I just updated my main box to Karmic this past week. This is a 32 bit box that was first installed

I just updated my main box to Karmic this past week. This is a 32 bit box that was first installed with Hardy.

Overall it looks like they improved a bunch of stuff. I noticed a lot of stupid annoyances with Gnome/Nautilus are gone now, and the new Pulseaudio stuff looks good.

I use this box as my main PC as well as MythTV frontend/backend with one other PC on the network as a frontend only. My capture card is the Hauppauge PVR-250. I run a heavily patched version of 0.21-fixes from SVN built to my needs. For Karmic I had to update it to r20877 due to some weirdness with glibc 2.10+, anyway that was the easy part…

After compiling and attempting to run it, I wasn’t getting any audio, and the video was choppy. My first thought was to blame pulseaudio due to the debug messages I was getting and also the fact that if I changed my “profile” in the new gnome-volume-control panel it would make audio come and go, but this fact actually turned out to be a semi red herring.

After a little investigating I discovered to my surprise that grabbing video directly from the PVR-250 via “cat /dev/video0 > output.mpg” was also producing the same screwed up video/audio as Myth live TV. Then I checked the behavior of my frontend only machine, same problem there… Strange, what could be causing this? IVTV it must be. Jaunty had IVTV module v1.4.0, Karmic has v1.4.1 which appears to be non-stable at the present time.

So I wanted to try and compile a 1.4.0 module for Karmic but couldn’t find the source on the IVTV page, so I gave up on that. Anyway long story short, I ended up solving these very strange problems by doing the following:

1) I found out that for some very strange reason, the ivtv module needs to be re-loaded AFTER the mythbackend is started! WTF! and why does this fix the problem? Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Does it have something to do with this weird new Karmic thing where they start all the init programs in strange order to improve the boot speed?

2) Declare EXPERIMENTALLY_ALLOW_PULSE_AUDIO=1 in my .profile.

All is well again. Now to go enjoy Karmic.

As your application gets larger, it could result in a pretty bulky swf that will take a long time to

As your application gets larger, it could result in a pretty bulky swf that will take a long time to download and potentially cause users to get code for things they never use. There are also issues around re-using your code in different applications – if you just copy the source, it’s going to be a pain to maintain when you have bug fixes or enhancements for it.

Fortunately, there are ways to break up your code in Flex to reduce some of these issues.

Modules

Flex modules allow you to create a subset of code that can be loaded/removed at run time. Say you’ve got an application that has features that only certain users have access to. You could provide the core of the app as your swf and then download the “special” functionality after a user of the correct type has logged in and asked to access that area. This saves everyone having to download code they may never be able to access.

First of all you need to define your Module. The
<mx:Module>
tag defines the root of a module and you may have more than one of them in an application. It has a
layout
property that can be set to
absolute
,
horizontal
or
vertical
. More than likely, you’ll convert a current UI container class into a module so you can replace it’s tags with the Module ones.

FlexBuilder has functionality to aid with modules but if you’re using FlashDevelop, you’re going to have to do things a little differently. This post explains how to do that. Basically, you can specify compiler properties in an annotated comment (remember to do this within the
<mx:Script>
block if you’re
Module
is defined in MXML). The only addition I would make is to use the
-source-path
option to define the root of your source code so the compiler can find everything it needs to compile the module if you’ve got multiple folders within your source code.

The
ModuleLoader
class is a type of container that knows how to load and unload modules. As it’s a container, it can be added directly to the UI. It has a
url
attribute which specifies where to find the module swf at run time and can be given
width
and
height
attributes along with an
id
. The
ready
event is fired when the module is loaded and the object data of the module is available through the
child
property. The
unloadModule()
method can be used to remove the module.

A sample
moduleLoader
tag might look like this:

<mx:moduleLoader id="myModule" url="modules/myModule.swf" width="100%" height="100%" ready="handleModuleReady(event)"/>

In which case to set a property within my module I would cast the child to the module class to access the property like so:
MyModule(myModule.child).property=value;

You can also specify an
error
event handler to deal with problems trying to load your module. If you see an error something like this:

Error #1053: Illegal override of FlexModuleFactory in mx.core.FlexModuleFactory

Make sure you’re using the same version of the Flex sdk for your module and your application (particularly if you’re using the FlashDevelop method covered above and you’ve got a project specific compiler specified – remember compiling the module with CTRL-F8 uses the default compiler).

