Blimey, todays mental when it comes to the betting systems I’m following, I’ve got emails and selections for the Football Trading System, Football Maestro System, FTS System 3, Sports Betting Champ & the Sports Betting Professor.

The Football Trading System has thrown up 2 fixtures and there is also one for System 3.  I think I’ll probably add another 4 or 5 FTS  games, I’m currently reviewing todays fixtures but the Liverpool v City game definitely won’t be featuring.  It’s a hard fixture to predict, although as a City fan with the in-built pessimism, City are due a defeat and Liverpool are due a win, plus Gerrard’s back, so I’d probably go for a 1-0, 2-0 result to Liverpool.  Ian at FTS has also started a fixed odds betting service based on a starting bank of 100 points, whereby he sends out results to back and the number of points to wager.  This is free and comes in the Football Trading System email I receive, the first bet the other night didn’t start off to well, but I only lost 2 points on the Ukraine v Greece match.  Today sees 2 matches with 1 point on each, I’m starting with a £200 bank for this one due to the minimum bet amount on Betfair.

The Sports Betting Champ has just the one NBA pick for today but I can’t the market needed on Betfair, so I’ll be using either my Heroes or Diamond Sportsbook accounts to place that bet.  I’ll do a post about the importance of shopping around for the best odds because although Betfair is usually the best place for football & horse racing odds, you’re going to find much better odds for your NBA/NFL/MLB/NCAA picks on US sportsbooks because that’s their speciality.

The Sports Betting professor has sent me 19 selections today and the majority are NCAA Football picks, 3 of the 19 are strict system bets and the other 16 are Rich Allen’s NCAAF tips.  I’m definitely going to bet on the system bets and I’ll probably have a dabble on the other ones as well.  If the NCCAF tips are as good as his NBA/NFL picks so far, then hopefully it’ll be a profitable Saturday and I’ll see a healthy increase in my betting bankroll.

The Football Maestro system have sent through 16 bets for today also, although I’m not sure if I’ll place all of them because some of the correct score bets don’t sit too comfortably with me, but I know if I don’t place them , then sod’s law will see them all come in.

But does it really have that much of an impact on the game? In the Mauer example, the catcher (Is it Laird or Inge in this case?) appears to “call an audible” and change his signs anyway. Whatever information Mauer relays to Jason Kubel isn’t perfect, as Kubel still struggles to handle Justin Verlander’s curveball.

Here’s a guy we online sports betting fans haven’t discussed for a while: Ichiro. Probably because Seattle’s MLB playoff odds never come into play, he’s faded into obscurity for the past several years. Earlier this month when he got his 2,000th hit, however, I started wondering…if he retired today, would he warrant a spot in the Hall of Fame?

Let’s crunch some numbers. Here’s a guy who got to 2,000 faster than any player not named Al Simmons. He debuted at age 28 after already compiling 1,278 hits in Japan. There’s little doubt in my mind that he’ll hit 3,000 before he retires as long as he wants to keep playing baseball. he’s the type of ball player who is a true athlete, fit enough to play into his mid 40s if he wants to. He also has, of course, the single-season record for hits (272), a .333 average and at least 200 hits in all nine of his Major-League seasons. All that while playing gold-glove-caliber defense.

If only we could’ve included Ichiro in our MLB picks when he was a true rookie in his early 20s, he’d challenge Pete Rose for the all-time career hits lead.

Whatever happens, Ichiro…if you retired today, you’d get my vote for Cooperstown. Thankfully, betting software projects that you’ll reach the 3,000-hit benchmark and make the Hall, my man!

For a while, I’ve been chirping the Los Angeles Dodgers. I rode them hard for not addressing their pitching woes several weeks ago but they’re making me look kind of dumb now. By picking at the veteran pitcher scrap heap like buzzards, the Dodgers have successfully patched up their rotation. NFL week 1 odds are up and that’s a clear sign that October baseball is just around the corner. While the playoffs are an exciting thought, I took a look at the standings today, saw “Lost 8″ beside Tampa Bay in the “streak” column, and suddenly felt glum.

