I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to post Justin’s session! This is also a new experiment with the blog. NORMALLY, I’d post the things I love about the session, then I’d just post pics with a few comments here and there. Today I’m not only throwing in the fun little story from that night, but you’ll ALSO get to hear from Justin about his thoughts on having his senior pics done.

Sooo, the light was perfect, Justin was awesome, I got to hear some amazing music, and I lost some equipment.

Wait, what? Yup! Down the drain… so to speak.

Here we are, truckin’ along, taking some great pics. We get to this bridge that we just LOVE. I set down my bag, get the camera ready, and here we go. Of course, this bridge is over a rushing creek. The rain has been really good to us this year; well silly old me decides it’s a GOOD idea to CHUCK MY LENS CAP at my bag, ON THE BRIDGE! Oh boy, right? So, like any sane person, I go diving into the creek to fetch my oh so precious cap ,right?

Naaah. I shoot Justin scouring underneath this bridge for the lens cap time and again, periodically looking down myself to see if it settled into the murk or swam away with the fishies. AND I got some great pics out of all this!!

The good news is I DID get my lens cap back thanks to some patience, and some reallllly long limbs.

But enough from me, let’s see what Justin had to say about his senior session!

What school do you attend?

Nixa High

Are you a Junior or Senior? When do you graduate?

Senior. 2013

If you could take one thing with you from your senior portrait experience, what would it be?

Trying to find the lens cap and seeing the pictures you snapped of me doing it.

What was your favorite thing about your session?

Getting to see some new places

What did you want this session to convey about you and about your senior year?

I wanted it to convey the things I do and my style.

What is one tip you can share with other seniors who are on the fence about having their senior portraits done?

Have them done anyways because you may find that you really enjoy it.

Would you recommend Kris Walden Photography to your friends?

Yes I would

This past weekend was more fun than a barrel of monkeys, and yes I used to love those things (who doesn’t?)! I had a blast second shooting with Lauren Greenberg and Jon Paul Richardson. For those of you who have never assisted or been a second shooter at a wedding, START NOW! I can’t tell you how much value lay in working with other photographers. Both of you will grow in exponential ways, more so than you could ever learn just shooting on your own or coming fresh out of photography school (and trust me, I’ve done both). School’s great for learning technique, lighting, composition, etc. And NOTHING will make or break you as a photographer like going it alone. You (often) either build confidence quickly, or you plummet into a never-ending “I suck at photography” abyss. You don’t wanna go the second road. But nothing beats working with other professionals (emerging and experienced pros alike). You learn what you like/dislike, angles, equipment, posing, personalities, the list could literally go on and on and on (I’m not even sure the Energizer bunny could keep up!). You ALSO build a great network, and, if you’ve chosen wisely, you’ve gained yourself a great friend!

I’ve second shot in both the KC and Springfield areas quite a bit, and I’ve got quite a few left to go this summer. Why do I do it? I’m glad you asked! I enjoy it! I don’t care if I’m the main shooter, second shooter, or running to the nearest camera store to pick up replacements for photo gear! I love working with these people, and the brides and grooms are always hilarious and a joy to work with! I also love to help out my fellow photographers. I learn a lot, and so do they, and it helps us break up the monotony of working alone often times, especially if you run a one-person show. This list could also go on, but put simply: I love second shooting. It just makes me happy (like red velvet ice cream).

So! Without further ado, I’d like to share a couple of my favorite shots from each wedding I assisted with last weekend! Hope you enjoy!

These are some of my favorite images from a recent session I had with Maureen, who is looking to enter the world of modeling. We spent about 5 hours around downtown Jefferson City and we found some great places to shoot. In fact, we found so many amazing places to shoot downtown that we didn’t even go any where else!! We ended the shoot with over 1000 images and it was almost impossible for me to pick just a few to post here so these are the few I have completed and you will probably see more from Maureen’s shoot very soon!!!

Who says you need a studio to do high key??? This image was taken in front of a dirty white garage door!!

This is my new favorite location in Jefferson City!!!

A little something simple and traditional to supplement the EDGY stuff we did!

This was the second of the two July SJP session give aways.