Runtime Shared Libraries (RSL)

If you have common code that gets used between several of your applications, you can separate this out into a library and then either compile that in to each application or use it as an RSL. These can be cached on the client so it does not need to be downloaded every time the application is used.

It’s important to consider the size implications of using libraries – if you create ones that try to fit in too much, the overall size of your application at run time will go up as it will be including code from the shared library that it never uses.

Adobe has developed special RSLs of the framework, data visualization and data services classes so that they can be cached by the Flash player and any swf can use them, thus removing the need to compile in extra code and reduce the size of all apps. Thse special RSLs are digitally signed and have a
.swz
extension to ensure that only Adobe certified code is used. They can be found in your SDK’s
frameworks\rsls
directory. Only Flash Player 9.0.115 and later can use the signed swz versions but there are swf versions available too.

To specify you wish to use RSLs, you use the compiler
-runtime-shared-library-path
option. This is followed by the library file (swc) to compile against, the runtime location of the primary RSL (the swz), a policy file if needed (if this is your own unsigned RSL and you’re using it for a different domain) and the failover RSL (swf) runtime location for older Flash Players.

Here’s an example from my project:

-runtime-shared-library-path=C:\flex3sdk\frameworks\libs\framework.swc,framework_3.4.0.9271.swz,,framework_3.4.0.9271.swf

(I’m putting the framework RSLs in the same place as my application swf).

Creating a Flex Library

FlexBuilder has built in support for creating a Flex library (swc) file but for FlashDevelop you’ll need to use the command line
compc
compiler (there is a plugin for FlashDevelop but I couldn’t get it to work for me).

The best way to do this if you have several items is via a n xml configuration file.

You can then go to the bin directory under your SDK and run the command:

compc -load-config+=config-file.xml
the
+=
means in addition to the default config which makes sure you get access to relevant libraries. Here’s an example configuration file:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

Note the external library path entries for the framework libraries I’m referencing – the append attribute is to make sure these get added to any other libraries required. Make sure you specify these as external libraries rather than just libraries or they’ll get compiled in rather than just referenced.

Note also you can specify classes and asset files for inclusion.

Once this is run, you’ll have a swc file you can include as a library to your apps. To make it an RSL takes a little more work. First of all, you need to extract the swf file from the swc using winzip or something similar, then you need to optimize it to remove debug information etc (you don’t need to do this if you’re building in your swc file as the compiler takes care of stripping that out when you generate a release build). You can find out how to optimize your RSL swf here.

Mike is a bit stressed. Sarah, the accountant, just e-mailed him announcing that the company has invoiced 6% less than usual while orders remained stable. Were these orders properly shipped? Mike is 100% sure that last month he shipped the regular quantity of goods. Well, he is the warehouse manager, he is in charge of shipping what customers order, but how can he know if these shipments have been properly invoiced? “Actually, that’s not my job.”, he thinks. Sarah thinks exactly the same; she ensures that customers are invoiced but doesn’t have a clue which goods have been shipped or how.

Do they perhaps need a report that identifies the shipments not yet invoiced? How lucky they are: Openbravo ERP has a Shipment Awaiting Invoice report module.

Functionality

Shipments Awaiting Invoice report aims to answer the following business question: if we are receiving a regular quantity of orders for regular amounts, why are we collecting less money?

Is there a problem with the shipments?

Or are the goods correctly shipped, but these shipments are not properly invoiced?

Grouped by business partners and shipments, the Shipments Awaiting Invoice report will display in HTML or PDF format:

The shipment line product,

the ordered quantity,

the shipped quantity,

the quantity invoiced

and the pending amount to be invoiced (as the pending quantity to be invoiced multiplied by the product price).

This data can be filtered by:

Shipment date

Business partner

Order document number (the complete or partial sales order document number in our Openbravo ERP system).

Shipment document number (the complete or partial goods shipment document number in our Openbravo ERP system).

Technical design

Packaged in a module, this report is made of a manual filter window and a Jasper Report template.

This simple development was tackled component by component:

Definition of the module,

development of the Application Dictionary components,

development of the filter and report user interfaces,

development of the database query

and development of the controller servlet.

You can find the technical documentation in the project’s Forge and the code versioned and publicly available in the Openbravo source code repositories.

Extension

Sarah and Mike do not really need all the filter fields:

Sarah does not need to know about Shipments Document No. or Delivery Terms filter fields

and Mike does not want to be confused by Form of Payment or Payment Terms.

