Es gibt  in Mönchengladbach Streit um ein jahrzehntealtes Mahnmal für die Gefallenen der Weltkriege. Auf den Gedenktafeln der katholischen Grundschule Waldhausener Höhe sind bewaffnete deutsche Soldaten in Kampfuniform abgebildet. Auch der Spruch: Deutschland muß leben, und wenn wir sterben müssen”  des Arbeiterdichters Heinrich Lersch. Das Ehrenmal soll auf den Unmut von Besuchern der Schule gestoßen sein, die die Darstellung des Krieges nicht kindgerecht fanden, nachdem schon in den 90iger Jahren der Ruf erschollen sein soll:  “Weg damit! So etwas gehört nicht in eine Grundschule!” Aus der Waldhausener Bevölkerung andererseits wurde das Ehrenmal verteidigt, weil dort die Namen der Ahnen verzeichnet sind. Und diese hätten dort ihren Platz verdient. Nachdem schon der Spruch Lerschs mit einem roten Balken verdeckt war, hat die Stadt  nun am 27.11.2009 das Ehrenmal teilweise durch dunkles Tuch verhüllt, nämlich das Mosaik mit den Soldaten und den  Spruch Heinrich Lerschs. Man hofft einen guten Kompromiß zwischen Ehrenmal – Gegnern und – Befürwortern gefunden zu haben. Denn nun brauchen die Kinder sich das Soldatenbild nicht mehr täglich anzuschauen, “aber wenn sich Kinder und Lehrer im Rahmen des Unterrichts mit dem Thema Krieg und seiner Darstellung in Literatur und Bildender Kunst auseinandersetzen wollen, dann geht das immer noch”, so der Vertreter der Stadt Mönchengladbach. Hausverbot gegen den ehemaligen Schulpflegschaftsvorsitzenden jedenfalls wurde schon einmal erteilt, weil er gegen die  Verhüllung ist.

Ein durch Verhüllung amputiertes Ehrenmal ? Seelenschaden durch Anblick eines Mosaiks ? Raub von Erinnerungen ? Richtiger Umgang mit der Geschichte ? Viele Fragen, die sich stellen.

Man kann heute mit guten Gründen noch so sehr für Gewaltlosigkeit eintreten, diese Schändung eines deutschen Ehrenmals sollten wir nicht zulassen. Ich hoffe, es finden sich ortsansässige oder in der Region beheimatete Kräfte, die hier einschreiten und dafür sorgen, daß an der katholischen Grundschule Waldhausener Höhe wieder in würdiger Form der Gefallenen durch Schüler, Eltern, Lehrer und die Einwohnerschaft von Waldhausen gedacht werden kann.

Bon, je dois dire qu’à priori, j’étais pas monstre emballé par ce nouveau Settle The Score, autant le disc précédent “Five knuckles philosophy” m’a mis une beigne, et est à classer dans les grands albums de hardcore européen, autant ce nouveau disque ne m’inspirait pas grand-chose… Ceci peut être dû au clip pour la chanson “Family” que le groupe avait mis on-line voici quelques mois, que j’avais vraiment pas trouvé terrible… autant au niveau du clip que de la musique… ensuite lorsque j’ai vu la pochette, ça ne laissait présager rien de bon, tellement je la trouve pas belle… finalement lorsqu’ils ont joués au festival LFK à Lyon, je n’avais pas autrement été impressionné par leur prestation… J’ai pourtant dû m’enfiler mes à-prioris dans le slip afin de vous chroniquer l’objet, et je dois dire qu’après plusieurs écoutes, il s’avère que cette galette est finalement assez réjouissante. STS nous livre là une suite logique et inspirée de leurs précédentes sorties, toujours dans le plus pur style New York hardcore interprété en mode Mönchengladbach ! Rappelons quand même qu’avec STS, on a affaire à des vieux briscards de la scène hardcore européenne. Depuis leur démo sortie en 1999 chez Mab Mob Records, le quatuor n’aura eu de cesse de sortir des discs, surtout des splits, et ce avec des légendes internationales du hardcore (avec, en vrac: SideKick, Everybody Gets Hurt, Sworn Vengeance, NJ Bloodline), mais également trois LPs ! Le premier en 2003, “Royal Flash” chez Mad Mob, viendra ensuite le fameux “Five Knuckles Philosophy ” en 2005 chez Alveran, puis en 2007, le “100% Real” qui compile toute leur carrière en un double CD ! En 2008, ils nous balancent ce tonitruant “Back to the Streets”, sous un label inconnu au bataillon, répondant au joyeux nom de MindTransplant (www.mindtransplant.com) et est distribué par les non moins joyeux Filled With Hate. La marque de fabrique de STS, au-delà de leur style musicale, c’est vraiment la voix du chanteur, hurlée dans le style Integrity ou Kickback, elle apporte une pêche, une rage et une originalité vraiment bienvenue… car oui de prime à bord, ce qui m’avait soûlé, c’était la simplicité des compositions, d’une linéarité qui me faisait parfois frôler l’endormissement… cependant, comme je l’ai relevé avant, ce nouveau skeud prend vraiment de la profondeur et du relief au fur et à mesure qu’on l’écoute, ce qui est une qualité à marquer d’une pierre blanche ! On notera divers invités, notamment sur la chanson “Count on us” où l’on retrouve Björn Esser de Black Friday’29 ainsi que Chris Weitz de Cheap Thrills afin de nous offrir un hymne à la fraternité. Sinon, Freddie du groupe français Stubborn nous fait une apparition toute en français et toute en finesse sur la chanson “N.F.B.”  En conclusion, je dirais que ce disc ne va pas révolutionner la musique, cependant je trouve que le message de STS est délivré avec rage et sincérité, et à l’heure ou de plus en plus de groupe baissent leur pantalon afin de plaire aux ménagères ainsi qu’aux enfants, STS garde le pantalon solidement attaché, fidèles à ses racines, et sans jamais faire de compromis… si vous êtes sensibles à ces valeurs, ainsi qu’aux charmes du New York hardcore à la sauce teutonne, alors ce skeud pourra vous plaire…
