When i was little, i watched Mickey mouse shows just like everyone else. I read the comics about Donald Duck, watched the movies and cartoons… and as time went by… ‘i believe i can fly’… became… ‘they’re just using strings’… dragons weren’t real and despite a vivid imagination, your wishes don’t really come true… they are dreams after all…

I don’t have a strong educational background… i work in IT as deskside support, earning a simple income for my family…

dreams..? i don’t have any more dreams….

when i started planning for the trip to Japan early this year… it was more a logistical thing rather than planning for a family holiday… Tokyo Disneyland? just another theme park… big deal…

Then the music started.

Long forgotten images of buildings, colours and characters started coming to life as i walked into Disneyland… The language i was hearing was different of course… but the magic… it was there…

Then the parade started, floats infused with a blend of melodies long-buried in the smallest corner of my mind… all instantly recognisable…

Then i realised.

This was my dream. All my childhood life i had wanted to come to Disneyland.

And now i am here. In my dream. With the people i love most.

The food was pleasant… portions just right… and added a delight to the day… this was probably the only place in Tokyo that did not have vending machines! There were also many different carts selling different flavours of pop corn… This was pretty fun as we experimented with different types… Honey, Curry and Caramel…! The funny thing is… the chorus was mostly in Japanese… So was “One Man’s Dream II”… and when i listen to the English version.. somehow it doesn’t stir up the same nostalgia… i much prefer the Japanese version…

I’ll admit it.  I would never, in a month of Sundays, put Sadie on my daughter’s birth certificate.  It would be Sarah, thanks very much, just in case she grows up to run for office or take up brain surgery or otherwise wants to sound like a mature, serious adult.

I’m not necessarily in the majority.  And I’m not necessarily right, either.  Plenty of women named Julie and Jodie have turned out just fine.  And plenty of Sarah/Sadies are irritated at having to constantly explain that yes, Sadie is a nickname for Sarah.

So for your consideration, I’ve pulled together a list of ends-in-ie-names just might stand on their own.

I’m excluding choices like Katie and Maggie -  names easily connected to formal versions, as well as feminizations like Billie and Charlie.  And if it more commonly ends in -y, you won’t find it here – so no Mollie, Lillie or Lucie.

That still leaves bunches of names:

• Arlie – Arline started out as a well-born child kidnapped by gypsies in a nineteenth century opera, but today she’s the outdated Arlene.  Arlie might be a short form, or she may related to a surname.  Either way, she sounds fresher than the -een ending original.
• Birdie – Lady Bird was worn in the White House.  Actress Busy Phillips bestowed this avian appellation on her daughter.  While there are more subtle ways to evoke the finely feathered, Birdie isn’t quite unthinkable.
• Bonnie – Worn by the ill-fated daughter of Rhett and Scarlett in Gone With the Wind – who was actually named Eugenie Victoria.  She means pretty – and she is just that.
• Callie – If Kelly and Kaylee are independent given names for girls, why not Callie?  She’s also a possible nickname for classics like Caroline and Charlotte, as well as the less-expected Calla, Calista or Calliope.
• Dessie – In Ireland, Dessie is a nickname for Desmond – and thus, exclusively masculine.  In the US, it sounds more like a riff on Bessie.
• Dulcie – She’s sweet – literally, from the Latin dulcis.  Longer form Dulcinea conjures up the Judybats, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Don Quixote – though the literary Dulcinea was actually named Aldonza.
• Erie – Eir was a Norse goddess; Éire, a Celtic one – she lent her name to Ireland.  Eiry is a Welsh girl’s name – related names abound, all meaning snow.  Erie may be linked to any or none of the above, and could rhyme with fairy, or have a totally other pronunciation.
• Hattie – You might put Harriet or Henrietta on the birth certificate, but millinery references aside, Hattie has some style.
• Hettie – Another possibility for Henrietta,  as well as Hester or Hestia.
• Lettie – Formal name options include the salad-esque Lettice, or the lacy Letitia.  If Victorian valentine isn’t your style, Lettie might appeal.
• Lindie – Lucky Lindy was aviator Charles Lindbergh’s nickname.  The Lindy Hop was a swing-era dance craze named in his honor.  Linda is a Baby Boomer – as are elaborations like Melinda and Belinda.  But today, Lindie might work as a nickname for hippie chic tree name Linden – or on her own.
• Lottie – Charlotte is in the US Top 100 and rising, but it seems as very few Charlottes are answering to this nickname – so far.
• Maisie – Like Maggie, she could be a diminutive form of Margaret, via the Scottish Mairead.  But if Daisy stands on her own, maybe Maisie does, too.
• Millie – Mildred might be too dowdy to ever make a comeback, but Millie is Thoroughly Modern.  She’s also a spunky nickname for the super-sweet Millicent.
• Minnie – Yes, there’s the mouse.  But there’s also the actress – who was actually born Amelia Fiona Driver.
• Tillie – Matilda is ever so fashion forward.  Short form Tilda brings to mind the actress.  Then there’s Tillie – perhaps a bit too cute, but possibly wearable on her own.
• Trudie – It’s hard to imagine naming a daughter Gertrude.  But Trudie seems like a logical sister for Sadie – spunky, retro and not too flimsy to stand on her own.
• Zadie – If Sadie stands along, why not her zippy cousin?  The z-to-s switch has worked out just fine for novelist Zadie Smith.
• Zelie – There have definitely been women named Zelie, but her exact origins are unclear, though some link her to the French Zéline and she brings to mind the Yiddish Zelig.

