The full moon provides a rare spectacle. A moon lit night has a peculiar attraction to it, and the Thai’s definitely know how to make the most of the night that only comes around once a month.
On the Koh Phangan’s Haad Rin beach, once a month when the moon rises with all its beauty, crowds gather to view a most enthralling view of the moon. Almost 10,000 people gather on the beach at various venues that host the party like the Backyard Club, Beach House Club, Drop Inn, Cactus Bar, Paradise, Orchid and The Rock to name a few.

The party starts at dusk and the tables are laid out along the beach, lamps are lit and soon enough the moon light takes over and creates the perfect setting for a night out with singing and dancing. There is food and drinks to keep the partiers going through the night. With the perfect warm waters through out the year, the party becomes even more special with many taking a plunge and enjoying the party from the water as well. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the party as there is no entry fee to the beach and you can enjoy the atmosphere till your hearts content. The only thing you pay for is the food and drinks you enjoy during the night.

You can surely plan your next vacation to Thailand and enjoy this special party as well as the dates for the event are already set, once a month from January to December and also on Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

A few things to keep in mind always, when you are planning to go to a crowded place are to make sure you leave any valuables, or travel documents, back at your hotel.Keep your wallet and money in front pockets or in places where you will know if someone tries to relieve you of them. You can always find pick pockets at crowded places, be careful and alert to them. Keep your shoes on as there is always a chance of stepping on some broken glass.

Be weary of accepting any drinks from strangers. Party drugs are not uncommon here and the drug related penalties are far more stringent than many other places and often times the consulates can’t provide much help in such matters.

All in all, stay safe and enjoy a great beach party that you will get a chance to be a part of.

I wrote 50,000 words in twenty-five days. Five days ahead of schedule. I am so proud and so tired.

This is what happened when I posted my most recent update. I was surprised. I didn’t even expect it and then this popped up on my screen.

And this is my winner badge.

I’m so proud of myself. I know all the other NaNoers are going to be mad at me for saying this but I never thought I wouldn’t be able to finish. I actually found it quite easy to do 1667 or more words a day. But that’s probably because I’ve been developing this story idea for three years and this finally gave me the excuse to write it. Still, I’m quite shocked. I never thought I’d actually get to 50,000. Well, here I am. I did it. Now I can get back to blogging.

I’m honestly feeling like a productivity powerhouse right now. Today consisted mainly of Drama

I’m honestly feeling like a productivity powerhouse right now.

Today consisted mainly of Drama rehearsals, both for my graded piece at the start of 2010, but also for a small musical I’m participating in. That made me feel good, because I’ve done a damn lot today. Plus the 5000 words towards my NaNoWriMo novel I’ve done in between acting. Did I not mention that?!

I – to my horror – realised that I need to write 3000 words per DAY in order to complete this, but I figured, if I can do 5000 words in about two hours, then why not dedicate two hours for the rest of the month, each day, and work on the novel. It’ll be done in no time.

Especially because everything is getting a lot more exciting now. Granted everything – and I do mean everything – will change when December comes to edit the novel, but for now I’m happy to say that this is a good first draft. First drafts being one of my many weaknesses.

Today I want to share a short passage I’ve only just written. The main character has been kidnapped by the main antagonist, and is an undisclosed location, trying to deal with the situation and the revelations he has been presented with.

‘I want to save you! I want to free us all! We never had a choice, not once in our lives. They get in early, before we have minds of our own. The Voices infect us, and we can’t resist. You know it’s true. You’ll be running around after them until you die.’

What had started off as rage now seemed to have developed into tears of a madman. The flicker of candle light reflected off the Dark man’s sparkling tears, which wiped away a certain amount of dirt from his unclean face, leaving a thin trail of natural skin.

The emotions of the Dark man seemed to be being washed away by this flood of sudden emotion. He seemed so passionate about his opinion, and as much as Tobias fought a small part of his brain, he agreed with his enemy.

Tobias knew with a very small but very significant part of his brain, that the Dark man was partly right. Tobias had never had a choice, and would never again.

I don’t think I’ll be writing any more tonight. As much as I want to get to 40,000 before I hit the sack, I’m incredibly tired, and have been working hard all day. Surely I’ve earned some sleep.

