For those of you that haven’t heard of Dirty Sanchez, here’s a short slice to educate you.

With a Major TV and Film Series through MTV, as well as the stage shows, they perform dangerous, crude, ridiculous and self injuring stunts… similar to Rimmer on a night out in… well anywhere really. Their latest MTV series, Sanchez Get High, took the brand back to its roots as, minus Dan Joyce and Pancho, this focused on the on-going, Pritchard Vs. Dainton battle that started it all.

Looking for the ultimate natural high the boys trekked their way through Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Australia and Japan, among others, enjoying such thrills and highs of naked skydiving, traditional tattoos, eating the heart of a cobra and ingesting old remedies and substances which are used in many traditions to experience different feelings of hallucination and euphoria. The live show proves that these guys live their roles as extreme stuntmen.

Whether its pounding their own flesh with a meat tenderiser, sticking needles through skin or nailing a hand to a piece of wood they are here to shock but, more importantly, they are here to have fun and entertain. Dainton explains what we can expect from the show: ‘When we’ve toured with Sanchez in the past we just took turns to do stunts. ‘With the new, Pritchard Vs. Dainton show it’s more of a battle between us ,with the loser receiving a hefty forfeit. It’s bloody awful but fun, in a weird kind of way.

This is the guy who's started everything...

This article is the first part of a series. Part II is here and part III is here.

The Bloggernacle (and Outer Blogness) both have been in a frenzy about Elder Bruce Hafen’s recent talk to gay Mormons at Evergreen. I have linked to several great bloggers who have written about the subject (see my previous article “Pincer Attack: The Double-Bind for Gay Mormons” for a few links sprinkled throughout. Also, you can see here, here, and here — there are articles being written every day about this talk and I’ve not linked to even a majority of them) and I have written a bit on the subject myself…but I have realized that in general, reaction to the talk has been negative (then again, my sample of blogs is skewed.) For the few defenses I did see, they were underwhelming. I don’t think they grasped the underlying point of faith.

I didn’t think saying, “Well, that’s just his opinion” would be a good defense, even if the member in question disagreed with Hafen. So, even though I disagree with Hafen and believe that the narrative I will tell for him is conditional and inadequate, here is one way I think Hafen’s talk can be approached charitably.

Let’s review Hafen’s audience. Most people know about this talk because it was posted to the LDS Newsroom (NOTE: the LDS newsroom archives under Public Relations…this article never hit the front page if this comment is correct), so should we assume that this talk is designed to be an authoritative statement?

I disagree with people who say, “No, this talk isn’t official. It is just Hafen’s opinion.” Even if Hafen gets overwritten in the future (we spoke with limited understanding…), as of now, Elder Hafen is in the First Quorum of the Seventy. He is a General Authority, and his talk did reach the official church resource for news media. Even though Hafen was speaking for a non-church entity (Evergreen), not only has Evergreen had a close history with church General Authorities, but the fact that the talk did go to the Newsroom is telling.

So, let’s say this is an official talk. This defense takes that perspective. I still must say that the audience of this talk is extremely important: it is toward gay Mormons who are members of Evergreen. These are Mormons who want to commit themselves to the church’s presentation of the gospel and  maintain full standing within the church organization. These individuals therefore are constrained, for better or for worse, to “faithful” answers.

What this means is that if someone doesn’t buy these premises, the argument obviously will fail. If one doesn’t care about committing himself to the church’s presentation of the gospel (striving for orthodoxy and orthopraxy), then the defense will fail. If someone doesn’t care about full standing, this defense will fail.

So what does this talk mean for people who do believe in these criteria?

Firstly, Hafen’s comment that these members suffer for their homosexuality is then true. Because it is not an option to say that they suffer for their Mormonness or suffer for the church’s expectations. Furthermore, it is comforting that a General Authority would understand this suffering and try to assuage it. Hafen’s comment that their persisting attractions do not make their very nature flawed is similarly comforting (more on that later). The core message, however, is that for as long as these attractions persist, the member shouldn’t act on them and should not succumb to arguments that suggest they need to act on them (so actually, the inborn vs. choice argument is inconsequential…regardless of the inception of homosexual attraction, the church position is: don’t act on it. [And it's been this for a while now.])

This defense fails if you are unconvinced of why a homosexual shouldn’t act on his/her attraction (gosh, let’s not forget lesbians)…but for a gay Mormon trying to be faithful to the gospel as the church tells it, enduring to the end for heavenly reward is reason enough.

