Why do I always type a little blurb here? It never really says anything; I just feel weird diving straight into the match results themselves without any preamble. It’s too… impersonal that way. So hello, hi, here we are, so let’s get down to it:

Calcio:

AS Roma Totti 3-1 Bari – Romanisti always repeat one thing when Er Pupone is sidelined: No Totti, no Party. But sometimes we get so caught up in our own negativity that we forget the flip-side of that equation: Totti = party. Er Capitano made his return today against Bari, back from over a month out after going into knee surgery earlier in the season. And just to remind us why we miss him when he’s gone, he scored a hattrick. In the first half hour. The first came on 7′ – a spot kick after Jean-François Gillet downed Mirko Vucinic in the area. Then, only 7 minutes later, Totti launched a searing free-kick into the back of the net to make it 2-0. On 28′, he scored a world-class – and seemingly impossible – goal, beating Bari’s defense, Gillet and firing an acute-angle shot into the far corner. Beauty. Roma did their usual thing in the second half, sitting comfortably back on their large lead and letting i Galletti tire themselves out. However, the visitors finally pulled one back when youngster Marco Andreolli nodded the ball into his own net on 73′. A bit of a blemish, but a pretty good party nonetheless. To Gillet’s credit, he was outstanding for most of the match (those stretches when Totti was not destroying his self esteem), as was Julio Sergio, who was very solid behind the Roman back four. Mirko Vucinic was phenomenal, back to his old self again, while the only real black spot for Roma was Nicolas Burdisso, who was an absolute horrorshow at right-back. Also, the own goal was unfortunate. But all in all, a very good party with Er Capitano back at the helm. I can’t wait until we get Danielino back – then we can really party.

Inter 3-1  Bologna – The Inter Offside webpage referred to this match as a ‘Mortadella Speedbump’ — that pretty much sums it up for me. The reigning champions probably felt as if they could simply stroll into the Stadio Dall’Ara and come back out with three easy points, and their hosts failed to prove them wrong. There was a bit of tension early in the match; Diego Milito put Inter ahead on 22′ off of a corner from Maicon, only for Marcelo Zalayeta to equalize within 60 seconds, smashing the ball past Julio Cesar and into the top corner. The next 20 minutes saw both teams get really into the game, but Mario Balotelli should have put his side ahead when he beat the Bologna backline and dummied ‘keeper Emiliano Viviano – only to waste enough time that Viviano was able to get up and rob him of his much belated shot. One could see Jose Mourinho rise from his bench, flailing in anger. However, Supermario was able to atone for his sins just before the half; another Maicon corner saw the young striker rise powerfully in the air and head home to make it 2-1 for the Nerazzurri. He picked up a knock in the process, however, and was subbed off for Samuel Eto’o, who made a rare start on the bench. The visitors would make their lead more comfortable midway through the second half, with Esteban Cambiasso, who was in excellent form, burying a left-foot strike on 72′. To be honest, the hosts never looked like they were going to get back into the game, and Inter cruised to a comfortable win over the Emiliani.

AC Milan 4-3 Cagliari – It was a bit of a rollercoaster ride in the San Siro this afternoon, but i Rossoneri came out on top. Clarence Seedorf gave the home side an early lead on 5′, but gli Isolani weren’t interested in falling behind and Alessandro Matri equalized just 3 minutes later. The visitors would take the lead on 30′ when Andrea Lazzari found himself completely unmarked at Milan’s back post and gave his side a 2-1 lead. This time though, it was Milan’s turn to come from behind, as Marco Borriello and Alexandre Pato bagged a pair of goals in quick succession to put their side up 3-2 by the 39th minute. Pato’s goal was particularly nice, a rocket-powered blast into the top shelf which sent the San Siro crowd into an uproar. Milan would further consolidate their lead after the break, with Ronaldinho stepping up to the spot after Borriello had been felled in the area and burying it, sending Federico Marchetti the wrong way. He seems to score all of his goals that way, doesn’t he? More on him later. Cagliari was able to reduce Milan’s lead to a single goal when Nenê beat Dida on 68′, but Milan would hold onto their rather precarious lead and edge their visitors 4-3 in what turned out to be an exciting goalfest. Now, Ronaldinho. He was quite possibly – I’d almost say easily – the man of the match; back to his Barcelona form and full of tricks and flicks. That he only got onto the scoresheet via PK is misleading, as he was the creative force behind Milan’s devastating offense all night. That being said, their defending was quite shoddy, and against a better team (no offense, Cagliari, I like you guys) they might have come away with a rather different result. That being said, an excellent high-scoring match to put il Diavolo into 3rd place. Who says Serie A is boring?

Juventus 1-0 Udinese – Oh that’s right, Juventini say Serie A is boring. Because Juve is boring. I Bianconeri edged, well, i Bianconeri in Turin to keep their Scudetto hopes alive tonight. After the kickoff, it was all Juventus; Diego and Mauro Camoranesi both came close in the first quarter of an hour. After that though, the game went into a bit of a lull, and neither side looked dangerous (or did anything important) before the halftime break – unless you count a Udinese goal rightly disallowed for offside. After the restart, it was once again Juventus who set the pace, and this time it paid off. Summer signing Martin Cácares set up summer signing Fabio Grosso, who beat Samir Handanovic with ease to put the home side up 1-0 on 51′. Udinese fought hard throughout the remainder of the half, and both Handanovic and Gigi Buffon were called upon to make class saves, but ultimately the most exciting thing to happen before the fulltime whistle was Alessandro Del Piero’s appearance as a substitute. Juventino or not, you gotta love that guy.

Football:

A hattrick? No, that was just a warm-up.

Tottenham Hotspur 9-1 Wigan Athletic – Stop the press! What in God’s name do they put in the water in Tottenham? The Spurs recorded the second-biggest Premiership blowout in history at White Hart Lane over a hapless Wigan Athletic, with Jermain Defoe grabbing 5 himself in the second half. Peter Crouch opened the scoring for the home side on 9′, and believe it or not, that was it for the first half. Defoe got started right away after the break though, netting on 51′ and 54′, before Paul Scharner (who may have also pulled a Thierry Henry) pulled one back for the Latics to make it 3-1 on 57′. Defoe wasn’t done yet though, and to complete his hattrick restored the Spurs 3-goal margin just seconds later. Aaron Lennon got in on the action with a goal of his own on 64′, and then Jermain Defoe topped off his hattrick with a brace on 69′ and 87′. Chris Kirkland put the ball into his own net on 88′ to make it 8-1, and then Niko Kranjcar scored in the 4th minute of stoppage time to make the scoreline a whopping 9-1. To put this into perspective, didn’t table-toppers Chelsea lose to Wigan this season? Holy shit, dude.

Chelsea 4-0 Wolverhampton – Speaking of Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti’s men took part in a rout of their own this weekend, though it seems rather paltry in comparison with their London neighbours’ rather excessive beatdown. The Wolves simply had no chance at Stamford Bridge, and with Florent Malouda opening the scoring with a 25-yard strike on 5′, it seemed a cricket score was imminent. Michael Essien furthered that notion, bagging a brace within a 10 minute span by finding the back of the Wolves’ net on 12′ and 22′. The visitors simply had no response to the dominant Chelsea play, and their ill-advised 2-5-3 formation left plenty of gaps for the Blues to exploit. The teams went into the half with the score 3-0, but not before Sylvain Ebanks-Blake forced a class save from Petr Cech. As the game progressed, Wolverhampton reverted to a more solid 4-4-2, it was not enough to stop Joe Cole from scoring his first Premiership goal in over a year, making the score 4-0. Another quite impressive blowout/shutout from Ancelotti’s men, but until they score 9 goals I think they’ll feel that their crosstown rivals have the upper hand. Then again, they’re leading the league, so who cares about the Spurs?

Liverpool 2-2- Manchester City – Every time a Koppite cries, and angel get its wings. Or so I’ve been led to believe. Either way, both the Reds and the Blues (no, no, other Reds. Other Blues too.) dropped points and further away from the top 4 with a 4-goal draw at Anfield on Saturday. Martin Skrtel gave the home side the lead on 50′, only for Emmanuel Adebayor and Stephen Ireland to respond on 69′ and 76′ respectively to give the Citizens a 2-1 lead. A loss at this stage in the competition would have meant disaster for the Scousers, but luckily Yossi Benayoun cut any Mancunian celebrations short by responding with a goal of his own on 77′ to equalize and make it 2-2. And 2-2 the score would remain. This result is neither a complete disaster for Mark Hughes or Rafa Benitez, but you gotta think that the two of them, and their grossly underperforming squads, have gotta be feeling a little uncomfortable right now.

Manchester Utd 3-0 Everton – As for the other Reds and Blues of Manchester and Liverpool, a draw was not in the cards. The Red Devils trounced the Toffeemakers at Old Trafford to stay within five points of Chelsea in the table. Darren Fletcher opened the scoring for the homeside on 35′ with a beautiful goal that has been compared (somewhat hyperbolically) to the work of Zinedine Zidane. After the half Michael Carrick and Luis Antonio Valencia would add a goal each, while David Moyes’ men could do little but keep the scoreline respectable. I gotta say, the Merseyside derby is going to be downright depressing this year…

Sunderland 1-0 Arsenal – Oh, Arsenal. The Gooners had gone over a dozen games without a loss, but as usual Arsene Wenger’s men got a little too close to the sun and their wings simply burned up. Also, they had a lot of injuries. The Londoners put in an unfocused and ramshackle performance against a determined Sunderland side who clearly wanted the result more. And they got it. Sunderland simply rode out wave after wave of potent Arsenal attacking play, though admittedly, it didn’t seem like the Gunners wanted to do much other than controlling the ball in midfield. On 71′, the home side finally got their chance and Darren Bent buried it to make the score 1-0 for the Black Cats. Wenger’s men had simply no will to get back into the game (perhaps their minds were occupied with thoughts of next week’s clash against Chelsea) and ultimately fell to a steely Sunderland side. This is the second time this year that the Black Cats have beaten a top 4 side – and this time it can’t even be blamed on a beach ball.