Today was supposed to be the day I get to 40,000 but I think that if I write an equal amount tomorrow as I did today, I can get ahead before it’s over. I’m on 38,000 now – I think – and so 4000 words should be possible. Tomorrow is a lot less of a cramped day.

I’ll probably post when I hit 45,000, but if not, I’ll see you at 50,000! Wish me luck.

According to legend, Puru Maharshi did meditation at the hill, where the temple of Shiva now stands

According to legend, Puru Maharshi did meditation at the hill, where the temple of Shiva now stands. It was a dense forest in those days; hence its name Puruvanam, which became peruvanam. The rishi brought the image of Shiva, the Lingam, a half cylinder, to be installed on top of the hill. Afterwards, the upper half of the hill, leaving the small area where the Lingam was placed, was razed down to its present size, making a vast plane, with the central high ground standing tall (MADATHILAPPAN) which is protected by massive walls on all sides, with twin temples of Eratteppan and Madathilappan, the latter standing tall, with a number of granite steps leading to the sanctum, from where, you get a sky view of the surrounding landscape. I am never tired of watching it, from childhood days, as my mother’s home was near the southern Gopuram (gate).

There were several venerable, old trees in the compound, including peepal tree and one perillamaram (meaning- tree without name, as it was a stranger there), all looking very old and about to die. New trees have replaced them.

The big koothampalam, where chakyar koothu was a regular ritual in those days, is rare in the other temples.

The koothu is a sort of mono act and Ramayanam is the theme. The Chakyar will make fun of any body among the audience, however high his status!

Once, the chakyar came very near to the man, a VIP who had just entered the hall, stood there for a few seconds, and commented: a real monkey, only the tail is missing!

One is supposed to suffer and grin, never retort.

Every year, for one month or so, there is thevaruseva, when there will be feasting, both times in the day, only for Brahmins. The dining hall is very long, some four feet in height, cut into three segments to allow devotees to pass through. As children we had difficulty in jumping up on to the dining place.

Throughout the year, there is simple food served to brahmins which we avoided as something below our status. Tamil Brahmins made use of this facility. My maternal grandfather’s brother lived at the western gopuram, eating the free food.

The circular sanctum of Eratteppan ( there is one big lingam and one small lingam by its side, hence this name) is very spacious, with a circular covered veranda, allowing the poojary to go from Shiva in the west to Parvathy in the back of the sanctum. In Keralam, Shiva is alone; in rare cases, where she is allowed inside, she is at the back of the temple.

The eastern entrance, where the gopuram was destroyed by the soldiers of Tippu Sultan, leads to the broad sloping arena, where seven elephants can stand side by side, during pooram festival. Farther down is the spacious temple pond. All the villagers take bath in this waterhole, with steps to climb down and a pucca shed on one side, where the poojary takes bath before entering the temple. The pond will not dry up even in summer, in rainy season it will be full.

Mekavil Bhagavathy is near the western gopuram. Oorakath Ammathiruvady, Thiruvullakavu Sasthavu, and several other temples are in the vicinity.

The location of the temple is twelve KM from Trichur, on the road to Triprayar temple of Lord Ram.

usia = tgl_bekerja – tgl_lahir

Fungsi YRDIF

Syntax untuk fungsi YRDIF adalah :

YRDIF(start date,end date, basis)

usia =YRDIF(tgl_lahir,tgl_bekerja,’actual’) ;
Fungsi INTCK

Syntax untuk fungsi INTCK adalah :

INTCK(interval,start date, end date)

usia = INTCK(‘year’,tgl_lahir, tgl_bekerja) ;

FUNGSI INTNX

Syntax untuk fungsi INTNX adalah :

INTNX(interval, start date, increment)

tgl_x = INTNX (‘year’,tgl_lahir,30);

Atau jika kita ingin tahu tanggal berapakah 15 bulan setelah tanggal masing – masing orang bekerja :

tgl_x = INTNX(‘month’,tgl_bekerja,15);

Weather Report for Paris: Shitty and Cold!

