Marc Houle ha da poco rilasciato un nuovo EP su Minus, che sarà pubblicato solamente in versione digitale.

L’intera release incarna perfettamente il funzionalismo della M_nus, pezzi costruiti e pensati unicamente per il dancefloor, fuori non avrebbero motivo di esistere, basslines aggressive, snares onnipresenti e quei synth tipici di Houle, un pò storti al limite tra il cattivo gusto e la psichedelia.

Il disco è composto da Yonkers, Single Cell, Salamandarin, Ricker, Blunerstorm.

The New Plus/Minus

Hockey is the ultimate team sport. The only thing that matters at the end of sixty minutes is adding two points in the standings. But you know as well as I do that as a player you analyze every shift after every game in your mind to gauge how well you played. Goals and assists are a good measure of a players offensive contributions to the team. Hits and face-off wins can be a good measure of a player/teams energy. And taking too many penalties may be a sign of undisciplined play.

However coaches, parents, and players reference the plus/minus stat for accountability on the ice which I think is very misleading. Yeah Bobby Orr’s +124 signifies that he had a godlike season. But how many times have you stepped on the ice right when a goal is scored. Might as well jump back over the boards before the statistician can get your number.

Baseball has adopted the complicated sabermetrics system to get an objective measure of a players talent. Bare with me here. If a ballplayer hits the cover off the ball but a defensive player makes a great diving catch, then it’s essentially considered a hit. If a ball player strikes out a lot then it’s counted against him more then putting the ball in play. 

I had the great priveledge to play under Coach Jeff Jackson now at the University of Notre Dame. He adopted a similar system of plus/minus to provide accountability and measure progress for players. You can choose your own scoring system but here are some examples that I have used in the past:

–Player scores a goal –Player sets up a goal –Player has a great shot from the slot area/ good scoring chance –Player takes the puck wide and drives to the net for a scoring opportunity –Player provides pressure on the forecheck that leads to a turnover and a scoring chance –Player takes a big hit 5 feet inside his/her own blueline to get the puck out which creates a scoring chance –Defenseman provides a great outlet pass that leads to a scoring chance –Defenseman on the point gets the puck through a bunch of bodies for a screen/rebound chance –Player provides a big hit that changes the momentum of the game –Player wins a draw that leads to a goal or great scoring opporutnity.	–Player fails to tie up his man’s stick and they get a good shot off –Player doesn’t tie up his man on the face-off and they score or get a good chance. –Player is on the wrong side of his man down low and they walk out of the corner for a good chance/goal –Player pulls a flamingo on a point shot –Player is lazy backchecking which results in a goal/scoring chance –Player takes too long of a shift that results in a goal or scoring chance –Player makes a bad change that results in a goal/scoring chance –Player takes a bad penalty
****The main thing is that it directly leads to a goal, great scoring chance, or game changing play. The top player on your team will usually have about 5 pluses in a competitive game.****	**There are a number of lapses that can be considered a minus in this scoring system but the main thing is consistency of the scoring.***

Coaches

As a coach you may want your assistant coach to keep track of this in a notebook on the bench. If you’re lucky enough to have quality game film then you can break it down for the players so they can actually see the plus or minus.

Parents

As a parent it may be hard to provide objective judgement. Your son/daughter will undoubtedly feel you’re being too tough on them. I would suggest using the pluses as a positive reinforcement when your son/daughter explains every detail that went wrong after the game.

Players

As a player you can use this to chunk down your game. What I mean by this is that every player measures themselves by goals and assists. This can be a tough yardstick when things aren’t going your way. A slump is compounded when your name doesn’t appear on the score sheet game after game. But you could be playing well/working hard and just not getting the bounces. If you look at your game in this perspective you can pull positives out to build off of.

