Mr. Little Jeans aka Monica Birkenes just continues to bust out utter perfection.  Whether it’s her covers or her original jams they just are bursts of refreshing music.  Waterfalls, her Sir Paul cover is brilliant and a great example of what a covering badass she is (I mean her version of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs proved that already but if you needed exhibit b now we have it) while the earlier April debut  Oh Sailor showcases the original jam magic she has.  So yes I say what can’t this beauty do?  Seriously what?!  She’s also featured on the upcoming Iron Man 3 soundtrack with a new song called “Back To The Start!”  And just in case I didn’t make it clear already I’m SO ready to hear her LP that is slated to drop around June.  But back to Waterfalls, stream the magic below:

Norwegian singer Mr Little Jeans (Monica Birkenes) probably doesn’t wear all that much denim or jeggings for that matter. What she does have a lot of is raw talent and sunny pop hooks. When I first heard Runaway from her about a year ago, I was enchanted. Then again when I heard her cover Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. And again with Rescue Song and Angel. In fact, pretty much every track or cover of hers has been a big hit so far. But she’s been far from prolific and honestly quite a tease. But when Oh Sailor came and with a video too, it reaffirmed the fact that great things are really worth the wait. As usual her electronic pop music features a quality of charming whimsy along with her own airy vocals but this time backed up by a children’s choir. (The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Youth Chorale) Their youthful voices and the ringing bells match greatly with her playful vocals, quite heartening really.

P.S. If you’re wondering where she got her name, “Mr LittleJeans” is the name of the indian guy in Rushmore (one of my all=time favorites!) acted by Kumar Pallana, who has also starred in a few other of Wes Anderson’s films. (:

We’ve been waiting with bated breath for the Norwegian artist known as Mr. Little Jeans (real name: Monica Birkenes) to officially release this glorious new single featuring the Silverlake Conservatory of Music Youth chorale.  KCRW had been feeding our growing obsession with this song for weeks – playing “Oh Sailor” on regular rotation without any information about a release date. And all the while, the artist’s own Facebook page remained eerily absent of any news…until this video was finally made available earlier this week. We couldn’t be more thrilled to share this song with you (and to have the ability to play it when and wherever we like). All it takes is one listen, and we guarantee you’ll also be hooked.  Word on the street is that Birkenes, who now resides in Los Angeles, will be releasing her first full-length album in June. Oh Sailor, we can hardly wait!

I discovered this song a few days ago while browsing some Spotify playlists, looking for some relaxing tunes I can listen to while I write at work.

I love this! The beat is slow, but still uptempo enough to keep my head bobbing and my foot tapping. Monica Birkenes has a beautiful, soothing voice that goes perfectly with the music.
