Musical Musing No.1:

I am now the proud owner of the Fame Monster ….yay! It’s pretty awesome ….not at all a let down and definitely up to the standard of The Fame (wish I could say the same for Russian Roulette …what was Rhianna THINKING!?) Favourite tracks include Bad Romance, Monster and Speechless.

Musical Musing No.2:

Heard Jenna Toro on the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show today doing  a beautiful acoustic version of her new song Electric City. The original track is decent enough, but I definitely think her talent lies more in the acoustic sets than the dance-type tracks. Check out her MySpace here.

Musical Musing No.3:

In order to erase from my mind the ABOMINATION that was Mariah Carey’s ‘breathy’ version of I Wanna Know What Love Is on last night’s X Factor, I have spent the day humming and Youtube-ing the original Foreigner version.

And on a completely unrelated note:

A woman thanked me for letting her get the free seat that became available on the Luas this evening, even though I totally could have gotten to it first. It was really nice to be thanked.

Lady Gaga did not disappoint this evening with her awesome performance of “Bad Romance” and “Speechless”  at this year’s AMA’s. Both songs can be heard in her album “The Fame Monster,” in stores tomorrow. Are any of you buying her album? We know we are.

Let’s face it: there’s nothing new.  We create only by standing on the shoulders of giants.  What came before is a blueprint for our every effort.  The legacy of Western culture is a valuable gift because without it, there’s hardly anything for us creatives to draw from.  The classics of literature, for instance, can become a set of toys for a talented genius to play with.

Take the epic poem Beowulf—in which ‘there lived a monster in a cave. He was a hideous beast with green fur and yellow teeth. The townspeople feared him and would never approach his cave, he in turn would never venture out to the town for he knew he was not wanted and didn’t like the people much anyhow. There was one particular day of the year that he couldn’t stand, and on this day he vowed to ruin the towsnfolk’s fun, for if he could not have any, why should they.’

It must have occurred to Dr Seuss to bend this ancient story to his own use; to retell it as a picture book.  I was thinking about the similarities between Grendel, the monster from Beowulf, and the Grinch—even down to their names.  What really struck me was the bit about how neither one could stand the sounds of civilization.

“It harrowed him / to hear the din of the loud banquet / every day in the hall, the harp being struck / and the clear song of a skilled poet / telling with mastery of a man’s beginnings, / how the Almighty had made the earth . . .” (Beowulf 34).

And:

If there’s one thing I hate…oh the noise, noise, noise, noise! …They’ll blow their flu-flubas.  They’ll bang their tartinkas.  They’ll blow their who-hubas.  They’ll bang their gardinkas!”

A quick search on Google revealed a couple of essays written about Grendel/Grinch. Here’s one by Courtney Shay. She brings up other similarities I hadn’t thought of:  both monsters are miserable—without joy, and wreak their havoc on society in the darkness of night.

To compare Grendel to the Grinch is to appreciate how a master of the picturebook can distill an assortment of ideas down to one clear and simple storyline.

As we descend into the chaos of the season, spare a thought for the anonymous Anglo-Saxon scribbler whose poetry lives on in How The Grinch Stole Christmas!

Kisame bergabung jadi satu dengan Samehada menjadi monster hiu dengan kemampuan mirip monster berekor! Bertarung di dalam “penjara air” yang sengaja dibuat Kisame ternyata membuat keuntungan buat Kisame yang telah berubah wujud.

Sial bagi Bee, karena di dalam “penjara air”, Kisame terus mengejarnya dengan kecepatan yang lebih dari biasanya. Air adalah habitat hiu, dan hiu itu adalah Kisame. Semakin cepatlah dia! Hachibi di dalam tubuh Bee menyarankan strategi lain untuk menyelamatkan Sabu-chan dan Ponta yang juga berada di dalam “penjara air”.

Leave the old man and the tanuki and run in the opposite direction! He’ll follow you! Right! If the water moves with him as he follows you, that will leave them on dry land.

Sabu-chan dan Ponta akhirnya gak lagi dibawa-bawa Bee, tapi sekarang “dibuang” dengan sekuat tenaga supaya bisa keluar dari “penjara air”. Sementara Bee sendiri pergi ke arah yang lain. Benar saja….Kisame tetap mengejar Bee. Ponta dan Sabu-chan akhirnya bisa keluar dari “penjara air”.

Tapi strategi ini harus dibayar mahal oleh Bee. Bee dan Kisame akhirnya terlibat adu fisik di dalam “penjara air”. Bee terdesak, dan harus melakukan strategi lain untuk menghindar dari Hiu Kisame yang semakin menjadi. Strateginya adalah : Kabur!!