I could go on – there’s Winnie and Elsie, Flossie and Roxie.  But I’ll stop here and just ask: would you consider a short, ends-in-ie name for a daughter?  And if so, would you put it on her birth certificate or opt for a more formal version?

I guess the stiff-backed professionalism I have comes from being very determined to get my musical career started. I come from a family who has always loved and been involved in music. Dad has been in bands since long before I was born, Mom is a music fan herself.

I grew up wanting to be a comic book artist, taking my portfolio around at comic conventions starting around the age of 12. I grew to later realize music was my real passion and that nothing would stop me. Not even being confined to living in a small town. I will break out, I will appear on TV, sell records, and I will become the biggest thing since cutting school. Don’t take that as conceit, I’m quoting one of my songs. I guess that in itself is conceited. Moving on.

I’m not doing too good on not sounding conceited, am I? Oh well. I am confident in my own music and I am confident that my career will pick up and that the success I dream of will come. In time. I’m listening to Minnie Riperton, finally getting around to listening to her 1974 album Perfect Angel after seeing the cover of Minnie “innocently” holding a melting ice cream cone for years. She was a musical genius and was gone too soon. Listen to Minnie belt out a whistle octave-filled ballad then try to tell me Mariah Carey can TOUCH that with a straight face. I’m 18 but I know music. And I know good music. Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift fans beware.

I’m going to continue my boring as usual Sunday afternoon listening to Minnie and several other albums I’ve downloaded. Yes, albums, not songs. Entire finished albums. I love the full experience of an album and listening to all the work the artist put into them, so they deserved to be listened to the way they were intended.

So not only did SJP and Matthew Broderick have twins, they’ve generated double the press with their name choices.

First came the announcement that the girls were named Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge.  Which was followed by chatter about how Marion and Tabitha were mismatched, and wasn’t it unfair that poor Tabitha had just two given names?

Now we learn that  SJP and Matthew Broderick call their girls Loretta and Tabitha - and that firstborn James Wilkie was responsible for choosing the name Marion.  And he was wily enough to insist that it be legal, which is why the parents put Marion first, rather than tucking her in the middle.  (Weigh in on Yea or Nay: Loretta here.  So far, opinion is split pretty evenly.)

When I asked Aly what he wanted to name his pterodactyl (no, not a real one.  This isn’t Torchwood), he told me December.  Which I find strangely appealing.  Nonetheless, I’m glad we didn’t let him (seriously) weigh in on his sister’s name.

