O 8Tracks tem um serviço parecido com o de diversos outros sites bacanas de streaming musical. Mas o chamberlain dele é que o usuário cria uma playlist de 8 músicas pra compartilhar com o resto do universo.
É uma pilha parecida com o Mixwidget, ex-Mixwit, mas limitar a lista a 8 músicas permite criar combinações mais “temáticas”.

Se o wordpress deixasse eu colocaria umas direto aqui no Tropecei, mas já que não dá, entra lá e saca como funciona.

The holiday countdowns have begun! Most of you are already at home enjoying your first week of winter break (and the rest of you are suffering through that last annoying final). Either way, ’tis the season for holiday gatherings, and I can’t think of anything that goes better with mistletoe, ugly sweaters and egg nog than some holiday tunes.

Some are old, some are new, and some are new versions of the old favorites (Radiohead doing ‘Winter Wonderland’? Hell yes!), but all will put you in a great mood no matter what holiday you celebrate!

I received this note in my email this morning…

First Muxtape, now Mixwit. Muxtape was shut down due to pressure from the RIAA. The reason the RIAA forced it to closed was due to violation of the record label’s copyrights by hosting and streaming the MP3s. While the people from Mixwit did not specify the reasons for shutting down, I cannot imagine they are that different than Muxtapes.

I am huge fan of online mixtape services and do not think they pose a major threat to the record industry. I also think they can easily be used as marketing platform to promote new music. While services like these are awesome for the consumer, they really need to figure out from the start how they can provide benefit to the labels.

From just using these sites I can see various ways to earn revenue through sponsorship:

• Have sponsored mixtapes (eg. Nike presents running mixtape)
• Advertiser skins for the cassettes
• Record labels can supply their artists to create featured mixtapes
• Partnership with sites like My Secret Playlist
• Promote featured songs for the mixtapes
• Originally content that can be sponsored (Mixtape Memories from Artists)

Mixwit, a great startup where you could create your own digital tapes is shutting down in the end of this December. This is by far one of the saddest news I got lately. It was one of the few places where you could listen the music that you liked, share it and still not be blocked by any corporation firewall.

La cassetta animata in Flash che vedete qui sopra era già da qualche mese disponibile nella colonna dei video e sulla WebTV; la ripubblichiamo per il piacere di riascoltare il Casalino meno conosciuto e perché (purtroppo) Mixwit chiude a fine anno, forse addirittura il 27, una delle tante vittime della guerra contro i mixtape. Nel frattempo, godiamoci la cassetta virtuale.

We’ve put a year of work into Mixwit so this choice wasn’t taken lightly. I
won’t go into the details of our situation but state simply that we
boldly marched into in a position best described as “between a rock and a
hard place.” We’re very grateful to be have been part of the mixtape
revival of ‘08 and are satisfied to be able to to bow out while things
are still good.

You guys are all amazing. It’s clear that all of you put a ton of time and
effort into your mixes. For me personally, I was looking forward to all of
the designs people created for their tapes. There was a lot of basic tapes
and many lovely photos, but the designs and artwork – WOW!

We’re very sorry that this has to end. We’re going to try to figure out
some way to archive the artwork and playlists, if for nothing at least
historic value. As for now, everything needs to be shut down by the end
of the year just to make sure we’ve got a clean start for 2009.

We’ll return early next year with a new company and new toys. Until
then, enjoy the holidays and please take good care of yourselves,
your families, and your friends =)

What do 10 year olds know about food, anyway?

Ok, remember Toaster Strudel? You know, the bastard cousin of pop-tarts? When I was a kid, my Mom would buy us Toaster Strudel, but not Pop-Tarts. I guess she thought that they were healthier. Back then, I ate them begrudgingly, longing for the lovely tart that popped. Well, I bought a package of Toaster Strudel this week at the grocery, kind of as a throw back to breakfasts of yore. And you know what? TOASTER STRUDEL IS AWESOME. I don’t know what I was thinking when I was a kid. Mmm Mmm delicious.

We have not decorated the house for Christmas yet this year. I am so busy with other projects that it has just not made the to-do list. I promise myself to make time this weekend…