The great part about this system is that it provides something players can measure their on ice progress. Coach Jackson would have a score sheet the next day during video that would list each player by number and their true plus/minus. Good game or bad game you wanted to see your "grade." It was kind of like the beginning scene in Tommy Boy when Chris Farley is scanning for his name outside the classroom.

18 Jahre nachdem man in Deutschland versucht hat den Zuschauern, neben den GEZ-Gebühren, weiteres Geld fürs fernsehen aus der Tasche zu ziehen, kann man getrost vermelden: so richtig will das nicht klappen!

Ende 2008 wurde Premiere von Rupert Murdoch vor den drohenden Untergang gerettet. Nicht nur die Namensänderung von Premiere zu Sky, auch neue Paketpreise und das “Du” an der Telefon-Hotline wurden eingeführt. Alles um mittlerweile festzustellen, das die Ausgaben höher sind, als die Einnahmen. Sprich, man schreibt weiterhin rote Zahlen – mehr als man erwartet hatte.

Interessant  ist das vor allen Dingen in Sachen Fussball. Das ist nicht nur das größte Zugpferd für Sky, der Sport ist auch stark abhängig von den TV-Geldern, wie sie eben beispielsweise Sky zahlt. Aber was wäre, wenn Sky aus den roten Zahlen nicht rauskommt und deswegen irgendwann den Betrieb vollständig einstellen müsste? Es ist, nachdem in der Vergangenheit bereits Arena TV gescheitert ist, kaum vorstellbar, dass sich ein neuer Pay-TV Sender findet, der in diese Geldvernichtung einsteigen will.

Singurul minus al merelor este tendinţa de a-şi pierde calităţile în doar câteva zile, o problemă pe care a rezolvat-o, însă, o echipă de oameni de ştiinţă din Australia.

Chciałabym byc całkiem sama przez dobę, nie wyłazic z domu, przemieszczac się pomiędzy sypialnią a salonem w poszukiwnaiu kolejnej filiżanki kawy, nacieszyc się ciszą.

Jakoś to życie ostatnio przyspiesza, pojawiają się nowi ludzie, wracają uniwersyteccy przyjaciele a ja sama czuję się coraz bardziej pusta.

I nie wiem, dlaczego dostaję kolejny bukiet róż, choc są prześliczne i sprawiają, że się uśmiecham.

Mixed by Polished-born, Detroit-raised Magda, fabric 49 is the latest installment of the iconic fabric compilation series.

In contrast to the heavy tribal drums in Radio Slave’s fabric 48 (read my review here), Magda, who is one of the most renowned artists from Richie Hawtin’s Minus label, adopts a more minimalistic approach here. Indeed, with the hybridisation of house and techno over the past couple of years, creating a fresh-sounding minimal techno compilation nowadays is no easy task at all; however on fabric 49, Magda has done a brilliant job. In fact, although there are dark, bleepy and glitchy minimal tracks in the mix, such as Boosty’s Telescope and Farben’s Aufschlag/Abschlag, it is not quite right to define it as minimal techno compilation straightway, as various types of sounds apart from purist minimal have been deployed.

Har som ni vet inte ätit hur nyttigt som helst, så när jag ställde mig på vågen i morse så kändes det lite som domens dom. Jag hade dock tränat en gång vilket målet var två… men det kändes bra ändå. Hur som helst ska jag inte hålla er på sträckbänken längre. Jag hade gått ner trots julbord och allt. Jag är jätteglad. Det känns verkligen skönt. Det var inte lite heller. Jag tror att en del av det hela också kan vara att jag hade mens förra veckan, vilket gör att man samlar på sig lite extra vätska.

Jag är verkligen jätteglad över detta resultat.

Mitt mål inför denna vecka 47 är att hålla mina points och att planera vad det är som jag ska äta under veckan. Till helgen ska jag försöka att hålla mig ifrån allt godis, vi har gäster på lördagen så kanske är det så att det kommer fram något litet vi får se… Något som också hör till mitt mål är att jag ska träna minst 2 gånger denna vecka. Hoppas att det denna vecka kommer att fungera!

