O Massaroca essa semana é sobre Alan Moore. Quem? Escritor de quadrinhos, principalmente. Um baita escritor de quadrinhos. Mas também um cara muito louco e cheio de teorias sobre o mundo, a mente, magia e essas coisas. Vamos lá, vai ser divertido.

Claro que um assunto tão fora do comum como magia fica dificil de ser tratado no Massaroca, mas a idéia não era mesmo explicar demais. Mas sim, te dar vontade de pesquisar e conhecer. Independente de acreditar em rituais e sigilos e maldições (eu não acredito), considere que o assunto é interessante por ser uma abordagem diferente sobre como funciona sua cabeça.

Pra começo de conversa, você pode assistir no documentário The Mindscape of Alan Moore, do qual algumas imagens e frases foram emprestadas pra esse Massaroca.

A primeira parte do documentário (e todas as outras também) pode ser encontrada aqui.

A HQ Promethea foi lançada no Brasil em edição encadernada recentemente, e é praticamente um guia sobre a magia e a criatividade, de acordo com Alan Moore, também. Além de ser uma puta história.

Daí, tem tanta coisa que dá pra ler a respeito. Aleister Crowley, Robert Anton Wilson ou até outro popstar dos quadrinhos, Grant Morrison, que colocou um feitiço no encarte de um disco do Robbie Williams. Seja lá pra quê. Dê uma olhada por aí, muita coisa interessante, estranha e legal de conhecer. Ou não, também, você quem sabe.

E tem o Derren Brown, que não tem tanto a ver com esse tipo de magia.

Mas Derren Brown detona.

Tem muita coisa dele no youtube e é tudo muito impressionante. Se ele pode parecer um pouco tapeador no Massaroca, tenha certeza: ele não é. Sim, ele é um mágico, acima de tudo, mas a coisa é bem mais complexa que isso. Alguns livros dele podem ser achados em livrarias ou em torrent na internet. Tricks of The Mind é indicado.

She correctly calls out GS when he has failed to mention the prevelance of female hatred by men in rap songs. He tries to make up for this by making a post about rap. I have two things to say about this post. First – he posts the ENTIRE lyrics to the other two male hate by female songs on his site and on this post he conveniently only pulls out the lyrics which will fit his agenda. I am sorry but this statement by LorMarie is utterly false. Do a google search of mysogyny, rap lyrics, and you will see how false this feminist retort is. It is basesless, factless and attempts to absolve women of her ilk from holding women like beyonce responsible and accountable. Their are no books, programs or congressional members broaching the subject of misandry, there are all of the aforementioned when it comes specifically to rap and mysogyny.

There are no classroom discussions denouncing beyonce, but male rap lyrics are routinely the subject of classroom discourse. Male rap artists do no play their mysogynistic songs on Good Morning America to the delight of Diane Sawyer, or on Oprah– Beyonce however does. The double standard that LorMarie wants to protest doesn’t exist in any manner shape or way that she wants to pretend it does.

That you, Huilenowl, for taking the words right out of my mouth. I totally agree. I was about to respond to that and was glad to see you already did. I do not see how anyone can say it is “without protest” when there is tons of protest. How is that “without protest”? I hear of similar opposition all the time.

Even worse is the claim that this is somehow a “double standard when in fact the double standard is exactly the OPPOSITE. Nobody challenges misandry when it’s all over the MAINSTREAM. Commercials, comedy, humor, etc. You are absolutely, 100%, CORRECT. Misogyny gets pushed to the fringes and “shock” DJ’s and then still gets protested, while, as Warren Farrell puts it, “Male bashing is a Hallmark card.”

lormarie is wrong….conservatives have spoken out against rap (i don’t call them artists-lol…they can’t even sing)…i’ve heard them do so on the radio and tv….but….you won’t hear liberals speak out on thisi believe because they are too busy kissing up for their votes….and they are to scared to loose their support

Not true. Liberals and feminists speak out about this alot. And they’re hypocritical when they do, just as the conservatives are, because they both ignore the misandry and only speak about misogyny.

