J.J. Abrams quiere resucitar ”Superman”

Tras el éxito de crítica y público que J.J. Abrams logró al reiniciar la franquicia de ”Star Trek”, el creador de ‘Lost’ se perfila como una de las opciones de Warner para resucitar a su personaje más emblemático, Superman.

Hay que recordar que Abrams ya escribió hace años y que finalmente fue rechazada, pero parece que no guarda rencor ante esta intentona fallida. “Nadie me ha vuelto a hablar sobre ello. Pero cuando escribí aquel guión pude comprobar que es un trabajo muy largo”, afirmó el director en declaraciones a la MTV en las que reconoció que Superman es un personaje al que tiene un tremendo cariño por lo que significó para él de niño y no podría decirle que no.

“Sería maravilloso y muy divertido encontrar eso de vuelta. No sé lo que Warner piensa sobre el proyecto o cual es su plan pero sería brutal”, afirmó Abrams que también recordó que su versión de Superman que se filtró y fue rechaza no era definitiva. “Creo que hay una versión de esa película que podría ser muy divertida y…  nunca se sabe”, sentenció.

NO DIRIGIRÁ MISIÓN IMPOSIBLE 4

Teniendo en cuenta lo bien que le fue reinventado Star Trek y las ganas que tiene de versionar al personaje de DC no es ni mucho menos descabellado pensar en el Superman de Abrams. Y después de que el propio Abrams en esta misma entrevista aclarará su agenda al asegurar  que  no dirigirá la cuarta película de Mission Imposible, desmintiendo así los rumores que saltaron hace unos meses.

Abrams aseguró que él solo será el co-productor de una cinta que también contará con Tom Cruise. Y es que, según adelantó, el guión, que ya escriben Josh Applebaum y Andre Nemec, continuará la línea de las tres anteriores películas. “Tenemos una historia realmente bueno”, afirmó.

At a press event to promote the upcoming DVD release of Star Trek on November 17, director J.J. Abrams and screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci opened up about their developing plans for the sequel.

According to Collider, the big status update is they are still brainstorming the story idea for the science fiction follow-up, and haven’t decided on the basic plot. Kurtzman and Orci stressed the importance of a stand-alone installment and Abrams intends to make it for general audiences not just Trekkies (like the first). Though there may end up being references for the fans, and the writers haven’t decided on whether or not the foe will be the return of Khan.

“There’s Empire Strikes Back, Superman 2, Aliens, Terminator 2, Star Trek 2. What do all those movies have in common? Well, they’re amazing stories, all on their own,” Kurtzman said.

Orci stressed that the allegorical philosophy is just that, and the eventual plot won’t be a heavy-handed reference to Guantanamo Bay or any other “modern issues.”

Abrams was asked about possibly shooting the film in 3-D to which he replied, “I’m open to looking at it ’cause now I feel a little bit more comfortable. And, if I, in fact, direct the Star Trek sequel, 3-D could be really fun, so I’m open to it. What I’ve seen of Avatar makes me want to do it because it’s so crazy-cool looking.” The release, like the first, will probably end up on the IMAX screen, so I’d rather Abrams shoot using IMAX cameras than dive into stereoscopic 3-D, but we’ll see which direction Paramount wants to go with gimmicky film making.

As for non-Trek related movies, Abrams said they’re still formulating the story and script for Mission: Impossible 4 and Kurtzman/Orci are doing Western research for Cowboys & Aliens. “Fringe” writer Brad Kane is finishing the script for the View-Master adaptation (Kurtzman/Orci are producing) that’s based on an idea he came up with before they agreed to collaborate on a toy movie for Universal.

Work has properly begun on the next Mission: Impossible, according to Variety.  JJ Abrams, co-producing with Tom Cruise this time around (he’s unlikely to direct) has given script duties to Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec.

Josh and Andre come from the stable of writers and producers who worked on Abrams’ Jennifer Garner-starring TV series Alias. The gang also included Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who wrote M:I 3 and Star Trek, and Drew Goddard, who wrote Cloverfield. Note to self: must find way onto Abrams gravy train.

