies and enemies of the early Roman Republic. Expect the same standard of quality you’ve seen in previous FOG books, with lavish illustrations and high quality detailed information. This will be on my new year wish list as well.

9. Victrix have recently released British Peninsular Infantry Flank Companies in 54mm scale. I like these a lot, not to game with but to paint, for £20 you get 16 multi part 1/32 or 54mm scale models, that can be converted quite easily. I’m not saying you can’t game with these guys because you can, though for myself, I would prefer to game with the 28mm versions, but as a model to paint, then these guys are great.

10. Empress miniatures produce a range of minis for the Zulu Wars, Spanish Civil war and Abyssinia. They produce some of if not the nicest sculpts of late Victorian colonial British, along with some very fine Zulu warriors. This is a very nice range, with a wide variety of troop choices for both the British and Zulu armies. There are also some free rule sets on the site, one of which has been designed to play A Very British Civil War with, entitled ‘And Was Jerusalem Builded Here?’ .

I co-edit and design the layout for an on-line magazine called Irregular Magazine and I’ve finally decided to write a short piece about the mag here on this blog. The magazine cover all genres of gaming and during 2010 each issue will have a theme. The first theme of the year is the Undead, we have a fantastic cover by Ricardo Guimaraes. Each magazine has sections dedicated to RPG, Wargaming, Painting Tutorials and hobby community articles, along with great artwork throughout. The aim of the magazine was to produce a modern version of an old retro RPG/gaming magazine that is multi system and not ridigdly dedicated to one in particular. Another feature of the magazine is that it doesn’t carry any advertising, though the magazine does have a review section.

Cover Art for Issue 3 of Irregular Magazine.

About

Irregular Magazine is a free PDF download full of hobby articles, tutorials, reviews and short stories.

Brought to you by hobbyists turned editors Jason Hubbard and Nick Johnson, Irregular Magazine has been designed to provide hobbyists with articles and tutorials on miniature painting, RPG and wargames.

All content is community generated, including the art-work, creating a very unique magazine, not specific to any one aspect of the hobby, or tied down to a particular game or manufacturer. Hopefully it will reflect the diversity of the hobby community.

Issues will appear every quarter, and back issues will remain online – so don’t worry if you lose your copy.

The magazine is FREE and is also advertisement free; this project makes absolutely no money – and we’re ok with that.

We recommend you print off only the pages you really need – this way you don’t have piles of paper cluttering up your space and it helps the environment.

Make use of the web enabled features to link directly from the magazine to sites of interest, or from the contents page to the article you want to read.

Good things come in small packages.

By Janit Calvo

December 11, 2009

Oh dear. It’s that time of year again.

The pressure is on to do the impossible. You need to find a unique gift for that special someone. It’s got to be personable. It’s got to be heart-felt. And it’s got to inexpensive.

What can you do that is special that won’t cost an arm and a leg?

Did you know that you can make a one-of-a-kind gift quickly, easily, inexpensively and have fun doing it too? Did you know that you can even get the kids to make it with you if you want?

Miniature gardening is a very adaptable idea. I’ve mentioned before that it can be 4 inches wide, or it can be 40 feet wide. It’s the 4” wide gardens that can really hit home with that special someone this holiday season – or 6” or 10” wide…

Mini gardening is an idea can suit any personality. You can make just about any theme in a small pot with a few chosen plants and miniature accessories. Instead of spending money, why not spend a little time instead?

Here are some ideas for miniature gardens with “personality:”

For the “Foodie”
Choose a pot big enough for a decent sized patio, at least 12” across. Plant ½ of the pot with the mini garden and create a miniature patio in the other half. With our exclusive Mini Patio Mix, you can customize a rigid, durable patio right in the container. Furnish the patio with a BBQ grill, table and chairs and perhaps a couple of planters to make it cozy. Dinner is served…

For the Golfer
This one is easy. Use Irish Moss (Sagina subulata) for the grass. The pot can be as small as 4” or as large as 8” or more. Make a flag with a skewer, glue and fabric – coat the glue on a small swatch of white cotton fabric with the glue and dry it flat on a piece wax paper. When dry, cut out the triangle and wrap the base of the triangle around the to end of the skewer. Place the flag on top of the mound of moss. Fore!

The one that hates winter weather!
Find small, indoor plant starts at Fred Meyers or your local nursery. Think young palms, small leafy succulents or young Aloe Vera for a grassy look. This pot can be 8” across, or 24” across, depending upon how much time you have. Find the miniature ponds or pools in our online store for a “water feature.” Use the rolled marble pebbles for a quick and easy mini patio. Find little monkeys and lizards at your local toy store or Michael’s crafts. Warm yet?

With a little bit of time, a few small touches – literately – you can really make a personalized gift that enchants for months, or even years!

Typical, no posts for ages and then two turn up at once…
Rather than separate them though, I’ve bundled them together because they both have to do with expressions of thanks.

First off I just have to make a general expression of gratitude to Games Workshop for their modern range of paints. Not only is there now an extensive number of colours to choose from that allow several passes of highlighting direct from the pot, but the consistency of the paint is finally what it should have been all along. No more do we have to suffer the repeated frustration of painting on Rotting Flesh that has the coverage properties of translucent dishwater or prising out lumps of petrified Enchanted Blue. Well done GW, you’ve finally got a range of paints to be proud of.

The other big and specific thank you goes out to Chris and James at the GW store in Bournemouth. I was in the town last week with a couple of hours to kill, so I sought out the store. Being a Saturday it was busy, plus they were having their Xmas party early so the shop was teeming with enthusiastic young painters and gamers. Despite this however, Chris was good (and patient) enough to spent a large amount of time with me running through my first fantasy battle. It was touch and go with my Goblins for some time, not aided one bit by a perpetually stupid troll, but eventually they overran the Dwarves. It was all good fun and Chris was happy because I left the store with a bagful of goodies comprising of a new rulebook, an army companion guide and a complete Wood Elf battalion.