Alright, I can’t exactly call 13 degrees ‘cold’ since I used to wear miniskirts to class in High School whenever the temperature crawled above zero. However, it was raining and the wind was at about an appropriate level of ‘F-You’ – this to me equals ’shitty’. But, it did not ruin my day.

First stop: La Ferme Opera. A cafeteria style café (har-har) with tons of healthy food choices ranging from couscous to croissants (yes, I consider them healthy!). I actually got lost trying to find this place despite mapping out my route to an exact inch. Therefore, I did get to experience something I haven’t done in a while here: getting lost. Although, the experience was kind of ruined when my umbrella was taken hostage by the wind and a cyclist pulled over to vomit on the sidewalk in front of me. Yum.

So here is the outside of La Ferme. Lovely isn’t it? I know, I know. You just can’t get over all the French words.

And here is me in the reflection of the window. Notice my ultra heavy duty gear. Which will actually probably make you laugh at the fact that I took this picture with my iPhone rather than the Canon 5D I’ve got hanging uselessly off my shoulder.

My choice of lunch: Some sort of couscous mix with pomegranate seeds and curry chicken. Seriously, very very good. And very very small. The entire place smells like a bakery, so can you blame me for getting a chocolate croissant as well? No – you can’t.

The ‘dining’ area actually reminds me of a ski lodge in Alberta. Albeit, a very run down and unimaginative ski lodge where all the teenagers drink beer rather than actually ski.

Next stop – Le Cap Bourbon. Just down the street from La Ferme, I decided to stop in for a glass of wine and write for a bit. I mostly just ended up staring out the window and occasionally checking myself out in the mirror that was right in front of me.

It started to really pour (drizzle) while I was inside enjoying my wine and listening to tunes from the 70’s. I headed out with the intentions of going to the gym. But once I got outside I nearly fell over since I’m apparently a cheap drunk – so I decided against it.

So, I returned to my apartment and experimented with my very first HDR shots. So far I only have the trial software so all my images come out with tacky watermarks on them, inevitably leading people to think that they aren’t actually my photos.

A simple Day Two, but I got to accomplish two things that I’ve been wanting to do. Go to La Ferme for lunch, and witness a random cyclist puke on the street during daylight hours.

Time for dinner…

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES — Just when the Los Angeles Kings had grown to love Ryan Smyt

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES — Just when the Los Angeles Kings had grown to love Ryan Smyth’s contributions to their top line, they lost the gritty winger for what could be a month.

Smyth is expected to be out of the Kings’ lineup for a few weeks because of an upper-body injury, the club disclosed Wednesday. It’s the first big dose of adversity for Los Angeles, which has the Western Conference’s third best record early in its quest to end a six-season playoff drought.

Smyth has nine goals and 14 assists in his first 22 games with the Kings, who acquired him from Colorado during the off-season. The 15-year NHL veteran has been a major contributor in Los Angeles’ solid start, providing sharp passes and steady leadership in a pairing with league scoring leader Anze Kopitar on the Kings’ top line.

“He’s one of the key guys on our team, for sure, but that doesn’t matter right now,” Kopitar said. “He’s going to be gone for a month, and somebody else is going to have to step up. We’re just going to have to play hard without him and try to win games. We’re all going to miss him, but his injury is not going to be healed tomorrow.”

Smyth also hadn’t given up his trademark grit in front of the net while getting off to one of the quickest offensive starts of his own career. He has never scored more than 70 points in a season, but was on pace for 86 before the injury.

“What he does very well is his composure with the puck,” Kings coach Terry Murray said. “He handles it in pressure situations, makes the game look easy and slows the game down. He can take it to the net, make plays off of plays in the offensive zone, and can make something happen out of nothing very easily.”

The Kings aren’t disclosing the nature of Smyth’s injury, but he didn’t return after the second period of a game Monday at Florida, Los Angeles’ final stop on a five-game trip.

Alexander Frolov took Smyth’s spot on the top line during the Kings’ 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Frolov was the Kings’ leading goal scorer with 32 last season, but he’s been inconsistent this fall, even getting benched for a game by Murray.