Futbol:

Real Madrid 1-0 Racing Santander – Well, Los Galacticos are still without their biggest star – Cristiano Ronaldo – and they’re still not playing as ‘Galacticos’ perhaps should, but they’re finally where Galacticos should be: on top. Gonzalo Higuaín provided the difference that Manuel Pellegrini’s men needed to take down mid-table residents Racing Santander, with a strike from close range on 22′. Both sides had second-half goals disallowed for offsides, with both Karim Benzema and Sergio Canales putting the ball into the back of the net only to be notified by the referee that they need not celebrate. As has been the norm this year, Madrid did not completely convince, but their narrow victory was nevertheless enough to see them go top of the table for the first time this season after Barcelona picked up a similarly unconvincing result in Bilbao.

Because Bear Country is more frightening than Basque Country.

Barcelona 1-1 Athletic Bilbao – Treble Champions they may be, but at times this season Barcelona have failed to look the part. They faltered again in their title race during this weekend’s trip to Basque Country. Though many of their starting 11, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, were out with knocks, one could still expect Barcelona to produce a result against midtable opponents such as Bilbao. Early in the match, Los Leones put pressure on their visitors, peppering them with corners and free kicks, while Barca looked simply content to play on the counter. Soon however, Barca wrested control of possession from their hosts, and began to look like the side to score, though when it came to finishing they came up empty – at least in the first half. However, after the restart the Blaugrana got off on the right foot, with Daniel Alves running on to the end of a perfect throughball from Xavi and finding the back of Bilbao’s net. Athletic immediately responded by bringing Toquero into the game; a move that would prove very effective as the substitute would equalize for the home side within 10 minutes of coming onto the pitch, running onto a long ball and smashing it home. All that was left to do for Bilbao was to park the bus and ride out the waves of Barcelona attacks – which they did – in order to gain a point and drop the reigning champions down to second place. What has happened to Pep Guardiola’s men?

Fußball:

Bayern München 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen – Well, Die Roten haven’t sunk any further into their slump, but they haven’t de-slumped either, achieving a draw against league-leading Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz-Arena this weekend. Mario Gomez and Stephan Kießling each netted for their respective sides early on in the match; both goals came within the first 15 minutes of play. Bayern started off energetically, with their aggressive attack leading to Mario Gomez’s opener on 8′, which he sidefooted in on an advantage play after Miroslav Klose was fouled. However, their visitors soon caught up to them in pace and were able to exploit the home side’s defensive weaknesses; Kießling easily beat the offside trap and slotted the ball coolly past Hans-Jörg Butt to make it all square on 14′. Each team had spells of pacy and bright looking attack, but neither could capitalize during those stretches; Leverkusen keeper Rene Adler saved his side time and time again with world class saves to prevent Bayern from getting out in front. Even Thomas Müller, who has so often been Bayern’s ace-in-the-hole this season proved ineffectual, and was subbed in the second half for Ivica Olic, returning from a lengthy injury layoff. The chances petered out towards the end of the game, and a 1-1 draw it would remain – a result that sees Bayer reclaim 1st and Bayern languish in 7th.

Werder Bremen 6-0 SC Freiburg – Poor Freiburg. On more than a few occasions this season they have found themselvesin situations where they are simply out of their depth. The home side suffered a humbling defeat to Die Grün-Weißen in their own Badenova-Stadion, falling 6-0 in an all-out slaughter. Hugo Almeida opened the scoring for the visitors on 33′, Marko Marin added a second on 55′, Almeida doubled his money on 57′, Mesut Özil netted on 67′, Naldo on 73′ and substitute Markus Rosenberg made it 6-0 with 8 minutes left to play. Freiburg once again made a case for having the worst defense in the Bundesliga (they have the highest number of goals against; 30) and sit 13th in the league table, while this victory propels Werder Bremen to second, just a point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. I guess the English aren’t the only ones who know how to have a good blowout!

A couple of very big (in my not-so-humble opinion, at least) matches went down this weekend, with some producing more exciting results than others. This week there was a double countdown to what I thought were two of the biggest Red v. Blue matches this year. In England we had arguably the two largest Premiership contenders in Chelsea and Manchester United going head-to-head, while in Italy Scudetto favourites Internazionale went testa-alla-testa with my beloved (but struggling terribly) AS Roma.

Football:

Arsenal 4-1 Wolverhampton – Sure, Chelsea and United are probably the two favourites in the Premiership race this season, but I’m not fool enough to dismiss Arsenal as also-rans just yet. For one thing, the Gunners are on a hot streak of 13 unbeaten matches in all competitions. For another thing, one of those matches consisted of something of an Arsenal youth squad (but then again, aren’t all their squads youth squads?) defeating admittedly-struggling Liverpool in Carling Cup play. On the other hand, this weekends performance in particular wasn’t all that impressive, and it might be more appropriate to say that Wolverhampton lost the match rather than saying Arsenal won it. The Molineux Stadium offered the Wolves no security, as the visitors went up 3-0 before the end of the first half, with 2 of those goals being put into the Wolves’ own net by their defenders Ronald Zubar and Joey Craddock. Cesc Fàbregas would provide the third. Andrei Arshavin added his name to the scoresheet in the second half, and Joey Craddock somewhat atoned for his errors by scoring a consolation goal (in Arsenal’s net, this time) in the 89th minute. Along with the result of the Chelsea-United match this afternoon, this win in Wolverhampton sees Arsenal climb to second in the League table.

Perhaps one day Drogba will follow the footsteps of Vinnie Jones to Hollywood.

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester Utd A fairly controversial match – but then again, it was always going to be. There’s bound to be a million gripes from United fanboys about the various ‘injustices’ committed against them today, so if you’re a Blues fan gloat with caution, because you’re likely to receive a long series of whines in response. Let me say a few things: Darren Fletcher’s foul was not a foul, Drogba should probably retire and become an actor, and Jonny Evans is a little punk. Many tempers flared during the match, and it seemed as if a full-out brawl was imminent at points, but alas they kept their heads and all that came of it was a flurry of yellow cards. It was nevertheless dramatic, though, with such highlights as the constant battle between Didier Drogba and Wes Brown providing (me, at least) with much entertainment. It would be Mr. Chelsea himself, John Terry, who would make the difference between the two sides, heading in what I believe was the only goal United have conceded from a set piece this year on 76′. I suppose that earns him a man of the match nod, but other contenders include Wayne Rooney, Nicolas Anelka and Michael Essien, who all gave 110% and played hard-nosed games (must’ve eaten their Toast’n'Butta this morning). Though Drogba’s theatrics were shameful, and he may have hauled down Wes Brown in the build-up to Chelsea’s goal, I have to call out Jonny Evans here, for his kung-fu kick to the chest of Drogba and then his tackle on Ricardo Carvalho long after the whistle. Horrific performance for the youngster; he should consider himself lucky that he wasn’t sent off. A win that sees Chelsea sitting 5 points clear atop the EPL table, and which should boost their morale for weeks to come. As for United; well I’m sure we’ll hear all about how they feel.

Manchester City 3-3 Burnley – Bad news all over Manchester this weekend, it seems. City have been struggling for weeks now, and had drawn their 4 previous fixtures. Well, make it five, Citizens. Newly-promoted Burnley are notoriously shoddy away from home, yet a late goal helped them to steal a point at the City of Manchester Stadium in a 6-goal draw. Burnley in fact took an early 2-0 lead over their hosts after Graham Alexander converted a spot kick and Steven Fletcher found the back of the net. City fought back, and goals from Shaun Wright-Phillips, Kolo Toure and Craig Bellamy saw them take control of the game by the 56th minute. However, they were unable to keep hold of that control and on 87′ Burnley substitute Kevin McDonald scored to bring his side level for once and for all. I’m sure Burnley won’t be happy to have given up that initial 2-0 lead, but all in all, this is a result which should leave Owen Coyle pleased and Mark Hughes with his head in his hands.

Futbol:

The dangerous duo nearly gave Los Blancos a run for their money.

Real Madrid 3-2 Atlético Madrid – Well, El Clásico never fails to disappoint. Even in a season where Atléti has struggled so badly that they have been forced to make a change in management, against Los Blancos they always bring their all. It seemed at first that Real would simply stroll to a Clásico win this season, after Kaká gave his side the lead on 5′, with Marcelo and Higuaín adding their names to the scoresheet on 24′ and 64′, respectively. However, Los Colchoneros would battle back late in the second half after Sergio Ramos was given his marching orders on 66′; a frenzied 2 minutes would see Diego Forlán and Sergio Agüero pull two goals back for their side with 10 minutes left to play. Manuel Pellegrini’s men would ultimately be able to hold off their crosstown rivals, but Quique Sánchez Flores can at least take heart from his side’s spirited fightback. An exciting Clásico, to say the least.

Barcelona 4-2 Mallorca – Samuel Eto’o commented this week that if he had not been bound by his duties to Inter, he would have traveled to the Camp Nou to see his ex-sides face off against one another – he would have sat directly at the centre line so as to not betray his allegiance to one over the other. I gotta say, Sammy, from a Romanista’s point of view, I wish you’d gone. But I digress. Barcelona youngster Pedro gave his side an early lead on 10′, only for Mallorca’s Nunes to equalize from a corner kick just under 10 minutes later. Pedro wasn’t finished yet, though and on 39′ restored the lead to his side, smashing home the third rebound after Mallorca keeper Aouate denied teammates Thierry Henry and Sergi Busquets. The two would get their chance just a few moments later, when Busquets sent in a cross for Henry, who beat Aouate with a diving header to make it 3-1. Lionel Messi was introduced after the break to further increase Barca’s tally – he would eventually, but he would take his time, and it would only be from the spot after teammate Ibrahimovic was brought down in the area. Mallorca sub Alhassane Keita would earn one back for his side late into stoppage time, but ultimately it was too little too late and Barcelona would cruise to an easy victory.

Fußball:

Bayern München 1-1 Schalke 04 – Bayern have been demoralized over and over again the past two weeks, and were perhaps unenthused to face the stiff challenge of Schalke this weekend. Schalke sit above Die Roten in the standings, and looked to pressure the home side early, forcing them into rash challenges and using their wingers to cause Bayern problems on the break. Both sides traded chances in the early stages of the match, but ultimately it would be Bayern who would get ahead first, with a little bit of luck. On 31′ Holger Badstuber lofted in a long ball to Miroslav Klose, whose headed effort deflected off of Kevin Kuranyi and landed at the feet of Daniel van Buyten, who duly buried it. However, Joel Matip, making his debut for Die Königsblauen, was able to cancel out the home side’s advantage with a strike of his own on 43′. The teams would go into the half level, and when they came back it was all Bayern – Louis van Gaal’s men poured forward and for the better part of the half had their visitors pinned in their own end. However, no matter what Bayern did, they were unable to find the back of the net, and both van Gaal and Felix Magath’s sides would come away from the game with a point. Bayern need to get themselves out of this current slump if they are to have any chance of keeping alive their hopes of European and domestic conquest.

AS Roma 1-1 Inter – I think I’ll tackle this one in its own article.

Mauro Camoranesi makes the difference for Juventus once again.

Juventus 5-2 Atalanta – It seems that when Mauro Camoranesi is on form, so is La Vecchia Signora. Forget Brazilians and expensive summer signings (and those that are one and the same); the success of Ciro Ferrara’s squad depends on the performance of the Italian international, who has been with i Bianconeri since 2002. In the case of yesterday’s game, it was Camoranesi’s brace which opened up the scoring in a 5-2 drubbing of Atalanta. Felipe Melo, Diego and David Trezeguet would account for the other 3 goals on Juventus’s part, while Valdes and Fabio Ceravolo pulled back 2 for the home side. This is a very positive result for Juve; while Atalanta generally climb to midtable at the best of times, they are nonetheless notoriously difficult to defeat at home. With Inter tying Roma and yesterday’s drubbing in Bergamo, Juve move to 5 points off of first place.

AC Milan 2-1 SS Lazio – I give Davide Ballardini until the end of the month. After the horrendous loss to Villareal in Europa League play on Thursday, Lazio needed some kind of result to break them out of a long, long losing streak. Admittedly, this revived AC Milan team are not the easiest team to achieve it against, but if they are going to do it anywhere, it would be in their Roma’s house, the Stadio Olimpico. As it can plainly be seen, they did not achieve said result. Thiago Silva and Alexandre Pato both found the Lazio net with first-half goals to dash whatever hopes could still be held in the Curva Nord even before the halftime whistle. However, Lazio were handed a lifeline when Thiago Silva deflected the ball into his own net after some deft play by Mauro Zarate. After that own-goal, gli Aquilotti seriously threatened to equalize, with Tommaso Rocchi and Mauro Zarate both coming close to restoring parity. In the end though, AC Milan would grab a valuable 3 points, while Lazio return to their fortress of solitude media silence to ponder what continues to go wrong.

Fiorentina 1-0 Udinese – It took them 84 minutes, but la Viola were able to to squeak by midtable side Udinese with some help from a Juan Manuel Vargas strike. It was  night of missed chances for both sides; a race to the finish where both teams were misfiring on all cylinders. Fiorentina had the bulk of the chances, with 14 shots and 5 on target, compared to Udinese’s 7 and 2. However, only one of those shots would make a difference tonight at the Stadio Friuli, and it would be Vargas’ set-piece shot. That shot earned i Gigliati a victory which sees them only 1 point behind AC Milan in the standings, sitting comfortably in 4th place.

Also mit so einer starken Vorstellung hab ich nicht gerechnet. Ohne Probleme sind wir ganz souverän ins Viertelfinale des DFB-Pokal eingezogen.

Ok man muss auch erwähnen das die Eintracht und speziell Maik Franz einen rabenschwarzen Tag erwischt hatte, aber das war doch schon eine sehr gute Vorstellung von uns. Und das Spiel hätte auch durchaus höher als 4:0 (3:0) ausgehen können.

Bei der Aufstellung gab es wie schon im Vorbericht angedeutet [> siehe hier] keine großen Veränderungen im Vergleich zum Aufeinandertreffen beider Mannschaft vor vier Tagen in der Liga. Lediglich für Danijel Pranjic rutschte Edson Braafheid ins Team als linker Verteidiger. Arjen Robben nahm auf der Bank Platz und sollte dort dann auch die kompletten 90 Minuten verbringen. Angesichts des klaren Spielstands und des nie gefährdeten Siegs eine vernünftige Maßnahme den Holländer noch mal zu schonen.

Dem guten Spiel des FC Bayern tat das aber keinen Abbruch. Schon in den Anfangsminuten legte die van Gaal-Elf gut los und hatte durch van Buyten (9.) und Müller (13.) erste Torchancen.

In der 14. Minute dann die verdiente Führung durch Miroslav Klose als er einen Traumpass von van Bommel über Nikolov zum 1:0 ins Tor lupfte. Was anschließend folgte war eine der beste Leistungen unter van Gaal – mit gnädiger Mithilfe von Eintracht Frankfurt. In der 19. Minute setzte sich Müller an der Außenlinie stark gegen Franz durch und bediente in der Mitte den alleingelassenen Klose. Der hatte wiederrum keine Mühe den Ball aus zwölf Metern ins Tor zu versenken. Damit war das Spiel quasi schon gelaufen.

Zehn Minuten später war Franz erneut im Mittelpunkt des Geschehens. Sein Rückpass zu Nikolov wurde viel zu kurz, Klose ersprintete sich den Ball und legte dann uneigennützig frei vor dem Eintracht-Tor auf Müller. Der hatte natürlich keine Mühe den Ball zu versenken.

Von Frankfurt war nichts aber auch garnichts zu sehen. Die Bayern durften schalten und walten wie sie wollten. Etwas Gefahr für das Bayern-Tor gab es erst in den Schlussminuten als der Rekordmeister zwei Gänge zurückgeschalten hatte. Und dort dann auch mit gnädiger Mithilfe des FC Bayern als z.B. Butt sich im Strafraum verdribbelte (72.), Liberopoulos brachte den Ball aber nicht im Tor unter.

Zuvor war es freilich schon zum 4:0 gekommen. Wieder machte Franz eine schlechte Figur als Müller ihn erneut austanzte und eine sehr schöne Flanken in den Strafraum schlug. Dort köpfte Toni nahezu unbedrängt zum 4:0 (52.) ein. Solche Flanken ist man von unseren Spielern eigentlich garnichts gewohnt. Große Klasse!

Das ganze hatte Daniel van Buyten schon nicht mehr auf dem Platz erlebt. Der Belgier wurde zur Halbzeit ausgewechselt und Martin Demichelis durfte in Halbzeit zwei weitere wichtige Spielpraxis vor dem Ernstfall gegen Bordeaux (dort fehlt van Buyten gesperrt) sammeln.

Well, International week has come again. The qualification stage for South Africa 2010 is soon coming to an end (and good riddance to it); although yesterday saw several dramatic matches and the final qualification matches on Wednesday should also prove exciting. As of yesterday, the following nations have qualified for the World Cup: Serbia, Germany, Denmark, England, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Australia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay and Chile. Notable exceptions include France, Argentina and Portugal – all three of these footballing powers have struggled greatly on the road to South Africa, but all three will be heartened by the results they achieved yesterday. Oh, and the fact that FIFA has decided to seed the qualification play-offs and destroy football in the process. But I digress – let’s get down to it:

Argentina 2-1 Peru – Man oh man, did Diego Maradona ever need this. Argentina’s nightmarish qualification campaign was almost drawn to a premature close yesterday but for the heroic last-ditch efforts of Martin Palermo. Palermo’s goal on 92′ cancelled out the last-ditch heroics of Peruvian substitute Hernan Rengifo, who thought he had sealed a draw for his side with his headed goal in the 89th minute. Argentina had gone ahead earlier in the game on a strike from Higuan just after the break, but Peru had thought they were going to keep the Albicelestes (who needed the win) out of the World Cup with Rengifo’s late header in the torrential downpour of Buenos Aires. However, Argentina was not willing to say die, and when the ball flashed across the mouth of the Peruvian goal just 3 minutes later, Palermo was there to bury it. A win that keeps alive both Argentina’s hopes of getting to the World Cup and Maradona’s hopes of keeping his job.

Gilardino plays last minute hero for Italia.

Italy 2-2 Republic of Ireland - Keeping with the theme of last-minute heroics are the Azzurri, who played to a 2-2 draw against Ireland in front of a crowd of over 70,000 in Dublin’s Croke Park yesterday. The Boys in Green took the lead twice in the game, and twice Italy equalized. Ireland took an early lead on 7′, with a schoolyard free kick that caught the defending Italians with their pants down and left Gigi Buffon dumbfounded. Liam Lawrence appeared to be taking the kick from out on the wing, but instead teed up an onrushing Glenn Whelan in the middle, who, unchallenged, beat Buffon with an unstoppable swerving kick. It was a beauty of a goal and a wake-up call for Lippi’s men. However, Mauro Camoranesi would make it equal on 26′ with a goal of his own, a bullet header that beat Shay Given off the end of a perfectly-placed corner kick from Andrea Pirlo. The game would remain level until 88′, when the Irish took the lead once more (on another poorly-defended set piece) with Sean St. Ledger scoring a dramatic diving header. Giovanni Trapattoni’s men thought they had the game in the bag with their 2-1 lead, but the Italians weren’t done yet, and two minutes into extra time substitute Alberto Gilardino put a slow-rolling ball past Shay Given to seal automatic qualification and send the Azzurri to South Africa next summer.

Bolivia 2-1 Brazil – Well, the Bolivians have slain another Giant. The Seleção needed only a victory in today’s match to cement their place atop the CONMEBOL standings, but Dunga’s men seemed uninterested in pursuing that goal. Instead, they started the game at a jogging pace, wary of the effects that the altitude of La Paz can have on a squad. This slow start backfired though, when the home side took the advantage in the 9th minute on a strike from Edgar Olivares. The atmospheric made possible fantastical long-range strikes, and both teams tested the other with attempts from over 30 yards. On 31′ Marcelo Martins Moreno would, incredibly, double Bolivia’s lead with a swerving strike from 25 yards that Julio Cesar was powerless to stop. In the second half the Brazilians came to life, and Nilmar would halve the home side’s lead on 70′, but the game belonged to the Bolivians. In the end it was the side who have already been eliminated from World Cup qualification that would handily defeat a squad who have long looked like probable World Cup favourites. Good Job, Bolivia!

Fair enough Cesc, fair enough.

Spain 2-1 Armenia – The Spanish had qualified for South Africa long before this weekend – but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t pursue a perfect record in their qualification campaign. Cesc Fàbregas gave his side a first-half lead with a beautifully chipped goal on 33′ – after a long build-up in possession Xavi found the streaking Arsenal man, who beat the keeper with a light touch into the far corner of the net. However, the Armenians were equal to that, and on 57′ Robert Arzumanyan equalized with his head off of a free kick. The Armenians gave a spirited performance – perhaps ultimately too spirited, as Spain’s second goal would come from a spot kick after Juan Mata was clipped in the box by keeper Roman Berezovskiy. Ultimately, not a surprising win for the Spanish – but what was surprising was how hard they had to work to earn it.

Ukraine 1-0 England – Fabio Capello’s England was another national squad looking to continue their perfect qualification record yesterday as they visited Dnipropetrovsk, in the Ukraine. The Three Lions have looked dominant ever since the Italian took over, and suffered only the first defeat of their campaign yesterday. The Ukrainians should have taken the lead on 13′, when Robert Green was sent off for his tackle on Artem Milevsky, but Andriy Shevchenko missed the ensuing spot kick. The home side would take the lead eventually, with a 29th minute long-range strike from Serhiy Nazarenko. Though England started strong, play was interrupted early by flares thrown on the pitch, and the one-two punch of Green’s sending off and Nazarenko’s strike was enough for the Ukrainians to come away with a win. The victory means that the Ukraine will likely progress to the qualification play-offs (at the expense of Croatia), while Capello’s men will have to settle for a less-than-perfect qualification campaign.

France 5-0 Faroe Islands – The French, despite having a far less perfect campaign than the English, managed to achieve a far more positive result yesterday – sealing their play-off spot with a commanding victory at the Stade du Roudourou. To be fair, the Faroe Islands aren’t the most imposing of European competitors, and it was nothing short of expected that the French cruised to an easy victory yesterday. Gignac André-Pierre opened the scoring in the first half with a brace not five minutes apart, and William Gallas, Nicolas Anelka and Karim Benzema would all add their names to the scoresheet in the second. Despite the imbalance in the scoreline, Faroese keeper Jakup Mikkelsen put in a strong performance, and the final result would have been even more lopsided without the heroic efforts he made for his nation. The victory could not stop Serbia from clinching the top spot in Group 7, but nevertheless, Raymond Domenech’s men have ensured that their qualification campaign will not end prematurely with their match against Austria on Wednesday.

Seeding means more of this. Pure evil, I say.

Portugal 3-0 Hungary – Cristiano Ronaldo & Co. have progressed one step closer to a spot in the qualification play-offs with their commanding victory over Hungary yesterday. Portugal have long been underachievers in Group 1, and only recently have begun to look like a squad fit to participate in the World Cup. Portugal took the lead in the 17th minute as Simão buried a rebound after Hungarian keeper Gabor Babos intercepted Cristiano Ronaldo’s low cross but couldn’t hang on to it. Hungary had an opportunity to equalize on 39′, when Balazs Dzsudzsak cut in from the right flank to fire on goal – his low shot missed just wide of the goalpost. Liedson doubled Portugal’s lead on 73′ with a direct header that just barely beat Babos, who punched it away but couldn’t stop it from crossing the goal line. Simão returned just minutes later to bag his brace and seal Hungary’s doom with a classy volley that was borne out of a botched clearance. Portugal needs only defeat Malta on Wednesday to make the play-offs – and with FIFA implementing their new seeding policy for the play-off rounds, it looks like we will surely be seeing Cristiano Ronaldo in World Cup play next year.

Denmark 1-0 Sweden – It was a late goal from Jakob Poulsen which saw Denmark secure their place atop Group 1 and book their spot in South Africa next year. Sweden looked strong coming into the match, with Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic causing all sorts of trouble for the Danish backline – but ultimately the Danes held their ground and Poulsen’s long-range strike on 78′ was enough to see them past the Swedes. Both Thomas Sorensen and Andreas Isaksson looked impressive between the uprights for their respective sides, and prevented the scoreline from being much more dramatic. Sweden will need to beat Albania and Portugal to lose or draw to Malta Wednesday if they are to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Germany 1-0 Russia – Guus Hiddink’s men were looking to usurp Germany at the top of Group 4 yesterday at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The Russians needed a win if they were to have even the opportunity to bypass the play-off round and qualify automatically for South Africa. Despite a hard-fought performance from the Russians, it would be Miroslav Klose’s lone goal on 34′ which ultimately separated the sides. Russia looked at times to be the better and more creative side, with Vladimir Bystrov and Andrei Arshavin creating many chances but ultimately failing to capitalize upon them – heroic efforts from German keeper Rene Adler didn’t help their cause. Jerome Boateng’s sending off on 69′ spelled trouble for Joachim Löw’s men, but they were able to hold off the home side for the last 20 minutes despite being down a man. Yesterday’s victory sees Die Mannschaft seal their position atop Group 4 and book their place via automatic qualification for next year’s World Cup.

Mission accomplished, Didier.

Côte d’Ivoire 1-1 Malawi – Les Éléphants became just the second African side (discluding South Africa) to qualify for the World Cup yesterday via a 1-1 draw with Southeast African side Malawi. Both goals in the match were scored within a brief period in the second half, with Jacob Ngwira giving his side the lead on 64′ and Didier Drogba equalizing on 67′. The Ivorians have reached the second consecutive World Cup in their history due largely to the strength of the Chelsea hitman.

It was the most exciting week of qualifying in two years. Good thing all of it was available on TV.

USA, USA: It was nervy, but the U.S. qualified for the 2010 World Cup, winning 3-2 away at Honduras. Bradley gambled, starting Conor Casey over Jozy Altidore, and it worked. Casey, who looks disturbingly like Brandi’s dad in Mallrats, scored the first two goals. Landon Donovan bent it like his teammate for the third. Honduras could have equalized on a late penalty, but sent it over the bar. We move onward.

Better Late: Portugal won, but it was Simao, not Ronaldo, who was the savior. The 29-year-old scored twice, while his younger, sexier model limped off with an ankle injury after half an hour. 3-0 to Portugal. Thanks to Denmark’s 1-0 win over Sweden, Portugal will be assured a playoff place after a perfunctory midweek win against Malta. Portugal will qualify, but their success historically has only come with an iconic player, Eusebio or Figo. They need Ronaldo to emerge.

Staying Alive: Martin Palermo made Diego Maradona a savant, as he scored two minutes injury time to keep Argentina’s hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Peru, a team they should have beaten 4-0. The Argentines are in fourth. They go through with a draw against Uruguay on Wednesday. They will sort things out afterward.

Franz Triumphant: Miroslav Klose thrust the Mannschaft ahead in Moscow for a 1-0 win, assuring their World Cup qualification. The German team presents a strong argument for structure and organization over agency. To most the Germans are third favorites behind Brazil and Spain. The Premier League and La Liga are the two best leagues in the world. Only one German in the two leagues combined, and that’s Michael Ballack.

Almost: Alberto Gilardino scored a late equalizer, denying Ireland a shock 2-1 win over Italy at Croke Park. Italy qualifies automatically. The Irish secured a playoff place, though seeding should guarantee them a superior opponent.

Die deutsche Nationalmannschaft hat gestern gezeigt das sie auch auf unbekanntem Terrain bestehen kann. Mit einem 0:1 Sieg verließen die Spieler jubelnd den Platz.
Damit dürften alle weiteren Diskussionen über Kunstrasen passé sein.

Torschütze war Miroslav Klose. In der 35. Minute traf der Bayern-Stürmer nach Vorlage von Mesut Özil. Somit ist das Ticket zur WM in Südafrika gesichert.

Löw sprach sogar von “Sieger-Gen” und auch Ballack zeigte sich zufrieden. “Wir waren nervenstark, wir haben an uns geglaubt heute. Wir haben uns nicht hinten rein gestellt. Deswegen haben wir verdient das Ergebnis erzielt, das wir wollten.”

Als einzigen Pechvogel könnte man vielleicht Nationalfrischling Jeromé Boateng bezeichnen. Denn der Hamburger Abwehrspieler wurde nach widerholtem Foulspiel in der 69. Min. mit Gelb-Rot vom Platz geschickt.

Wer regelmäßig diesen Blog liest kennt ja meine Einstellung zu dem Saunaclub Deutsche Nationalmannschaft unter Löw und seinen Sangesbrüdern. Deswegen fällt meine Freude eher gedämpft aus über die heute erreichte Qualifikation für die Weltmeisterschaft. Klar freu ich mich, dass Deutschland dabei ist. Aber ich würd so gern die mafiösen Strukturen innerhalb des DFB-Teams loswerden.

Seis drum, man muss sagen, das war insgesamt eine sehr souveräne Qualifikation, welche die Nationalmannschaft da gespielt hat. Kam glaub ich selten vor in der jüngeren Geschichte, dass sich Deutschland so klar und vorzeitig für ein Turnier qualifiziert hat. Das muss man bei aller Unsympathie neidlos anerkennen.

Ein paar Erkenntnisse in Richtung Südafrika waren heute auch schon zu gewinnen.

- Miroslav Klose kann man ein- und ausschalten. Aber er hat nur einen sehr begrenzten Akku, deswegen wird er nur so einmal im Jahr, oder zu großen Turnieren in Betrieb genommen. Bis zur WM bleibt er deswegen schön im Schrank. Schlecht für Bayern München, aber bei uns hat man halt seinen Schalter noch nicht gefunden, irgendwie Pech.

- Sollten wir im Halbfinale auf das dann in der Zwischenzeit von Guus Hiddink übernommene Gastgeberland Südafrika treffen, ist das Finale gesichert. Die Deutschen kann keine Atmosphäre beeindrucken. Wenn die Jungs aus 74.000 Kehlen Schlachtrufe wie zuletzt vielleicht höchstens an Stalins 50. Geburtstag überstehen, werden sie ein paar Bongos locker wegstecken.

- Zu Mario Gomez torlosen Minuten sind weitere 5 hinzugekommen. Langsam wird´s kritisch.^^

- Wie hieß die Nichte der Schwester der Haushälterin von Hiddinks Großtante, die fast Profi-Fußballerin in Holland wurde? Béla Réthy weiß sowas…

- Rene Adlers Fönfrisur ist selbst unter Dauerbeschuss unkaputtbar. Den kannst also locker reinwerfen bei ner WM.

Ich denke, das waren die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse des heutigen Abends. Die WM kann kommen.

Es ist geschafft! Deutschland hat sich nach einem 1:0-Sieg gegen Russland für die WM 2010 in Südafrika qualifiziert.