Many people have jumped on Hafen’s paragraph concerning how he or any other GA can speak on the issue, not having faced it himself. Some people have chastized Hafen for comparing the GAs to the Saviour…but if you look carefully, he never does that. He notes that some may ask how the church leaders can empathize…but never answers this (so one can still accept that church leaders, who have not “descended below our conditions,” do not truly understand or empathize). Rather, he notes that Christ empathizes because he has descended below our conditions, and from here, a faithful, orthodox-seeking member would legitimize the church’s commands as authorized by Christ. (Again, if you don’t, then obviously the argument fails.)

The next paragraph introduces an awkward analogy with someone who has faced child sexual abuse…but note that in this paragraph, Hafen does not claim homosexuals are those who were sexually abused. So even though these statements have been made by other general authorities in the past, they cannot be held against Hafen’s “restatement” and “adjustment” of the church’s position in the present.

In the next entry in this series, I’ll confront that most famous quote that nearly every blogger or article who has written about the Hafen talk has mentioned: “Having same-gender attraction is not in your DNA.”

Pincer Attack!

I remember playing Final Fantasy 6. It was a good game. Pincer attacks (like the one viewed above) were fairly rare, but at best they were an incredibly minor inconvenience. They didn’t actually impact the way the particular battle would turn out. It just looked a little different.

If only pincer attacks in real life were so simple. Rather, what I find is that double binds in real life are painful, awkward, and pervasive. There’s a wikipedia page on double binds here (I didn’t just make it up to talk about a video game!) And while double bind research generally relates to the complexity of communication among schizophrenic patients, I think there are just too many examples when it is practical elsewhere.

I think R.D. Laing caught the phenomenon well in his book of poetry “Knots” (here is a sampler page). Here is just one:

It is our duty to bring up our children to love,
honour and obey us.
If they don’t they must be punished,
otherwise we would not be doing our duty.

If they grow up to love, honour and obey us
either we have brought them up properly
or we have not:
if we have
there must be something the matter with them;
if we have not
there is something the matter with us.

Oh wow, why does that sound so familiar?

I’ve been thinking…on the new comments from Elder Bruce Hafen on same-sex attraction to Evergreen. It has generated quite a bit of commentary, to say the least. And it’s made me think about this incredible double bind that gay Mormons face in particular, I think.

So, imagine that you’re raised in the church, and you take to it. So, you believe. You believe it all. You believe that the church knows what is eternally best, right.

But you have a problem. You don’t fit into the mold (and this actually applies to so many other people). Not only do you not fit the mold, but you can’t change yourself to fit the mold.

Still, there’s pressure. The expectation is that if you were only righteous enough, you could change yourself. Even if not, you can and should control yourself. You shouldn’t engage on your feelings. In fact, you might decide to do pursue as “normal” a life as possible — who’s to say you can’t make a mixed orientation marriage work out despite your indiscretion. At the least, you decide that you won’t engage those feelings. Because you trust that the gospel truly does know this will bring you happiness.

This is just one side of the pincer. Do you know how painful it is just to read blogs that are like this? I could link to so many. The story is almost a trope.

The other side beckons. Why stick with such an obviously oppressive and offensive, harmful church? Why take up for that? Why not be happy and fulfilled with your life? Why not reject such a harmful influence?

The other side of the pincer. I see so many blogs that take this stance. It becomes resentful, but in a way, isn’t resent deserved?

But no. You can’t really be sure that that’s what would fulfill you. Maybe it’s illusory. Maybe there’s some truth in what the church says about the gay feelings. After all, you do see the more promiscuous communities and you see that that has its own dangers. Are they really happy? Even though you know that’s not all there is, you wonder if that is what you’ll always be susceptible to if you lose your grounding with the gospel.

Why is it that God would make you in such a way? So that you had to deny something this central? But then again, maybe the church is right when it says you should not view this as “central” to who you are. But you can’t minimize this issue. It refuses to size down in your mind. And the entire time, the teetering brink is misery.

Is there room for Mormons who recognize that they are just as much Mormon as they are gay? Because it seems like the two sides who are playing tug-of-war will not yield an inch. One side expects a rejection of THE GAY — whether it completes in this life or the next. This side says that you cannot truly be happy unless you seek this rejection (why is it they can say this so surely when life is hell for you who tries to live it?) But the other side expects a rejection of THE MORMON. And to be sure, some people can decide to reject one or the other…but why is it necessary? Why must life be terrible? Why is it so hard to leave the heritage?