“Frolov’s a pretty good hockey player,” Murray said. “(He’s) a little bit different in style, but it’s not like they haven’t played together in the past. They have to figure out that part for themselves. It’s an opportunity for Kopi to really step up his game to the next level, I think, and say, ‘Hey, look, I’m a part of the reason why success is happening for me also.”‘

Frolov went scoreless in 21 minutes of play against Philadelphia, managing just one shot. He hasn’t scored a goal in 10 games, and has just four this season while getting bumped to the checking line.

“On the other side of it with Fro, I think this is a great opportunity for him,” Murray said. “He can play on that line, play important minutes, big minutes, and be looked at as a player that’s more on the offensive side of the game than the checking line.”

Defenceman Rob Scuderi also sat out due to a lower-body injury. The Kings haven’t said how long he’ll be out.

This entry is late. It was due on Sunday, and annoyingly, I have barely had time for NaNoWriMo, let alone the blog that runs through my veins.

I write this entry on a tiring Wednesday night, but you will not be seeing it until tomorrow morning, around eleven o’clock, I think. I’m going to delay the publishing of this entry. You may accuse me of being absurd, and you may be confused as to why I would shame myself for writing it late only to then delay it further.

Don’t question me! I will wait a little while so that the previous post – by the marvel Internet tycoon that is Harry Slater – has a little air of its own.

Anyway, onto the topic of this entry, which, as you have probably guessed, is NaNoWriMo.

As I write this, I have just completed the 30,000 wordcount milestone. Actually, it was only four days since I was at the now distant 20,000 word mark. I’ve done a lot this week, in order to catch up with what little I accomplished during the pain of Week 2. It really was terrible. Little inspiration, little faith, little enthusiasm. But I’m back to normal now. Don’t worry, apparently Week 2 is like that for everybody.

I would now like to share an extract with you. This is from what I have written fairly recently. The main character – Tobias – has just met a young woman – Danielle – who was the victim of a stabbing from the antagonist of the story, referred to only as the Dark.

Tobias slumped back into his chair, exhausted, despite not being the one that was being interrogated. It annoyed him that nobody could give him a simple straight answer to his questions, because although he had accepted that the Voices were not going to divulge any information unless it was absolutely necessary, he had been hoping that there was somebody – somebody human – that could. Apparently not.

Tobias was angry. Angry with the Voices, for not telling him the truth, angry with Danielle, for not telling him the truth, and angry with his parents, for not telling him the truth. Nobody seemed to think of a nine-year-old as a real person. Just another kid that will sooner or later get in the way.

Tobias suddenly remembered his parents. No doubt they’d be looking for him at the moment. It had probably been about half an hour since he had snuck away from them, following the Voices to find potentially the most unhelpful living person on the planet. Of all the Gifted people he could run into, what would be the odds that Tobias would be stuck with the one that knew as little about the whole thing as he did? It didn’t seem very likely, and yet it had happened.

Everything in the story is very very rough at the moment, and I’m already thinking of ways to change it dramatically when all is said and done. They say not to go back and change anything until it is all done, and I’m trying hard not to, so as not to damage my wordcount, but it can’t stop me from planning ahead.

Another update will be with you on Sunday … hopefully. All is going well, and so Week 3 should be easier than Week 2, even though we’re already halfway through it!

PS. Bloody hell – halfway through Week 3! A week and a half left. It’s getting close.

So I apologize most sincerely for not having posted anything really legitimate in a while, but every

So I apologize most sincerely for not having posted anything really legitimate in a while, but every time I think I should, I think to myself…

“I could be writing right now. I should! I must!!!”

So I do so and squeeze out another couple hundred words before wandering off for more coffee (as my tea binge wore off). Then I look and see some math homework I hadn’t done, so I do it and upon finishing I think, “I should go blog and check up on the online world! …wait…I should write some more. I should. I MUST!”

So I do.

This becomes an endless cycle. At least, it had until this evening. Today, I managed to pull myself above and beyond my word count. I’m sitting at precisely 31,000 words. Not 30,999. Not 31,001. 31k exactly. It’s a beautiful number. I’ve just now managed to get past set-up and initial character development and arrive at my mere, stragglesome spit of a plotline. It’s a touch pathetic that I’ve written 31k of nothing but set up, but I have to remind myself that this is just a draft. It’s just a draft. IAN PAY ATTENTION! IT’S JUST A DRAFT!