Idag var det verkligen kallt ute när vi vaknade. Det var hela 6 grader minus. Kallast hittills denna vinter. Det lär ju bli kallare än så men just nu är det kallt ute.

Sitter i ungarnas rum och sällskapar medan dom leker med lego. Dom är helt nöjda med det.

WTF?! Why do I keep doing this electro type music for? I guess it’s because its fun to mix. I feel like I’m going on a journey when I mix electro tracks. I like finding those transitions that just sound perfect together and let them ride for a good 32, 64, or more bars sometimes.

Yeah, I don’t really listen to electro by my own powers but I love it in the club when the bass is hittin’ and the DJs are killin’ it. I sift through a shitload of it too when I am listening to music blogs. At that point, I just get into a “this works, this doesn’t work” mode as I pick songs that I could potentially use in a mix. I never really look for it though. I never search the artists. My trusted blogs, which I probably follow for hip hop, downtempo, bmore, indie, and so on, just seem to love electro as well, so its right in my face. Being the thorough person that I am, I got to listen to all the tracks that the blog is offering up, if I trust the blog. So you see, electro is always in my face, I will always be previewing and downloading tracks, and eventually making more electro mixes. Just hope somebody out there appreciates my work. I do appreciate mixing electro though, because it brings out a lot of my musical creativity that can’t be seen when I am mixing hip hop. Thank you electro, for bombarding me with your hits.

Wqrwia mnie sposob bycia osob, ktorych nie moge ani ominac na drodze, ani zmienic. Nie umiem, i tez nie chcialabym sie do nich dostosowac. Uwazam, ze traktowanie innych – bez wzgledu na stanowisko, wiek czy – wazny w Anglii status spoleczny – jak dzieci jest po prostu nieodpowiednie i swiadczy o powaznych kompleksach.

Czasami wydaje mi sie, ze ta czesc mojego zycia to jakis film, w ktorym przyszlo mi grac role out-sidera. Chcialabym znalezc dosc bezpieczna pozycje pomiedzy cisza a dokonaniami, ale nie ma tu miejsca ani na jedno, ani na drugie. Wiec pozostaje rola ducha – jak w Hamlecie – ktory moze po cichutku cos tam napomknie i zmieni nastawienie paru osob, ale system i tak, i tak sie sypnie i skonczy tragedia. Czuje upadek systemu i mecze sie nieporadnoscia, w ktora zostaje spychana. Znow stoje na pustyni i podziwiam piekne chmury przechodzace ponad nia, ale nic wiecej i nie moge sie z tym z nikim podzielic…

Dosc klasyczny obraz depresji, czyz nie? I moze tez tak by bylo, gdyby nie fakt, ze poza filmem wiele spraw sie prostuje, wiele sie ucze o sobie i wydaje sie byc coraz blizej moich celow. Mam wiele szczescia, ale tez i walcze o reszte.

Da, ati citit bine titlul si nu… chiar nu glumesc. In caz ca vreti sa stiti daca data este corecta, da.. este si ea corecta. Miercuri 11.11.2009 vine sfarsitul lumii sau cu alte cuvinte era glaciara si nu, chiar nu vorbesc de Ice Age 3 sau 4 sau orice asemanator. Pur si simplu dau mai departe informatia primita de la statia meteo prin aeroportul Arad.

Dragi cetateni, prieteni… ne aflam la distanta de doar cateva zile de la schimbarea drastica a climei Pamantului. Viata, asa cum noi o stim nu va mai fi, poate ea nu va mai fi deloc. In data de 11.11.2009 noaptea temperatura aerului va scade la -999 de grade celsius, ceea ce inseamna temperatura de pana la 15 mai mare ca cea glaciara, o temperatura fatala si cataclismica care va omora totul in calea ei instantaneu. Nu vorbesc aiurea, am dovada:
