With his new website, designer Roberto Cavalli has just reveiled his first online store, which is transactional in 46 countries across Europe, the US and Asia.

Cavalli partners with global Internet retailing site for leading fashion & design brands Yoox Group, which has established itself amongst the market leaders with the Multi-brand stores yoox.com and thecorner.com as well as with numerous Mono-brand stores all “Powered by YOOX Group.”

The title of this blog is “Poor and the City” and I didn’t pick that title for no good reason.  I wasn’t just trying to play on a popular sitcom.  I really am poor and in the city.  I really am a real person trying to make it in this city.  They say the proof is in the pudding, well here’s a helping of pudding for you:  my boyfriend was laid off today.

I believe there are two kinds of people in this city:  those who are handed everything and those who are working to earn everything themselves.  I am the latter.  I don’t write about how broke I am and then spend $200+ on UGG boots, I don’t say that I am eating a homemade meal and then go out to dinner, and when I say I am a real poor person, I don’t then whip out my Black Amex Card.  I work for everything I have and right now, I have very little.

I am the girl that goes to a potluck Thanksgiving because it’s cheaper than hosting my own.  I am the girl that keeps trying to fix my TV set so I don’t have to buy a new one.  And I am the girl that goes outlet shopping and sticks to a budget, only to find out that her boyfriend lost his job and so any spending will put us in the red.

Some people look down on me and my boyfriend.  A struggle like ours is something they would never want.  The idea of living paycheck to paycheck makes them sick and the idea of sharing a studio apartment with some one makes them cringe.  Two people living in one room is tough and putting all of the money you earned towards bills is heartbreaking.   But this is my life, this is my reality and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Perhaps I struggle more than most of the residents of Williamsburg and the Village.  Perhaps I don’t have the luxury of not needing a 9-5 job so I can put all of my energy into making a documentary on an artist I love.  Perhaps I don’t have the money to eat at the Mercer Kitchen or shop in Miss Sixty.  But these people are not living a real life.  And when they look back on their many accomplishments, how much of it will they have earned themselves?  And when I get out of the red and get out of the 1 room apartment, I’ll have done it all myself and I will have worked my way up.  I will have earned everything myself.

So whenever you feel like your credit card bills will never go down, you will never find a new job or you will never pay off that student loan:  hold your chin up.  You will get there.  It won’t be easy, it will be a struggle but that will make the payoff all the more sweeter.  It’s not about the fall, it’s about how you get up after you fall.

And if you’re having a hard time in this economy, think of me.  Because I am a real person, and this holiday season, I’m right there with you.

Se han escrito libros acerca de ellos, el tema son los “zapatos” y el interrogante de muchos es ¿Cual es la causa de esta fascinación que hombres y mujeres de nuestra cultura, desarrollaron por los zapatos?

Desde mi opinión, los zapatos nos estilizan, nos posicionan en la elegancia y marcan la diferencia entre hombres y mujeres en una sociedad que actualmente, de muchas maneras, busca la igualdad.

Como el vestido, los zapatos son para la mujer la máxima expresión de feminidad, pero a diferencia de el, los zapatos no son tan exigentes respecto de quien los calza, pues no hace falta tener un físico adecuado. “No importa cuanto comamos… siempre hay un par de zapatos dispuestos a enamorarnos, que nos quedara bien y nos hará sentir reinas, sin juzgar cuanto pesamos”

En las últimas décadas, la industria del calzado perfecciono sus tácticas de marketing hábilmente, presentándonos estos objetos como verdaderas obras de arte, que de esta forma se cotizan, creando en nosotras, las mujeres, mayor deseo de poseerlos, logrando así, a través de ellos, distinguirnos.

Efectivas “armas de seducción” los tacos altos, hicieron su aparición en el siglo XVII procedentes de París y su protagonismo fue tal que llevaron en la colonia de Massachusetts a aprobar una ley que establecía que “Toda mujer, ya se trate de vírgenes, solteras o viudas, que tras darse a conocer esta Ley, seduzca o engañe con fines matrimoniales a cualquier súbdito masculino de Su Majestad mediante el uso de… tacos altos, quedara sujeta a los mismos severos castigos que se aplican a las presuntas brujas”.

Claro, estos pobres muchachos, ya entendían en aquel entonces, la magnitud del poder personal que habita en nuestro genero, teniendo que protegerse con leyes, pues voluntad o viveza para distinguirlo y rechazarlo… escaseaba parece!

Un dato interesante, en el que tuvieron intervención nuestros deseados zapatos, es el origen de la palabra "sabotaje" que deriva de "sabot", el término con que se designa en francés, a los zuecos de madera, que los trabajadores textiles del siglo XVIII colocaban dentro de la maquinaria de las fábricas "como acto de desafío" en un contexto de desacuerdos políticos.

Otro ámbito en el que tuvieron su momento de gloria, es la literatura; con el recordado y famoso cuento de hadas “la Cenicienta” en el que, gracias al finísimo y pequeño zapatito de cristal, que solo calzaba en los pies de su dueña, nuestra heroína por fin, llega a los brazos de un príncipe que era el verdadero “zapato” de la historia, pues ni siquiera recordaba el rostro de su amada…

Lo cierto es que a través de los años, de las sociedades, las culturas o las políticas, los zapatos femeninos han sido y son, protagonistas y las mujeres que los llevan también!