People not involved simply do not understand, and the struggle cannot even be put into words, though you futilely try. Sometimes, it feels better just to give up, but there’s a cough in the back of your throat that demands that you try to explain, even though you know that every single time, you will be misunderstood, rebuked, and rebuffed. It is painful to speak out, but it is painful to keep it in. Pain is life; we can never keep it down. But why? Why did it have to be like this?

In the end, you feel a kinship with those who are going through this with you. And even though you feel such a kinship, it’s not like this makes things any better. It’s not like you all can team up and take the world by force. No, rather, you all will be in this awkward double bind together, able to compare battle scars and not feel completely alone. But perhaps the realization that you are powerless, though not alone, is even more alienating.

Let’s be superheros, ‘k? Let’s break these impenetrable binds and live through every experience without turmoil, misery, or rage. Don’t we owe it to ourselves?

Gli uomini-cavi abitano nella pietra dove circolano come caverne vaganti. Nel ghiaccio passeggiano come bolle dalla forma d’uomo. Ma non si avventurano nell’aria, perchè il vento li porterebbe via.
Hanno delle case di pietra con i muri fatti di buchi e delle tende nel ghiaccio la cui tela è fatta di bolle. Di giorno rimangono nella pietra e di notte errano nel ghiaccio, dove danzano al plenilunio. Ma non vedono mai il sole, altrimenti scoppierebbero.
Non mangiano che il vuoto, mangiano la forma dei cadaveri, si inebriano di parole vuote, di tutte le parole vuote che noi pronunciamo.
Alcuni dicono che sempre furono e sempre saranno. Altri dicono che sono dei morti. E altri ancora dicono che ogni uomo vivente ha nella terra il suo uomo-cavo, come la spada ha il suo fodero, come il piede ha la sua impronta, e che, alla morte, essi si ricongiungono.

Nel villaggio di Cento-case vivevano il vecchio prete-stregone Kissé e sua moglie Hulé-hulé. Avevano due figli, fue gemelli che niente permetteva di distinguere, che si chiamavano Mo e Ho. La madre stessa li confondeva. Per riconoscerli, nel giorno dell’imposizione dei nomi, a Mo avevano messo una catenella con una piccola croce, a Ho una catenella con un anellino. Il vecchio Kissé aveva una grande preoccupazione inespressa. Secondo l’usanza, doveva succedergli il figlio maggiore. Ma qual era il figlio maggiore? E aveva poi un figlio maggiore?
All’età dell’adolescenza, Mo e Ho erano degli esperti alpinisti. Li chiamavano i due Passe-partout.
Un giorno il padre disse loro: “A quello che di voi mi porterà la Rosa-amara, a lui trasmetterò il grande sapere”.
La Rosa-amara sta sulla cima dei più alti picchi. La lingua brucia, a colui che ne ha mangiato, appena sta per dire una bugia ad alta o bassa voce. Può ancora dire bugiem ma allora è preavvertito. Alcune persone hanno scorto la Rosa-amara: assomigliano, a quanto raccontano, a una specie di grosso lichene multicolore o a uno sciame di farfalle. Nesssuno ha mai potuto prenderla perchè il più piccolo fremito di paura nelle sue vicinanze la spaventa, ed essa rientra nella roccia. Ma, pur desiderandola, sia ha sempre un po’ di paura nel possederla, e subito sparisce.
Per parlare di un’azione impossibile o di una impresa assurda, si dice: “è come cercare di vedere la notte in pieno giorno”, oppure: “è come voler illuminare il sole per vederlo meglio”, o ancora, “è come tentare di cogliere la Rosa-amara”.

Mo ha preso le sue corde e il suo martello e la sua ascia e dei ganci di ferro. Il sole l’ha sorpreso sui fianchi del picco Fora-nubi. Talvolta come una lucertola e talaltra come una ragno, si arrampica lungo le alte pareti rosse, tra il bianco delle nevi e il azzurro-nero del cielo. Nubi piccole e veloci lo avvolgono di tanto in tanto, poi d’un tratto, lo restituiscono alla luce. Ed ecco che poco al di sopra di sè egli vede la Rosa-amaram che brilla di colori che non sono dei sette colori. Egli si ripete senza sosta l’incantesimo che gli ha insegnato suo padre e che lo protegge dalla paura.

