“There’s no harm in wishing.”

Christmas is just a week away. Some have already come up with their Christmas wish list. Since I’m into running ( really ) and this blog is intended solely for my running endeavors, then it is only right to have a wish list related to running. ( I know I’m starting to sound monotonous. )

With my constant lurking on the Internet, I always had the chance to read almost anything about running, be it about other runners’ blog, products related to the sport, etc.

Without any much ado and fanfare, I will now disclose the things I  pine for ( since  I got bitten by this “R” bug ) this Christmas. Although, I’m still trying to think how it will be possible for all of these stuff to come through. I’m sure, at this time, Santa is already up to his neck with all the Christmas list from children  around the globe. And I happen not to belong anymore to the “children” group. But then, there’s no harm in trying, as the famous Adidas slogan goes,”Impossible is Nothing.”

So here goes my list (…drum roll please …)

1. new pair of running shoes- I’m not really particular as to the brand. At present, I’m using Nike, so I guess, it will be cool to try other brands and come up with a comparison. I’m leaning toward Mizuno or New Balance.

2. new running shirt- Again, the brand does not matter as long as it is of a material that wicks sweat off. ( get the gist )

3. hydration belt- I thought about this for a long time. I haven’t been able  to run long enough to require a hydration belt. For my short runs and races, my water bottle has been my constant companion. Since I’m planning to join the Cebu Marathon ( of course not the 42K ), I’m thinking of  having this one.

4. books related to running- I’m an avid reader so I am ecstatic when it comes to books. I have searched and read reviews online about running-related books. Born to Run by Christopher  McDougall to name one.

Anyway, these are all the stuff I come up with to make my Christmas merrier.   ( of course, they are not the be all and end all of my life ) I hope Santa will be able to read this one. I have to think of a way for him to visit my blog. Any suggestions?

My new Mizuno's

I’m a happy girl today! Went shopping in Fargo today.  Never thought I would be purchasing a new pair of running shoes.  Husband was the one who said, “you need a pair”.  I was a little suprised that he was encouraging me to spend money…hahaha.  He is right, though.  I did need a new pair.  I wanted the exact same style as my first pair.  My first Mizunos were Wave Inspire 4’s.  These are the Wave Inspire 5.  I had hoped for a different color combination, but, this is alright, too.  I tried them on.  They fit exactly as my first pair does.  Immediate love.  These are so soft and cushy in comparison to my currently worn out shoes!

I plan to keep them nice and tidy for awhile.  The shoe salesman felt that I still could get some good use out of my old shoes, and I agree.  They have held up rather nicely for all the use and abuse they get.  I will use those for wet weather and snow running.  My new ones will be for the treadmill, or, for dry weather days.  I’m going to try to save them for next running season.  We’ll see.

The little Running Girl stickers are now plastered on my car.  My husband got the “Running Dude” sticker to match.  How cute!

Heute war die große Abschlussveranstaltung des Zippel`s-Kiel-Cup im Haus des Sports.
Los ging`s um 19 Uhr und ich hatte eigentlich gar nicht damit gerechnet, dabei zu sein. Aber die absolvierten Läufe reichten aus.
Tagsüber im Büro habe ich noch die Firmenmeldung für den Nikolauslauf fertig gemacht und eine der beklopptesten Seiten im Netz gesehen: die Anmeldeseite der stgk. Mannomann ist die unübersichtlich. Die Funktion zur Korrektur war auch nicht so optimal, denn plötzlich stand ein Kollege auf der 15 statt auf der 10 Km-Strecke. Och nö, dann eben per Kontaktmail um Berichtigung gebeten. Wir starten erstmals für die neue Firma und nennen uns “ADM Laufteam”. Nicht gerade spektakulär, ich weiß, aber auf die Schnelle kam nichts Besseres dabei heraus.
Zurück zur großen Verlosung – außer mir waren noch Mirja, Thomas und Mike dabei. Der Raum war ziemlich überfüllt, aber wir hatten Sitzplätze mittendrin. Die Nummern zum Glück lauteten 251, 258, 259 und 332.
Zunächst stellten die einzelnen Veranstalter sich vor und dann wurden die Gesamtsieger geehrt. Danach startete die Verlosung und es wurden gefühlte 100 Rücksäcke und 1000 Mizuno-Gutscheine verlost. Als die 382 gezogen wurde, stockte mir erstmals der Atem, denn es wurde ungefähr so vorgelesen: “dreihundert…zwei…und…achtzig…” – Mist. Das ganze wiederholte sich 2x bei mir und 2x bei Mirja`s Nummer. Auch die 257 wurde gezogen. Als es bei den 300 € Gutscheinen spannend wurde, mussten alle Losinhaber aufstehen, deren Nummer mit einer “2” begann und in der Mitte eine “5” hatte. Upps, plötzlich standen alle drei um mich herum. Leider hatte keiner die richtige dritte Ziffer.
Naja, es hat nicht sein sollen. Das Bier war trotzdem lecker und so manche Einlage ungewollt komisch. So heißt der Organisator gar nicht Herr Zippels sondern Ziplinsky und eine Tombolagewinnerin, die gerade nach vorne kam, wurde mit den Worten empfangen, dass “sie wohl keine Läuferin sei…” *lol*
Fazit ist, dass viele bekannte Gesichter da waren und wir auch ohne Gewinn Spaß hatten.
So langsam geht es in die Winterpause und morgen erstmal zur Weinmesse – für mich leider nur als Fahrer.