When it comes to gender issues, I see plenty of hypocrisy in both left and right camps.

Sure…right…when has the Today Show ever done a segment on anti-male lyrics? Rarely if ever…but they hit the anti-female lyrics all the time.

The double standard is in the fact that society seems to recognize that anti-female lyrics are wrong…but they seem to let pass anti-male lyrics.

This is just another “me-too” from LorMarie I think. Is she right to point out anti-female lyrics? Sure..but don’t try to get props by saying that there is an anti-female double standard going on when the double standard is clearly anti-male.

‘Baby Mama Drama’, a truthful song that accurately depicts the situation for so many fathers whose children are born out of wedlock!

I believe it could also be called the Truth song, I’m lovin’ it !

The detractors sound a lot like the narrow-minded, backward, ignorant elitist kooks that used to burn Beatle albums by the hundreds in the middle of the street back in the day.

That’s because Beyonce was singing about an image that male rappers regularly present about themselves. Her song also lacked the anti-male and female degredation and violence often present in rap music. I swear, the onset of NWA and Easy-E sent rap down the drain, LOL.

Now if Beyonce were to sing a song depicting AA (African American) males as subhuman male “hos” who should be beaten or performs on stage with a noose, I’d say we have a problem. Until then, I don’t think that her song is any worse than much of what is played on the radio (including country, rock, R&B) by male and female artists.

Back to the song lyrics…no start with the title. Baby Mama. Maybe if young black AND white people thought of babies in terms of husband and wife, there would be more respect for one another and a better outcome for the children. The song is junk that only serves to further push a wrong idea about what reproducing *human beings* is supposed to entail. JMO.

I will be updating this as new comments are posted as I can rightfully imagine there will be few posts to commend Glenn on his half assed post regarding rap.

GNR also caught heat for using the “N” word in “One In A Million.” A term ironically used by “N”WA in their very name. Strangely enough, it did little to dampen their (GNR) popularity.

Most of the lyrics aren’t “mysoginist,” anyway. It’s mostly just rappers bragging about all the hot b*tches they’ve nailed. But when a man discusses his adolescent desires and frustrations we need to have a debate about it to make sure he isn’t persecuting women; when a woman discusses her feelings it’s healthy. How ridiculous can you get?

Quite frankly, I would like to see more music that is “anti-female” (or anti-feminist, more specifically). Songs about women pretending to be helpless, exploiting the system, failing to raise children on their own, lying about men, etc. I hope the word “ho” won’t be used because I wouldn’t want prostitutes to be unfairly compared to the kind of women I’m referring to.

All I can say is that I have yet to see a male singer come up with a song that shows male against female violence and actually have the video applauded when a clip of it is played on a daytime talk show.

The main thing about rap (regardless of the color) is that they hail from a totally different culture.

What is this culture? The poor urban slums. The only thing nearly universal about these homes is that they are fatherless. Some 98% of homes in poor urban slums are fatherless.

Quem conhece o resto da música sabe que os autores não estavam lá tão inspirados assim. Mesmo tendo sido um marco da televisão, ser cantada até hoje, tem uma parte em que eles rimam a palavra “vocês” com a palavra “vocês”. Pois é. Pura falta de inspiração. A mesma falta que a equipe do Julião lanches parece ter de sobra.

Todos temos aqueles dias convencionais de pedir pizza, lanche, comida, garotas da noite ou garotinhos do spani e, normalmente começam na quarta feira. Mas quem disse que somos convencionais? Pedimos hoje, terça feira.
E por pouco não chegou na quarta.

Ligamos para o número estampado no imã de geladeira e o bom velhinho atendeu. Bons Velhinhos costumam ludibriar crianças inocentes como nós em época natalina. Assim foi feito. Atendeu o telefone com voz amigável e contente, parecia que eramos os primeiros clientes da noite, as 19:24. Disse prontamente que entragava aqui na Santa Rita e escutou o pedido. Perguntou-nos apenas o endereço e, quando tentamos ajudar com um ponto de referência, interrompeu completando o que dizíamos. Sabe quando um gago começa tentar falar algo que você já sabe? e você fica se coçando pra completar a frase e seguir com o assunto? foi assim. Quando ele quis desligar, pedi algumas informações a mais:

Jajá seria algum amigo dele frequentando a lan house? Porque o “lanche” demorou mais de UMA HORA para chegar! Foram exatos 62 minutos de espera. Para que? Kibe com catchup.

