 We all stayed home today, my laptop had exploded yesterday like the Death Star only not quite as important except to me.  It was epic to me. 

 I am writing on my regular work station which seems so primitive, but the advantage is that I can listen to Lauridsen’s Nocturnes at full volume; using YouTube I do listen to Lauridsen and Missy Elliot too for that matter, now there’s two names you don’t often hear in the same sentence, I wonder if they’ve ever heard each other’s music… let me think.  It’s hard to imagine Missy listening to “Sure on this Shining Night,” surely one of the most beautiful pieces of chorale music ever written, and much as I love Skip and he is very hip, he really is, I don’t know if he would listen to “Work it,” but if you want to, here’s the link.  It is a naughty song, so maybe you shouldn’t go there… give it some thought.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fL-S6WyMPQ .  Anyway, I can hear the music, but I can’t move around the house and I can’t get my email, so that’s kind of sad. 

 And I can only hope that my book that I had planned to turn into an agent this weekend is all intact, fortunately it is saved off site.  I went into the computer place this morning after the run and the gym and begged those guys to fix it.  The computer guys breathe silicon, they know their way around the inside of my ancient laptop, but let’s not talk about ancient as my Honda creeps up on 250,000 miles. 

 So while I was out, I saw the shopping fools with their haggard little faces and restless hands and legs, they probably have restless legs syndrome,  rushing here and there, in search of something.  Searching for what?  I don’t know.  I don’t like going shopping at all.  Places I don’t like to enter and have made a plan of not going into any more:  Costco, Ross, Walmart, Steinmart, (actually never been to one, just don’t like the name), Neiman Marcus, (never been to one) Nordstorm, Saks.  Those are the main places I’ve banned from the Kate list. 

 If I have to shop, here are places I am willing to go:  Buffalo Exhange, Second Spin, Aardvark, Handmade (weird place in the Valley has cool hand made stuff,) Old Navy, (just like it,) Victoria Secret (this company probably has some dark secrets, ha ha, but their stuff is really cool.) 

 But, in my opinion if you mostly avoid going into stores and shopping, there is more time for writing, sleeping and hanging out with your friends.  I don’t recommend shopping to sane people.  But I absolutely recommend gift giving.  I think the exchange of gifts is one of the ways we show people that they are special to us.  Of course, there are the sad stories of the gifts that always get re-gifted, and White people have trouble actually discussing these things so they’ll let someone buy the wrong gift ten years in a row rather than tell them that they hate cardigans, they’ll just stack the cardigans in a drawer or give them to a friend.  I think it’s great to be able to find the right gifts for people you really love and laugh and smile and say thank you when you don’t. 

In my writing room, I see a Pez nutcracker I got for Christmas from my husband, a hen card holder from my friend Rachel, candles from my daughter and a painting my son made.  It has a clock on the wall showing 6 pm and a wine bottle is being poured to fill a glass of wine.  He was ten when he made that painting.  What a smart child! 

 Well, tomorrow we have a brunch and  then we are attending a French dinner for twelve in Pasadena, (see my dream was wrong, they speak French in Pasadena) and then off to Guadalajara where they really do speak Spanish, I am sure of it.  We’ve checked the weather; it gets down to 46 degrees at night.  I’ll be blogging from Mexico starting Sunday.

Bonus Footage: I was trying to find a clip of what I thought was Jean Grae for like two years. I heard this girl rapping on interludes for 9th Wonder’s 2007 Dream Merchant II. The only female emcee associated with him, or so I thought at the time, was Jean Grae so I just assumed it was her. In the process of looking for this clip I learned that it was not Jean Grae. It was in fact a female emcee named Rapsody. You learn something new everyday. The undisputed best female rapper of all time Missy Elliot has been slowly working her new album, Bloc Party, for a few years now and we are told that we can expect to see it early next year.

As a big fan of Missy I have been waiting forever for this album and the early signs are showing that it is going to be awesome.

Before Jay-Z had his “Izzo”. Before Snoop found his “Fo’ schizzle bizzle”. Frankie Smith was plizzayin’ dizzouble dizzutch and introducing folks to hip hop’s version of Pig Latin. The guy in the funny hat above was the one who introduced the “Izz” to hip hop culture back in 1981 with his song Double Dutch Bus. Since the track was regarded as R&B – the true introduction apparently came from E-40 (ahem…Ben).

Although there are no hard-and-fast rules governing its usage, in general, the izz infix technique is performed by inserting izz, usually after a word’s last pre-vowel consonant in its final syllable without deleting any letters.

Examples: minute becomes minizzute, and Kazakhstan becomes Kazakhstizzan. One-syllable words generally translate better with this technique: cream becomes crizzeam, for example.

It can also be performed by inserting izz at the beginning of a lone vowel:  I  becomes Izzi   and O becomes Izzo. This specific technique is implemented in Jay-Z’s song “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” found on his album The Blueprint. (more here)

Supuestamente esta canción debería ser un bombazo. En ella se juntan dos cosechadoras de éxitos natas: por un lado Beyoncé, por el otro Lady Gaga. Pero nada.

Simplemente escuchamos y vemos a dos gatas en celo.

No quiero resultar grosera y vulgar, pero esta canción y sobre todo el vídeo, sirven para lo que sirven. No voy a decir más.