Matchwinner war Miro Klose mit seinem Siegtreffer in der 35. Minute. Dem war eine schöne Kombination über Podolski und Özil vorausgegangen.

Vor allem in der ersten Halbzeit hat unsere Elf überzeugt. Taktisch perfekt von Joachim Löw eingestellt fanden die Russen nicht wirklich ein Mittel gegen die kompakte Abwehr. In Halbzeit zwei die Russen dann bärenstark, aber im Abschluss zu harmlos. Man muss echt sagen, die Hiddink-Elf spielt einen sauberen Kombinationsfußball – aber das alles nutzt nichts wenn der Ball nicht rein geht. Kennen wir doch irgendwoher, oder? In Schönheit gestorben oder an Adler gescheitert.

Unglaublich was der Leverkusener alles gehalten hat. Für mich ist er die neue Nummer 1 für die WM. Und warum ihn nicht zum FC Bayern holen? Warum hat man sich bisher so auf Manuel Neuer fokusiert? Adler ist momentan der beste Deutsche Keeper und der muss beim FCB spielen. Unglaubliche Reflexe, gute Strafraumbeherrschung und eine ruhige Ausstrahlung – ich würde eine Verpflichtung begrüßen. Vor allem da er nicht bei Schalke spielt und wir denen somit keine Millionen in den Arsch schieben. Schaun wir mal…

Zu unseren Bayern-Spielern, sehr ordentliche Vorstellung von allen die aufgelaufen sind. Lahm wurde von Löw auf der linken Seite eingesetzt und hatte diese ordentlich im Griff. Nach vorne war das allerdings zu wenig, aber wenn er sich mal in die Offensive gewagt hat wurde es stets gefährlich. Schweinsteiger war in der Anfangsphase einer der besten Spieler, trotz das er in der Offensive von Boateng null Unterstützung bekam. Sehr zweikampfstark – gutes Spiel, bitte weiter so. Klose wie immer mit viel Einsatz und dem wichtigen Tor. War immer wieder auch in der eigenen Hälfte zu finden. In der 89. Minute kam Gomez für ihn der natürlich keine Akzente setzen konnte in den letzten vier Minuten (mit Nachspielzeit).

Aber trotzdem eine ordentliche Leistung von der Deutschen D-Elf gegen die Brasilianischen “Wunderkinder”. Jetzt aber zu schlechteren Nachrichten. Neben Ribery und Robben muss der FCB in den nächsten Wochen wohl auch auf Ivica Olic verzichten. Olic zog sich am Freitag im Training der kroatischen Nationalmannschaft eine Blessur unterhalb des rechten Knies zu. Zudem besteht der Verdacht auf einen Muskelfaserriss. Am Sonntag wird sich der Kroate in München einer genaugen Untersuchung unterziehen. Es drohen bis zu drei Wochen Pause.

Wenigstens bei Ribery kann Entwarnung gegeben werden. “Es ist die gleiche Verletzung, die er in der Vorbereitung schon hatte, eine Entzündung der Patellasehne. Die ist sehr unangenehm, aber ich denke nicht, dass es etwas Langfristiges ist“, so Christian Nerlinger in einem Interview mit der “Passauer Neuen Presse.“ Der Sportdirektor weiter: “Ob ers bis zum Freiburg-Spiel schafft, da steht ein großes Fragezeichen dahinter, und auch fürs Champions-League-Spiel in Bordeaux. Aber danach, so hoffen wir, wird er wieder spielen können.“

Bayern Munich are easily one of the most recognisable names in European football. Yet they are no longer living up to their much heralded reputation and their dominance of the German league is being threatened. One title in three years is not something the Bavarian outfit are used to.

You also have to go back eight years to learn when they last one a European trophy, a penalty shoot out victory against Valencia in the Champions League. In 2007 they even missed out on a place in the tournament because of poor domestic form the previous year. They returned to Europe’s premier club tournament in 2008 and reached the quarter finals, but the true state of their decline only became apparent when they were trounced 5-1 on aggregate by Barcelona. The Klinsmann experiment did not work and you would be hard pressed to find a football pundit who would rank them alongside the top English and Spanish clubs. It appears Bayern have now settled in the second tier of European football, alongside the likes of Porto and AC Milan.

Van Gaal has spent big this summer.

This summer has seen a mini revolution take place in the south of Germany. A new coach and a raft of skilful, but expensive players have arrived at the Allianz Arena. Dutchman Louis Van Gaal has been appointed as head coach, not only to reclaim the Bundesliga, but also to make a serious impression in Europe. Van Gaal has great experience with Barcelona, Ajax and the national team, but his success rates have also varied.

At Ajax there is no doubt. Champions League winners in 1995 and runners up the following year, with a squad assembled from their famous youth academy, brought him about a reputation as one of Europe’s top coaches. His time in Barcelona started well, but his insistence on creating a Dutch clan in Catalonia turned sour and the infamous white handkerchiefs started to spread across the Nou Camp.

Van Gaal has still got a lot to offer football and his experiences at top clubs could be exactly what Bayern need at this time. The fact that he has also been given total autonomy over team matters, something unheard of in Munich, tells us as much as we need to know about the challenge Bayern hope to mount.

Attracting a top coach means also means giving him a huge budget to work with. Nearly £70 million has been outlaid in transfer fees alone, the fourth highest in Europe after Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City. The likes of Arjen Robben (£22 million), Mario Gomez (£27.6 million) and Anatolyi Tymoschuk (£10 million) have all been brought in to raise expectations amongst the Bavarians.

Robben could be the most significant transfer of the summer if he can stay fit for the full season. With Van Gaal’s preferred 4-3-3 formation, he could shine alongside the brilliant Frank Ribery. This is the key to Bayern’s hopes, as when on form, these two can be as good as anybody on the planet. Add in the quality of players such as defender’s Daniel Van Buyten and Holger Badstuber, midfielder’s Marc Van Bommel and Thomas Muller, it becomes clear that Bayern now have a big squad, full of ability, to fight both on the domestic and European front.

Defensively could be their achilles heel, but that was also said of a certain Barcelona treble winning team last year. The key, which Barcelona showed, is to keep possession of the ball and have the ability to score from almost anything. Bayern now have that and more. Gomez, Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose can all compete for the position to finish off the high number of chances they are surely going to be given.

One would suspect May 2010 at the Bernabeu could prove a tad optimistic, but Bayern Munich have got their act together and they may yet threaten the Anglo Spanish dominance in the years to come.

Okay – the title doesn’t really have anything to do with the hip-hop legend. I just thought it sounded cool. However, today many national teams did play another round of qualifiers for World Cup 2010, and so I’ll skirt the issue of hip-hop greats and do a bit of a recap of the results from some of tonight’s games:

Italy 2-0 Bulgaria – Sorry, gotta tend to this one first. Finally, the Azzurri put in a performance worthy of their calibre; taking steps towards both the World Cup and silencing their detractors. With midfield-general Daniele De Rossi back in the squad, Marchisio adding some excellent quality in the midfield, and Andrea Pirlo playing the trequartista role that he once played for the U-21 Azzurrini, the Italia squad finally clicked. The Azzurri went ahead on 10 minutes courtesy of Fabio Grosso on a beautifully chipped pass from Pirlo, and doubled their lead before the half thanks to Vincenzo Iaquinta. Bulgaria, not exactly minnows sitting at 19th in the FIFA World Rankings, should have had a chance to equalize on 26 minutes, but Buffon put Stilian Petrov’s header over the bar with a wonder-save. Italy are one step closer to qualification – but Ireland may prove to be one of their stiffest challenges yet.

Germany 4-0 Azerbaijan – Is anyone surprised? Didn’t think so. To be quite frank, this was little more than a warm-up for Germany in anticipation of their next match against 6th-in-the-world-ranked Russia. That aside, however, this was still an impressive victory for Die Mannschaft – who tore apart the low-intensity Azerbaijan defense despite the oft-incredible effort from goalie Kamran Arhayev. The keeper did well to stop many dangerous attempts on goal, including particularly potent ones from Mario Gomez and Bastian Schweinsteiger. However, Arhayev could not hold off the Teutons alone, and the Germans opened the scoring with a penalty after Lucas Podolski was dragged down in the box, and which captain Michael Ballack clinically dispatched. Miroslav Klose bagged a brace, and Lucas Podolski, despite being somewhat out of form tonight, grabbed a goal of his own. The Germans are looking quite convincing, but, like Italia, they still have one very stiff challenge yet to face. Bring on the Motherland.

Spain 3-0 Estonia - Even those surprised by Germany’s victory surely cannot be surprised by this result. While La Furia Roja didn’t match the numbers they put up against Belgium last weekend – thanks to a spirited match on the part of the visiting side – they cruised for much of the game after Cesc Fabregas put them ahead on the half-hour mark. Estonia’s best chance to equalize came as Martin Vunk hit the post in the 72nd minute. However, it was not to be for the underdogs – Santi Cazorla and Juan Mata scored a goal apiece late in the second half to seal Estonia’s fate and Spain’s World Cup Qualification. A night of surprises, this…

England 5-1 Croatia – The English were another side to polish off a flawless qualification campaign this evening, doing so in style as they handily defeated Croatia 5-1 at home in Wembley Stadium. The Three Lions got off to a bit of a messy start until Aaron Lennon was hauled down in the box (sound familiar?) and Frank Lampard slotted the spot kick home. Steven Gerrard managed to double the lead soon after, and though Croatia fought back hard, it was England running the show and the Croats running themselves ragged by halftime. After the half England seemed content to play the counter-attack, which almost resulted in a goal off the head of the marauding Eduardo, but ultimately produced another Lampard goal off of some nice running play by Glen Johnson. Lennon was absolutely class tonight, with his off-the-ball pressuring producing a mistake from left-back Daniel Pranjic, off of which Stevie G capitalized to make it 4-0. Croatia finally got a bit of vengeance late in the second after Eduardo blasted a close-range shot (after two rebounds) into the roof of the England net. It would be England though, who would ultimately have the last laugh, with Wayne Rooney coolly slotting one home to send his nation to South Africa and Croatia home with their tails between their legs.