• Jane Carrey has announced that her dad, funnyman Jim Carrey is about to be a grandpa. Apparently, Jane and boyfriend Alex Santana have already settled on the name Jackson Riley;
• Alicia Minshew of All My Children welcomed a daughter, Willow Lenora;
• Layla Kayleigh, host of America’s Best Dance Crew, and Steve Corvino, of Sirius Radio, announced the birth of a daughter, Melody Rain;
• Model Karolina Kurkova is new mom to son Tobin Jack;
• Footballer Wayne Rooney and wife Colleen are the parents of a son, Kai Wayne;

I woke to the distressing sound of a wailing “Nurse! Obama is eating the bougainvilleas again!”

Great. I’d fallen asleep in the lounge.

Miss Minnie Wilkins was yet again complaining about poor Obama, our hapless, brainless pet duck. Well, as much as he could be a duck. Perhaps his great-great-great grandfather was something like a duck. Maybe. Obama at this current time looked more like a ball of fluffed feathers than anything else. He’s never seen a pond in his life, and I don’t think he’s ever contemplated one either. For the most part, he enjoys plants. Eating, sleeping on, and tearing up plants. Which is what he was doing presently.

Oh, those poor bougainvilleas.

I shifted in my seat and realized I must have fallen asleep reading Quick Guide to Learning Ferrandoli. The book fell off my lap and onto the carpeted floor. As I went to lean down to pick it up, my head started screaming and I just had to sit back up. I checked the time. It was way past the time for my meds. That would explain it.

Minnie strutted past me with an indignant air. She was too quick for me to ask her to kindly pick up my book. As I sat there stupidly, Iedre opened the door and came to meet Miss Wilkins.

“Nurse! I just can’t stand it anymore! Obama gets into everything and eats everything. What are you going to do about it? I bet nothing. You always let George and his duck get away with murder! What about the rest of us? Have you thought about that?”

Iedre let out a big sigh after Minnie was done with her little speech. Ve was about to answer her when,

“And I’ll let you know something, Nurse! If this goes on, I will formally report you to the management. This can’t be allowed to continue.”

Ve sighed.

“Alright. First things first. We do not let George and Obama get away with murder, alright? I personally speak with George any time either of them do something against hospital policy. You know that. You’ve watched me do it many times! Secondly, yes, I will get Obama back to his room right now. He won’t be eating any more flowers. I don’t like it either; I don’t even think George likes it. Don’t be so uptight, Miss Wilkins.”

“Don’t you tell me to relax, Nurse!”

“Fine, fine. But let me ask you: What’s so important to you about those bougainvilleas that you just couldn’t stand to see them being chewed on one. More. Second?”

Cue Minnie’s famous hands-on-hips, upward-chinned, stomping flounce. If you didn’t see it with your own eyes you wouldn’t believe how caricatured a real living being could get.

As she stomped out of the room, Iedre and I simultaneously let out a big, deep sigh. Iedre took a few steps and plopped down on the couch with me. Vis chart made a loud thunk on the ground next to my book. I looked at ver. Ve was trying to contain vis laughter. I looked away and leaned back nonchalantly.

“You have to admit,” I said, “without her, there would be hardly anything to talk about at the board meetings.”

Iedre let out a long string of high-pitched giggles, and finally full bodied laughter. It was a good thing there was no one else in the lounge. Iedre had the lungs to laugh incredibly loud. All Ferrandole did. Their lungs are 50% larger than a human’s. The nurses never laughed a lot, but when they did, they woke people up.

“Wha-what do you know about board meetings?!” ve tried not to choke on vis laughter.

“Only what you and Gli tell me,” I said, my tone still calm and indifferent.

“That woman is the bane of my existence!”, ve announced to the empty room. Ve sighed again and slumped back into the couch.

“I still don’t understand why Gli goes to those meetings, after all they put ver through. It’s not like ve needs to…and neither do you! Why do you even go to those meetings?”

“Hey,” Iedre began to get defensive, “most of the complaints brought up by her either go through me or are about me. Why she focuses on me so much is a complete mystery.”

“Awww,” I pull out my mushy card, “she just likes you, that’s all.”

“Yuck, now that was uncalled for.”