Dengan semprotan tinta ala gurita, Bee mencoba kabur. Tapi rupaya sial lagi-lagi ada di pihak Bee. Selagi menghindar dari Kisame, Bee tetap terkena serangan Kisame yang dapat mencium cakra dari Bee. Bee pun kali ini benar-benar terdesak, terluka, dan di ambang kekalahan….

“Penjara air” hancur….dan sekarang mereka ada di tanah yang kering. Bee terkapar pingsan, dan Kisame di ambang kemenangan menangkap Jinchuriki dari monster berekor delapan!

Untuk menghindari terjadi sesuatu lagi yang gak terduga dari Bee, Kisame mencoba memotong kaki Bee dengan Samehada yang sekarang udah menjadi pedang lagi. Tapi….kejadian aneh kali ini menimpa Kisame. Samehada berpaling! Samehada melukai Kisame, dan memberikan cakra Kisame kepada Bee yang terkapar pingsan. Apa sekarang tuan dari Samehada adalah Bee? Gak tau juga…

Gak kehabisa akal, Kisame menggunakan senjatanya Bee. Dan kali ini Bee benar-benar di ambang kekalahan, dan Kisame bersiap tersenyum kemenangan karena udah mengalahkan monster ekor delapan! Hachibi’s on the verge of death! Is there nothing he can do!?

Selama hidup, sering mana : di ambang kemenangan atau di ambang kekalahan?

Alles Gute, Dungeonslayers! Das handliche Rollenspiel wird 1, und das wird gefeiert. Stilecht zünde ich natürlich keine Kerze an, sondern eine Fackel. Und in diesem Fackellicht können die Geschenke ausgewickelt werden. Passend zum Computer-RPG-Hype des Jahres, Torchlight, habe ich ein paar Kleinigkeiten vorbereitet:

• Ein wichtiges Element bei Torchlight und Diablo sind Manatränke. Auch wenn es bei Dungeonslayers kein Mana gibt, können vielleicht folgende Tränke einen Ersatz anbieten.

• Das „Pet“ bei Torchlight wird in vielen Rezensionen als die Diabloklon-Innovation per se bezeichnet. Folgendes Talent bringt ein ähnliches Tier an die Seite des Charakters,

• Schnelles Zauberwechseln geht bei Action-CRPGs auf Knopfdruck. Mit dem folgenden Talent kriegt das auch der Dungeonslayer-Zauberwirker hin.

• Die Torchlight-Charakterklasse Destroyer kann mit „Slash Attack“ alle Gegner um sich herum angreifen. Sicher auch für den Dungeonslayers-Krieger nützlich.

• Vanquisher können bei Torchlight mit einem „Ricochet“-Schuss mehrere Ziele treffen. Das können Späher nun auch.

Die Monster

Was wäre ein digitales RPG ohne ein eigenes Signaturmonster – und hunderte von anderen Spielen inspirierte Monster. Wirklich originell sind bei Torchlight eigentlich nur die fledermausartigen Varkolyn.

• Der Kampfluchs ist eine domestizierte Großkatze.

• Fledermausleute lauern in dunklen Grotten und verlassenen Minen.

• Flederzauberer sind die Anführer der Fledermausleute. Manche beherrschen auch weitere Zauber und besitzen magische Gegenstände.

and his skate caught on one of those holes.

I was fortunate enough to get a gig shooting the Super X  at Burswood for Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine a few weeks ago, which was unreal.

Just being so close to the action and watching the awesome battle between Chad Reed, Dan Reardon and Jay Marmont was just amazing. These guys put themselves at risk to not only get on the podium, but also entertain the crowd. An unfortunate side effect of this type of sport are the injuries and the potential for serious, if not life changing scenarios.

But part of the entertainment away from the racing is the Monster Girl. This girl has one job to do, hold up the 30 second board, and look good while doing that!! Somehow I don’t think you’ll disagree.

Imagine being at the starting gates, psyching yourself for the holeshot, only to be distracted by, well, what was  I writing about again, oh yes, the Monster Girl…………….

So, I have had a thing for Lady GaGa since before “Just Dance” came out.  She’s ridiculously innovative and I can’t understand people who hate her.  Anyways, I absolutely adore her video for “Bad Romance” off her album The Fame Monster.  It’s essentially her album The Fame with an additional eight or nine songs for a waaaay cheaper price.  I’m talking like 10 bucks or something.  Anyways, here’s the lyrics for “Bad Romance” and the music video.  Enjoy!