Abrams describes the project as “off to an exciting start”. No director or cast details yet though, other than Cruise. And maybe I’m reading a bit too much into it, but Variety’s story seems reluctant to say that Cruise is actually starring: the line is that The Cruiser “will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity”… 

Torch-passing exercise? New team of IMF agents, with Cruise in the background in the Peter Graves role? Who do you reckon would be a good replacement on the mask-wearing front line?

Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec will be writing the script for “M:I 4″. Both Applebaum and Nemec have worked with Abrams before as co-executive producers on the ABC show “Alias”. The other day I viewed Kate and Leopold. This movie is one where the characters transcend time.

The film is a date flick. Leopold (Hugh Jackman) accidentally leaps in time from 1876 to the 21st Century here he meets Kate ably played by Meg Ryan. Due to the time incident they meet in the present days and they fall in love. But he must go back and he does. Will Kate follow him ???

Like all love stories the predictable happens and love transcends time and triumphs in the end. A feel good film.

In the movie, Leopold makes a comment that you just have to find a portal to go to another time.

In India we have heard of yogi’s transcending space . Yogi’s are known to have been at two places at the same time. When a ‘genuine’ master looks at you , your entire life past and present not just of this lifetime but several lifetimes is revealed to him like a film reel. We have a karmic theory where what you give back to the universe will be paid back to you in kind. Hence to even be in the presence of a master has to be a ‘good’ karma.

In the movie, Kate says, “I don’t have time for pious speeches from two hundred year old men who have not worked a day in their life”. The line seems fiction. But this is what the Indian yogis are known for. Our own guru Ram Baba was 156 years old when the family met him. Mahavatar Baba is known to be several 100 years old. I met a guru who was in his 90’s and could give a 30 year old a complex. He spoke of ‘Kalp Kaya’ where he would go into his cave after he turned 100 and do a certain strict discipline in Yoga and he would be a young man again and have cells in his body that would easily lead him another 100 years. This practice he explained is done by the Sages in the Himalayas.

Another incident in the movie, Stuart, who is Kate’s ex boyfriend and who is responsible for Leopold to be here in the present escapes from the mental hospital, and while Kate is accepting her promotion at a company banquet, he and Charlie (Kate’s brother) are racing to meet her. Moments before she goes on stage, they arrive and produce pictures from Stuart’s camera that show her in 1876. Stuart says that he had thought he disrupted the spacetime continuum, but actually “the whole thing is a beautiful 4-D pretzel of kismetic inevitability”.

What is 4-D pretzel of kismetic inevitability ?
Kismet is Destiny, a predetermined course of events. This the Hindu’s believe is as per your past karma’s or actions.
4-D is an additional dimension. We are only used to a familiar 3-dimensional space that we live in, there are three pairs of cardinal directions: up/down (altitude), north/south (latitude), and east/west (longitude).

The idea of time being the fourth dimension of spacetime was the basis for Einstein’s theories of Special and General Relativity. This association of the fourth dimension with time rather than space has become the popular understanding of the term, even though it is applicable only to Einstein’s theories of relativity. Nevertheless, mathematicians today continue to study the rich geometry of four-dimensional space regarding the fourth dimension as a spatial, and not temporal, dimension. This dimension is spoken of at length in our scriptures. Our Yogis have followed it and stories of this are common in our country.

Movies like Mission Impossible 4 and Matrix have delved into the base of the Hindu philosophy and given it a scientific approach. Yogi’s in India since time immemorial have been the most scientific bent of mind possible.

My family had interacted with a Yogi who was the disciple of Sai Baba of Shirdi. He knew of every ailment and every conceivable medicine related to it. If he saw you he could diagnose what was the problem and would eventually prove doctors wrong in their analysis of treating a patient.

Alternate therapy is popular in India simply because of faith. I may not subscribe to a lot of these therapies but I cannot say much when it works for some people and the doctors themselves tell patients to continue what they are doing as their symptoms in Xray’s and Sonography’s have shown improved results.

When I see movies like Kate and Leopold it does not seem a fantasy subject to me as I have heard of them since I was little. One of the most celebrated books in this field is ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’. A must read book and filmmakers will get innumerable fantasy subjects from that one book to make fascinating movies on. After reading this book some have come to India to find a Master. One thing has to be remembered, ‘You cannot find a Master, the Master will find you.’ Only if you are worthy will they reveal themselves and take you under their fold. This does not have to be at an ashram level but in terms of you being a householder and they imparting knowledge. My family’s guru was their neighbor for a brief period and that is how they found him or rather he found them.