“You’re just afraid of being liked by a human,” I’m completely into it, sing-song voice and all.

“What? Adam, did I give you the wrong meds? Can you seriously see a human being finding me attractive?” Vis eyes widened and I could almost see the ring where vis irises started.

“Maybe she likes the hard-to-get ones. The fact that you don’t find humans attractive could be a big turn-on.”

Imaginary crickets chirped. The flat screen in the wall continued to play “Save the Rhinoviri” infomercials. Iedre’s mouth hung open and vis gills gave a few audible puffs.

“All right,” ve composed verself, “give me your hand.”

“Come on! I’m just joking. But…you never know about those dramatic types. Weird preferences and that.”

“Hand. Please.”

“Fine.” I held my hand out, palm up, in Iedre’s lap. Ve pulled out vis rack of meds and unfastened vis hypodermic. A few pumps of the vials and the cocktail was ready to go.

Ve placed the hypo in my palm and I closed my hand as I had done a hundred times before. The tiny ball bearing whirred and I felt a bit tingly inside. I opened my palm and the ball had lost all its color.

“Thank you very much.” Iedre snapped everything back in place and promptly stood up. “And, by the way,” ve said as ve picked up the dropped chart, “Gliliwie only goes to the meetings to laugh at me.”

“How do you know?” I asked, surprised.

Ve leaned in, dropped something next to me, and whispered, “Ve said it to my face.”

I brought up my best, ‘you’re kidding’ face. I already knew it.

Iedre left with a big smile and a skip in ver steps.

I looked at the cushion to my right. There was my book.

Aren’t they terrific and creative? There’s a video from the 2006 Dog Parade, if you’re so inclined. It’s adorable.

Obviously I’m going to use this as an excuse to pimp my mom’s Halloween Card,the 2009 version. This year, it feature Minnie (Bailey) and Mickey (Ebbitt) Mouse. She takes a picture of the dogs every year and sends it out to friends and family… it’s her version of a holiday card. You’ll note that she sends pictures of the dogs, not her daughter. NOT THAT THIS ONLY CHILD CARES OR ANYTHING. Last year’s was the best yet, but I think this year’s is a v. close second. Maybe it’s just my Disney bias showing? Anyway… enjoy (and don’t judge):

She has many names… Jennifer, Jen, Jen Bunny and some call her Minnie. She has long coffee brown hair, fair skin and a big welcoming smile. Her monotone voice makes her extremely sarcastic and quite funny around her friends.  She can be shy, but her sarcasm always seems to shine through.  There are things about Jennifer that might surprise some people…

This little white girl from Westchester, likes the sound of gun shots and waking up to Lil Wayne’s “I’m a N**ga With Money.”

Although this isn’t an actual video of  the song, I thought you might want to listen to it – to get the whole experience.

It’s so embarrassing when it goes off in public” – Jen said.

So, why does she still have it as a ringtone?  Well, her love for Lil Wayne is worth the embarrassment.

foi produtor cinematográfico, cineasta, diretor, roteirista, dublador e co-fundador da The Walt Disney Company.

Foi o criador dos parques temáticos Disneylândia e DisneyWorld, além de ser o fundador da corporação de entretenimento, Walt Disney Company.

O lema de Disney sempre foi “Keep moving forward” (Continue seguindo em frente).

Aos 16 anos, começou a estudar arte, na “Kansas City Arts School”.  Em seguida, trabalhou em algumas agências publicitárias. A seguir, entrou para uma companhia cinematográfica, na qual ajudava a fazer os cartazes de propaganda dos filmes.

Com o irmão Roy, criou a pequena produtora “Laugh-O-Gram”, que animava contos de fadas. Esses desenhos animados eram exibidos no cinema local antes dos filmes.  Em Hollywood, Walt Disney contatou a distribuidora de filmes M. J. Wrinkler, dizendo que o seu estúdio de animação tinha diversos filmes para vender. Wrinkler aceitou pagar 1.500 dólares por cada filme.