Series:

• Prison Break – 4×10: capítulo centrado en el recuerdo que tienen de Bellick los antiguos presos de Fox River (y su colega alcohólica), mientras Mahone consigue las pistas para superar la seguridad de Scylla y Scofield se entera de que si no se opera en un día puede morir… Es curioso, ¿alguien pensaba que la falta de Bellick se iba a notar tanto?

• 24 – 1×05: y en este capítulo, el candidato a presidente le pregunta a su hijo si es un asesino, Jack ayuda a fugarse a un detenido, la hija Bauer sigue secuestrada y la madre Bauer se siente atraida hacia el hombre que está junto a ella… A pesar de lo que pueda parecer, me ha resultado bastante interesante.

• Monster – 1×01: la verdad es que es una adaptación sumamente fiel a la del manga… A Tenma le entran remordimientos por haber atendido a un importante músico en lugar de a un trabajador turco y en la siguiente ocasión que tiene que decidir… le da preferencia a un niño sobre el alcalde…

• The Beast – 1×10: ehmm… ¿seguro que están emitiendo los capítulos en orden? Porque no lo tengo yo demasiado claro… En fin, una partida de cartas de alto nivel que se convierte en algo muy personal para Barker.

• Smallville – 9×08: ¿los Wonder Twins? Pero, pero, pero… ¿qué coñe han bebido los guionistas y los productores de esta serie? No voy a decir que es un mal episodio porque está entretenido y tal, pero…. ¿no se lo pueden tomar un poco más en serio?

• Sanctuary – 1×08: un chico que es un ordenador humano, eso o tiene una memoria fotográfica del quince, la hija que queda demostrado que sobra porque prácticamente no aparece en el capítulo y ni se nota y Harry Potter y la Rowling que andan con ese pique entre sexual y madre-hijo que ellos se gastan… Bahh, se deja ver, pero no es nada del otro jueves.

• Doctor Mateo – 2×11: Mateo tiene que pelear con dos cosas… Su relación con los amigos de Adriana – otra piedra en su camino, este “chico” no aprende – y la confidencialidad médico-paciente que puede provocar que un alpinista muera si no lo rompe para salvarle la vida… Ahh, y Ernesto y Elena vuelven a estar juntos. Buen capítulo.

• Prison Break – 4×11: pues no, no se nota tanto. Y menos cuando están en acción… XD En un capítulo que recuerda poderosamente a Indiana Jones y la última cruzada – y no, no lo digo por el uniforme que se pone la “novia” de Lincoln -, Scofield consigue llegar hasta Scylla…

• 24 – 1×06: bueno, bueno, bueno… joé, qué vista tengo… el padre de la amiga de la hija no era el padre de la amiga de la hija… la hija sigue intentando ligar con uno de sus raptores a pesar de estar rodeada de hombres armados, la madre está paseando en coche con el padre de la amiga de la hija que no era el padre de la amiga de la hija, un friki ha aparecido en la serie, el candidato a presidente va a denunciar a toda su familia por asesinato y Jack Bauer tiene un cacharro en la oreja… Pues sí que pasan cosas, sí.

• Monster – 1×02: por su decisión de dejar al alcalde de lado, Tenma es apartado tanto por sus compañeros como por su novia… Y Tenma se coje una borrachera del 15 para celebrarlo, por suerte el chaval parece estar respondiendo bien a la operación… Pero tanto el director como los lamec, perdón, los superiores de Tenma aparecen muertos… Enorme capítulo.

• Los Soprano – 2×01: todo cambia para que todo siga igual… Tony es el nuevo jefe y sigue teniendo ataques, su mujer manda en casa, la psiquiatra no quiere ni verle, su madre sigue manipulando a todo el que le rodea y aparecen sus hermanas… Un capítulo entretenido.

• El internado – 6×01: vale que en la tele metan 15 minutos de resumen para ganar tiempo con la publicidad y tal, pero… ¿es necesario meterlos también en los capítulos por Internet? En fin… con lo emocionante que había quedado todo y se las han apañado para volver a un estado previo de la serie, con los jóvenes cada uno por su lado y sin fiarse de los demás y los adultos con sus líos propios… ¿Seguro que está Héctor muerto? Porque yo no lo veo tan claro… Es más, Héctor es totalmente imprescindible para acabar la serie, así que…

• Fringe – 2×07: Peter es raptado por un adolescente que puede controlar la mente y el equipo Fringe recibe órdenes de apartarse y dejar que un equipo especial se haga cargo del “rescate”… cosa que no harán, claro. Y como era evidente desde hace un tiempo, Massive Dinamics está realizando experimentos un tanto extraños… Un capítulo entretenido.