France 1-1 Serbia – What can I say about Les Bleus? France went a man down after only 9 minutes, when keeper Hugo Lloris was given his marching orders after being adjudged to have taken down Milan Jovanovic in the box. Raymond Domenech, perhaps unfortunate here but looking increasingly inept, was forced to shuffle his squad frantically as France went down a man and a goal after Milijas converted the spot kick. The French still looked strong though, making quite a game out of it, and after 31 minutes Thierry Henry equalized for Les Bleus. Both sides would strive to leave the game with all three points in hand, but neither would succeed (despite the man-advantage being equalized late in the game through a straight red for Lazovic). France will have to settle for a singular point and the knowledge that as Serbia now sits four points ahead of them in their group, there is a good chance that Les Bleus will be participating in a dreaded playoff.

Portugal 1-0 Hungary – The Selecção das Quinas have breathed some life back into their World Cup dreams after a Pepe header gave them an away win in Hungary. They still trail both Sweden and group leaders Denmark, but the positive result is at least a ray of hope for the Portugese after their disappointing last match – a 1-1 draw with the Danes. Portugal may yet reach the World Cup, though I will be among those cheering on their Scandinavian opponents.

Paraguay 1-0 Argentina – Diego, it is time to go. Paraguay see their qualification dreams become a reality as Argentina see theirs fade through the failings of their fearless (and hapless) leader. Lionel Messi was once again the only threat from the Albicelestes, though he cannot qualify for the World Cup by himself, much less win it. The Paraguayan defense did an excellent job of overpowering the tiny forward, though he still produced the only clear chance of the game for his side. Argentina’s frustration clearly showed through, as Juan Sebastian Veron was sent off for a pair of nasty and violent tackles and the side seemed to be out of ideas all over the pitch. Speaking of all over, if his team continues to perform in this fashion, one can only imagine that Diego Maradona’s coaching career will be just that – I think that it soon will be all over for Diego, at least at the helm of his nation.

Slovenia 3-0 Poland – Unfortunately for the Poles, this result means that their nation has most probably missed out on next year’s World Cup, after successive qualifications for Germany 2006 and Austria/Switzerland 2008. The win ties Slovenia for second place with Northern Ireland, five points behind closely named (but vastly different, I’m sure) Slovakia, and three ahead of Poland, who sit in 5th place. The home side went up three goals at home in the The Ljudski Vrt Stadium, with Zlatko Dedic, Milovoje Novakovic, and Valter Birsa finding the back of the net for their nation.

Mein lieber Herr Gesangsverein, es ist gar nicht so einfach die richtigen Worte zu finden und die Ruhe zu behalten. Eins steht fest, die Hütte brennt – und dies in so ziemlich jeder erdenklichen Ecke.

Angefangen natürlich beim Auftreten unserer Mannschaft. Die erste Halbzeit ist mit den Worten Frechheit, lächerlich, peinlich und/oder Schande noch ziemlich harmlos umschrieben. Diese Mannschaft war toter als tot, da war keinerlei Laufbereitschaft, man ist in die Zweikämpfe gegangen wie kleine Mädchen und hat sich in manchen Szenen von den Mainzern regelrecht vorführen lassen. Da das – bei allem Respekt – nur Mainz war, muss man diese erste Halbzeit zweifelsohne zu den schlechtesten Halbzeiten der Vereinsgeschichte einordnen. Und dafür gibt es nicht den Hauch einer Entschuldigung.

Exemplarisch sicherlich das 2:0 durch Bance. Da lassen wir uns an der Außenlinie wie eine Schülermannschaft düpieren, Klose (der da hinten natürlich auch eigentlich nichts verloren hat) unternimmt nicht einmal den Versuch die Flanke zu verhindern, der Ball ist 2 Minuten lang in der Luft, aber van Buyten (seines Zeichens 3,56 m groß) segelt trotzdem unter dem Ball her und Bance braucht nur noch mit einer Nick-Bewegung guten Tag sagen und die Murmel zappelt folgerichtig im Netz. Jungs, meiner E-Jugend hätte ich seinerzeit den Kopf abgebissen, wenn wir so ein Tor kassiert hätten. Und die haben für ne koffeinfreie Cola und nen Lolli gespielt. Unfassbar. Vor allem nachdem in den Minuten zuvor Bance schon zwei, dreimal völlig unbedrängt zum Abschluss kam. Man hat ihn förmlich angebettelt sein Tor zu machen.

Die zweite Halbzeit war dann nach dieser desaströsen ersten Hälfte nicht mehr als das Mindeste was man erwarten kann, nachdem man 45 Minuten lang das Bayerntrikot entehrt hat. Deswegen werde ich sicher nicht den vergebenen Chancen hinterhertrauern. Auch wenn ich gestern bis zur letzten Sekunde um den Ausgleich gezittert habe, mit einem Tag Abstand muss ich nach dieser ersten Hälfte sagen, ist es besser so, dass der nicht gefallen ist. Das was diese Woche auf die Spieler zukommt haben sie mehr als verdient. Punkt!

Allerdings sollte sich jeder einzelne Bayernfan jetzt fragen, wie er mit dieser Situation umzugehen gedenkt. Wir sind spätestens seit Klinsmann in einer unerträglichen Phase der Selbstzerfleischung angekommen, die im Moment zweifelsfrei einen ihrer Höhepunkte erlebt. Es geistern schon seit geraumer Zeit die Begriffe von “echten Fans” und “Erfolgsfans” rum. Das bringt seit je her einiges an Konfliktpotenzial mit sich, allein deshalb, weil es sicherlich schwer ist die Dinge so in schwarz und weiß zu klassifizieren, während ohne Zweifel auch einiges an Grauzonen existiert.

Allerdings ist eines nicht wegzudiskutieren, nämlich das es diese Erfolgsfans bei uns gibt und das zu Hauf, Grauzonen hin oder her. Und die bringen jetzt natürlich mal so richtig Unruhe rein. Irgendwie paradox, dass solange der Erfolg da ist, sich keine Sau für diese Leute und deren “Meinung” (welche meist nur aus wüsten Beleidigungen eigener Spieler und völlig überzogener Transferwünschen besteht) interessiert, sobald der Erfolg weg bleibt aber diese Erfolgsfans ihr unverdientes Forum erhalten ihren Müll öffentlichkeitswirksam abzusondern. Erfolgsfans werden also erst mit dem Mißerfolg irgendwie halbwegs relevant, irgendwie bemerkenswert.

Wie dem auch sei, wir stehen nicht nur sportlich an einem Scheidepunkt. Jeder einzelne muss sich jetzt fragen, wie er mit dieser Situation umzugehen gedenkt. Wild auf die Mannschaft einzukloppen, den Vorstand in die Wüste schicken wollen, ständig nach internationalen Topstars schreien…tja, mit dieser Einstellung spielen wir allen Fans anderer Vereine sowas von in die Karten, die immer behauptet haben, wir hätten keine echten Fans. Ein geschätzter Kollege hat dazu folgendes geschrieben:

Wir erleben derzeit eine recht miese Phase beim FC Bayern, langfristig die Machtära Rummenigge, kurzfristig ein paar nicht gewonnene Spiele und schwache Leistungen, aber ich würde es begrüßen, wenn man nicht bei jedem Gegentor den Untergang des Abendlandes heraufbeschwören würde. Sowas hab ich bisher sonst nur in Schalke-Foren gesehen, es wäre angenehm zu beobachten, wenn Bayern-Fans in schlechten Zeiten etwas mehr Würde zu zeigen in der Lage wären. Stattdessen bringen es jene, die nicht in Selbstmitleid versinken und offenbar Mühe haben, ihr armes Bayernherz am Brechen zu hindern, gerade mal soweit, Rundumschläge gegen Trainer und Spieler zu verteilen.

Das gilt wie gesagt natürlich nur für diese Schaumschläger, die in guten Zeiten eh keiner ernst nimmt, sie sich selbst ja auch nicht. Der harte Kern ist natürlich nach wie vor vorhanden, der die Dinge realistisch, aber mit absoluter Vereinsliebe sieht. Dennoch muss man mit Erschrecken feststellen, diese Erfolgsfans kriegen grad ganz schön Gehör und das kratzt natürlich an unser aller Image, mit solchen Idioten verwechselt zu werden.

Wie geht´s weiter? Sportlich steht das erstmal ein wenig in den Sternen würde ich sagen. Die Mannschaft hatte schon letztes Jahr so einige Charaktertests nicht bestanden. Da rechnete man immer und immer wieder mit der typischen Bayern-Mentalität, nach ein oder zwei schlechten Spielen eine absolute Reaktion zu zeigen. Und man wurde immer wieder enttäuscht. Für das Spiel gegen Wolfsburg erwarte ich trotzdem wieder diese Reaktion. Es muss der Mannschaft klar sein, was es bedeutet unser Trikot tragen zu dürfen. Ein Ottmar Hitzfeld konnte dies den Spielern wie kein Zweiter vermitteln. Ich hoffe, Louis van Gaal ist dazu auch in der Lage. Denn das ist jetzt das allerwichtigste, dass die Mannschaft endlich Eier zeigt und solche Fights abliefert, dass kein normal denkender Fan irgendwie unzufrieden sein kann. Es muss ganz klar ein Signal von der Mannschaft ausgehen, dass sie die Zeichen der Zeit verstanden haben und dass sie gewillt sind um ihr Leben zu rennen. Das ist das Mindeste was ich von den Spielern jetzt erwarte in den nächsten Wochen.

Wie geht´s sonst weiter? Wenn man sich Rummenigge und Hoeneß so angeguckt hat während und nach dem Spiel in Mainz, so könnte man durchaus auf die Idee kommen, sie werden nochmal aktiv auf dem Transfermarkt. Die Gesichtsausdrücke kenn ich doch, die werden glaub ich heute ziemlich angestrengt diskutieren. Man kann nur beten, dass es nicht van der Vaart wird. Das wäre in meinen Augen der endgültige Todesstoß für eine Mannschaft, die offensichtlich jetzt schon das ein oder andere Charakterproblem hat. An Kreativen ist sonst nur noch Sneijder auf dem Markt, sollte es stimmen, dass es mit Inter noch nicht perfekt ist.

Meiner Meinung nach hakt es aber gar nicht vor allem im kreativen Bereich. Klingt vielleicht erstaunlich, nachdem uns drei Spiele lang nach vorne so gut wie nix eingefallen ist. In meinen Augen ist es aber eher wichtig, die Defensive zu stärken. Wenn die steht, dann kommen die anderen Dinge fast von allein. Es ist nicht zu übersehen, dass Lahm auf der rechten Seite nicht ansatzweise das zu leisten im Stande ist, was er links leisten kann. Somit wäre mein Wunschtransfer wenn dann immer noch ein rechter Verteidiger, der diesen Namen auch verdient, so dass Lahm wieder auf links rücken kann. Und in der Innenverteidigung hat van Buyten gestern leider mal wieder bewiesen, dass er zwar eine gute Ergänzung ist, aber wahrlich kein Abwehrchef. Das sind in meinen Augen die Baustellen Nummer eins.