Qui ci vorrrebbe un chiodo con una staffa per inforcare questo cavallo di pietra impennato. Picchia col martello e la sua mano sprofonda in un foro. C’è un incavo sotto la pietra. Spezza la crosta di roccia e vede che quell’incavo ha la forma di un uomo: un tronco, gambe, braccia, e incavi a forma di dita allargate come dal terrore, ed è la testa che egli ha perforato con un colpo di martello.

Un vento gelido passa sulla pietra. Mo ha ucciso un uomo cavo. Ha avuto un fremito e la Rosa-amara è rientrata nella roccia.
Mo ridiscende al villaggio e dice a suo padre: “Ho ucciso un uomo-cavo. Ma ho visto la Rosa-amara e domani andrò a cercarla”.
Il vecchio Kissé diventò cupo. Vedeva in lontananza le disgrazie avvicinarsi in processione. Disse: “Fai attenzione agli uomini-cavi. Vorranno vendicare il loro morto. Nel nostro mondo, non possono entrare. Ma possono arrivare fino alla superficie delle cose. Diffida della superficie delle cose.”
All’alba dell’indomani Hulé-hulé, la madre, lanciò un grido tremendo e si alzò e corse verso la montagna. Ai piedi della grande muraglia rossa giacevano i vestiti di Mo, le corde, il martello, e la sua medaglia con la croce. E il suo corpo non c’era più.
“Ho, figlio mio!” gridò “figlio mio, hanno ucciso tuo fratello”.
Ho si erse, stringendo i denti, la pelle del cranio si raggrinziva… Afferra l’ascia e vuole andare. Suo padre gli dice: “Prima, ascolta. Ecco quello che bisogna fare. Gli uomini-cavi hanno preso tuo fratello. L’hanno mutato in un uomo cavo. Egli vorrà sfuggire da loro. Andrà a cercare la luce ai seracchi del Ghiacciaio limpido. Mettiti al collo la sua medaglia e la tua. Va’ verso di lui e colpisci alla testa. Entra nella forma del suo corpo. E Mo rivivrà tra di noi. Non aver paura di uccidere un morto.”

Nel ghiacciaio azzurro del Ghiacciaio limpido, Ho scrutò cib gli occhi spalancati. E’ un gioco di luce, o sono i suoi occhi che si confondono, o vede bene quello che vede? Vede forme argentee, come tuffatori unti d’olio nell’acqua, con gambe e braccia. Ed ecco suo fratello Mo, la sua forma cava che fugge, e mille uomini.cavi lo inseguono, ma hanno paura della luce. La forma di Mo fugge verso la luce, sale in un grandde seracco azzurro e gira su se stessa come per cercare una porta.
Ho si slancia, anche se gli si gela il sangue e gli si spezza il cuore, – egli dice al suo cuore: “non aver paura di uccidere un morto” – colpisce alla testa perforando il ghiaccio. La forma di Mo si fa immobile, Ho fende il ghiaccio del seracco ed entra nella forma del fratello, come una spasa nel suo fodero, come un piede nella sua impronta. Lavora di gomiti e si scuote e libera le sue gambe dallo stampo di ghiaccio. E sente se stesso pronunciare parole in una lingua che non ha mai parlato. Sente di essere Ho e Mo nello stesso tempo. Tutti i ricordi di Mo sono entrati nella sua memoria, insieme con la via del picco Fora-nubi e con la dimora della Rosa-amara.
Con il cerchio e la croce al collo, torna accanto a Hulé-hulé: “Madre, non farai più fatica a riconoscerci, Mo e Ho sono nello stesso corpo, io sono il tuo unico figli Moho”.
Il vecchio Kissé pianse due lacrime, il suo viso si distese. Ma un dubbio ancora voleva risolvere. Disse a Moho: “Tu sei il mio unico figlio, Mo e Ho non devono essere più distinti”.
Ma Moho disse con sicurezza: “Ora io posso raggiungere la Rosa-amara. Mo sa la via, Ho sa il gesto da fare. Padrone della paura, avrò il fiore del discerinimento”.
Colse il fiore, ebbe il sapere, e il vecchio Kissé poté abbandonare questo mondo.

Venía bien un festival así. A decir verdad para ser el tipo de música que se trata el cartel causó bastante interés (cerca de 80 asistentes confirmados vía last.fm, flyers por las tiendas underground de la ciudad…). Había cierta expectación  de ver a los Electric Wizard, pero el resto de las bandas (Moho, Warchetype y Lords of Bukkake) también se las traía. La peña les tenía ganas.