So first off HELLO MY LOVE and thank you for taking the time out to do this interview with me! I promise this won’t be painful.  So you have been doing my hair for about a year now.  Let’s give our readers a closer look at who you are.  Shall we? :

1. So what initially got you into hairstyling?

SINCE I WAS LITTLE, I USED TO DO CUTS ON THE GUYS IN HIGHSCHOOL.  YOU CAN SAY I WENT FROM
“ROCKS TO LOCKS!”  BEING A HAIR “BALLER” WAS ALOT SAFER.  GIVE ME SOME THREAD AND LOOSE HAIR AND I CAN MAKE YOU A TRACK!  THAT’S HOW LONG I’VE BEEN AROUND HAIR.  MY FAMILY OWNS HAIR SALONS, AND I’VE HAD MY OWN SALONS IN ST. LOUIS (BEFORE MOVING OUT TO LOS ANGELES).  LIKE MY GRANNY SAID “I CAN TAKE IT(HAIRSTYLING) ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND MAKE A NAME AND MONEY FOR MYSELF.”  THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’VE DONE! LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.

2. So hairstyling has obviously been in your family for a long time, it seems it was only natural for you to get into it.  Who do you consider the top in your field that you admire and aspire to be?

KIYA WRIGHT AND ROBERTA RODGERS.  I DON’T ASPIRE TO BE ANYONE OF THEM, BUT GREATER THAN THEM!

3. Kiya Wright?! Wow, what a small world!  She used to do my hair a couple years back.  She’s great with mixed hair.  So what music do you listen to?

I LISTEN TO ALL KINDS OF MUSIC!  I LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC BECAUSE THE LYRICS ARE BOMB.  ROCK, INSPIRATION(GOSPEL), JAMAICAN, POP, ALL KINDS OF MUSIC EXCEPT HOUSE!

4. I would have never expected from knowing you, that you were a fan of Country music! I love it too.  So who are some clients you’re proud to have worked with?

I AM PROUD TO HAVE WORKED WITH MISSY ELLIOT, NE-YO, NICK CANNON, SNOOP DOGG, TYLER PERRY, PRINCE, BABYFACE, CLAUDIA JORDAN, JORDAN B. SCOTT, DANIELLE CRAWLEY, AKON, PLIES -WHO GOT ME STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY), KEISHA COLE, KELIS, STACEY DASH(INFAMOUS KING MAGAZINE SHOOT), LAWRENCE FISHBURN, NIA LONG, CIARA, KEISHA KNIGHT PULLIAM, AND MANY MORE!  I’VE WORKED WITH EVERY MOGUL, MAN, VIDEO VIXEN I CAN THINK OF! I AM NOW MOVING TOWARDS KEY STYLING FOR CELEB WOMEN!

5. Ne-yo? You did Ne-yo’s hair? Does Ne-yo have hair that i’m not aware of?! LOL Kidding.  That’s quite an impressive resume!  And to hear you’re getting into styling women, gotta say I love it! Hmm…next question.  If you had a choice to be in another profession, would you?

IF I HAD THE CHOICE TO HAVE ANOTHER PROFESSION IT WOULD FOR SURE BE AN ACTOR,TALK SHOW HOST, AND RECORDING ARTIST, IN WHICH I’VE DONE ALL ALREADY.  NOW MY CAREER PUTS ME IN THE DRIVER SEAT TO DO ALL THE PREVIOUS THAT I’VE MENTIONED.  MR.UP AND COMING!

6. Do you love what you do?

I LOVE WHAT I DO BECAUSE EVERY DAY IT’S DIFFERENT AND I’M NOT RESTRICTED TO “THE SALON”BECAUSE I’M FREELANCE.  IT HAS TAKEN ME  IN AND OUT THE COUNTRY WITH THE BEST!  THE BEST IS STILL YET TO COME!

7. That’s amazing.  To go from St. Louis to all over the globe, must be an awesome feeling.  Most people HATE what they do for a living, so it’s nice to hear that you’re in the many few that get to love their jobs.  So what projects can we look forward to seeing from you?

Timbaland, Hip-Hop’s resident ‘beaterator’ hit maker, is joining the ranks of the some of the greats and following the trend of album push backs.

Timbo announced today that he would hold off on the sequel to his 2007 Shock Value album. Originally slated to hit stores on November 22, the album has been pushed back to December 8.

The album has more of a pop feel to it featuring rock band The Fray, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Brandy, Nelly Furtado and Keri Hilson. The only Hip-Hop collaboration will be with Drake on the single “Say Something.”

Timbaland spoke on the collaborations on the project in a press release saying that fans will get to hear their favorite artist in a different light through his stellar production.

“I’m so fortunate and blessed to be able to create a Shock Value II. I’m really proud of the caliber of artists on this album and all the work they put into making it a success…It’s exciting because not only am I giving fans the best of me on each track, I’m giving them a glimpse of their favorite artist in a completely different light.”

I wonder why he’s been doing more pop features lately. Only one Hip-Hop collaboration Timbo? I miss the Timbaland that worked with Missy Elliot and Magoo. I’m just saying….

Here’s a new track of Missy Elliott called “Put It On Ya” featuring Teyana Taylor. I like this track a lot, it reminds me a lot of CiCi’s “Work”, especially the verse is almost the same!! I love to see this one as her official leadsingle of “Block Party”!!!

I gotta say, I love this song, Ive been awaiting the video to come out, and I have been checking Youtube for ages, but decided to give it a miss because I didnt think she was going to be making a video for her new song ‘Fast Car’, But I was proved wrong, There is indeed a Video. The song is performed by Queen Latifah herself, and Missy Elliot.The song is from her newest 2009 studio album “Persona”. I love the video, its really Her & she looks so amazing!. Im glad she has steerd away from acting and given us a rockin’ song to listen to. The video had everyone Shocked, They where expecting somthing old stlye and expecting the film clip to boring.