Wooo, it’s been a long time since i wrote my post at October 1. Because I have my mid-test two weeks ago until last week, I couldn’t write new post. This time, at 10 o’clock, I came back home earlier because there’s a ceremony, I don’t know what kind of ceremony that is, but it caused all students finished their study at 10 o’clock.

Hey, yesterday, I’ve bought new shoes! Yes, new shoes for ‘turnamen pelajar’ at Senayan, Jakarta. My team, Richeese, will be playing this friday, at 18.00.

I bought this shoes at Hard Ball. It’s a new softball-baseball apparel shop, near Beebucks, in front of Gagas Ceria Kindergarten.

I’m so excited with the softball tournament, but how about the result of my mid-test huh? Just wait until Friday. School will give the result by friday.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!! to my friend Amanda for running her first half marathon.  I think I have a Spring 2010 marathon partner in the making!

So yesterday I got back on the road, armed with the confidence of 26.2 miles behind me, and a new pair of sneakers.  My poor Mizunos carried me through two half marathons and one full, as well as God knows how many training miles; they have now officially been retired.  I actually stopped into Nike after the marathon last weekend, (not something I wanted to do in my state of exhaustion but my parents insisted on getting a picture of the wall with all of the participants’ names) and while trying on their limited edition Chicago Marathon sneaks, was scolded by the sales associate for wearing such well worn running shoes in the race.  I swear, in all my advice searching and research in the past months, not once did I come across the idea that you should train with two pairs of shoes, alternating so that the ones you will race in don’t become overused.  Silly me.

Now I’ve got a new pair of Addidas (sorry Nike) and a better appreciation for how important it is to have a good pair of shoes for your training.  I originally bought my new Addidas about a month ago because I had a feeling my Mizunos were becoming a bit tired.  I went to the specialty running store in my neighborhood, Fleet Feet, known for their attention to detail when fitting you for shoes.

I’m not entirely happy with my new purchase, which is frustrating because running shoes are NOT cheap and extremely important to a runner.  They’re your only piece of “equipment” in this sport and are responsible for the survival of your tortured feet.  I believe I made two mistakes when I went to purchase my shoes.

1.) I went straight from work and wasn’t dressed to run.  Stores like Fleet Feet will have you run a bit outside to get a feel for your shoes and that’s difficult to do in jeans.  Had I been dressed more comfortably, I would have gotten a better feel for the sneakers I was trying on.

2.)  I described the problems I was having with my feet to the sales associate, and trusted that he could find shoes that would fix these problems.  Instead of paying close attention to how the shoes fit me, I assumed the ones he brought me would fill out my arches better and help with my blisters.  The sales associate can’t feel your foot inside the shoe, and its up to the runner to pay close attention to how natural the shoe feels on your foot.

To avoid a similar blunder in shoe shopping, don’t settle for the three or four shoes that the sales associate will likely suggest to you.  If none of them fit juuuust right, keep trying Cinderella.  Its worth the time.  Your running shoes should feel natural.  They should feel a little bit longer than your typical shoes because your toes will constantly be forced into the ends and, as I’ve experienced, blisters can get really nasty on the tips of your toes.