In other news, I’ve designed three book covers for my novel, and they are posted below. The first is the general paperback version, the second is a hardback, and the third is also a paperback. I’m going to remake the second in purple, and the third I’ll be working with the text a bit. Personally, I like the concept of the third most. It sort of reminds me of Watchmen, though I haven’t actually read or watched it. I probably ought to.

Critique is well appreciated.

In conclusion, I’d like to share this link to Flyleaf’s single from their new album Momento Mori, “Again”. It’s free on Amazon for some unspecified period of time, so get it while you can.

Danny Demoraes’ brother died of pneumonia, a complication of the H1N1 virus. Demorae, a senior at UCF, received his H1N1 vaccine last Thursday.

John Choi

A month after he watched his 27-year-old brother die of complications caused by the H1N1 virus, UCF senior Danny Demoraes entered the second-floor conference room at Health Services to receive the flu vaccine.

David Demoraes was two weeks away from becoming a firefighter in August when he began complaining of a cough, vomiting and body aches. By the end of the month he had been admitted to a hospital suffering from pneumonia, a complication of H1N1.

On Oct. 3, after a month-long battle, a blood clot blocked one of his arteries, causing his blood pressure to drop to zero, Demoraes said.

“I felt his heart take its last couple beats,” Demoraes said. “My brother and I used to do everything together. Now everything has changed.”

Danny Demoraes received his vaccine Thursday — one of the 1,500 doses available to students, faculty and staff delivered to UCF Health Services, 24,000 had been requested.

“It’s worth getting the vaccine because you just don’t know who it’s going to hospitalize…who it’s going to kill,” Demoraes said. “If the school is offering free vaccines why not prevent it beforehand?”

Chad Binette of UCF News & Information said that there have been 35 cases of H1N1 confirmed at UCF. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

in Atlanta, college-aged people are within a more at-risk category.

“For instance, between ages 5 and 24, the CDC estimates 2,196 cases per 100,000, but only 107 per 100,000 in the 65 and older age group,” Binette said. “UCF is one of the first Florida universities to receive vaccines and getting the vaccine is the best way to stay healthy and protect yourself from the H1N1 virus. The vaccine is safe and effective, and students can get it for free.”

Thomas Sutton, a UCF freshman micro & molecular biology major, agrees. Sutton said he gets his vaccine as a “force of habit” every year, but his grandmother nearly dying of the virus raised his awareness about H1N1.

Claudia Witcher, nursing director for UCF Health Services, began each session with a short presentation explaining to attendees the differences between the two vaccines. The shot is made of dead viral particles, whereas the attenuated nasal vaccine is a live virus that replicates only in the nostril, Witcher said.

“For homework, go out and tell your friends how easy it is, because we need all students to be immunized,” said Pharmacy Manager Sheryl Gamble.

Anne Schuchat, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, reported Friday that 129 children have died from H1N1.

According to the CDC, Novel influenza A, H1N1, is a new flu virus of swine origin that first caused illness in Mexico and the United States in March and April 2009. It was determined that the virus was spreading from person to person with the infection causing a wide range of flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. In addition, many people also have reported nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea. On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to H1N1.

As of Nov. 1, the WHO reported the pandemic has infected 199 countries and overseas territories and caused more than 6,000 deaths.

According to a health alert put out by the CDC on Nov. 6, most people who get H1N1 will have a mild illness and recover in fewer than two weeks. Others, however, are more likely to get flu complications that result in hospitalization and, occasionally, death. Complications can include pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infections and ear infections, or worsen chronic health problems such as asthma or congestive heart failure. The CDC urges clinicians to begin antiviral treatment of suspected persons based on direct observation as opposed to relying on rapid influenza tests or laboratory confirmation.

It takes about two weeks for the vaccine to become effective in the system, Witcher said.

She recommends maintaining good hand washing practices, not sharing food or drink with others and employing good coughing and sneezing etiquette in the interim.

“My brother was all about helping people,” Demoraes said. “If anything, he would be happy that at least this message can get out there and help other people. That’s what he would have wanted.”