In order to achieve these functional requirements:

Two new reports will extend the original Shipments Awaiting Invoice report. We will call them, for instance, Shipments Awaiting Invoice for Accountants and Shipments Awaiting Invoice for Warehouse Managers.

Accountant and Warehouse Manager roles will be granted access to the Shipments Awaiting Invoice for Accountants report and to the Shipments Awaiting Invoice for Warehouse Managers report respectively.

The filter window of the Shipments Awaiting Invoice for Accountants report will hide Shipments Document No. and Delivery Terms filter fields.

The filter window of the Shipments Awaiting Invoice for Warehouse Managers report will hide Form of Payment and Payment Terms filter fields.

Summary

Based on some business needs, we went through the functional and technical documentation of a simple report module, pointing to the relevant sections to develop it and presenting its extension possibilities.

Feel free to download and install the Shipments Awaiting Invoice report module. You are welcome to provide feedback in the project’s forum and log issues and feature requests in the issue tracker.

Mike and Sarah are now in a better mood: once the shipments that were not invoiced were identified, they could take action on them and the company is again following its regular income path.

I had planned to write this post today BEFORE I read Scott Kelby’s post this morning about collections in Lightroom. It was interesting to read his post because we pretty much end up at the same place, but we take a different route to get there…

As you know from my previous post, I import the photos from a shoot into their own folder on my hard drive. For this example let’s say I’m working with a folder called “0001_landscapes”. Before I begin sorting I create a collection set by clicking the plus (+) icon in the collections panel. I give the set the same serial number and description as the folder that contains the images I’m using. In this case I would name the set “0001_landscapes”. I click plus (+) again and create a new smart collection within the “0001_landscapes” set I just created. I call the smart collection “landscapes picks”. The rules for this smart collection are “Pick Flag is flagged” and “folder contains 0001″. I create one more smart collection within the set called “landscapes stars” with the rules “rating is 1-star” and “folder contains 0001″. Now I can sort my images and my collections are populated automatically.

I start my sorting by selecting the folder I want to work on in the ‘folders’ panel on the left side of the Library module. I double-click the first image to enlarge it and press shift-tab to hide the side, top and bottom panels so that my image is as large as possible. The keys I use for my first sort are ‘P’ for pick and ‘X’ for reject. Press the ‘caps lock’ to automatically advance to the next image as you pick or reject a shot. I go through the photos adding a pick flag to my favorites and a rejected flag to shots that are out of focus or otherwise beyond repair. I press command-delete (mac) to remove the rejected photos from the folder.

Now I click on my “landscapes picks” collection, which now contains all of my flagged images. This time I want to select the cream of the crop. Photos that I might show to a client or add to my portfolio. For my favorites I use 1 star. You can use 1 to 5 stars, but for me it’s either a star or not. I go through the “picks” and use the ‘1′ key to add a 1-star rating to my favorite shots. Now my smart collections contain my favorite shots and I can access them easily for editing or exporting.

For complex shoots, a wedding for example, you can create collections for ‘formal’, ‘reception’ etc. You can then create smart collections that include picks and stars from a particular collection. Just add the collection’s name as one of the rules for the smart filter.

I use Lightroom’s color labels for HDR and panoramas. I give the images I shoot for HDR processing a red label, and shots for panoramas a purple label. Then I can find these images easily using the library filters, or I can create smart collections that add these photos automatically.

Next week I’ll get into more develop module ideas, and put some of these ’star’ images to good use.

Ring, ring, …
- “Hello?”
- “Hi Matt, it’s Tim.”
- “Hi Tim, how’s the family?”
- “Well, but what about the status of my order 89276523D?”
- “Uhmmm…, wait a second please.”
- “Sure.”
15 minutes later…
- “Tim? Are you still there?”
- “Yes! I am!”
- “OK, so I talked to the warehouse guy and he told me that there has been an inventory shortage. So I talked to the production guy and he told me that he did not receive the raw materials. Then I talked to the purchase guy and …”
- “Don’t tell me stories Matt… My components haven’t been shipped yet, right?”
- “No, Sir…”
- “Grrrr! Bye!”
- “Is this a definitive goodbye?”
Tu, tu, tu, …

Did you find it funny? Tim, the customer, did not… neither did Matt, the sales representative. Poor Matt, how easy would his life be if he could know, right away, the shipping status of any sales order. And how much easier if customers could directly check the status of their orders by themselves, without having to phone him. Fortunately, Openbravo ERP is here and the Orders Awaiting Delivery report module is what Matt needs.