Una vez vivido el percal, mi opinión es que ha sido un fest de puta madre. Lords of Bukkake aun con el escenario frío triunfaron, son unos cracks, dentro del escenario y también fuera de el. Warchetype me molaron, tuvieron momentos muy grandes. No los conocía de nada pero valieron la pena.

Después de par de birras (a cuatro euros el vaso) y echarle un ojo al stand de merchandising comenzaron los Moho. Era la primera vez que les veía en directo. Ya al principio les ves que tienen un carisma y una humildad que les hace ganar muchos enteros, pero luego además mostraron un repertorio de bastante nivel. Disfrute como un crío.

Finalmente, llegaron los Electric Wizard. Para ser sinceros, me decepcionaron. No tenía ni idea de ellos y me los vendieron como cracks. Tampoco es que lo hicieran mal, pero los vi muy a medio gas. Es probable que también influyera la saturación mia de los conciertos anteriores. Algunas canciones y un batería cabreado con los focos es lo que me ha quedado en el recuerdo.

El detalle: encontrarme con un tipo, entre toda la masa de peña con camisetas heavys, de metal etc…, con una camisa de Vangelis. Me llegó al alma xD. De verdad.

The Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) is calling all budding and professional animators from across the country to participate and submit their animated works to Animahenasyon 2009: 3^rd Pinoy Animation Festival, as it formally opens and accepts entries to this year’s festival. Entry forms may be downloaded from the ACPI web site at <http://www.animationcouncil.org>. The deadline for submission of entries is on September 15. Animahenasyon 2009 will be held from November 25 to 28 at the Gateway Mall Araneta Center.

In an effort to build an audience, awareness and development of original contents, ACPI puts together its flagship project through an annual animation festival called Animahenasyon that showcases original animated works of both aspiring and professional animators in the country through a competition.

The festival is composed of the professional and the student/amateur divisions that will have different running time categories: 1 to 5 minutes; 6 to 20 minutes, 21 to 60 minutes, and the full-animated feature (more than 60 minutes). There are also categories for music video, title sequence, public information, demo reel, and TV series. There will also be animated works in exhibition (full-length, special citation, and past Animahenasyon winners).

Last year’s grand prize winner of Animahenasyon is Love and Marriage, a jab at the folly of racial prejudice in marriage, as seen through the eyes of its Chinese-Filipino filmmaker Kenny Lynn Tai. Love and Marriage is a narrative musical cartoon that relates the story of Chinese-Filipino interracial marriage, and a comic take on this long-standing issue in the Chinese society captured in 7.5 minutes. Tai is graduated from De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde with a degree in Multimedia Arts, and is now a freelance animator.

This year’s Animahenasyon will feature a global animation forum where delegates from the continents of North America, Latin America, Canada, Australia and the Asia-Pacific will come to the country and showcase the latest trends and best practices from their respective countries in the field of animation, game development and the digital creative industry in general.

These foreign representatives will present the current state/condition of their industry and feature sample contents from their country. These delegates will also bring with them a group of people for possible business matching in the Philippines. The global animation forum shall provide a venue for exchange among animators, producers, industry supporters, and possible business opportunities

Animahenasyon 2009 will also include an investors’ forum where business seminars would be held in conjunction with business meetings. The forum will cover content sales and distribution, outsourcing, co-production, financing and even for education partnerships. This assumes a full day, divided into six sessions of 60 minutes each for presentation with an open forum. This component of Animahenasyon shall help set direction for the development of the animation industry.

Also part of Animahenasyon 2009 is the animation master classes/ workshops, and exhibit of works of this year’s lifetime achievement awardee Jose Zabala Santos, nephew of renowned artist Nonoy Marcelo.

Animahenasyon serves as a venue for Filipino animators to present their world-class ideas, and opens doors of opportunities for them to meet with and be inspired by the finest names in the industry. It also aims to create greater awareness of the Philippine animation industry and its contributions to the global entertainment business, while tapping locally produced content for promotion in animation markets here and abroad.

ACPI’s vision is to make Philippines as the prime provider of animation and content creation services to the global marketplace. On the other hand, ACPI’s mission is to be the center of excellence for animation and content creation services through building more efficient and effective collaborative business practices that will elevate the country’s economy and culture.