• The Vampire Diaries – 1×09: y otro capítulo movidito de esta serie… Se descubre por qué Damon había regresado al pueblo, la bruja es poseída por su tatataratatarabuela (o asín), Stefan decide que tiene que irse y Elena no es capaz de retenerle, la rubia boba comienza una relación con el ex de Elena y muchos vampiros llegan a la ciudad… Una serie sumamente entretenida, lo digo totalmente en serio.

• Prison Break – 4×12: me voy a poner en el lugar de los productores de la serie: “La temporada pasada hicimos mínimos de audiencia por la huelga de guionistas, este año vamos a cubrirnos las espaldas y vamos a preparar un final para la serie por si no funciona bien pero que quede lo suficientemente abierto como para continuarlo si la audiencia responde…” Y claro, la audiencia debió responder y en lugar de terminar en este capítulo, en el que todo quedaba más o menos zanjado – algún hilillo de plast… quiero decir, algún hilillo colgando – decidieron realizar 12 capítulos más… Yo no me quejo que no me está desagradando, pero… XD

• 24 – 1×07: definitivamente, no me gustaría ser nadie de los que rodean a Jack Bauer… Dos familiares capturados, una “amiga” tiroteada, espías en el lugar de trabajo… Nop, no me gustaría nada ser colega de Jack Bauer.

• Monster – 1×03: ha pasado un tiempo y Tenma es nombrado jefe de cirugía… el niño al que operó y su hermana han desaparecido y acude a otro hospital para ayudar en la operación de un hombre al que el Inspector Lunge de la BKA – el encargado de la investigación en el hospital de Tenma – quiere interrogar… Al despertarse de la operación, el hombre le dice a Tenma que el monstruo está llegando… Muy, muy bien la adaptación, pero que muy bien. Tiene un ritmo reposado, se toman su tiempo para contar las cosas… muy bien.

• The Beast – 1×11: otra capítulo rarísimo en el que Barker está más interesado en resolver su vendetta personal que en atrapar a criminales, el novato le espía y bla bla bla… Porque sólo quedan dos, que si no…

• Sanctuary – 1×09: un capítulo que debió salir baratito porque se pasan la mayor parte del tiempo metidos en un submarino investigando la masacre de un grupo de sirenas y la Rowling es controlada por una especie de virus… así que Harry tiene que matarla.

• The Big Bang Theory – 3×08: ¡Sheldon ve desnuda a Penny! Pero por una buena razón… ella se cae en la ducha y el resto del “grupo” está en una acampada en la que les das unas galletas especiales… La verdad es que tiene su coña… XD

• House – 6×07: uhmm… me ha parecido con diferencia el peor de los siete capítulos que han emitido hasta el momento… no sé si será por la combinación de Taub y 13 con el resto o qué, pero… no me ha gustado demasiado. La despedida que tienen Cameron y House… no sé, tendría que pensarlo. Flojillo, bastante flojillo.

• How I Meet Your Mother – 5×08: ¡Barney’s back! Y a lo grande. Muy buen capítulo, toda la trama de “The Playbook” y su traje de buzo… grandioso. Insisto, cuanto menos aparece Robin… mejor es la serie. Lily muy bien en este capítulo, pero tanto Marshall como Ted pasaron bastante desapercibidos.

• Heroes – 4×10: tenemos a Claire y a Tracy haciéndose muy buenas amigas, a Sylar reintroduciéndose en su cuerpo y a Mohinder (que ha vuelto) salvado por Hiro de T-Bag… Espero que sea cierto eso de que están planeando el final de la serie. Sería bueno.

• Prison Break – 4×13: pues… después del final en falso, tenemos que arrancar de nuevo la serie y esta vez es personal… muy personal. ¿Se habrá ido Mahone sin más? Es que suena tan poco a su personaje… No me tiene especial buena pinta este último tramo de la serie. Habrá que esperar.

• 24 – 1×08: y… ¡Uyyyy! ¡Al palo! Por un pelo no palman la mujer y la hija de Jack Bauer… si es que ya lo decía yo, pertenecer a esa familia… como que da mal rollo. En fin, el resto del capítulo es entretenido y tal, pero no sé cómo se las consiguieron apañar para mantener este ritmo durante todo lo que queda de temporada y… ¿seis más? Jeeeeesús.

• Monster – 1×04: Herr Doctor Tenma se entera de que todo lo que ha conseguido en su vida es debido a que un paciente al que salvó de niño ha matado a gente para… “ayudarle”, pero el inspector Lunge no le cree cuando se lo cuenta. Joer, el manga era más que bueno, pero el anime no es nada malo, no, no, no.