Depois de angariar dinheiro, adquirir material e contratar pessoal, Walt começa a fazer planos: Alice, uma série em que uma moça convivia com personagens e cenário animado.

Depois veio Oswald, o coelho sortudo, um grande sucesso que levou à reavaliação dos valores dos contratos quanto aos preços dos filmes.

Foi para Nova Iorque, onde foi apanhado de surpresa. O patrão para quem Walt desenhou Alice e Oswald, roubou-lhe os personagens, a equipe de desenhistas e as encomendas, porque as mesmas não foram assinadas em seu nome.

Para superar a fase difícil e contornar os prejuízos, Walt Disney criou Mickey Mouse em 1928 para competir com o sucesso do Gato Félix. O camundongo, desenhado a partir de uma série de círculos, provou ser ideal para o desenho animado e se tornaria o personagem de maior sucesso dos estúdios Disney. Detalhe: O nome Mickey Mouse não seria Mickey Mouse, seria Mortimer. Mas a mulher de Disney, Lilian, insistiu e conseguiu batizá-lo assim.

Em 1927, já se havia inventado o filme sonoro. Poucos anos depois, inventou-se o filme colorido. Disney e seus assistentes utilizaram as novas técnicas com muita imaginação.

Pato Donald, Pateta e Mickey

O primeiro desenho sonorizado foi Steamboat Willie, de 1928. No início, o próprio Walt dublava o Mickey. Surgiram, em seguida, outros personagens para contracenar com o famoso camundongo:Minnie, Pato Donald, Pateta e Pluto.

De 1929 a 1939, Disney produziu uma série de desenhos chamada “Silly Symphonies“(Sinfonias Tolas), a primeira colorida. Mickey estrelava esses filmes ao lado dos novos personagens. O desenho “Flowers and Trees“, dessa série, recebeu o primeiro Oscar para um desenho animado.

Walt Disney pretendia fazer um longa-metragem da clássica estória de Branca de Neve.  Após três anos de produção, Branca de Neve gerou fundos necessários para a construção de um novo estúdio e foram criados novos longas-metragens: Pinóquio, Fantasia e Bambi.

Com a entrada dos Estados Unidos na 2ª Guerra Mundial, Disney foi convidado pelas Forças Armadas para produzir desenhos animados de treinamento para os soldados. Em seguida, começou a fazer filmes de propaganda militar, nos quais utilizava principalmente seus personagens mais conhecidos.

Cinderela

Depois da guerra, Walt Disney viu a sua empresa arruinada, pois alguns dos seus filmes tiveram pouco lucro. Decidiu, assim, a fazer o filme Cinderela, pois tal como Cinderela, Walt Disney foi da pobreza a riqueza.

Mas Walt Disney não trabalhou apenas com desenhos animados. Seu primeiro longa-metragem com atores foi “A Ilha do Tesouro” (1950). Em 1954, fez “20.000 Léguas Submarinas“, baseado na obra do escritor francês Júlio Verne.

Dez anos depois, produziu “Mary Poppins“, uma mistura de desenho animado com personagens humanos. O filme concorreu ao Oscar em 14 categorias, levando cinco prêmios, incluindo o de melhor atriz, para Julie Andrews, e o de melhor canção, por “Chim Chim Cher-ee“.

Disney obteve um de seus maiores êxitos em 1955 ao inaugurar a Disneylândia, um superparque de diversões situado em Anaheim, na Califórnia.

O chamado Walt Disney World, perto de Orlando, na Flórida, foi inaugurado em 1971, após a morte de Disney.

O cineasta, porém, não viveu para ver as atrações da Disneyworld, como o Epcot, o Magic Kingdom, os estúdios MGM (atual “Hollywood Studios”) e o Disney Animal Kingdom, além dos parques aquáticos. Walt Disney faleceu no dia 15 de dezembro de 1966, aos 65 anos, em Los Angeles, na Califórnia, vítima de câncer.

Com a ajuda de Lillian Bounds e das filhas Diane Marie e Sharon Mae, seu irmão Roy continuou comandando os negócios por mais algum tempo, vindo a falecer um mês após o término da construção do “Magic Kingdom” e a correspondente inauguração do “Walt Disney World”.

