We don’t get earthquakes or hurricanes, but it’s monsoon season in Arizona and a remarkable story emerged from a community north of Phoenix last week when a flash flood hit.

When a lot of rain comes down suddenly here, the water can’t sink into the rocky landscape so it takes the path of least resistance and flows over the land to the lowest areas.

Every year people underestimate the power of flowing water and try to cross washes that flow over our roads with deceptively strong currents. Some are killed.