Abrimos esse saquinho todo torto que o motoboy entregou. Aliás, o motoboy era normal demais, com aquela carinha típica de motoboy, por isso não vale a pena citar. Tivemos a primeira pseudo supresa agradável. O lanche tava com uma cara tãããão bonitiiiiinha.

Mas a primeira mordida mostrou porque era uma pseudo surpresa agradável. Ao reparar o amassado na parte de baixo do lanche, vimos que o hambúrguer parecia um kibe. Pois é, pois é, pois é. Um kibe daqueles gordinhos mesmo. Ok, aparência não é tudo. Degustemos então.
A primeira mordida, catchup. A segunda, falta maionese. Da terceira em diante repetiu-se o catchup.
Nem precisamos dizer que a decepção foi enorme, né?
Para não ser tão ruim assim, nossa dica é:
Comam o lanche lá na lanchonete, no Pedregulho. Costuma ser muito melhor.

O Superior Tribunal de Justiça manteve a decisão que desobriga a TV Globo e a Televisão Gaúcha S/A do pagamento de indenização por danos morais e materiais à Associação dos Mágicos Vítimas do Programa Fantástico, por supostos prejuízos decorrentes da apresentação do quadro “Mister M” em 1999, no qual segredos mágicos eram desvendados.

O desembargador convocado Carlos Fernando Mathias do Tribunal de Justiça do Rio Grande do Sul (TJRS) é quem havia negado o pedido da associação de mágicos. A confirmação da sentença foi feita pela Quarta Turma, que negou provimento ao agravo regimental movido pela associação.

Part 1: ‘Atomic’ Heroes

While I don’t enjoy reading comics, I have a (very big) soft spot for how interactions with matter are imagined in comic book worlds – both story-wise and visually. Of course, there are a great number of other ‘super-powers’ such as omni-linguism, empathy or superhuman strength, but the manipulation of matter takes up the greatest part of superhero abilities – or matter giving the superhero his or her powers. The mutant Mr M, for instance, has ‘complete control over the form and structure of matter’. However, matter is not solely imagined as a substance to be manipulated. It affects the heroes in many different ways. First of all, the weird ways of radiation, subatomic particles, alien elements, non-linearity etc create the superhero. When it comes to superpower origin stories, it is quite amusing to read how many physicists or army people get blown to pieces during ‘nuclear accidents’ of some sort (e.g. Captain Atom, Firestorm, Solar). Is that how the authors imagine the safety standards in power stations, laboratories or the military? I hope they are not talking from personal experience…

Secondly, a lot of heroes, like Mister M, while being potentially able to have ‘total control’ over matter, also let themselves be controlled by it, for instance, by succumbing to alcoholism or needing a substance that maintains their supernatural abilities. Other characters, like ‘toad boy’ are involuntary producers of a harmful or intoxicating substance and are not in control at all over what their bodies and/or their environment make them do.

Even more bizarre than an imagined population of matter-manipulating (and – manipulated) superheroes is the imagined depopulation of said superheroes in an event called ‘M-Day’, which eliminated millions of ‘mutants’. According to Marvel Comics, the move was necessary, because too many superheroes had ‘accumulated’ after more than 40 years of publishing. This has resulted in an argument over who is going to stay or go – or who gets ‘remutated’…

A more charming tendency of comic book imagination is the theme that things do not always work how the god-like heroes intend them to work: one hero (Solar) tries to create or re-create the universe after his liking, but the universe has seems to have its own ideas and Solar finds that not only is Earth now populated with a large number of superheroes, but is also threatened by super-powered ‘Spider Aliens’. So, you can’t have your cake and eat it even in a comic universe, but at least one comforting (?) morale remains: Murphy’s Law is valid for all beings.