Em 2006 o cargo de CEO foi ocupado para o então presidente da Disney, Robert (Bob) Iger.  Bob iniciou um novo ciclo de expansão da companhia, cujo marco inicial é a compra dos estúdios Pixar, o que fez com que Steve Jobs, CEO da Apple e dono da Pixar se tornasse o maior acionista pessoa física da Walt Disney Company.

Em 2001, ano do centenário de nascimento de Disney, o desenho animado “Branca de Neve e os Sete Anões” foi relançado em vídeo e DVD com várias novidades, como um “making of” do desenho, um videoclipe da canção Some Day My Prince Will Come, cantada por Barbara Streisand, e um jogo. Para além de estúdios cinematográficos, o vasto império criado por Walt Disney inclui diversos parques temáticos (“Disneylândia”, “Disneyland Paris”, “Disney Japan” etc.), inúmeros canais de televisão e elevados rendimentos originados na venda direta de filmes e livros, e nos direitos de utilização por outras entidades das imagens dos personagens.

Walt Disney é a pessoa que mais prêmios Oscar ganhou em todos os tempos.

Sooo Sleepy photography picture

Three hours sleep and before I know it, I’ve got a window seat with Southwest Airlines and I’m en route to Dallas, Texas. Extremely excited for what’s to come within the next 48 hours, but at the same time, extremely tired due to previous nights activities. My excitement and nerves prevail over my lack of sleep. I’m bright eyed and on edge when we touch down at Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas.

With a quick stop over at our hotel (The Sheraton Arlington over by Six Flags Over Texas, which, by the way, was absolutely superb and a gem of a find (3.5 star Arlington – Grand Prairie Hotel choice on Hotwire for $53 plus tax, normally $150 per night)) we headed over to one of my favourite places in all of Texas, the Fort Worth Stock Yards, to get a feel of real Texas. It was a chilly 39 degrees Fahrenheit out; an extreme difference from the Orlando humidity that we left behind hours earlier. The best cure to keep warm was the cure for many of life’s problems… shopping! Oh, and how could I forget, a trip to my most  favourite candy store in the whole entire world!

Life imprisonment for the consumption of too much candy??

I scored myself an early release thanks to some good friends who paid bail. Thank goodness for that. Could you imagine telling the other inmates what I was serving time for?!? Ridiculous! I quickly got over my jail stint and not before too long, it was time to catch up with some mates over dinner at Chilis.

Back to the hotel, some quick Facebook, Twitter, Skype and MSN time, five hours of sleep and beep, beep, beep, beep, off goes the alarm at 5:30am! So sleepy. Eyelids so heavy. Eyelids slowly closing. NO! Stay awake. Eyelids heavy; drooping. AWAKE! Today is the day!!! Nervessss <insert gagging action here>.

We began our seven hour drive down to Corpus Christi just after 7am. It felt like the longest seven hours of my life, mainly because of what was still to come. We talked; we napped; we ate; we joked; we laughed… Actually, we laughed rather hard at this sign on the back of a truck that was in front of us in traffic…

Yeah, that's what he said! Haha.

We eventually made it to our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express Corpus Christi, which we also scored on Hotwire for an insanely good price. We dumped our stuff in our hotel room then got dropped off at the American Bank Center Arena at around 4pm. Here is where we met with Kelly Clarkson’s security, Brian. He escorted us into the arena and we found ourselves a seat while we watched Kelly Clarkson’s band rehearse during sound check.

Next it was my turn to jump up onstage and sing with Kelly Clarkson’s band. I wanted to vomit on myself. I was so bloody nervous. I felt like I was about to give an oral presentation in class, and God knows how much I hated those parts of my assessment. I was introduced to Kelly’s band members and we started to chat while we got organised. They were all so sweet and make me feel a little more at ease. I can’t sing for the sake of my life which makes me want to puke all over the place even more, but I try my best and sing Kelly’s current single, ‘Already Gone‘.