Functionality

Orders Awaiting Delivery report aims to provide a meaningful piece of information to sales representatives and managers:

What is the status of this sales order?

Have all the order lines’ products been shipped yet or not?

If not, do we have enough stock to proceed with the shipment?

And this information can afterwards lead to more questions:

If there was enough stock, why have the order lines’ products not been shipped yet? Is there any problem with our shipping company?

If there was no stock, why are we in inventory shortage? Problems in our production chain or problems with our suppliers?

Grouped by business partners and orders, the Orders Awaiting Delivery report will display in HTML or PDF format:

The order line product,

the ordered quantity,

the pending quantity to be shipped (as the ordered quantity minus the already shipped quantity)

and the quantity available in stock.

Order date

Business partner

Delivery terms

Order document number (the complete or partial sales order document number in our Openbravo ERP system).

Order reference (the complete or partial purchase order document number in the customer’s information system).

You can find the technical documentation in the project’s Forge and the code versioned and publicly available in the Openbravo source code repositories.

Extension

This report may not fill all Matt’s needs, so let’s extend it.

From a functional side, Matt wants:

That customers can directly access Orders Awaiting Delivery report in his Openbravo ERP system, so they do not have to call him for the information.

The customers have only access to their orders, avoiding that they see others’ data.

In order to achieve these functional requirements:

A new report will extend the original Orders Awaiting Delivery report. We will call it, for instance, Orders Awaiting Delivery for Customers.

A new role will be created, having only access to the new Orders Awaiting Delivery for Customers report.

A new user will be created. This user is associated to a business partner.

The filter window for the Orders Awaiting Delivery for Customers report will only display order date, order document number and order reference filter fields.

Business partner filter field will not be displayed but will be defaulted. The default value will be the associated business partner of the logged user.

Summary

Based on some business needs, we went through the functional and technical documentation of a simple report module, pointing to the relevant sections to develop it and presenting its extension possibilities.

Feel free to download and install the Orders Awaiting Delivery report module.
Ring, ring, …
- “Hello?”
- “Hi Matt, it’s Tim.”
- “Oh, Tim, it’s been a long time… Did you receive the components?”
- “Yes, I did. No problem. How’s the family?”
- “Uhmmm… Well, thanks.”
- “I’m just phoning you to tell you that your Orders Awaiting Delivery for Customers report just rocks.”
- “I’m glad to hear that.”
- “Bye! Take care!”

According to the US Department of Education (DOE) 2003 study “Technology is now considered by most educators and parents to be an integral part of providing a high-quality education (Ertmer, P.2005).”

However, if and how technology is integrated into the classroom and curriculum still depends on the individual teacher. The articles main point or question is how a teacher’s belief system regarding technology and whether it is has value and/or is an effective tool in regards to the subject being taught.

I think it comes down to being comfortable and seeing value in what a computer can do in relation to it’s relevance to each individual/teacher. I also think the grade level of the student dictates the level of knowledge required by the teacher, regardless of their beliefs. Who decides what level of technology is necessary, outside of an actual computer/technology class? If the technology is functional for the teacher, it should not matter that the computer or technology being used is only for word processing and research.

For me technology truly has to be functional to my needs before I will bother taking the time and learning how to utilize it. There is also a time factor issue; it takes time to experiment and “play” with technology to get familiar with the capabilities, before I really use them. I do think our beliefs do have something to do with if and how much effort we put into learning

I would like to incorporate more technology in my lessons, beyond word processing. The strange thing is I have students who won’t even do that, they prefer to hand write their final draft papers. I get the impression they don’t know how to type. I do know most, if not all of my students don’t know how to write cursive, I still think it is faster than typing when taking notes. Of course that is my “belief,” and I think there is something to be said about going back to basics (regardless of the technological advances).

This article was interesting because I did not know that a wiki was an actual type technology.

This article was interesting because I did not know that a wiki was an actual type technology. “Their main us is to develop pages around a theme, for instance educational wikis, media and encyclopedic knowledge. (A. Ruth & L. Houghton, 2009)” However, I must admit I am still not sure how a Wiki works.

