<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>CHICAGO (STMW) &#8211;</strong> A 19-year-old driver was allegedly intoxicated when he crashed into a tree on the Northwest Side early Saturday, injuring himself and a passenger.</p>
<p>The crash happened about 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Montrose and Mobile avenues, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.</p>
<p>The driver &#8212; 19-year-old Terrence Mills &#8212; was traveling eastbound on Montrose when he struck a tree, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he remains in critical condition early Sunday.</p>
<p>Mills, of the 8200 block of West Forest Preserve Avenue, was cited for DUI, failing to carry a driver’s license, transporting alcohol in his vehicle, failure to reduce speed and stay in his lane, and damage to public property, police said.</p>
<p>A passenger was taken in serious condition to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Greer said. Two other passengers refused medical treatment on the scene.</p>
<p>The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>CHICAGO (CBS)</strong> &#8212; A rash of shootings around Chicago left one man dead and six others injured Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.</p>
<p>A shooting took the life of a 26-year-old man in the 7900 block of South Campbell Avenue in the Southwest Side’s Wrightwood neighborhood, about a block from St. Rita of Cascia High School.</p>
<p>The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. The victim, Kenneth McCurty, of the 8000 block of South Artesian Avenue, was pronounced dead at the Stein Institute at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.<br />
The violent streak began a few hours earlier, when a 25-year-old man was shot around 8:50 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.</p>
<p>The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the 7000 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, police said. He was reported in stable condition at Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center.</p>
<p>Just before 9:40 p.m., a man was shot and wounded in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the city’s West Side.</p>
<p>The 21-year-old victim was standing on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of South Fairfield Avenue with a group of people, when another man walked up and opened fire at 9:37 p.m., police said.</p>
<p>The victim was shot in the lower left leg and a friend took him to nearby Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. His condition was not immediately known.</p>
<p>Around 10:30 p.m., a man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.</p>
<p>He was standing on the sidewalk in the 700 block of North Hamlin Avenue about 10:29 p.m. when shots fired from a dark-colored sedan struck him in the forearm, police said.</p>
<p>An acquaintance took him to Norwegian-American Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.</p>
<p>In another incident around 11 p.m., a man was shot multiple times inside a tattoo parlor in the West Side’s Galewood neighborhood.</p>
<p>A man and woman, ages unknown, walked into the store in the 1600 block of North Mobile Avenue, police said. The man took out a handgun and shot a 42-year-old man who was in the store, striking him in the right side of his body and his right arm, police said. </p>
<p>The man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was reported in stable condition.</p>
<p>Around 12:30 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot multiple times in a drive-by in the Marquette Park neighborhood.</p>
<p>The man was standing on the sidewalk in the 6900 block of South Rockwell Street when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and fired shots, striking him in the leg and arm, police said. </p>
<p>He was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. </p>
<p>In the latest incident, a man was shot and wounded while sitting in a car in the Chatham neighborhood.</p>
<p>The man was shot around 2:30 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said.</p>
<p>The man, 49, was in a car with two other people when someone walked up, showed a handgun and then demanded money, Alfaro said.</p>
<p>The gunman fired shots at some point during the robbery attempt. The victim was hit in the back and forearm. </p>
<p>Paramedics took him in to Advocate Christ, where he was reported in stable condition.</p>

<p><strong>CHICAGO (CBS)</strong> &#8212; Three teachers were taken to the hospital from a West Side elementary school Friday morning, after someone sprayed pepper spray at the school.</p>
<p>The Fire Department called an Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 – which automatically sends five ambulances – and a Level 1 Hazardous Materials response for the incident at Luther Burbank Elementary School, 2035 N. Mobile Ave.</p>
<p>Someone shot a blast pepper spray in the school, and two people were taken to area hospitals, officials said.</p>
<p>About 1,100 students attend the school. Some children were checked out, but none were injured.</p>
<p>The school was not evacuated.</p>