As an organized body, ACPI aims to promote the Filipino talent both locally and internationally. With the cooperation of its members as well as the Philippine government, it is envisioned that the member studios and schools will be considered competitive both creatively and technologically.

ACPI is a non-stock and non-profit organization whose member companies specialize mainly in, but not limited to, 2D, Flash or 3D animation. It aims to promote the animation industry globally with the intention of creating an identity for the Philippines to be considered amongst the preferred countries that service the animation industry.

An important factor in raising a building is to consider drafting first the plan before laying down the foundation. In this case, possible errors can be anticipated and avoided. In creating an animation, it is also important to consider making a draft of what you will do before start doing anything. It is not good to animate scenes that will just be drastically deleted later. So, before animating, consider your story first, make a thumbnails of scenes, then start animating.

Allá por el año 2005, en uno de esos momentos de ocio laboral promocionados por el sopor de media tarde, buscando “no me preguntes qué”, recuerdo haber llegado a un post llamado “Split“.

Sin demasiada convicción aunque ayudado por una absoluta falta de interés en lo que realmente debería estar haciendo, se centró mi atención en el post. No obstante, conforme avanzaban las líneas y párrafos, llegó a engancharme por completo la deshinibida y amena forma de escribir del autor. Es difícil de explicar como la simple historia de una visita a una ciudad logró absorberme de tal manera que, desde aquel momento, decidí que esa ciudad sería algún día objetivo de mis vacaciones.

Cuatro años han pasado y sigo disfrutando con asiduidad de La Petite Claudine, de la diversidad de temas que trata y de la visceral forma de trasmitir de Marta Peirano, la autora del blog. Desde aquí, desde este pequeño y deshabitado blog, mi tributo a esta fantástica escritora que tantos momentos de amena lectura me ha dado.

Well I just ordered some Mr super Clear semi shiny from Miss blythe. It was a wee bit expensive but I think it is the only way of getting my Groovy groove finally fixed! I’m still waiting on some pastels for sorting out her make up as I can’t get the right colours from the shop here. I’m also going to sort out Nan as I think she could do with new make up – I’m thinking a bluey purple. I’m also going to sort out her crazy hair!

Todays other dolly mission is to put my kenner Robin back in curlers. I may just end up doing some sewing for the manna dress though. Nevermind!

En primer lugar, a mis amigos y mi gente en general, a quien van dirigidas mis reflexiones, pedirles perdón por un abandono no por dejadez sino por inanición de ideas. Estas últimas semanas mi vida ha sido como un libro que a cada línea que se escribía, se borraba la anterior… un pequeño punto muerto innecesario ¿Triste? en absoluto.

Porque como la mitad de lo que soy no es otra cosa que la huella que vosotros dejáis en mi, voy a corresponderos con un nuevo apartado: “Celebrities“. Aquí, al más puro estilo “tunante” y “chanante”, dejaré un reflejo de lo que cada una de las personas que me roden día a día, causan en mi.

(risa aburguesada) To esto que veis a los frikis que si java parriba, que si el puntoné pabajo… chorradas de “usuarios” que se dedican a pintar pantallicas… No hay nada como el subidón de por la mañana de llegar a tu silla, el olor a “chis” quemados y decidir ¿De qué color compro el siguiente ordenador? si cambio a los de desarrollo las pantallas por peceras ¿se enterarán? ¿qué es eso que tanto escucho que se llama promoción? subiré a preguntar a rrhh ¿alguien se ha fijao en mi nuevo corte de pelo? ¿Les quito los collares explosivos a Luri y Pastor, que si se separan 5 metros, les vuela la cabeza?

… Tananana, tanananaaa, tanana-na-naaaa (politono nokia). Perdonad un momento que me llaman.

when i went back to school, that was the part of the math assessment I blew.  fractions: simplifying, and finding common denominators.  5 math classes later, 3 successfully passed, i never have to look at a fraction again, if i choose not to.  but it might be a lesson worth re-examining.

i need to simplify things.  i keep taking on other people’s problems as my own.  they’re not my own, and doing this only puts my own off.  i ain’t down with o.p.p. (but, well, you know me).

thanksgiving was honest to god ugly.  turns out my mom’s been telling “j”, my legal aggressor, that i’m dying of aids (wrong on both counts).  i’ve had it.  totally fucking had it.  4 weeks ago, mom was in the hospital, freaking me out with childhood memor-traumas.  2 weeks ago, she told some poor gay guy she met at wasatch mental that he should call her gay son for a date, gave the fool my number.  that’s a fun conversation.  ‘hey, i know my mom’s convinced that i’m gay, but i’m not, no really, but say, you don’t go to byu do you, cause i’m making this documentary…’