Those 3.5 minutes felt like an eternity but I am so glad I got to do what I had just done. I jump off stage and run to Nicole who informs me that  she didn’t want to startle me, but Kelly Clarkson had come out and was sitting in the front row watching me while I was up on stage. I was so nervous that I didn’t even look around the arena while I was singing. Once Nicole told me that, I was angry at myself for not noticing Kelly there, but at the same time, I was kind of relieved I didn’t see her. If I had noticed her sitting there, I think I would have froze in fear and then perhaps either a) wet my pants, b) vomit or c) a and b combine. Haha. What a great impression that would have been! I will spare your ears the agony and continue to allow you to live your life with the gift of sound by not posting and video of me singing.

We got to sit there and watch a bit more of the sound check before heading out to dinner at Whataburger.

After dinner, we met up with Brian again and he took us out back of the arena to meet the one and only, Miss. Kelly Clarkson!!! Although having met her several times back home in Australia, I still freak out and get nervous. What do I say? I don’t want to come across as a stuttering fool!?!

The doors swing open and out comes Kelly, all cool and down to earth. She’s so cute and tiny up close. She’s also very short, but I already knew this. She sees me standing there and walks over while she begins to tell me that she saw me singing on stage earlier. I apologize for any damage I may have caused to her ears and she starts to laugh at me while giving me a big hug. She asks about my accent and I tell her I’m actually from Australia but I’ve been interning at Disney World. Kelly seems to get really excited by this and thinks it’s the coolest thing ever that I work at Cirque du Soleil. She notices I have a Disney World bag in my hand and asks if it’s for her. I nod my head and remove the Minnie Mouse Christmas stocking from the bag. “Adorable” she says with a smile from ear to ear. I explain that the stocking is stuffed with Disney treats for her and the band and that she should share. I go to put the stocking back into the bag but she grabs at it and digs her hand inside to check out what it’s filled with. The first thing she sees when she looks inside the stocking is a Disney Christmas rice crispy treat.

Kelly: Is that a rice crispy treat?!!?!?!??! (She asks in a way too excited voice. She reminds me of a little kid!)
Me: Yes, Disney style.
Kelly: OH MY GOD! I LOVE rice crispy treats! I’m so eating this all by myself!
Me: Share!
Kelly: Not the rice crispy treats!

It’s photo time. I apologize to Kelly in advance if this will muck up her already styled stage hair, but I’d like to have our photo wearing Disney Santa hats. I usually get silly photos with Kelly but figured I wanted something Christmassy (cause tis’ the season) that would remind me of my time at Disney so I bought along my Minnie Santa hat and I bought Kelly a Mickey Santa hat.

Kelly thinks the hats are too cute and does not seem too bothered about it possibly messing up her hair. She yells out that she has a ‘fat head’ while she struggles to fit the hat over her ears. When she finally gets it on I tell her that her Mickey ears are crooked so she straightens them up and asks me how she looks; “Adorable” I answer back.

Kelly: Are you going to smile real big???
Me: Well, yeah, of course!
Kelly: AWESOME! Me too!

*snap*

We are so damn cute!

We chatted a bit more before her Tour Manager, Tim, gave me the ‘wind it up‘ signal. We said our goodbyes and then had one last hug before I left the meet and greet room to make my way into the arena to find my seat in preparation for the concert.

I could go on and on and on about how amazing the concert was. Kelly was sharp as always, her vocals were spot on and she looked great. She’s has such an amazing energy on stage and it generates through out the audience. She really is a rare talent to find these days and I will continue to be a fan for many more years to come.

For me, this show was like a bitter sweetness. I had just had the most amazing day possible singing on stage with Kelly’s band, watching her band sound check, meeting Kelly Clarkson and scoring free tickets to the concert. If you could not tell, that was the sweeter part of the bitter sweetness. At the same time, it drew an end to the three shows I had the opportunity to see on the ‘All I Ever Wanted’ U.S.A. tour. Bitter. Actually, bitter, with a side of bitter; I will be missing the Australian tour in April of 2010 because I will still be in Florida. Sad. But sweet. I mean, it’s not every day you get to say you work at Disney World!