• Los Soprano – 2×02: pues… Junior sale de la cárcel y Tony tiene algún problema con ello… pero a fin de cuentas es familia. La señora Soprano sigue intentando manejar a la gente a su antojo y Tony tiene que decidir si la perdona o no…

• Lie To Me – 2×07: dos tramas distintas en este capítulo… Lightman, Foster y la hija del primero investigan la verdadera identidad de un niño raptado cuando era un bebé y Locker y Torres tienen que investigar una avalancha de gente que se produjo en un centro comercial… La segunda trama un poco más floja que la primera, pero en general bastante bien ambas.

• The Forgotten – 1×08: pues… la parejita en ciernes sigue conociéndose y la red se dedica a resolver asesinatos ya que no les llega con descubrir las identidades de los no identificados… Bueno, no podía durar demasiado sólo con las identificaciones, pero… ¿no es pasarse un poco?

• V (2009) – 1×03: ya sé, ya sé. A mucha gente no le gusta esta serie. A mí, sí. Me gustan mucho los cambios que han ido metiendo a la trama ya conocida, no sé si Supergirl será buena o mala, pero está bastante buena y… no sé, me está gustando bastante, sobre todo los pequeños detalles que van avanzando poco a poco… Lo de la quinta columna bien tratado puede molar.

• Castle – 2×09: Alexis le guarda un secreto a su padre y le pide a Beckett consejo sobre el mismo… En otro orden de cosas, Castle se hace amigo de un revientacerraduras y de una prostituta… pero sólo uno de ellos será… ¿bueno? XD

• NCIS – 7×08: cuando un corte de luz que afecta a todo Washington sin electricidad deja al NCIS sin apoyo informático para resolver un asesinato… ¿Quién creéis que está más cómodo y preparado del equipo? Pues claro… XD

• NCIS Los Angeles – 1×08: es muy distinta al otro NCIS, no voy a decir ni mejor ni peor pero sí distinta. Callen se infiltra en un grupo de paramilitares chiflados y cuando la cosa se complica Sam tiene que entrar a salvarle… Muy buen capítulo, sumamente entretenido.

• La amenaza de andrómeda: adaptación en dos capítulos de la novela de Michael Critchon… bueno, se deja ver, pero tampoco aparta nada nuevo que no tuviese la adaptación en película… Resulta curioso ver a Will fuera de su papel habitual y el protagonista, Benjamin Bratt… es que no puedo con él. Para nada.

Películas:

• Superman Returns: después de ver Hulk y Iron Man pensé “eyyy, debería ver Superman Returns a ver si también me parece mejor que la última vez que la ví…”, por desgracia me sigue pareciendo exactamente igual de mala que las otras dos veces que la ví… incluso peor porque hay cosas que cada vez me gustan menos. Qué lástima, tenían una oportunidad buenísima y la desperdiciaron así.

• Señales del futuro: pues… no termina como me esperaba, no. No es demasiado habitual que toda la humanidad palme en la última escena de la película… y que los ángeles que vienen a buscar a los “buenos” se dejen al protagonista en tierra… Nop, no es una película excesivamente habitual. La verdad es que no se me ocurriría recomendársela a un depresivo… Nicolas Cage está. Nop, no voy a decir que está bien porque sería mentir, pero sí puedo decir que estar, lo que se dice estar… está.

• Crepúsculo: vale, lo reconozco, me picó la curiosidad cuando veía el otro día un trozo en Antena 3 y decidí alquilarla para echarle un vistazo – la de cosas que descubre uno cuando limpia los cajones… incluso tarjetas de videoclub con saldo… XD -… La cara de salida de la protagonista cada vez que mira a Cedric es… inquietante, pero que muy inquietante. Esto… ¿es Nina Meyers la chica que sale por ahí? Realmente es increíble lo que puede cambiar alguna gente. Vaaaaaale, es una película bastante ñona, pero entretenida, eso sí que no lo niego. Lo que menos me convence es la protagonista… pelín sosa, ¿no?

• Transformers La venganza de los caídos: y sigo sin saber por qué hicieron tan mal la traducción al español, pero bueno… Otra que me ha gustado más la segunda vez que la he visto que la primera. Hay algún efecto especialmente bueno – por otros cantosos – y, ni con el dvd, sigo sin ser capaz de oírle decirle al Lebouf que quiere a Megan Fox… Entretenidilla y ya.

Inquietante, ¿verdad?