   En todo caso, dada la complejidad de estos temas y la lejanía de estas profundidades y, aunque los consideramos temas muy importantes e interesantes,    para no distraernos de nuestros propósitos principales, no vamos a desarrollar con más detalle estos temas,  relativos al núcleo ni  al manto,  por ahora y, solamente insistiremos en  tratar de llegar al Moho, proponiendo que éste se encuentra dividiendo la parte basáltica, de la corteza, del manto exterior, en estado de fusión, como se nos ha enseñado hasta ahora.

   Hasta aquí, es importante  volver a recordar lo que hasta ahora se nos ha enseñado: que la primera discontinuidad, la  de Conrad, como a 15 Km. de profundidad desde la superficie, solamente constituye la división que separa la parte granítica de la parte basáltica dentro de la corteza y, que allá a lo lejos, aquella  otra discontinuidad, la de Repetti, como a 700 Km. de profundidad, sólo separa al manto interior del manto exterior y, aún más allá, las otras dos discontinuidades, la de Gutenberg, como a 2.900 Km. de profundidad,  sólo separa  al manto interior del núcleo exterior en estado de fusión y, la de Weichert, como a los 5.100 Km. de profundidad, sólo separa a éste del núcleo interior.

Nombres dados también, a estas otras discontinuidades, en honor a los apellidos de los científicos descubridores.

   Recordemos además, que se les ha denominado discontinuidades, básicamente porque son algo así como capas que, aún cuando no se nos han indicado sus dimensiones, de acuerdo con las investigaciones científicas hasta ahora realizadas, reúnen ciertas características que no permiten la continuidad de las ondas sísmicas que producen los T y T y las E V.

 Ondas que, de acuerdo a esas investigaciones científicas, investigaciones sismológicas principalmente, normalmente, deberían de propagarse en forma, naturalmente continua.

   Recordemos además, que en relación con la densidad de los materiales, se nos ha enseñado que la densidad de éstos en el planeta, es en promedio de 5.5, porque en la corteza es en promedio de 3, por lo que en el núcleo debe de ser en promedio de unos 13.

Eso nos confirma en parte lo que hemos propuesto, en párrafos anteriores,  en el sentido de que las capas más internas, deben de tener más espesor, entre otras características, para soportar el peso y las dimensiones de todas las demás capas que están por encima.

   Aunque en otros temas se dice que el orden de los factores no altera el producto, para los propósitos de este ensayo, sí vamos a tratar de mantener una secuencia de ideas, lo más aproximada posible.

   En este sentido, vamos a proponer que los T y T  no solamente se producen por las conocidas  teorías de la tectónica de placas y, de la deriva de los continentes, sino que van a ocurrir además por impactos de abajo hacia arriba, no necesariamente sólo en línea recta, sino también en forma inclinada y por eso, la oscilación lateral que se siente en la mayoría  de ellos.

   Impactos que proponemos, van a ser el resultado de algo así como explosiones iniciales, allá en las profundidades, que si logran encontrar salida por la superficie, constituirán una E V y no serán captadas por los sismógrafos y, que si no logran encontrar esa salida, chocarán con la parte basáltica o con la parte granítica de la corteza, serán captados por los sismógrafos y, constituirán T y T a diversas profundidades así como, con diversidad de intensidades y magnitudes.

   Recordemos que se nos ha enseñado también que magnitud existe sólo una para cada T y T, la correspondiente al epicentro del mismo, en tanto que intensidades si existen muchas para el mismo terremoto, ya que éstas van disminuyendo a medida que las mediciones se hacen cada vez más lejos del epicentro.

   Vamos a proponer además que esas explosiones iniciales, lo serán como producto de las crestas de las corrientes de convección, de burbujas a altísimas temperaturas, que explotan en esas profundidades del interior de la Tierra, o bien por explosiones tipo solares, como resultado de las características de materia en estado de fusión, que proponemos deben de existir en esta discontinuidad del Moho y que buscarán salir a la superficie, en las formas que indicamos en el párrafo anterior, como T y T o como E V, y de las que detallaremos un poco más, más adelante.