I do understand the benefits it can provide (collaborative work/learning and independent research), the tools available within the wiki (chat boxes and word processing) and the fact that it is an open forum for anyone.

To sum up the pros and cons of the wiki technology from the study done in the article, comes down to the following pros and cons.

Pros include: There is a community aspect to the learning through collaborative learning, teachers can facilitate the learning, it blends information from both novice and experts alike and allows for different ways of learning.

Cons include: Information can be all over the place and not focused, information can be easily copied, it can be very competitive, the end topic is never finished/never ends and using a wiki was difficult/not very user-friendly.

I think with a teacher facilitating the learning goal or goals…or at least the topic there can be many advantages to using a wiki in the classroom. I think the use of a wiki has some great potential particularly in a classroom that is blended with students of varying abilities and the self-contained classroom where there also can be a large range in student learning abilities and learning goals.

I cannot speak for myself, but in order for a wiki to be a valuable tool for students with learning disabilities and (all students actually) it needs to beuser-friendly. Perhaps even more so for the teacher or instructor, who like myself may be “technologically” challenged on a good day.

I do think to better understand how a wiki works I should go and try it out. To find out more about this I found the following website. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/wiki.htm

I have recently installed the latest stable Debian on a new Toshiba Satellite L300 – 251 laptop.

Until now, everything was running well except the wifi PCI card. This one is detected and the right module ath5k is loaded. Here is what lspci -k gives :

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
Kernel driver in use: ath5k
Kernel modules: ath5k

Unfortunately, I was unable to see which wireless networks were around me. Each time I issued the command iwlist wlan0 scan, I received this error : wlan0 No scan results.

After looking at Debian official wiki, I did find the right solution to my problem : upgrading my current kernel to a more recent one.

In the official Debian repositories for the stable version, the most recent version for a kernel image is 2.6.26-2. Fortunately, we can get a very recent kernel from the Debian backports repositories : 2.6.30-bpo.2

After issuing the following command apt-get install linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.2-686, you will have to reboot with this kernel. Otherwise, your problem will remain. The version of the ath5k module is much more recent than the one loaded by default after my initial Debian setup. Do not forget to possibly modify your Grub file to boot on the new installed kernel or to make it as the default one at boot time.

For more informations on this module :

ath5k module in Debian

Nota Bene : Last but not least, do not forget to switch on your wifi card or you will get my initial error message !

zen-cart_module_make.png

可以参考、对比

/includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes/tpl_search_header.php
/includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes/tpl_search.php

和

/includes/modules/sideboxes/search_header.php
/includes/modules/sideboxes/search.php

来获得灵感。

按以下三个步骤来制作这个module：

1)
在/includes/modules/sideboxes目录下，新建一个名叫currencies_header.php的文件。

如果需要，在这个文件里可以依照/includes/modules/sideboxes/search_header.php提供的方法来直接操作数据库。

在这里，我们根据/includes/modules/sideboxes/currencies.php来创建文件，主要是把currencies.php里用于sidebox显示的句子删掉：

$title = ‘<label>’ . BOX_HEADING_CURRENCIES . ‘</label>’;
$title_link = false;
require($template->get_template_dir($column_box_default, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,’common’) . ‘/’ . $column_box_default);

这样，我们就不会在调用这个module的时候，调用到用于sidebox里显示的相关语句。

同样，在这个文件里，我们可以根据自己的需要，加入一个module生成数据所需要的所有元素。

2)
新建一个名叫tpl_currencies_header.php的文件到/includes/templates/YourTemplate /sideboxes，为这个module创建单独的显示风格。这里根据你需要放置的地方，对其中的CSS/XHTML代码进行修改即可。用于显示的数据，是从第一步的module里传进来的全局变量。

注意：Zen-cart 1.3.8 里，按习惯用$content来存储生成的页面显示代码。

3) 在/includes/templates/YourTemplate/common文件夹里，到指定的页面模板里，加入相关的显示生成语句。

在这个例子中，因为是要在页首显示这个currencies显示框，则要在tpl_header.php里加入这么一段话就可以调用module生成数据了：

<?php
require(DIR_WS_MODULES . ’sideboxes/currencies_header.php’);
echo $content;
?>

用上面的方法，就不单单可以修改现有的module，还能根据自己的需要，创作更多的module出来。

To see where the module positions of a template are located, do the following:

1. Open your browser.

2. Browse to the following address: http:// <url of your website goes here> /index.php?tp=1.

This will reveal the module positions for the temlpates you’re currently using. Enjoy!

