Created in the summer of 2009, Studio Lotus may have had a slow start (because we are human, honestly!) but as Autumn literally falls all around us, you can be sure the message is getting out there. 1) WHY pay too much for photography for your personal and business needs?

2) WHY be forced to buy prints/gifts ONLY via said photographers and again, pay those ridiculous prices?

At Studio Lotus Photography, we think photography is ridiculously expensive and while we arent about to give it away for free (we do have bills to pay, like anyone!) we feel we can offer you a much more affordable experience without slacking on the high quality.

We believe that when you have your photos taken you should get ALL of your images, on CD as well as a Copyright release so you can do just about anything you like with those fantastic photos. We do not OWN your memories or creative endeavors. We merely own the credit for having taken them and hope you will pass our names on to your friends, providing we’ve given you an excellent experience.

We believe in giving you options, not set in stone packages. And in making sure your needs are met, not just ours.

This landed on my spam folder this morning. I actually had to double check, because this one is actually polished style-wise: header, theme, language, grammar. Two things stood out: the wrong mailto address (blurred to protect the innocent) and the funky from address. SpamAssassin: thanks!

Back in July, I was lamenting that I missed Atlassian’s Stimulus Package. It’s back (thanks Brian!) and with a vengeance: their Starter “program” provides $10 licenses for full blown Atlassian awesomeness (JIRA, Confluence, Crowd, Bamboo, FishEye and GreenHopper), and you can also purchase support. Additionally, JIRA 4 is out.

Dziś moja panna pokazała mi co z piaskiem robi artystka wymieniona w tytule tego wpisu. Dla przykładu – historia życia w jej wykonaniu.

Ostatnio w domu zapanowała moda na częstsze korzystanie z zamrażarki. Moja panna cały wieczór majstrowała pyszne zdrowe domowe pizze do pocięcia i zamrożenia. Okazały się bardzo przydatne. Chcąc coś szybko zjeść nie trzeba było posilać się chemicznymi zupkami i tym podobnymi – pomysł kapitalny.

Poza 4 widocznymi na zdjęciu jeszcze jedna leżała sobie obok.

Mój aktualny pomysł na choroby i rozgrzanie organizmu w zimowe dni, oczywiście obok niezastąpionych kanapek z czosnkiem.

Składniki:

• herbata czarna (zielona wychładza więc na zimę nie jest najlepsza)
• cukier
• cytryna
• herbata suszowa BioFix
• napar z imbiru (starty imbir zalewamy wrzątkiem w dzbanku i czekamy)
• syrop soku malinowego (w moim przypadku malinowo-żurawinowego)

Można wszystko dać zanim zagotuje się woda i rozbełtać. Po prawdzie to wrzuciłbym tam wszystko co wiadomo, że rozgrzewa. Osobiście do całości dodałem jeszcze łyżkę domowych przetworów winogronowo-jabłkowych.

I have no idea how I came across this (the whole concept sort of turned my brain to mush momentarily):Ars Technica reports on some global homely Windows launch party event where folks host Windows 7 launch parties at their house (I picked the Ars article because they’re a talented crew, but there are many more out there). Like Dave Rosenberg, I’m still not sure about the “reality measurement” associated with all this, particularly given the introductory hosting video (there are others for each of the related fun activities proposed for the party). In the spirit of full disclosure, having recently read Naomi Klein’s No Logo, being a Mac/Solaris/Linux user, and failing to understand the logic behind the Windows so-called interface (yep, I have tried Windows 7 on a virtual machine) my perception is admittedly probably biased. Yet I cannot fathom the thought of pimping Windows on my friends and acquaintances, much less in the setting depicted in the videos (“hey, to wrap up, let’s burn a music CD!”). Redmond strikes again, and words escape me to describe the concept and execution.

I’ve been a lite Dropbox user for some time (since I first read about them via Rands) and while I do use it more these days for more typical file sharing tasks, one of the most interesting uses I have for it has been that of sharing application state. Cloud and all, I am very much a desktop user, and while some of the applications I use do have cloudish counterparts, I find that have a tendency to enjoy my local apps far more than their cloud counterparts. Take ecto, a fantastic blog editor for the Mac. I find myself starting blog posts often, leaving them for “later” from time to time. Given I share time between my desktop and my laptop, it hasn’t always been easy to match available time slot with in-progress blogs.

Enter Dropbox: a simpe symlink from

~/Library/Application Support/ecto

to

../../DropBox/Shared/Library/Application Support/ecto3

and my wherever-whenever-ecto-blogging is a go (something that, by the way, did not work with iDisk, which seemingly failed to sync more ofthen than I was willing to accept). I suspect instant switching from one system to the other might probably confuse ecto, but I never do that anyway, and I can probably add some glue before the app starts to check on Dropbox’s status.

Trochę posprzątałem, wywaliłem stare zakładki z przeglądarki, sczyściłem listę gadu o jakieś 50% (w sumie listy z innych komunikatorów też tylko mniejsze czystki były). Co tam jeszcze, stare blogi poleciały, takie które wytrwały kilka miesięcy z moim marnym instynktem bloggera. Ot drobne porządki.

Dodatkowo małe czyszczenie przy grupach kontaktów w komunikatorze, wyłączenie wyświetlania opisów coby nie czytać bez sensu (jak mnie interesuje to sobie najadę i wyskoczy), coś co raz na jakiś czas zrobić trzeba.

Właśnie zdałem sobie sprawę, że odczuwam wyraźną niechęć do czytników kanałów RSS. W przeciwieństwie do niechęci wobec programów pocztowych ta ma trochę inne podłoże. Tych pocztowych nie lubię ponieważ nigdy nie działają tak jakbym chciał, co się zaś tyczy czytników RSS, prawdopodobnie chodzi o poczucie marnowania zasobów pamięci na coś czego potrzeby tak naprawdę nie odczuwam. Autentycznie – wolę sprawdzać ręcznie w przeglądarce niż puścić w ruch czytnik. To już mam chyba dwa rodzaje softu z którym się z tych czy innych powodów nie lubię.

This is a pretty interesting (nay, neat) concept: Jelly! Nothing on my neck of the woods. Yet.

I recently noticed that my system.log was collecting these messages fairly constatly.

It turns out the problem lies with Adobe’s license manager, and they provide a fix. All is well now.

I love companies (and the folks behind them) with a sense of humor. Case in point: Stanley’s FatMax Fubar II.

I can’t believe I missed it! Atlassian was selling, for a limited time, $5 5-user licenses for their products. Asides from the fact that I would probably buy them all just to have a stable of things available to play with, I could have really used Confluence and JIRA in one of the non-profits I work with (it falls, I think, under the commercial non-profit definition as it helps small, generally family-owned companies in Spain figure out things with exports, fairs, conventions, publications and such in a specific industry, even tho their budget is tiny tiny tiny, certainly not in line with current licensing prices).

As it stands today, I installed one of those cheap Compaq Presarios running OpenSolaris 2009.06 so they can have something that resembles a server. They’re embracing OpenOffice, and I’m working towards getting XWiki in a state where it’s usable for them, but I would very much prefer Confluence (not because XWiki doesn’t work but because I’m quite familair with Confluence and my support role is served much better by Confluence, which by the way, rocks).