Las razones concretas de esas explosiones iniciales, proponemos entonces que las sabremos,  cuando se desista de investigar solamente mediante perforaciones, se haya podido descender hasta esta discontinuidad y, se haya dado inicio a su investigación.

   Hasta aquí, vale la pena insistir en la importancia de nuestra propuesta, de lograr hacer descender, a al menos algún investigador, hasta las profundidades donde se encuentra esta discontinuidad, ya que sólo la perforación por sí misma, consideramos que obviamente no tiene los alcances de la investigación en persona y con equipos científicos adicionales.

 Como veremos, algunas formas para este descenso, trataremos de desarrollarlas con detalle, más adelante, en este mismo estudio.

    Mientras tanto y, con relación a las conocidas teorías de la tectónica de placas y de la deriva continental, creemos que sería importante conocer la equivalencia de las magnitudes, que al respecto expresa la escala de Richter.

 Por ejemplo, si sabemos de un terremoto de 7 grados de magnitud, proponemos que deberíamos de poder conocer el peso y la velocidad de las masas o placas que produjeron ese impacto, en asocio con la profundidad que sí conocemos.

 Esa información, proponemos que  nos proporcionaría otros datos relevantes, como las dimensiones de esas masas o placas que, entre otras cosas, nos permitiría verificarlas contra los datos de las mismas,  que esas teorías ya tienen identificadas, por lo menos en cuanto a su cantidad y ubicación geográfica en la superficie.

   Recordemos por otra parte, que la escala de Mercalli, a diferencia de la de Richter, expresa el grado de destrucción ocurrido en la superficie por causa del terremoto, por lo que para los efectos de este estudio, solamente nos interesa lo indicado para la escala de Richter, en el párrafo anterior.

  Con relación a ambos tipos de desastres naturales, recordemos también, que de todas formas, existe poca información para los ocurridos antes del siglo XX, por lo que resulta más difícil buscar y encontrar alguna relación entre aquellos  y los que han ocurrido desde el año 1900, para los cuales sí se encuentra más información.

   Vamos a proponer también que tanto los movimientos orogénicos, de formación de montañas, como los epirogénicos, de levantamiento y hundimiento de masas continentales, están asociados o bien, tienen mucho que ver, más bien,  con las teorías indicadas, de la tectónica de placas y la deriva continental.

   Recordemos además, que de todas formas, aún prevalecen gran cantidad de dudas entre los mismos científicos,  con relación a estas teorías.

 Por ejemplo, en cuanto a la de tectónica de placas, nos parece que nuestro planeta es demasiado grande, como para  indicarnos que solamente existen como 12 placas en total.

 Tampoco nos parece natural que éstas se muevan en direcciones diferentes, ni que puedan chocar entre ellas,  si se nos ha enseñado que se desplazan a velocidades como de 9 cms. por año.

Y, aunque las profundidades que se nos han indicado de éstas, como de 70 Km. sí concuerdan un poco con la distancia desde la superficie hasta el Moho, que propusimos párrafos atrás,  no nos queda claro qué parte de la placa es la que choca, por qué el choque a diferentes profundidades, ni cómo es posible que choquen otra vez, si en algunos casos, alguna vez ya chocaron y luego de eso, más bien debieran de estar unidas, probablemente, la de mayor dimensiones, arrastrando a la menor.

También se nos ha indicado que algunas placas se están introduciendo por debajo o por encima de otras, y que lo cual se conoce como subducción.

Sin embargo, eso tampoco nos aclara las dudas acerca de cómo o cuál es el impacto que ocasiona los  T y T ni por qué a diversas profundidades.

Y en cuanto, a la teoría de la deriva de los continentes, proponemos que ésta, tiene más relación con el enfoque de las fuerzas magnéticas, en el tanto en que éste supone que polos iguales se rechazan y los opuestos se atraen, provocando entonces el hecho de que algunos continentes se atraigan y por el contrario, otros se estén alejando.

   Más allá de la discontinuidad de Mohorovicich, proponemos también que deben de existir otras características y condiciones, como otras temperaturas, otros niveles de  presión atmosférica, inclusive  otro gradiente geotérmico.

En todo caso, proponemos que es probable que para tratar de explicar posteriormente las profundidades de la Tierra, haya que hacer divisiones más específicas, que inclusive se verán agilizadas si se estudia más a fondo esta primera etapa, hasta esta discontinuidad del Moho, por lo menos.

Localizar la chimenea volcánica es necesario