Be warned: In this tutorial we’re going to be editing your joomla database. So make backup when we tell you to – and preferably also when we don’t tell you to. Following this guide is, as always, on your personal risk. Some knowledge of how to use phpmyadmin is a necessity to follow this guide.

If, for some reason, you ever feel the need to “copy” a module from one joomla site to the other, this guide will explain you how to get it done. As for most of these guides, these were written because of our personal experiences. In this case, I was adding some modules to our Dutch gaming site Toretto.be while checking something at the site of my company. By accident, I deleted a module, and I had to find out how to retrieve that – rather important – module. If you’re in that same spot, or for some other reason need to copy a module, here’s how it’s done.

The copying part

1. At the “original site”, find the “modules” folder. (note: in our articles, when we tell you to go to this or that folder, we assume that you know that you might have to FTP to that folder.)

2. Find the folder of the module you need to copy, and download it / copy it.

3. Using phpmyadmin, go to your joomla database. Navigate to your jos_modules table and export the data. (note: if, for some reason, you didn’t accept the default database install of joomla, find the whateverthehellyouusedasapreset_modules instead).

4. Paste the export in notepad, and find the line about your module. Copy EVERYTHING until the next line starts. These lines start with (some number, some info, some info…)

The pasting part

5. Upload / copy the folder you just copied / downloaded to the “modules” folder of the target site.

6. Go to phpmyadmin for that site, and go to the Joomla Database.

7. Find the jos_modules table. Create a “back-up” of this site, by going to “actions”. Rename the table there. (Note: this will, of course, make all your module data temporarily unavailable. Don’t say I didn’t warn you)
8. Yet again, make an export of this table; paste in notepad. I’m sure there’s other ways to do it, but I couldn’t add the single line with SQL commands due to some errors.

9. Paste the line you copied in step 4. Pay attention to the ”ID" of the line; you might have to change it to something not already used by a module.

10. Copy everything, and go to phpmyadmin again. Import the data using the SQL method.

Congratulations, you’ve just copied your Joomla module!

The article was spot on when Bogle talks about the large and the ever increasing gap between teachers who utilize today’s technology or elearning and those who do not. The article even points out that even tech-savvy educators have a hard time keeping up with conversations and tool-sharing (like twitter) for lack of time.

Bogle also points out other common barriers for teachers in regards to technology to include: lack of experience, familiarity with applications and their purpose, reservations about the relevance of emerging technology for education and most notable lack access to support and expert consulting.

In order to bridge the divide, suggestions given to help school where the use of technology in the classroom exists. It was suggested that a model including the following: increase awareness of emerging technology, especially in enhanced learning and teaching, model for effective use and best practices that integrate pedagogical factors, establish comprehensive support framework and embed elearning activities.

“Ultimately it is up to the each individual teacher (Bogle, M. 2008). Which it is, but basically that goes for everything.

I did want to make a couple of thoughts I have on Web.20 and elearning. On Friday, we discussed the use of “Twitter” on the class webcast. For those of you who are not familiar with ”Twitter,” it is real time updates that you can send and receive from your friend or network and these go to any device where you have internet service. The thing with Twitter is that you can only send 140-160 character per message (like a text), and you can also send links.

So the idea was that it could be a valuable tool teacher-to-teacher, in real time, share ideas and thoughts. Well, the same problem that is addressed in the Bogle article comes up here. “Who has the time, especially to be twittering, back and forth?” Additionally, how much can one share in 140-160 characters? Not much, I think. I feel services like Twitter (real time) provides no benefit. Again, who has the time, and why bother when you can just send an e-mail.

I want to also mention, I was discussing this “Twitter” with my brother, who is very technology savvy, last Saturday morning. We came to thees same conclusions. The funny thing is I think I got more out of meeting with my brother over coffee discussing this. There is a lot to be said for the face-to-face interaction with people.

Another thought I’d like to share is that recently, it was brought to my attention that Teachers have to be careful, because they can feel isolated. Which could be a real concern for some people, you are in your classroom, all day with limited interaction with peers. So, this might be a ”pro” for using services like “Twitter.” I still say “no.” I think it is very important for people to have contact and share ideas in person. So much is lost when it is done via the internet or an iPhone.

I’ll get off my soap box now. …..thanks for indulging me.