So I will see how these shoes work, and luckily I don’t have any races in the near future to worry about.  I’m sure these will at least work out as my “running-through-slush-and-snow-winter-training-shoes” and when marathon season comes around again, I can get a new pair and make these my alternates.  Good luck in your own shoe shopping and hopefully learn from my mistakes!

Kızı yüzüne sürdüğü o korkunç boyalar nedeniyle ilk başta korkunç bulurken kız bölümün sonuna doğru aslında acaip çekici birisi olduğunu, yüzündeki makyajlardan kurtulması vesilesi ile gösterdi. İlk önce Junpei’yi kovalarken devasa çizilen göğüsleri ile çekici olarak gösterilmeye çalışılmış; ama asıl çekiciliği giydiği hizmetçi kıyfetleri içerisinde en az etrafındakiler kadar bizide büyülemesi ile belli olmuştur. Takdir ediyorum; gözüme Mizuno’dan daha da güzel gözüktü ki Mizuno gibi salt aptal bayan karakterlerden oldum olası hoşlanmamışımdır.

Junpei’nin Sumiyoshi ile olan ilginç ilişkisini bu bölümde bir hayli rayına oturmasına rağmen sonraki bölümlerde daha fazla göreceğiz sanırım.

Harem öğeleri ile dolmaya başladı demiştim değil mi? Kanako Sumiyoshi’nin hemen ertesinde, yani bir sonraki bölüm olan 3. bölümde özettende görüldüğü üzere başka bir güzel, büyük göğüslü hatun, Mochizuko Chizuru çıkıyor.

Bizim Osmanlı Padişahlarının haremlerinde bile bu harem türü animelerde olduğu kadar kız yoktur eminim. Umarım Nyan Koi bir an önce kendisini bu yakıştırmadan kurtarır; zira çok eğlenceli ilerlemesine rağmen anime tarihinin benim için en itici türlerinden birisidir harem…

Bu arada Nyamsas gittikçe sinir bozucu bir kedi olmaya başladı. O çok bilmiş kedi bakışları gerçeğe çok uygun yansıtılıyor ve bu da Nyamsas’ın sinir bozucu tavırları ile birleşince bir kedidekinden daha çok olan tüylerimi diken diken ediyor.

It’s just seven days until the Detroit Free Press / Flagstar Marathon.  Most of you will not be surprised to know that I’m already starting to plan for my trip.  Today’s big effort is wardrobe planning.  It looks like it might be a chilly race, with Saturday’s low being only 36 degrees F. (2 degrees C) and the predicted Sunday high being only 53 degrees F. (12 degrees C).

A few things are certain at this point.  I’ll be wearing my Asics Foundation 8 shoes; they’re well-worn, but not so well worn that they should be replaced yet.  I’ll be wearing CW-X tights; the weather will determine whether I wear half-length Expert shorts or full-length Insulator Stabilyx tights.  If I wear the half-length tights, I’ll also be wearing Zensah compression leg sleeves.  I’ll be wearing WrightSock Running II socks.

The challenge at this point is figuring out what I’ll be wearing up top.  I would love to wear my Mizuno Front Line Racing Team (FLRT) singlet, especially given that I’m racing for FLRT in Detroit.

Seriously … I’m racing on a team.  I’m still trying to get my mind around that fact.  If you know me at all, you know that it adds pressure.

My concern is that it might be too cold to race in a singlet.  I’ve got a skin-tight adidas top I can put on under it, but then I get into the whole bit of wondering if white shirts, one with blue trim, match black tights.  Fashion does matter, after all; I want to look good when I cross the finish line!

Sidebar:  I realise that The Socks (my current pair of Zensah leg compression sleeves) don’t match the black half-length tights.  I haven’t yet decided if I will “ride the horse that got me here” or get a set of black Zensah sleeves.

It’s time to return from fantasy land, I think.

I’m seriously considering pulling on my long-sleeve Brooks top, adding perhaps a thin shell atop it, or perhaps a disposable t-shirt.

Does anyone know if the folks in Detroit are aligned with any charities that collect discarded clothing to donate to homeless shelters?

If rain becomes an issue, my Asics shell will likely be along for the ride.   Depending on the temperature, I’ll also have to consider gloves or mittens.

I hope the rest of the pre-race preparation isn’t so difficult!

I posted a couple of weeks back about BPI’s Big Outlet Sale this October 16-18, 2009 at  The Megatent (Meralco Ave., Pasig).
