The inevitable is going to happen. I will get myself an iPhone. On one hand I want one (let’s face facts, it’s a very very good product), on the other hand I don’t want fall into the Steve Jobs reality distortion field.

I was holding out hope for the Samsung Omnia II (Omnia Icon in some markets). It sounded like the Windows Mobile to have (aside from coming preloaded with WinMo 6.1). I recently had an opportunity to play with one in a Telstra T[life] shop and I was very disappointed. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI shell didn’t impress me (in fact it just made me think I was using their low-end F480 which everyone who’s had one seems to hate). And compared to the other smartphones around it, it’s AMOLED screen didn’t look special at all. I played with it for all of 2 minutes, got depressed, and went to see what other toys I could play with in the shop.

For comparison’s sake I also played with a HTC Touch Diamond2 which seemed to be running bog-standard WinMo 6.5 (IE without HTC’s TouchFLO UI). This is the first time I’ve played with a 6.5 powered device (although I have played with it in the emulator) and even though I know that clunky old Windows Mobile lurks just under the surface, I was pleasantly surprised as to how the new welcome and start screens worked (smooth, responsive, easy). There may be some hope for WinMo 7 after all (if MS and their OEM partners can get it right).

For now it looks like I’ll lock into an iPhone for 24 months. By then WinMo 7 will be mature and maybe the Marketplace for Mobile will have (almost) as many apps as Apple’s App Store. Or maybe Android will have taken over as mobile king-of-the-hill.

Introduction

Sony Ericsson are on the move recently and the Aino is very much part of the agenda. But living in the shadow of the Satio and X10 is not much fun we guess. So, the Sony Ericsson Aino is keen to live a double life. At first glance, it’s a touchscreen PMP, but on a second look it’s a regular slider phone with an extra big screen. It’s not the ultimate PlayStation phone but it does have Remote Play, to wirelessly pair with Sony’s PlayStation 3.

As far as feature phones go, the Aino has pretty much everything – excellent connectivity, full-featured navigation, a great camera, plenty of internal storage and a simple-but-snappy touch media menu.

By the way, don’t let anyone tell you touchscreen functionality is limited to the proprietary Sony Ericsson multimedia menu. We were pleasantly surprised with Opera Mini, which seemed to quite agree with the Aino touch system. Touchscreen navigation is all there and it performed very smoothly. This means touch controlled Java games might work as well.

All right, this was just a single little secret revealed. Let’s take a closer look at what else the Aino may be hiding there.

The box contents are a sweat deal too – the matching desk stand and wireless headset would fetch a pretty high price as a separate purchase, but with Aino they are part of the experience. And the 8GB microSD card in the box should be enough for most people.

Uncomfortable questions start to emerge though – the Remote Play feature doesn’t really do much more than DLNA and is useless with anything but PlayStation3. The touch functionality sounds great but not having it in the built-in browser sucks.

But asking these questions is missing the point. If you owned the original PlayStation, then upgraded to PlayStation 2 and have the 3rd version sitting next to your BRAVIA set, well this love letter in the shape of Sony Ericsson Aino is addressed to you.

India will introduce mobile number portability on Dec 31, a move that could further intensify the stiff competition in the world’s fastest-growing wireless market and push call charges lower.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which allows users to retain their number even if they switch operators, will be introduced in two phases, the telecoms regulator said, first in the metro cities and the so-called Category A telecom zones and in other areas by March 20.

MNP helps in “increasing competition between the service providers and acts as a catalyst for the service providers to improve their quality of service,” the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said on its website.

The regulator also notified certain charges associated with MNP and said switching charges for users must not exceed 19 rupees (U.S. 40 cents).

There are several home recording softweres avaiblible for absoulty nothing at all! And in this post i will be giving you my advice on which one i think you should buy!

First up is Acid express! This is amazing… Seriously! It does all you need it to it can take video, record live music through a microphone and you can instert music into it to! There are barelly any problems with this unless you want to create your own music without playing such as in fruity loops but i don’t think this needs it! Another bonus is that you can upload your recordings to the acid express website where people can download your links etc!

Next up is fruity loops! You do have to pay for fruity loops but there are many videos on youtube etc… showing you how to get it for free! It takes a bit of getting used to but once you do its great! You can play around with synths, make your own beats and just general messing around! But the only thing letting this down so far is that i havent been able to record from my mic which is a let down! You can but it will take a bit of fiddling around with the midis!

Overall if i was going to be reccomending you then i would definatly go for acid express but i would also say get fruity loops ! This is because they both do tottally different things amazingly well!

Le festival des 4 écrans a lieu dans le 13 ème arrondissement de Paris , ce mercredi 18, jeudi 19 et vendredi 20 novembre, à la bibliothèque François Mitterand et au cinéma MK2 bibliothèque. Seront présentés au public une cinquante de films du “réel” produit par le cinéma, la télévision, le web et le mobile.

La compétition mobile porte sur la réalisation d’un film de 3 minutes sur le thème “un amour de train” avec un téléphone portable, un appareil photo ou une caméra numérique. I personnally own a Google phone and think its great!Admitadly it’s looks are nothing compared to the iphone and the blackberry bold 9000!

It’s trackball feature is very handy as it does make browsing your files etc a whole lot easyier than other smartphones!

The device itself though is extremly easy to use and i think if we gave it to a monkey even they could ring there mum from  it! It is so easy you can have everything set up and workout how to use everything within an hour! Things become a whole lot easyier again if you have windows vista or xp as the google phone is extremly similar to them!

It also has the great keyboard feature that any decent smartphone needs!