This season was supposedly about parity — namely, financial parity, as the Marlins, Blue Jays, Rangers, Rays, Twins, and Rockies all contended at one point or another this season.

If the MLB playoffs started today, however, we’d see six of the top nine payrolls in baseball make the playoffs: the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Tigers, Angels and Dodgers. While the Rockies and Cardinals show that lacking money is no excuse for not being competitive — sorry, Blue Jay fans — it’s still concerning to see so much big money at the top. If you’re online betting next season, wouldn’t you project the same result?

Baseball has flirted with parity and it’s sort of nice to see so many big, classic markets ready to duke it out for the World Series odds, but we can’t mistake what baseball has for parity. Parity is the Miami Dolphins going 1-15 in 2007 and 11-5 the next season. Parity is the Dallas Stars going from top Stanley Cup contender to missing the playoffs in one season. Parity is a salary cap, folks. Until we get one, baseball will be the one sport that doesn’t require betting software to predict.

In a prelude to the UFC 102 fight card, a pair of rivals will slug it out in San Francisco on Friday as Colorado opens a three-game series against the Giants, who trail the Rockies by three games in the wild-card race.

Rockies vs Giants Odds – Friday, August 28, 10:15 PM ET

Ubaldo Jimenez (12-9, 3.36) went toe-to-toe with Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum last Sunday, allowing a pair of runs on six hits over eight innings as the Rockies won 4-2. Jimenez has now won his last six decisions, and he only walked two batters, along with nine strikeouts against the Giants. He is now 3-2 in eight career starts against San Francisco, despite a very good 2.41 ERA.

Lincecum (12-4, 2.43) walked a season-high five batters, and he gave up three runs on three hits over seven innings, along with seven strikeouts. Lincecum has now given up eight runs in his last 13 innings of work, which is decent for some pitchers, but not a guy who is the defending Cy Young winner, and one of the top baseball betting favorites to win it again.

MLB odds are backing the Giants at -128 to kick off this crucial series with a win, and they need it badly as they lost three of four in Colorado last week. The reason that the Giants are favored is, quite simply, Lincecum has been a beast at AT&T Park with a 7-1 record in 13 starts and a 1.98 ERA. He hasn’t allowed a homer at AT&T Park yet this season, and you know that loss to the Rockies isn’t sitting well. Jimenez is 5-5 in 14 road starts with a 3.48 ERA, but even though he’s won two of three against the Giants this year, he could be in for a long night on Friday. Unless you were betting online last night, you may not understand the headline of this post. If you were, however, you know it could mean only one thing: two aging pitchers combining for a dominant performance thanks to a rain delay. It’s the baseball equivalent of when the Power Rangers used to connect their animal-vehicle-body thingies to form a giant robot named Megazord. He was clearly stolen from  Voltron, who was clearly stolen from Transformers’ Devastator, but I digress.

In last night’s Phillies/D-backs game, Pedro was his usual I’m-back-and-still-awesome-unlike-a-certain-Viking-quarterback self, allowing one run over three innings, walking none and striking out three. After a rain delay shelved him for the rest of the night, Jamie Moyer gave us a surprise that Randy Couture hopes to replicate in the UFC 102 fight card and dominated as a 46-year-old. Looking downright FURIOUS for getting bumped from the rotation, he ate Arizona’s souls, tossing six sparking innings of two-hit, scoreless baseball.

Imagine if Philly could combine Pedro and Moyer into the equivalent of one dominant starter? Add yesterday’s stats up and you get: 9 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. That’s a scary playoff combo if there ever was one, and I’m bettting management in Philly knows it. If Philly manages to harness the primes of both guys by keeping them fresh, they’ll become one of my favorite MLB picks for the playoffs.