Aber auch diese Mannschaft jetzt ist zweifelsfrei stark genug. Kann mir ja keiner erzählen, wir wären zu schwach besetzt um zum Beispiel in Mainz zu gewinnen. Jetzt noch panikartig irgendwen zu verpflichten, würde demnach nicht ansatzweise das eigentliche Problem lösen. Welches vor allem in der Verunsicherung der Spieler zu suchen ist. So erklären sich die ganzen Alibi-Pässe, Rückpässe, die wenige Laufbereitschaft und all das an was es unserem Spiel krankt. Dies zu lösen ist sicherlich Aufgabe des Trainers. Aber das ist eine verdammt schwere Aufgabe. Schließlich muss er ein ganzes Jahr aus den Köpfen rausbekommen, in welchem Klinsmann die Spieler komplett verrückt gemacht und ihnen jegliches Selbstvertrauen genommen hat. Zur Erinnerung, Klinsmann übernahm einen Kader von Hitzfeld, welcher vor Selbstvertrauen nur so strotzte. Er hat es innerhalb weniger Monate geschafft, dass die meisten Spieler nur noch ein Schatten ihrer selbst und ihrer in der Vergangenheit häufig gezeigten Leistungen sind. Und es ist nunmal normal, dass es nur sehr kurze Zeit braucht, etwas mit dem Arsch einzureißen, aber sehr lange, um es mit den Händen wieder aufzubauen.

Wir stehen am Scheidepunkt, in mehrfacher Hinsicht. Aber eines muss mehr als deutlich sein: FCB bis zum letzten Atemzug!! Und cool bleiben, Freunde. Jetzt durchzudrehen ist das einfachste, aber es zeugt nur von Schwäche. Wir müssen jetzt alle gemeinsam den Karren aus dem Dreck ziehen und an einem Strang ziehen. Wie es mein Mentor 2Pac einst sagte: Kriege kommen und gehen, aber unsere Soldaten stehen ewig!

… o el resumen de la jornada mundialista del 12 de Agosto.

• Zona UEFA: desigualdades.

La variedad de calendarios existente en Europa propicia que jugar en fechas como ésta pueda resultar perjudicial para un equipo. Que se lo pregunten a Escocia, dónde todavía no han empezado la temporada y les ha tocado jugar ante Noruega, dónde la Tippeligaen empezó en marzo. ¿Consecuencia? Noruega ha arrasado por 4-0 a los británicos en el partido correspondiente al grupo 9, donde la única opción para ir al Mundial pasa por ser primera de grupo… y ese puesto ya lo ha asegurado Holanda. Ahora ambas lucharán con Macedonia (buena imagen ante España hoy)  por la segunda plaza que pueda darles acceso a la repesca, aunque todo apunta a que sería el peor de los nueve segundos de grupo, el único que no tendrá plaza en la misma.

No les ha afectado tanto a Francia y Alemania. Los galos vencieron a domicilio a las Islas Feroe por 0-1, con gol del genial jugador del Tolouse Gignac. Muy mal partido de los de Domenech (cuanto tiempo hace que ya sobra en esta selección…) que hicieron lo justo para vencer a la selección más débil de su grupo. Tres cuartos de lo mismo para la Mannschaft que ganó por 0-2 a Azerbaijan con goles de Bastian Schwensteiger y Miro Klose. Ambas dejan encarrilado su pase y se deberían jugar el primer puesto de grupo ante sus rivales más fuertes (Serbia y Rusia) en septiembre .Quién sabe lo que podría haber pasado de haber tenido la mala suerte de los escoceses… y más con la liga rusa (ya entre las mejores de Europa) en la mitad.

• Zona CONCACAF: querías emoción?

La sexta jornada del Hexagonal de la CONCACAF ha dejado algo bien clarito: ésto se va a decidir en la última jornada. Con las derrotas de los 3 favoritos en los partidos de esta jornada, practicamente se han dilucidado quienes serán los 4 que lucharán por 3 plazas en el Mundial más una en la repesca. Pero vamos por partes.

El partido más atractivo, y que abría la jornada, lo podíamos disfrutar en el mítico Estadio Azteca, fotín de la selección. Se disputaba el clásico de la zona: México-USA. Con el último precedente (5-0 para los verdes en la final de la Gold Cup) todavía fresco en la memoria de las aficciones, México estaba obligado a ganar para no decir adiós a la mayoría de sus opciones de estar en Sudáfrica el próximo verano. Y la tricolor cumplió; sin brillo y agónicamente, pero cumplió. Con 1-1 en el marcador (abrió Davies para los yanquis, empató con un golazo Israel Castro) y a falta de 8 minutos para el final, Efraín Juárez se marcó un jugadón entre la defensa americana y, con un pase atrás superando al muro Onyewu, el balón le quedó en el borde del área pequeña a Miguel Sabah que fusiló a Tim Howard. Victoria importantísima para los de Aguirre.

Sabiendo este resultado, se jugaron los otros dos partidos de la liguilla. El Salvador se encotraba con una gran oportunidad de engancharse a la lucha por una plaza en su visita al colista Trinidad y Tobago. Sin embargo, la desapovecharon y los trinitenses vencieron con un solitario gol de Cornell Glen a poco de empezar el partido. De este modo, ambos quedan rezagados con 5 puntos, por 9 de México que ocupa la 4ª plaza que da opción a la repesca.

El otro que desperdició una oportunidad de oro, en este caso para dejar amarrado su pase al Mundial era Costa Rica. Pero la sorpresa del grupo, Honduras, imbatido en casa en toda la fase de clasificación, les barrió y bien barridos. 4-0, que pudieron ser más si el árbitro no hubiese tenido una actuación tan lamentable. Los Ticos siguen teniendo una buena ventaja, pero no pueden volver a despistarse si no quieren sufrir más de la cuenta.

La clasificación sigue liderada por Costa Rica con 12 puntos. En puesto de acceso directo están también Honduras y Estado Unidos con 10. Puesto de repesca para México con 9 y, casi sin opciones, El Salvador y Trinidad y Tobago con 5 puntos. Todo puede pasar todavía en este emocionante grupo.

Am Freitag geht es wieder los. Mit dem Auftaktspiel des VFL Wolfsburg gegen den VFB Stuttgart startet die Bundesliga in die Saison 2009/10. Wir Bayernfans müssen uns noch bis morgen Abend gedulden, dann geht es auch für uns los mit dem Spiel in Sinsheim (Rhein-Neckar-Arena) gegen Hoffenheim.

Ungewöhnlich ist dabei die Anstoßzeit: Der FC Bayern wird erstmals das Topspiel am Samstag Abend um 18.30 Uhr austragen. Eine Maßnahme die dem Pay-TV (Sky und Liga total) mehr Attraktivität und Exklusivität bringen soll. Über den Sinn und Unsinn kann man diskutieren, fest steht wer kein Sky/Liga total hat muss sich bis 22 Uhr gedulden. Dann wird ihm Rahmen des “Aktuellen Sportstudio”  (ZDF) erstmals im Free-TV eine Zusammenfassung gezeigt. Zu den neuen Anstoßzeiten könnte ich mich noch seitenlang äußern, lass es aber da das den Rahmen hier sprengen würde und nicht ganz jugendfrei wäre.

Kommen wir zur Personalsituation vor dem Kracher-Auftakt. Beide Vereine haben ihre Probleme. Kommen wir erstmal zum Gegner der TSG “wir haben so viel Tradition” Hoffenheim. Der Aufsteiger hat mit 16 Mio Euro fast das meiste Geld in Neuzugänge investiert und wird nur übertroffen durch den FC Bayern (50 Mio) und Wolfsburg (22 Mio). Und da spricht man noch von einem fairen Wettbewerb. Welcher Aufsteiger kann im zweiten Jahr Bundesliga gleich so viele Millionen raushauen ohne in einem internationalen Wettbewerb zu stehen? Wettbewerbsverzerrung durch Hopps Millionen ist das für mich. Aber auch das soll jetzt nicht das Thema sein.

Also: Trainer Ralf Rangnick muss auf Tobias Weis (Knieprobleme), Demba Ba (Trainingsrückstand), Prince Tagoe (Grippe) und Matthias Jaissle (Reha) verzichten. Fraglich ist zudem der Einsatz von Luiz Gustavo (Sprunggelenkprobleme) und Franco Zuculini (Trainingsrückstand).

Beim FC Bayern sieht die Personalsituation nicht minder angespannt aus.

Seit Mittwochnachmittag hat Louis van Gaal eine Sorgenfalte mehr auf der Stirn, denn mit Martin Demichelis fällt einer seiner vier Innenverteidiger über einen längeren Zeitraum aus. Demichelis hatte sich bei einem Zweikampf im Training einen Bänderriss im rechten Sprunggelenk zugezogen. Das zieht eine Zwangspause von sechs bis sieben Wochen nach sich.

Vom Vorhaben, gegen Hoffenheim dieselbe Mannschaft auflaufen zu lassen wie im Pokalspiel gegen Neckarelz, muss van Gaal also auf jeden Fall abrücken. Damit jedoch nicht genug, mit Ribery, Klose und Toni fallen weitere wichtige Spieler aus.

Franck Ribery war nach wochenlangen Problemen an der Patellasehne am Mittwoch ins Mannschaftstraining zurückgekehrt. Heute hatte van Gaal verlauten lassen, der Franzose haben zwar gut trainiert, „aber zwei Trainingseinheiten reichen nicht aus, um ihn in die Mannschaft zu integrieren.“ Er wird also nicht zu Kader gehören – jedoch trotzdem auf Reisen sein. Van Gaal gab ihm sein Einverständnis, dass er zum Treffpunkt der französischen Nationalmannschaft reisen darf („Wir haben vereinbart, dass eine Luftveränderung für ihn vielleicht sehr gut ist”). Die Franzosen bestreiten am Mittwoch gegen die Faröer Inseln ein WM-Qualifikationsspiel. Ribery wird aber auch dort nicht auflaufen, sondern ein Trainingsprogramm absolvieren: Van Gaal: „Wir haben ihm ein Programm mitgegeben. Für uns ist es wichtig, dass er aufgebaut wird. Das habe ich mit Domenech vereinbart.“ Wäre auch schwer zu erklären gewesen, wenn Ribery gegen Hoffenheim nicht aufläuft und dafür mit Frankreich in einem unwichtigen Quali-Spiel gegen die Faröer Inseln.

