Mobilkom Austria ruft zur großen Handyrecycling-Aktion auf.

Ab heute, den 16. November, können Kunden mit ihrem gebrauchten Handy Gutes tun. Pro gesammeltem Althandy spendet mobilkom austria 3 Euro an Ärzte ohne Grenzen. Recyclingboxen stehen in allen A1 SHOPs und Telekom Austria Shops bereit.

“Mit unserer österreichweiten Althandy-Sammelaktion sorgen wir zum einen für die Wiederverwertung bzw. das umweltgerechte Recycling, und zum anderen gemeinsam mit unseren Kunden auch für Unterstützung von Menschen in Not”, erläutert Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter (siehe Bild), Generaldirektor mobilkom austria und Telekom Austria, das nachhaltige Engagement gegenüber gratiszeitung.at. Der Marktführer führt seit nunmehr sechs Jahren Sammelaktionen für nicht mehr gebrauchte Handys durch und kümmert sich gemeinsam mit seinen Partnern für die Wiederverwendung von gebrauchsfähigen Geräten und der umweltgerechten Entsorgung von defekten Handys.

Handyrecycling: Wegwerfen mit Sinn

Wer sein altes Mobiltelefon beim Kauf seines neuen Handys in eine Sammelbox wirft, hilft doppelt: Pro Handy gehen drei Euro an Ärzte ohne Grenzen und die Umwelt wird geschont. Österreichweit stehen dafür ab sofort in allen 55 A1 SHOPs und 45 Telekom Austria Shops Sammelboxen bereit. Auch Business Partner und ausgewählte Großkunden von mobilkom austria wie die Erste Bank werden aktiv von mobilkom austria angesprochen und in die Aktion eingebunden.

Neu an Bord des RBM2 ist der Red Bull Hot Spot Viewer, der auf dem Wikitude World Browser basiert. Er zeigt aktuelle Infos zu Red Bull Events und Veranstaltungsfotos in der “Augmented Reality”-Kameraansicht des Gerätes. Infos zu Lokalen, in denen Red Bull erhältlich ist, und zu Shops, wo es Red Bull MOBILE gibt, werden beim RBM2 eingeblendet, wenn der Sucher der Kamera in ihre Richtung zeigt. Dabei überlagert sich das Kamerabild des RBM2 mit computergenerierten Daten.

3,5-Zoll-Touchscreen, integriertes GPS und 3,2 Megapixel-Kamera mit Autofokus machen das Handy in Kombination mit den schnellen Verbindungen via UMTS, HSDPA 7,2, HSUPA 5,76 sowie WLAN zu einem perfekten Alltagsbegleiter. Der Community Client ermöglicht den schnellen und einfachen Upload von Videos und Fotos in die Red Bull MOBILE Community.

On 18th. Feb’09, the GSMA announced that it has successfully brokered a deal with leading handset manufacturers and network operators to standardize mobile chargers by 2012 (for most, but not all cellular phones).

The primary goal of this new agreement is to cut down on the environmental impact created by trashing old chargers.

According to the AP:

The GSMA calculates a reduction in greenhouse gases from manufacturing and transporting replacement chargers of 13.6 to 21.8 million tons a year. Cast-off chargers currently generate more than 51,000 tons of waste a year, it says.

Not only will the proposed Micro-USB chargers help reduce waste, but, according to the agreement they’ll also consume (up to 50 percent) less power and provide much greater convenience (and subsequently, less headaches) for consumers. Imagine being able to leave your charger behind, knowing that most anywhere you travel you can find a compatible charger, be it a friend’s place or a random hotel on the other side of the world.

So far, 17 companies have agreed to the pact including 3 Group, AT&T, KTF, LG, mobilkom austria, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, Telstra, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

So nun konnte ich mich endlich dazu hinreißen bei der Hotline von Bob anzurufen und meinen Tarif zu wechseln. Eine Grpße Überraschung:

On October 24, 2007, the newly honored Peace Nobel Prize Laureate and former presidential candidate Al Gore, paid Vienna a short visit. Invited by Mobilkom Austria, which proudly claimed in advance that the advocate of Environmental Policies against Climate Change, as well as pioneer of the Internet, is the most expensive keynote speaker they ever invited for their mobile.futuretalk 07 with an estimated fee between EUR 100,000 and EUR 300,000.

“I have no plans to stand as a candidate for the US Presidential Elections”, he declared, though Gore did not rule out to return to politics in the nearer future. According to recent polls in the United States, the Democrat contender of 2000 would stand good chances in the primaries in the upcoming month, and grass root activists, particularly on the Internet, hope to encourage him to stand again in 2008. Online polls, such as at Democracy for America, give Gore currently a lead among the Democratic candidates, though national polls show him trailing fourth among the Democratic nominees with about 10%.

More than a 1,000 guests, a press release of the company informs us, “enjoyed the event and exciting discussions at the buffet of Do& Co.” Of course, The Vienna Review, Vienna’s only English-spoken newspaper produced and published here, could not have hoped to be on the honored guest list. Nevertheless, as the only Viennese media outlet that reaches the international community of the city, I did expect to be at least informed about the event. After all, there are about 200,000 people that live and work here, whose native or working language is English.

But things are different in Vienna, still, and therefore I should not have been surprised that the response from Mag. Astrid Wagenhofer, Mobilkom’s Corporate Communications Officer, of October 9, 2007 did not hold much sympathy for a small media outlet, as, undoubtedly, the invited guests take priority. Neat less to say, the promise of being in touch about the event never materialized, and that is why there is no possibility to report on the matters discussed, other than to referring to press releases by Mobilkom and reports of the ’special media guests’, like the ORF, in German translations – after all, the ORF Anchor Man Armin Wolf chaired the discussion.

Interestingly enough, Al Gore’s The Alliance for Climate Protection does not even mention the event in Vienna, but Gore’s visit to French President Nicholas Sarkozy the next day was extensively covered by the international media.