If you didn’t already know, JJ Abrams is the man currently leading a geek takeover through Hollywood. Recently, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman spoke about how they might approach a sequel to the critical and financial juggernaut, Star Trek, and stated that they were exploring all possibilities of the new timeline they’ve created. “The great thing is we’re all open to anything,” Abrams said. “I think the fun of where we are with Trek is that it can and should just be fully explored. So I think to limit ourselves to only new adventures would be a mistake.” Orci and Kurtzman spoke, of course, of whether all the adventures would be new or if there would be altered versions of things we’d already seen, i.e. How would the Kirk/Kahn story play out in this universe?

It was also recently announced that JJ Abrams and Tom Cruise would be teaming up to produce a fourth installment of Mission: Impossible, but declares he doesn’t plan to direct. He didn’t plan to direct Star Trek either, and look how well that panned out.  “There’s no director attached to the movie yet,” Abrams said. “We’re just developing an idea, which I think is very cool, so we’re just starting it out, but it’s exciting. It’s a fun idea, and it’s always an honor to work with Tom. We would definitely produce the movie together, and details from there we’re still figuring out.”

Finally, Abrams touched on Fringe and how the reveal of the still standing Twin Towers (which made me go meh) would be addressed in the second season. “You have to watch to see how that plays out,” Abrams said. “That was a big decision for the show, because it was obviously a potential sensitive kind of choice. But I feel like, given what our story is, given the world of Fringe, I think it will be very satisfying.”

Great (re: questionable) news; Tom Cruise is gearing up to make Mission Impossible 4.

2006’s M:I 3 $395,668,139 worldwide, amply covering the $150,000,000 budget, but received less than rave reviews in the wake of Cruise’s bizarre behavior (re: Oprah’s couch). He’s no doubt a big name that gets audiences in theaters, but does anyone actually want to see another sequel? After Valkryie’s box office ($83 million USA) and Cruise’s lackluster performance, I’m not so sure.

Estaba claro que Tom Cruise volvería a meterse en la piel del espía Ethan Hunt en una nueva entrega de esta saga de acción (Ya puestos: ”Mision Imposible 4”). Lo que no teníamos tan claro es quién sería el realizador, hasta que ha llegado “Spoiler TV” y ha dado prácticamente por confirmada la presencia de J.J. Abrams, director de ”Misión Imposible III”, en esta cinta.

El realizador de ”Star Trek (2009)”, comentó lo siguiente en una entrevista al mencionado medio: “Estoy muy honrado de que Tom me haya invitado a formar parte de la producción de ”Mission Impossible 4”.

Todavía tenemos que llegar a un acuerdo para que dirija el film, aunque creo que se hará”. Parece además que actor y director tienen claro la forma de encaminar esta nueva entrega: “Tom y yo tenemos en mente una genial idea, la cual ya se está desarrollando”. a “genial idea” de la que habla Abrams, lo que está claro es que el espectáculo está asegurado. Recordemos que hace un par de meses, Cruise llegó a comentar que su intención es que alguna de las escenas de acción de la nueva entrega de la saga se ruede en Tokio. Pero el protagonista de ”Valkiria” no quiso dar más detalles sobre el proyecto, y emplazó a todos a esperar que Paramount, el estudio que tiene los derechos de la saga y con el que Cruise ya parece haber firmado la paz, realice el anuncio oficial.

Director/producer J.J. Abrams (Fringe, Lost, Mission Impossible 3, Cloverfield) and Tom Cruise (War of the Worlds, Mission Impossible, Valkyrie) are re-teaming for Mission Impossible 4.  As of right now, Abrams is only committed as a producer, but is considering returning to direct.

“Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing,” Abrams said.  What do you think?

JJ Abrams (Director of Star Trek and Mission Impossible 3) has told TV Guide that he has been asked to work on Mission Impossible 4. He annouced that he would be on as a Producer the next film in Tom Cruise’s franchise but he did not say who would be directing. Chances are he probably will probably not be behind the lens for this fourth movie but you never know.