Die zweite Extrawurst erhält Luca Toni – der hat bereits am Donnerstag die Reise nach Italien angetreten. “Ich habe ihm ein bisschen Luft gegeben und er kann nach Italien fahren. Vielleicht kann er neue Motivation finden“, so van Gaal. Der Italiener leidet immer noch unter Achillessehnenproblemen und wird in Italien noch den Rat eines weiteren Arztes einholen. Seit der Rückkehr aus dem verlängerten Confed-Cup-Urlaub hat Toni noch kein einziges Mal mit der Mannschaft trainiert. Also keine guten Perspektiven für den 32-Jährigen. Gomez, Klose, Müller und Olic sind ihm um Weiten voraus.

Kommen wir zum vierten Ausfall: Miroslav Klose wird wegen einer Knochenhautentzündung ebenfalls nicht zum Kader gehören. Er fällt aber wohl nur für das Hoffenheim-Spiel aus.

Bis Samstag Abend könnte noch ein fünfter Ausfall hinzukommen: Bei Jose Ernesto Sosa (Sprunggelenksprellung) will van Gaal noch abwarten. Möglich das auch der Argentinier ausfällt.

Die Aufstellung: Was ergibt sich daraus? Es fehlen Spieler die van Gaal fest für seine Stammformation im 4-4-2 mit Raute eingeplant hatte.

Im Tor bleibt es, wie van Gaal betont hat, bei Michael Rensing. Höchstens van Gaal sorgt noch für eine faustdicke Überraschung.

Rechts spielt Philipp Lahm, den rechten Innenverteidiger gibt der neue Abwehrchef van Buyten. Badstuber dürfte für Demichelis auflaufen, nach dem “Micho” beim Pokalspiel gegen Neckarelz überraschend den Vorzug vor dem Nachwuchstalent erhalten hatte. Nach den Eindrücken der Vorbereitung hatte alles auf Badstuber hingedeutet. Doch jetzt hat er ja die Chance zu zeigen was er kann – ich bin gespannt auf ihn. Weiter geht es, links wird Danijel Pranjic auflaufen, auch wenn ich ihn für zu offensiv eingestellt halte für das Spiel gegen Hoffenheim. Braafheid ist aber momentan noch nicht die richtige Verstärkung.

Im Mittelfeld wird der neue alte Kapitän van Bommel die defensive Position vor der Abwehr bekleiden. Rechts wird Altintop auflaufen, links Schweinsteiger. Die Spielmacherposition wird wohl wieder Thomas Müller ausfüllen. Viel andere Möglichkeiten bleiben auch nicht.

Mit Müller als Spielmacher stellt sich der Sturm auch von selber auf. Es bleiben nur Mario Gomez und Ivica Olic.

Da Olic noch erheblich Trainingsrückstand hat, wäre für mich weiter denkbar das Baumjohann den “10er” gibt und Müller im Sturm aufläuft.

Wir werden sehen. Jetzt freu ich mich total auf unser Spiel gegen Hoffenheim. Endlich geht es wieder los! Auf gehts Bayern! Es gilt mit einem Sieg in die neue Saison zu starten.

Das er ein Weltmeister der Unzufriedenheit wäre behauptet zumindest Gottmar Hitzfeld. Selbst wenn ich anderer Meinung wäre, was ich nicht bin, ich würde dem Trainergott auf keinen Fall widersprechen. Er muss es ja auch genau wissen, schließlich hat er ein Jahr lang mit dem Ohrschrauber gearbeitet. Und wenn der in dieser für ihn so erfolgreichen Saison damals schon unzufrieden mit irgendwas war, dann gute Nacht für dieses Jahr.

Denn Luca Toni wird einen verdammt schweren Stand haben und ist im Moment in meinen Augen klar die Nummer 5 im Sturm, hinter Gomez, Klose, Müller und Olic, in selbiger Reihenfolge. Solange Mario Gomez fit ist, wird er eh kaum spielen, da ich mir Toni zusammen mit Gomez so gar nicht vorstellen kann, die würden sich ziemlich auf den Füßen stehen. Von daher ist Luca Toni der Platz auf der Ersatzbank so gut wie sicher.

Für ihn sicher kein Beinbruch. Unsere Bosse haben ihm schließlich einen Vertrag unter die Nase gehalten, als er zu uns gekommen ist, der die reinste Altersvorsorge ist. Vier volle Jahre zu fürstlichsten Bezügen und das in seinem damals schon nicht mehr so frischen Alter. Riester deluxe kann man sagen. Die 10 Millionen im Jahr werden sicherlich das schmerzende Sitzfleisch schnell heilen. Nur ob er um seinen Platz bereit ist zu kämpfen wage ich zu bezweifeln. Ich spreche ihm irgendwie die Mentalität dazu ab, lasse mich aber natürlich gern eines besseren belehren.

Schaun mer mal was das gibt. Jedenfalls ist für mich eindeutig, dass die beiden Stareinkäufe von vorletzter Saison, nämlich Ribery und Toni, in der jetzigen Mannschaft die größten Gefahrenherde für die Harmonie sind. Babytime is over, jetzt ist van Gaal da und braucht Männer.

Liechtenstein und Wales sind die nächsten Gegner für die deutsche Nationalmannschaft auf dem Weg zur WM 2010.

Zunächst spielt man am heutigen Samstag in Leipzig gegen Liechtenstein, am Mittwoch erwartet die walisische Auswahl den Vize-Europameister in Cardiff. Ohne Neulinge, aber dafür mit einigen angeschlagenen Spielern geht Bundestrainer Joachim Löw den beiden Partien entgegen.
Vor allem Miroslav Klose, der wegen eines Sehnenrisses verletzt ausfällt, fehlt der deutschen Elf. René Adler ist zwar zum Treffen der Nationalspieler gereist, wird aber aller Voraussicht nach nicht spielen können. Auch Arne Friedrich und Torsten Frings stehen nicht zur Verfügung.

Die Frage nach dem Sieger des Spiels stellt sich aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach nicht, Deutschland ist der haushohe Favorit. Zwar wird Liechtenstein mit läuferischem und kämpferischem Aufwand versuchen, möglichst lange ein Unentschieden zu halten und vielleicht den ein oder anderen Konter zu setzen, aber das qualitativ bessere Spiel werden sicherlich die Deutschen betreiben.
Spätestens ab der 70. Minute wird die DFB-Auswahl die Liechtensteiner nach Belieben dominieren, denn maximal bis dahin reicht die Kondition beim Gegner.

Ich gehe von folgender Aufstellung aus:

• Tor: Robert Enke. Adler fällt aus und Tim Wiese ist ohnehin nur Ersatz.
• Abwehr: Philipp Lahm, Per Mertesacker, Serdar Tasci, Andreas Hinkel. Heiko Westermann ist ein weiterer Kandidat für die erste Elf. Andreas Beck und Marcel Schäfer werden eventuell eingewechselt, wenn ein ungefährdeter Sieg bevorsteht.
• Mittelfeld: Marcell Jansen, Michael Ballack, Simon Rolfes, Bastian Schweinsteiger. Ich vermute, der in Hamburg langsam aufblühende Jansen wird seine Chance erhalten (Randbemerkung: erst beim HSV wurde bei ihm eine Laktose- und Getreideallergie festgestellt, die ihn während seiner Zeit beim FC Bayern natürlich extrem schwächte – Klinsmanns Trainerstab war also entweder ungenau oder verließ sich auf alte Hitzfeld-Daten). Thomas Hitzlsperger wird eingewechselt werden, um Ballack oder Rolfes zu schonen. Piotr Trochowski und Marko Marin bekommen vielleicht eine Chance als Einwechselspieler.
• Sturm: Mario Gomez, Lukas Podolski. Die Entscheidung für Gomez sehe ich als relativ eindeutig, er ist der beste Stürmer des Kaders, er agiert sowohl als Strafraumspieler als auch aus dem Mittelfeld kommend ausgezeichnet. In der Nationalmannschaft konnte er seine Qualität noch nicht wirklich beweisen, aber Löw wird an ihm festhalten und ihm hier und heute eine weitere Möglichkeit geben. Warum Podolski und nicht Helmes oder Kießling? Podolski kommt aus dem Spiel und geht mit Zug in den Strafraum. Einen solchen Spieler braucht es gegen eine liechtensteinische Abwehr, die versuchen wird, alle Deutschen möglichst konsequent in die Manndeckung zu nehmen. Podolskis Antritte werden Räume und damit Chancen schaffen. Möglicherweise wird Patrick Helmes eingewechselt, Stefan Kießling wird wahrscheinlich pausieren – er musste unter der Woche eine Trainingseinheit abbrechen, ich rechne bei ihm mit einem Einsatz gegen Wales.
• Zusammengefasst: Enke – Lahm, Mertesacker, Tasci, Hinkel – Jansen, Ballack, Rolfes, Schweinsteiger – Gomez, Podolski

Tak jak wcześniej pisaliśmy, ciąg dalszy weekendu w Monachium, po śniadaniu i piwku w Augustinerze, najstarszym browarze w Monachium, ruszyliśmy na Allianz Arene

Dróg wokół stadionu było chyba więcej niż na autostradzie z Katowic do Krakowa i odwrotnie . Ale… wydawał się nam większy , stadion mimo tego, że jest mega nowoczesny, zewnątrz prezentuje się wspaniale, to w środku wygląda na bardzo mały. Trybuny są strasznie zbite, i ma się wrażenie, że stadion Śląski w Chorzowie jest większy, autaj podczas meczu Bayernu czy TSV, siada jednak 69, 901 tys ludzi !!!

Niemcy podobno budowali ten stadion trzy lata, ale jakoś przy tempie w jakim budowano u nas ostatnią stację metra w Warszawie (25 lat) jestem pewien, że podobny technicznie stadion powstanie u nas nie w 2012 roku, lecz 2022 roku (maybe)
